Abstract:
Thinking the Fake : a Critical-Bibliographic Survey, In recent years falsification of works of art, in relation with questions of material and conceptual authenticity, sparked a growing interest among scholars, art market operators and academics as well as in the general press. The fake and its parent notions of copy, authenticity, originality and reproducibility of works of art are essential not only to the study of artistic practice and its reception but the history of art and of aesthetics. Using a selection of major publications in the field, the essay proposes a bibliographic survey that presents the different methods and concepts with which fakes in art have been approached by scholars.

Abstract:
Is there such a thing as a history sculpture ? A comparative essay on the monuments to great men in 19th century France and Italy. Numerous studies have shown the extent to which sculpture, to an even greater degree than painting, was linked to ideologies and therefore to the interpretation of history. To question the validity of the term "history sculpture" can seem incongruous. Yet, public commemorative monuments rarely veer out of the field of portraiture. The present essay seeks to study the motives and consequences of such visual and iconographical choices by focusing on two countries, Italy and France. Both experienced, after 1870, a significant increase in public commemorations, most notably paying tribute to recent events. This paper will more particularly examine the reluctance of representing recent events, the relationship between sculptors, patrons and municipal officials, and the fraught coexistence between effigy and simulacrum in the field of realism.

Abstract:
Landscapes, Documents or Vedute ? Étienne Dupérac’s Engraved Views and their Function in Rome in the 16th Century. On the basis of Renaissance descriptions of Rome, this essay outlines a critical and methodological reflection on the notion of “ views” at that period, the character of these images and their use in the fields of topography, urban landscape and the study of individual monuments. Through the analysis of drawings and prints, “views” are revealed as an ideal form of description (descriptio) that provides a variety of authors a perfect articulation between the aims of the text and those of the image. The ways in which these views are composed, read and labelled are considered using Étienne Dupérac’s Vestigi dell’antichità di Roma (1575). The essay presents several case studies of uses of views and ends with an analysis of the “public” function of prints in 16th-century art and culture.

Abstract:
The Annunciations by Fra Angelico, Pollaiuolo, Piero della Francesca and Robert Campin : Issues of Ornamentality and Colour. This study focuses on Tuscan Annunciations, with the addition of one from Umbria, created between the 1420s and the 1470s by, among others, Fra Angelico, the Pollaiuolo brothers, Piero della Francesca, Filippo and Filippino Lippi. It seeks to demonstrate that these painters used a high degree of ornamentality in order to embody the presence of the divine on earth. Indeed, ornamentality was intrinsically linked to the idea of beauty, itself an attribute of God and a heavenly trait. This essay examines in particular the abstract and multicolored mineral surfaces of the walls of Mary's house, which becomes the house of God at the Incarnation. This is followed by the temporary presence on earth of Gabriel, as the celestial being appears before Mary. The archangel's wings are the focus of careful analysis as they sometimes convey theological discourses expressed through chromatic.

Abstract:
The Object of the Performance. Towards a Reassessment of the Role of “Accessories” Produced and Displayed in Italian Artistic Centers in the 1970s ; A large part of the historiography on performance art still tends to focus on the ephemeral nature of its actions, taking for granted the rejection of commercial structures on which the ideology of the dematerialization of art was founded. By reducing performance art to an attitude, such discussions overlook the existence of its display environment. In order to understand the material culture of the art of performance, the essay focuses on the Italian art world of the 1970s, which, as a space of creation and dissemination of international performances, constitutes a remarkable case study, given the variety of structures it provided artists and audiences. Vito Acconci’s Italian career is used as the central thread to express three ways of grasping objects (both works and documents) : the exhibition as enunciation, the object as performance and performance as exhibition.

Full text
Abstract:
The princely studiolo is associated more than any other feature of the Italian renaissance palace with its owner's cultural identity and humanist credentials. Its Italian history begins in February 1414 when Paolo Guinigi, lord of Lucca from 1400 to 1430, paid Arduino da Baese 100 gold florins for a wooden study in his palace of the Augusta. The assumption is generally made that the importance of Guinigi's now lost studiolo rested on the novelty of Arduino's intarsia and its influence on the more famous studioli of Belriguardo and Belfiore in Ferrara, the Medici palace in Florence, and ultimately the great trompe l'œil studioli of Urbino and Gubbio. A close reading of the correspondence from Guinigi's agents in Genoa in 1413, however, reveals that its panelling was not Italian in manufacture, but was made of Baltic oak imported from Handers and followed the example of Europe's most prestigious court, the Valois. This suggests that intarsia was not as integral to the early development of the princely studiolo in early fifteenth century Italy as had been thought, and that the influence of French and Burgundian culture has been underestimated.

