Abstract:
AbstractThis paper documents a case study involving a Perth primary school accompanied on its sustainability journey by Millennium Kids Inc, a local not-for-proft community organisation. Tension between the school's sustainability focus, its prestige as an elite private school and a “lucky country” mentality frames the Australian-ness of this environmental education story. Data draws from interviews conducted with teachers, the deputy principal, principal, and CEO of Millennium Kids. School staff reported that Millennium Kids' collaborative approach connected the school with community groups and families in meaningful ways, provided support to staff, and infuenced curriculum integration by engaging the student voice. Challenges in the school related to managing expectations from families, leadership that fosters shared responsibility, and teachers' efforts to integrate sustainability across learning areas. A pattern of sustainability education was established in the school but these challenges could encumber the longevity, integration and support for these initiatives in the future.

This is just one story of Attention Deficit Disorder. It's not finished and won't be for awhile. John, who had been so unfortunate in those early years, partly from what we didn't know and partly from what we and the school system were unable to provide, had his life turned around by a type of school and teaching staff that is desperately needed in this country today. The numbers of these children are legion and their talents are wasted by our inability to educate them. The psychologist who first accurately diagnosed John explained it beautifully when he told us, “these kids normally go to jail, but given the right environment they can go anywhere.”

Abstract:
The vast majority of crime reporting occurs on local television news and in newspapers. Although crimes are extraordinary events, they assume an ordinariness that only daily reporting can give them. The obvious question is what does the news tell us about crime. This article compares the coverage of adult crime and the coverage of what the author has termed “KidsCrime,” defined as a story in which a juvenile was either the suspect or the victim (or both). What is the nature of that coverage? How consistent is it with official statistics? Are there differences between adult crime and KidsCrime coverage regarding offenses, victimization, production techniques, and other attributes? This examination of the crime coverage revealed (a) significant differences between KidsCrime and adult crime coverage, (b) a portrait of crime that was consistent and inconsistent with official statistics, and (c) a presentation approach that discouraged critical viewing.

Abstract:
Abstract The target of this study is to introduce one particular life story and on the basis of its content analysis to focus on the narrator’s connection with the period of so-called normalization era in Czechoslovakia. Based on oral history interviews with one narrator during the longitudinal oral history project, the author focuses on whether the memories of a given period change over time and how the narrator reflects on his memories. The author maps the narrator’s family background, the extent to which it shaped him and how he evaluated it as a thirty year old man and now, when he is fifty years old. The core of our narrator’s life story stays the same in principle; he did not change it after twenty years. The reason is that the narrator’s experience and the memories have sunk in and are consistent. What changed in the narrator’s story is the amount of self-reflection that was reflected during the last interview. It was confirmed that shifts in the reflection are a common phenomenon and that some variability may not be conscious. Interpretations and evaluations of life can change, but the experiences themselves do not change.

Abstract:
This article presents the texts of “The Goat and her kids”, a folk tale in the Rushani and Khufi languages. The Rushani version of the story was recorded by A. K. Pisarchik in 1943; the Khufi text was recor‑ ded in 1951 by V. S. Sokolova. Both texts are transcribed on the basis of the phonological principle using international Iranian transcrip‑ tion, with Russian translation; in the Rushani version the phonetic features of speech are also noted. In the present publication these texts are provided with morpheme-by-morpheme glossing. Both texts are valuable written documents that record an unwrit‑ ten language at a relatively early point in time. Despite the significant similarity of the cultural traditions and folklore of the Western Pamir peoples, the example of this folk tale highlights discrepancies in plot, theme and cast of characters. Differing from the more common story, widespread in Central Asia, about a fight between a goat and a wolf, the Rushani and Khufi tales presented here notably replace the antagonist with a bear.

