Abstract:
Abstract. Soil information (e.g., soil texture and porosity) from existing soil datasets over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) is claimed to be inadequate and even inaccurate for determining soil hydraulic properties (SHP) and soil thermal properties (STP), hampering the understanding of the land surface process over TP. As the soil varies across three dominant climate zones (i.e., arid, semi-arid and subhumid) over the TP, the associated SHP and STP are expected to vary correspondingly. To obtain an explicit insight into the soil hydrothermal properties over the TP, in situ and laboratory measurements of over 30 soil property profiles were obtained across the climate zones. Results show that porosity and SHP and STP differ across the climate zones and strongly depend on soil texture. In particular, it is proposed that gravel impact on porosity and SHP and STP are both considered in the arid zone and in deep layers of the semi-arid zone. Parameterization schemes for porosity, SHP and STP are investigated and compared with measurements taken. To determine the SHP, including soil water retention curves (SWRCs) and hydraulic conductivities, the pedotransfer functions (PTFs) developed by Cosby et al. (1984) (for the Clapp–Hornberger model) and the continuous PTFs given by Wösten et al. (1999) (for the Van Genuchten–Mualem model) are recommended. The STP parameterization scheme proposed by Farouki (1981) based on the model of De Vries (1963) performed better across the TP than other schemes. Using the parameterization schemes mentioned above, the uncertainties of five existing regional and global soil datasets and their derived SHP and STP over the TP are quantified through comparison with in situ and laboratory measurements. The measured soil physical properties dataset is available at https://data.4tu.nl/repository/uuid:c712717c-6ac0-47ff-9d58-97f88082ddc0.

Abstract:
The Steiner tree problem (STP) aims to determine some Steiner nodes such that the minimum spanning tree over these Steiner nodes and a given set of special nodes has the minimum weight, which is NP-hard. STP includes several important cases. The Steiner tree problem in graphs (GSTP) is one of them. Many heuristics have been proposed for STP, and some of them have proved to be performance guarantee approximation algorithms for this problem. Since evolutionary algorithms (EAs) are general and popular randomized heuristics, it is significant to investigate the performance of EAs for STP. Several empirical investigations have shown that EAs are efficient for STP. However, up to now, there is no theoretical work on the performance of EAs for STP. In this article, we reveal that the (1+1) EA achieves 3/2-approximation ratio for STP in a special class of quasi-bipartite graphs in expected runtime [Formula: see text], where [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] are, respectively, the number of Steiner nodes, the number of special nodes, and the largest weight among all edges in the input graph. We also show that the (1+1) EA is better than two other heuristics on two GSTP instances, and the (1+1) EA may be inefficient on a constructed GSTP instance.

Abstract:
This research aims at investigating the realization of thematic progression (TP) patterns, which is defined as “the way in which the theme of a clause may pick up, or repeat a meaning from a preceding theme or rheme” (Paltrigde, 2006, p. 148), and their effects on text quality of online IELTS Writing Task 2 samples. Investigated in the light of systemic functional approach, TP is classified into five patterns, namely Simple Linear Progression (SLP), Constant Progression (CP), Split Rheme Progression (SRP), Split Theme Progression (STP) and Derived Hypertheme Progression (DHP) (McCabe, 1999). In this study, the corpus consisting of 24 sample essays derived from an English-learning website was analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of this study highlight that SLP is the most frequently employed pattern in the corpus, followed by CP, SRP, STP and DHP patterns respectively. The analysis also shows that proper employment of TP overall is a contributing factor to the coherence and cohesion of the text, with each pattern exerting different effects. SLP, with its cross-referential links, yields a constantly developing and cohesive text whilst CP keeps a strong thematic focus. Meanwhile, SRP and STP patterns are both found to offer a planned text development and DHP creates cohesion with hypernym-hyponym relation. Problems related to the lack of TP, inappropriate theme positioning and the overuse of the theme “It” and “There” are also reported in the corpus.

Abstract:
Sugar transporter proteins (STPs), such as H+/sugar symporters, play essential roles in plants’ sugar transport, growth, and development, and possess an important potential to enhance plants’ performance of multiple agronomic traits, especially crop yield and stress tolerance. However, the evolutionary dynamics of this important gene family in Gramineae crops are still not well-documented and functional differentiation of rice STP genes remain unclear. To address this gap, we conducted a comparative genomic study of STP genes in seven representative Gramineae crops, which are Brachypodium distachyon (Bd), Hordeum vulgare (Hv), Setaria italica (Si), Sorghum bicolor (Sb), Zea mays (Zm), Oryza rufipogon (Or), and Oryza sativa ssp. japonica (Os). In this case, a total of 177 STP genes were identified and grouped into four clades. Of four clades, the Clade I, Clade III, and Clade IV showed an observable number expansion compared to Clade II. Our results of identified duplication events and divergence time of duplicate gene pairs indicated that tandem, Whole genome duplication (WGD)/segmental duplication events play crucial roles in the STP gene family expansion of some Gramineae crops (expect for Hv) during a long-term evolutionary process. However, expansion mechanisms of the STP gene family among the tested species were different. Further selective force studies revealed that the STP gene family in Gramineae crops was under purifying selective forces and different clades and orthologous groups with different selective forces. Furthermore, expression analysis showed that rice STP genes play important roles not only in flower organs development but also under various abiotic stresses (cold, high-temperature, and submergence stresses), blast infection, and wounding. The current study highlighted the expansion and evolutionary patterns of the STP gene family in Gramineae genomes and provided some important messages for the future functional analysis of Gramineae crop STP genes.

