Abstract:
The water molecule, rotationally state selected in the third and fourth streching overtone (|04>- and |05>-) and stretch-bend combination (|04>|2>-) levels, has been photodissociated at γ ≈ 282 nm via the à state. The OH photofragment rotational distributions, determined by OH(A-X) laser-induced fluoresence (LIF), are found to differ from those reported previously by Andresen and coworkers (H2O|01>- + 193 nm), Grim and coworkers (H2O|04>- + 239.5 nm) and Rosenwaks and coworkers (H2O|01>+ + 193 nm). These variations become more apparent with increasing angular momentum in the parent water molecule and with an increasing number of OH stretching quanta in the intermediate vibrational overtone. The Franck-Condon model of Balint-Kurti is able to qualitatively reproduce the observed trends, provided that dissociation at lower photolysis photon energies and via higher intermediate overtone states is assumed to occur preferentially from extended RH-OH configurations. The calculations suggest that the variation in the photofragment rotational distributions lies in a gradual change in the inertial properties of the bound state water molecule as the H-OH bond is stretched. In a second study, the partially deuterated water molecule, rotationally state selected in the third and fourth OH stretching vibrational overtone levels have been photodissociated via the à state at γ ≈ 288 nm. A branching ratio betweem the H + OD and D + OH dissociation channels is estimated from OD and OH (A-X) LIF measurements to be φ(OD)/φ(OH) > 20; this compares well with the previous measurements of Grim and coworkers, and the theoretical work of Imre and coworkers. The small shift in the centre of mass in the water molecule arising from the substitution of of a deuterium atom for one of the hydrogen atoms is shown to have a marked effect on the rotational distributions of the OD photofragment. Calculations using a modified Franck-Condon model, which includes an approximate exit-torque, are able to reproduce qualitatively the experimental OD rotational distributions at sensible values of RR-OD(~ 1.4 Å). In addition to being sensitive to the dynamics of the parent molecule on the ground state potential, the product OD state distributions are shown to be very sensitive to even the smallest exit channel torque on the excited potential surface.

Abstract:
In the past decades, networking researchers experienced great changes. Being familiar with the development of networking researches is the first step for most scholars to start their work. The targeted areas, useful documents, and active institutions are helpful to set up the new research. This project is focused on developing an assistant tool based on public accessed papers and information on the Internet that allows researchers to view most cited papers in networking conferences and journals. NLP tools are implemented over crawled full-text in order to classify the papers and extract the keywords. Papers are located based on authors to show the most active countries around the world that are working in this area. References are analyzed to view the most cited topics and detailed paper information. We draw some interesting conclusions from our system, showing that some topics attract more attention in the past decades.

Gao, Fan. "State-Estimator Design for the KTH Research Concept Vehicle." Thesis, KTH, Fordonsdynamik, 2016. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kth:diva-198518.

Full text
Abstract:
The Research Concept Vehicle (RCV) is a pure electric vehicle with four in-wheel motors and individual steering as well as camber actuators. It serves as an experimental research vehicle which is built by the Integrated Transport Research Lab (ITRL). The development of the RCV’s functionality never stops after the platform started running. In order to involve the advanced driver assistance systems and realize autonomous driving in the RCV, accurate information of vehicle dynamic states and the environment is required. In this case, based on the sensors we have on the RCV, sensor fusion and state estimation are critical to be adopted for solving this problem. The purpose of this thesis is to find appropriate estimators, define the specifications and design the corresponding logics to estimate vehicle dynamic parameters and the navigation information. The classic Kalman Filter (KF) and its extension for nonlinear systems Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) are explained and used for solving the problem. A double-track vehicle model is implemented in the estimator for current use and further development. The results of all estimations are shown, and the mathematical evaluation of position estimates indicate that they outperform the original signals which are inputs to the sensor fusion algorithm. At last, some suggestions for further improvement are presented.

Manale, Blake. "The State and Place of Mindfulness in Modern Research." ScholarWorks@UNO, 2018. https://scholarworks.uno.edu/honors_theses/110.

