Abstract:
Workplace spirituality is one subject that has appealed to many. In the midst of challenges, people resort to spirituality. Many realize the true meaning of life through spirituality. It has meaningful work, sense of community and alignment of values as its dimensions and studies done on the subject show its positive relationship with other variables such as job satisfaction, job engagement , organizational commitment, job control, ethical climate, self-efficacy, job performance, organizational performance and so on. This study aims to validate the effect of workplace spirituality on job satisfaction among higher education professors of business subjects. A survey was deployed to 38 business professors from colleges and universities and data was analyzed by Jamovi 1.6.23 version. Data was tested for normality, reliability, multicollinearity and heteroscedasticity The result showed that workplace spirituality has a significant effect on the job satisfaction among business professors regardless of age, gender, religion, civil status or employment status. Further studies can be done by covering other professions, increasing the population, adding more variables or inserting mediating or moderating variables, or a qualitative research can be done on the subject extensively to prove that it can help address human resource challenges and will make the workplace conducive to productivity and profitability

Abstract:
This paper investigates the leverage effect in African countries by applying normal and non-normal distribution densities. Furthermore, we investigate the possible opportunities for portfolio diversification in South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt. We find that negative stock returns do not generate higher volatility in further returns than past positive returns. All three countries are subject to the ARCH effect, where past stock information (volatility) influence the current stock returns (volatility). We also find that Gaussian distribution produces a better estimate as compared to non-normal distribution. In terms of portfolio diversification, returns are also subject to the ARCH effect, however, the leverage effect does not determine that past negative returns influence the current stock returns asymmetrically.

Abstract:
“N-of-1,” or single subject, clinical trials seek to determine if an intervention strategy is more efficacious for an individual than an alternative based on an objective, empirical, and controlled study. The design of such trials is typically rooted in a simple crossover strategy with multiple intervention response evaluation periods. The effect of serial correlation between measurements, the number of evaluation periods, the use of washout periods, heteroscedasticity (i.e., unequal variances among responses to the interventions) and intervention-associated carry-over phenomena on the power of such studies is crucially important for putting the yield and feasibility of N-of-1 trial designs into context. We evaluated the effect of these phenomena on the power of different designs for N-of-1 trials using analytical theory based on standard likelihood principles assuming an autoregressive lag 1, i.e., AR(1), serial correlation structure among the measurements as well as simulation studies. By evaluating the power to detect effects in many different settings, we show that the influence of serial correlation and heteroscedasticity on power can be substantial, but can also be mitigated to some degree through the use of appropriate multiple evaluation periods. We also show that the detection of certain types of carry-over effects can be heavily influenced by design considerations as well.

Abstract:
Understanding the key factors that contribute to transit travel times and travel-time variability is an essential part of transit planning and research. Delay that occurs when buses service bus stops, dwell time, is one of the main sources of travel-time variability and has therefore been the subject of ongoing research to identify and quantify its determinants. Previous research has focused on testing new variables using linear regressions that may be added to models to improve predictions. An important assumption of linear regression models used in past research efforts is homoscedasticity or the equal distribution of the residuals across all values of the predicted dwell times. The homoscedasticity assumption is usually violated in linear regression models of dwell time and this can lead to inconsistent and inefficient estimations of the independent variable coefficients. Log-linear models can sometimes correct for the lack of homoscedasticity, that is, for heteroscedasticity in the residual distribution. Quantile regressions, which predict the conditional quantiles, rather than the conditional mean, are non-parametric and therefore more robust estimators in the presence of heteroscedasticity. This research furthers the understanding of established dwell determinants using these novel approaches to estimate dwell and provides a relatively simple approach to improve existing models at bus stops with low average dwell times.

Abstract:
Background. Scoring algorithms of multi-attribute utility instruments (MAUI) are developed in valuation studies and are hence estimated subject to uncertainty. Valuation studies need to be designed to achieve reasonable accuracy. We aim to provide the first closed-form mathematical formula for the mean square error (MSE) of an additive MAUI as a function of sample size that acknowledges that the MAUI model for the mean utility is not a perfect fit. Methods. Based on the design of the EQ-5D valuation study, we derived our closed-form formula in terms of sample size and number of directly valued health states overall and per subject. We validated our formula by conducting a simulation study using the US EQ-5D-3L valuation data set and examined the effect of using a random-effects versus an ordinary least-squares model and the effect of heteroscedasticity. We explored the effect of sample size and number of valued health states. Results. The simulation study validated our MSE-based closed-form formula regardless of whether assuming a random-effects model versus an ordinary least squares model or heteroscedasticity versus homoscedasticity. As the sample size approaches infinity, the MSE does not approach zero but levels off asymptotically. The improvement based on increasing sample is more prominent when the sample is small. When the sample size is greater than 300 to 500, further increases do not meaningfully improve the MSE, while increasing the number of health states can further improve the MSE. Conclusion. We have derived a closed-form formula to calculate the MSE of an additive MAUI scoring algorithm based on sample size and number of health states, which will enable the developers of MAUI valuation studies to calculate the required sample size for their desired predictive precision.