Abstract:
Our previous studies have shown the presence of daytime positive electron density disturb-ances during several days after the start of the recovery phase. The aim of this paper is to study after-effects of geomagnetic storms (after-storm effects), i.e. ionospher-ic effects observed on the 3–5th day after the beginning of the storm recovery phase. From numerical calcula-tions with the GSM TIP model, we have found the main mechanisms for the formation of the after-storm effects. Using Irkutsk (52° N, 104° E) and Kaliningrad (54° N, 20° E) ionosonde data, we have carried out a statistical analysis of daytime ionospheric responses to geomagnetic storms. As a result of the analysis, we obtained averaged ionospheric responses at the beginning of the storm recovery phase and for five consecutive days. The statistical analysis results received near the beginning of the recovery phase are in good agreement with the well-known ionospheric effects of geomagnetic storms obtained in previous studies. For the first time, the obtained statistics of iono-spheric responses observed on the 3–5th day after the beginning of the recovery phase allowed us to reveal the dependence of after-storm ionospheric effects on season, storm intensity, and ionosonde geomagnetic latitude. In addition, we for the first time present the interpretation of after-storm ionospheric effects from numerical simulation results.

Abstract:
The glass-to-metal seals are usually used in the solar thermal power (STP) and electronic devices. However, the requirement of mechanical properties in the STP is much higher than that of electronic devices, because the glass-to-metal joints used in the STP need to have anti-fatigue performance in adition to higher static tensile strength. Under the repeated fluctuating loads, damage and failures of glass-to-metal seals in the STP often lead to serious consequences. Therefore, analysis of damage evolution and fracture behavior of glass-to-metal diffusion welded joints was performed in this paper. Firstly, the finite element (FE) model of glass-to-metal welded joints was established in accordance with the STP welded structures. And damage simulation was carried out by the FE software ABAQUS. Also, the work illustrates the modeling of damage in terms of traction versus separation to simulate crack propagation and introduces the use of traction-separation law as a damage initiation and evolution criteria. The microgram of damage distribution in the glass side near the interface could be characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), which was compared with predictions obtained by finite element method (FEM) analysis. As result, the damage criteria on the lap joints in conjunction with FM analysis were used to optimize the glass-to-metal diffusion welding technology. The above results provide the basis of design against damage and reliable estimation of glass-to-metal seals.

Abstract:
Many firms are increasingly cooperating in their technological undertakings. They engage in strategic technology partnerships (STP) for technological, commercial, industrial, and financial reasons. STP is deemed imperative for easing access to strands of technologies that are unknown to a company. This frequency analysis on STP is based on systematic literature review (SLR) approach and provides a thorough review of 57 articles published in highly-ranked peer-reviewed journals spanning a 26-year period from 1988 to the beginning of 2014. Research on STP is somewhat fragmented which, renders some of the research studies irreconcilable and impedes a greater understanding and consistency of the discipline. There is still a growing body of literature on the subject matter from various disciplinary perspectives which adopt various theoretical and methodological lenses at diverse levels of analysis. In the current paper, we analyze among other things the various methodological, research and theoretical issues underpinning STP and propose a research agenda. Hence, we contribute to the existing body of knowledge on STP literature by offering a state-of-the-art overview of current research and elaborating on promising areas for further investigation.

Abstract:
The work is devoted to the development of a fundamentally new way of modeling the ionospheric D-region – deterministic-probabilistic. The results of Ne calculations using this technique are analyzed. Research of this kind is of fundamental importance, related to the rejection of a purely deterministic description of a continuously changing environment such as the ionosphere. In this work, the electron density is calculated using a five-component system of ionization-recombination cycle equations. Probability density functions (PDFs) of input parameters of the model are used to solve the system. The most important sources of the D-region ionization are taken into account to calculate PDFs of the ionization rate. The necessary number of iterations is determined by the convergence of PDFs of the electron density from 50 km to 85 km at midlatitudes under different heliogeophysical conditions. Theoretical Ne PDFs have been shown to be in good agreement with two experimental databases on electron density, especially at large D-region heights. The next important stage of modeling is the thorough verification of Ne PDFs from experimental radiophysical data on VLF–LF propagation.

Abstract:
Metal acquisition is vital to pathogens for successful infection within hosts. Staphylopine (StP), a broad-spectrum metallophore biosynthesized by the major human pathogen, Staphylococcus aureus, plays a central role in transition-metal acquisition and bacterial virulence. The StP-like biosynthesis loci are present in various pathogens, and the proteins responsible for StP/metal transportation have been determined. However, the molecular mechanisms of how StP/metal complexes are recognized and transported remain unknown. We report multiple structures of the extracytoplasmic solute-binding protein CntA from the StP/metal transportation system in apo form and in complex with StP and three different metals. We elucidated a sophisticated metal-bound StP recognition mechanism and determined that StP/metal binding triggers a notable interdomain conformational change in CntA. Furthermore, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated single-base substitution mutations and biochemical analysis highlight the importance of StP/metal recognition for StP/metal acquisition. These discoveries provide critical insights into the study of novel metal-acquisition mechanisms in microbes.

Abstract:
Recently, the concept of a Sliding Track Panel (STP) system, which allows the bridge to slide in the longitudinal direction, has been proposed for continuous welded rail method laid on long span non-ballast bridges, such as truss railway bridges. The performance of the STP system is determined based on the ability to prevent the lateral buckling of STP. This study attempts to derive the optimum interval distance and required stiffness of the lateral support member to be installed in the STP system through buckling analysis. According to the analysis, the interval distance of lateral support member, which satisfies the strength of STP, is less than 2.8 m and the rigidity is more than 800 N/mm.

