Abstract:
This study was focused on the theoretical modeling and numerical investigation about the dynamic and static stiffness of coupled double-rotor spindle system of high speed grinder. The moment balance and the transition matrix, the state vector, field matrix of spindle system of high speed grinder were analyzed and deduced. The theoretical models about dynamic and static stiffness were established using the transfer matrix method. The numerical results showed that increased rigidity of front bearing significantly increased static and dynamic rigidity of spindle end and the rigidity of front bearing increased, dynamic rigidity increased more significantly than static rigidity. Furthermore, it can be conclued that increased overhang length reduced dynamic and static rigidity of spindle end at an increasingly slower rate and the span of bearing increased, static and dynamic rigidities of spindle end were reduced

Abstract:
Processing precision of numerical control machine tool is decided by static rigidity and dynamic rigidity of spindle to a great extent. 3- D model of numerical control machine tool was established by using parametric modeling and virtual assembly function of Solidworks. Simultaneously, simulation and Experiment study of the spindle static rigidity was carried out, and practicability of the simulation analysis method was proved. The result indicates that the biggest deformation appears in the front of spindle. The static rigidity of spindle can been enhanced greatly by enhancing three carriage-feed system’s static rigidity of machine tool. The simulation for the dynamic rigidity of spindle indicates that the dynamic rigidity of spindle is uniformly distributed and resonance can be avoided effectively by the spindle when working.

Abstract:
Static rigidity of workpeice spindle component is a very important index of the rigidity of derict-drive gear hobbing spindle unit. In this study, the static rigidity of workpiece spindle system were analyzed through a finite element method (EFM) by building geometric models and studying the deformation when radial cutting force was imposed. Experiments on workpiece were carried out with and without the assistance of tailstock center separately to measure the changes of the static rigidity of spindle. The results prove a less change of the static rigidity of spindle when with the assistance of tailstock center, which helps to ensure the accuracy and surface roughness of a workpiece.

Abstract:
For a tensegrity framework with bars, cables (unilateral tension members) and struts (unilateral compression members), this paper presents a sequence of four mathematical concepts for detecting its rigidity. In order from the strongest to the weakest, these concepts are called infinitesimal (or static) rigidity, prestress stability, second-order rigidity and rigidity. Emphasis is placed on pre-stress stability, which lies between infinitesimal rigidity and second-order rigidity.

Abstract:
This article aims to investigate the fluctuation of the static rigidity for preloaded ball screws. Based on the correlation between preload and friction torque, a new model to calculate the contact rigidity by friction torque is proposed. Meanwhile, a novel test bench is constructed to measure the static stiffness at different positions. The experimental results agree well with the theoretical values, which proves the validity of the model. Furthermore, it is found that the screw shaft rigidity has the greatest influence on the system stiffness fluctuation, compared to the bearing rigidity, and the torsional rigidity. For the feed system, increasing the bearing rigidity, which is the lowest stiffness of the whole system, is an effective method to increase the system stiffness. The study provides an accurate method to obtain the stiffness fluctuation in the effective travel of ball screws, which is significant for improving the positioning accuracy of ball screws and computer numerical control machine tools.

Nowadays bike has quite an important place among other modes of transport. It provides greater freedom of movement, and it is used for leisure, travelling, tourism and sports. It is not only convenient but also cost-effective vehicle of travelling. As the bicycle wheel is one of its most important elements that determine the wheel control, so it is important that the static strength and rigidity would comply with the requirements of qualify. Quality requirements compliance has an impact on the quality and safety of the bicycle. Compliance to the requirements is determined during the experiment. The experiment is considered positive if there are no breaks, cracks, scratches and the structural changes in shape meet the permitted levels. In order to analyse and experimentally verify the handlebar static strength and rigidity using tenzosensor measurement and information system operated by „Catman” software has been made an experimental bicycle wheel strength and rigidity analysis. Experimental results and finite element method calculations showed that the bicycle wheel meets the strength and rigidity standards requirements and don’t exceed them.

