E864 was designed as a high sensitivity search for strange quark matter produced in heavy ion collisions at the AGS accelerator at Brookhaven National Laboratory. In this thesis, we analyze data taken at the -0.75T field setting of the experiment, which is optimal for finding negatively charged strangelet candidates, from Au + Pt collisions at 11.6 GeV/c per nucleon. A measurement of the antiproton invariant multiplicities is made and is in reasonable agreement with previous E864 antiproton measurements. No conclusive strangelet candidates are found, and upper limits are set on the production of charge -1 and charge -2 strangelets of approximately 1 x 10- 8 and 4 x 10- 9 per 10% central collision respectively. These represent world's best limits to date.

Full textQuark–gluon plasma is a state of matter existing under extreme energy densities and temperatures where quarks and gluons are deconfined. This hot and dense strongly interacting matter can be created in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Measurements of spectra of identified particles produced in jets represent a major tool for studying properties of the plasma created in the collisions and for understanding the interplay of various mechanisms which contribute to the particle production in this medium. In this thesis, we present the measurement of the transverse-momentum spectra of Λ baryons and K0S mesons produced in charged jets in central Pb–Pb collisions at the centre-of-mass energy sqrt(sNN) = 2.76 TeV, measured with ALICE at the LHC. The results of the analysis are used to discuss the origin of the enhancement of the baryon-to-meson ratio observed for the inclusive production of light-flavour particles in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) is the fundamental theory for the strong interaction in high energy physics, and lattice QCD (formulating QCD on a discrete space-time lattice) is the most viable way to solve QCD nonperturbatively from the first principles. In this thesis, we perform an exploratory study of the mass spectrum of mesons and baryons in lattice QCD with $N_f = 2 $ optimal domain-wall quarks. Even though the pion mass of these gauge ensembles are unphysical, about 300 MeV, the mass spectrum of the mesons and baryons containing charm and strange quarks seem to be in good agreement with the high energy experimental values.

【Abstract】 The neutron star or strange quark star can be described by the differential equations including the mass equation, the hydrostatic equilibrium equation (TOV), and the equation of state (EOS). In this thesis, we try to describe the rotation of stars and to obtain the structure of a neutron star or strange quark star with the modified differential equations. Through the numerical analysis we compare the different Chandrasekhar limits between dense stars with rotations and without. Our major findings include: (1)The maximum stellar mass (Chandrasekhar limit) for rotating strange stars with angular velocity W0=5×103 sec-1 is larger than the one without rotation by about 4.63﹪while, for neutron stars, the rate of increase is 4.55﹪. (2)The role played by the differential rotation W1 could in principle be as important as the average rotation W0 if W1~W0.

In this thesis, the ATLAS detector sensitivity for the measurement of the top quark decay t → sW branching ratio is presented. Data collected by the ATLAS detector during the first two years of Run II (2015-2016) from proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with a center-of-mass energy of s = √13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.2 fb−1 , scaled to 150 fb−1 , are analysed. As signal, top-quark pair-decay events are used, where one of the quark decays through the t → sW channel and the other through the main decay of the top quark, t → bW . In the events chosen, both W bosons decay leptonically, with one decaying to an electron and another to a muon, of opposite charges. The branching ratio estimated is BR(t → sW ) = 0.00162 ± 0.00013 (stat) ± 0.00014 (syst). Additionally, the branching ratio of t → bW is estimated to be BR(t → bW ) = 0.9983 ± 0.0060 (stat) ±0.0006 (syst). This result was obtained with a signal significance of 6.0 ± 0.9 (statistical uncertainty only). This leads to the conclusion that a measurement might be possible with the full Run II dataset. . . .. .

Full textIn this thesis, we investigated the strange quark matter (SQM) composed of the spin-up and spin-down; up, down and strange quarks at finite temperature in the presence of the strong magnetic field using the MIT bag model. We computed the total free energy of the spin polarized SQM at finite temperature in the presence of the strong magnetic field. We found that the free energy gets a minimum at a particular value of the spin polarization parameter showing a meta-stable state. The calculation shown that by increasing temperature, the equation of state of spin polarized SQM becomes stiffer. Also, using the general relativistic TOV equation, we studied the structure of the spin polarized strange quark star (SQS). We calculated the maximum mass and corresponding radius of spin polarized SQS at different temperatures and magnetic fields. We shown that the gravitational mass of spin polarized SQS rapidly increases by increasing the central energy density. We also indicated that the mass and the radius of the spin polarized SQS decreases by increasing both temperature and magnetic field.