Full text
Abstract:
Originally derived from Eastern religions, the concept of mindfulness has been adapted and validated by psychology and medical science within recent decades. This project describes some of the religious viewpoints associated with mindfulness and its related practices, such as meditation. The primary focus however, are the forays into scientific study using validated methodology to understand what mindfulness can and cannot affect as it relates to physical and mental health. The initial studies serve as proof of concept and cover simple reductions in symptomology and suffering for conditions like anxiety and depression. The scope of mindfulness application grew as research progressed, leading to more focused studies involving the extreme stress of medical students, the lifespan of the elderly, and autobiographical memory for those in remission who had depression. Like all respectable scientific experimentation, having the ability to quantify the results and observations seen is accounted for by these studies. Furthermore, a cohesive model and adapted measurement scale are discussed to denote the clout carried by mindfulness and related practices. In closing, discussion of current research directions are given along with a re-emphasis of conclusions established in the literature.

Hammond, Bonny Marguerite. "The Indiana State Hospital project : the research and documentation of twenty-eight Indiana State Hospital structures." Virtual Press, 1986. http://liblink.bsu.edu/uhtbin/catkey/460294.

Full text
Abstract:
The retention of historic structures and the information which they contain, the basic goals of historic preservation, has occurred with increasing frequency in the twenty-year period following the passage of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Admittedly, the ideal scenario involves the retention and reuse of architecturally or historically important structures. However, occasionally notable buildings are found which are located upon sites earmarked for new construction or which have deteriorated to a condition which makes restoration or adaptive reuse not economically feasible. Adequate documentation prior to the destruction of such buildings not only preserves the information therein contained, but also may encourage reuse of some structures by making the owner aware of their contribution to the streetscape, to local history or to the architectural history of a community or region.Although parameters for adequate documentation exist at the national level for national landmarks, state and local standards are vague at best, leaving both the professional and the non-professional preservationist to determine the level of documentation and the amount of research required. Difficult at best for the professional, documentation in the absence of guidelines frequently proves disastrous for the non-professional.This thesis is the product of a documentation project conducted between September 1984 and October 1985 to provide "adequate documentation" for a client of the College of Architecture and Planning at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana. Having no established guidelines or precedent to follow, and instructed to produce "adequate documentation" for 28 structures at six Indiana State Hospitals, the documentation team learned much during the fourteen-month process of producing both written and graphic documentation. The author presents this descriptive analysis of one component of the documentation process - the preparation of the 331-page written text which accompanied photographs and H.A.B.S. drawings. While each project differs, the Indiana State Hospital Project established a precedent which may be referred to By the C.A.P. when faced with similar projects in the future.

Abstract:

In their research as well as their teaching, universities of technology (UoTs) expect to be infused by the application of technology and to be integrally related to the world of work. At the same time, research at UoTs is characteristically innovatory, in the specific sense of transforming research discoveries into products or services that are user-oriented and commercially viable. Since practical problems and user needs do not respect disciplinary boundaries it follows, firstly, that such research at a UoT will in some sense not respect disciplinary boundaries, i.e. it will have to connect, cross, or integrate traditional disciplines. This paper seeks accordingly conceptually to differentiate the relevant senses of multi-, inter- and trans-disciplinary (MIT) research. It then characterises the fourteen current research programmes at Central University of Technology (CUT) in these regards, comparing the findings from interviews with the programme leaders with the insights of the authors. Secondly, in that most research at UoTs is also expected to be innovatory, it is demanded of researchers that they also master the skill of researching the feasible applications of findings, developing products, and envisaging commercialisation; and handing the stakeholder relationships that arise in these interactions. The interviews further indicate the extent to which the respective programmes have moved down the MIT road. They also reveal that the challenges that are faced by the programmes are overwhelming generic rather than specifically MIT-related. Some strategic recommendations are extracted from the findings.

