Abstract:
Sublimation, introduced by freud in psychoanalysis in the beginning of his practice, has often been assimilated by post-freudians to the final aim of analysis. It may certainly be one of its effects, but it should rather be considered as one of its conditions. Sublimation is equivalent to the operation of inconscious speech, correlative of the constitution of psychic drive. Clinically, it may be situated in relation to the subjective positions in the structure of neurosis, psychosis and perversion. Transference love is an alienation in the significant, characteristic of sublimation, but the end of analysis should be thought beyond sublimation and implies separation of the (a) object invented by lacan. It's at the place of this object, rest of the sublimation process, that the analyst should come at the end. The so-called "passe" is the solution proposed by lacan to the endless freudian analysis

Tinker, Frank Albert. "Carbon-sublimation production of fullerenes." Diss., The University of Arizona, 1995. http://hdl.handle.net/10150/187221.

Abstract:
Carbon-sublimation production of fullerenes enjoys wide use in both experimental and industrial application worldwide. Although it has been nearly five years since the inception of the technique, little is known about the roles various parameters play in the production process. This work attempts to shed light, both experimentally and theoretically, on the basic processes at work in this type of fullerene production. Experimental results herein show that a functional relationship exists among the C₆₀, C₇₀, C₇₆, C₇₈, and C₈₄ fullerenes produced in carbon arcs. This result is interpreted to mean that an equilibrium description of the production process may be valid. Theoretical calculations are then offered in support of such a view. The theory goes on to show details of an equilibrium description that reproduce essential features of fullerene mass-spectra. It is shown that equilibrium abundances of n-atom-sized clusters are highly dependent on the stoichiometric equation chosen to describe the system. However, common traits of the investigated equilibrium descriptions lead to useful conclusions.

Abstract:
It is indisputable that sport is a pervasive social phenomenon. However, each performer interpreter it and invested it in its own way. For some people it will be an educational tool, for others a way to be healthy or happy to everyday life. While it is interesting to corne to question the investment of different people who are physically active, we will limit ourselves to the most popular forms, that is to say, the various investments of children during their evolution and until such they become or not high-level athlete. We will not forget the adolescent period, important point in choosing a career of a sportsman. The investment of high-level sport has corne to mark the start of our research. We will try to show that the concept of sublimation applies perfectly. Sublimate his impulses (aggressive) would be the key to performance. This assumption would need to have a broader look. Sport is not just an individual investment. And if we have to question the notion of sublimation, we have to take into consideration all of the Freudian notion, both its instinctuel facet and its civilizational facet. Thus, from a historical, philosophical and sociological research, we will try to show that physical activities have always been a pleasure to Human but also a powerful tool to join the social body. Sport would create a collective affiliation

Postma, Jakkie. "Sublimation/deSublimation separation of ZrF4 and HfF4." Diss., University of Pretoria, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/71024.

Full text
Abstract:
This dissertation details research aimed at the separation of Zr and Hf in the tetrafluoride form. Separation of ZrF4 and HfF4 was achieved using sublimation followed by desublimation. The separation involves the sublimation of the tetrafluorides in an inert atmosphere under controlled parameters. The sublimed mass (700 C to 800 C) diffuses into nitrogen which then flows across a water-cooled desublimer (annulus) with the aim of desubliming the one metal fluoride in preference to the other. This implies that separation was achieved in both the sublimer and the desublimer, due to differences in both the sublimation and desublimation rates. The aim was for the sublimer residue to be Hf-rich and the desublimer content to be Zr-rich. The Zr/Hf content was determined by means of ICP-OES analysis. It must be noted that the work reported in this thesis is based on only a first sublimation step. The reason for this is that the equipment used was on laboratory scale and that the mass collected from the desublimer was not sufficient to allow a second or third step to be carried out. Little information was available in the literature on the sublimation separation of Zr and Hf, especially in the fluoride form, most of it being sublimation under vacuum conditions. On an industrial scale, only vacuum sublimation of ZrF4 has been introduced into the industry, and no information was found for sublimation of ZrF4 in an inert atmosphere on an industrial scale. There was also limited information on the sublimation rate of ZrF4 or HfF4 in an inert atmosphere. In the process described in this dissertation, optimal temperature selection is crucial since low temperatures result in a low sublimation rate, and high temperatures not only increase the level of impurities in the sublimed product, but also increase the cost of construction material and energy consumption. The aim was to determine the experimental conditions, i.e. sublimation time, temperature and position on the desublimer, which will provide optimal separation conditions. These conditions must, however, be compared with the operating cost, as this will be higher at a higher temperature and for longer sublimation runs.

