Abstract:

Abstract:
Introduction: Women make up an increasing portion of the physician workforce in anesthesia, but they are consistently under-represented in academic anesthesiology and leadership positions. The objective of this study is to provide a current update on the role of women in anesthesiology in Belgrade, Serbia. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted during September and October 2013 amongst anesthesiologists at ten tertiary health care institutions in Belgrade. The study population was 272 anesthesiologists. Participants' consent and ethical approval were obtained. The questionnaire captured basic sociodemographic and work-related characteristic information: age, sex, level of academic and professional postgraduate education, the managerial position of the section or department. Sociodemographic characteristics were tested in relation to sex by Pearson's chi-squared test. Results: The response rate was 76.2%. Over two-thirds (70.7%) of respondents were women. One-third of female participants (34.5%) and 23.3% of male participants had obtained additional academic achievements; 35.2% of female participants and 40.0 % of male participants had been in managerial positions. Statistically significant gender discrepancies in the additional academic education and upper-rank leadership positions were not detected. Conclusion: Female anesthesiologists in Serbia have achieved parity with men in the highest academic ranks and leadership positions. These women may play an important role in mentoring future generations of female physicians and inspiring them to achieve their professional goals.

Abstract:

Abstract:

In a study involving 100 college subjects, blonds had a very positive stereotype. Blond females were seen as beautiful, pleasant, and extremely feminine. Blond males were seen as strong, active, pleasant, successful, and good-looking. Redheaded females were seen as unattractive, but as competent and professional. Redheaded males had a surprisingly negative stereotype. They were seen as very unattractive, less successful, and rather effeminate. Hair-color stereotypes seem to be very long lasting and robust.

Abstract:
How do healthcare professionals classify or characterize human beings: how do they identify and define a patient or in the case of this study a dead person? Healthcare professionals are fairly regularly exposed to human beings dying. Part of their duty is to postpone death but, death being inevitable, they regularly lose the fight. This study aims to determine how healthcare professionals classify human beings by asking only 1 question, and allowing respondents to provide 5 answers of their own making (“You are exposed to a dead person, victim of a car accident. Apart from name and surname, what are the 5 questions you would ask?”). Thereby, it is hoped to avoid both conflicts with responsibilities of healthcare professionals and predetermining the answers. As described above, one self-administered open question related to a very short story had to be answered anonymously and was asked by e-mail. As a result of the analysis, a number of stereotype question sets were obtained through the answers of the respondents. The stereotype questions and derived thought concepts provide an insight into the awareness and (prioritized) values of healthcare professionals in Turkey. In the replies, questions related to the personal background of the dead (such as age, marital status, and parenthood) had the highest frequency, while questions of professional relevance followed with medium frequency. A question relating to the consent of the deceased to organ donation was almost never asked. It is suggested that any potential educational material for healthcare personnel should be reviewed in order to increase awareness of relevant issues.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the intersection of professional values and career roles in accountants’ presentations of their professional identity, in the face of enduring stereotyping of the accounting role. Design/methodology/approach This study presents a qualitative investigation of accountants’ construction of their professional identities and imagery using a Goffmanian dramaturgical perspective. Viewing professional identity construction as a presentational matter of impression management, the investigation employs a reflexive photo-interviewing methodology. Findings Accountants use a variety of workplace dramatisation, idealisation and mystification strategies inside and outside the workplace to counter the traditional accounting stereotype. They also attempt to develop a professional identity that is a subset of their overall life values. Research limitations/implications Their professional orientation is found to embrace role reconstruction and revised image mystification while not necessarily aiming for upward professional mobility. This has implications for understanding the career trajectories of contemporary accountants with associated implications for continuing professional development and education. Originality/value The paper focusses on professional role, identity, values and image at the individual accountant level, while most prior research has focussed upon these issues at the macro association-wide level. In offering the first use of reflexive photo-interviewing method in the accounting research literature, it brings the prospect of having elicited different and possibly more reflective observations, reflections and understandings from actors not otherwise possible from more conventional methods.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of a research related to the existence of stereotypes in connection with sexual violence among the general population of Serbia, as well as among the students of the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies in Belgrade (UCIPS). Bearing in mind that comparative studies testify to a high level the presence of stereotypes related to sexual violence, the researchers have attempted to establish whether there are any differences in understanding this issue among the above-mentioned categories of respondents, as some of them are prospective police officers, who will likely be in contact with the victims of sexual violence given the nature of their job. The focus was also on the differences in the manner of obtaining information about this phenomenon. The study encompassed a total of 310 respondents, out of whom 62 were the students of the UCIPS and 61 the students of other universities, whereas all others were above the student age. The data were collected by filling in a questionnaire and analysing responses by the use of descriptive statistics and correlation. The results suggest that the information from the Internet is a principal source of obtaining information about sexual violence except among the UCIPS students, who primarily learn about such phenomena from professional literature. The initial thesis on the absence of significant differences related to rape stereotypes among the UCIPS students and the students of other universities, irrespective of their previous professional education, has been confirmed, which indicates the need for narrowly targeted expert education of prospective police officers in respect of issues of sexual violence.

