Full textStart-up defined as a transitional state during which an individual or a group of individuals in need of resources and under conditions of high uncertainty are looking for a scalable business model and must face many challenges. Collaborations with mature companies appear to be a catalyst for the development of these young innovative companies. Supporting for the majority of them by incubators, this thesis proposes to dive into the practices of these structures with the entrepreneurs followed on the subject of collaboration. First, and through an empirical methodology based on a case study, we show that collaborations impact start-ups by driving significant business model changes throughout their development. Once this observation has been established, our second empirical study on a population of incubators in France shows that there is no general trend in support practices on the subject of collaboration. At the same time, it is clear that within the structures themselves, each practice is dependent on the support person. Thus, each of the structures is characterized by an absence of harmony between the different practices. Our results first highlight the impacts that collaborations can have on the development of the start-up through the changes in the Business Model they generate. In a second step, our study allows us to better understand the different support practices implemented by incubators and to propose recommendations for the managers of support structures

Startups caused increased interest by entrepreneurship, being seen as an alternative to achieve success, money and prestige through creative business, with great potential for profitability but also high risk. It's increasing the recognition importance of stimulating the creation of technology-based companies to an element important for developing countries, stimulating competitiveness and creativity in markets through innovation. This ecosystem includes, according to OECD (2015b), a number of factors such as regulation, access to investments, appropriate market conditions, entrepreneurial culture, knowledge production and dissemination. This study aims to analyze and compare the acceleration mechanisms of government programs for encouraging startups Start-up Brazil and Start-Up Chile, contribute to their evolution, and, as far as possible, contribute to the studies of encouraging entrepreneurship in emerging markets. The research strategy used was the study of multiple cases, and the programs analyzed as single cases. To collect data, we used desk research, interviews with entrepreneurs who have gone through the acceleration process of each of them and members of their teams’ acceleration. The narrative of cases remained the concern of data triangulation and shows the different understandings of the parties regarding the mechanisms used by the programs. Following, a cross analysis of cases was performed. In it, the programs’ contributions were compared and were listed suggestions for their evolution. The results showed that the acceleration mechanisms adopted by the programs, are supportive to the startups performance and that Start-Up Brasil e Start-Up Chile generally played important roles in their trajectories. After analyzing the programs operating modes and study the suggestions for improvement made by the respondents, it was possible to list suggestions for actions in each of its mechanisms.

Production start-up data is consistently utilized in a reactive manner during the initial stages of a product's lifecycle. However, if proactive information systems are created before full scale production starts, ramp-up cycles can be shortened considerably. This project attempts to develop a framework for analyzing process data quickly and efficiently during a new product start-up in order to provide information for the short term goals relating to attaining stable processes as well as provide guidance on long term handles for process improvement. First, a summary of previous literature regarding start-up process data as well as typical stable process data usage will be presented. This will provide adequate background for evaluating typical gaps present during production ramp-up. Then, solutions to these gaps will be discussed in order to develop tools for better data analysis in shorter periods of time. These methods will then be applied to a case study involving the. new production of Kodak's DCS Pro 14N digital camera. The Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14N was an amazing leap in technology: a camera with double the resolution for roughly half the price of any product available. Unfortunately, it soon became apparent that the original demand estimates were grossly underestimated, straining original resource allocations. Manufacturing struggled to start and was already a year behind in backorders. With over 1.500 process attributes collected on each camera, the key drivers of quality had yet to be determined. The surrounding circumstances made the quick analysis of start-up data vital to effective resource management and yield improvement of the camera.
(cont.) After using the new process modeling framework and modified control techniques on the example Kodak case, two additional topics will be discussed. First, the many classifications of return on investment in proactive start-up data analysis will be presented. Ranging from waste minimization to higher customer satisfaction, these incentives justify early preparation for start- up data analysis. Finally, future areas of study will be recommended to augment the findings within the thesis.

In Brazil, and more recently in the city of Fortaleza, there is a new form of entrepreneurship that is focused on the information and communication technology service sector and that draws the attention of young people, investors, governments, authors and media companies: it is known as the start-up movement. Today, it is considered to be a driving force behind the creative economy. Rooted on progressive discourse, the words enterprise and innovation seduce new economic agents motivated by success stories from Silicon Valley in America along with increasing commercial activity for digital goods and services. This master’s dissertation assesses, from a sociological point of view, the new productive wave problematized by the light of Manuel Castells’ informational capitalism. Considering the skeptical as well as the optimistic opinions about the impact of this new entrepreneurial rearrangement, the following question is asked: does the startup movement rekindle the capitalist spirit or does it present roots which divert from its speculating essence? The raised hypotheses are based on employability factors as well as cultural, economical, and political matters related to innovation and technology. This study has produced a nationwide quantitative assessment with a special focus on the reality of these Ceará firms; as well as comparative qualitative interviews on American and Brazilian experiences lived by identified agents. This dissertation outlines the public incentive policy of the federal government, the Start-up Brasil Program, from the perspective of these companies and provides details as to the discipline methods of the new enterprising way born in the United States. The startups are very young companies that are headed towards the economic sustainment of the productive sector services. These companies are dropping the seeds that will produce the re-enchantment of young people and bring them back to participation in political debate; they provide relief and reheats the job market; and they produce a democratization of the entrepreneurial “Do-It-Yourself” culture. They capitalize the pivot of the wall street wolves and of agents being charged for new masks. There are developmental logic’s prophylaxis in the face of dreadful innovation stagnation. The lack of continuity in Brazilian governmental politics and cultural nuances related to entrepreneurship are barring the desired regional success of this ecosystem.

