Abstract:
La Résonance Quadrupolaire Nucléaire (RQN) est une technique spectroscopique appliquée à l’état solide et qui ne nécessite aucun champ magnétique statique contrairement à la Résonance Magnétique Nucléaire (RMN). Elle permet de détecter, les molécules qui contiennent un noyau quadrupolaire (tel que l'azote-14). La RQN de l’azote-14 suscite un intérêt particulier car elle s'avère utile dans la détection de drogues et d’explosifs, qui contiennent, pour la plupart, des molécules azotées. Cette thèse porte en premier lieu sur l’amélioration de la qualité spectrale en résonance quadrupolaire (RQN) de l’azote-14. Ainsi, nous nous sommes préoccupés des signaux transitoires (ringing) qui suivent l’impulsion radiofréquence (rf) et qui masquent en partie le signal RQN. Nous avons d’abord montré, par une étude théorique et expérimentale, que les mesures à basse puissance (< 3Watts) étaient possibles, ce qui nous a permis de diminuer l’amplitude du ringing. De plus, grâce à ce mode de fonctionnement (basse puissance), nous avons pu proposer un circuit original de commutation du facteur de qualité (Q-switch) basé sur un commutateur rf CMOS et qui a permis de diminuer la durée du ringing. La seconde partie traite de l’influence d’un champ magnétique statique faible amplitude et des divers paramètres expérimentaux en RQN de l’azote-14. Dans le cas où le tenseur de gradient de champ électrique est de symétrie axiale, nous avons observé des élargissements, voire des doublets Zeeman. En revanche, dans le cas général (absence de symetrie), nous avons mis en évidence la possibilité définir le tenseur de gradient de champ électrique à partir de la forme de raie d’une seule transition au lieu de deux transitions (sans champ magnétique statique). Ce dernier résultat pourrait permettre de diminuer de moitié le temps nécessaire à la caractérisation d’une nouvelle molécule azotée
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a solid-state spectroscopic technique which doesn't require a static magnetic field in contrast to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). It is used to detect molecules containing quadrupole nuclei (such as nitrogen-14). Nitrogen-14 quadrupole resonance is of particular interest because it is useful in the detection of drugs and explosives, which contain mostly of nitrogen molecules. In this thesis we have primarily focused on improving the spectral quality in nitrogen-14 quadrupole resonance (NQR) . Thus, we were concerned with the transient signals ( ringing ) following the radiofrequency (rf) pulse and which partly overwhelm the NQR signal. First, we demonstrated by theoretical and experimental study that low power measurements (< 3Watts ) were possible, allowing us to reduce the ringing amplitude. In addition, through this mode ( low power ), we have proposed an original quality factor switching circuit (Q -switch ) based on rf CMOS switch and which has reduced the ringing duration. The second part deals with the effect of a weak static magnetic field and various experimental parameters in nitrogen-14 quadrupole resonance. In the case of an axially symmetric electric field gradient tensor, we observed broadening or Zeeman doublets. By contrast, in the general case (no symmetry), we demonstrated the possibility to define the electric field gradient tensor from the line shape of a single transition instead of two transitions ( without static magnetic field ). This result reduces by half the time required for the characterization of a new nitrogen molecule