Slamat, Anastasia Nicole. "NGOs as linkages between grassroots women and the state : prospects for state feminism in South Africa." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/80228.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2013.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The core question that is addressed by this research is whether, and to what extent South African women’s NGOs contribute to enhancing state feminism through their ability to articulate and mobilise the strategic interests of women at grassroots level to appear on the national agenda, through the channels provided by the National Gender Machinery (structures of the state). A literature review was conducted that draws on the work of predominantly feminist authors in order to locate this research in previous scholarly knowledge that is relevant to the purpose of this study. The literature review includes elaboration of concepts like state feminism, women’s interests, agenda setting, civil society, and linkages between the women’s movement and the National Gender Machinery (NGM). A theoretical framework developed by Stetson and Mazur (1995), which aims at measuring whether gender machineries facilitate an increase in gender equality within the state, is used. The framework utilises two dimensions in order to investigate the level of state feminism within a country, i.e. state capacity, which investigates to what extent gender machineries influence and inform policy that is feminist and gender friendly; and state-society relations, which investigates the extent to which gender machineries provide opportunities for organised civil society actors (women’s organisations) to engage and access policy making and contribute to policy influence. In order to examine the levels of state capacity present in South Africa with regard to gender equality, current patterns of politics (a concept used by Stetson and Mazur) are considered. This is done in order to evaluate whether the political context is conducive to the passing and implementation of policy that is of a feminist nature. A qualitative study of the experience of four South African women’s NGOs, using face-to-face interviews specially designed for this purpose, was undertaken. The NGOs were interviewed in order to ascertain the status of state-society linkages, and whether the state provides access to civil society actors to inform policy making and implementation from a gender-friendly perspective that is reflective of grassroots women’s interests. The NGOs interviewed are the New Women’s Movement (NWM), the Women’s Legal Centre, the Black Sash and the International Labour Research and Information Group (ILRIG). The findings of the fieldwork are analysed according to the framework of Stetson and Mazur (1995) in order to formulate a response to the research question. Findings include the presence of state capacity that is hostile to gender issues, with minimal (unreceptive) efforts to engage society actors in a flourishing state-society relationship. The provision of unreceptive and inconsistent space provided by the state, the lack of commitment to gender by women working within the state, and the state of “decline” that many South African NGOs are facing, have led to a “blockage” in the articulation of gender issues by NGOs that emanates from grassroots level to inform policy making, and contributes to the institutionalisation of state feminism. The national levels have therefore been largely out of touch with the interests of women at grassroots level as a result of minimal engagement and communication through the (dysfunctional) NGM. The state has spoken on behalf of, and decided on behalf of, women what is best for them and their livelihoods. Instead of being a gateway to the institutionalisation of state feminism, the state has acted as a patriarchal entity and has, to a very large extent, further entrenched gender inequality and the hardships faced by ordinary South African women at grassroots level.

Abstract:
Introduction of web technology have turned the current world into a global village and web design becomes a huge challenge to develop a website in a better way. To develop a user friendly interface and easy access environment of webpage is the key issue of usability in this field. Improved and user friendly interface of a web site is becoming more popular. There are so many mistakes being committed when a designer develops end users interface of a web site. The main purpose of usability in this field is to provide a user friendly, easy access environment. This paper reveals a guideline for usability of the website design. Most of the designer or developer thinks about their websites outlooks rather than thinking about users’ concern. If it becomes difficult to use their website, people won’t revisit their site. So if designers want to have a successful website, they have to ensure that their design fulfills the users’ requirement. The purpose of this paper is to indicate the existing common usability issues which are being overlooked by the designers and developers, and to provide some possible solutions to reduce these usability problems. It also suggests some simple but effective tips and techniques as well as some guidelines for website design that could be helpful for designer and developer if they keep these in mind during designing a website. The results of the paper specify that there should be the interest to designers and developers who are concerned about improvement of usability and more accessibility of their websites by users. In this thesis, I am committed to create the understanding on the aspects of usability principles suitable to make a user interface more acceptable to the users. This understanding will surely be a pilot project for upcoming future researches on the development of interface design.

