Presented dissertation is focused on commercial suburbanization in terms of the Prague agglomeration specific aspects and assessment of some of its impacts on the affected locations. The aim is to identify local economic structures from the perspective of commercial suburbanization and assess their level of socio-economic significance in the suburban zone of Prague and their influence on the design of local medium-term priorities. This objective is further specified in terms of the five partial aims and five hypotheses. Monitored spatial units are analyzed at the level of municipalities, administrative districts of municipalities with extended powers and districts of Prague-East and Prague-West. The work represents the first comprehensive attempt to assess the extent of commercial suburbanization in the suburban area of Prague by using index methods. With the use of indexes, impacts of commercial suburbanization have been evaluated, especially the level of local action of companies and the formation of local markets in those local areas. The analysis shows that there is a greater degree of formation of local labor markets compared to rather negligible degree of formation of local markets of goods and services. Local economic structures continue to shape significantly in the regional centers of lower category rather than in the suburban zone of Prague. Following part of the thesis analyzes the socio-economic situation in the selected suburbanized municipality and reflection of key aspects of suburbanization in its medium-term development priorities and brings also a generalization of the findings. For the performed analysis, data from the author's own surveys and available statistical databases were used.

This thesis focuses on residential suburbanization within Olomouc city and its surroundings. The aim of the thesis is to determine the degree of intensity of suburbanization of individual settlemements based on the available data. Pursuant evaluation, the settlements with higher suburbanization intensity will be selected and subjected to investigation. The purpose of the investigation is to determine the extent of influence by these processes and what the settlement with higher suburbanisation intensity brings to the citizens. Subsequently, the selected sites and their newly build environement will be assessed from urbanistic and architectural point of view. In conclusion, the detailed analysis of the most suburbanized settlement will be performed.

This doctoral thesis seeks to evaluate the accessibility of the centre of the capital city Prague by people commuting from the suburbs on a daily basis using different types of transport and the related energy performance of these differing types of vehicle. The goal of this academic work is to propose a methodology for measuring transport accessibility by utilising energy efficiency as benchmark. On the basis of energy requirements, obtained by measurements taken during journeys both by car and bus, a method of calculating the energy demands of the two modes of transport was derived. This proposed method of measurement was then applied to journeys from selected suburbs and the results were compared. A part of this work was to propose an "energy information label" whose goal is to inform residents about the energy requirements of the various types of transport when used for their daily commute from the suburbs to the city core. It was verified that the performance of the measured units of energy required are significantly affected by another factor. The main benefit of this work is the proposal of a methodology for the acquisition and measurement of the energy performance during the populations daily commute. Another benefit is the proposal to implement an "energy information label" which serves to inform the population about the energy performance when commuting to their place of work in the city core.

Possibilities of monitoring and evaluation of the commercial suburbanization process on the example of Prague suburban zone Abstract With a transition to the market economy, we can observe an entirely new phenomenon in the hinterland of Czech cities, which has significantly contributed to the transformation of the selected settlements. It is the commercial suburbanization process, which is characterized by a decentralization of the economic activities from the metropolitan cores. Selectivity of the commercial suburbanization process has resulted in its differential manifestation and consequences, which are not often beneficial for a suburban area. Despite the great influence of the process on landscape and population, there is a limited amount of literature dedicated to it, which is partly due to lack of appropriate data sources for its monitoring. The work aims to evaluate possibilities of the study of the process and to create a consistent and repeatable study method using available data sources. With this method a pilot study will be performed on the case of selected locality. Through this study, the suitability of the established method will be verified, but the results will be self-supporting and tell us about evolution, scope, form and the consequences of the process in the selected localities....

