A estratégica retórica de “aniquilação” é um meio decisivo para manifestar intolerância religiosa. Segundo Peter L. Berger e Thomas Luckmann, trata-se da tentativa de uma entidade que atribui, em nome da maioria social, um status inferior a uma minoria religiosa. A eficácia dessa técnica depende da capacidade de um agente social de influenciar a imagem pública do fenômeno em questão e de sugerir que a campanha expressa um interesse comum. O sucesso desse processo de construção social da realidade, portanto, deriva de um talento duplo do “construtor”. A primeira faculdade reside na redução da complexidade do respectivo fenômeno a seus supostos elementos cruciais. A segunda aptidão tem a ver com a associação desses elementos a definições negativas pré-estabelecidas para que o “inimigo” apareça como uma mera variação de um fenômeno social já conhecido pela maioria como algo inaceitável. Com o intuito de demonstrar como e por que a estratégica de aniquilação funciona, a presente artigo se refere à campanha de autoridades brasileiras contra o Kardecismo entre 1890 e 1940

Abstract Introduction: The relationship between germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in cancer predisposition genes and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is not well established. The objective of this study is to determine the risks of DCIS and contralateral breast cancer among women with DCIS associated with germline PVs in cancer predisposition genes. Methods: Associations between pathogenic variants in 11 cancer predisposition genes (ATM, BARD1, BRCA1, BRCA2, BRIP1, CDH1, CHEK2, MSH6, PALB2, RAD51C, and RAD51D) and DCIS were determined in case control analyses of a population-based cohort of 3876 women with DCIS and age-matched unaffected women, and in a clinical cohort of 9887 DCIS cases undergoing clinical genetic testing at Ambry Genetics and unaffected reference controls. The incidence of contralateral breast cancer risk in BRCA1, BRCA2, and PALB2 PV carriers with DCIS was also evaluated in a time-to-event analysis. Results: The mean age at diagnosis of DCIS was 50 years in the clinical testing cohort and 59 years in the population-based cohort. The frequency of PVs in 11 predisposition genes among DCIS cases was 6.9% in the clinical testing cohort and 4.9% in the population-based cohort. PVs in ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, MSH6, PALB2, and RAD51D were associated with significantly increased risks (Odds Ratio (OR) >2) of DCIS in the clinical testing cohort whereas only PVs in BRCA1, CHEK2, PALB2, and ATM were associated with significantly increased risks of DCIS in the population-based cohort. The cumulative incidence of contralateral breast cancer among BRCA1, BRCA2, and PALB2 PV carriers with DCIS was 11% in 5-years and 20% in 15-years. Conclusions: This study provides new insights into PVs that predispose to DCIS. In addition, it establishes an increased risk of contralateral breast cancer risk among women with DCIS who are carriers of PVs in BRCA1, BRCA2, or PALB2. The paper provides review of the monograph by Ekaterina Evgrashkina The Semiotic Nature of Semantic Uncertainty in Modern Poetic Discourse (based on German and Russian poetry), published in the Russian language as part of the series NEUERE LYRIK. Berlin: Peter Lang, Internationaler Verlag der Wissenschaften, 2019. 173 s. ISBN 978- 3-631-78193-7. The monograph deals with the main trends of German and Russian poetry of the last decades. The focus is on the phenomenon of hermetic poetry. Modern authors consciously choose writing strategies such as literary improvisation, language play, and various intermedial inclusions. The first chapter ‘The problem of poetic meaning’ provides a theoretical framework for the field of research. It introduces the definitions of discourse, the concepts ‘language games’ (developed by L. Wittgenstein), ‘text / discourse’, ‘text / work’, dialogical dimensions of poetic text. The second chapter ‘Semiotics of modern poetry’ covers the concept ‘mobile semiosis’ (J. Baudrillard) and some others. In hermetic poetic discourse, generation of meaning is based on mobile semiosis, in which the relationship of stability between the signifier and the signified is called into question. In The Role of the Reader, Umberto Eco describes two models of the reader, different strategies for interpreting text. Susan Sontag denies the possibility of final interpretation of a text, she suggests eroticism of art instead of hermeneutics. The third chapter ‘Linguistic installations’ considers various manifestations of poetic Hermeticism in modern poetry, the experience of concrete and visual poetry in German: Timm Ulrichs (1940), Klaus Peter Dencker (1941), Barbara Köhler (1959), Werner Herbst (1943–2008), Anatol Knotek (1977), Herta Müller (1953). The final chapter ‘The self-reflexive discourse’ deals with the trend of modern poetry towards free verse and construction of new complex poetic forms. The process of occasional word formation is shown in the lyrical texts by German poets Thomas Kling (1957–2005), Lutz Seiler (1963), Konstantin Ames (1979), Lioba Happel (1957), Thomas Böhme (1955), and by Russian authors Polina Andrukovich (1969), Alexander Ulanov (1963), Dmitry Vorobyov (1979). In poetic discourse, the constitution of the poetic subject correlates with the introduction of new elements of culture into the poetic text. Such innovations do not lead to a mechanical increment of the elementary meaning, but to a structural transformation of the whole picture. The reviewed monograph is significant in that it provides theoretical understanding of individual poetic practices and the analysis of specific empirical material – the latest German and Russian poetry.