Abstract:
The joint modeling of mean and variance for longitudinal data is an active research area. This type of model has the advantage of accounting for heteroscedasticity commonly observed in between and within subject variations. Most of researches focus on improving the estimating efficiency but ignore many data features frequently encountered in practice. In this article, we develop a mixed-effects location scale joint model that concurrently accounts for longitudinal data with multiple features. Specifically, our joint model handles heterogeneity, skewness, limit of detection, measurement errors in covariates which are typically observed in the collection of longitudinal data from many studies. We employ a Bayesian approach for making inference on the joint model. The proposed model and method are applied to an AIDS study. Simulation studies are performed to assess the performance of the proposed method. Alternative models under different conditions are compared.

Abstract:
One of the most important economic factors in food choice is the price. Food dynamics' value is a subject of controversies and opinions, especially price issues, and sensitivity is often peculiar to seasons and market forces. Price dynamics have the potential to introduce and change consumptions, thus affecting household welfare. This study examined the dynamics of food price volatility and households' welfare in Nigeria from 1990: Q1 to 2019: Q4. We sourced the study data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Bank (WB). We estimated the quadratic trend equation, Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH), and Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) models. Food prices and depth of food deficit had a significant short-run impact on the households' welfare. Policymakers should focus on the short-term benefits while formulating policies aimed at households' welfare because policies aimed at the household level are impactful in the short-run compared to the long-run.

Abstract:
Abstract Heteroscedastic Gaussian process regression, based on the concept of chained Gaussian processes, is used to build surrogates to predict site-specific loads on an offshore wind turbine. Stochasticity in the inflow turbulence and irregular waves results in load responses that are best represented as random variables rather than deterministic values. Moreover, the effect of these stochastic sources on the loads depends strongly on the mean environmental conditions - for instance, at low mean wind speeds, inflow turbulence produces much less variability in loads than at high wind speeds. Statistically, this is known as heteroscedasticity. Deterministic and most stochastic surrogates do not account for the heteroscedastic noise, giving an incomplete and potentially misleading picture of the structural response. In this paper, we draw on the recent advancements in statistical inference to train a heteroscedastic surrogate model on a noisy database to predict the conditional pdf of the response. The model is informed via 10-minute load statistics of the IEA-10MW-RWT subject to both aero- and hydrodynamic loads, simulated with OpenFAST. Its performance is assessed against the standard Gaussian process regression. The predicted mean is similar in both models, but the heteroscedastic surrogate approximates the large-scale variance of the responses significantly better.

Abstract:
This research analyzes the relationship between free cash flows (FCFs) and the different levels of Corporate Governance present in the Brazilian stock market. To this end, the sample was composed of 212 Brazilian publicly traded companies listed on Brasil, Bolsa, Balcão [B]³, in the period from 2010 to 2018. The methodology consisted of estimating a regression for panel data, using the random effects model, estimating by generalized least square (GLS) and assuming adjustments for autocorrelation and robust standard errors for heteroscedasticity. The results found, for the sample studied, suggest that Corporate Governance levels are positively related to the FCFs. In synergy, when compared to the Traditional level of [B]³, companies listed on the Novo Mercado and Level 2 levels tend to present higher FCF values. In addition, the larger the size of the companies and the higher their return on equity, the higher their FCFs tend to be, just as companies in stages of maturity tend to present lower FCF values. The relevance of this research is based on analyzing, in a stock market subject to imperfections, factors that may affect decisions about the level of cash maintenance of companies, more specifically by evaluating how Corporate Governance mechanisms relate to the theory of FCFs, in a context of potential conflict of interest.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The present study aims to determine the impact of bank revenue diversification on Brazilian banks’ risk and return. This strategy has been adopted by banks in several countries, including Brazil. In 2003, noninterest income accounted for 17.80% of the operating revenue of the banks analyzed, and in 2014, this share increased to 27.40%. While many studies have addressed the subject in American, European and Asian banks, it still has not been approached in a sample of Brazilian banks. Since the banking industry is a key variable for the financial system’s stability, it is important to study the factors that affect banks’ risk and return. We analyzed the sample for the period from 2003 to 2014, using dynamic panel data GMM (Generalized Method of Moments) to address endogeneity, heteroscedasticity and autocorrelation problems. Our main results show that noninterest income has a major role in the performance of the banks studied; our analysis of financial intermediation activities showed that loan operations produced better results than trading. Moreover, confirming the hypotheses proposed, noninterest income showed a generally positive impact on return and risk adjusted return for the banks studied. However, against our expectation, noninterest income showed a positive relationship with the risk of these banks (although not statistically significant). It is worth highlighting the control variables, i.e., real interest rate, GDP and bank growth, which were relevant in determining bank performance.