The urban sprawl cannot be any longer perceived as a solely esthetic and socioeconomic problem. The process of shift of population and activities from city centre to its fringe has significant environmental impacts as well. Typicaly, suburban areas are spatially and therefore energetically demanding, the landscape is being fragmented by their presence and the natural environment of organisms is severely modified or destroyed. Soil sealing and impervious surfaces lead to altered heat and moist regimes, infiltration rate and runoff. Soils at city fringe - usually very productive and valuable - are endangered by total loss of all of their functions, both environmental and agricultural. That is also the case of Prague surroundings, where high quality soils, which are supposed to be protected by the law, are irreversibly degraded by urban sprawl. Logistic regression model in this work has proved that commercial urban sprawl tends to occur in areas with a good logistic position and a level terrain. The awareness of factors, which are favorable for urban sprawl, can be utilized in future to make local planning more effective and prevent sealing of high-quality agricultural soils, which are currently built on. 7 Automatic extraction of buildings and imprevious areas from very high resolution data in suburban area of Prague Abstract Nowdays, when the very high resolution satellite imagery and airbone laser scanning data have became more accessible, the possibility of their use for different types of applications increased also. With a rapid development of urban hinterlands the demand to monitor these areas increases also with the goal to avoid uncoordinated construction. This work therefore focuses on an object oriented based classification in order to design its own methodological approach for the extraction of buildings and imprevious areas in selected areas of commercial suburbanization in the Prague hinterland. The aim is among others to find the classification rules for distinguishing different types of roofs and impervious areas depending on the material, shape characteristic etc. The literature overview summarizes methods of buildings and imprevious areas classification and extraction using very high resolution optical data and elevation data. An important part of the revitalization of aquatic environment is its revival, resto-ration to a state close to nature. In a broader sense these are such interventions, which tend to reinforce landscape values and concurrently water functions of the aquatic environment. At the same time revitalization has a significant importance in terms of increasing the recreational potential of the landscape. This work focuses on the analysis of landscape links - revitalization measures of watercourses - recreation. The aim is to create a clear overview dealing with recreational utilization and possibilities of watercourses revitalization. The result is a methodical process of evaluating and designing targeted revitalization measures, which lead to an increase in recreational potential and utilizing watercourses in urban and linking-up suburban areas.

Diploma work analyzes the development of suburbanization in settlements close to Česke Budějovice in the socialist and post-socialist period. Detailed focus is paid on the situation in the eastern sector of the background, the thesis compares the situation in the whole agglomeration of České Budějovice. It is based on statistical data of the number of residential population between 1950 - 2009, numeric data of permanently occupied houses in the periods, which were identified by field mapping, and also using statistical data on housing construction between 1997 - 2009. The architectural, urban, planning issues associated with suburbanization are also analyzed. Based on questionnaire survey among mayors of suburban municipalities it also monitors the migrant participation into suburban life in communities and relationships between migrants and indigenous peoples.

The diploma thesis deals with the delimitation of suburban hinterland of city of České Budějovice, typing here lying settlements, especially suburbs, as well as the local development of suburbanization. First, the geographical environment characteristics of near hinterland of České Budějovice, which influence suburbanization, are described. Next chapter is devoted to post-socialist suburbanization literature and the definitions of various types of suburban settlements. In the analytical part, the diploma thesis defines the suburban settlements of the hinterland of České Budějovice through town houses presence, through migration from cities and other urban settlements and through commuting to work in the opposite direction. In total, there are 23 suburbs of the suburban landscape defined, 20 suburbs of near rural landscape, 5 suburbs of distant rural landscape and 5 townships of agglomeration, in addition also 26 rural settlements with partial suburbanization. In the diploma thesis there are a lot of tables and descriptions of the characteristics of the observed settlements.

