Abstract:
Purpose According to the ISO 9001 standard, all the certified companies should calibrate their measuring equipment. By doing so, companies can guarantee, with rigor and quality, its measurement and use reliable data for monitoring the quality of their products. However, a metrology laboratory is not required to have an ISO 9001 certification or ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation. At this moment, there are companies with their quality management systems certified according to the ISO 9001 standard which have metrology laboratories to make internal checks of their measuring equipment. On the other hand, there are companies with ISO/IEC 17025-accredited laboratories. Finally, there are companies that have their QMS certified according to ISO 9001 and also their metrology laboratory accredited by ISO/IEC 17025. In this case the metrology laboratory must comply with the requirements of both standards. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the level of importance of the ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards from the perspective of a metrology laboratory. Design/methodology/approach The research methodology used to conduct this research was supported in case studies that had been carried out in nine metrology laboratories. The information was gathered based on semi-structured interviews. Findings After an analysis and discussion over the data obtained, the authors verified that the impact on customer perception is significantly positive, if the metrology laboratory is simultaneous certified and accredited. Originality/value From the laboratories perspective, the issue analyzed in this paper is of the utmost importance and the aim is to give the contribution in order to clarify this kind of organizations of which could be the best option for their context.

It is vital to remember that there are numerous kinds of standards compliant with the ISO 9001 standard. ISO 9001 standard is one of many pro-quality solutions adopted in companies worldwide. Starting to apply pro-quality solutions in an organization, in particular the ISO 9001 standard implementation, is up to the decision making body. The analyses also show that the ISO 9001 standard meets the requirements of decision-making body. This trend is positive and continues to increase. Therefore, it is likely to forecast that the implementation dynamics will still be increasing in the near future.

Abstract:
Abstract The goal of this paper is an evaluation of research aimed at corrosion and mechanical resistance of the so-called duplex system applied to a steel sheet. This system consists of a metal coating applied by hot-dip galvanising, to which an acrylic, water-soluble paint is commonly applied (commonly available on the Czech market) using standard technology in an air stream. For the purposes of the corrosion resistance comparison, one set of test specimens is provided only with a hot-dip galvanised coating. The mechanical resistance of applied anti-corrosion protection was determined by means of a pull-off adhesion test (according to the ČSN EN ISO 4624 standard), as well as an indentation test (according to the ČSN EN ISO 1520 standard). The corrosion resistance tests were then conducted in a salt spray environment (according to the ČSN EN ISO 9227 standard) for the samples not damaged by mechanical tests. Based on the obtained results, in general, waterborne paints with high dry matter content, low specific gravity and high zinc phosphate content, which are applied in several thinner layers, can be recommended.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of the motivation to adopt International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001 on both the internalization of the standard, namely the active day-to-day use of its main underlying practices, and the benefits obtained from its adoption. Similarly, the influence of the internalization on the benefits derived from ISO 9001 is analyzed. Design/methodology/approach – A longitudinal survey was carried out on a sample of 110 Spanish organizations that adopted the standard in its early phase of dissemination. These organizations were surveyed in 1999 and, 12 years later, in 2011. Findings – The results show that, contrary to the results of previous research work, early adopters driven by internal motives experience neither higher levels of internalization of ISO 9001 nor higher benefits from adoption of the standard. Nevertheless, there is clear evidence that in the long run a higher level of internalization leads to greater benefits from the adoption of ISO 9001. Originality/value – The adoption of ISO 9001 is a dynamic process in which certificating organizations play an important role.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the experience of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 certified companies, examining their motivations to introduce the standard and their perceived benefits and barriers. In parallel, the research investigated the knowledge and perception of ISO 9004 guideline, analyzing if it could give an added value to certified companies. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire was proposed by e-mail to 2,581 Italian ISO 9001 certified companies from January 18 to March 31, 2016; 522 companies participated to the survey. Findings Companies of different size have been driven by different motivations to certification, reaching different types of benefits, while both large and small ones perceived the greater bureaucratization as an obstacle. The ISO 9004 standard is little known and applied among Italian companies, but the ones which adopted it benefited from it. Research limitations/implications A limitation may be derived from the fact that the sample was composed only of Italian companies, although this effect was to understand perceptions and trends of these international standards in the Italian reality. Practical implications Analyzing perceived advantages and disadvantages of ISO 9001 and 9004 could be crucial for managers to understand if their joint use is the right strategy to gain competitiveness in the reference markets. Originality/value Compared to previous studies in which ISO 9001 was evaluated as a stand-alone standard, the research made a comparative evaluation with ISO 9004, as ISO considers them to be “consistent pair of standards,” covering the literature gap about the effectiveness of the joint use of them.