That the road is a symbol of the prowess of the nation-state seems tautological, a uni"ed phenomenon of political symbolism that manifests as an infrastructural network. When subjected to a close historical examination, the texture of this tautology begins to disintegrate; the road emerges as a nuanced geographical object created by the state. On one hand, the newly independent India of 1947 attempted to presence itself within its jurisdiction through the road, laying administrative claim to any territory that it could pave. On the other, the state, through the road, had to contend with the topography of its land, its ancient and tenuous geological formations, the stretching and creeping of its mountains, and other vagaries of nature. This had to be done within the framework of a nation violently birthed from two hundred years of colonial rule, its limited economic resources, cement shortages, lack of technical expertise, and contingencies of available infrastructural networks. The state's attempt at being modern, doing modernity, emerged in the details of road making. In the 1960s research projects investigating rigid and flexible pavements were funded, street-paint and signage was experimented with, traffic studies and parking geometry was produced, and new mixes of concrete were developed; the state's modernity manifested as a central research institute whose task it was to rationalize existing knowledge, and produce new knowledge about roads and road building. The studies, reports, and handbooks produced by their research institutes represent the state's desired discourse of rational modernity.
(cont.) Yet, in reading this material against the grain, reading it textually, a counter discourse of the difficulty of deploying modernity in a country like India. I argue that the road can be read as an archive, a repository of 1960s India's governmental desire.

Green, Tayla. "Evaluating the research impact of Australia’s state natural history museums." Thesis, Green, Tayla (2021) Evaluating the research impact of Australia’s state natural history museums. Honours thesis, Murdoch University, 2021. https://researchrepository.murdoch.edu.au/id/eprint/65264/.

Full text
Abstract:
This study is a bibliometric assessment of the research output of Australia’s mainland State Natural History Museums (ASNHMs), covering all literature published by these museums within the Scopus database from 1981 – 2020. ASNHMs include the Australian Museum (Sydney), Western Australian Museum (Perth), South Australian Museum (Adelaide), Queensland Museum (Brisbane), and the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (Darwin). The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery was excluded because of its modest size and research output. The National Museum of Australia is also excluded because it is concerned primarily with social history. ASNHMs are a vital repository of the range of Australia's unique biodiversity. They hold invaluable collections of natural history specimens that are major contributors to the taxonomic and systematic research of national and global biodiversity. Conserving biodiversity is a great challenge, and ASNHMs play a vital role in contributing to research and the implementation of plans to conserve Australia’s flora and fauna, known often for its high level of endemism and vulnerability in the face of climate change, habitat destruction, and threats from introduced pests and diseases. This research reveals that ASNHM research is prolific, covers many topics, and is amongst some of the most influential literature in the world. The ASNHM’s published 9,770 papers over the study period, rising from 38 in 1981 to 529 in 2020. Four areas predominated, comprising in total almost 80% of the entries in all year blocks: Agricultural and Biological Sciences – 1981-1985 (n = 171, 44.42%) through to 2016- 2020 (n = 1960, 47.85%). Earth and Planetary Sciences - 1981-1985 (n = 83, 21.56%) through to 2016-2020 (n = 439, 10.72%). Environmental Science – 1981-1985 (n = 56, 14.55%) through to 2016-2020 (n = 553, 13.50%). Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology – (1981-1985 n = 15, 3.90%) through to 2016-2020 n = 358, 8.74%). The rise in publications in Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology reflects the growing significance of this discipline in museum work. Analysis of the 50 most highly cited papers over this period revealed that the number of citations ranged from 299 – 1,793, with most papers coming from the subject areas Agricultural and Biological Sciences (39%) and Multidisciplinary (27%). A Field- Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) was available for 46 of the top 50 papers, with a range of 1.35 to 80.95 (mean 13.45). A FWCI of 1 indicates a paper performing at the average for its discipline, so these papers clearly outperformed others in their field. All preceding analyses assume that all museum work is being captured through conventional searches of Scopus. By searching for the records of two long-standing museum researchers in Scopus secondary documents (documents not listed in Scopus but cited by documents are in Scopus), the comprehensiveness of a conventional search could be checked. The secondary document searches revealed a large body of scholarship that was not detected by conventional database searches. One author had nearly 300 entries in secondary documents and the other over 200. These large bodies of scholarship generated h-indices of 23 and 17 respectively. Thus, conventional searches underestimate the extent of research publications from ASNHM researchers. ASNHM researchers have achieved their strong record through high collaboration with universities, government agencies, conservation organisations and other leading authorities in protecting ecosystems and wildlife, hitting high notes in topics of great social, environmental and economic importance. This research highlights the importance of research conducted by ASNHMs, their scientists and their affiliates, their collaboration within Australia and internationally. In documenting the range of research conducted by ASNHMs, this study heroes the significance of this collective research in the face of ever-increasing budget constraints that threaten the existence of museum research.

