Abstract:
The paper analyses regional startup ecosystems in South-East Europe and policy measures implemented in individual ecosystems. It shows that different startup ecosystems have different levels of support measures and different levels of success in creating, growing and retaining local startups and attracting startups from other regions. Results show that policy-makers can help create attractive ecosystems and thus create business environments that can greatly enhance the attraction of their ecosystem for domestic startup and attract foreign startups. If successful, this can result in a virtuous circle of constantly increasing attractiveness of a regional startup ecosystem.

Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the development of startup business in Indonesia which is facing legal and regulatory barriers, namely legal issues, taxation, employment, intellectual property rights. By using a conceptual and empirical approach, the results showed that the fundamental legal problem faced by startup business in Indonesia is about the legality of establishing a startup business. Moreover, it relates to the legal standing of a business entity and its legal accountability. The theoretical implication of the findings underlines the startup business settings which are in need to be developed in the realm of economic law that leads to the regulation and legal thinking of ways to support the national economy. The practical implications suggest the development of startup business as a pioneering business entity in the field of commerce based on entrepreneurship and the internet economy.

Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to identify the key factors in User Generated Content (UGC) on the Twitter social network for the creation of successful startups, as well as to identify factors for sustainable startups and business models. New technologies were used in the proposed research methodology to identify the key factors for the success of startup projects. First, a Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) model was used, which is a state-of-the-art thematic modeling tool that works in Python and determines the database topic by analyzing tweets for the #Startups hashtag on Twitter (n = 35.401 tweets). Secondly, a Sentiment Analysis was performed with a Supervised Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm that works with Machine Learning in Python. This was applied to the LDA results to divide the identified startup topics into negative, positive, and neutral sentiments. Thirdly, a Textual Analysis was carried out on the topics in each sentiment with Text Data Mining techniques using Nvivo software. This research has detected that the topics with positive feelings for the identification of key factors for the startup business success are startup tools, technology-based startup, the attitude of the founders, and the startup methodology development. The negative topics are the frameworks and programming languages, type of job offers, and the business angels’ requirements. The identified neutral topics are the development of the business plan, the type of startup project, and the incubator’s and startup’s geolocation. The limitations of the investigation are the number of tweets in the analyzed sample and the limited time horizon. Future lines of research could improve the methodology used to determine key factors for the creation of successful startups and could also study sustainable issues.

Abstract:
Technology startups are important regional economic engines that are recognized as drivers of sustainable economic growth. Understanding the factors that influence their success is of interest both to the scientific community and to practitioners. However, there is currently no consensus in the literature on how to define the success of a technology startup. Startup success has multiple dimensions and different theoretical approaches and empirical contexts. Therefore, in the present work, our aim is to identify ways of measuring the success of a technology startup. Using a review of the literature and interviews with entrepreneurs and venture capital investors, we identified two common success indicators: achieving significant revenue and obtaining financing. We then analyzed the factors that have the greatest impact on startup success using 340 startups. We used a multivariate model based on independent econometric estimates for each of the two ways of defining the success of a technology startup. The main conclusion is that there are four factors that have a significant influence on the two ways of measuring success: the location of the startup, the promoting partners’ dedication, the age of the company, and the existence of nonpromoting partners.

This paper will discuss the initial public offering (IPO) for startup companies. Case study of PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa Go-Jek. The discussion in this paper will emphasize startups and their comparison with IPOs in ordinary companies (Case Study PT Jasa Armada Indonesia, Tbk) and other startup companies, namely PT Kioson Commercial Indonesia, Tbk) in 2017. A qualitative approach with normative descriptive and benchmark method is used to analyze the problem mention above. This research finds that in general, public regulations and general guidance in Law Number 8 of 1995 concerning the Capital Market and other related regulations sufficient to meet the requirements of going public for public companies. But with the development of startup companies in Indonesia, especially PT Aplikasi Karya Anak Bangsa (Go-Jek), planning to conduct an initial public offering encourages the government to immediately make decisions on the initial public offering process rules so that these arrangements will not only reach ordinary companies with the number of assets large but also able to reach start-up companies to contribute to the development of the national economy.

Abstract:
The process of the global constitutianalization has been started by the European civilization (English constitutional acts of the second half of the 17th century). Maturation of the constitutionalism is a part of the social development during the industrial period. The constitution in its classical form should be free of any social estates influence and political inequality. The constitutianalization of Europe in the rough was completed by the end of the 20th century. Russia became a nominal constitution as one of the last great European powers. To make an objective analysis, we should compare Russia with equal intercontinental countries: the European Powers with their colonies. All of these states never had an all-national constitutional act. Thus the Russian “Fundamental laws” from the 23th of April 1906 were at the level of the most big countries having a European metropolis, moreover they surpassed them, because the written fundamental law was an empire-wide act, however, their proper constitutional provisions did not apply to all the patrials. The constitutional component of the Russian fundamental law corresponded the baseline of European constitutionalism of the turn of the 19th–20th centuries: a dualistic monarchy.

Abstract:
Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the disruption of the global economic sector, including for startup businesses. This encourages entrepreneurs to carry out a continuous innovation process to become more ambidextrous and continue to innovate in an effort to futureproof their business. The paper aims to provide a business resilience framework by exploring capability (innovation ambidexterity, dynamic capability, and technology capability), behavior (agile leadership), and knowledge (knowledge stock) in startup businesses. This study uses a literature review synthesis to gain a greater understanding of startup resilience and its implementation. This study also uses a case study approach in building a framework by obtaining data from semi-structured interviews with three startups owners in Indonesia. This preliminary research has identified four propositions that will be used to develop questionnaires and data collection instruments. Thus, this study provides new insights on how startups can overcome contradictory pressures for business resilience in anticipating, dealing with, and emerging from business turbulence due to the Covid-19 pandemic by considering the factors proposed in this study. The implications and recommendations of this study are also discussed in detail.

Abstract:
Many studies have analyzed empirically the determinants of survival for innovative startup companies using data about the characteristics of entrepreneurs and management or focusing on firm- and industry-specific variables. However, no attempts have been made so far to assess the role of the environmental sustainability of the production process. Based on data describing the characteristics of the Italian innovative startups in the period 2009–2018, this article studies the differences in survival between green and non-green companies. We show that, while controlling for other confounding factors, startups characterized by a green production process tend to survive longer than their counterparts. In particular, we estimate that a green innovative startup is more than twice as likely to survive than a non-green one. This evidence may support the idea that environmental sustainability can help economic development.

Abstract:
Brazilian Startup Law for computing technology. The main challenge of this essay is to understand the Law applicable to Software and Internet Startups. We explore the challenges and obstacles of the economic phenomenon of the Startup company upon the Brazilian Legal System. First, in the conceptual dimension, we search the historical context and select Startup definitions from different points of view. In the sequence, we elaborate our own understanding, characterizing the Startup as a complex institutional arrangement. Second, in the juridical-legal dimension, we identify, organize and describe common legal issues related to the life cycle of the Brazilian Startups. Thirdly, in the strategic dimension, we began mapping the legal pathway of those who seek economic activity as a Startup company in our country and offer a strategic approach (diagram) to the legal issues applicable to Startups. At the end of this essay, we conclude that the Startup, as a recent economic phenomenon, has its own dynamism that Brazilian law governs but does not understand.