This article examines international studies on the standardization of quality management systems in higher education, namely: a comparison of The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards and the provisions of the Standards and Recommendations for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (The Standards) and guidelines for quality assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG). The standards ISO 9001, ISO 9001: 2000, ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 21001 have been analyzed. The article analyzes the study of the interaction of ISO standards and the provisions of ESG investigated that presented in the works of S.Ortega, N.Señal, L.Velón Sixto "Experiments using iso 9001 to meet ESG in three spanish agencies"; A.Jambor, M.Dzubakova, J.Habanbk «Integration of ESG 2015 and ISO 9001: 2015 standards in higher education organization (case study)»; F.Camilleri «Standardizing Management Systems for Educational Organizations: Implications for European Higher Education». The study concludes that ISO 9001 standards for quality management systems enable institutions to create a quality assurance system and improve basic quality assurance processes. The ISO 9001 quality management system standard is a good tool for organizations to improve their internal quality assurance system and to be aware of their processes. Scientists say ISO 9001 provides ESG standards with an adequate system to support effective quality improvement. It is positive that the international ISO standard and ESG provisions for the establishment of a quality assurance system in higher education are in the mix. The ISO 21001 series "Educational Organizations –Management Systems for Educational Organizations" provides a methodological component and a typical industry template from the beginning of monitoring to the release of results, including preparatory work on assessment planning, questionnaire development, questionnaires, results processing, problem determination and options, further monitoring of performance. In higher education, ISO 21001 may not be seen as a competitor or replacement for ESG, but as an additional tool that can help educational organizations demonstrate their commitment to effective educational management practices.

This research was conducted to find problems and recommendations for improvement regarding the application of QMS which combines SPMI and ISO 9001: 2015 at SMK. This research is a qualitative research with a case study at SMK Negeri 2 Magelang. Research data are documents related to the application of SPMI and ISO 9001: 2015 at SMK Negeri 2 Magelang obtained from interviews with representatives of quality management (WMM), the ISO WMM Team, and TPMPS. Data analysis was performed using qualitative methods according to the concepts developed by Miles & Huberman. Three important findings of this study are related to planning, preparation, and implementation. In planning, it is known that the standard determination is not optimal, so it is still necessary to increase understanding of the application of SPMI and ISO 9001: 2015. In the preparation aspect, it was revealed that there were different levels of understanding and some of them were not sufficient for the application of SPMI and ISO 9001: 2015, so that trainings were still needed. The implementation aspect is known that the school has determined the application of a combination of SPMI and ISO 9001: 2015 as the QMS standard.

Abstract:
Purpose International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001: 2015 quality management systems places an obligation on organizations to consider the role of organizational knowledge as a resource. The purpose of this paper is to systematically relate the key fundamentals of knowledge management to the seven quality management principles of ISO 9001: 2015. It is the first to consider this relationship. Design/methodology/approach The paper traces the history of quality standards and the background to the inclusion of an organizational knowledge clause in ISO 9001: 2015. It then systematically considers the seven quality management principles in relation to knowledge management principles. Findings The core elements of the knowledge management standard are incorporated with the organizational knowledge clause. Explicit and tacit knowledge are addressed by the ISO standard. Knowledge and its management will become increasingly important in organizations driven by ISO certification requirements. Research limitations/implications ISO 9001: 2015 was released in September 2015 which means that organizations have yet to apply the organizational knowledge clause. This paper is a conceptual one which needs to be complemented with empirical research. Practical implications This paper identifies the role of knowledge management principles as they apply to ISO 9001: 2015 and the seven quality management principles. More than 1.1 million organizations are certified to ISO 9001, plus many others who use the standard informally. Those involved with organizational quality will need to understand the role of knowledge in the organization. Social implications Quality services and products need to be underpinned with strategic knowledge management. Originality/value This paper is the first to discuss knowledge management in relation to the seven quality management principles which assist the development of policy for quality management.