This study aims to examine the effect of financial performance (profitability, liquidity, leverage), public ownership, and company age on voluntary disclosure of Private Non-Foreign Exchange National Bank companies either partially or simultaneously. The subject in this study were Private Non-Foreign Ex-change National Bank companies that listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange and published annual fi-nancial reports for the 2014-2018 period. The number of sample were 6 companies. This study used de-scriptive and verification methods with quantitative approach. The data of this study were secondary data that used annual financial reports of each company. The design of hypothesis testing was classic assump-tion test (normality test, autocorrelation test, multicollinearity test, heteroscedasticity test) and multiple linear regression analysis (coefficient of determination, t test and F test). The results show company age partially has significant effect on voluntary disclosure. While financial performance (profitability, liquidi-ty, leverage) and public ownership partially has no effect on voluntary disclosure. The results proved that the longer the company becomes a public company, it is expected that the company will have more experi-ence on the information needs by the investors and will meet their information needs through voluntary disclosure of the company's annual report. Financial performance (profitability, liquidity, leverage), pub-lic ownership, and company age has a significant effect on voluntary disclosure simultaneously with a co-efficient determination of 24.5%.

Abstract:
AbstractIn a research paper, the authors provide an empirical approach to taxes and economic growth in the United States in the period 1996-2016. The basic goal is to explore how taxes affect economic growth. The subject of the research is measuring the effects of tax revenue growth and tax form as a personal income tax, corporate income tax and social security contributions on gross domestic product as a proxy for economic growth. Methodology framework includes several tests to clear the potential problem of heteroscedasticity, autocorrelation, multicollinearity and specification of the model. Based on diagnostic tests, a regression model is adequately created where fundamental econometric procedures are applied. Correlation matrix reflects a strong and positive relationship between tax revenue growth and corporate income tax on the one side and gross domestic product growth, on the another side. Also, personal income tax and social security contributions are weakly related to gross domestic product growth. The model shows a significant effect of tax revenue growth and social security contributions, while personal income tax and corporate income tax do not have a significant impact on gross domestic product growth. Interestingly, personal income tax as the main tax form in the tax structure of the United States has no significant impact on economic growth compared to social security contributions which percentage share is lesser.

Abstract:
Renewable energy sources play a key role in decarbonizing the economy of the European Union (EU) and the world. The aim of this research is to present the development of the renewable energy sources (RES) sector in the European Union (EU), with particular emphasis on sustainable development. The EU guidelines, requirements, and directives were analyzed in order to meet the provisions of the energy policy to ensure energy and climate security. The potential of the RES was studied in the EU countries, and the possibility of its use in cogeneration with the use of local renewable resources. The results are presented in tabular, graphic, and descriptive forms. The results are presented based on the extensive literature on the subject and data from Eurostat. The data covered 2004–2019. We used different methods to evaluate the changes in the RES in the EU countries. First, we compiled descriptive statistics; second, we used the Augmented Dickey–Fuller test (ADF test); and, finally, we used the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity model (GARCH model). Our analysis found that the EU increased the share of RES. The biggest share of energy from renewable energy sources was found in 2019 in Iceland (78%), Norway (74%), and Sweden (56%). The biggest increase in the share of RES in 2004–19 was found in Malta (8322%), Great Britain (1126%), and Luxemburg (784%). The results demonstrate the development of RES in the EU countries. However, not all countries achieved the planned goal in 2019.

Abstract:
Low and high birth weight (BW) are important risk factors for neonatal morbidity and mortality. Gynecologists must therefore accurately predict BW before delivery. Most prediction formulas for BW are based on prenatal ultrasound measurements carried out within one week prior to birth. Although successfully used in clinical practice, these formulas focus on point predictions of BW but do not systematically quantify uncertainty of the predictions, i.e. they result in estimates of the conditional mean of BW but do not deliver prediction intervals. To overcome this problem, we introduce conditionally linear transformation models (CLTMs) to predict BW. Instead of focusing only on the conditional mean, CLTMs model the whole conditional distribution function of BW given prenatal ultrasound parameters. Consequently, the CLTM approach delivers both point predictions of BW and fetus-specific prediction intervals. Prediction intervals constitute an easy-to-interpret measure of prediction accuracy and allow identification of fetuses subject to high prediction uncertainty. Using a data set of 8712 deliveries at the Perinatal Centre at the University Clinic Erlangen (Germany), we analyzed variants of CLTMs and compared them to standard linear regression estimation techniques used in the past and to quantile regression approaches. The best-performing CLTM variant was competitive with quantile regression and linear regression approaches in terms of conditional coverage and average length of the prediction intervals. We propose that CLTMs be used because they are able to account for possible heteroscedasticity, kurtosis, and skewness of the distribution of BWs.

Abstract:
Research has shown that current health expenditure in most countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, is inadequate and unsustainable. Yet, fraud, abuse, and waste in health insurance claims by service providers and subscribers threaten the delivery of quality healthcare. It is therefore imperative to analyze health insurance claim data to identify potentially suspicious claims. Typically, anomaly detection can be posited as a classification problem that requires the use of statistical methods such as mixture models and machine learning approaches to classify data points as either normal or anomalous. Additionally, health insurance claim data are mostly associated with problems of sparsity, heteroscedasticity, multicollinearity, and the presence of missing values. The analyses of such data are best addressed by adopting more robust statistical techniques. In this paper, we utilized the Bayesian quantile regression model to establish the relations between claim outcome of interest and subject-level features and further classify claims as either normal or anomalous. An estimated model component is assumed to inherently capture the behaviors of the response variable. A Bayesian mixture model, assuming a normal mixture of two components, is used to label claims as either normal or anomalous. The model was applied to health insurance data captured on 115 people suffering from various cardiovascular diseases across different states in the USA. Results show that 25 out of 115 claims (21.7%) were potentially suspicious. The overall accuracy of the fitted model was assessed to be 92%. Through the methodological approach and empirical application, we demonstrated that the Bayesian quantile regression is a viable model for anomaly detection.

Full text
Abstract:
PurposeThe main purpose of the research is to determine if the relationship between trading volume and price changes is connected to market effectiveness and to use the volume-price relationship to compare the efficiency levels of foreign markets. The degree of the relationship is determined in this study, and the efficiency levels of different countries' capital markets are compared.Design/methodology/approachIn this study, 1,024 observations are used as a data set, which includes daily closing prices and trading volume in the stock market indices of 25 countries between the dates of 01.12.2016 and 31.12.2020. In the first step of the analysis, descriptive statistics of price and volume series are examined. The stationarity of the series is then controlled using the ADF unit root test. Simple linear regression models with the dependent variable of trading volume are generated for all stock market indices after each series has reached stationarity, and the ARCH heteroscedasticity test is used to determine whether these models contain the ARCH effect. Because all models have the ARCH effect, autoregressive models are chosen, and EGARCH models are conducted for all indices to see whether there is an asymmetry in the price-volume relationship.FindingsThe study concludes that the stock market in the United States is the most effective, since it has the strongest relationship between trading volume and price changes. However, because of the financial distress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the relationship between price and trading volume is lower in Eurozone countries. The price-volume relationship could not be observed in some shallow markets. Furthermore, whereas the majority of countries have a negative relationship between price changes and transaction volume, China, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar have a positive relationship. When prices rise in these countries, investors buy with the sense of hope provided by the optimistic atmosphere, and when prices fall, they sell with the fear of losing money.Research limitations/implicationsThe study's most significant limitation is that it is difficult to ascertain a definitive conclusion about the subject under investigation. In reality, if the same research is done using data from different countries and time periods, the results are quite likely to vary.Practical implicationsAs a result of the study, investors can decide which market to enter by comparing and analyzing the price-volume relationship of several markets. According to the study's findings, investors are advised to examine the price-volume relationship in a market before beginning to trade in that market. In this way, investors can understand the market's efficiency and whether it is overpriced.Social implicationsThe relationship between price movements and trade volume gives crucial information about a capital market's internal structure. Some concerns can be answered by assessing this relationship, such as whether the market has a speculative pricing problem, how information flows to the market, and whether investment decisions are rational and homogenous. Empirical studies on modeling this relationship, on the other hand, have not reached a definite outcome. The main reason for this is that the price-to-volume relationship fluctuates depending on the market structure. The purpose of this study is to fill a gap in the literature by presenting the reasons why this critical issue in the literature cannot be answered, as well as empirical findings.Originality/valueThe significance and originality of this research are that it examines the price-volume relationship to evaluate the efficiency levels of various markets. This relationship is being investigated in a number of multinational studies. These researches, on the other hand, were conducted to see if there is a relationship between trading volume and market volatility, and if so, how that interaction is formed. The size of the price and volume relationship is emphasized in this study, unlike previous studies in the literature.