Abstract:
What specific factors contribute to Silicon Valley’s world-renowned success as a high technology district? How significant is California’s rejection of specific regulation restricting the mobility of technical professionals via the nullification of all non-compete agreements? Using in-depth interviews with entrepreneurs seeking to start their own companies, I argue that the ability to effectively ignore non-compete agreements in Silicon Valley is a critical yet understudied premise underlying Silicon Valley’s success. Scholars seeking to understand Silicon Valley’s global success and continuing allure must turn their attention to the effects of this regulation. My findings suggest that an analysis not only of these regulations but of the lack of enforcement around such regulations needs to be a central focus in understanding how Silicon Valley emerged as a high technological powerhouse.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
This research work has the purpose of investigating the relevance of startups as dynamic agents for the development of incipient economies. For this reason, we seek to determine the useful value of startups in the financial development of incipient economies through bibliographic research of academic articles. In our study, we review some definitions and scopes of startups. We also determine the main characteristics of incipient economies and explain the main contributions of startups. In addition, we determine the financial relevance and impact of startups in these types of economies. The scope of our study addresses the advancement of the use of technology and innovation where an important growth of startups as business alternatives is observed. In recent years, startups have developed business models for solving social problems. However, incipient economies face some challenges to these changes, due to insufficient government policies, lack of business support, among others, for the creation of startups. This paper contributes to the limited current literature on the role of startups in developing economies and opens a debate on the real impact of startups on the economic development of countries. Finally, it is proposed that future research deepen this discussion and thereby build a theoretical framework that provides value to the decision-making of future entrepreneurs. Another contribution is to provide relevant information to those responsible for government policies to promote entrepreneurship in incipient economies.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The so called "Startup Act" (Decree Law 179/2012, converted into Law 221/2012), has introduced in Italy the notion of innovative companies with a high technological value, denoted as the innovative startups. Among them, the Italian government includes the category of SIAVS ("Startup Innovative A Vocazione Sociale"), which represents a relatively new field of interest in both scientific and normative perspective. A social startup must satisfy the same requirement of other innovative startups, usually operating in sectors such as social assistance, education, health, social tourism and culture which can have a direct (social) impact on collective well-being. Furthermore, they must produce specific reporting of the produced social impact, enjoying also some tax benefits. In 2020 more than 200 SIAVS are registered in Italy, more than doubled with respect to 2015. This work is concerned with the empirical analysis of innovative companies focused in funding and implementing solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues. Specifically, the aim of the paper is to investigate what are the relevant factors for the arise of SIAVS in Italy. The response variable is based on the number of active social startups in Italian provinces while the set of explanatory variables is composed by economic and demographic indicators at the provincial level. Generalized linear models (GLM) for discrete outcomes are applied and compared, even taking into account the zero-inflated issue arising due to the distribution of these particular data.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the intersection of international refugee law and international statelessness law. While refugee law, policy, doctrine, and research evolved, it was not until after the turn of the twenty-first century that international statelessness law started to draw much attention and to begin to emerge as a field of its own. As global interest in statelessness grows, the interaction between statelessness and forced displacement has also come back under the spotlight. Thus, the chapter provides an insight into the relationship between statelessness and forced displacement. It starts by unpacking how statelessness can manifest itself as a cause or consequence of displacement, as well as how statelessness can be a complicating factor for refugee protection and durable solutions. The chapter then offers a brief overview of key norms relating to the protection of stateless persons and the prevention and resolution of statelessness, setting out the contours of international statelessness law. It also looks at the implications of the statelessness–displacement nexus by exploring the conceptual and practical questions that arise when a refugee is also stateless, and when a stateless person is also a refugee.

Full text
Abstract:
In this paper, experimental investigations on the heat transfer characteristics of OHP with ethanol as working fluid were conducted. The experimental results show that there exists a necessary temperature difference between evaporator and condenser section to keep the heat pipe working. The minimum temperature differences for the optimal operating conditions varied from 1.5 to 2.0°C. The maximum effective conductivity achieved could reach up to 111kW/m•°C. The heat pipe was obviously affected by the filling ratio in some cases but the influence law is irregular and related to inclination angles and heating temperatures. Not all OHPs operated well in the limiting case of a zero inclination angle. In most cases, the optimal value of the inclination angle went up when the heating temperature increased. An appropriate high heating temperature is helpful for the OHP to achieved excellent performances. The startup temperature varied from 40°C to 50°C without considering the horizontal heating mode.