In a continuous survival effort, corporations search for different ways to expand their business within the market in which they already operate, or within new desired markets. To reach their objectives, the employees innovate through their initiatives, an act called corporate entrepreneurship. There are many ways that corporates can have an entrepreneurial behaviour, such as through the acquisition of another company. When acquiring a different company, a corporation has as its motivation the desire of some new attributes that either complement or will be part of their indicial objectives. After the acquisition, the integration process between the two (or more) partners is often complicated and painful. The aim of this study is to identify; what are the buying motivations, the problems encountered during the merging process of merge between the partners, and the lessons learned by big/medium corporations when acquiring a Start-up. There is a vast amount of literature concerning the acquisition by big corporations but, when talking about the acquisition of start-ups, one discovers an unexplored gap due to a lack of literature on this subject. The results of this study have been collected through in-depth interviews with employees and entrepreneurs that have taken part in the entire process of acquisition of SAMURAI by Momentum and of Save-me by Buscapé. The results are six suggestions of topics that should be taken into consideration by big/medium corporations when taking the decision of acquiring a start-up: (i) The client base of the acquired company should be previously considered; (ii) a closer contact between the management of both companies before the acquisition is crucial; (iii) hiring a consultancy company to advise during the merge process can be primordial; (iv) the entrepreneur has a central importance for the future of the merged firm; (v) the integration mode has to be carefully choice having the (iv) creation of a corporate venture as a great choice to be consider.

Full textTo carry out the research, this study offers a conceptual model linking initial network start-up success to initial network structure of start-up, and including an interaction effect from the entrepreneur’s networking capability. The study operationalizes social capital in four types of network constructs: network size, trustworthiness, network support and network diversity. A series of hypotheses relating to these four dimensions asserting external network determinants of the start-up success of small firms is posited. Other hypotheses which assert the interaction effect between an entrepreneur’s networking capability and the initial network structure on the success of small firm start-up, are also posited. A field survey, administered to 1,000 small Hong Kong firms of various industries, is used to gather the data. The questionnaire survey was developed in two languages – Chinese and English – to ensure a good level of understanding in the bilingual business environment of Hong Kong. Of the 1,000 questionnaires dispatched, a final sample of 89 small firms was used to empirically test the hypotheses using multiple regression analysis and multiple hierarchical regression analysis. Control variables such as entrepreneurs’ experiences and education prior to the firm start-up are included.
Empirical results indicate that the verification of social capital theory’s prescription for start-up success cannot be supported unequivocally. The results suggest that some initial network conditions such as initial size of strong tie network, network support and network diversity are positively associated with some measures of start-up success, but trustworthiness of network ties and the size of weak tie network do not figure among them. No evidence is found to support that entrepreneurs’ networking capability can positively enhance the effect of the initial network structure on start-up success. Overall, the study raises some questions on the positive linear relationship of certain operationalized constructs such as network size and trustworthiness of social capital with start-up success. Following the findings of this research, future studies may choose to further investigate social capital theory on small start-up success by refining the operationalization of social capital, and verify other interaction effects of entrepreneurs’ networking capabilities.

sonami AG is a company that is located in the Principality of Liechtenstein. It was founded in 2007. Since then it didn’t gain many customers and it is questionable how long the?company will be able to survive with having that few customers. In order to get rid of the current situation and to achieve a sustainable expansion strategy in the long run sonami asked us for help. The question thus is; how would an international expansion strategy look like.
In order to answer this question a case study approach was used. Four successful micro companies were interviewed and asked about their international strategy and their recommendations for expanding abroad.
In addition internationalization literature has been reviewed. Furthermore the concept of strategy, strategic planning and strategic management has been discussed. In the end a framework for sonami was developed. Different approaches, mixed with different recommendations and insights of the case studies were used to develop it.
The result is that sonami has major problems internally, which should be solved before entering any international path. Our developed framework names several pre‐requisites that need to be fulfilled before moving on to the next step. We have tried to generate a deliberate strategy for sonami. We also recommended sonami to take advantage of opportunities given. This would however mean that sonami would then follow an emergent strategy.??