Lindh, Arvid. "Attitudes towards the Market and the Welfare State : Incorporating attitudes towards the market into welfare state research." Doctoral thesis, Umeå universitet, Sociologiska institutionen, 2014. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:umu:diva-88490.

Full text
Abstract:
Social policy and its associated institutions are central political arenas for societal compromise and conflict. The capacity to attract strong support from a wide constituency of citizens is, therefore, a defining feature of welfare policy legitimacy. While there is much research measuring attitudes towards state-organized welfare, the overall aim of this thesis is to incorporate attitudes towards the market into this research field. This aim is carried out through four empirical studies that add a market component to the analysis of different topics covered in current welfare state research. The articles in this thesis either compare attitudes across countries or deploy Swedish public opinion as a test case. Newly designed or previously underutilized survey measures are used that explicitly cover attitudes towards the market. Latent class analysis, structural equation modeling, and multilevel analysis are used to study how attitudes vary both within and across countries.   Citizens’ perceptions and evaluations of the market are found to be shaped by their everyday life experiences within the market structure. Moreover, citizens’ trust in the performance of market institutions is found to be important in structuring their welfare policy preferences. In addition, attitudes towards the market appear to be influenced by the institutional context: citizens living in countries with more ambitious welfare states are less inclined to support market distribution of social services, and class differences in political welfare attitudes tend to be larger in countries with more encompassing welfare states. Collected findings thus suggest that citizens living in countries with more generous welfare states are more inclined to think that the legitimate scope of the market nexus should be negotiated and calibrated via social policy.   By incorporating attitudes towards the market in relation to welfare state support, this thesis contributes to increasing our understanding of the political and moral mindset of citizens in advanced political economies. Public attitudes towards the welfare state are to a significant degree formed by perceptions and evaluations of the market and its actors. In order to further our knowledge about preferences regarding the role of the state in modern society, and to stay in tune with ongoing policy developments, future socio-political research is well advised to bring the main alternative to the state – the market and its actors – into the analytical framework.

Oduwo, Elizabeth. "Understanding the multiple roles for the state in HIV vaccine research." Thesis, McGill University, 2010. http://digitool.Library.McGill.CA:80/R/?func=dbin-jump-full&object_id=86994.