Abstract:
Abstract: The State Islamic Institute Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin (IAIN STS) Jambi has been applying ISO 9001; 2008 since February 2013. One of previous research findings was the resistance regarding the ISO standards and the certification process. This study was to examine the problem through conducting lecturers’ perception towards ISO 9001; 2008 at IAIN STS Jambi in terms of their awareness, benefits and services. Respondents were lecturers of IAIN STS Jambi as many as 122 people from 4 faculties. The research employed a quantitative survey method that uses a likert-scale questionnaire and analysed with descriptive statistic. The findings show that lecturers’ perception on the application of TQM ISO 9001: 2008 in IAIN STS Jambi included in the group of moderate to high. The mean empirical data (x = 47,30) was higher than the average hypothetical (μ = 42). This indicates that the perception of lecturers on the application of ISO in IAIN STS Jambi is high (positive). Empirical standard deviation (s = 9,910) was higher than the hypothetical standard deviation (σ = 9:33). This shows that the perception of lecturers on the application of ISO 9001: 2008 at IAIN STS Jambi has a high variation. Meanwhile, gender variable has a significant relationship between the perception of ISO 9001: 2008 on improving the quality of teaching. Employment status (fulltime civil employer or non-full-time civil employer) have a significant relationship between the perception of ISO 9001; 2008 for quality of services and quality of coordination.

Abstract:
Abstract The Joint Inspection Group (JIG) standard for aviation fuel quality management assists in the operational process and maintenance of aviation fuel from its point of origin and through distribution systems to airports. Currently, problems arise as the JIG standard and quality management in aviation fuel are isolated and have independent procedures. Merging the JIG standards with ISO 9001:2015 can override original JIG’s philosophy by connecting all quality assessment, and management parties involved, throughout the supply chain. This integration can harmonize auditing tasks, focusing on risk/opportunity, and continue quality improvement focus. This paper proposes a development of quality management system (QMS) under ISO 9001:2015 for aviation fuelling service in a systematic way. The content and critical success factors of ISO 9001:2015 and JIG standards were studied. The beneficial synergies, similarities, and logical linkages between both standards are identified. This QMS was developed in the largest petroleum company in Thailand and 60 selected experts were surveyed, with a response rate of 88.3%, for their agreement on integrated criteria. Two external quality auditors, who have ISO 9001 and JIG expertise, were interviewed to modify our initial proposed QMS. The final QMS was implemented in the into-plane fuelling services as the first phase of this implementation. Results of framework implementation are discussed in a case study. There are mutual benefits resulting from the integration of JIG and ISO 9001:2015 standards. This QMS provides a unified process for quality management practices, and enhances the effectiveness of risk evaluation as well as the opportunity for continued quality improvement. It facilitates the identification of ISO 9001:2015 requirements and establishes relationships between the roles of JIG standard and the clauses of ISO 9001:2015. The first experience from five airports as the pilot study of proposed QMS implementation minimized conflicts and duplications between JIG and ISO 9001:2015 standards, reduced the number of into-plane fuelling service incidents reported, such as oil spill, machine stoppage, re-inspections, and recall costs.