Resumo: Este trabalho dedica-se ao estudo do problema de controle robusto envolvendo custo H∞ para sistemas lineares chaveados no tempo contínuo, sujeitos à saturação no atuador e com incertezas politópicas, considerando leis de chaveamento e controladores chaveados dependentes da saída da planta. Os métodos propostos oferecem novas condições baseadas em Desigualdades Matriciais Lineares (LMIs - do inglês, Linear Matrix Inequalities) para o projeto de controladores chaveados utilizando funções de Lyapunov dependentes de parâmetros. O método é baseado em um resultado recentemente introduzido na literatura para o projeto de controle H∞ de saída o qual evita igualdades matriciais lineares (LMEs - do inglês, Linear Matrix Equalities) e a necessidade de impor restrições nas matrizes de saída do sistema, isto é, as matrizes de saída do sistema podem ser de posto linha incompleto. Com o objetivo de estender estes resultados, a restrição de saturação no atuador é estudada. Análises teóricas e resultados de simulações mostram que os novos procedimentos são menos conservativos quando comparados a métodos publicados recentemente na literatura. No método proposto, as condições são uma classe particular de desigualdades matriciais bilineares (BMIs - do inglês, Bilinear Matrix Inequalities), as quais contêm alguns termos bilineares devido à multiplicação de matrizes por escalares. Abstract: This thesis is devoted to the study of the robust H∞ control problem of continuous-time switched linear systems subject to actuator saturation with polytopic uncertainties, considering an output-dependent switching law and a switched static output feedback controller. The proposed method offers new sufficient conditions based on linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for designing the switched controllers using parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions. The method is based on a static output feedback H∞ control design recently presented in the literature that avoids linear matrices equalities (LMEs) and the need to impose any constraints on output system matrices, that is, the output matrices of the system are allowed to be of non-full row rank. In order to extend those results, the actuator saturation constraint is also studied. Theoretical analyses and simulation results show that these new procedures are less conservative than recent methods available in the literature. The conditions of the proposed methods are a particular class of Bilinear Matrix Inequalities (BMIs), which contain some bilinear terms as the product of a matrix and a scalar, related to a suitable convex combination and scalars parameters to provide extra free dimensions in the solution space. The hybrid algorithm Differential Evolution-Linear Matrix Inequality (DE-LMI), is proposed for obtaining feasible solutions of this particular NP-hard problem. Abstract:
The thesis deals with the design of a transformer station for the outgoing power of cogeneration unit with an electric capacity of up to 1 MW. The thesis describes the design procedure of individual devices such as a transformer with a nominal ratio 22/0,4 kV, high voltage switchgears and low voltage switchgears. With the proper selection of the transformer, along with the technical parameters, the economic benefits that come from its purchasing and operating costs with the transformer operation are also considered. Based on this, the economic comparison of selected types of oil transformers during 20 years is also developed. Another part of the thesis deals with HV and LV switchgears, which are dimensioned according to shortcircuit conditions in the transformer station. In conclusion this work deals with the grounding of a transformer station and design protection in accordance PPDS.

Afin de répondre aux besoins en management efficace de l’énergie électrique dans les bâtiments intelligents, le laboratoire GREMAN a proposé une nouvelle topologie d’interrupteur bidirectionnel de 600 V nommé TBBS. Les études antérieures ont validé la bidirectionnalité en courant et en tension de cette nouvelle topologie. Les travaux de recherche menées dans cette thèse avaient pour l’objectif d’approfondir, de compléter nos connaissances sur ce nouvel interrupteur bidirectionnel ainsi que sur le transistor bipolaire à fort gain. Le premier chapitre introduit le fonctionnement principal du TBBS et sa modélisation physique sous un environnement de simulation à éléments finis. Le deuxième chapitre présente le travail concernant la caractérisation expérimentale du TBBS et du transistor bipolaire à fort gain sous température contrôlée. Enfin la modélisation électrique du TBBS et du transistor bipolaire à fort gain est présentée dans le troisième et dernier chapitre
In order to meet the requirement of more efficient electrical energy management for intelligent buildings, a new 600V bidirectional switch, named as TBBS, has been proposed by the GREMAN laboratory. Previous studies have validated the current and voltage bidirectionality of this newly proposed topology. The research work carried out in this thesis deals with a deeper and more comprehensive study of this bidirectional switch and its elementary component - the High-gain bipolar juncion transistor. The first chapter introduces the operation of the TBBS and its physical modeling in a finite element simulation environment. The second chapter presentes the research work related to the experimental caracterisation of the TBBS and the High-gain bipolar junction transistor. At last the third chapter deals with the electrical modeling of these two bipolar components