Abstract:
Kenya has a rich and controversial history of HIV vaccine-related research and incidents between researchers, participants and authorities have highlighted pertinent and endemic ethical, legal, social and political issues. The role of the state during these events and in wider vaccine research is unexamined and misunderstood; yet, the state is a deeply involved and dominant party.
My thesis provides a coherent explanation of the role of the state in vaccine research and links recurrent ethical issues to the multiple and competing interests the state has in this activity. I develop multiple roles for the state as a Facilitator, Guardian, Participant, Regulator, Researcher and Sponsor based on a common understanding of the key parties in biomedical ethics. These roles explain the complex state participation and are developed and shaped by crucial influential factors in the environment surrounding HIV vaccine research.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify and determine attributes of vehicles which will bridge the communication gap between researchers and policymakers at the California State Legislature. The key policy actors, defined as those individuals who have the most effect on creation and content of educational policy in the area of education at the California State Legislature, were seen as operating in an atmosphere ideological in nature due to the absence of research data within the policy debate structure, and the effects of political pragmatics. The entire population of the Legislature, including the education committees consultants, were surveyed in order to obtain quantitative data. Qualitative data was generated by the use of selected interviews by the researcher as well as an open-ended survey question. A synthesis of the two methods of data collected generated the findings and recommendations. The findings of the study were that educational research should be presented in a very concise format with clearly marked headings and focused arguments as the rationale underlying the format. The information should be disseminated early and often to both houses' offices of research and educational committee consultants. Delivery of information just prior to votes on the legislation would be most effective. Financial reform in the area of school funding as well as restructuring were seen as the two most important issues research should be focused on currently. Recommendations for future study would be collection of data from the Assembly and Senate offices of research in order to determine the format and delivery of educational research most useful to these entities. Based upon the results, the research community should be surveyed to ascertain the best means for researchers and other educational professionals to link up with end users of research at the policy level. The same effort to determine most useful format and delivery should be conducted for the press since we saw in the results of currently used information that newspapers were ranked quite highly by the Legislature.

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the implementation of the Namibian education policy with particular reference to Senior Secondary education (Grades 11-12) in order to develop analysing skills that will facilitate better understanding of my professional context and enhance my ability to operate within a research environment. The main purpose is to look at the theory that underpins the curriculum and to find out whether that theory is carried through into practice. This contextual analysis is also designed to provide baseline data as I subsequently explore my area of research. The specific objectives of the research are to: • conduct interviews with teachers and learners which may reveal ideological differences on how these various actors perceive the curriculum; • analyse specific areas within the curriculum that might reveal the type of theory underpinning the curriculum; • assess the curriculum in order to identify objectives and goals that may affect the implementation of the intended curriculum.

Abstract:

The steady state of deformation was analyzed for a clayey sand. The use of lubricated end platens was evaluated and proved to reduce the scatter in steady state data. The effect of different data corrections in a steady state analysis was also evaluated. For this investigation the parabolic area assumption better approximated the deformed specimen shape than the right cylinder assumption. It was concluded that the use of different area corrections greatly influences the slope and position of the steady state line.

Abstract:
The effects of postural threat on gait initiation and steady state gait among Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients and age-matched adults were examined. Ten healthy adults (CTRL; mean age= 68.8 ± 8.4, range 56-80 years) and ten PD patients (PDOFF / ON ; mean age= 69.7 ± 10.3, range 54-81 years) initiated gait and continued with steady state walking along a walkway of two different height conditions. PD patients were first tested in a non-medicated state followed by testing in a medicated state. The results showed that gait initiation and steady state gait deficits inherent to PD are exacerbated in a postural threatening environment. As well, medication efficacy for overcoming parkinsonian deficits may be context dependent. These findings confirm the dynamic nature of movement deficits characteristic of parkinsonian patients and provide empirical evidence for specific environments that can create movement difficulties for people with PD.

Abstract:
Brands are now more aware of the importance of implementing a mobile marketing strategy by employing a QR code campaign with the intent of enhancing brand awareness and strength the relationship with customers. Thus, an extensive research has been conducted on this subject with focus on the Swedish premium fashion market .The purpose of this research study is to analyze a new mobile marketing tool called Quick-response (QR) codes, and understand this phenomenon on the premiumfashion segment in Sweden, while relating at the same time with concepts such as customer relationship management and brand awareness. In this study a qualitative research method was chosen, by applying qualitative semi-structured interviews and qualitative content analysis. The research shows that there is a problem with customers' awareness regarding QR codes and its usage. Companies should also be educated for the importance of integrating a mobile marketing program within their marketing and communication strategy. Nonetheless, the study has shown that brands may increase brand awareness and drive CRM if all the requirements above stated are fulfilled, since all of the participants in this research acknowledge the relationship between a brand and its customers extremely important.