Abstract:
Abstract In their quest to achieve superior performance and business results, organizations have extensively adopted models such as ISO 9001 Quality Managements Standards. Research supports that Quality Management System brings significant benefits for organizations competitiveness and success and more than 1 million organizations of all activity sectors worldwide have implemented ISO 9001. In a world of increasingly complexity and interconnection, the revised ISO 9001:2015 International Standard aims to ensure that Quality Management Systems are flexible while remaining reliable. The concept of Change Management was introduced in the standard and Improvement can be achieved both in a continual/incremental mode (already present in the ISO 9001:2008 edition) and in a breakthrough change/disruptive mode (new in ISO 9001:2015). ISO 9001:2015 is now closer to Business Excellence Models, such as the EFQM, that highlight the need for agility and flexibility for enduring success. To access if organizations that have already implemented ISO 9001:2015 are indeed managing change and achieving improvement, and if there is a relationship between these two variables, a survey was held with IRCA ISO 9001 Registered Auditors on a worldwide basis. Sample normality was confirmed trough Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test and the hypothesis was tested by using Pearson Correlation coefficient. The findings show that the auditee organizations have positively implemented ISO 9001:2015 requirements on change management and improvement. There is also a strong positive correlation between change management and improvement, suggesting that the organizations that properly manage change by planning, designing, implementing, and controlling change in an effective and efficient way, demonstrate a higher level of performance and results improvement. These conclusions have significant implications for the Quality/Organizational Excellence Management Body of Knowledge, requiring a new way of thinking for 21st-century organizations and reinforced attention to change management processes and the skills needed by the Quality/Organizational Excellence Managers professionals, for their successful use.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to initiate researches in the direction of integrating knowledge management (KM) principles with ISO 9001:2008 Supported Quality System and motivate the practitioners to implement such integrated system in real-time practice. Design/methodology/approach – The principles of KM were integrated with the five major clauses of ISO 9001:2000 standard. After designing this integrated system, it was subjected to peripheral implementation study in a government-managed company situated in India. The knowledge portal required for maintaining this integrated system was also developed. Findings – ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 9001:2000 standards rest on the same process-based quality system model which is comprised of five major clauses. Hence, the integrated system proposed in this paper can be utilized by the contemporary organizations to infuse KM principles in ISO 9001:2008 based quality system. Research limitations/implications – Though the integrated system designed in this research could not be implemented in a full-fledged manner, the experiences gained have been useful to indicate the future direction of research and practice for integrating KM principles with ISO 9001:2008 Supported Quality System. Practical implications – A roadmap has been evolved to guide the practitioners to implement Knowledge Managed ISO 9001:2008 Supported Quality System. Originality value – No researcher or practitioner has so far contributed a model integrating the process-based quality system incorporated in ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 9001:2008 standards with KM principles. As this gap is filled in this paper, the contributions of this paper are valuable to both researchers and practitioners.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual auditing framework (CAF), which can help the organizations that experience difficulties with current ISO 9001 auditing to achieve their desired benefits with regard to the auditing of conformance, performance, risk management and improvement collectively. Design/methodology/approach A literature review was undertaken to identify the audit limitations and the program strategies that were reported in literature to overcome these limitations. The relevant audit standard (ISO 9001:2015) and guidelines (ISO 19011:2011 and ISO 19011:2018) have also been reviewed to determine the gap in relation to this purpose. Findings Most of the previous suggestions to overcome the difficulties of the current ISO 9001 auditing were to focus on processes in addition to ISO 9001 clauses and to apply the two principles of “Process Approach” and “Improvement” of ISO 9001, by having the manner of integration of their risk-based thinking concept and Lean Six Sigma (LSS) approaches, respectively, within audit. However, this integration also has limitations such as the desire for implementing risk management program and the necessity for applying LSS approach. Therefore, a CAF was developed to enhance the ISO 9001 quality audit. It suggests the integration of 12 management tools that are connected to the seven principles of ISO 9001:2015 severally and collectively. The selected tools ought to be linked to the audit limitations that have been previously reported in the literature, and connected with the complaints of the organizations that experience difficulties with current ISO 9001 auditing. Auditing of conformance/performance, risk management and improvement in combination can be assured by upgrading, testing and validating this CAF. Originality/value Utilizing the ISO 9001 quality audit in a way that helps organizations to audit performance, risk management and improvement in combination by changing the auditing approach from ISO 9001 elements to ISO 9001 principles and by learning from the experience of business excellence models implementers in development of the Performance measurement frameworks and in converting the concepts and principles into practice.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the benefits of ISO 9001 certification and the association between them, the level of implementation of the critical success factors (CSFs) required for the appropriate functioning of the quality management system in ISO 9001:2008 certified companies and between other demographic variables. Design/methodology/approach – A research project was carried out in Greek companies from all business sectors using the questionnaire technique. The selected companies implement a quality management system in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 standard. Correspondence analysis, a methodology from the field of multidimensional statistics, was used to identify significant differences between the effects on performance and other variables such as the implementation level of CSFs relating to the quality management system and years of certification. Findings – External benefits seem to be more important than internal benefits. The least important benefits were mostly business results, such as profits, costs and market share. Differences were detected between the level of performance and certain demographic variables such as the use of International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) alone, size and years of certification. The certified companies have generally benefited from ISO implementation. Research limitations/implications – The study was based on the perceptions (subjective data) of only one quality manager/representative from each company. The motives for ISO certification, which can seriously affect the benefits derived, were not examined. Practical implications – The measures presented here can be used by certified companies to evaluate performance (financial or not) related to ISO 9001 certification and to discover those factors that contribute to the better exploitation of the ISO 9001:2008 standard. Originality/value – This paper aims to evaluate performance since the implementation of the ISO 9001:2008 standard in Greek companies, which are confronting a tough economic environment and to analyse this data with a methodology from the multidimensional field, with the complementary use of some special tables of coincidence.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of ISO 9001 quality improvement requirements in ISO 9001:2008, i.e. the corrective and preventive actions and internal audit, on customer satisfaction.Design/methodology/approachFor the purposes of the study, data were collected via a survey on 200 aerospace and transportation companies that belong to a Canadian multinational company supply chain. The relationships between the corrective and preventive actions and internal auditing, on the one hand, and customer satisfaction, on the other, were examined via the structural equation modeling technique.FindingsThe major contribution of this study is that it has identified internal audit as the most influential continual improvement ISO 9001 requirement prior to the ISO 9001 transition phase, along with the corrective actions, while the preventive actions in the present formulation do not significantly influence customer satisfaction.Research limitations/implicationsThis study is based on a cross-sectional survey conducted on the supply chain level in the aerospace and transportation sector; hence, a longitudinal study is possible as a future research avenue. The generalizability of this study’s findings is limited to similar supply chains around a multinational company consisted of companies that have at least ISO 9001 standard, but also fulfill other industry-specific requirements. Also, findings are based mainly on quality managers’ attitudes, so future studies are recommended to examine other positions’ views, too.Practical implicationsThis research contributes to the literature and bridges the gap between theory and practice. It could be of value to both the certification bodies and the organizations that are interested in improving customer satisfaction by implementing ISO 9001 in the multinational supply chains context such as the aerospace and transportation sector.Originality/valueWhile the influence of the ISO 9001 standard on customer satisfaction has been the subject of prior research, this is the first time that the simultaneous effect of the corrective and preventive actions and internal auditing on customer satisfaction has been studied. The validity of the removal of preventive actions from ISO 9001:2015 has also been analyzed.

