Abstract:
This study investigates the impact of market timing strategies on the leverage of non-financial companies. Market timing involves making financial decisions based on expectations of future market movements. Using a sample of non-financial firms, we examine how companies strategically time their debt issuance and repayment activities in response to market conditions. Our analysis considers factors such as interest rate fluctuations, market volatility, and economic cycles. We employ quantitative methods to assess the effectiveness of different market timing strategies in influencing firms' leverage levels. The findings shed light on the dynamics between market conditions and corporate leverage decisions, providing valuable insights for financial managers, investors, and policymakers.

Abstract:
Tourism pricing strategies are vital for businesses in the travel and hospitality sector to maximize revenue, attract and retain customers, and stay competitive. These strategies range from value-based pricing, which relies on the perceived value to the customer, to dynamic pricing, adjusting costs in real-time based on market demand. Other approaches include discount pricing for off-peak periods, package deals offering combined services, psychological pricing to make costs seem more attractive, penetrationpricing to quickly gain market share, premium pricing for exclusive experiences, seasonal adjustments, cost-plus pricing to cover expenses and ensure profit, and geographical pricing to account for regional economic differences. Each strategy has its unique implications and is chosen based on the business’s goals, market conditions, and customer preferences.

Abstract:
We examine the use of stationary and Markov strategies in zero-sum stochastic games with finite state and action spaces. It is natural to evaluate a strategy for the maximising player, player 1, by the highest reward guaranteed to him against any strategy of the opponent. The highest rewards guaranteed by stationary strategies or by Markov strategies are called the stationary utility or the Markov utility, respectively. Since all stationary strategies are Markov strategies, the Markov utility is always larger or equal to the stationary utility. However, in all presently known subclasses of stochastic games, these utilities turn out to be equal. In this paper, we provide a colourful example in which the Markov utility is strictly larger than the stationary utility and we present several conditions under which the utilities are equal. We also show that each stochastic game has at least one initial state for which the two utilities are equal. Several examples clarify these issues.

The paper provides some of the interim results of the Fifth Framework PRISMA project dealing with the of impact ICT on government and citizen services in Europe. The analysis and the concept description of long-term strategies for eGovernment and a long-term vision over 10 years for eGovernment are described. Activities performed by the government are analysed from the demand (“front office”) and supply (“back office”) point of view. Recommendations for long-term strategic decisions are based on three scenarios of the future European development till 2010: (1) “Prosperous and just Europe”, (2) “Turbulent world”, (3) “Recession and reorientation”.

Abstract:
The article aims at the description and assessment of strategic options for companies which have necessary resources to take the advantage of the current economic downturn. The theoretical framework is based on two predominant approaches to competitive advantage and the practical implications for actions to be adopted are derived from the recommendations published recently by the leading consulting firms. While quick fixes ensuring a short-term survival (mostly financially based cost-saving measures) are an essential first step, a longer-term success lies in the effective adoption of the scenario-planning techniques, active competitors intelligence and a proactive attitude to restructuring through a combination of mergers, acquisitions and divestment decisions.

Abstract:
Japanese encephalitis (JE) is still one of the most dangerous mosquito-transmitted infections in the world, and there is no cure or set of rules for treating it. The clinical signs and progression of the infection are influenced by the pathogenicity of both the viral determinants and the host immune responses. JE can affect both fine and gross motor skills, making it difficult to perform tasks including walking, gripping, and coordinating actions. In the absence of antiviral treatment, vaccination is the only way to produce long-lasting protection against JEV infection. The disease still lacks a cure or treatment recommendations. Various global institutes such as WHO, Gavi, UNICEF etc support the JE elimination strategies along with governments of various nations. Improvements and developments were being made in the fields of Japanese encephalitis (JE) research, prevention, and treatment

Abstract:
Language is a special activity, and it’s through/via/with language that we develop intelligence, knowledge, and culture. Language is what makes us human beings. Language and its meanings allow for interactions among members of the society to partake in the same culture. People are more than legal citizens: the sense of belonging creates identity, in a process mediated by language. Deaf people have little to no access to the oral language; thus, they have difficulties to share in the national literature, media, popular culture, traditions, myths, folklore, among others. In order to build this identity, the Deaf1 need to learn the written modality of the Oral language from the culture in which they are immersed. Unfortunately, very few research and resources are dedicated to such task. This research proposes a Learning Object that uses Sign Language (the natural language of the Deaf) to teach text cohesion.

Abstract:
The term ‘cognitive strategies’ is problematic and needs clarification. Although it has been used in various studies in psychology and education, there is little agreement as to what is meant by ‘cognitive strategy.’ There is no clear-cut differentiation in the literature between ‘cognitive strategies,’ ‘metacognition,’ ‘skills,’ ‘schemas,’ ‘tasks,’ and other related concepts. Some researchers assume that people know and are aware or conscious of what strategies they are using, while others emphasize involuntary and unconscious aspects of strategies. In this article, paradigms which are involved in studies of cognitive strategies are considered. Because use of this concept is problematic and vague, the study of cognition is less focused than is desirable, and important problems in the field are overlooked.

Abstract:
AbstractWe consider combinatorial principles based on playing several two person games simultaneously. We call strategies for playing two or more games simultaneously parallel. The principles are easy consequences of the determinacy of games, in particular they are true for all finite games. We shall show that the principles fail for infinite games. The statements of these principles are of lower logical complexity than the sentence expressing the determinacy of games, therefore, they can be studied in weak axiomatic systems for arithmetic (Bounded Arithmetic). We pose several open problems about the provability of these statements in Bounded Arithmetic and related computational problems.