Abstract:
Roma triumphans and the birth of antiquarianism : Biondo Flavio and Andrea Mantegna. Biondo Flavio completed his Roma triumphans, the foundation of the Renaissance antiquarian movement, in 1459 while in Mantua. The work was immediately successful : in a letter written in December 1460 to Ludovico Gonzaga, Biondo himself reported that it was already being read and copied in courts all over Europe. First published in Mantua in 1473 and continually reprinted from the late 15th century to the mid-16th century, Roma triumphans rapidly became a crucial point of reference for the study of Roman antiquities. The first two books, devoted to religion, presented a reconstruction of the myths, cults and ceremonies of ancient Rome, with the help of a wide variety of sources. The origins of the cult of the goddess Cybele was thus recreated through the selection and unprecedented restitution of antique sources, which correspond precisely to those depicted in Mantegna's The Introduction of the Cult of Cybele in Rome. The artist must therefore have known the work, of which he undoubtedly owned a copy : in fact, a volume containing the writings of Biondo appears in the estate inventory of Ludovico Mantegna, the painter's son and heir, drawn up in 1510.

Abstract:
Thoughts on fifty years of Bernini studies. This overview of the past and extremely prolific half-century of studies dedicated to the greatest 17th-century Italian artist begins with Rudolf Wittkower's fundamental monograph (1955) and goes up to more recent years. The essay follows the division of the Bernini volume (a lengthy interpretative study and the catalogue of his works) and is split into two extensive paragraphs : the first (Knowing Bernini) takes stock of the acquisitions and gives an account of the main arguments of the debate on attribution, principally surrounding Bernini's sculptural work (for example, the young Bernini and his relationship with his father, or the chronology of the early works). However, it also touches on modeling, drawings and paintings. The second (Interpreting Bernini) reviews the main trends in the historical interpretation of Bernini's art (from his relationship with tradition to the theoretical dimension, to the rich and often debatable iconographical readings). A third paragraph attempts to outline the results and expectations stemming from an issue that held no interest for Wittkower but that has, in contrast, drawn the attention of recent generations of scholars : the relationship between society and Bernini, understood in a variety of different ways. An extensive (albeit not exhaustive) bibliography offers a first overview to those interested in focusing their research on Bernini.

Abstract:
Introduction: Tuberculosis is an age old disease and India has the highest disease burden. With the rise in HIV cases, the incidence of extrapulmonary tuberculosis has further increased. Both TB and EPTB remains a major health problem. Aim: To study the histopathological spectrum of EPTB with respect to its site, age and sex distribution. Material and Methods: This study is a retrospective study carried over a period of two years. We included 86 cases of EPTB from the departmental registry. The clinical details and the histopathological findings were noted. Results: We studied 86 cases of EPTB. Male: female ratio being 0.75. The most common age group was 21-30 years, followed by 31-40 years. Majority of cases involved the lymphoreticular system and the soft tissue. Rare sites included tonsil, thyroid, liver and kidney. Conclusion: Incidence of EPTB is on the rise as it mimics various other disease processes and may account for disease burden. Knowledge of the various EPTB sites in essential and should be kept as a differential diagnosis in histopathological reporting.

A study was conducted to determine the efficacy of a benzimidazole anthelmintic (fenbendazole) on horse farms in Slovakia. Nine stud farms with a total number of 80 horses were selected for the faecal egg count reduction (FECR) test. Resistance was assumed if egg count reduction was less than 90%. A low level of benzimidazole resistance was found on three farms (84.4–89.0%). On the remaining farms the results of the FECR test indicated substantial reduction in faecal egg output after treatment (92.5–99.4%). Larval identification before treatment revealed Cyathostominea larvae as being predominant.