Science and technology parks (STP) are as the main linkage between university and industry in order to develop and commercialize innovations and new products/services. A STP is an area where innovation is a key and supports university, industry and even government collaborations to speed the development of high tech-economic and advancing knowledge. They provide a variety of shared resources such as incubators, collaboration activities, uninterruptible power supply, reception and security, science and technology corridor, management offices, restaurants, bank, internal transportation, entertainment and sports facilities to bring the potential ideas and products/services in the market and industry to improve the community prosperity. This research reviews the STPs located in the US universities in order to have a comparative analysis with a STP located in the developing countries. Our case is the STP of the University of Tehran in Iran. Although the STO of University of Tehran is working with more than 10 years’ experience, however, there are noticeable gaps between the achievements and potentials and targets based on the assessment indicators. Therefore, comparative studies with successful cases help to cover such gap. Our research also presents an innovative framework in order to better performance of STP of the University of Tehran.

ABSTRACT The STP oncoproteins of the herpesvirus saimiri (HVS) subgroup A strain 11 and subgroup C strain 488 are now found to be stably associated with tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor (TRAF) 1, 2, or 3. Mutational analyses identified residues of PXQXT/S in STP-A11 as critical for TRAF association. In addition, a somewhat divergent region of STP-C488 is critical for TRAF association. Mutational analysis also revealed that STP-C488 induced NF-κB activation that was correlated with its ability to associate with TRAFs. The HVS STP-C488 P10→R mutant was deficient in human T-lymphocyte transformation to interleukin-2-independent growth but showed wild-type phenotype for marmoset T-lymphocyte transformation in vitro and in vivo. The STP-C488 P10→R mutant was also defective in Rat-1 fibroblast transformation, and fibroblast cell transformation was blocked by a TRAF2 dominant-negative mutant. These data implicate TRAFs in STP-C488-mediated transformation of human lymphocytes and rodent fibroblasts. Other factors are implicated in immortalization of common marmoset T lymphocytes and may also be critical in the transformation of human lymphocytes and rodent fibroblasts.

Repeated measures analysis with soil pH covariate revealed: (1) manure %PRR averaged 72% (low-STP soil) and 80% (medium-STP soil), (2) there were no significant differences in %PRR between dairy and hen manure, and (3) manure %PRR decreased with incubation time for the low-STP soil but not for the medium-STP soil. The soil pH covariate was significant for both low- and medium-STP soils, and the relationship with %PRR was positive for low- but not for the medium-STP soil.

Abstract:
Abstract Convective available potential energy (CAPE) is known to lack skill in discussing the environments of tornadic and nontornadic storms, or those of tornado outbreaks and nonoutbreaks. In this paper, a composite analysis of extratropical cyclones that caused 15 or more tornadoes [outbreak cyclones (OCs)] and 5 or fewer tornadoes [nonoutbreak cyclones (NOCs)] in the United States in April and May between 1995 and 2012 shows that entraining-CAPE (E-CAPE), which considers the effects of the entrainment of environmental air, is useful in the analysis of the environments of OCs and NOCs. E-CAPE in the warm sector of OCs is larger than that in the warm sector of NOCs (statistically significant at the 95%–99% level). Moreover, the regions with large E-CAPE for both OCs and NOCs are more closely correlated with the locations of tornadoes than those with large CAPE. The larger E-CAPE near the center in the warm sector of OCs is due to greater moisture at low and midlevels that results from advection by strong southerly winds and synoptic-scale ascent, respectively. The composite analysis also shows that E-EHI, E-SCP, and E-STP, for which traditional CAPE used in the energy helicity index (EHI), supercell composite parameter (SCP), and significant tornado parameter (STP) is substituted by E-CAPE, are more strongly correlated with tornado locations than are the original EHI, SCP, and STP, respectively.

The Pinus mugo complex includes several dozen closely related European mountain pines. The discrimination of specific taxa within this complex is still extremely challenging, although numerous methodologies have been used to solve this problem, including morphological and anatomical analyses, cytological studies, allozyme variability, and DNA barcoding, etc. In this study, we used the seed total protein (STP) patterns to search for taxonomically interesting differences among three closely-related pine taxa from the Pinus mugo complex and five more distant species from the Pinaceae family. It was postulated that STP profiling can serve as the backup methodology for modern taxonomic research, in which more sophisticated analyses, i.e., based on the DNA barcoding approach, have been found to be useless. A quantitative analysis of the STP profiles revealed characteristic electrophoretic patterns for all the analyzed taxa from Pinaceae. STP profiling enabled the discrimination of closely-related pine taxa, even of those previously indistinguishable by chloroplast DNA barcodes. The results obtained in this study indicate that STP profiling can be very useful for solving complex taxonomic puzzles.