Abstract The purpose of the paper is to analyse and demonstrate the trends in the scope of data concerning the number of ISO 9001 certificates incorporated in companies around the world with consideration of market division into 39 sectors. The study utilised the desk research method for analysing the available sources of data for the studied problem, especially covering their compilation, mutual verification, processing and reasoning. Then, multi-dimensional comparative analyses were conducted for the obtained results within a time framework of 1998-2017. As result of the conducted analyses, leading sectors in particular countries in terms of the number of incorporated ISO 9001 series standards were established. This enabled identifying the tendencies and determining the further directions of change. The paper is original in that it is based on analysing data within an industry framework in the period of nine years, identifying existing trends and establishing specific cases (countries and industries) for which the ISO 9001 standards are common and for which they are a niche.

Abstract:
PurposeTo analyze the effect of an ambidextrous supply chain strategy (ASCS) – i.e. the combination of exploration and exploitation practices – on each of the four dimensions of supply chain flexibility (SCF): information system, operating system, sourcing and distribution flexibility. Further, to evaluate the influence of implementing the ISO 9001 standard on the relationship between ASCS and SCF, and whether this certification directly affects the level of SCF. We ground our model in Resource Orchestration theory.Design/methodology/approachTo perform this study, the authors used data collected from a sample of 145 non-ISO-certified firms and 157 ISO-certified firms.FindingsASCS does not affect all four dimensions of SCF in the same way. Rather, its effect is contingent on the presence of the ISO 9001 certification. An ASCS is shown to have a positive effect on information system flexibility irrespective of the presence of ISO 9001 certification whereas for the other three dimensions of SCF, the effect of ASCS is dependent on ISO 9001 implementation. Meanwhile, ISO 9001 implementation itself does not affect the level of SCF.Practical implicationsManagers can use the findings to configure their supply chain strategy based on the specific dimension(s) of SCF they seek to develop by implementing ASCS. Further, the results inform managers about the incentives for implementing ISO 9001.Originality/valueAlthough prior studies have shown that an ambidextrous strategy enables firms and organizational units to adapt to the environment, there have been few prior studies on ambidexterity in a supply chain context. Further, although the extant literature has suggested that the ISO 9001 may facilitate ambidexterity, this link has remained largely theoretical. In fact, there is very little prior evidence on how the practice of ISO 9001 affects the supply chain.

