Two types of mesoporous Si-MCM-41 materials were synthesized via a cationic surfactant template method using different Si-precursors. The materials obtained were characterized by FTIR, XRD, BET, TEM and 29Si MAS-NMR techniques. When fumed silica was used as Si precursor, a Si-MCM-41-I solid with wormhole-like pore topologies was obtained. However, when tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) was used as Si precursor, a mesoporous Si-MCM-41-II solid with hexagonal arranges and a long-range ordered structure could be obtained. These two kinds of mesoporous materials had a uniform pore size distribution with an average pore diameter within 2.3-2.8 nm. Rather weak Lewis acid sites were formed on both the Si-MCM-41 samples prepared by the two methods.

By constructing a bounded absorbing set with higher global regularity (rather than the long-standing partial regularity) and by using the weak quasi-stability estimates (rather than the strong ones as usual), we establish the existence of an exponential attractor in the natural energy space.

The topographical morphology of the loess landform on the Loess Plateau exhibits remarkable textural features at different spatial scales. However, existing topographic texture analysis studies on the Loess Plateau are usually dominated by statistical characteristics and are missing structural characteristics. At the same time, there is a lack of regularity calculation methods for DEM digital terrain analysis. Taking the Loess Plateau as the study area, a regularity calculation method based on the improved normalized distance matching function (INDMF) is proposed and applied to the classification of a loess landform. The regularity calculation method used in this study (INDMF regularity) mainly includes two key steps. Step 1 calculates the INDMF sequence value and the peak and valley values for the terrain data. Step 2 calculates the significant peak and valley, constructs the significant peak and valley sequences, and then obtains the regularity using the normalised ratio value. The experimental results show that the proposed method has good anti-interference ability and can effectively extract the regularity of the main landform unit. Compared with previous methods, adding structural features (i.e., INDMF regularity) can effectively distinguish loess hill and loess ridge in the hilly and gully region. For the loess hill and loess ridge, the recognition rates of the proposed method are 84.62% and 92.86%, respectively. Combined with the existing topographic characteristics, the proposed INDMF regularity is a topographic structure feature extraction method that can effectively discriminate between loess hill and loess ridge areas on the Loess Plateau.

Antifreeze Proteins (AFPs) modify the growth rates and orientations of ice crystal facets through attainment of the best structural match. The insect-type AFPs have ice binding surfaces (IBS) with regularly spaced binding intervals in two directions that engage the primary ice surfaces and reduce their growth rates preferentially. The primary ice surfaces are kinetically stable and have fixed orientations, since they are strongly bonded in two directions. The fish-type AFPs have one-dimensional helical and irregular globular IBSs that are either linearly extended with regular ice binding intervals, or have ice binding sites lacking spacing regularity. They adjust the orientations of the secondary ice surfaces, that have indeterminate face indices since they are strongly bonded in only one direction. The fish-type AFPs stabilize secondary ice surfaces and adjust their orientations by mimicking strong bonding directions, that are not present in the ice structure. The theory agrees with experimental observation and explains hitherto unexplained phenomena. The observed broad variation in prismatic and, more importantly, pyramidal ice crystallites produced in the presence of fish-type AFPs is explained, since these faces are secondary. The observed crystals triggered by most insect-type AFPs are disk shaped, because they consist of primary ice surfaces. The allegedly exceptional ice pyramids triggered by the insect-type TmAFP are the primary ice pyramid with fixed indices, and entirely different from the pyramids of the fish-type AFPs.

This paper proposes a coevolutionary scenario on the origins of compositionality and word order regularity in human language, and illustrates it using a multi-agent, behavioral model. The model traces a ‘bottom-up’ process of syntactic development; artificial agents, by iterating local orders among lexical items, gradually build up basic constituent word order(s) in sentences. These results show that structural features of language (e.g. syntactic categories and word orders) could have coevolved with lexical items, as a consequence of general learning mechanisms (e.g. pattern extraction and sequential learning) initially not language-specific. Four samples of TiO2 ultrafine particles (UFP) were obtained through different processes. The structure of TiO2 ultrafine particles and the factors influencing the structure were investigated with Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Both Raman spectra and x-ray diffractograms show the similar regularity of the phase transformation among the four samples. The observed bimodal lineshape-structure in the Raman spectra is attributed to the intragrain and grain-boundary components of TiO2 UFP. The crystal structure of TiO2 UFP is found to be distorted by the surface structure such as OH and OCH2CH3 groups coordinated on the surface of TiO2 UFP.

