Abstract:
The relative depletion of high field strength elements (HFSE), such as Nb, Ta and Ti, on normalised trace-element plots is a geochemical proxy routinely used to fingerprint magmatic processes linked to Phanerozoic subduction. This proxy has increasingly been applied to ultramafic-mafic units in Archaean cratons, but as these assemblages have commonly been affected by high-grade metamorphism and hydrothermal alteration/metasomatism, the likelihood of element mobility is high relative to Phanerozoic examples. To assess the validity of HFSE anomalies as a reliable proxy for Archaean subduction, we here investigate their origin in ultramafic rocks from the Ben Strome Complex, which is a 7 km2 ultramafic-mafic complex in the Lewisian Gneiss Complex of NW Scotland. Recently interpreted as a deformed layered intrusion, the Ben Strome Complex has been subject to multiple phases of high-grade metamorphism, including separate granulite- and amphibolite-facies deformation events. Additional to bulk-rock geochemistry, we present detailed petrography, and major- and trace-element mineral chemistry for 35 ultramafic samples, of which 15 display negative HFSE anomalies. Our data indicate that the magnitude of HFSE anomalies in the Ben Strome Complex are correlated with light rare earth-element (LREE) enrichment likely generated during interaction with H2O and CO2-rich hydrothermal fluids associated with amphibolitisation, rather than primary magmatic (subduction-related) processes. Consequently, we consider bulk-rock HFSE anomalies alone to be an unreliable proxy for Archaean subduction in Archaean terranes that have experienced multiple phases of high-grade metamorphism, with a comprehensive assessment of element mobility and petrography a minimum requirement prior to assigning geodynamic interpretations to bulk-rock geochemical data.