Abstract: The difficulty of reaching the rupture of the foundation elements in the static loading made that along several decades several methods of extrapolation of the load - settlement curve were suggested by many researchers, with the intent of determining the load failure, such as the methods proposed by Van der Veen (1953), Mazurkiewics (1972), Décourt (1996) and NBR 6122/1996. But the experience confirms that the obtained results can vary considerably from one method to another. This work details the Concept of Rigidity, proposed by Décourt (1996, 2008), a method that in the last years it has been used by the geotechnical community and which the author claims as a method that provides information on tip resistance and lateral friction, along with the load at failure in common load tests, it means, without instrumentation. Whit the interpretation results raised in bored piles, continuous flight auger, root, omega, driven concrete, "hamered" and metal pile in six experimental fields localized in Campinas/SP, Recife/PE, Vitória/ES, Londrina/PR, Ilha Solteira/SP and Brasilia/DF got satisfactory values of conventional load failure in load tests carried to big movements and some restrictions in load tests not carried to failure. The lateral friction results compared with load tests on instrumented piles results show satisfactory values, it means, in the domains.

Abstract:
This research addresses the real influence of the cracking of structural elements in the reduction of rigidity when a seismic event occurs. To do this, first, he described the problematic reality, the background and previous generalities about the topic to determine what type of building to use. Secondly, the theoretical framework exposed a set of fundamental concepts necessary to understand the cracking of concrete, the obtaining of effective inertia, the irregularity of buildings and a review of the considerations of foreign standards. In the third place, it was determined to work with 6 multifamily housing plans, of which 3 were regular structures and 3 were irregular. Likewise, the structures were subdivided into heights of 5, 10 and 15 floors, since they are the type of building that is most constructed in Lima. Afterwards, the geographic, use and geometrical parameters were found from the E-030 standard, to then perform the linear seismic analysis (static and dynamic). Then, the moment diagrams - curvature (beams, columns and plates) were made, so that from them, obtain a reduction factor of the gross inertia and perform a new seismic analysis considering this value as an effect of cracking. Finally, a comparative analysis was made between the results obtained according to the height in regular and irregular buildings.

Abstract:
The rigidity is one of the most important performance targets which is taken into account for the design of robotic systems. The control of the physical stiffness during industrial tasks is a scientific issue which is rapidly expanding in the context of the innovative design of highly polyvalent robots. The combination of a compliant robotic structure and a shape memory alloy (SMA) component is carried out in the aim of obtaining variable compliance maps over time and in the same workspace. SMAs are actually active materials with specific thermomechanical properties which can be used in this application. The considered structure has no internal degree of freedom, but the deformation of the arms allows the creation of a “Pseudo-Workspace” (PWS). This PWS varies as a function of the activated/non-activated state of the SMA component. The intersection of the two obtained PWSs represents the effector’s positions where it is possible to have different compliance values. Generated maps show interesting characteristics in the perspective of the design of polyvalent robots based on a new type of reconfigurability (change of material properties)

Aim of this thesis was finding out whether there is asymmetry on gasoline market in Czech republic, which is common knowledge or if asymmetry is only illusion. With daily data about gasoline and diesel prices from CZ market and also daily Brent Crude Oil price, thesis tires to prove that there is no asymmetry on the market. Analysis was done with asymmetric error correction model and further testing of asymmetry with koeficients from ECM. Results yield that both gasoline and diesel markets show rather symmetrical reaction on entry price change. Asymmetry was proven only in few lags and final statement is that asymmetry on market in Czech republic is rather illusion then reality.

The aim of this final thesis was static protection for castle in Miroslavské Knínice. It was necessary to explore several respects and find signs of violation. Next analyze and propose suitable assurance of individual parts. Separe into the stages of construction and to consider the proposal in terms of ensuring the resistance of materials. Finally create a detailed documentation in the range suitable for performance. Based on engineering geology and visual survey was designed horizontal bracing prestressing cables at three levels. The first level "A" consists of a closed circuit of prestressed reinforced concrete passports, supplemented by the cross and construction of prestressed reinforced concrete passports. Next level "B,C" is used to secure the top of the building. Levels “B,C” are proposed using prestressed cable in spare cable channels.