Structural-statistical characteristics of the coding DNA sequences (CDSs) from human genome are investigated in the frame of spectral-statistical approach (the 2S-approach). Properties of 3-regularity and latent profile periodicity are among of such the characteristics. Special meaning and intrinsic existence of these properties are confirmed by researching the binary recoded CDSs. The only one kind of singular recoding, that identifies complementary nucleotides, serves to persistence of the original CDSs characteristics. Usage of nonsingular binary recoding proves a statement that latent triplet periodicity in the CDSs of human genome belongs to earlier unknown type called as profile periodicity.

Abstract There is an emerging challenge within water resources on how, and to what extent, borrowing concepts from landscape ecology might help re-define traditional concepts in hydrology in a more tangible manner. A stepwise regression model was adopted in this study to assess whether the time of concentration of catchments could be explained by five landscape structure-representing metrics for land use/land cover, soil and geological patches, using spatial data from 39 catchments. The models suggested that the times of concentration of the catchments could be predicted using the measures of four landscape structure-representing metrics, which include contiguity index (r2 = 0.46, p ≤0.05), fractal dimension index (r2 = 0.51, p ≤0.05), related circumscribing circle (r2 = 0.52, p ≤0.05), and shape index (r2 = 0.47, p ≤0.05). The models indicated that the regularity or irregularity in land use/land cover patch shape played a key role in affecting catchment hydrological response. Our findings revealed that regularity and irregularity in the shape of a given patch (e.g., urban and semi-urban, rangeland and agricultural patches) can affect patch functions in retarding and/or increasing flow accumulation at the catchment scale, which can, in turn, decrease or increase the times of concentration in the catchments.

Abstract:
In this paper, the regularity and stability of the semigroup associated with a system of coupled plate equations is considered. Indirect structural or Kelvin-Voigt damping is imposed, i.e., only one equation is directly damped by one of these two damping. By the frequency domain method, we show that the associated semigroup of the system with indirect structural damping is analytic and exponentially stable. However, with the much stronger indirect Kelvin-Voigt damping, we prove that, by the asymptotic spectral analysis, the semigroup is even not differentiable. The exponential stability is still maintained. Finally, some numerical simulations of eigenvalues of the corresponding one-dimensional systems are also given.

Abstract A closed four-dimensional manifold cannot possess a non-flat Ricci soliton metric with arbitrarily small $L^{2}$-norm of the curvature. In this paper, we localize this fact in the case of gradient shrinking Ricci solitons by proving an $\varepsilon $-regularity theorem, thus confirming a conjecture of Cheeger–Tian [20]. As applications, we will also derive structural results concerning the degeneration of the metrics on a family of complete non-compact four-dimensional gradient shrinking Ricci solitons without a uniform entropy lower bound. In the appendix, we provide a detailed account of the equivariant good chopping theorem when collapsing with locally bounded curvature happens.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images are corrupted by multiplicative speckle noise, which is due to random interference of electromagnetic waves. The noise degrades the quality of images and makes them hard to be interpreted, analyzed and classified. It appears sensible to reduce speckle in SAR images, while the structural features and textural information are not lost. This paper applies the framework of multifractal and regularity analysis to SAR image enhancement and denoising. The method does not make explicit assumptions about the model of the noise, but rather supposes that image denoising is equivalent to increasing the Hölder exponent at each point. The image is characterized via its multifractal spectrum, which mode yields the most frequent Hölder exponent. This manipulation leads to a smooth image while preserving the useful information in the signal. In order to evaluate the restoration result, Equivalent Number of Look (ENL) and edge save index (ESI) are used as criterion. Better result is obtained when regularity increase equal 0.5 (δ=0.5).

A translation in an algebraic signature is a finite conjunction of equations in one variable. On a quasivariety K, a translation τ naturally induces a deductive system, called the τ-assertional logic of K. Two quasivarieties are τ-assertionally equivalent if they have the same τ-assertional logic. This paper is a study of assertional equivalence. It characterizes the quasivarieties equivalent to ones with various desirable properties, such as τ-regularity (a general form of point regularity). Special attention is paid to structural properties of quasivarieties that are assertionally equivalent to their varietal closures under an indicated translation.