Abstract:
The contents accessible through YouTube Kids are designed for a child audience and feature specific characters. Content creators need to pay attention to these characters to ensure that the messages conveyed are well-received and understood by children. Research on digital storytelling, especially in the context of game content, is still relatively scarce. This study aims to explore the elements of digital storytelling in YouTube Kids game content, particularly in game walkthroughs or guide content. The research method employed is qualitative content analysis. The selected content includes popular videos, not more than five years old, and accounts that are specifically accessible through YouTube Kids. The results indicate that not all videos intended for children include appropriate digital storytelling elements, including those aligned with children's moral development. The use of elements in digital storytelling can vary depending on the story narrator's preferences, leading to differences between narrators. However, the consideration of the target audience should be a primary concern for narrators. While this study is preliminary, it provides insights into the digital storytelling elements in YouTube Kids content related to game walkthroughs, which can be further explored in subsequent research on the same specific topic.

Abstract:
This study aims to discuss the sibling rivalry behavior mentioned in the Quran involving Prophet Yusuf and his brothers, its causes, indications, effects and treatment as extracted from the story. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach involving various sources such as journals, books and classic literatures. The result of this study indicated that the causes of siblings encountered in the story of Prophet Yusuf as. were jealousy that builds an assumption of the existence of favoritism between siblings by parents, kids being competitive to get their parent's attention, lack of empathy for the sibling, harmful anger and manipulative attitude. To deal with this behavior, Prophet Yaqub showed an example as a distinctive parent by being patient with the children's behavior, playing fair with all his children, building good communication, and educating the children to always have a good connection with God.

Abstract:
Early exposure to symbolic media, such as pictures, drawings, paintings, photos, and videos, is common in western countries. Modern picture books coexist with electronic storybooks and other digital literature, expanding the environment in which young children develop and learn. Since the advent of new technologies, recommendations for kids' use of these gadgets have been covered in numerous papers. Young children and adults can engage in social interaction through picture books, which creates a wonderful chance for learning and teaching. This paper makes an analysis on children’s digital story book reading behavior. Initially, the features (considered questions) are clustered using k means clustering model. In order to analyze the children’s digital story book reading behavior, the questions are made on different drivers such as (i) Characteristics of story book, (ii) Interaction level and (iii) Child learning ability level. The questions are analyzed based upon the responses obtained from 100 respondents with 46 males and 54 females. Here, the study is done using ANOVA, regression analysis along with MSE, correlation and variance computation. Based upon the clustering outputs, the regression analysis is made on correlation and covariance metrics.

What might you learn by walking in another person’s body? In this work of body swapping philosophical short story fiction, Empathery has perfected the technology to move the consciousness of one person into the body of another. To promote their business, they have partnered with the local school. Carol, the narrator of the story, is surprised when her daughter and son both come home in new bodies as part of a two-day assignment for school. Later, her husband Dave comes home in the body of a co-worker as part of a work team building exercise. Carol is offput by the entire thing, but when Dave decides to take the kids on a weekend fishing trip, she comes up with an excuse to stay home. Over the weekend, she goes to Empathery and gets the body a younger and fitter woman than herself. She finds the entire process disturbing, never leaves the house, and takes the body back as soon as she is able.

Proceedings of the Linguistic Society of America 8, no. 1 (April 27, 2023): 5496. http://dx.doi.org/10.3765/plsa.v8i1.5496.

Abstract:
Two-part s-possessives such as the dad’s kid’s bike admit at least two distinct interpretations: the dad has a kid who has a bike, or the dad has a bike that is made for kids. We propose that the former interpretation derives from recursively embedding DP-possessives, and the latter from representing kid’s bike as a generic NP-possessive. Accordingly, in the right context, two-part s-possessives are fully ambiguous for adults between ‘recursive’ and ‘generic’ readings. These readings can be disambiguated syntactically. Consider the difference in meaning when we insert a relative clause and extract the constituent kid’s bike — the kid’s bike that is the dad’s — versus when we extract the head noun bike — the bike that is the dad’s kid’s. Our story-based experiment demonstrates that 4-7-year-olds (N=79) and adults (N=68) strongly favor (~80%) the generic interpretation of phrases like the kid’s bike that is the dad’s, as the A-over-A constraint blocks the extraction of a DP-possessive out of a recursive DP. Similarly, adults show a strong preference (~80%) for recursive interpretations of phrases like the bike that is the dad’s kid’s, as the A-over-A constraint blocks the extraction of the head noun bike out of the generic NP-possessive kid’s bike. However, 4-5-year-olds admit generic readings of these recursive phrases 54% of the time; it is not until 6 or 7 years that children show an adult-like preference for the recursive interpretation (~80%). These data support two complementary claims. First, that recursive possessives are acquired late on account of their syntax, and second that children, like adults, represent generic possessives under a different syntactic node than regular possessives.