Vasiliauskas, Remigijus. "Sublimation Growth and Performance of Cubic Silicon Carbide." Doctoral thesis, Linköpings universitet, Halvledarmaterial, 2012. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:liu:diva-76371.

Full text
Abstract:
Silicon carbide (SiC) is a wide band gap semiconductor satisfying requirements to replace silicon in devices operating at high power and high frequency at high temperature, and in harsh environments. Hexagonal polytypes of SiC, such as 6H-SiC and 4H-SiC are available on the power device markets. However, the cubic SiC (3C-SiC) polytype is still not industrially used, essentially due to the lack of 3CSiC substrates. This is mainly because of a high density of defects appearing in the  crystals. Thus, it is critical to understand material growth and defect formation, and learn to control their appearance. Ensuring, that growth methods capable of large scale industrial production can be applied. The aim of this work was to develop operation conditions for fabrication of 3C-SiC crystals via understanding fundamentals of the growth process and to explore structural and electrical properties of the grown material, including its suitability for substrate applications. The physical vapor transport or sublimation process has already shown a capability to produce substantial quantities of large area and high quality hexagonal SiC substrates. In the present study a similar growth principle, but in a different geometry, namely sublimation epitaxy, was applied. Using this method very high growth rates (up to 1 mm/h) can be achieved for hexagonal polytypes while maintaining high material quality. Additionally, the growth process does not require expensive or hazardous materials, thus making the method very attractive for industrial use. When growing 3C-SiC directly on 6H-SiC, the substrate roughness does not have significant influence on the yield and quality of 3C-SiC. This is mostly due to the growth of homoepitaxial 6H-SiC which appears before the 3C-SiC. Structural characterization showed that 3C-SiC grown directly on 6HSiC exhibited the highest quality as compared with other substrate preparation, such as annealing or deposition of a 3C-SiC buffer layer. Thus, further investigation was devoted to the growth of 3C-SiC on 6H-SiC substrates. The parameter window for the growth of 3C-SiC is quite narrow. The temperature interval is from ~1675oC, where the material starts to nucleate, to ~1850oC, where an uncontrolled growth process begins. Si-rich conditions (high Si/C ratio) and high supersaturation are needed in the growth chamber for preferable 3C-SiC nucleation. Deviation from these parameters leads to the growth of homoepitaxial 6HSiC in spiral or 2D island mode along with cubic SiC with high defect density. Nucleation is the most important step in the growth process. The growth on 6H-SiC substrates commences from homoepitaxial 6H-SiC growth in spiral mode, which makes the surface perfect for 3CSiC nucleation. At temperature of ~1675oC the supersaturation is high enough and the 3C-SiC nucleation initiates in two-dimensional islands on the 6H-SiC spiral terraces. Control of the homoepitaxial 6H-SiC growth is a key element in the growth of 3C-SiC. SiC is a polar material having surfaces terminated by either silicon or carbon atoms, called Si- and C-face, respectively. The growth is different on both faces due to the different free surface energies. The lower surface free energy on the C-face causes more uniform nucleation of 3C-SiC and thereafter more uniform twinned domain distribution. Additionally, calculations showed that increase of growth temperature from 1675oC to 1775oC does not change the supersaturation ratio on the C-face due to a much higher surface diffusion length. This results in appearance of pits in the 3C-SiC layer with a 6H-SiC spiral. The pits were not observed on Si-face material as the supersaturation ratio was much higher. Pits formed in the early stages of growth were overgrown more effectively during the later stages. Characterization by transmission electron microscopy showed that transformation from 6H-SiC to 3C-SiC is not abrupt and can appear in two different modes. The first one is forming a few micrometers of polytypic transition zone consisting predominantly of 15R-, 6H- and 3C-SiC. The second one appears due to a competition between 3C-SiC and 6H-SiC resulting in a step-like intermixing zone between these polytypes. Four-fold twins were observed, which resulted in depressions at the surface of 3C-SiC. These defects expand proportionally to the layer thickness, thus drastically reducing usable area of thick layers. Electrical measurements revealed carrier mobility ~200 cm2/Vs at room temperature and the dominant charge carrier scattering is by neutral centers and phonons. The neutral centers originate from extended defects, such as 6H-SiC inclusions, stacking faults and twin boundaries. By growing 3C-SiC on atomically flat and vicinal substrates a preferential orientation of twin boundaries (TBs) was achieved. The mobility was higher in the material with twin boundaries parallel to the current flow, and lower when twin boundaries were perpendicular to the current flow. This was less pronounced at higher temperature as relatively fewer carriers have to overcome barriers created by TBs. Finally, the substrate capability of the 3C-SiC (111) was demonstrated by growth of a monolayer graphene, which was compared with graphene grown on hexagonal SiC poytypes. The quality of the graphene in terms of thickness uniformity and pit appearance was the best when grown on 3C-SiC. The lower quality on hexagonal substrates was attributed to a more difficult process control which is due to the more complex crystal structure.