Abstract:
The number of studies for the future improvement of the standard ISO 9001, which is the most used standard in many areas, is limited. Within this research scope, the number of ISO 9001 certificates registered between 1993 and 2019 in some G20 countries was evaluated, and the number of certificates for 2020-2026 was estimated using the Eviews 11 program. Time series regression and exponential smoothing methods are used in estimation calculation. According to the number of certificates estimated for 2026, country rankings were determined as India (43,947), Brazil (22,744), Canada (11,814), USA (37,235), Mexico (9,977), Argentina (8,433), Russian Federation (1,540), Australia (5,072), South Africa (4,626) and Saudi Arabia (2,785). Changes are expected in Canada, the Russian Federation, Australia and Mexico in 2026 when the 2019 certificate number of countries’ ranking is considered. A decrease in Australia and the Russian Federation’s certificate number was foreseen for 2026. It is thought that the research will contribute to the interpretation of ISO 9001 performance of nine countries and to how the future trend will be shaped.

Purpose ISO 9001 can offer users substantial management benefits. For developing country firms, this standard could offer both important management improvements and serve as a quality signal to foreign suppliers and potential buyers. The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of ISO 9001 on food manufacturing firms in Guyana. Design/methodology/approach A multiple case study approach, using interviews with multiple managers, was used to assess the impacts of ISO 9001 in six registered and non-registered firms. Findings ISO 9001 offers supply chain management benefits. Non-registered firms reported using the standard to formalize their monitoring procedures and improve planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and delivery efficiency. Registration helped firms formalize their quality management systems; it provided guidance on improving their customer/supplier relationships, and offered tools to monitor internal processes. Registered and non-registered firms reported increased customer satisfaction, market share and inventory turnover, and reduced lead times, rework, waste, and customer complaints. Research limitations/implications The number of cases examined in this study is limited. Interview data are based on managers’ perceived experiences; it was not possible to verify this information independently. Originality/value The paper examines management benefits of adopting an international quality management standard in developing country agrifood firms.

Abstract:
AbstractHot-dip galvanized coatings represent a protection based on passivation of the single zinc layer. It is one of the most commonly used surface treatments of steel. However, pure zinc forms merely an insignificant upper layer. Coating crosscut is formed by intermetallic phases that can cause decrease in the level of anticorrosion protection. This results from an iron diffusion from the base material. Goal of this paper is to analyse the changes in the mechanical properties of these phases in relation to zinc coating heat treatment. For the experiment, annealing temperatures of 200 °C and 300 °C were used, and the staying time was set at 1, 3 and 5 hours. Furthermore, samples without any heat treatment were subjected to comparison as well. Moreover, following tests were conducted: bending test in compliance with the ČSN EN ISO 1519 standard, and tearing test (in accordance with the ČSN EN ISO 4624 standard). On the basis of performed tests, the changes in mechanical properties of the zinc coating after heat treatment could be analysed.