Abstract Duncan Sandys lobbied for Austin’s section to move back to central London, and on 12 November 1943 the section was renamed the Theatre Intelligence Section [TIS] and given the top floor of Peter Robinson’s department store in Oxford Circus. Here Austin was primarily occupied with processing data from the French Resistance, providing briefing material for commando raids, and considering the possibility of a landing in Norway. He was most concerned, however, with the Arromanches area of the French coast. This had already been chosen as one of the landing sites for D-Day, but there was a serious worry that the beach might rest on a bed of soft peat that would bog down vehicles. Every effort was made to discover whether this was a serious problem, and eventually it was decided that swimmers must be sent to reconnoitre the beach. Austin’s role in this operation is described in detail.

Abstract Peter Dennis N[itchell was born on 29 September 192() in a two-story semi-detached house at H) Rustic Avenue in the middle-class London suburb of Mitcham, Surrey. His fother, Christopher Gibbs Mitchell, was 31 and his mother, Kate Beatrice Dorothy (nee Taplin) Mitchell, was 27. They had married in 1914 just before World War l broke out An older son, Christopher John (Bill) Mitchell, was born in 1916.The Mitchell family was from DorSE>t, but it is not dear how many generations may have lived there or what occupation they followed. Family lore was that they were descended from seventeenth-century French Huguenot immigrants named Nfichelle and the name had beenanglicized to Mitchell. Although some of the family suspect that a few of their ancestors were engaged in smuggling,l Peter Mitchell liked to think that at least some of his forebears had been pirates in the English Channel.2 What is certain is that Peter Mitchell’s grandfather, Christopher Mitchell, was trained as a stone mason but rose to be manager of a quarry in Portland, the Portland Stone Works. Christopher Mitchell was ambitious and an able businessman whose investments included the firm Minimax, which made fire extinguishers and of which he later became director. Probably in the 188ns he moved to Peckham, London, and became a clerk of works employed by the London County Council. His quMrying expertise led to his forming a pMtnership with Matthew Ascot Rowe, who had made his fortune in the United States. The firm Rowe and Mitchell brought granite from quarries in Alderney to London to make road surfacing for the various London boroughs. Christopher Mitchell married Margaret Way of Weymouth and had two sons, Christopher Gibbs Mitchell, born in 1889, and Godfrey Way Mitchell, born in 1891.

On the basis of printed materials in Russian, part of the Merezhkovskys’ private library in Paris, a few biographical facts about Zinaida Gippius are specified, alongside dating the foundation of the aforementioned library. Thus, the article contributes to the study of the Russian-language part of D.S. Merezhkovsky and Z.N. Gippius’ Paris library. Of particular value to researchers of Russia abroad as a special phenomenon and Gippius’ works of the émigré period are her notes on the margins, allowing to reconstruct her reflection of certain literary facts. The article also restores the history of some entries in the Merezhkovskys’ home library. The study of library entries allows to clarify and establish the sources Gippius used for a short story about the Men-of-God sect He Has Descended (1907), the articles Bread of Life (1901) and Infatuation (1904) as well as the poems On Faith and Naked Thoughts (1902). On the basis of D.S. Merezhkovsky’s notes important additions to the creative history and interpretation of his novel Peter and Alexis from the Christ and the Antichrist trilogy, as well as the study L. Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, are made. The final conclusion reflects the particular importance of the Merezhkovskys’ library in Paris, its composition and the exact time of its formation for the study of Gippius’ works, considering a small number of her own testimonies about her creative process.