Abstract:
Understanding the primary mechanisms for plant promotion under salt stress with plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) inoculation of different salt-tolerant plant groups would be conducive to using PGPR efficiently. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate plant growth promotion and uncover its underlying mechanisms in salt-sensitive plants (SSP) and salt-tolerant plants (STP) with PGPR inoculation under salt stress. PGPR inoculation decreased proline, sodium ion (Na+) and malondialdehyde but increased plant biomass, nutrient acquisition (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium ion (K+), calcium ion (Ca2+), and magnesium ion (Mg2+)), ion homeostasis (K+/Na+ ratio, Ca2+/Na+ ratio, and Mg2+/Na+ ratio), osmolytes accumulation (soluble sugar and soluble protein), antioxidants (superoxide dismutase), and photosynthesis (chlorophyll, carotenoid, and photosynthetic rate) in both SSP and STP. The effect size of total biomass positively correlated with the effect sizes of nutrient acquisition and the homeostasis of K+/Na+, and negatively correlated with the effect size of malondialdehyde in both SSP and STP. The effect size of total biomass also positively correlated with the effect sizes of carotenoid and the homeostasis in Ca2+/Na+ and Mg2+/Na+ and negatively correlated with the effect size of Na+ in SSP, but it only negatively correlated with the effect size of Ca2+ in STP. Our results suggest that the plant growth improvement depends on the nutrient acquisition enhancement in both SSP and STP, while ion homeostasis plays an important role and carotenoid may promote plant growth through protecting photosynthesis, reducing oxidative damage and promoting nutrient acquisition only in SSP after PGPR inoculation under salt stress.

Abstract:
As part of the Plasma–Progress and Radar–Progress space experiments conducted from 2006 to 2014, effects of the Progress spacecraft engines on the ionosphere have been studied using data from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receivers. 72 exper-iments have been carried out. All these experiments were based on data from the International GNSS Service (IGS) to record ionospheric plasma irregularities caused by engine operation. 35 experiments used data from the ISTP SB RAS network SibNet. The analysis of the spatio-temporal structure of total electron content (TEC) variations has shown that the problem of identifying the TEC response to engine operation is complicated by a number of factors: 1) the engine effect on ionospheric plasma is strongly localized in space and has a relatively low intensity; 2) a small number of satellite—receiver radio rays due to the limited number of GNSS stations, particularly before 2013; 3) a potential TEC response is masked with background ionospheric disturbances of various intensi-ties. However, TEC responses are identified with certainty when a satellite—receiver radio ray crosses a disturbed region within minutes after the impact. TEC responses have been registered in 7 experiments (10 % of cases). The amplitude of ionospheric response (0.3–0.16 TECU) exceeded the background TEC variations (~0.25 TECU) several times. The TEC data indicate that the ionospheric irregularity lifetime is from 4 to 10 minutes. According to the estimates we made, the transverse size of irregularities is from 12 to 30 km.

We perform a comparative analysis of information about the neutral horizontal wind over Eastern Siberia in the winter-spring period obtained by different methods. We observe some features appearing at different heights during geomagnetic storms and sudden stratospheric warming events. We propose a method for comparative statistical analysis of the neutral wind registered at different sites and show its validity. Using this method, we make a quantitative comparison of winds measured over Eastern Siberia in the winter-spring period. The wind measured by the meteor radar and Fabry-Perot interferometer at 90 km has similar direction and absolute velocity. The wind measured by the Fabry—Perot interferometer at 100 km differs from that estimated by the meteor radar only in direction. The wind measured by the Fabry—Perot interferometer at 250 km has a velocity 2.5 times faster and a direction differing by 30–40° from the wind obtained by the meteor radar.

Abstract:
Remote sensing (RS) technology is a viable complementary alternative to current agriculture surveying methods. RS data spectral information is the main variable used for several purposes, such as crop type identification. However, different management practices (MP) adopted in crop cultivation may alter its spectral characteristics. The objective of this work is to analyze the spectral-temporal profile (STP) variation of soybean, maize and sugarcane cultivated under different MP. We used time series of the six spectral bands of the OLI/Landsat-8 sensor and of two vegetation indexes (VI) to investigate the intraspecific variation (same crop specie) and the interspecific variation (different crop species). We applied hierarchical cluster analyses to determine the crop´s STP variation. The bands results were more efficient than the VI. This shows that despite the widely use of VI, better results are retrieved when using the bands STP, which also allows differentiating and analyzing crops cultivated under different MP.

Abstract:
OBJECTIVEThe epileptogenic zones in some patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) involve regions outside the typical extent of anterior temporal lobectomy (i.e., “temporal plus epilepsy”), including portions of the supratemporal plane (STP). Failure to identify this subset of patients and adjust the surgical plan accordingly results in suboptimum surgical outcomes. There are unique technical challenges associated with obtaining recordings from the STP. The authors sought to examine the clinical utility and safety of placing depth electrodes within the STP in patients with TLE.METHODSThis study is a retrospective review and analysis of all cases in which patients underwent intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) with use of at least one STP depth electrode over the 10 years from January 2006 through December 2015 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Basic clinical information was collected, including the presence of ictal auditory symptoms, electrode coverage, monitoring results, resection extent, outcomes, and complications. Additionally, cases in which the temporal lobe was primarily or secondarily involved in seizure onset and propagation were categorized based upon how rapidly epileptic activity was observed within the STP following seizure onsets: within 1 second, between 1 and 15 seconds, after 15 seconds, and not involved.RESULTSFifty-two patients underwent iEEG with STP coverage, with 1 STP electrode used in 45 (86.5%) cases and 2 STP electrodes in the other cases. There were no complications related to STP electrode placement. Of 42 cases in which the temporal lobe was primarily or secondarily involved, seizure activity was recorded from the STP in 36 cases (85.7%): in 5 cases (11.9%) within 1 second, in 5 (11.9%) between 1 and 15 seconds, and in 26 (61.9%) more than 15 seconds following seizure onset. Seizure outcomes inversely correlated with rapid ictal involvement of the STP (Engel class I achieved in 25%, 67%, and 82% of patients in the above categories, respectively). All patients without ictal STP involvement achieved seizure freedom. Only 4 (11.1%) patients with STP ictal involvement reported auditory symptoms.CONCLUSIONSIctal involvement of the STP is common even in the absence of auditory symptoms and can be effectively detected by the STP electrodes. These electrodes are safe to implant and provide useful prognostic information.