With rapid advances in modern technology, manufacturing has become highly automated. At the same time, the automation equipment has low energy consumption and high precision requirements. The invention of the transmission components was an important development in this area. The appearance of ball screws further enhanced the standard of manufacturing technology. The ball screw is assembled by multiple balls between the nut and the screw. The rolling contact between the balls and the nut and screw replaced the traditional sliding contact of the screw, dramatically reducing the energy lost from friction. Since precise manufacturing has high requirements on system stability and precision, and the rigidity of the ball screw has a decisive impact on the positioning accuracy of the system, research on the axial rigidity of the ball screw has become one of the focus of the technical aspects. In the calculation section of this study, the geometric equations for the screw spiral track was found first to obtain the principal curvature values of the contact point between the ball and the screw nut. Then, Hertz contact theory was used to calculate the deformation of the ball under pressure, which is used to calculate the axial displacement of the screw. With the addition of a load, the analytical solution for the axial rigidity can thus be derived. By creating a model with the finite element method software (Abaqus), the deformation under load can be simulated and the stress distribution can be analyzed. The axial displacement can therefore be obtained and observed. Finally, to set up the experiment, choose 3 different types of ball screws. In the material testing system, subject the ball screws to loads and measure the axial deformation using a self-designed displacement gage. Cross-reference the data from the 3 types of screws for validation. From observing the results of the calculation, the simulation, and the experiment, there are minimal differences in the calculation and the simulation mainly due to the fact that both are under ideal conditions, excluding any factors that may have negative impacts on the results. If the finite element mesh is increased, the solution is estimated to be even close to the theoretical analytical solutions. However, with the existing resources available, this simulation results are highly significant. When compared to the theoretical values of the rigidity of the ball screw, the experimental results are lower. In addition to errors such as the experimental precision machining errors and human errors, any slight offset in the fixture rigidity, tools setup, and axial force may also affect the results. Furthermore, the material parameters, physical characteristics, and mechanical properties, etc. are all somewhat different from the ideal values. When considering the accumulation of all those errors, the experimental results of lower rigidity than the theoretical value is reasonable.

Malignant hyperthermia, the neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), and the serotonin syndrome are the principal disorders associated with life-threatening hyperthermia in the intensive care unit. While each is a clinically unique entity, all can progress to multisystem organ dysfunction with acidosis, shock, and death. MH usually results from exposure to halogenated volatile anaesthetics and/or succinylcholine and symptoms of increased CO2 production and respiratory acidosis progress rapidly without prompt intervention, including the administration of dantrolene. NMS is a syndrome of rigidity and altered mental status seen most commonly in patients being treated with antipsychotic medications. The serotonin syndrome is seen in patients treated with serotonergic agents including selective serotonin reuptake or monoamine oxidase inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants. The salient clinical finding is clonus, but agitation, altered mental status and autonomic dysfunction are common. Recognizing the non-specific features of these syndromes presents a challenge as they are life-threatening if not treated promptly and correctly with specific therapies.

This formalist approach deploys several labels and distinctions (authoritarian, ideological, and temporary) that question the constitutional legitimacy of post-colonial constitutions because these are considered as merely political instruments lacking the supremacy and rigidity of higher law. It argues that this approach is deficient because it is impervious to constitutional and political practice. Moreover, the historical periodization that distinguishes between colonial and post-colonial orders is rigid and reductionist because it either emphasizes historical continuity (despite rupture) or emphasizes rupture (despite continuities). Finally, it argues that these labels and periodizations are misleading because they ignore political and economic limitations on state sovereignty.

Abstract:
The book Research on Curricula and Cultures: tensions, movements and creations, organized by Marlucy Alves Paraíso and Maria Patrícia Silva, it consists of 17 chapters, one of which is an interesting work by a Canadian scholar who investigates state anti-feminism. The other chapters bring results from 16 researches developed by researchers from the Study and Research Group on Curricula and Cultures (GECC), created and coordinated by Marlucy Alves Paraíso, which has researchers from several Brazilian universities and states. The articles in the book combine the post-critical perspectives used to investigate curricula and cultures in their different nuances, addressing silences, power relations, modes of subjectivation and the movements that prevent their fixity. The book brings research results that discuss the possibilities of creating possibilities at school and in other cultural spaces that also have curricula and develop pedagogies, such as: cyberspace, city, health care programs, teacher training programs, educational policies, etc. In addition, curricula are investigated with emphasis on different practices and aspects: childhood, art, music, dance, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, corporality, politics, with research that also innovates methodologically when operating with openings, experiments, do-it-yourself and compositions in different ways. to research curricula without rigidity, although with the necessary rigor in academic research.