Joke book is always the first choice for children, because it will cheer children with endless happiness and joy; however, most of the jokes originate from modern stories, rarely from ancient Chinese jokes, we do not really know that the joke literature had developed maturely since Chin dynasty, there were abundant creations since then, from earlier “Self conflict”, “Waiting for rabbit beside tree”, “Engrave ship to discover the knife”, “Handan learned to walk”, “Ugly girl reproduced beauty”, “Chen person bought shoes” to “Laughing forest”, “Face inspiration record”, “Miscellaneous notes of Ichi”, “Laughing hall”, “Great laughing hall”, “Wider files of laughing forest” developed later in Han and Wei dynasties, which are really the data base of children jokes. Therefore, this study intends to focus on the story suitable for children studying, chiefly adopts the materials in “Chinese Jokes” edited by Yang Chi Low, covering those jokes from Tsou, Wei, to Cheen dynasties, seeking to figure out the features and characteristics of ancient jokes. The context of the study instroduces and explains, point by point, from the developmental course, material type, art feature and literature skill, through the aspects required to consider in retelling Chinese ancient jokes, thereby exhibiting the importance and research value of ancient Chinese jokes against children literature.

This research stated about "The Developmental States at Taiwan in The Relationship of State-Business Transformation: An Example of Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation". First, the author try to introduce the theory of developmental states in East Asia, giving the explanation of countries that using the power of nation, economic planning, or industry policy of influence in economic as to achieve highly economic growth and quoted the comment and research in contrast to domestic scholars as the theory of developmental states in East Asia. Some description about the state-business relationship between the exchanging of political party also mention in this article. Before the exchanging, KMT taking the control of both state and party enterprise. For both state and private enterprise, the state-business relationship during that time is so call patron-clientelism which was caused by authority. After the exchanging of political party, not only the state-business network during the period of authority was broken, but the space of reform was rebuilt also, and the state-business relationship trends to more private and syndicate. Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation, which won the investment right and 30 years’ operation right at the trade off government zero financial support, took advantage of state-business relationship at the time they encountered the financial prediction error. They asked government to finance with mid to long term finance, to get the development right of Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation, which against the original BOT of THRC. From the case of THRC, we can conclude: Capitalist took advantage of the idea such as politic donation and benefit exchange so that decisive bureaucracy is impossible to plan the transportation construction as a whole from a neutral and far reaching view, and finally caused the restriction of state autonomy .THRC is only a case, but perhaps a miniature of nowadays developmental states state-business relationship of Taiwan.

In recent years, there are many difficulties in the Taiwanese banking industry, especially the over-banking problem. Every bank uses the price competition to broaden its market share because they have no innovative ability to create new products and services. In order to solve this problem, Taiwanese government regarded privatization as the best way to improve state-owned banks’ operating performance. This issue has also become a very popular subject of studies. This study investigated the difference of operating performance between pre-privatization and post-privatization. It discussed and examined the relationship among Safety, Activity, Liquidity, Profitability and Growth. Based on the results, Profitability is directly affected by Safety and Growth. In addition, Growth is also directly affected by Activity. So, if managers of a bank want to make profit continuously, they have to care about not only sales growth but also risk management. After privatization, there are three increasing indicators, including equity ratio, current ratio and quick ratio. However, there are still eight decreasing ones, inclusive of fixed asset turnover ratio, equity turnover ratio, total asset turnover ratio, return on asset (ROA), return on equity (ROE), profit margin on sales, equity growth rate and sales growth rate. As a result, privatization is probably not the best solution to improve the operating performance of state-owned banks. Key words: state-owned banks, privatization, operating performance