An object of this diploma thesis is a study of daily rhythms of municipalities in the Central Bohemian Region. The aim is to bring new insights into the daily rhythms of the suburban zone of the Prague Metropolitan Area and the Central Bohemian Region. The work has three main objectives. The first objective is to create a typology of the Central Bohemian municipalities according to their daily rhythms. Mobile phone location data is used to create the typology. There was used a method called cluster analysis. The second objective is to evaluate the daily rhythms in selected municipalities (Kněževes, Ořech, Tochovice) in detail with other data (mobile phone location data from Prague Institute of Planning and Development and commuting data from the Census 2011). Using these sources, I want to highlight the obstacles, but also the benefits of using mobile phone location data in studying of daily rhythms. The last objective is to describe in these three municipalities the pacemakers which influent their timing. The results show that in the Central Bohemian region dominate municipalities with a residential type of daily rhythm. Strong development of suburbanization in the bigger towns of the Czech Republic, coupled with the arrival of younger families with kids in suburbia, leads to the need to increase the capacity of primary schools serving these facilities, respectively suburbia. In contrast, the peripheral rural areas are faced with the opposite problem. This thesis is devoted to basic education in the territory MEP České Budějovice. It monitors the deployment, how full a capacity of primary schools fully and not fully organized, distribution of child (pupil) of the population, declared a real school catchment of individual settlements to individual fully and not fully organized elementary schools and public transit options pupils in basic schools. Additionally, also evaluates the skills of individual primary school and their construction and urban characteristics. As a result, the issue is synthesized and implemented optimization proposal territorial organization of basic education in selected area.

Causes and consequences of alterations of municipal plans in Prague suburb Abstract The diploma thesis is concerned with town and country planning after the "Velvet revolution" in 1989. The surroundings of the capital are places where suburbanization takes place at present. Instruments, which can control the process of suburbanization, are very limited. Moreover there is a problem, that capital and its surroundings lay each in different administrative region. The municipal plan is currently key instrument by which can spatial development be influenced. Municipalities are therefore under pressure of private companies calling for extension of a built-up area. This master's thesis is devoted to the character of the interaction and negotiation about residential development between the municipality representatives and development companies, the key players in the suburban development. As the geographical area for the research were chosen selected municipalities in north-east hinterland of Prague. The theoretical part summarizes the institutional approach, residential suburbanization, spatial planning and the residential development. The practical part consists of the research itself. It was done as the qualitative analysis of the semi-structured interviews with the municipality representatives and development companies. The interviews are then evaluated on the basis of the theoretical thematic analysis. The interaction between developers and mayors is quite complicated because it represents the conflict of private and public interests. This leads to further negotiations. The character of the interaction and also the negotiations are more or less formed by various circumstances. In this thesis have been distinguished four types of interactions. These types differs in the conditions and requirements determination by the mayors and its fulfillment by the development companies. The main aim of this study is the residential stability of the population in Prague suburban locality Říčany. The residential stability was studied in six localities of Říčany which varied according to the type of housing. Description of differences among the selected locations of Říčany can improve the development of similar localities in Prague suburban zone. Residential stability of people depends on factors that can affect it and it is necessary to include all these factors in the analysis. The most significant factor is residential satisfaction with the quality of housing. Qualitative research methods: were used primarily for this analysis: questionnaire survey and interviews with residents of selected localities. The results showed that the city Říčany rather belong to unstable residential communities in Prague suburban zone. Residential instability of the inhabitants is significantly influenced by dissatisfaction with their housing, but very important aspects are also age and life-cycle stages of the respondents. Field survey did not confirm any significant differences between the selected locations, but rather among the types of housing.

Comparison of Dyna-CLUE and Land Change Modeler software for predictive modelling in the suburban area of Prague Abstract The objective of this work was to predict the development of the suburban area of Prague, using Dyna- CLUE and Land Change Modeler (LCM) software, and based on the results compare the capabilities of both these software tools. In this work I used time series of land cover data obtained by the department of applied geoinformatics and cartography, local plans of the municipalities, and information about soil protection provided by the Research Institute for Soil and Water Conservation. Based on these data, a predicted land cover map for 2020 was created in both software tools. The results were then compared and showed that the models respect the restriction of development in predetermined areas. In accordance with local plans, new residential development was properly allocated. For commercial development, the requirements were not completely fulfilled. It is evident that both models are able to create a correct map of future land cover based on specified requirements. However, the instability of LCM and the necessity of using other software while working with Dyna- CLUE somewhat complicated the work.