Abstract:
Non-constant error variance in Normal Linear Regression Model (NLRM) is an econometric problem generally referred to as heteroscedasticity. Its presence renders statistical inference invalid. Classical approach to its detection, estimation and remediation are widely discussed in the econometric literature. However, estimation of a NLRM using the Bayesian approach when heteroscedasticity problem is present is a major gap in the existing stock of knowledge on this subject. This approach has grown widely in recent times because it combines out-of-sample information with observed data. The study derived Bayesian estimators of the NLRM in the presence of functional forms of heteroscedasticity. Variance was treated as a linear function and as an exponential function of exogenous variables. The estimators are found to be unbiased and consistent and the precision values tend to zero. The estimates obtained from the estimators approximately 95% draws fall within each of the corresponding credible interval. Therefore, the results obtained for the derived Bayesian estimators for different functional forms of heteroscedasticity considered are similar, thus, providing a credible alternative to the existing classical methods which depend solely on the sample information.

Abstract:
Housing prices have been the subject of many studies, and some of them have tried to determine the influencing structural and location factors through hedonic econometric models. One of the main factors considered in the literature on real estate appraisals is the location of the dwellings. For this reason, this study combines the spatial methodologies of geostatistics and spatial econometrics. On the one hand, this work uses geostatistics to estimate missing data to account for the lack of information in the sampled real estate websites. On the other hand, the explanatory factors of prices are determined through spatial econometrics. The combination of both methods facilitates estimating housing prices in Santa Marta (Colombia), solving the problem of missing data. In the modeling, the problems of spatial heteroscedasticity and multicollinearity are corrected. This combination of methods could be of great interest to company ies and public agencies related to real estate activity, which is sustained by the information available on these real estate websites.

Abstract:
Due to globalization, markets are becoming more interconnected as the companies are engaged in doing cross-border offerings. Currently, competitions are intensified because Domestic organizations discover themselves competing with each nearby opposite numbers and worldwide companies. But one component that hinders SMEs is the need for reliable and similar monetary data. According to Abarca (2014), adoption of a high-quality and consistent set of accounting requirements is critical so as for the businesses to remain competitive in ASEAN member states. This paper ambitions to answer the query, what modified into the extent of the impact of compliance with full IFRS and IFRS for SMEs on profitability of agencies belong to real property enterprise? This paper moreover sought to decide whether there may be a sizeable distinction among the groups’ compliance with the overall PFRS and the PFRS for SMEs and to determine whether or now not there is a massive distinction among the companies’ financial normal overall performance earlier than and after the adoption of the PFRS for SMEs.Paired T-test have become employed in case you need to determine whether there is a big distinction between the agencies’ compliance with the entire PFRS and the PFRS for SMEs and to decide whether or not there may be a big difference some of the groups’ monetary performance earlier than and after the adoption of the PFRS for SMEs. Using STATA, the great appropriate version for every economic ratio on the subject of degree of compliance emerge as determined on. First, take a look at parm command became used to find out which most of the Least Squares Dummy Variable Regression Modes (LSDV1, LSDV2, LSDV3) underneath the Fixed Effects Model is the ideal version. Afterwards, Hausman Fixed Random Test changed into used to pick out out which is more suitable amongst Fixed Effects Model and Random Effects Model. If Fixed Effects Model modified into the more appropriate one, the Wald’s test turn out to be used to determine the best version among Fixed Effects Model and Ordinary Least Squares Model. On the alternative hand, if Random Effects Model became the more suitable one, the Breusch and Pagan Lagrangian Multiplier Test for Random Effect have become used to decide the satisfactory version amongst Random Effects Model and Ordinary Least Squares. Moreover, if Ordinary Least Squares became the splendid model, it is going to be in addition tested to check for heteroscedasticity and multicollinearity. White’s test became used to check for heterescedasticity and Variance Inflation Factor have become used to test if multicollinearity is gift. The results display that the adoption of PFRS for SMEs stepped forward the compliance of Philippine real property SMEs.