Abstract:
A right iliac fossa mass is a ‘temple of surprises’ and a common presentation at emergency department, requiring skill and keeness to diagnose. Patients with right iliac fossa mass will be dealt by a general practitioner, a surgeon or a gynecologist and knowledge of anatomy, with detailed history, clinical examination directing towards the pathological process followed by lab analysis and imaging leads to a diagnosis. The most common differential diagnosis encountered are: appendicular mass, appendicular abscess, ileocecal tuberculosis, right ovarian mass, right ectopic kidney, rectus sheath hematoma, carcinoma caecum and ameboma, actinomycosis and crohn’s disease. An important differential diagnosis is often between an appendicular mass, carcinoma of the caecum and ileocecal tuberculosis.3 In Subcontinent, tuberculosis has been the main cause of intestinal obstruction and perforation. Cecal carcinoma is more common in the elderly and higher socio-economic group consuming less brous diet.1,5,6 Appendicular masses are seen in relatively younger people with both conservative and operative strategies. Other less common causes are diagnosed and managed accordingly.7

Its branches form anastomosis around the head of the femur. Profunda femoris artery is also used for arteriography. It is frequently used in vascular reconstructive procedures in the proximal thigh. It forms main route of collateral circulation in occlusion of femoral artery. The study of variation of Profunda femoris artery is of great value for radiologists and surgeons during diagnostic and surgical intervention. Aim of the study is to observe the origin of Profunda femoris artery, to measure the distance between midinguinal point and site of origin of Profunda femoris artery and to study the anatomy of Profunda femoris artery and its branches and to find out any variations in its course and its branches. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted as a prospective study from April 2018 to October 2018. All the lower limbs with the intact Femoral artery and Profunda femoris artery and their branches were included. Femoral artery and its branches had got cut during dissection were not included in the study. Thirty two Profunda femoris arteries (20 on the right side and 12 on the left side) were studied in the department of Anatomy. The femoral triangle was exposed by making incisions along the inguinal ligament from pubic symphysis to anterior superior iliac spine. Midpoint was taken as Midinguinal point (MIP). MIP was marked with a coloured pen. The distance between MIP and the site of origin of Profunda femoris artery was measured. We observed any variation in the site of origin of Profunda femoris artery, medial and lateral circumflex femoral artery and any variations in the branches of each vessel. Results: The Profunda femoris artery was found to be originated from lateral aspect of Femoral artery in 21(65%) of lower limbs. Lateral Circumflex femoral artery was found to be originating from lateral aspect of Profunda femoris artery in 28(87%) of lower limbs. Medial Circumflex femoral artery was found to be originating from medial aspect of Profunda femoris artery in 16(50%) of lower limbs. Lateral Circumflex femoral artery was found to be originating from Femoral artery in 3(10%) of lower limbs. We observed distance of origin of Profunda femoris artery from the midpoint of inguinal ligament as 10 – 20 mm in 10(31%) lower limbs. We observed absence of Lateral Circumflex femoral artery in 1(3%) of lower limbs and absence of medial Circumflex femoral artery in 6(18%) of lower limbs. Conclusions: The Profunda femoris artery is an important branch of the Femoral artery and is of clinical importance to the surgeon. Femoral artery and Profunda femoris artery were used for various imaging procedures including Cathetarization. Such a large & unexpected artery may be damaged while collecting blood in infants from Femoral vein or at the time of exposure of Saphenous vein for ligation at its junction with the femoral vein. During surgery, these vessels may be damaged easily at this region. Knowledge of anatomy and variations of Profunda femoris artery are important for surgeons in reducing intra – operative haemorrhage and postoperative complications

Abstract:

Abstract:
Modigliani at the Cité Falguière : the First Phase of his Sculpture in its Immediate Context Modigliani embarked on sculpture in an unusual environment – the studios at 14, Cité Falguière in Paris – whose actual physical and social aspects are examined here. The story of Modigliani''s various places of residence has been neglected to date, and yet useful information concerning the chronology of his sculpture can be gleaned from the places where the artist lived and the testimonies of his neighbours. The still controversial dating of some works, including the stone caryatid at the MoMa in New York, can thus be firmly established. This article also shows, through drawings, how his transition to sculpture developed ; it traces the guiding principles of his graphic production in 1910 – a year that seems to have disappeared from critical studies – and it is on these that the identification of Modigliani's first sculpture is based.

Abstract:
From the ideal of beauty to issues of attribution. Twenty years of research on 16th century Florentine portraiture. Considered too familiar in its overall evolution or not eminent enough in relation to Quattrocento portraiture, 16th century Florentine portraiture has become a topic of research only since the 1980s, thanks to important exhibitions on art in Tuscany during the Medici rule and to studies on Medicean portraiture. The latter's magnitude, along with ancient sources, bear witness to the genre's success amongst painters. However, the recent and abundant bibliography reveals the difficulty of establishing a corpus of works by an artist for this genre and of identifying their models. It also highlights new fields of research, such as the importance of the concept of beauty, the constitution of a model of Florentine portraiture, or the practice of portraiture within the Academy.

Abstract:
