Full textThe main objective of this thesis is to interpret the stories written by Sub-commandant Marcos which refer predominantly to Amerindians and the Amerindian world. In particular, we have chosen to analyze the literary representations and indigensit writing techniques employed, is an effort to establish a connection between the author's stories and Chipan indigenism. This is achieved, on the one hand, by examining the way in which the differend is dealt with, and on the other, by exploring some of the less familiar aspects of this literature on Amerindians. This study involves a narrative overhaul of both the Chiapan Amerindians and their world, with the help of several literary components in order to achieve a heterogenous and protean construction, such as the use of an indigenous and occidental dual perspective, the introduction of important generic, thematic and semantic changes and the literary to Chiapan indigenism, such as domination, religion and space, this form of narration offers a new esthetic positioning which is transformed over the course of historical events and over various imaginary territories chosen by Marcos. This style of writing offers a dislocated narrative paradigm, relatively free of anthropological aunthenticity and moral constraints, turning the indigenous reference into a subjective element and making in the backbone of a rhetorical strategy elaborated by Sub-commandant Marcos in an effort to gain the reader's support for the Zapatista cause

Full textThe purpose of this dissertation is to analyze how the zapatista discourse is built in the epistolary production of Subcomandante Marcos, member of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation (EZLN). We have dealt with the epistolary format which is the guerrilla's chosen style to spread his ideas and struggle. Thus, a panorama is drawn as well as an analysis of this frontier genre that Marcos' uses in order to conquer interlocutors. We have also handled with the issues related to the structure of the narrative (time, setting, character, narrator) and how they are explored in Sup's writings. Finally, under the focus of French Discourse Analysis theories, the zapatista discourse is examined assuming that it is the result of the hybridism between Mayan indigenous ancestry culture and Western literary canon.

Full textThis work aims to identify the historical construction of Subcomandante Marcos image, in the wake of the process of the construction of the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico. Marcos, whose real identity is hidden by himself (though the Mexican government publicly declared in 1995 that he is Professor Rafael Sebastián Guillén Vicente), is the main spokesperson of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) and stands as a symbol-image of the movement. Therefore, the dissertation seeks to present this individuals key importance to the movement (in the intellectual and political spheres), as well as understanding the dissolution of his own individuality (in the symbolic sphere) as Marcos seems to incarnate the revolutionary ideas of Zapatismo itself. The analytical emphasis, therefore, is on the messianist aspects inserted in this process, as well as on the elements that demonstrate representations of his own utopian existence, in order to understand the reasons why his leadership seems to have a sui generis dimension. This analysis, based on a thorough survey of primary and secondary sources, is relevant because the Zapatistas have established themselves as one of the most relevant contemporary political and social movements. Thus, conducting a systematic study of these aspects, it seeks to understand the historical importance of Subcomandante Marcos within the context of the rise of the Zapatistas.

Full textThis thesis reviews and analyzes the creation of media personalities in the Mexican press, in this case, Subcomandante Marcos’ discourse derived from the information created by the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (E.Z.L.N.) and published in El Financiero, the Mexican Newspaper that specializes in finance, from January 1994 to January 1995, and the sporadic turn outs that have been in the press in the last 19 years, the update is marked by the interviews that were made to the journalists who covered the event. The main objective is to identify the journalistic elements that contributed to the creation of personalities in the press based on the analysis of El Financiero, making a distinction between the local and global meaning of the texts from Subcomandante Marcos’ informative statements. We examine the journalistic genres that were used. We explain how the journalistic personality was appropriated, how Subcomandante Marcos was written about in a medium that specializes in finance, and for which the topics that the journalists used were revised, described and correlated for the characterization of this personality in a conceivable world. We find that the emotional charge with which the journalists receive the events is reflected in the texts they write, and the emotions that they perceive in reality manage to get into the text, influencing the reader in a way that favors the media personality. Four theoretical lines were explored: 1) Analysis of the social and political context. 2) Analysis of the press in Mexico, the production routines, and the journalistic genres. 3) Analysis of the discourse for the concrete review of the journalistic texts. 4) Analysis of the personalities based on literary theory with a semiotic perspective for the impassioned shaping of the personality in the press with the postulates of Algirdas J. Greimas and Jacques Fontanille. A total of 196 editions of the newspaper El Financiero were reviewed, and in 2012, 20 journalists who worked at the paper during that period of 1994 were interviewed, the presence of the personality was followed in the press to review how it appears and what is the current informative treatment given by the press. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first, “Creating personalities in the press”, consists of six chapters. The second, “The creation of personalities in the press” is made up of two chapters. In Mexico, Subcomandante Marcos is a myth or a hero from the past to the new generations. They do not relate his existence to the real world and consider him a personality which only exists in the collective imagination of society. Subcomandante Marcos is now a myth.

Full textThis thesis focuses on the heuristic and critical character of the utopian discourse, as it will be demonstrated through the Subcomandante Marcos’ writings, which present an exemplary case of the mechanisms at play in the utopian discourse. Starting with the operational definition of utopia as an expression of a social imagination resulting from a utopian practice whose function would be to criticize the ideological nature of spatiotemporal representations imposed by the dominant order and, subsequently questioning the contemporary dominant order and the spatial nature of its hegemony with the help of Henri Lefebvre and David Harvey’s works, the objective will be to demonstrate how, in his texts, Marcos produces an alternative representational space in which a mechanism of neutralization of oppositions (Louis Marin), an epoché, a judgment suspension occur, that is the only condition of possibility for overcoming the dominant order constraints in the realm of discourse and representations.