Abstract:
Integration of public health and primary healthcare (PHC) is a hallmark of comprehensive PHC to reduce inequitable rates of preventable diseases in communities at risk. In the context of a syphilis outbreak among Indigenous people in Northern Australia, the association between PHC clinic factors and syphilis testing performance (STP) was examined to produce empirical insights for service managers. Data from the Audit and Best Practice for Chronic Disease National Program (2012–14) were analysed to examine associations between clinic factors and STP (proportion of clients ≥15 years who were tested for or offered a test for syphilis in the prior 24 months). Univariate analyses were conducted for 77 clinics and a subset of 67 remote clinics. Multivariate linear regression models were used to determine independent predictors of STP. Syphilis testing performance across PHC clinics ranged from 0 to 93.8% (median 46.5%). In univariate analysis, Delivery system design, which refers to clinic infrastructure, staffing profile and allocation of roles and responsibilities, was significantly associated with higher STP in all clinics (P=0.004) and in the subset of remote clinics (P=0.008). Syphilis testing performance was higher in the Northern Territory compared to other states, in remote clinics and clinics serving smaller populations. In multivariate analysis, Delivery system design and jurisdiction remained associated with STP. To better realise the potential of comprehensive PHC, service managers should focus on PHC delivery system design to enhance the current syphilis outbreak response.

Abstract:
Purpose – Strategic technology partnering (STP) is considered to be significant for the access to novel technologies that are unknown to organisations. However, the performance heterogeneities within organisations can be explained by STP capabilities. Hence, the purpose of this paper is threefold: first, to provide a classificatory framework by categorising the various STP capabilities; second, to draw conclusions from the analysis of the empirical findings; and third, to guide further publications and identify future research needs. Design/methodology/approach – The present paper adopts a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology. In this research, the extant empirical research on STP capabilities will first be classified and integrated within a classificatory framework. Lastly, the review insights will provide methodological suggestions along with theoretical themes for future research that have not been yet explored. Findings – The study findings show that there is a strong need for a clear and unified terminology for the distinctive capabilities of STP and research has mainly highlighted certain common capabilities while other essential ones lack analysis. The SLR further reveals that most research has been quantitative in nature relying on secondary database research. Originality/value – This SLR provides a thorough overview of prior research on STP capabilities investigating 65 articles published in highly ranked peer-reviewed journals, spanning a 22-year period from 1992 to 2014. In sum, his review structures extant STP capabilities literature into a proposed classificatory framework referred to as “CLONT-framework” and highlights its critical importance in strategic management and innovation research from a theoretical, empirical, and practical point of view.

Abstract:
Recycling of sewage treatment plant (STP) effluent is one of the attractive solutions to fulfill clean water for hotels and malls in Indonesia. STP effluent has average characteristics as follow: pH 6.8; color (true color) 107 PtCo; A254 (UV absorption) 0.36 cm-1 and COD 35.9 mg/L. Because of high color and organics contents, STP effluent needs further treatment such as activated carbon adsorption. Batch and continuous treatment of synthetic STP effluent by a commercial granular activated carbon (Filtrasorb 300) were investigated. The results show that adsorption capacity of the Filtrasorb 300 for color body of STP effluent was 184 PCU/g of carbon. Langmuir model is appropriate to describe the isotherm adsorption process in this study, with Qm: 476.2 PCU/g of carbon. The results of isotherm adsorption model evaluation, SEM photograph and FTIR analysis show that color adsorption occurred was physical adsoption.

Abstract:
Objective This study aimed to investigate the damage pattern of the stress transfer path (STP) for the Japanese Investigation Committee (JIC) classification of pre-collapse osteonecrosis of the femoral head. We aimed to provide a specific biomechanical basis for treatment decisions of each subtype. Methods Five computational models were used in the experiment. Different necrotic classifications were simulated based on the JIC classification system. Damage patterns of the STP were used for qualitative assessment and average stresses were used for quantitative analysis. Results The STP of type A showed a strong similarity to the healthy level, which was consistent with the bone density distribution in X-rays and previous simulations results. The damaged area of principal stress of type B was approximately 25% of the healthy level. The STPs of types C1 and C2 were broken and the damaged areas of principal stress were more than 50% of the healthy level. The efficiency of stress transfer was reduced. Conclusions These results indicate that the damage patterns and stress transfer efficiency of the femoral head are associated with necrotic classifications.

Abstract:
Abstract Precipitation on the Tibetan Plateau (TP) showed different spatial changes during 1979–2016, with an increasing trend over the northern Tibetan Plateau (NTP) and a slightly negative trend over the southern Tibetan Plateau (STP). The changes in precipitation moisture sources over the NTP and STP are investigated using the improved Water Accounting Model with an atmospheric reanalysis as well as observational precipitation and evaporation data. The results show the region in the northwest (region NW), ranging from the TP to Europe dominated by the westerlies, provides 38.9% of precipitation moisture for the NTP, and the region in the southeast (region SE), ranging from the TP to the Indian Ocean and Indochina dominated by the Asian monsoons, provides 51.4% of precipitation moisture for the STP. For the precipitation increase over the NTP, the SE and TP are the main contributors, contributing around 35.8% and 51.7% of the increase, respectively. The contributions from the SE and TP to the STP are, however, minor and insignificant. Meanwhile, the NW shows a negative trend of −4.2 ± 2.9 mm yr−1 decade−1 (significant at the 0.01 level), which contributes to the negative precipitation trend over the STP. Results during the wet season indicate that moisture sources from the areas dominated by the Asian monsoons have contributed more precipitated moisture for the NTP, but not for the STP. Further analysis reveals that precipitated moisture originating from the Indian subcontinent has increased for the NTP while it has decreased for the STP during 1979–2016.