Les progrès technologiques réalisés en matière d'interrupteurs semiconducteurs de puissance, ont conduit au début des années 80, à l'apparition du transistor bipolaire à grille isolée, plus couramment désigné sous l'abréviation IGBT. Etant donnés les niveaux de puissance que ces composants sont aujourd'hui aptes à commuter, une protection contre les défauts devient nécessaire. Un fusible rapide associé au composant permet d'éviter l'explosion du boîtier en cas de court-circuit, et ainsi de garantir la sécurité des personnes et des divers composants à proximité. Une étude du comportement de l'IGBT en régime de court-circuit a été entreprise afin d'évaluer une valeur caractéristique de l'explosion, et de dimensionner précisément le calibre du fusible. L'intégration d'un fusible dans un convertisseur à IGBT passe en premier lieu par l'étude des perturbations générées par le convertisseur sur le fusible. Ces perturbations, associées aux effets de proximité, se traduisent par une répartition déséquilibrée des courants entre des fusibles en parallèle ou même entre les éléments fusibles. Ainsi, nous nous sommes attachés à élaborer un modèle électrothermique du fusible permettant de calculer la répartition des courants et la température des éléments fusibles. Ce modèle permet de définir des abaques, en liaison avec un critère thermique de bon fonctionnement des fusibles. En second lieu, nous avons analysé les perturbations engendrées par le fusible sur le convertisseur. Celles-ci se traduisent principalement par l'introduction d'une inductance supplémentaire dans le circuit, laquelle pouvant être néfaste au fonctionnement du convertisseur. Technology advancement in power semiconductor devices has led to the achievement of the insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). Considering the power switched by these components, protection against fauIts is necessary. A fast fuse in series with the device can prevent the explosion of the case if a short circuit occurs, and consequently ensures people and equipment safety. An investigation on the short circuit behaviour ofIGBT has been carried out to select the ideal fuse rating. KEYWORDS Disturbances created by converters on the fuse have to be taken into account when integrating the fuse in the converter. These disturbances can be attributed to proximity effects, a consequence of which is an unbalance between fuses in parallel or even between fuse elements inside a fuselink. Consequently, an electrothermal model of the fuse is elaborated for the calculation of the distribution of current and temperature of fuse elements. This model helps us to obtain abacus associated to a thermal criterion ensuring the good working conditions of fuses. Perturbation created by the fuse on the converter is mainly characterised by an inductance added in the circuit. This inductance can be harmful to the working of the converter. Sorne rules of conception are proposed to reduce this supplementary inductance

The thesis describes methods for spectrum monitoring, which are used by the Czech telecommunication office. The thesis describes a design of an RF unit for a portable monitoring station and its potential use. The RF unit consists of several devices, which are connected. Devices like an antenna, a rotator, a rotator control unit, coaxial switches, an amplifier and attenuator were chosen as commercially available devices. It is also described, why were these devices chosen. Other devices such as filters, a control unit for the RF unit and a power supply were designed. The RF unit is controlled by a computer. A software for spectrum monitoring contains a graphical user interface for the RF unit control.

This thesis also deals with design of the track geometry compoments and geometry of set of switches at both heads of the railway station to fulfill the maximum train velocity demands at certain tracks. Last but not least, the rail track scheme of the station has been simplified.

Aujourd'hui l'outil le plus utilisé par les spécialistes d'électronique de puissance est l'oscilloscope numérique. Tant que ces appareils sont utilisés pour vérifier le fonctionnement de circuits, leur précision est, généralement, suffisante. En revanche lorsqu'ils sont utilisés pour caractériser des interrupteurs de puissance, la précision nécessaire ne peut pas être atteinte directement. Les modes opératoires doivent être optimisés et les mesures doivent être corrigées pour obtenir une précision satisfaisante. La mise en place de ces corrections demande du temps et nécessite, souvent, l'utilisation d'un ordinateur. Il est bon, avant de les développer, de s'assurer de leur opportunité. Une première partie de ce travail est consacrée à l'étude des causes d'erreurs et à leur influence sur les résultats de mesure. Nous partons de mesures effectuées, avec les plus grands soins, sur un I. G. B. T. Et nous simulons, une à une, les sources d'erreur. Cette étude permet de tirer des critères de choix de matériel de mesure et de juger de la nécessité de certaines corrections. Dans une deuxième partie, nous nous intéressons à la modélisation de l'I. Today, the main tool used by specialists in power electronics is the digital oscilloscope. As long as it is used to verify correctness of circuits working, its initial accuracy, generally, meets the needs. However, when fast power electronic switch characterization is at sake, required accuracy can't be directly reached. Operating modes must be optimized and corrections must be brought to measurement. Implementation of thèse corrections requires computer help and spends time. Before their development, it is good to be sure of their necessity. The aim of the first part of this work is to study causes of inaccuracy and their influence on measurement results. To do this, we take measurements with a maximum of care on an I. G. B. T. And we simulate, one by one, causes of errors. This study allows to détermine some références mark up to choice equipment or to judge the necessity of corrections. In a second part, we study the I. G. B. T. Modelling and, more generally, non-linear electrostatic four pôle modelling. By comparing measurements done on the I. G. B. T. With the results of simulation, we show influence of non-linear capacities of the I. G. B. T. On simulation