Abstract:
Thin film fractional sublimation (TFFS) is a distillation process which is used to separate mixtures of solids having a difference in sublimation temperatures of less than 100$ sp circ$C. TFFS employs a moving packed bed to move the solid phase downwards through the column, countercurrently to the vapour phase.
The potential of using TFFS to separate fullerenes from a crude extract composed of C$ sb{60}$ and C$ sb{70}$ was investigated. A 22 mm diameter TFFS column with a moving packed bed was constructed to evaluate the efficiency of the process. This column was capable of fractionally sublimating 40 mg samples of fullerenes under total reflux conditions. The heated column could be operated under inert atmosphere at low to atmospheric pressure. The effect of operating variables such as temperature, carrier gas flow rate and packed bed movement speed, was investigated. Starting from a crude extract composed of 80 wt% C$ sb{60}$ and 20 wt% C$ sb{70},$ milligram quantities of 92 wt% C$ sb{60}$ and 89 wt% C$ sb{70}$ were obtained. Also, a column height equivalent to a theoretical stage (HETS) as low as 2.5 cm/stage was achieved under certain conditions.

Abstract:
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF LAURA A. KISE, for the Master of Arts degree in CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY, presented on April 14, 2010, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: PERFORMANCE ART AS SUBLIMATION: THE CASE OF DANCE MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Stephen Dollinger Creativity and sublimation have been linked throughout the theoretical literature on psychological defense, especially in relation to artistic creativity. As a performance art, dance has been included as a creative form in one of the commonly used measures of creative accomplishments. These links suggest the possibility that dance and sublimation may be related. The purpose of this study was to determine whether dancers endorsed sublimation more than did non-dancers. Participants consisted of 126 female participants recruited from two psychology courses and a university dance company. They completed a questionnaire about level of involvement in dance, Hocevar's Creative Behavior Inventory (including a number of dance items), and the Defense Styles Questionnaire with additional sublimation items (modeled after the sublimation item already in the DSQ) embedded within it. Results indicated that sublimation was a significant predictor of dance, as was SES. SES had a curvilinear relationship with dance such that those identified as well-off were most likely to dance. Four of the six individual sublimation items correlated significantly with dance. Particular motivations to dance also correlated significantly with sublimation and dance. Dance correlated with some of the other CBI creativity scales, but not all, suggesting domain specificity.

Luo, Weijun. "Controllable and scalable thermal sublimation thinning of black phosphorus." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/61361.

Abstract:
Two-dimensional lamellar black phosphorus (BP) has emerged as a promising semiconductor for next generation integrated circuits (IC) and photonics, especially in flexible and ultra-thin electronic and photonic devices. With layer numbers of > 20 to 1, the electronic energy band gap of BP covers the range from 0.3 (bulk) to 2 eV (single-layer), which can fill the gap between graphene and transition metal di-chalcogenides (TMDCS). It is necessary to prepare uniform, large scale and crystalline few-layer BP for industry applications. We investigated thinning rates of BP at different temperatures so that the users can control the time of heating and have the ability to monitor the thickness of BP during heating processes. Identification of crystallographic orientation (CO) of BP by Raman Spectroscopy is applied, which enables the Raman intensity ratios between BP and substrates to be only thickness-dependent. This ratio can be used as a non-contact optical method to determine the actual thickness of BP during preparation, which is crucial to determine the end point of the thinning process. In this thesis work, we first reported the layer-by-layer sublimation of BP below 600 K, which was observed by optical color changes; secondly, we investigated the thinning rates of BP at 500 K and 550 K to be 0.2 nm / min 500 K and 1.5 nm / min at 550 K; thirdly, we investigated the effective determination of CO of BP and underlying Si by polarized Raman Spectroscopy with excitation wavelength of 441.6 nm; fourthly, we investigated the thickness-dependent Raman peak intensity ratio Si / A2g at a fixed CO, which can be used as an indicator of the thickness of BP; lastly, we presented the successful and repeatable preparation of large crystalline 2 to 4 -layer BP. This work is the first study available to use the sublimation thinning as a controllable method to prepare large, uniform and crystalline BP down to 2-4 atomic layers. This work is the first study available on developing an all-Raman method in identifying the CO of BP, determining the in-situ and ex-situ thickness and confirming the crystallinity and uniformity of prepared BP.