Abstract:
Abstract The automatic phase‐picking detection of earthquakes is a challenge under the background of big data and strong noise circumstances. The short‐term average/long‐term average (STA/LTA) ratio is widely used to detect earthquake due to its simplicity and robustness. However, STA/LTA‐based methods may not perform well with noisy data. Based on the signal‐to‐noise‐ratio (SNR) concept, a short‐term power/long‐term power (STP/LTP) ratio method is proposed. The characteristic function and the detection thresholds of the STP/LTP method are given physical meanings. Through a sample analysis, the STP/LTP detection results of both the P and S phases are better than the results of the STA/LTA by means of mean deviation, standard deviations, distributions of detection results, error rate, and missed rate on different SNR levels. In general, the STP/LTP method inherits the simple characteristics of the STA/LTA method, and it is suitable for phase picking of low‐SNR seismic data.

Abstract:
Fuzzy principal component regression (FPCR) is proposed to model the non-linear process of sewage treatment plant (STP) data matrix. The dimension reduction of voluminous data was done by principal component analysis (PCA). The PCA score values were partitioned by fuzzy-c-means (FCM) clustering, and a Takagi–Sugeno–Kang (TSK) fuzzy model was built based on the FCM functions. The FPCR approach was used to predict the reduction in chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) of treated wastewater of Vidyaranyapuram STP with respect to the relations modeled between fuzzy partitioned PCA scores and target output. The designed FPCR model showed the ability to capture the behavior of non-linear processes of STP. The predicted values of reduction in COD and BOD were analyzed by performing the linear regression analysis. The predicted values for COD and BOD reduction showed positive correlation with the observed data.

Abstract:
e17541 Background: High-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) is the most common subtype of epithelial ovarian and tubal cancer. It has a high mortality rate, even after successful first-line treatment with debulking surgery and chemotherapy. Although therapeutic options for targeted therapy are rapidly expanding, identification of patients who respond to these therapies remains a challenge. In recognition of the importance of the functional phenotype of cancer cells, Verhaegh et al. (Cancer Res 2014) developed assays to measure functional activity of signal transduction pathways (STPs) based on mRNA expression levels of pathway-specific target genes. In this study, we aimed to identify HGSCs with STP activity with potential clinical target by comparing their activity assessment with STP activity in normal Fallopian tube epithelium (FTE), the tissue of origin of most HGSCs. Methods: We included 67 primary tumor samples taken prior to start of chemotherapy of postmenopausal patients diagnosed with advanced stage HGSC and 8 morphologically normal FTE samples of healthy postmenopausal women. Using OncoSignal pathway assays, we assessed functional pathway activity of the androgen receptor (AR), estrogen receptor (ER), PI3K, Hedgehog, TGF-𝛽 and Wnt pathways. Differences in STP activity between groups were compared with Mann-Whitney U tests. Cut-off value for aberrant STP activity was defined as two standard deviations above the mean value of STP activity measured in FTE samples. Results: In the HGSC group we observed lower median ER (p < 0.001) and Wnt (p = 0.046) pathway activity and higher median PI3K (p = 0.025) and TGF-𝛽 pathway (p = 0.030) activity as compared to the normal FTE group. In individual HGSC samples, aberrant activity was identified for the AR (n = 14), PI3K (n = 16), Hedgehog (n = 4), TGF-𝛽 (n = 36) and Wnt (n = 10) pathways. Frequently observed combinations of aberrant STP activity were AR/TGF-𝛽 (n = 8), TGF-𝛽/Wnt (n = 6) and PI3K/Hedgehog (n = 3). In total, we identified at least one STP with potential clinical target in 52 of the 67 HGSC samples. Conclusions: Our analysis enabled the identification of STP activity with potential clinical target in 78% of the analyzed HGSC samples. Differentiation between normal and aberrant STP activity could have clinical utility in the selection of HGSC patients for targeted therapy.

Abstract:
Abstract. The origin of aerosol particles in the upper troposphere and lowermost stratosphere over the Eurasian continent was investigated by applying cluster analysis methods to in situ measured data. Number concentrations of submicrometer aerosol particles and trace gas mixing ratios derived by the CARIBIC (Civil Aircraft for Regular Investigation of the Atmosphere Based on an Instrument Container) measurement system on flights between Germany and South-East Asia were used for this analysis. Four cluster analysis methods were applied to a test data set and their capability of separating the data points into scientifically reasonable clusters was assessed. The best method was applied to seasonal data subsets for summer and winter resulting in five cluster or air mass types: stratosphere, tropopause, free troposphere, high clouds, and boundary layer influenced. Other source clusters, like aircraft emissions could not be resolved in the present data set with the used methods. While the cluster separation works satisfactory well for the summer data, in winter interpretation is more difficult, which is attributed to either different vertical transport pathways or different chemical lifetimes in both seasons. The geographical distribution of the clusters together with histograms for nucleation and Aitken mode particles within each cluster are presented. Aitken mode particle number concentrations show a clear vertical gradient with the lowest values in the lowermost stratosphere (750–2820 particles/cm3 STP, minimum of the two 25% – and maximum of the two 75%-percentiles of both seasons) and the highest values for the boundary-layer-influenced air (4290–22 760 particles/cm3 STP). Nucleation mode particles are also highest in the boundary-layer-influenced air (1260–29 500 particles/cm3 STP), but are lowest in the free troposphere (0–450 particles/cm3 STP). The given submicrometer particle number concentrations represent the first large-scale seasonal data sets for the upper troposphere and lowermost stratosphere over the Eurasian continent.

