Abstract:
The Philippine education system is currently under transition due to the implementation of Republic Act 10533, also known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act. Since its enactment in 2013, physical education researchers have been examining the initial impact of this transition. Yet, investigations to determine teachers' challenges in the sports Track Program of the senior high school curriculum were barely sufficient. Hence, this research was conducted to probe the challenges of these teachers using a qualitative phenomenology research design. Research participants from selected schools in the Cotabato Province in the Philippines were involved in focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and extensive field observation. Six significant concerns from the research participants transpired; these are difficulties with online learning, mismatched of students’ interests; unrealistic curriculum; inadequate facilities; overloaded teaching loads; and struggles of non-physical education graduates. The findings then served as crucial elements in drawing conclusions and recommendations to better implement the sports track program in the Philippine senior high school curriculum.

Abstract:
The principal aim of the paper was to find out the feedbacks and experiences of student beneficiaries on the conditional cash transfer of the DSWD as a poverty alleviation strategy of the Philippine government, how do the students coped with the challenges they have experienced from the program and solicited their insights about the cash transfer. The participants of this study were the college and high school students of the Municipality of Maragusan. The research methodology used in this study was a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data triangulation is also used in this study where accounts are collected from different informants. The first research question was all about the feedbacks and experiences of student grantees, which generated four emerging themes, namely: the feeling of gratitude, sense of pride, extended monetary assistance and feeling of discontentment. Coping mechanisms of student grantees were the second research question that generated three themes, such as juggling of funds, availing some loans due to delay of release and wise spending. Further, increasing the budget for beneficiaries, a clear policy for selection of grantees and parent dependency were the three themes that emerged under the third research question.

Abstract:
This study determined the Philippine government’s investment in state HEIs from 2005-2010 and their enrolments vis-á-vis the graduation and labor force participation. Findings reveal that SUCs’ budget increased every year with corresponding increase in expense per head, except for SY 2006-2007. Labor demand is low compared to the number of graduates from SUCs. Thus, analyses reveal that the government had a lost investment in tertiary education because the number of enrollees subsidized by the Philippine government decreased by the time they graduated. The number of those who became employed was even low. Recommendations include a strong link among SUCs, businesses, industries and other stakeholders, SUCs to offer student financial loans on priority courses, and influence they way of thinking of people towards entrepreneurship and self- employment. Keywords: Philippine investment, budget allocation, labor force participation, tertiary education

Abstract:
Although graffiti has become a significant cultural and linguistic phenomenon and has been studied throughout history, there is still room for the exploration of how graffiti in different contexts, particularly in a higher education institution, serves to voice the anonymous student writers’ thoughts and feelings. Thus, this study examines the common themes and the lexical and syntactic features of college students’ graffiti writings on the walls of a state college in Zamboanga del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines. Employing thematic analysis, this study reveals that students’ graffiti writings contain a variety of themes such as love, discrimination, self and group identities, hatred, sex, faith and religion, management, education, and fanaticism, with love and discrimination as the most prevailing social themes. Students’ graffiti writings also exemplify distinct lexical features such as loan and swear words, taboo words/expressions, abbreviations, ironies, acronyms, repetitions, and compound words. Borrowings and using offensive or swear words are the most common lexical features found among these graffiti writings. In addition, students often use brief or terse statements to clearly express their thoughts and feelings to the public. Indeed, graffiti writings are a distinctive and silent way of communication, particularly for students who are in the marginalised section of any society.

Abstract:
Graduate students are expected to demonstrate research know-how in order to successfully complete their educational goals (CMO 53, s. 2007). This study assessed the research competence of the graduate students of the College of Education, Northwest Samar State University, Philippines. More so, this utilized descriptive-correlational design employing the use of a questionnaire to gather data on the profile and level of research competence of the graduate students. Data were analyzed and statistically treated with frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson r. Results revealed that Graduate students were of middle age, mostly female, single, have been teaching for less than ten years, mostly Teacher 1, have only attended 4 to 5 days of training and whose mean length of research involvement was 1.19 year. Graduate students perceived themselves as “competent” in the indicators of research competence. Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between Graduate students’ profile and their research competence. It was also revealed that the inadequacy of training and seminar, lack of technical assistance, difficulty in identifying the researchable issues and constructing research titles, too many teaching loads/assignments, and lack of enough time to carry out research in the school were the problems encountered. Thus, it is suggested that the Graduate students must undergo enhancement training for improved research competence. Abstract:
Research has become an integral part of learning. Thus, students’ capabilities of doing research need to be strengthened. The study aimed to determine the difficulties of students at Sorsogon State College, Philippines-School of Graduate Students which may serve as a basis for an intervention program. Respondents in this study are the 93 students who have taken Research Methodology subject at SSC School of Graduate Studies. It utilized the descriptive-developmental research design. Data gathering was primarily done through survey questionnaire and supplemented with unstructured interview and focus group discussion. Descriptive statistics was utilized to summarize the data. Results showed that the respondents encountered much difficulty in conceptualizing a research problem/ title, looking for and reviewing related literature and studies, determining the correct research methodology and procedures to be used, determining the appropriate statistical tools, gathering the data, and analyzing and interpreting the data. Among the factors identified which hinder them from doing research are heavy teaching loads, lack of motivation and commitment, and financial constraints. There are interventions that are proposed to enhance the students’ capabilities in conducting quality researches.

Abstract:
The potential of a state university for entrepreneurial university transformation is determined in this study by using the mixed method, specifically the concurrent triangulation design. Strengths, weaknesses, challenges and issues are highlighted based on the guiding framework for entrepreneurial universities by the European Commission – Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (EC-OECD). Middle level managers of the institution served as participants providing data through survey instrument and interviews. Results revealed that generally the university is Going Entrepreneurial, particularly in leadership and governance; organizational capacity, people and incentives; entrepreneurship development in teaching and learning; and pathways for entrepreneurs. It is Almost Entrepreneurial in its business/external relationships for knowledge exchange, and as an internationalized institution; and only in measuring the impact of entrepreneurial university that it is described as Initially Going Entrepreneurial. Challenges and issues identified that may affect the internal system consist political leadership openness to support development plans and projects; presence of internationally-popular eco-tourism, farm tourism, cultural and heritage tourism potentials; booming business atmosphere in the province and the region; availability of local and international scholarships and fellowships for staff and students; presence of commercial banks offering loan credits; and presence of private colleges and learning centers. Recommendations for internal policy consideration include the revisit and inclusion in the strategic plan of an entrepreneurial agenda; appropriation of budget to support the entrepreneurial projects or start-ups by the faculty, staff and students; and exploration of functional engagements and linkages with external (local and international) stakeholders and willing business partners, experts and entities who could help put up or invest on incubators, science parks and the like.