Rennes 1, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009REN1S064.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this work is the study of the sublimation of enantiomerically enriched compounds. Different chiral organic compounds (amino acids, carboxylic acids and amide) were sublimed under reduced pressure (0. 1 mbar) and at low temperature. Mixtures are made from the appropriate weight of enantiomers (mixtures of D+L) or from the racemic and the enantiomer (mixtures of DL+L (or D)). For each compound, enrichments but also depletions in the enantiomeric excesses of partial sublimates were observed. The determination of this ee for three amino acid (alanine, leucine, proline) for various ee of the starting material led to curves showing similar data for all the ee of the sublimates of the same amino acid. To better understand the behaviour of compounds during sublimation, several experiments were conducted: with a 13C labeled amino acid and analysis by NMR spectroscopy, by the use of two sublimation apparatus, etc. The analysis of the results showed differences with the literature and current knowledge that led us to propose a new interpretation of the phenomenon, based on the intrinsic characteristics of compounds: the saturated vapour pressure of each component (DL, L ou D)

From the Proceedings of the 1991 Meetings of the Arizona Section - American Water Resources Association and the Hydrology Section - Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science - April 20, 1991, Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff, Arizona
Climatic data for twenty-one winters was used to construct an index in order to assess the significance of evapo-sublimation at Flagstaff, Arizona. Large intra- and inter-annual variability was noted in the record using both uncorrected monthly index values and values corrected for the relative importance of snow. 1967-68 un- corrected sublimation opportunity index (SOI) values and similar values for both 1982-1983 and 1984-1986 appear to indicate that those winters either had unusually high snowpack evapo-sublimation losses, or were years of low "basin efficiencies". Evapo-sublimation opportunity might be tracked as a climate element for high elevational snowzones which contribute significantly to a regional water supply.

This thesis proposes an investigation about the concepts of sublimation and idealization in psychoanalysis, in order to verify the hypothesis that both participate in the constitution of culture. Thus we suggest that, in the Freud s text, culture is conceived as a response to the inexorable condition of helplessness and that its constitution depends upon the renunciation of instinctual satisfaction. Although sublimation is the instinctual vicissitude that is traditionally associated with the construction of culture, we propose that idealization also participates in this process. Both sublimation and idealization comply with the instinctual renunciation required by culture, but while sublimation renounces to the initial aims of the drive through desexualization, idealization only inhibits the original aim of the instinct. Finally, we suggest that the dynamics of contemporary society allow for the hipotesis of, on one hand, a decrease in sublimatory activity and, in the other hand, an increase of idealization.

Makenji, Kylash. "Digital decoration of polymers : innovations in the dye sublimation process." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2011. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/51918/.

Full text
Abstract:
There are numerous techniques that can be used for the decoration of polymeric substrates, dye sublimation, self-colouring, paint spraying, granular injection paint technology, pad printing, in-mould decoration and hot foil stamping. Dye sublimation was selected for this research as it was found to be both the most relevant technology area for IDT Systems Limited and the least understood. It is a customisable digital process which uses specialist Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK) inkjet-able dyes that are transferred into a substrate via a carrier. During the process heat is applied which transforms the dyes from a solid into a gas phase. Analysis of literature identified a number of knowledge gaps, which are addressed during this research and detailed in this report. Initial experimentation concluded that the sublimation dyes can penetrate a range of commercially available amorphous polymers, comparably to semi-crystalline types. These findings dispute previously published work, but these also lacked rigorously recorded methodologies to confirm comparable data. All of the materials, equipment and methodologies used throughout this research were therefore developed in this report. Further detailed experimentation was completed, using amorphous polycarbonate, (PC) and semi-crystalline polybutylene terephthalate, (PBT) focusing on the process time and temperature to understand their influence on the level of dye penetration. The results revealed that increasing the process temperature and time improves the level of dye penetration and that comparable penetration levels were noted at 140-180 oC. Further research identified the importance of free volume in the polymer, this increases in size and connectivity as temperature increases above the glass transition points. Additional experimentation confirms that the free volume enables the dyes to penetrate into the polymer. Characterisation of the CMYK sublimation dyes was completed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry enabling the thermal transitions to be identified. Visual experimentation confirmed that the dyes start and finish sublimation between 145-210 oC. As no software tool existed to visualise the dye penetration, one was developed using MatLab. The tool imports and then interpolates the data and graphically outputs it for the user. This allows a quicker set up time of the process and reduces the number of samples to be destroyed. As a direct result of the innovations described in this report, the industrial sponsor has benefited with an increase in commercial exploitation. Aspects of this research have been published, presented and a patent has been published, details are provided within.