Abstract:
This book discusses the impact of the difficult situation the European Union is currently going through on some structural elements of its legal order, looking for symptoms of decay, exploring examples of resistance, and assessing its overall state of health. The original choices made by the drafters of the Treaties and by the Court of Justice are put in their proper historical perspective, understanding Union law as a tool of civilization, and explaining its current problems, at least in part, as a consequence of the waning of the initial impetus behind integration. The concrete themes to be explored are the following: primacy, the national resistance to it and constitutional pluralism; the preliminary rulings procedure; Union citizenship, equality, and human dignity; the scope of the Charter and the standard of protection of fundamental rights; and the rigidity and fragmentation of the Union system in connection with the recent occasional use of international law as an alternative to Union law. The book looks at the development of the law throughout the decades, inevitably losing much detail, but hopefully also uncovering structural connections and continuities.

Abstract:
This essay examines the economic activities and "work" of aristocratic women, c.1000–c.1400. Despite the limitations posed by law, custom, and social expectation, women played a central role in preserving and transferring family wealth through marriage, gifts, and inheritance. They were equally crucial in matters of household and estate management. Both older and recent scholarship explores the complexity of the woman's experience within the European family. Her role was neither rigidly static nor in perpetual flux. The diversity of a woman's economic responsibilities and her influence in the family reveal the inherent flexibility of the medieval family, once considered staunchly patriarchal. While some have argued that the patrilineal descent group was narrowing in this period, medieval families devised strategies to preserve the integrity of their holdings and to provide for a range of kin, regardless of gender.

Abstract:
The inviolability of national borders is an unquestioned pillar of the post-World War II international order. Fixed borders are believed to encourage stability, promote pluralism, and discourage nationalism and intolerance. But do they? What if fixed borders create more problems than they solve, and what if permitting borders to change would create more stability and produce more just societies? This book examines this possibility, showing how we arrived at a system of rigidly bordered states and how the real danger to peace is not the desire of people to form new states but the capacity of existing states to resist that desire, even with violence. The book proposes a practical, democratically legitimate alternative: a right of secession. With crises ongoing in the United Kingdom, Spain, Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, and many other regions, this reassessment of the foundations of our international order is more relevant than ever.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter examines the Napoleonic subprefects who have been in office in the Netherlands and Northwest Germany. Within the prefectoral system, these sous-préfets were the highest officials at arrondissement (disctrict) level. Activities of subprefects, somewhat neglected by historians, give insight into how French tried to rally the locals, and how this affected the daily functioning of the Empire. Discussed are subprefects’ sociocultural backgrounds, imperial careers, and perception of Napoleonic governance. Subprefects had to balance national, local, and personal interest. Integration at district level was hard when the letter of the administrative legislation and the precise instructions from above were rigidly adhered to. Subprefects traveling the Empire linked events in the Netherlands and Northwest Germany to developments elsewhere, promoting integration into the Empire. Circulation patterns reflect different ideas on the required level of integration. It is argued that the figure of the subprefect was a potential ‘tool of integration’. That subprefects were close to the ground could contributed to the effectiveness of Napoleonic governance. But subprefects also coped with demanding prefects, and interference of other agents of the central state. Reversely, unwilling subprefects were in a position to hinder the integration process.

Abstract:
This final chapter situates the analysis of the role of politics in the development of the Special Procedures within the heated debate over the future of the international human rights agenda as articulated by a growing number of scholars. It suggests that the alleged failures of international human rights may be a reflection of the rigidity of the Westphalian edifice in accommodating the struggles of individuals and communities beyond the human rights framework. Only human rights mechanisms have demonstrated enough flexibility, accompanied by political will, to open access for non-state actors to the transnational space. This accessibility has not been accompanied by an acknowledgment of the conceptual, normative, institutional, and practical problems inherent in the attempt to combine agendas that are not always compatible, as illustrated in the relationship between development, security, and human rights issues. This important gap is compounded by the myth this book seeks to discredit, namely, the presumption that politicization of human rights should be eliminated and that some groups of states are rigidly associated with preconceived political alignments.

Abstract:
The hollow extrusion-type material made from aluminum alloys has recently attracted attention, and it has been used for the car bodies of high-speed railway vehicles. Hollow extrusions are laminating board structures that consist of a two-sheet board and slanting material known as a double skin structure. The double skin structure is advantageous in attaining a lightweight car body structure and in increasing rigidity in case it bends outside and the pressure load at the time of the run in tunnel acts, since rigidity is high. In this study, static tests were carried out for component models and for an experimental full-sized car body, in which aluminum honeycomb panels are applied as outside plates to improve pressure resistance, while their requisite light weight and rigidity are maintained. Experiments were conducted to determine tensile strength, bending strength and the shearing strength of the honeycomb panel. The stresses of an actual car body were under 30 MPa, which is low compared with strength of the honeycomb panel. An actual car body, then, has sufficient strength reliability.