Abstract:
This dissertation deals with the psychology profession with a focus on the interprofessional network relationships and competencies. These topics are examined in the light of important and well-established psychological theoretic frameworks and constructs: the Stereotype Content Model (SCM, Fiske, Cuddy, Glick, & Xu,2002) and the Social Identity Theory (SIT, Tajfel and Turner,1979, Tajfel,1981). The present work aims to integrate different methods. Although the Stereotype Content Model and the SIT have been developed independently, they have led to complementary results that could contribute to a better understanding of stereotypes. The context and the concept of malleability have a key role and they are a bridge between the SCM and SIT (Rijswik and Ellemers,2002; Haslam, Oakes, Turner, & McGarty,1995). The common thread of this work is the attempt to integrate and to mix different perspectives. The first study investigates how the SCM dimensions (warmth and competence) are used in the evaluation of different professional target by students (Study 1, N = 480, Study 2, N = 172). Study 3 (N = 134) focuses on the psychologist profession in the health care setting, with particular interest on self-presentation strategies of psychology students. An experimental manipulation in a hiring context is used (manipulation of competition and professional group to compare with). Quantitative (with a 8 questionnaire) and qualitative (word associations and open questions) data have been collected and analyzed. Finally, the study 4 focuses on the main topics raised in previous studies (competence, competition and interaction with other professionals) in a deeply way using interviews. This study doesn’t involve students but 18 professional psychologists with different levels of experience and with a work experience in the social and health care setting and in a team. The results show the importance of the inter-professional relationship: a confusion and an overlap with other professionals (ie. educators) and a collaboration with the social worker emerge, while there is also a complex and often conflicted relationship with the doctor. Psychologist use positive differentiation in-group strategies in the comparison with doctor. The results show also that fitting strategy and flexibility are important for the psychology profession (ie. warmth and competence could be used in a malleable and strategic way) and they have a key role in order to perform in different settings, that is typical of the profession. The results are discussed highlighting the central bond with training and development, which appear very important for professionals but in the same time seem to be distant, poorly connected and not always helping in work’s difficulties for the way they are structured in the current context.

Abstract:

This paper aims to study the characteristics associated with the Professional Accountant, the existence of a stereotype associated with these professionals, the ethical perception transmitted to the public and in what base these perceptions were created and developed. In addition to this paper, religion's role in professional ethic was also studied with the purpose of understanding in what way religious practices could influence ethical decisions. Data gathered for this study was obtained by a paper format survey delivered to 1st and 2nd year graduate students of Lisbon School of Economics & Management. With this paper, it was possible to conclude that regarding perception conditioning factors I can highlight the importance of high school accounting background and the interest on pursuing an accounting career. The information sources that contributed the most in this sample for perception differences are the existence of a family member in the accounting area and the Internet.