Abstract:
Ancient sublimation theories are constructed on philosophical premisses, such as separation of matter and mind or mind and body; in this dual view, sublimation was meant to be a purely cultural transformation of a "wild" prime nature. Attachment studies with animals and children contest this view by showing that positive affective relations are the key factor to intelligent, sexual and social development. Psychoanalytic libido theory seems inspired by romantic vitalism; both remind us that social adaptation can be an alienating process. However, quantitative suppression of sexuality cannot explain civilization nor personal moral growth. Sexuality is structured by biological and social factors. Paradigmatic change shows evolution as a continuous process, integrating different levels; biological self organization indicates "cognitive" aspects that preceded human consciousness. Preverbial learning and social adaptation, observed in animal groups, remain the base of further cognitive acquisitions. Morality is a result of socialization and reflective personal autonomy. Both, world and personal identity, are cognitive constructions

Abstract:
The aim of this research is to study the impact of death instinct on sublimation, particularly its influence on the act of artistic creation ; the fields of exploration are literature, music, plastic arts ; the method of investigation is psychoanalytical. The first part is focalized on the concept of death instinct in psychoanalytical theory, referring to sublimation (symbolized by osiris) and creation (symbolized by orpheus) ; then the "passion" suffered by the subject (the creator) during his proper act is examined : death or absence of the ego, metamorphosis, transfiguration of the creator ; one chapter in devoted to psychosis and the root of sublimation. The vanishing, the desire of nothing, can be considered as the end (termination or aim) of the creation and of the creator. Finally occurs the study of the passion inflicted by the creator to the object (the original object, the modification or the metamorphosis of products the created object - the work of art) and of its consequences : the various kinds of relief (aufhebung) after the "murder" or the normal corrosion of the object - resurrection, fictitious incarnation, transfiguration and vanishing in the nothing or in the abstraction. The example were chosen as well in ancient times (the bible, plato, the myth of helen) as in nowadays (pierre jean jouve, abstract painters)

Abstract:
Freeze-drying is the process of removal of water or organic solvent from a desired product by means of sublimation at a low temperature and low pressure. It is commonly employed for drying samples which are heat labile and require sensitive treatment, and is mainly used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. It is an expensive process, requiring vacuum, refrigeration and long cycle times, but does yield quality benefits due to the low temperatures involved and the porous nature of the product. Reducing drying times is important to manufacturers, and this depends on optimising rates of heat and mass transfer in the system without the sample losing its porous structure. However, freeze drying is difficult to study experimentally due to the low temperatures and pressures involved. The quality of the final product mainly depends on the sublimation rate and an optimum lyophilisation requires identification of the parameters which influence the process. The main aim of this study is to employ freeze drying microscopy (FDM) as a useful tool to identify these process parameters and help optimise primary drying phase of the freeze drying process for two systems: lactose (relevant to pharmaceuticals) and coffee (the most widely freeze-dried food product). This equipment allows the movement of sublimation fronts to be directly visualised in-situ under carefully controlled (and isothermal conditions), but has scarcely been used in the literature for this purpose. An image analysis method is developed to automatically track the movement of sublimation fronts, and the frontal data fitted to a simple mass transfer model employing surface and bulk resistances. Initial experiments with lactose solution show poor reproducibility in nucleation temperatures during the freezing step and thus primary drying rates. To improve reproducibility, a small amount of silver iodide (AgI) was added to samples which acts as a nucleating agent and increases the nucleation temperature. This addition of AgI also increases the mean ice crystal size in the samples and are easily visible under the freeze-drying microscope, and in many cases show a distinct orientation with respect to direction of sublimation front. Furthermore, the orientation greatly influences sublimation rates, being approximately factor of two faster when crystals are oriented in the direction of mass transfer. FDM experiments with coffee were less straightforward as nucleation temperatures could not be reliably controlled, even with AgI added. Nevertheless there was a clear decrease of bulk resistance with increasing nucleation temperature. An experimental programme was then undertaken to examine the impact of initial solid content, cooling rate, the addition of an annealing step, freeze drying temperature and aeration (for coffee samples). Frontal data were fitted to a simple mass transfer model comprising surface and bulk (per unit depth) resistances and good fits to data were obtained. FDM experiments with lactose and coffee clearly showed the presence of a surface resistance which could also be seen as a surface layer which was devoid of ice crystals (and hence not porous when sublimed). The edge resistance first increased and then decreased with solids content. The resistance per unit depth increased exponentially with solids content, so much so that there is an optimal solids content (around 10% solids) in relation of the rate of production of dried material. Cooling rates were mainly found to affect the surface resistance rather than bulk resistance and this may be due to different levels of surface drying when the samples are being cooled for different lengths of time. Annealing substantially changed the ice crystal sizes, and had a beneficial effect on freeze drying rates and had a similar effect to adding AgI. Freeze drying rates also increased with increasing temperature approximately in line with the saturated vapour pressure (SVP) of ice which is widely held to constitute the driving force for mass transfer. It was possible to make drying time calculations for conventional vial (lactose) and tray (coffee) drying using the frontal rate data obtained from FDM. For 10% lactose and 10% coffee (annealed) there was good agreement between the vial and tray data and predictions based on a microstructure oriented parallel to the direction of mass transfer. This was the only case where agreement was found, but also the only case where directionality was observed in FDM. The much faster drying times observed in the vial and tray experiments are thus attributed to directional solidification occurring in these systems, and this was borne out by SEM imaging. Aeration of the coffee samples was also found to substantially reduce drying times. The influence of microstructure on freeze drying rates is thus very clear.

Abstract:
The objective of my study is to demonstrate that sublimation is the principal aesthetic mechanism in the work of Valery Larbaud. In the first part of my work I seek to define a notion that intersects several fields of knowledge : theology, philosophy, aesthetics and psychoanalysis. This initial research enables me to make sublimation a concept with which to analyze literary texts. I will then seek to identify the sublimation characteristic of Larbaud. It emanates from a modern desire to describe, in the interior of the work, the creative act on the basis of the erotic. It results from a connection to the mother that determines the literary vocation. It can be explained also by the Catholicism of the author. These considerations give rise to new elegiac writings through which the notion of the sublime evolves in the first half of the 20th century in France

Abstract:
Despite the potential advantages of the organic electronic devices such as flexibility and inexpensive manufacturing processes, they require improvements in terms of performance and lifetime. In this context, engineering interfaces plays an important role and doping, which allows the controlled position of the Fermi level and which has significantly contributed to the success of inorganic semiconductors, is a technique deserving to be explored. This work therefore describes the analysis of doped organic semiconductors deposited by co-sublimation in vacuum to improve the charge extraction and transport in electronic devices and more particularly in organic photovoltaic cells (OPV). The change in electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and morphology is discussed for both p and n-type doping of different materials, before being used as interface layers in OPV cells. In most cases, the introduction of these interface layers has improved contact at organic / electrode interfaces and has enhanced the selectivity of the contacts which has reduced the voltage drops. State-of-the-art efficiencies could then be obtained by inserting some of these doped layers in solar cells based on P3HT: PCBM.Moreover, following the recent interest of the scientific community for organic thermoelectricity whose optimization requires the control of the doping level, these doped layers were also studied and considered to develop a prototype of a planar thermoelectric device

Abstract:
The main objective of this work was the study and the optimization of the freeze-drying process of ibuprofen with aqueous and/or organic based formulations. A detailed comparative study was realized at different steps of the ibuprofen freeze-drying process for both types of investigated formulations. This comparative study was realized at the succesives stages of freezing, sublimation and desorption and also concerned some properties of the final freeze-dried product (humidity, rehydratability, aspect…). We observed that the use of eutectic A mixture, corresponding to 20 % TBA + 80 % water (mass %) as co-solvent, allowed a strong increase of the solubility of ibuprofen and for the same operating conditions (Tshelf and Pc), led to an increase of drying kinetics values by a factor 1.8 by comparison to aqueous based formulations of ibuprofen. Besides, the experimental determination of equilibrium solid-vapour pressure and of sublimation enthaly values was carried out by using two different methods: the thermogravimetic method and the static method. These determinations allowed to conclude that the increase of sublimation kinetics resulted essentially from the higher equilibrium solid-vapour pressure values and from the lower sublimation enthalpy value of eutectic A by camparison to pure ice values. Next, these thermodynamical data were used as key parameters in the modelling of the sublimation stage under Comsol Multiphysics. In fine, the overall optimization of the operating parameters of sublimation stage was achieved by using the Design Space aproach. It proved that the organic based formulation led to final freeze-died cakes which fulfilled largely the main quality criteria (color, aspect, solvents residues, etc.). Thus, the development of an ibuprofen freeze-drying process with organic based formulation seems more advantageous than an aqueous based formulation process

Abstract:

From the beginning of opera to the present day : four hundred years of relations, continual swings, between lyric art and literature; four hundred years during which poets, novelists, essayists, critics have tried to seize in words the art of those men and above all those women who seemed to them as being the music's most eminent and expressive, as well as the most touching soul : the singer's but still more the "cantatrice"'s art and soul. Four hundred uneven years with, in their central part, approximatively, a sudden swelling, a "crescendo" of literary interest towards those unexpected heroes and heroines from a different stage and from a different expression. Now it is this central part we have chosen as the object of our study, this short period - thirty years really, fifty years at the most - but when literary inspiration has increased and nourrished itself in a tremendous scale upon a spreading enthusiasm towards one of, perhaps, the most deeply romantic topic ever offered to a generation eager for passions, ideal and noble and highly exciting fervours : the "cantatrice" in this first half of the 19th century

Abstract:
The object of our research led ourself to wonder about the place of the look as such it is the object a, object cause of wish. The look instinct connected with this object a, moved ourself towards the sublimation so called by Freud. The wording of Freud : “Nothing is in the mind which wasn’t in the senses” drawned the framework. From the senses’ birth to the relation between the five senses and the object a, we developped the concept of sublimation. From this concept of sublimation, links appeared with perversion, autism, phobia through the play of differents objects which are connected to them. Then we defined the symbolism process used to settle the first traces, visualize pictures and what is about the state of creator process. We tried, through works of Leonard de Vinci and Albrecht Dürer to show where the sublimation takes part in the wishing subject’s srtructure and how the five senses’ feelings would displace themselves one compared to another and would be condensed in the look

Some additional experiments under different conditions (Ar background, higher temperature, higher off-axis substrate) were performed in order to further investigate growth influencing factors. The samples were characterized by optical microscopy and atomic force microscopy. A dependence of 3C/6H growth on substrate off-axis, as well as on temperature, was clear to be seen. Favored growth of 6H in the presence of N2 was found.  An enlargement effect on the 3C domains grown in N2 ambient was observed. Additionally a correlation between step bunching and growth rate was found in step flow growth on low off-axis substrates. Suggestions for relevant growth mechanisms are made. Further work is discussed.

Abstract:
The growth of bulk cubic silicon carbide has for a long time seemed to be something for the future. However, in this thesis the initial steps towards bulk cubic silicon carbide have been taken. The achievement of producing bulk cubic silicon carbide will have a great impact in various fields of science and industry such as for example the fields of semiconductor technology within electronic- and optoelectronic devices and bio-medical applications. The process that has been used to grow the bulk cubic silicon carbide is a modification of the seeded sublimation growth, and the seeds have been grown by sublimation epitaxy. Selected samples have been characterized with a variety of different methods. The surface morphology of the samples has been examined using optical microscope, atomic force microscope and scanning electron microscope. The crystal structure has been investigated by the methods X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The electrical resistance of the grown seeds was evaluated by four probe measurements. High crystal quality seeds have been grown with semiconductor properties and bulk silicon carbide was demonstrated using the seeds.

Abstract:
The mechanisms of the sublimation of graphene at zero pressure and the condensation of carbon vapor is investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The interatomic interactions are described by the Reactive Empirical Bond Order potential (REBO). It is found that graphene sublimates at a temperature of 5,200 K. At the onset of sublimation, defects that contain several pentagons and heptagons are formed, that are shown to evolve from double vacancies and stone wales defects. These defects consisting of pentagons and heptagons act as nucleation sites for the gaseous phase. The influence of the interatomic interactions on the sublimation process are also investigated by comparing the results using the REBO potential with the Screened Environment Dependent (SED)-REBO potential. Two-dimensional MD simulations are also performed, and it is found that graphene melts at a much higher temperature and forms many more point defects than in three dimensions. It is also observed that carbon chains make up the two-dimensional molten state. The isothermal equation of state of gaseous and liquid carbon, as well as the coexistence of the two phases is calculated at 6,000 K and up to a few GPa. The analysis shows that the material that forms immediately following the phase transformation in graphene is actually a coexistence of liquid and gaseous phases, but it is primarily two-fold coordinated, so it is mostly a gas, hence the identification of the phase transformation as sublimation. The coexistence pressure for liquid and gaseous carbon is found using the Maxwell Construction to be 0.0365 GPa at 6,000 K. It was previously believed that carbon vapor consists exclusively of carbon chains. We find that under compression, at a pressure lower than the coexistence pressure, carbon vapor develops a small amount (6 %) of sp2 bonds indicating a slight non-chain bonding character. The diffusion coefficient of this dense gas is calculated to be in between that of the liquid and gaseous phases.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Missions of CO2 are increasing, leading to temperature increase of Earth. This led to the Kyoto Protocol which aims at the elaboration of policies of limitation of the emissions of greenhouse gases among which CO2. A large number of options exist to limit CO2 emissions associated with energy production, one of them is developed in this dissertation, the CO2 capture from flue gases. Usual techniques of CO2 capture are briefly analyzed. The major part of this work concerns the development of a new CO2 capture based on the CO2 frosting at low temperature. The CO2 frosting is performed by a refrigerating system composed of an integrated cascade, which offers evaporating temperatures lower than the CO2 frosting temperature. Several architectures are analyzed in order to choose the most energy efficient one. A prototype mock-up has been designed and realized for the validation of the global concepts of the CO2 frosting and defrosting. The components have been sized using computerized tools developed for the modeling of multi-stage integrated cascades. The system includes two low-temperature evaporators operating alternatively in frosting and defrosting modes to permit continuous system operation. The "cold" energy from defrosting is recovered by the refrigerant blend, which permits to improve the energy efficiency of the system