While the cluster separation works satisfactory well for the summer data, in winter interpretation is more difficult, which is attributed to either different vertical transport pathways or different chemical lifetimes in the two seasons. The geographical distribution of the clusters together with histograms for nucleation and Aitken mode particles within each cluster are presented. Aitken mode particle number concentrations show a clear vertical gradient with the lowest values in the lowermost stratosphere (750–2820 particles/cm3 STP, minimum of the two 25%- and maximum of the two 75%-percentiles of both seasons) and the highest values for the boundary-layer-influenced air (4290–22 760 particles/cm3 STP). Nucleation mode particles are also highest in the boundary-layer-influenced air (1260–29 500 particles/cm3 STP, but are lowest in the free troposphere (0–450 particles/cm3 STP). The given submicrometer particle number concentrations represent the first statistically sound data set for the upper troposphere and lowermost stratosphere over the Eurasian continent.

Abstract:
AbstractThe Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has developed a database of damage-surveyed tornadoes in the contiguous United States (2009–17) that relates environmental and radar-derived storm attributes to damage ratings that change during a tornado life cycle. Damage indicators (DIs), and the associated wind speed estimates from tornado damage surveys compiled in the Damage Assessment Toolkit (DAT) dataset, were linked to the nearest manual calculations of 0.5° tilt angle maximum rotational velocity Vrot from single-site WSR-88D data. For each radar scan, the maximum wind speed from the highest-rated DI, Vrot, and the significant tornado parameter (STP) from the SPC hourly objective mesoscale analysis archive were recorded and analyzed. Results from examining Vrot and STP data indicate an increasing conditional probability for higher-rated DIs (i.e., EF-scale wind speed estimate) as both STP and Vrot increase. This work suggests that tornadic wind speed exceedance probabilities can be estimated in real time, on a scan-by-scan basis, via Vrot and STP for ongoing tornadoes.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to indicate potential causes for formation of a government coalition with the extreme right-wing League of Polish Families (LPR) in Poland in 2006. The aim is to determine the motivation of the right-wing mainstream Law and Justice party to cooperate with LPR, but also to indicate potential reasons why the coalition was not concluded until nine months after the elections. The goal is therefore to highlight potential constraints in the formation of the coalition. The analysis uses theories of coalition formation based on the rational choice paradigm (office, policy and vote) combined with an empirical approach to coalition research, with particular emphasis on factors such as the structure of competition in the party system and the internal dynamics of parties. The starting point for this analysis is the result of research on the causes of cabinet collaboration with the extreme right in Western Europe. The aim is to indicate whether the motivations for forming a coalition with the extreme right in Poland are based on similar premises and mechanisms. The analysis combines the deductive approach resulting from the theory of coalition formation with the inductive analysis of facts and factors that accompanied the formation of the coalition. In order to achieve the assumed goals, the article uses quantitative and qualitative methods and systemic analysis.

Abstract:
The herbage yield responses to phosphorus (P) fertilization show large variation and, unlike to cereals, initial soil test P (STP) does not always predict such variation. By using meta-analysis, we reviewed quantitatively 38 Finnish field experiments related to the effects of P fertilization on herbage dry matter (DM) yields in the 1960s – 2000s. The current meta-analysis has several advantages over other type of research aiming to summarize the effect of P fertilization on herbage production. It involves large number of studies, diversity of soils and cultivation zones, and it enables to highlight the sources of variation in responses across the studies. Along with clay and coarse-textured mineral soils, we observed 20 studies on organic soils, whereas previous European and Canadian studies on the same topic involved mostly mineral soils. Moreover, we developed yield response models for different soil textures and initial STP levels. The summarized effect of P fertilization (mean 50 kg P ha-1) on DM yields was 13% over the control (N and K fertilization) with large variation across the studies from –10% to 70%. The major sources of variation were soil texture, soil acidity (for organic soils), initial STP and the yield level in control. For example, the yield response was three times larger on organic soils than on clay or coarse-textured mineral soils. Moreover, the yield response was double on slightly acidic organic soils (29%, n = 8) compared to that on moderately acidic ones (15%, n = 11). Thus, for acidic organic soils, even with low STP, P fertilization may be practically useless until the soils are first limed. Meta-regression proved that generally the responses reduced with increasing initial STP across the studies and reached zero at high STP (PAc, 21 mg l-1). However, in some studies with high control yields, no responses were observed even at low STP, since the responses decreased linearly with increasing control yields. Finally, the responses did not statistically differ between the cultivation zones, cut frequency, decades, or between the studies having different duration of experiments. Variation in herbage yields that is often observed in P fertilizer experiments is only partly related to increasing P rates, but also other factors should be taken into account. Further studies should address to the role of, e.g., soil structure in yield development, as it is evident that additional relevant explanatory variables would be needed to adequately explain the variation in herbage yields.