Abstract:
Abstract. Strategies of risk mitigation become effective when citizens facing hazardous phenomena adopt rational behaviours that contribute to the lowering of the risk. This is more likely to occur when endangered communities share a widespread understanding of natural phenomena and their impacts. To reach this goal, educational and outreach materials are often organised around the descriptions of the natural process and its effects. Unfortunately, however, receiving correct information does not automatically grant the adoption of safe behaviours. Our teaching efforts may fail because of pre-existing biases, beliefs, and misconceptions. The identification of these biases is important to plan effective educational campaigns capable of providing the concepts that are needed to actually inform citizens' choices about natural hazards. In this work, we present the results of an unconventional workshop on volcanic risk that we proposed to primary and secondary schools (aged 6–13) in Italy. The workshop is meant to explore the mental models that kids and youngsters have about volcanic eruptions, and it takes the form of a creative exercise. We asked the pupils to write and illustrate a story in four frames, describing the onset and outcome of an imaginary eruption. All stories were then presented to the class and always provided useful hints to spark discussion about volcanic processes and hazards. As a whole, the collected stories provide a multifaceted description of volcanic eruptions and their potential impacts as imagined by the kids. A careful analysis of this material provided several insights useful to improve future outreach material and educational plans. The workshop is simple to reproduce, even remotely, and could easily be extended to different types of hazards. While very simple to organise, this approach grants the secure engagement of most participants and offers a very different perspective on pupils' understanding of natural phenomena.

To analyze this research, the reseacher used a descriptive qualitative method. Using documents as the data, it taken from the book entittled Munch!, Munch!, Munch! Consists of 28 sentences, then each sentence analyzed using shift technique and literal methode. The results are found 19 shift and 12 literal. Based on the results above, it shows that the translator has tried to translate this book seriously. It means she/he tried getting meaning of source language readable and natural. Unfortunately, the translator is still inconsistent in choosing meaning of target language. E.g there are some plural words but only a few of plural that translated in plural too. There is the singular word but transaltor translate it to plural. In my opinion, the writer who involve the translator (only has english knowlede does not has transaltion knowldge) should learn translation materials. It will help her/him to make good translating. It means the translator will find the meaning in source language more readable, natural and accurate. Keywords: Billingual story; Children’s book; Literal; Shift; Translation.

Abstract:
How many four-year-olds do you know who like to stomp, wiggle, and shout as they count to one hundred; go on a shape hunt to find examples of spheres, cubes, and rectangular prisms; help finish a story about a fantastic pasta maker by completing complex patterns; create and compare two towers of connecting cubes to figure out whose is taller and by how much; and use a map to locate objects in a room? Our answer is just about every four- and five-year-old we have observed over the past four years while developing the Big Math for Little Kids prekindergarten and kindergarten mathematics program. We began this process in the late 1990s because we were dissatisfied with the current state of early childhood mathematics. We observed teachers exposing young children to little or no interesting mathematics or instructing them to learn skills and concepts that they already knew (Greenes 1999). This observation contrasted with the wide range of mathematical ideas and skills that the children explored and employed during free play (Ginsburg 1999). We examined the historical record and learned that over the past two centuries, early childhood mathematics has gone through brief periods of richness followed by longer periods during which the mathematical interests and abilities of young children were seriously underestimated (Balfanz 1999). Aided by funding from the National Science Foundation, we decided to try to create an early childhood mathematics program that would build on the diverse mathematical interests and rich, implicit understandings of mathematics that young children hold.