Abstract:
Quality of Internal Audit is an activity which is very important and is a requirement in the implementation of ISO 9001:2000 standard, which aims to monitor the quality of the verifying the suitability and effectiveness of the implementation of the system of quality compared to the reference standards and policies that have been determined. Quality of Internal Audit is an assessment process and system to see whether the processes and systems in line with documented procedures and to see the effectiveness of the procedure. By doing this assessment, the company will know the condition or situation at this time. In the end, the results of this audit will be used as a tool / material improvement in the action / prevention of at improvement. Therefore, international standards emphasize the importance of audits as a means of monitoring and verification. ISO 9001:2000 is an international standard for quality management system. ISO 9001:2000 define the requirements and recommendations for the design and evaluation of a quality management system, which has the goal to ensure that an organization will provide products that comply with the requirements specified. The ISO 9001:2000 is only quality management standard and is not a standard product. But expected that the product resulting from international quality management system will has a suitable quality this. Implementation of Internal Audit Quality in the PT. Murni Cahaya Pratama program showed that the Internal Audit Quality is in accordance with plans and procedures. Results of Internal Audit Quality use as the improvement efforts for both systems, processes and products. The quality management system ISO 9001:2000 which is applied in PT. Murni Cahaya Pratama quite effective and efficient. However, there are several things that indicate the occurrence of inefisiensi and inefektivitas, this can be viewed from the inconsistency or the findings found at time internal audit been held of it occurs because human error and the lack of knowledge and understanding of the importance of documentation, especially new employees . Advice from the author on the results of the Internal Quality Audit was done in PT. Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to establish the effect of ISO 9001 implementation on the performance of organizations in Kenya. It specifically targeted organizations listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) which is the leading securities exchange in East Africa. Design/methodology/approach – The survey made use of web content analysis to collect data from these organizations’ web sites. Data were collected on net profit, turnover and net assets over a four-year period (2010-2013). The research used statistical data analysis to investigate the association between ISO 9001 implementation and performance. Findings – Results of the survey reveal that ISO 9001 certification influenced return on net assets of the organizations thereby influencing their performance. There was significant differences in net asset value among organizations with ISO 9001 certification and those that did not possess the certification. On profit and revenue, there were no significant differences between the ISO 9001 certified and non-certified organizations. Research limitations/implications – The research findings are limited to those organizations listed in the NSE and may not be generalized to other organizations. The study is further limited by the number of organizations participating in the study which was 20. Practical implications – The findings of the study provide justification for adoption of ISO 9001 standard in organizations in all key sectors of the Kenyan economy for sustained quality management practices. The ISO 9001 certified companies will enhance their quality management practices to achieve the successes documented in this paper while those yet to embrace the standards will draw lessons from such successes which may offer them compelling arguments to adopt them. Originality/value – Since the adoption and uptake of ISO certification in Kenya over a decade ago, no study has been carried out that directly relates ISO certification to organizational performance. This study will thus be useful as a starting point in documenting the ISO standard’s impact.

Abstract:

Standards that generally must be owned by companies in order to achieve a good management system are ISO 9001 international standards, these standards govern the company's quality management system. PT XYZ is a printing company, this company has obtained the ISO 9001 certification version in 2008. However, there are the latest developments where in September 2015, ISO issued the latest revised standard so that the ISO 9001: 2008 standard is no longer valid. Therefore, PT XYZ is obliged to migrate or change its standards following the latest revised standard requirements, namely ISO 9001:2015 no later than 2018. The method of risk management analysis is carried out by entering identified risks into the risk management form. Furthermore, the risk of failure and its effect is determined by two factors, namely: the magnitude of the impact if a failure occurs, the second is the probability and frequency of failure. After the classification is carried out, the weighting calculation is performed for all identified risks (risk assessment). Identified risks and their weights are entered into the risk register according to priority, where the risk with the highest weight is placed in the top position. Based on the results of high-risk research (H), namely the production process inspection process and the final inspection QC process. For medium risks, there are 3, namely the process of making COAs, the Incoming Material Inspection process, and the process of handling complaints.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the mediating effect of supply chain risk management integration (RMI) on the relationship between supply chain logistics performance (LP) and supply chain cost performance (CP), as well as on the relationship between LP and supply chain service performance (SP). The impact of CP and SP on overall firm performance (FP) is also explored. ISO 9001-certified firms and non-certified firms are assessed to determine whether superior risk-based thinking, as required in the latest ISO 9001 standard, has a positive impact on the different relationships. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical model is developed and tested based on the participation of 140 supply chain managers. The proposed structural equation model positively relates LP, RMI, CP and SP. RMI is positively linked to CP and SP, while CP and SP are positively related to overall FP. Two subsamples (a group of 63 ISO 9001-certified firms and a group of 77 non-certified firms) are used to evaluate the model. Findings For certified and non-certified firms, LP is positively related to RMI, CP and SP, and SP and CP are positively related to FP. However, for certified firms, RMI partially mediates the relationship of LP with both CP and SP, while for non-certified firms, RMI does not mediate these relationships. The findings suggest that ISO 9001-certified firms are able to leverage RMI efforts to impact positively on supply chain performance, whereas non-certified firms are not. Research limitations/implications The study findings are based on the perceptions of managers. Even though the majority of the 63 certified firms included in this study were ISO 9001:2015 certified, the model results do not differentiate between companies certified to the 2008 version of the standard and the 2015 version (which specifically requires demonstration of risk-based thinking). Practical implications This study suggests that ISO 9001 provides a framework for risk management processes and collaboration with supply chain partners to positively impact the relationship of LP with cost and SP. Originality/value This is one of the first studies to characterize the benefits of using a structured approach for risk-based thinking that is associated with ISO 9001.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to compare ISO 9001 certified and non-certified manufacturing companies with regard to performance measures, both financial and non-financial. Design/methodology/approach – A research study was carried out in 140 Greek manufacturing companies by means of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent by e-mail and it was requested that it should be answered by a company representative. Exploratory factor analysis is applied in order to extract the latent factors of performance measures. The differences between the ISO 9001 certified and non-certified manufacturing companies are determined through non-parametric tests such as the χ2-test and the Mann-Whitney U-test. Findings – The ISO 9001 certified manufacturing companies significantly outperform the non-certified with regard to product quality, customer satisfaction, operational, market and financial performance. This is evident in a business environment where an economic downturn and financial crisis dominates. Research limitations/implications – The sub-samples of the responding ISO 9001 certified and non-certified manufacturing companies are small sized and they are limited to small- and medium-sized enterprises. The subjective character of the data collected through the company representatives involves the risk of receiving biased responses regarding the performance measures. The above limitations suggest future research recommendations. Practical implications – The increased performance measures of the ISO 9001 certified manufacturing companies may motivate the non-certified ones to implement the ISO 9001 standard and apply for the certification in order to increase their performance and withstand the current economic downturn and financial crisis. The present study may also stimulate manufacturing companies to adopt traditional and modern benchmarking techniques, in an additional effort to improve their businesses and competitiveness. Originality/value – The present study compares performance measures of ISO 9001 certified and non-certified manufacturing companies operating under unprecedented circumstances due to the current economic downturn and financial crisis.