Abstract:
This paper aims to analyze the perception of the ethical behavior of the professional accountant, in the view of master students. The stereotype is also studied from a general point of view, through the analysis of the perception of physical and professional characteristics. Thus, it's studied how this perception changes according to some characteristics of the inquiries. Either currently working in accounting, having interest in exercise the profession, and have had contact with ethics and deontology materials were considered the most important variables in this study that can influence these perceptions. To pursue this investigation, an online questionnaire was conducted to collect the opinions of 152 master students. Subsequently, the data were grouped using the factor analysis and then analyzed using a parametric test for equality of means. In fact, the conclusions suggest that there is an influence of working in accounting or having interest in exercise the profession in the perception of the accountants' ethical behavior, in the view of the master's students. This influence is also verified for other characteristics. Additionally, although the perception of ethical behavior is not influenced by contact with ethics and deontology materials, this contact improves that perception for students who work in accounting or have interest in exercise the profession, although it deteriorates for students who don't work in accounting. Being an accounting student or have attended an accounting subject in university also influence the perception of students.

Abstract:
When the accounting profession first started, it was practically a male profession. Thus, there was the image of an accountant as a conservative, monotonous individual, attentive to detail and especially associated to male individuals. Women had to fight a lot and overcome many obstacles to get into this profession. Women are now in majority in the profession of certified accountants, but although obstacles in the past have been overcome or minimized, inequalities still exist, affecting the career progression of women accountants. Incidentally, the marginalization of female accountants and the gendered nature of the profession is already investigated in the accounting literature. With this study, it is intended to verify the perception that certified accountants have about the stereotype of the profession and the associated stereotype as professionals, verifying if this perception is influenced by the admission of women in the profession, as well as to understand which are the main difficulties faced by women in the labor market, analyzing the main obstacles that may hinder the career progression of women accountants. To achieve these objectives, eleven semi-structured interviews were conducted with certified male and female accountants, currently practicing the profession. In this sense, it was concluded that the perception of accounting and accountants is not changed with the admission of women in the profession. Regarding the difficulties experienced, women highlight, above all, maternity and homework as factors that make it difficult for them to reconcile their professional and personal lives, emphasizing that this may hinder their career progression. The internship was carried out at the company Número Neiva, Lda, an accounting office based in Darque, Viana do Castelo, whose activity encompasses the branches of accounting, insurance, legal aid and investment projects. The internship was of great importance in my learning process, as it allowed me to acquire knowledge and skills for the development of the profession of Certified Accountant, as well as allowing me to apply the knowledge acquired in the Master of Accounting.

Abstract:
This research study was motivated by a hypothesis, generated on the basis of formal and informal observations, personal and professional experiences, discussions with prospective teachers and a pilot study conducted by this author; that pre-service teachers have a high level of mathematics anxiety and negative attitudes about mathematics. The primary purpose of this research was to examine the relationship between mathematics anxiety and pre-service teachers. The secondary purposes of this study were to examine the relationship between anxiety and performance and to examine the relationship between math anxiety, test anxiety, and stereotype threat. A quantitative experimental research design was used to investigate the research questions. The population consisted of prospective teachers at colleges and universities in Louisiana. The sets of data are mathematics anxiety of prospective teachers, a test anxiety inventory and a mathematics performance task. A personal data questionnaire was used to gather demographic information and attitudinal information about the participants. The implications of this study for elementary teacher education programs point to increased attention on the mathematics anxiety of pre-service teachers. This process is two-fold. One, it is recommended that pre-service teachers be made aware of their mathematics anxiety level and their attitudes about mathematics and two, it is recommended that teacher education programs acknowledge and address the importance of these affective variables and their role in pedagogy.

However, it is common in nature to the formation and performance of bad professionals, who, due to their inconsistent actions or omissions, cause damage, whether material or moral, in the face of claims to be reached by their contractors, forming in the popular imagination a pejorative stereotype regarding the performance. from the lawyer. However, it is part of this area, a very small percentage that denigrate the image of valuable operators of the law. Thus, the Civil Liability of the Lawyer before the Theory of the Loss of a Chance becomes possible, because through misery, lack of knowledge, among others, according to the Brazilian Bar Association, lead the professional services contractor. attorneys to suffer direct or indirect damages, as they see the possibility of obtaining any economic advantage or avoid an injury, given the lost chance. Thus, even if the damage is uncertain, but if concrete probabilities are present, it should be compensated, not for the unwanted end result, but for the mere loss of the chance of achieving it.