Abstract:
The paper aims to present a new approach of the static stability of a structure and to compare it with spectral analysis (dynamic stability). Its is well-known that for conservative systems divergence (classical static instability) and flutter (classical dynamic instability) give same critical values of loads. It is well known too that for non conservative systems, particulary for undamped non conservative systems, (classical example of Beck column subjected to a follower force) the static approach fails: for all values of the force, the (non-symmetric) matrix of rigidity is regular. The only spectral analysis gives a critical value of the load. Introducing the concept of mixed perturbation of a structure, we propose a new criterion of (static) stability. We apply this criterion to the classical example previously cited (Beck column) and in a third part a general result about applications to flutter is proposed.

Abstract:
In this work the rigidity of a shaft with diagonal crack in its half part in its elastic range under static conditions simply supported in its ends and with concentrated load to the center is determined. The functional relationship for the variation of the second moment of area of their different cross-sections is deduced. For double numeric integration the slope and the deformation of the shaft is calculated. The frequency in which the cracked system would enter in resonance is calculated. The rigidity of the shaft with crack is smaller that the rigidity of the shaft without crack. Based on the results of the study is concluded that the rigidity of the shaft with crack can be evaluated with the procedure described to determine a range of frequencies in which the system would enter in resonance. Therefore the system would be unstable and detectable.

Abstract:
In order to maximize lift for use in turning and landing maneuvers, bats make use of continuous camber change along their fifth metacarpal more effectively than all modern-day aircraft flaps. This biological shape change produces lower drag than modern aircraft, allowing for greater flight efficiency and lower noise signatures. A mechanism to replicate this demands a seamless actuator to avoid gaps and discontinuities, and requires the use of morphing structures. However, a recurring problem in morphing aircraft design is inefficiency of both space and power consumption. Problems often stem from the replacement of rigid structural elements with actuator elements that must be powered in order to carry static loads. To resolve this issue, a ‘smart joint’ concept is proposed which allows rigidity in its passive state, and becomes compliant while serving as an actuator by way of a composite of smart materials. Using a network of shape memory alloy and shape memory polymer, the joint is capable of rotations on the order of 5 percent camber over an arbitrary length when placed along a skeletal element of a bat-like wing structure. An analytical model is used to predict the behavior of the joint as a function of resistive heating and external loading, and is used to examine the layer thicknesses and locations (i.e. bimorph vs. unimorph) and placement of rigid elastic members in order to maximize deflection under a given load. Validation of the joint using is conducted via finite element modeling, and expected airfoil data for a generic shape maneuver to be accomplished by this joint is shown.

Abstract With the development of machine tools trending toward high precision, intelligence, multi-axis, and high speed, the improvement of the processing performance and rigidity of the machine is considerably important. The objective of this study is to design of a high-speed five-axis moving-column machine tool and perform structural analysis and optimization. We study the static and dynamic characteristics of the five-axis machine tool, design and improve the mechanical structure, and optimize the structural configuration of the machine. The entire machine structure is further analyzed and enhanced to improve its static and dynamic characteristics, including static rigidity, modal, transient, and spectral response characteristics. The static and dynamic characteristics of the machine structure directly affect the machine processing performance, and further affect the work piece precision machined by the tool. Through this study, the design technology for speed, accuracy, and surface roughness of the machine tool are further improved.

Abstract:
As the State of California continues to grow, demand for enhanced infrastructure such as roadways and highways escalates. In view of the current average highway lifespan of 15–20 years, the improvement of asphalt binders leads to material sustainability by decreasing required maintenance and increasing the lifespan of roadways. In the present investigation, enhancement of asphalt binder properties was achieved by different methods of mixing varying compositions of graphene nanoparticles with an SBS polymer and asphalt binder. Additionally, experimental evaluation and comparison of the rheological and mechanical properties of each specimen is presented. Graphene nanoparticles have attracted great curiosity in the field of highway materials due to their incredible rigidity, even in small quantities. Addition of as little as 1.0%nanoparticles in combination with polymers in an asphalt binder is expected to increase the rigidity of the material while also maintaining the beneficial polymer characteristics. Evaluation of the effect of the mixing design established that the methods for application of graphene to the polymer-modified asphalt binder are critical in the improvement of a roadway, resulting in resistance to premature aging and strain from constant road operation.