Abstract:
The TaRL approach was developed by Pratham. In his video entitled How to Teach Kids to Read in as Little as 50 Days he says: “All over the world a growing belief is that if you open a school the children will (successfully) learn. But children are not studying, for example in India 97% are enrolled in schools but 50% of children cannot read paragraphs for 2nd graders”. The stages in the implementation of SAC consist of 3 stages: assessment, grouping, and learning according to level/ability. After going through these three stages by carrying out literacy learning for 2 weeks, then a reassessment is carried out. The results of the SAC program assessment can improve children's abilities, namely at the beginner level, letters, words, and paragraphs decreased from 55% to 50%, and at the story level increased from 45% to 50%. The students who progressed to level up reached 30%. The data on increasing students' literacy skills were obtained using the Naturalistic Research method. Grade 1 to grade 6 children are assessed individually. The instrument used is a test. The tests used are letter cards, word cards, paragraph texts, and short story texts equipped with questions about the content of the story.

Abstract:
IntroductionIn response to the spread of COVID-19, many Brazilian therapists faced the challenge of taking their practices online considering legal and ethical issues, besides learning to handle new technologies in a way the therapeutic setting was maintained. The cooperation of the family is fundamental for the creation and maintenance of an adequate therapeutic setting. Children are not sufficiently mature to speak clearly about what bothers them or to talk about how they feel and why, so, drawing, pretend playing, story telling, playing games are the common tools for children’s communication during therapy.ObjectivesEvaluating if online therapy for children can support therapeutic play tools and be effective in a virtual environment preserving the therapeutic setting.MethodsTwo children aged 6 to 11 attended the psychological sessions that were conducted through video calls. The family should provide a silent and private room for those sessions. The children were free to choose the toy they would like to play with and that was available at home such as board games, comic and story books. Mimicry, drawing, an adaptation of the Winnicott Squiggle Game were used, as well as electronic games through screen sharing.ResultsThe emotional conflicts were expressed either through conventional games and play or electronic games. Playing with children online was possible as well as maintaining the therapeutic alliance in order to carry on with the treatment in a proper therapeutic setting.ConclusionsOnline therapy for kids showed to be an effective form of service delivery, under strict measures of social distancing in Brazil.

Abstract:
Parental abandonment, starvation, and exposure to predators are well-known motifs in The Brothers Grimm's "Hansel and Gretel" (1812), which belongs to the ATU 327 tale type. ATU 327 tales pit young, vulnerable protagonists against the cruelty of parents and the brutality of strangers. These stories are usually framed as a celebration of children's craftiness and resourceful use of language. With the central theme of the power of language to persuade, various versions of the fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel" offer multiple ways to engage students as literary scholars and critical thinkers. This paper compares five classic ATU 327 versions with three contemporary retellings: Emma Donoghue's "The Tale of the Cottage" (1997), Megan Engelhardt "A Mouth to Speak the Coming Home" (2013), and Louise Murphy's novel The True Story of Hansel and Gretel (2003). In analyzing how the absence of home, food, and parental love and protection force Hansel and Gretel to become self-reliant in the classic versions, it is evident that contemporary retellings take a much more critical look at what parental neglect may mean for the child protagonists. Discussion of Bruno Bettelheim's interpretation of "Hansel and Gretel" in conjunction with more recent scholarship on this tale type provides perspectives on how students interpret ATU 327 stories in historical and social contexts.

It is also about the struggle among different religious interests to define the legal rights of the citizenry.

Abstract:
In trilingual kids’ story book entitled “Turtle and Dolphin” by Dunkle et al (2012), the English text has both Indonesian and Balinese equivalences. This study aims at revealing the translation procedures applied to the English text especially the activity verbs and also the correlation between the translation procedures and the translation shifts that happen as the result of translations. The English activity verbs as the data in this study are collected using documentation method, the analysis is done by applying descriptive qualitative method and the result is shown using the combination of informal and formal methods. The result shows that literal translation is the most frequent translation procedure applied to translate ST into Indonesian (91%) and Balinese (77%). However, there are several English activity verbs transferred into mental verbs, nouns, and prepositions in the TT. Furthermore, when literal translations are applied the shifts that appear are intra-system shifts (36%). When transpositions are applied, the shifts that appear are class shifts (100%). When modulations are applied the shifts that appear are intra-system shifts (60%). Lastly, when adaptations are applied, the shifts that appear are intra-system shifts (37, 5%).