Abstract:
Physical conditions, such as body size, physical deformity, and deafness, elicit stigma, which has emotional, social, and health consequences. Researchers have consistently found that contact with a stigmatized individual can be one of the most powerful tools for dismantling this stigma. Specifically, the contact hypothesis argues that a lack of knowledge about stigmatized others makes it easier to stereotype and discriminate against them. Although the contact hypothesis has been supported in research, this chapter argues that network science offers relevant theory and research that may be instructive for further understanding and contextualizing the contact hypothesis. This chapter suggests that the structure and content of social networks affect stigmatizing attitudes and provide a theoretical basis to examine how individuals who are routinely in “contact” with stigmatized persons (e.g., family members, co-workers, and health professionals) may influence stigma. Finally, the chapter discusses the importance of these insights for anti-stigma campaigns.

Abstract:
Two key arguments for the value of freedom are that freedom contributes to desire satisfaction and to personal responsibility. But what if we do not know about our freedoms? Or if we do not acknowledge each other’s freedoms? This book shows that what is really of value are the ideals of known freedom and acknowledged freedom. The book demonstrates the importance of these two ideals in many contexts, including neuromarketing, skilled work, discrimination, education, environments with stereotype threats, informed consent, consumer protection, socially responsible investing, climate-related financial disclosure, law, professional oaths, freedom of speech, and privacy. To argue that known freedom is crucial to satisfy our desires and assume responsibility, the book combines work in psychology on choice with work in philosophy on the value of knowledge. It is shown that known freedom is compromised when salespeople deploy consumer obfuscation or when news shows use contextual framing techniques to steer the way their audiences will process the information. And it is shown how carefully developed consumer protection and information disclosure regulation can foster known freedom. Using insights from economics and ethics, the book argues that acknowledged freedom offers protection to our freedoms. It makes our freedoms more stable. Acknowledged freedom embodies an ideal of mutual recognition that underlies informed consent and the ethics of communication, and can also contribute to a flourishing corporate culture. Most books discuss either freedom or knowledge. This unique book shows that when we think about the value of freedom, we should think about the value of knowledge too.

Abstract:
The text is a reflection of a well-researched professional publication by Tomáš Rataj České země ve stínu půlměsíce (Czech Lands in the Shadow of the Crescent, 2002). After a multilateral acknowledgement of the book, the author fills in relevant items written by some of the staff of the Faculty of Arts MU, some of which were published only after the publication of Rataj’s work. Additionally, she refines, with reference to the study of Jan Kumpera (1994), the existence of a translation of the Bible into Turkish initiated by Comenius, namely its printing in the 19th century. At the end, the author mentions her personal teaching activities on the topic in the context of the honoured person of Jan Zouhar’s personality as a pedagogical ideal.

Abstract:
Previous research on aged-based stereotypes in the workforce has often focused on stereotypes held regarding older workers. However, the nature of stereotypes of younger employees and the labels that help reinforce negative perceptions have not been fully explored. The author addresses this gap through a qualitative analysis of two samples: a group of young professionals relatively new to the workforce and a group of more mature professionals with a breadth of experience. This chapter explores three areas: (1) the labels “Millennial,” “Generation Y,” and “Young Professional” refer to younger employees in often negative ways; (2) these labels reinforce stereotypes which can help perpetuate stereotype threat, decreased performance, a negative organizational culture, and a breakdown in interactions and learning among other negative outcomes; and (3) employees can spend a significant amount of time and energy focusing on these labels to minimize their negative impacts.

Abstract:
Asian/American educators are often reified as the model minority and are regarded as smart, quiet, and reserved, and willing to conform to the dominant discourse and culture (Fairclough, 2001; Ramanathan, 2006). When they do not mold to this ascribed role, they can be avoided, found peculiar, and isolated (Delgado & Stefancic, 2001). This chapter examines the narratives of three Asian/American teachers in the Midwestern United States. These narratives are instructive in individual and collective racial identity development, as well as the cultural formation of emerging definitions of what it means to be an Asian/American professional in U.S. public schools.