Abstract:
This paper analyses the applicability of the ISO 9001 standard in higher education institutions (HEIs). The ISO 9001standard, initially developed for application in industry, sets the requirements for implementing a quality management system (QMS) in an organisation. Over the years, the standard has been adapted to the higher education (HE) sector as a model for quality assurance and enhancement. In this study, the standard is analysed based on a framework with the following variables; 1) Importance of the philosophy of the standard in HE, 2) Suitability to HE, 3) Ease of implementation, 4) Effect on quality assurance and enhancement and 5) Effect on quality culture. The mechanisms of how the standard affects quality management are also presented. The analysis shows that ISO 9001 is based on a philosophy that resonates with general approaches to quality assurance in HEIs. The seven principles of the standard provide a good base for an effective QMS. The standard is suitable to HEIs as its provisions can be adapted to the peculiarities of this sector. Although there is some considerable workload exerted by the standard, it can be applied with ease. There is both theoretical and empirical basis for the standard to embolden quality assurance and enhancement in HE. Both academic provision and administrative services can benefit from the standard. The standard can promote and strengthen quality culture in HEIs, more so where staff show deep engagement with the processes of the standard. It is concluded that the ISO 9001 standard provides a framework for a QMS that is applicable to the HE sector.

Abstract:
Indonesia, as a country with intensive skill positions, needs to pay attention to the management of colleges. Standardization and development are essential processes in higher education. These can be achieved through the implementation of total quality management (TQM). The initial steps to achieve TQM in higher education are the 5-S kaizen principles ( Seiri/Sort, Seiton/Set in order, Seiso/Shine, Seiketsu/Standardize, dan Shitsuke/Sustain) and ISO 9000. There are many similarities between the requirements of the quality management system (QMS) standard of ISO 9001 and 5-S principles. Thus, the integration of both systems in higher education is very potential to be implemented. This research was conducted at college Diploma Program. The implementation of 5-S principle integrated with the requirements of ISO 9001 used Analytical Hierarchy Process, Cross-Tabulation Correlation, and Importance Performance Analysis. The results of this research show the priority degree of 5-S principles on ISO 9001 requirements. It is also found that there is a close relationship (correlation value) between each 5-S principle and ISO 9001 requirements, and the results of the performance evaluation of the implementation of the integration system in college.