Le mémoire traite de la machine à réluctance variable en proposant d'une manière simultanée et du point de vue conception des solutions à ses deux inconvénients majeurs à savoir les ondulations de couple et les efforts radiaux. Les premières se propagent le long de la chaine de transmission diminuant ainsi le confort des usagers et les deuxièmes sont à l’origine d’une nuisance sonore. Dans une première partie et en s’intéressant à une structure axiale caractérisée par une faible force radiale, un bilan sur cette structure est donc établi. En effet, une configuration à deux stators et un rotor est la plus adéquate pour éventuellement remplacer la machine radiale de référence. Cette structure axiale est comparée à cette machine de référence après avoir établi des règles de passage d’une structure à une autre. Un premier passage est effectué en gardant le même encombrement et un deuxième passage en dimensionnant la machine axiale pour satisfaire le même cahier des charges que la machine radiale. Dans une deuxième partie, le travail s’oriente vers la modification de la structure radiale de la machine de référence et son optimisation. Plusieurs modifications sont proposées dont une structure avec une cale magnétique qui est la plus performante. Des optimisations géométriques à l’aide de l’algorithme génétique sur un point de fonctionnement sont ensuite effectuées pour remédier aux deux problèmes. A la fin, un récapitulatif de plusieurs structures optimisées est proposé pour servir de référence. Le choix de la machine la plus adéquate pourra donc être effectué en faisant un compromis entre la maximisation du couple, la réduction de ses ondulations et la réduction des efforts radiaux
This report deals with switched reluctance motor by offering design solutions to the drawbacks of torque ripples and radial forces in the same time. Torque ripples reduce the user comfort and radial forces are the origin of noise. In the first part, an axial structure characterized by low radial force is analysed. Indeed, an axial configuration with two stators and one rotor is the most appropriate to replace the reference radial machine. Ones the rules of passage from one structure to another are established, the axial structure is then compared to the reference one. A first passage is made by keeping the same volume and a second one by sizing the axial machine with the same specifications as the radial one. In the second part, the work concerns the modification of radial structure of the reference machine and its optimization. Several modifications are proposed including a structure with a magnetic wedge which is the most efficient. Geometric optimization using genetic algorithm are then performed on operating points to remedy the both problems. In the end, several optimized structures are proposed. The choice of the most suitable machine can be done by making a compromise between the torque maximization, reducing its ripples and reducing radial forces

