Full textPurpose: The purpose of this study is to see how ethical currents affect fashion companies' decisions to widen their size range and implement bigger sizes. The research questions are 1. For what reasons do Swedish fashion companies decide to widen their size range with bigger sizes? and 2. What influence does social media and ethical currents have on legitimacy based business decisions? Theoretical foundation: This study uses theoretical background on social media, the body positivity movement and consequences of negative publicity. The study is also based on important concepts taken from the institutional theory; legitimacy, decoupling and mimetic isomorphism. Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on a qualitative research method involving two Swedish fashion companies. The employees who were interviewed all have roles that are either involved in the decision to widen the size range or have been affected by it. Findings: The results of the study shows that the body positivity movement has had an impact on the companies' of this study’s decision to widen their size range. Other reasons found were to avoid negative publicity and create legitimacy.

Full textHamnefjärden is a sea area outside of Oskarshamn nuclear powerplant which has an increased temperature compared to what was natural before the powerplant was started. Ever since the cooling water from the powerplant has been affecting the ecology with constant plumes of inflow with heated water. This discharge has thus been investigated by compiling literature about the physical and biological effects on Hamnefjärden. Surveys, in which Hamnefjärden has been compared to a reference area, shows that the local ecology has been affected by the heated water somewhat. Large differences in temperature in the estuary of the coolingwater indicates large physical effects but the biological effects seem smaller.

Full textSyftet med studien är att visa hur kemiämnet presenteras i gymnasieskolans läroböcker i kemi med regelbundna nedslag över en 40-årig tidsperiod och hur de knyter an till rådande läroplaner, utbildningspolitik samt miljö- och säkerhetsfrågor i undervisningen. Studien bygger på en innehållsanalys av gymnasieläroböcker i kemi, och som fördjupas med erfarna lärares berättelser om undervisningspraktikens förändring över tid. Jag kopplar ihop fyra utbildningsfilosofier och undervisningstradition med läromedelsanalysen. Analysen visar att läromedlen från 1969, 1979 och 1989 är relativt lika med avseende på vilken bild som ges av kemiämnet. Från dessa årtionden ges bilden av att kemiämnet hör hemma i kemisalen. Läromedlen från 1999 och 2007 är mer lika varandra angående hur kemiämnet presenteras, det vill säga kemin är nu till för eleven och dennes vardagsliv. I min diskussion tar jag upp hur det kommer sig att intresse för kemi är svagt, trots att kemiämnet numera är mer lättillgängligt och knutet till det vardagsnära.

Full textThis thesis has examined which wireless technology that is best suited for use when an audio signal are to be streamed wirelessly to multiple recipients. The technologies that where compared was Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Other wireless communication technologies, ZigBee, ANT+ and NFC, were excluded because their maximum data rate or range wasn’t sufficient enough. Since it’s required a license to be allowed to use 3G and 4G, these were excluded as well. As receivers, primarily Android and iOS phones would be used. Furthermore, it has been examined which components that are required for manufacturing a prototype that will be able to stream an audio signal wireless to multiple smartphone’s. Lastly, a circuit diagram for this prototype has been made. Wi-Fi WLAN infrastructure was considered to be best suited for this application. The prototype that would stream an audio signal therefore needed to function as a Wi-Fi access point. AR9271, a Wi-Fi chip from Qualcomm Atheros, was selected to be used as Wi-Fi transmitter because it has an open-source firmware and were easier to come by compared to other similar Wi-Fi chip. To be able to use the Linux-based open-source firmware of the Wi-Fi chip, SAM9M10 MCU from Atmel was selected as control unit since it can be used with Linux Embedded. In order to digitize the analog audio signal, VS1063 MP3 encoder from VLSI Solution was selected.

Full textThe purpose of this essay is to explain the functionality behind the Google Cast technology and give insight into the different components that a media application in an Android environment with Google Cast support requires. Google Cast technology allows media consumers to remotely play arbitrary media against a so-called Chromecast receiver, from a different device, which can be a phone, computer, or surf pad. The company BookBeat assigned the project, whose customers have been asking for Google Cast support in the companies Android application for a while. The goal of the project was to develop a radio application in an Android environment with Google Cast support. The purpose of the goal was to gain insight into how the concept worked and to develop an example application that BookBeat would be able to use as a reference in their future implementation of Google Cast. The goal was achieved, and the hope is that this example will be of use for BookBeat.