Abstract:
Asian Americans have been conceptualized as a model minority for their apparent success in socioeconomic, academic, and professional settings, where other minorities have struggled. However, studies have suggested that this image is only a popularized stereotype, with academic underachievement, poverty, mental health issues, and cultural struggle prevalent amongst different Asian American communities. This chapter is a meta-analysis of studies on the model minority narrative, its influence on the social perception of Asian Americans, and its effect on shaping self-identity for Asian Americans themselves. This chapter also discusses the role the narrative plays in hindering racial parity and inter-race relations through furthering the marginalization of minority groups, silencing the voices of social change while maintaining the imbalance of status and power that currently exists in the United States.

Abstract:
This chapter traces the figure of the female or ‘Lady Interviewer’ across the interwar period. A target of satire in the media, the Lady Interviewer was regularly conceived as a garrulous, gossiping figure. Yet she also had her real-life counterparts: women who used this stereotype to break into the print and broadcast media industries in increasing numbers, and who in turn supported the expansion of print media oriented towards women’s professional and social interests. Increasingly close associations between female journalists and Hollywood fan magazines in the 1920s and 1930s, would however, see a decline in the reputation of both the Lady Interviewer and her female readers. This chapter explores the constructions of specific reading communities forged through interviewing in popular media.

Abstract:
Identity refers to a sense of self. It is a complex notion that influences an individual's values, attitudes, and behaviors and can change over an individual's life span. In organizational settings, identity is a powerful force driving employees' motivations, decisions, and actions. Organizations recognize that employees have identities arising from personal and private parts of their lives. At the same time, organizations encourage their employees to develop a (strong) sense of identity as organizational members. Workplaces are thus intriguing environments in which individuals are required to manage and negotiate various identities, both social (personal) and organizational. In this chapter, the authors discuss theories that explain how individuals develop a sense of identity. They then discuss identities that are relevant to Asian American women in work environments. The social identities pertinent in this context include ethnic and racial identities and the model minority stereotype. Work identities, in contrast, include professional and organizational identities.

Abstract:
In their work, the authors reveal the applied role of the Latin language as an important propaedeutic discipline in the formation of professional ethical principles and moral qualities among students of the medical university, which they need both in the learning process and in future medical activity. The special influence of humanitarian comments on professional vocabulary and aphorisms of medical and general cultural content on the comprehensive development of students' personality is also considered. Significant aspects of this influence are orientation to humanistic values and self-development, increasing the level of general culture and education, understanding the essence and meaning of concepts, showing interest in science and language learning, improving oral speech skills and the ability to express their thoughts competently and intelligently, improving perception and memory training. In this paper, it is noted that the stereotype of the Latin language as an insignificant discipline, where its role is reduced only to the training of terminologically competent specialists, has long been outdated. The authors tried to present the Latin language not only as a narrow-profile subject for future physicians, but as the language of Antiquity and its great heritage, as the language spoken and written by famous philosophers, orators, poets and doctors, as a language that has provided and still provides cultural and spiritual influence on the personal formation of people. The conclusions obtained in the course of the work are of interest to the teaching staff of the Latin Language Department at the Medical University and medical students.

Abstract:
Topicality of the research is that coaching, in general, and life coaching, particular, becomes more and more popular in the market of “helping services”. Coaching includes wide range of technics and sometimes is promoted as a unique pill that can help in solving any type of problems or situations. For some part of the society (professionals and service users) it becomes hard to identify the differences and similarities between life coaching and career counselling –in what cases what type of service might be needed and why. The aim of the study was to identify theoretical and practical differences between career counseling and life coaching. Methodology includes the following steps –theoretical research with different sources available on the topic and asmall qualitative research where 4 professionals (two coaches and two career counsellors) were asked to describe their job and to point out their opinion and attitude towards the opposite part. The questions are covering their opinion on the differences and similarities between professions from professionals point and from client perspective, their opinion about education and job possibilities. The results show that at some point professionals from both parts are stereotypic about each other. Theoretical research shows that life coaching is considered to be a wider service for different situations, career counselling is a service for topics containing professional development and employment. Both services use similar methods, but coaching works only with client’s thoughts and ideas without providing them external ideas and guidance.