La question de la transmission internationale des cycles a reçu une attention considérable en raison de l’intensification de la globalisation économique et financière. La problématique générale de cette thèse s’inscrit dans le prolongement de la littérature consacrée à cette question. Plus précisément, elle focalise son attention sur l’analyse de la transmission du cycle des Etats-Unis sur les pays émergents. Elle comporte trois chapitres. Le premier, en se basant sur une nouvelle approche économétrique en termes de modèle Global VAR, s’attache à étudier l’effet des chocs provenant des Etats-Unis sur les pays émergents. Il confirme l’idée que les Etats-Unis jouent un rôle important dans la transmission des cycles économiques étant donné leur poids dans l’économie mondiale. Le second chapitre propose d’étudier la transmission financière des Etats-Unis en s’intéressant à la crise des subprimes sur ces pays. L’estimation du modèle switch à probabilité variée développée indique que la persistance des stress financiers, le durcissement des conditions du crédit et l’augmentation du risque de non-solvabilité bancaire ont été les causes fondamentales de la transmission financière. La volatilité de l’indice boursier américain a été le facteur clé de la contamination avec tous les pays étudiés. Le troisième chapitre est consacré à étudier si les pays émergents sont en mesure d’adopter des politiques budgétaires contracycliques pouvant atténuer les chocs provenant de l’extérieur. En utilisant le modèle à seuil avec transition lisse en panel (le modèle PSTR), ce chapitre confirme que la politique budgétaire dans les pays émergents est procyclique en période de ralentissement économique et aussi lorsque la dette publique dépasse le seuil critique. De ce fait, une solide position budgétaire est fondamentale pour assurer la stabilité macroéconomique
The issue of international transmission cycles has considerably received attention due to the increasing economic and financial globalization. Our thesis is in line with the literature dedicated to this question. More specifically, we focusour attention on the analysis of the transmission cycle of the United States to emerging countries. It consists of three chapters. The first one, based on a new econometric approach in terms of Global VAR model, aims to study the effect of shocks from the U.S. to emerging countries. The main resultconfirms the idea that the United States plays an important role in the transmission of economic cycles given their weight in the world economy. The second chapter proposes to study the financial transmission of the United States by focusing on the subprime crisis on these countries. The estimation of time varyingtransitionprobability (TVTP) Markov switchingmodel indicates that the persistence of financial stress, the tightening of the conditions of the credit and the increase of the risk of Banking solvency constitute the major determinants of the financial transmission. The US stock market volatility is the key factor transmission channel for all the studied countries. The third chapter is devoted to investigate whether emerging countries are able to adopt countercyclical fiscal policies to mitigate the impact from outside. Using the threshold model with smooth transition panel ( the PSTR model ), this chapter confirms that fiscal policy in emerging countries is procyclicalin the slowdown periodand also when public debt exceeds the critical threshold. Therefore, a strong fiscal position is fundamental to ensure macroeconomic stability

This research fulfilled a design idea into a handy tool that was verified by mechanical simulation analysis methods. We used a Design-Awarded ratchet wrench withoutDirectionSwitch Buttonas an initial prototype. It was designed to a CAD 3D model that was dimensionally compliant and fitted with the ratchet geometry tooth profile. The 3D model geometry was imported to the ANSYS Workbench analysis software for finite element analysis after test torque loading. As a result, it was found there were no sufficient structural strength of some critical components that even could make the ratchet wrench unusable. Therefore, dimensional improvements of the critical components were made. The structures after improvements are found to work properly and the structural strength is still within the safety limit. This research not only can verify the usability of a ratchet wrench, but also can lower down the manufactured cost.

This thesis develops a micro-grid simulation platform of hybrid solar PV, wind-turbine, storage system and micro-turbine generators using RT-Lab real-time digital simulator. The scenarios of three-phase balanced faults occurring at different buses are studied by considering different power generations and load levels. The wavelet energies at main bus are used for training adaptive network based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), which is used to identify the faulted area. The parameters of ANFIS are obtained by MATLAB-based ANFIS Editor GUI. Using Xilinx System Generator, an FPGA-based static switch is developed using wavelet coefficients and ANFIS with fixed parameters attained from MATLAB.

This study presents a fault detection, classification and localization using the multiresolution analysis (MRA) of the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and a Taguchi-based artificial neural network (ANN). The difference of wavelet energies of the three-phase fault voltages, three-phase fault currents and the wavelet energy of the ground fault current are utilized as inputs to the neural network. The wavelet energies are obtained from the local fault signals at the static switch located at the secondary side of the main transformer in the microgrid. The neural network identifies the faulty phase and the location of the fault. The neural network determines the control action (open or close) of the static switch when both the fault location and phase are identified. The proposed method is implemented in Renesas RX62T microcontroller. The microcontroller is then implemented in a Chip-in-the-loop with a real-time digital simulator. The DWT is also implemented using a 50-kVA static switch hardware.