Full textA mine can cause a major impact on the surrounding environment, including a drawdown of the groundwater table caused by dewatering of the mine. In order to start a mine in Sweden, permission must be obtained. This requires an environmental impact assessment, including an investigation of how the mine will affect surrounding groundwater. The aim of this project was to investigate the impact of a theoretical deep vertical mine shaft on ground water in the surrounding rock. In this study the mine was assumed to be surrounded by fractured rock. Fractured rock has very heterogeneous hydraulic properties, which makes the calculations of groundwater flow complex. The drawdown of the groundwater table was calculated both with analytical and numerical methods. The numerical calculations were made with a finite difference method in the program GEOAN. The rock was described as a continuum and the flow was calculated in three dimensions. Evaluation was made of how different parameters affected the size of the drawdown area around the shaft and the inflow to the shaft. The analyzed parameters included: size of the model domain, cell size, potential groundwater recharge, hydraulic conductivity, topography and the design of the shaft. In addition to different magnitude of the conductivity, investigation was done of how anisotropy, depth dependency and heterogeneity affected the results. When conductivity was described as heterogeneous it was modeled as a stochastic continuum. The analytical methods used calculated two-dimensional ground water flow in a homogeneous aquifer. The evaluation of the analytical methods showed that the used methods required so many simplifications and assumptions, that they were only able to give a rough estimate of an area of influence. From the evaluation of the modeling with the numerical method the following conclusions, among others, were drawn: (i) hydraulic conductivity and potential recharge have a major impact on the drawdown area and the inflow to the shaft, (ii) a heterogeneous conductivity field enlarges the drawdown area but decreases inflow to the shaft compared with a homogeneous conductivity field with the same effective conductivity and (iii) a horizontal tunnel connected to the shaft at great depth does not affect drawdown of the groundwater table when conductivity decreases with depth. Evaluation of the groundwater recharge showed that a large part of the water flowing in to the shaft came from areas outside the drawdown area. To know how well the numerical method works in a real case the results would need to be compared with measured values of inflow to a shaft and drawdown of the groundwater table around it.

Full textA new theory for predicting the windprofile over a canopy has been evaluated. The theory was first presented by Harman and Finnigan (2007). The theory relies on the forming of a mixing-layer above the canopy, due to different mean wind in and above the canopy. Characteristics from both mixing-layer and Monin Obukhov similarity theory have been used to develop the governingequations that give the wind profile. The theory has been used to calculate wind profiles for sixdifferent atmospheric stabilities. In order to evaluate the theory, profiles from the theory have beencompared to measurements from Jädraås forest, Sweden. Profiles from Monin Obukhov similarity theory were also used for comparison.In general the mixing-layer theory gives better results than Monin Obukhov similarity theory. Agreement with measurements is good in neutral conditions, but fails when the atmospheric stability is altered, especially in convective conditions. This is believed to be due to the canopy lacking in thickness. The mean wind speed is systematically underestimated and this is also believed to be caused by insufficient thickness of the canopy. A correction for this behaviour is proposed. The theory gives higher values of the mean wind speed in convective conditions with the correction and the calculated values of mean wind speed are closer to the measurements.

Full textThis study has been done to find out the importance of owning an expensive speaker system when listening to streamed music, and how influenced we are by knowing the price of the represented speaker. Three different speakers in three different price ranges have been tested. 22 people attended and had the opportunity to listen to any song through the streaming service Spotify. Listeners were first asked to estimate the overall sound quality of the speakers without being able to see them. The following test was equally executed but with the opportunity to see the loudspeakers and information on the retail price. It turned out that knowing the price or appearance had no impact on the listener. Neither the source of the music that was played, Spotify or CD turned out to be relevant. It has also shown that there was a poor connection between price and quality since the cheapest speaker was ranked among the best in this test. This has led to a discussion of the importance of the loudspeaker’s character. The character which could give the listener a good or bad experience of the perceived sound quality depending on the listeners own preferences. The frequency character can dominate the speakers many other qualities. A less expensive speaker can be preferred over a more expensive if the frequency characteristics of the more expensive speaker matches the listeners opinion.