Full text
Abstract:
The isotope Xe-135 has a large thermal neutron absorption cross section and is considered to be the most important fission product. A very small amount of such neutron poison may significantly affect the reactor reactivity since they will absorb the neutrons from chain reaction, therefore monitoring their atomic density variation during reactor operation is extremely important. In a molten reactor system, Xe-135 is entrained in the liquid fuel and continuously circulates through the core where the neutron irradiation functions and the external core where only nuclei decay occurs, at the same time, an off-gas removal system operates for online removing Xe-135 through helium bubbling. These unique features of MSR complicate the Xe-135 dynamic behaviors, and the calculation method applied in the solid fuel reactor system is not suitable. From this point, we firstly analytically deduce the nuclei evolution law of Xe-135 in the flowing salt with an off-gas removal system functioning. A study of Xe-135 dynamic behavior with the core power change, shutdown, helium bubbling failure and startup then is conducted, and several valuable conclusions are obtained for MSR design.

Abstract:
A catalytic combustion system has high potential to achieve low NOx emission level. When this combustion system is applied to a gas turbine, the required combustor performance must be maintained over a wide range of operating conditions. These conditions range from cold starting to steady-state operation. Particularly during the initial stage of cold starting when the catalyst is not yet activated, the catalyst must be heated by some means. This study proposes a new concept of a catalytic combustor with a direct heating system using vaporizing tube for starting burner in order to downsize the combustor and reduce the warm-up time during cold starts. The effectiveness of this concept is experimentally verified. Furthermore, NOx, CO, and HC emissions during startup can be reduced to a low level so as to achieve ultra-low pollution of the catalytic combustion over a wide range of operating conditions from cold start to steady-state operation. This paper outlines the operation concept covering cold start, verification of the concept through the experiments with flame visualization in the combustor, spray characteristics, construction of the combustor, and combustion characteristics that show low pollution in various operating conditions of the catalytic combustor.

Full text
Abstract:
Zambians in all walks of life are affected by malnutrition, and working through human rights is one key way to address this injustice. Based on research aiming to understand how a ‘right to nutrition’ is perceived by different actors globally and in Zambia, this brief presents a clear framework for a rights-based approach to nutrition in Zambia. This framework identifies rhetorical, legal and practical functions of human rights, and offers a way to think through clearly how different actors might work on the different aspects of rights. Addressing these three aspects of a right to nutrition all together – instead of by very separate constituencies as happens now – is fundamental to a coherent rights-based approach to nutrition. This brief outlines which actors need to come together – from law and policy, activism and communities, across global, national and local levels – and suggests how to start. It lays out the Zambian policy, legal and practical environment as it stands, and suggests actions to move forward in each of these areas in ways that are consistent with the different aspects of rights. Through these steps, Zambia can become known as a hub of action on a right to nutrition, to join with others in using human rights to address the injustice of malnutrition.

Full text
Abstract:
Raising captive animals past critical mortality stages for eventual release (head-starting) is a common conservation tactic. Counterintuitively, post-release survival can be low. Post-release behavior affecting survival could be influenced by captive-rearing duration and housing conditions. Practitioners have adopted environmental enrichment to promote natural behaviors during head-starting such as raising animals in naturalistic enclosures. Using 32 captive-born turtles (Terrapene carolina), half of which were raised in enriched enclosures, we employed a factorial design to explore how enrichment and rearing duration affected post-release growth, behavior, and survival. Six turtles in each treatment (enriched or unenriched) were head-started for nine months (cohort one). Ten turtles in each treatment were head-started for 21 months (cohort two). At the conclusion of captive-rearing, turtles in cohort two were overall larger than cohort one, but unenriched turtles were generally larger than enriched turtles within each cohort. Once released, enriched turtles grew faster than unenriched turtles in cohort two, but we otherwise found minimal evidence suggesting enrichment affected post-release survival or behavior. Our findings suggest attaining larger body sizes from longer captive-rearing periods to enable greater movement and alleviate susceptibility to predation (the primary cause of death) could be more effective than environmental enrichment alone in chelonian head-starting programs where substantial predation could hinder success.