Abstract:
Bistable arches have two force-free stable equilibrium configurations. They also show multimodality by switching between their stable states in multiple deformation pathways. These two attributes and their nonlinear force-displacement characteristic are desirable in a range of engineering applications. The analytical and semi-analytical methods developed in this work enable faster analysis than finite element analysis and also facilitate closed-form relationships for insightful design of arches. We show that arch profiles composed using the basis set of buckling mode shapes of the straight column with the corresponding boundary conditions exhibit bistability. We analyze such arches by expressing their deformed profiles also in the same basis set. We assume that the arches are slender and shallow to derive their potential energy comprising bending and compression strain energies as well as the work potential. We solve the equilibrium equations obtained by minimizing potential energy using a semi-analytical method for analytically intractable general boundary conditions. In this method, we obtain the critical points on the force-displacement curve corresponding to switching and switch back forces and travel of the mid-point of the arch. We use this method to analyze and optimize arches of varying as-fabricated stress-free shapes and boundary conditions. We obtain an analytical relationship between the arch-profiles in the force-free states of the arch by equating the force to zero in the aforementioned equilibrium equations for both fixed-fixed and pinned-pinned boundary conditions. This relationship is bilateral, i.e., in one form it can be a used for analysis and in another for design. We derive necessary and sufficient conditions as well as corollaries from the bilateral relationship pertaining to the shapes of bistable arches. Deformation pathways in bistable arches can also be three-dimensional . These spatial deformation pathways can help reduce the switching and switch-back forces and might also, at times, adversely affect bistability. We model spatial pathways by incorporating additional energy terms due to out-of-plane bending and torsion into analysis of planar arches. We use a geometric relation by St. Venant and Michell to capture the coupling amongst the in-plane and out-of-plane deformations and rotation of the cross-sections. Furthermore, we show that non-planar arches, i.e., spatial arches, can be bistable too. Our analysis is extended to spatial arches by modifying the geometric relation to consider the additional out-of-plane curvature. We also present design of two applications based on bistable arches: an RF-MEMS switch and a mechanical OR gate. RF-MEMS switch utilizes bimodality and a novel initially-retracting electrothermal actuator to realize ON and OFF states with only two electrical terminals. The mechanical OR gate uses the bilateral relationship to design arch-profiles that achieve the OR gate logic. Additionally, we present two studies on bistability in axisymmetric shallow thin shells. In the first study, we optimize the shell-profile for maximum travel by numerical and semi-analytical approaches and compare the results with the shell obtained by revolving the optimal arch for maximum travel. In the second study, we discuss the design of a passive universal gripper based on a bistable shell that can grasp objects of varying shape.

Abstract Voltage sag is one of important power quality problems for the high-tech customers in Taiwan. Static Transfer Switches (STS) are considered one of the efficient remedy approaches for the voltage sags. Therefore, determination of the installation locations for STS must consider the minimal voltage sags and total number of switching operations, and maximal sensitive load voltages. In this thesis, three methods of fuzzy multi-objective, goal programming and combine fuzzy set with goal programming based on the Genetic algorithms and decision making for multi-objective programming problems to study the are proposed to feeder reconfiguration in distribution systems for minimal voltage sags and total number of switching operations, and maximal sensitive load voltages. The Prufer number is used for encoding the chromosomes (strings) in the Genetic algorithms. The Prufer number ensures that the system structure is radial for the distribution system.

Renewable energy generation system and micro-grids received much attention in recent years.In Taiwan,wind farms are usually installed in coastal areas faraway from existing subtations.If micro-grids equipped with wind farms are connected to power systems,substantial variations in generator terminal voltages will be observed when there is a fault in the power system. Severe faults in the system may ever cause voltage collapse and generator instability. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate terminal voltage stability of wind generators when the power system is subjected to disturbances. MATLAB/Simulink/SimPowerSystems was used to perform digital simulations on the wind generator system subjected to disturbances. The grid-connected micro-grid simulation model included the area loads and the wind farm composed of squirrel-cage induction generators. Results from theoretical analyses and digital simulations indicate that ,as the transmission line impedence increases,the load limit for the wind farms will decrease.Shunt-capacitors(SCs) can be used to improve the terminal voltage stability of wind farms.In addition,thyristor switched capacitors(TSC) can be used to effectively control the voltage magnitude within the range from 0.9 to 1.1p.u. when the area load change with time.On the other hand,when there is a disturbance such as system fault or motor starting,SCs and static synchronous compensators(STATCOMs) are useful for the enhancement of generator terminal voltages. Therefore, SCs ,which are simple and inexpensive,and STATCOMs ,which are capable of provide rapid and smooth compensation can be employed to provide voltage regulations and reactive power compensations for a remote micro grid with wind farms in Taiwan.