Abstract:
ObjectivesRobotic-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP) is typically conducted in steep Trendelenburg position (STP). This study investigated the influence of permanent 45° STP and capnoperitoneum on haemodynamic parameters during and after RALP.DesignProspective observational study.SettingHaemodynamic changes were recorded with transpulmonary thermodilution and pulse contour analysis in men undergoing RALP under standardised anaesthesia.ParticipantsInformed consent was obtained from 51 patients scheduled for elective RALP in a University Medical Centre in Germany.InterventionsHeart rate, mean arterial pressure, central venous pressure (CVP), Cardiac Index (CI), systemic vascular resistance (SVR), Global End-Diastolic Volume Index (GEDI), global ejection fraction (GEF), Cardiac Power Index (CPI) and stroke volume variation (SVV) were recorded at six time points: 20 min after induction of anaesthesia (T1), after insufflation of capnoperitoneum in supine position (T2), after 30 min in STP (T3), when controlling Santorini’s plexus in STP (T4), before awakening in supine position (T5) and after 45 min in the recovery room (T6). Adverse cardiac events were registered intraoperatively and postoperatively.ResultsAll haemodynamic parameters were significantly changed by capnoperitoneum and STP during RALP and partly normalised at T6. CI, GEF and CPI were highest at T6 (CI: 3.9 vs 2.2 L/min/m²; GEF: 26 vs 22%; CPI: 0.80 vs 0.39 W/m²; p<0.001). CVP was highest at T4 (31 vs 7 mm Hg, p<0.001) and GEDI at T6 (819 vs 724 mL/m², p=0.005). Mean SVR initially increased (T2) but had decreased by 24% at T6 (p<0.001). SVV was highest at T5 (12 vs 9%, p<0.001). Two of the patients developed cardiac arrhythmia during RALP and one patient suffered postoperative cardiac ischaemia.ConclusionsRALP led to pronounced perioperative haemodynamic changes. The combination of increased cardiac contractility and heart rate reflects a hyperdynamic situation during and after RALP. Anaesthesiologists should be aware of unnoticed pre-existing heart failure to worsen during STP in patients undergoing RALP.

Abstract:
At this stage, the beverage market has become the Red Sea. HEYTEA, Naixue’s Tea at the top, and Michelle Ice City, which occupies third- and fourth-tier cities, account for most of the total market. How to gain a competitive advantage in the beverage market where competition is fierce and marketing methods tend to be consistent is a problem that Fresh Fruit Time (Changchun) needs to solve. This paper analyzes the existing marketing mix of Fresh Fruit Time (Changchun) and finds that it has shortcomings in word-of-mouth marketing. With the help of STP analysis and statistics method, combined with Fresh Fruit Time’s product characteristics and business philosophy, it identifies young white- collar women as the target market, positioning a healthy and comfortable buying environment, and proposing word-of-mouth marketing suggestions for creating topical events through related media, viral communication and search marketing optimization. The combination of STP and statistics method is an innovation, making statistical methods more realistic.

Abstract:
This article attempts to make an empirical verification of the impact the electoral law on shaping the expectations of voters towards elected representatives. The analysis was conducted using data collected under the project entitled ‘The impact of electoral rules on the quality of local democracy in Poland’, whose fundamental premise was to take advantage of the situation arising after the amendment to the Electoral Code in 2011, as a result of which different electoral regulations were in force in the 2014 local government elections in various similar cities. Therefore, it was possible to verify a number of statements functioning in public space regarding issues, such as the positive impact of single-mandate constituencies on the quality of democracy (in particular, on the quality of democracy at the local level). The purpose of the analysis was to try to find regularities in changes in perceiving the role of councillors that may have occurred as a result of different electoral regulations. To this end, we used the qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) methodology, which allows the study of relationships between sets and the interpretation of these relationships in terms of necessity and sufficiency. The results suggest that the introduction of the majority system in a number of cities in the 2014 local government elections did not lead to the formation of a coherent model of political representation at the city council level, which would be qualitatively different from the representation model characteristic for cities with a proportional electoral system.

Abstract:
A study was conducted on the reuse of the water in a system composed of a sewage treatment plant (STP) using prolonged aeration with activated sludge and a compact water treatment plant (CWTP) in a metallurgic industry. The processes for obtaining the water for reuse were microbiological and physicochemical. The domestic sewage was then pumped to the STP, where biological flocks were formed and clarified water was obtained. The efficiency of the microbiological process in the STP was evaluated for removal of biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and sedimentary solids (SS). The efficiency of physicochemical processes for clarifying the water and disinfection was evaluated through analysis of pH, turbidity, color, aerobic heterotrophic bacterial count, free chlorine, hardness, alkalinity, chlorides, sulfates and dissolved total solids (DTS). In the reuse of the water, acute toxicity for the microcrustaceans Daphnia similis was also evaluated.

Abstract:
Cocoa is one of the main goods in the world agricultural trade markets, occupying the third position in exports. The paper introduces the cocoa value chain worldwide, its asymmetries, and the supply and value chain specific to the São Tomé and Principe (STP) organic cocoa. It aims to understand this value chain’s internal and external tensions and analyse its potential to be inserted in the international markets. The study uses panel data analysis from the FAOSTAT database. The tensions mentioned are due to the asymmetries of international markets and those regarding the production of organic cocoa in STP. At the level of STP and, despite measures to support organic production as a valuable alternative to the country’s development strategy, imbalances in the value chain persist that compromise the livelihoods of small producers responsible for most of production exported and the sustainability of the ecosystem.