Abstract:
Abandonment is viewed as a major kind of helplessness and child's rejection by parents, opening a specific and original field to rebuilding of social link. The reconstruction is centered in the second family myth and social working. Substitute family and social workers are mediators between the first family which is incestuous and violent -unable to create psychically- and the quest for a state-guaranteed social acknowledgment. Such a delegation realises a vicarious mission, the goal of which being to reconcile the family law and the city law, about a child's personalization: it is a sublimatory aim. It takes root in guilt and rivalry; but the deadly and symptomatic side of them may be perceived when vicarious action is likely to spoil. As a rule guilt and rivalry are appearing outside a therapeutic and transference settle, since they are displaying as veiled through new substitute parenthood and social organisation so as to screen their own pathologic features. Thus the matter consists of binding such an experience of vicarious action to the genesis of categories that frame and organize it in the social field. Therefore that connection deals with phenomenology and not only with clinical psychopathology. Those categories are the following: artificial parental link and public education. This collective awareness of abandonment and rebuilding of social link is typified in two shapes: firstly vicarious foster working, secondly vicarious adoptive action. The former shows a relation to state power regarding an actual kind of universality; but that sublimation most often finds out an incompleteness through its common and narcissic features with perversion. The latter reveals how the state is giving up its own power and how the adoptive family may recover the common status of basic family. So this analysis brings to light a correspondence between a process of socialization and a psychological organization. Showing sociability strata and their mutations may contribute to an anthropology of some cultural changes and enlighten the practitioner's behaviour as well as ethics

Abstract:
The thesis deals with the concept of feminine sublimation among Chinese feminist writings and theory. Previous feminist readings of literary works of Chinese female writers tended to confuse the Freudian concept of sublimation with “aestheticized politics” and utopian desire. These feminist readings have concentrated on articulating an authentic subject beyond power relations. I would however, redefine the concept of feminine sublimation as a theoretical trope to articulate the possible emergence of female subjectivity within specific power relations. Although gender performativity has become a universally circulated concept to theorize the subversive depiction of female bodies in particular cultural contexts, I argue that any performative reiteration would not be adequately contextualized and historicized when its usage ignores issues of female subjectivity in terms of sublimation. Chapter one of the thesis begins with various feminist approaches to the relationship of sublimation and performativity. Chapter two re-reads a novel Song of Youth in the socialist era. The conventional conception of sublimation is re-examined contextually in a way that the consideration of gender performativity alone would not be able to do. Through reading a canonical work of the “nationalist feminist” writer Xiao Hong, chapter three delineates the relation between my redefined concept of feminine sublimation and the possibility of political coalition, and explains how this relation provides a totally different understanding of performative reiteration. I would finally redefines the fundamental relationship between feminist subjectivity and performative politics.

Full text
Abstract:
Concerns: to question it inside the theory and to put it in resonance with the clinic to determine its field application and its heuristic value. Starting from its conceptual belonging to the doctrine of jouissance, this research shows how sublimation contributes to the determination of two dimensions of the psychoanalytic experience: the emergence of the subject beyond the pleasure principle and the constitution of the object below this principle. A topology of the transfer that articulates them becomes visible in the light of its conceptualization. On this axis, this research posits that the Lacanian conceptualization of sublimation questions the reduction of transference to its imaginary and narcissistic nature. With the concept of sublimation, this reduction, de-constructive of the love of transfer enunciated by Freud and theorized from the perspective of the relationship of the lover to the beloved in the Platonic banquet, is doomed to be surpassed as a necessity of discourse by courteous love. Clinical vignettes show how sublimation intervenes in a practice that aims at the conversion of jouissance to desire according to the device of the letter and structures by its action the psychoanalytical discourse. A valorization of the term of sublimation is essential in order to specify its specificity in front of others which are correlative to it like the neologism sinthome or the acceptation that Lacan gives to the term of stool. An epistemological consideration emerges from its autonomous capacity to produce knowledge within the discourse of psychoanalysis
