Structural optimization subject to dynamic loading is a challenging problem in many aspects, starting with the large number of constraints that must be respected at all instants of time. Furthermore, the computational cost to evaluate the gradients of these constraints is significantly high and requires a large storage space. In the literature, some methods reduce the number of constraints evaluating at selected instants of time, such as the worst case. Alternatively, a single equivalent functional is constructed to eliminate the time dependence by integrating the violated constraints over time. In this work, the Equivalent Static Load (ESL) method is used, in which the original dynamic problem is reduced into a number of static linear optimization problems with multiple load cases. An attractive feature of this method is the possibility of solving non-linear problems, avoiding the high cost due to repeated structural analyzes and constraint calculations. Classical problems of plane trusses subjected to dynamic loads are solved using the ESL method. The function to be minimized is the truss mass, which is subjected to stress and displacement constraints, where the design variables are the cross-sectional areas of the members. In addition, an interface using ANSYS and MATLAB was developed for a modular approach, in which finite element analysis and optimization can be performed separately. This process makes possible the optimization of structures that present non-linear behavior from the use of most structural analysis software packages available on the market.

Full textContinental Automotive Systems is a German company that develops control systems for different applications in cars. A control system for electrically powered lift gates that are opened or closed on the driver’s command is one of the products developed. The drive system itself is composed of a spindle that is driven by a DC-motor over a gear and a spring. When developing the control system it is convenient to use a simulation model instead of having to implement it on the system every time. The simulation analytically describes how the system is behaving.
In this thesis a simulation model of a drive system and a lift gate is developed and evaluated. The model parameters are estimated using System Identification Toolbox in Matlab.

Full textIn this research paper, it evaluates the benefits achievable from static testing framework by analyzing and transforming the JUnit3.8 source code and static execution of transformed code. Static structure enables us to analyze the code statically during creation and execution of test cases. The concept of research is by now well established in static analysis and testing development. The research approach is also increasingly affecting the static testing process and such research oriented work has proved particularly valuable for those of us who want to understand the reflective behavior of JUnit3.8 Framework.
JUnit3.8 Framework uses Java Reflection API to invoke core functionality (test cases creation and execution) dynamically. However, Java Reflection API allows developers to access and modify structure and behavior of a program. Reflection provides flexible solution for creating test cases and controlling the execution of test cases. Java reflection helps to encapsulate test cases in a single object representing the test suite. It also helps to associate each test method with a test object. Where reflection is a powerful tool to perform potential operations, on the other hand, it limits static analysis. Static analysis tools often cannot work effectively with reflection.
In order to avoid the reflection, Static Testing Framework provides a static platform to analyze the JUnit3.8 source code and transform it into non-reflective version that emulates the dynamic behavior of JUnit3.8. The transformed source code has possible leverage to replace reflection with static code and does same things in an execution environment of Static Testing Framework that reflection does in JUnit3.8. More besides, the transformed code also enables execution environment of Static Testing Framework to run test methods statically. In order to measure the degree of efficiency, the implemented tool is evaluated. The evaluation of Static Testing Framework draws results for different Java projects and these statistical data is compared with JUnit3.8 results to measure the effectiveness of Static Testing Framework. As a result of evaluation, STF can be used for static creation and execution of test cases up to JUnit3.8 where test cases are not creating within a test class and where real definition of constructors is not required. These problems can be dealt as future work by introducing a middle layer to execute test fixtures for each test method and by generating test classes as per real definition of constructors.

Full textA discrete dynamic approach (DDM) is developed in the context of beam mechanics to calculate the dispersion characteristics of periodic structures. Subsequently, based on this dynamical beam formulation, we calculate the dispersion characteristics of one-dimensional and two-dimensional periodic media. A sufficiently high order development of the forces and moments of the structural elements is necessary to accurately describe the propagation modes of higher order. These results show that the calculations of the dispersion characteristics of structural systems can be approached with good accuracy by the dynamics of the discrete elements. Besides, non-classical behaviors can be captured not only by higher order expansion but also by higher gradient formulations. To that scope, we develop a higher gradient dynamic homogenization method with micro-inertia effects. Using this formulation, we compute the macroscopic constitutive parameters up to the second gradient, using two distinct approaches, namely Hamilton’s principle and a total internal energy formulation. We analyze the sensitivity of the second gradient constitutive terms on the inner material and geometric parameters for the case of composite materials made of a periodic, layered microstructure. Moreover, we show that the formulations based on the total internal energy taking into account higher order gradient terms give the best description of wave propagation through the composite. We analyze the higher order and micro-inertia contributions on the mechanical behavior of composite structures by calculating the effective static and dynamic properties of composite beams using a higher order dynamic homogenization method. We compute the effective longitudinal static response with higher order gradient, by quantifying the relative difference compared to the classical formulation of Cauchy type, which is based on the first gradient of displacement. We then analyze the propagation properties of longitudinal waves in terms of the natural frequency of composite structural elements, taking into account the contribution of micro-inertia. The internal length plays a crucial role in the contributions of micro-inertia, which is particularly significant for low internal length values, therefore for a wide range of materials used in structural engineering. The developed method shows an important size effect for the higher gradients, and to remove these effects correction terms have been incorporated which are related to the quadratic moment of inertia. We analyze in this context the influence of the correction terms on the static and dynamic behavior of composites with a central inclusion