Retrospektyvioji VUL Santariškių klinikų Pilvo chirurgijos centro pacientų, sirgusių GIST, ligos istorijų analizė. Rezultatai Virškinimo trakto stromos navikai – tai dažniausi neepiteliniai mezenchiminės kilmės virškinimo trakto navikai, sudarantys 1–3% visų diagnozuojamų piktybinių virškinimo trakto navikų. Literatūros duomenimis, diagnozuojamų GIST atvejų daugėja. Standartinis GIST diagnostikos metodas – kontrastinė KT. Iki imatinibo eros vienintelis gydymo būdas buvo operacinis. Tačiau vėlyvieji rezultatai net ir po radikalaus operacinio gydymo nebuvo džiuginantys, nes 90% GIST pasižymi polinkiu recidyvuoti. Imatinibo, veikiančio patogeneziškai molekuliniame lygmenyje, atradimas suteikė daug vilčių. Siekiant visiškos remisijos, taikomas kompleksinis gydymas: radikalus naviko šalinimas, derinamas su chemoterapija. Chemoterapija imatinibu kol kas dar tik eksperimentinio lygmens, nėra apibrėžtų tikslių indikacijų, gydymo trukmės, problemiška vertinti gydymo efektyvumą. Todėl išlieka gydymo taktikos neaiškumų: ar neoadjuvantinė terapija, ar adjuvantinė, chirurginių veiksmų panaudojimo galimybės, esant nevienodam ar daliniam atsakui į gydymą imatinibu ir lokalių metastazių atvejais. Atlikta retrospektyvioji 2001–2005 metais VUL Santariškių klinikų Pilvo chirurgijos centre gydytų ligonių analizė. Šiuo laikotarpiu gydyti 33 pacientai; visi jie buvo operuoti. Dažniausia GIST lokalizacija yra skrandis – 18 (55%) pacientų, ir plonoji žarna – 12 (36%). Klinikoje vyravo kraujavimo iš virškinimo trakto simptomai – 11 (33%) atvejų; besimptomiai buvo 9 (27%) atvejai. Keturi (12%) pacientai operuoti skubos tvarka dėl didelio kraujavimo iš virškinimo trakto. Pagrindinė operacija tiek skrandžio, tiek plonosios žarnos GIST atvejais – radikalus naviko šalinimas apimant ir sveikus audinius. Skrandžio GIST iki 5 cm skersmens šalinami laparoskopu. VUL Santariškių klinikose atliktos trys tokios operacijos. Išvada GIST – dažniausias neepitelinės kilmės piktybinis virškinimo trakto navikas, kurį sunku diagnozuoti dėl lokalizacijos ir klinikos įvairovės, be to, daugelis GIST yra besimptomiai. Visi GIST gali supiktybėti ir metastazuoti, todėl rekomenduojama operaciniu būdu šalinti net ir mažus navikus. Second, to analyse retrospectively the experience of patients with GIST treated at Vilnius University Hospital "Santariškių klinikos". Methods The current issues of 2002–2006 on gastrointestinal stromal tumours in the Lithuanian and English languages have been reviewed. A retrospective study of patients with GIST at the Center of Abdominal Surgery of Vilnius University Hospital "Santariškių Klinikos" was done. Results Gastrointestinal stromal tumours, being the most common nonepithelial mesenchymal tumours of gastrointestinal tract, account for only 1–3% of all gastrointestinal tract malignancies. According to the literature data, the tendency of GIST cases is increasing. Their clinical manifestation varies a lot, besides, there are up to 77% of asymptomatic cases, uncertain localization, all making the diagnosis difficult. Contrast-enhanced CT scan is a standard imaging for patients with suspected GIST. Until the era of Imatinib, surgery had been the only effective treatment. But even after apparently "curative" surgical resections the long-term results were poor, because up to 90% of cases GIST relapse. The liver is the most common site of recurrence (up to 70%). The discovery of Imatinib acting as a molecular target drug is hopeful. However, Imatinib chemotherapy is still at the experimental level, there are no exactly defined indications, duration of treatment, there are difficulties in evaluating tumour response to treatment. So there are unresolved questions in the management of GIST, such as neo-adjuvant or adjuvant therapy, the role of surgery in patients with differential or partial response to Imatinib, and the role of surgery in patients with isolated metastases. Between January 2001 and December 2005, 33 patients underwent surgical treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumour at the Center of Abdominal Surgery of Vilnius University Hospital "Santariškių klinikos". The main localization of tumour was stomach (18, or 55% of all cases) and small bowel (12, 36%). The most common clinical features were symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding (11, 33%); 9 (27%) cases were asymptomatic; 4(12%) patients underwent emergency surgery because of massive gastrointestinal bleeding. The main operation was wedge resection with clear margins for GIST of the stomach and the small bowel resection for small bowel GIST. In our opinion, tumours of the stomach up to 5 cm could be operated on by laparoscopic approach; there were three such operations at our center. Conclusions GIST is the most common mesenchymal malignant tumour of the gastrointestinal tract; its diagnosis is difficult because of the variety of clinical symptoms and uncertain localization; besides, many GIST are asymptomatic. We recommend surgery even for small tumours because of possible malignancy. GIST diagnosis and treatment are specific; so patients with suspected GIST should be concentrated at big medical centers. Seasonal variations of the polarization diversity gain are addressed for a nomadic user in a vegetated area taking high elevation angles and nongeostationary satellites into consideration. Corresponding experimental data were obtained at a frequency of 2.0 GHz at Stromovka Park in Prague, the Czech Republic, within the full in-leaf and out-of-leaf periods of 2013 and 2014, respectively. By detecting copolarized and cross-polarized components of the transmitted left- and right-handed circularly polarized signals, the corresponding diversity gain was obtained for multiple-input single-output (MISO), single-input multiple-output (SIMO), and combined MISO/SIMO cases. It was found that tree defoliation results in a significant decrease of the polarization diversity gain achieved for low time percentages in particular scenarios.