The main objective of this research was to study the solid state fermentation (SSF) of sludge mixed with bulking agents such as rice hulls, bagasse, woodchips and rice strw. The effect of those bulking agents on SSF were investigated with oxygen uptake rate (OUR) of the microorganisms. Excepting assessed the suitabilities of all bulkings agents and also find out the best operation parameters of the most suitable bulking agent. The expermental results showed that: 1. SSF of sludge mixed with rice straw or bagasse were more effective than mixed with woodchips or rice hulls when the C/N ratio was fixed at 25. 2. SSF of sludge mixed with rice straw showed the best result, the others were collocated as bagasse, woodchips and rice hulls when sludge and bulking agents were mixed at the same ratio. 3. Rice straw showed the best ventilative property, bagasse was the next, woodchips and rice hulls had relative worse ventilative properties. 4. Rice straw was the most suitable bulking agent for SSF of sludge in this research. When inoculumed with bagasse composts, the most suitable operation parameters were: (1) temperature: 50℃ (2) moisture content:60% (3) aeration rate: 0.4VVM (4) particle size (rice straw): 3cm (±0.5cm) (5) inoculum size: 5% (6) mixed ratio of rice straw to sludge: 1:3─1:5

A method of predicting state of charge (SOC) of dynamic loading battery by using fuzzy theory is introduced in this thesis. Three kinds of well-known current waveforms, sine, square, and saw-tooth, will be considered as dynamic loadings. The idea comes from the real energy consumption of an automobile battery is dynamic also. At first, some loading conditions, such as constant-current and the three well-known dynamic loadings were used in experiments where voltages and voltage variations of batteries were recorded as reference data. Base on the reference data, a fuzzy SOC predicting method was organized. Then, the method was verified by using other dynamic conditions with different frequencies. Actually, the SOC predicting for dynamic loadings is very complicated and not many researchers touched on this topic. After a lot of efforts have been done, we find the best accuracy of our SOC predicting method for dynamic loading experiments in this thesis is approaches 93%.

Since 1949, each regime of the two sides sepereted by the Taiwan strait dominates it’s own territory, and the relationship between the afore-sides has been in a state of military conflict and cold war for a long period. In fact,Taiwan and Beijing exist respectively for fifty years with which two states formed. Yet, owing to the rigid " One-China Policy," there is still no unanimous recognition of the cross-strait relationship from the point of international law. For half century , the fact that can not be denied is the co-existence of “two separate sovereignties with political entity respectively” containing deep structural ideology, and formed by history. From the past until now, Beijing has been trying to force the international community to consider it as the only political entity in China, and at the same time alienating Taiwan from the connections with other countries, which worsened the relationship between two sides of the strait. Worst of all, in September 1996 Qian Qichen(錢其琛), the former Foreign Minister of P.R.C., announced the " Three Phases of One China," which further alienated interactions between two sides of the strait. On July 9, 1999, the former President Lee Ten-hui(李登輝), when interviewed by the German media Deutsche Welle, defined the cross-strait relationship as " Special State-To-State Relationship", which triggered international and domestic discussion , as well as us government’s suspition and Beijing’s criticism.”. The Mainland China deemed it as a “creator of two chinas”and“damage to cross —strait relationships”,also took verbal attack and military intimidation against Taiwan. On March 18, 2000, Chen Shui-Bian(陳水扁),inclined to Taiwan independence, was elected to be new President of the R.O.C.. In order to placate Beijing, he instantly proclaimed the idea of " special state-to-state relationship" would not be included in the constitution. Director of Mainland Affairs council, Tsai Ing-Wen(蔡英文), also sustains the same idea in order not to aggravate relationship between two sides of the strait. Will the new government improve the relationship with Beijing? And which course are Taiwan and Beijing going for in the end? All these above questions will be discussed in the paper. The main purposes of this thesis are as follows 1.what are the back ground and strategic connotation of “special state-to-state relationship”? 2.The strategy and influences of PRC’s literal attack and military threat Taiwan after “special state-to-state relationship” idea released. 3.What are the influences on cross-strait exchange caused by “special state-to-state relationship”? 4.To what extend was the Taiwan-Washington-Beijing trilateral relationship affected? what are their repercussions? 5.What are the effects on Taiwan businessman who invest in Mainland China after“special state-to-state relationship”. 6.What are the effects on cross-strait relationship since the emergence of new government?