Full textThe improvement of comfort in the automotive industry is a major challenge for car manufacturers and suppliers. At the heart of these concerns is the base seat system, major interface between the occupant and the vehicle vibration environment. This dissertation deals with the study of the main car seat sub-component: polyurethane foam.A wide range of polyurethane foam samples have been molded for a design of experiments according to selected process parameters. Several experimental protocols were employed to determine their physical properties, mechanical quasi-static and dynamic characteristics. A new protocol and an innovative device have been designed to characterize the foam sample submitted to vibrations. Statistical and principal components analysis helped to highlight existing correlations between those properties.A rheological model, adapted to the application in an industrial context, was carried out. For this purpose, a comparative study of the performance of different models applied to various polyurethane foam samples was conducted. To extrapolate the results on foam samples to a complete seat, additional tests have been performed with different formulations in both quasi-static and dynamic studies. The analysis of process parameters, physical properties and quasi-static and dynamic behaviors allowed highlighting of the links between these different features. Thus, it becomes possible to design a foam pad with predicted properties and minimize the time to design a car seat

Full textThis thesis comprises three essays on identification and estimation problems in bivariate survival models with individual and common frailties. The first essay proposes a model to capture the mortality dependence of the two spouses in a couple. It allows to disentangle two types of dependencies : the broken heart syndrome and the dependence induced by common risk factors. An analysis of their respective effects on joint insurance premia is also proposed. The second essay shows that, under reasonable model specifications that take into account the longevity effect, we can identify the joint distribution of the long-term care and mortality risks from the observation of cohort mortality data only. A numerical application to the French population data is proposed. The third essay conducts an analysis of the tail of the joint distribution for general bivariate survival models with proportional frailty. We show that under appropriate assumptions, the distribution of the joint residual lifetimes converges to a limit distribution, upon normalization. This can be used to analyze the mortality and long-term care risks at advanced ages. In parallel, the heterogeneity distribution among survivors converges also to a semi-parametric limit distribution. Properties of the limit distributions, their identifiability from the data, as well as their implications are discussed

Full textThe electric microfield distributions (EMDs) and its tails have been studied for electron one-component plasma (OCP), electron-positron, hydrogen and single-ionized alkali two-component plasmas (TCP) in a frame of different pseudopotential models (PM) and compared with Molecular Dynamics (MD) and Monte-Carlo simulations as well as with experiments. The theoretical methods used for calculation of EMDs are a coupling-parameter integration technique (CPIT) developed by C. A. Iglesias for OCP and the generalized CPIT proposed by J. Ortner et al. for TCP. We studied the EMDs in a frame of the screened Kelbg, Deutsch, Hellmann-Gurskii-Krasko (HGK) PMs which take into account quantum-mechanical, screening effects and the ion shell structure (HGK) due to the Pauli exclusion principle. The screening effects were introduced on a base of Bogoljubov-Born-Green-Kirkwood-Yvon method. We used the screened HGK pseudopotential in the Debye approximation as well as in a moderately coupled plasma approximation. The influence of the plasma coupling parameter on the EMD along with the ion shell structure was investigated. We determined different types of asymptotic behaviour of EMD tails in dependence on the plasma type, parameters and radiator. Comparison of a synthetic Li2+ Lyman spectrum as well as comparison of a synthetic Li II 548 nm line with experimental data allows us to conclude that the EMD, obtained on a base of the CPIT method for OCP within the HGK PM and MD, provides a good agreement with the experiment. We have calculated the partial and charge-charge static structure factors (SSF) for alkali and Be2+ plasmas using the method described by G. Gregori et al.. We have calculated the dynamic structure factors (DSF) for alkali plasmas using the method of moments developed by V. M. Adamyan et al. In both methods the screened HGK pseudopotential has been used.