Abstract:
Fibrocytes (FCs) are hematopoietic lineage cells that migrate to sites of injury, transition to a mesenchymal phenotype, and help to mediate wound repair. Despite their relevance to human fibrotic disorders, there are few data characterizing basic FC biology. Herein, using proteomic, bioenergetic, and bioengineering techniques, we conducted deep phenotypic characterization of differentiating and mature FCs. Differentiation was associated with metabolic reprogramming that favored oxidative phosphorylation. Mature FCs had distinct proteomes compared to classic mesenchymal cells, formed functional stromae that supported epithelial maturation during in vitro organotypic culture, and exhibited in vivo survival and self-tolerance as connective tissue isografts. In an in vitro scratch assay, FCs promoted fibroblast migration and wound closure by paracrine signaling via the chemokine CXCL8 (interleukin-8). These findings characterize important aspects of FC differentiation and show that, in addition to their role in wound healing, FCs hold potential as an easily isolated autologous cell source for regenerative medicine.

Abstract:
Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-Cov-2) is an infectious virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmitted mainly through droplets and aerosol affecting the respiratory tract and lungs. Little is known regarding why some individuals are more susceptible than others and develop severe symptoms. In this study, we analyzed the nasopharyngeal microbiota profile of aged patients with COVID-19 (asymptomatic vs. symptomatic) vs. healthy individuals. We examined the nasopharynx swab of 84 aged-matched patients, out of which 27 were negative asymptomatic (NegA), 30 were positive asymptomatic (PA), and 27 patients were positive symptomatic (PSY). Our analysis revealed the presence of abundant Cyanobacterial taxa at phylum level in PA (p-value = 0.0016) and PSY (p-value = 0.00038) patients along with an upward trend in the population of Litoricola, Amylibacter, Balneola, and Aeromonas at the genus level. Furthermore, to know the relationship between the nasal microbiota composition and severity of COVID-19, we compared PA and PSY groups. Our data show that the nasal microbiota of PSY patients was significantly enriched with the signatures of two bacterial taxa: Cutibacterium (p-value = 0.045) and Lentimonas (p-value = 0.007). Furthermore, we also found a significantly lower abundance of five bacterial taxa, namely: Prevotellaceae (p-value = 7 × 10−6), Luminiphilus (p-value = 0.027), Flectobacillus (p-value = 0.027), Comamonas (p-value = 0.048), and Jannaschia (p-value = 0.012) in PSY patients. The dysbiosis of the nasal microbiota in COVID-19 positive patients might have a role in contributing to the severity of COVID-19. The findings of our study show that there is a strong correlation between the composition of the nasal microbiota and COVID-19 severity. Further studies are needed to validate our finding in large-scale samples and to correlate immune response (cytokine Strome) and nasal microbiota to identify underlying mechanisms and develop therapeutic strategies against COVID-19.

ISAGENis a tool for the automatic generation of structurally complex test inputs that imitate real communication in the context of modern information systems . Complex, typically tree-structured data currently represents the standard means of transmitting information between nodes in distributed information systems. Automatic generator ISAGENis founded on the methodology of data-driven testing and uses concrete data from the production environment as the primary characteristic and specification that guides the generation of new similar data for test cases satisfying given combinatorial adequacy criteria. The main contribution of this thesis is a comprehensive proposal of automated data generation techniques together with an implementation, which demonstrates their usage. The created solution enables testers to create more relevant testing data, representing production-like communication in information systems.

We focus on space-efficient, namely succinct, representations of static ordinal unlabeled trees. These structures have space complexity which is optimal up to a lower-order term, yet they support a reasonable set of operations in constant time. This topic has been studied in the last 27 years by numerous authors who came with several distinct solutions to this problem. It is not only of an academic interest, the succinct tree data structures has been used in several data-intensive applications, such as XML processing and representation of suffix trees. In this thesis, we describe the current state of knowledge in this area, compare the many different approaches, and propose several either new or alternative algorithms for operations in the representations alongside.
