Lindqvist, Siri. "GIRLFAGS AND GUYDYKES - Too queer for straights, and too straight for queers." Thesis, Malmö universitet, Fakulteten för hälsa och samhälle (HS), 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:mau:diva-26619.

Full text
Abstract:
Aim. To highlight how girlfags and guydykes describe their identities and their experience and interpretation of the identity labels. Background and previous studies. The sexual minority identity of girlfags and guydykes are sometimes perceived as provocative in their contradictory labels. There is little to no previous research on the identities and what is known is mostly presented on internet blogs and forums. The identities seemingly involve aspects on sexual orientation, gender and sexual practice. Research related to sexual minorities, non-normative sex, LGBT and the risk of ill-health with identifying as a sexual minority is presented. Method. Semi-structured interviews in a method of choice was applied to this study so as to ease contact with a sexual minority group. Participants were sought through a Facebook © forum, with a total of eleven interviews with two guydykes and nine girlfags, through video call (2), phone call (1), in person (1), email (6), email with sound files (1). The data was analysed with content analysis. Results and analysis. The results were extensive and had to be delimited. The results were analysed in a sexual constructionist setting using the concept of the heterosexual matrix (Butler, 1990) and the concepts of gender/sex sexuality and nurturance and eroticism presented in van Anders’ (2015) Sexual Configurations Theory (SCT). Three main categories were presented; A play on gender, Sexuality and Orientation, and Identity. Conclusions. There is pride portrayed in the girlfag and guydykes identities. The identity breaks norms regarding gender and sexuality and even sexual orientation within an LGBT context. The results indicate that further research on transgender issues and relational and social aspects of the identities is needed. Keywords: autoandrophilia, gender identity, genderqueer, girlfag, guydyke, homosexuality, LGBT, non-normative, sexual minorities, lesbian man, queer.

Abstract:
This Master of Fine Arts thesis is divided into four main sections:FAITH and DISBELIEF: In which I reckon with the implications of faith versus rationality as a secular nontheistic artist. IDEAS: The central locus of my work is a place of indeterminacy between what is known/familiar and what is just one step outside of that. This has nothing to do with mysticism, science fiction, or anything else unmoored from established fact. Section also touches on the particular vantage of a female artist with working class roots.THE WORK: Selection of work made during graduate school, and the the guiding thoughts behind each.EMPTINESS, STILLNESS, ABSENCE, GHOSTS, DOUBT: A discussion of influential artists and ideas.

Garnett, Nicholas. "Twisted Straight: A Memoir." FIU Digital Commons, 2011. http://digitalcommons.fiu.edu/etd/400.

Full text
Abstract:
TWISTED STRAIGHT is a 103,000 word memoir, which chronicles the author’s ten-year relationship to the ebullient, witty, but destructive woman he married, and their subsequent immersion in gay culture, specifically the circuit-party scene. TWISTED STRAIGHT is set in the heyday of the gay circuit scene, and the 90s, the decade in which it became hip to be gay. It is a unique perspective on a sub-culture off limits to most heterosexual men. Just as importantly, the story describes a man’s search for himself, for a real connection with his electrifying but emotionally damaged wife, for a break from his past, and for meaning in a life buried deep beneath a lifestyle.

Karlsson, Johan. "Get your priorities straight." Licentiate thesis, Luleå tekniska universitet, EISLAB, 2001. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:ltu:diva-17861.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis deals with three different aspects of queues and buffers. First, how a novel memory architecture can improve a solution to the problem of supporting a priority queue with priorities from a bounded universe. Second, how we can implement a time queue for two different processes which share parts of the data structure under mutual exclusion. Finally, how careful buffer management can be used to support a new forwarding strategy in network routers. The new forwarding strategy aims at better supporting of prioritized data flows with variable bit-rate.

Basey, Adriana L. "Effects of a traditional and modified straight straight leg raise on EMG characteristics." Virtual Press, 1997. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/1048378.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to determine the vastus medialis oblique muscular electromyographical (EMG) activity during two therapeutic exercises: the modified straight leg raise and the traditional straight leg raise. Two subject groups of 10 subjects each, one with anterior knee pain (PHY) and the other group with no history of patellofemoral pathology (NORM), performed the traditional straight leg raise (SLR) and a modified straight leg raise with external hip rotation (MOD). Each subject performed an isometric maximum voluntary contraction and three trials of each of the two therapeutic exercises. The EMG variables analyzed were the percent of the maximum voluntary contraction for each muscle, vastus medialis oblique, vastus lateralis, and rectus femoris: the percent of the maximum voluntary contraction of the ratio between the vastus medialis oblique and the vastus lateralis; the percent of the maximum voluntary contraction for the integrated EMG for each muscle; and the percent of the maximum voluntary contraction for the root mean square for each muscle. The statistical analysis was conducted with two-way analysis of variance procedures. The statistical analysis revealed no significant differences; however, the data appeared to illustrate a trend toward more electromyographical activity in the vastus medialis oblique in the PHY subject group during the MOD therapeutic exercise. This suggests that the MOD therapeutic exercise may be able to isolate the vastus medialis oblique muscle in persons with anterior knee pain and allow them to regain strength and normal function earlier than with the use of the SLR therapeutic exercise.

Full text
Abstract:
Increment cores that dry with a spiral twist are a problem in any study where a clear view of transverse wood anatomy is required. This problem may become acute when working with wood that is partially decomposed. After soaking cores in a urea solution, we can remove spiral twists by applying steam to the cores and gently twisting cores until they straighten. Treatment does not result in a serious distortion of ring widths.

Abstract:
The men interviewed considered straightness as an identity, a way of life, or a community. Identifying as straight meant they could continue relationships with their women partners, children, extended family, friends, and other people in their straight communities, relationships they did not think possible with a gay or bisexual identity. It also meant they could avoid stigma and could feel connected to a socially dominant group. In terms of identity, having sex with men was largely irrelevant. They were not “closeted” gay or bisexual men. They identified as straight. In short, the men interviewed were secretive about their sex with men, not their identities. Embeddedness in heterosexual culture reinforces their straight identity, regardless of the fact that they might have sex with men. Key straight institutions described by the men interviewed included their childhood families of origin; religion; school or youth sports; and the families they formed as adults. Most felt that part of a straight man’s life in a rural area or small town was being a husband or father and found great meaning in this. Not coincidentally, many also perceived partnerships with women or childrearing as central to their straight and masculine identities.
