Abstract:
Non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) is increasingly prevalent and presents unique challenges to the anesthesiologist. NORA includes procedures performed by gastroenterologists, interventional cardiologists, interventional pulmonologists, radiologists, and surgeons. Members of the anesthesia team must maintain a level of vigilance in the specialized areas where these procedures are performed that is equal to that in a traditional operating room while making accommodations for specialized equipment and rapid turnover. Anesthetic techniques must be chosen so as not to interfere with the proceduralist’s ability to diagnose and treat the underlying problem. In order to ensure optimal safety standards in NORA settings, anesthesiologists should maintain open channels of communication with procedural staff and should become involved in the design and outfitting of NORA locations.

Abstract:
This chapter focuses on the founding of RIAS and how stations in East and West Berlin reported on the Berlin Blockade and Airlift. It shows how RIAS's formative years, from 1946 to 1949, were turbulent ones. Constant tensions existed both within and without the station with regard to what its purpose and responsibility as a radio broadcaster actually were. Personnel problems led to internal discord, rivalries, and frequent staff turnover. The rapidly deteriorating political situation in Berlin, as Allied cooperation collapsed and German political parties quickly aligned themselves with the rival superpowers, both fed and compounded these pressures. From the very beginning the inherent contradictions between objective news and propaganda came to shape the type of station RIAS became and the type of news and programming it broadcasted.

Hemmelgarn, Anthony L., and Charles Glisson. The Impact of ARC in Human Service Organizations. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780190455286.003.0005.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter describes empirical support for the ARC model from multiple randomized controlled trials. These trials describe the effects of ARC on organizational culture and climate, organizational priorities, clinicians’ work attitudes, clinicians’ evidence-based practice behaviors, and most importantly, client outcomes. Both the ARC model and the validity of the OSC measurement system are also supported by a number of non-experimental and quasi-experimental studies. Collectively, these studies describe linkages with OSC and related criteria using regional and nationwide samples that are fundamental to explaining the value of the ARC model. Much of this work is referenced throughout the book. In this chapter, the authors focus on the randomized controlled trials to support causal inferences about the effects of ARC, including impact on client outcomes, staff outcomes such as turnover and engagement, as well as impact on evidence-based practices. The evidence also highlights the implications for using ARC strategies in planned efforts to improve service effectiveness.

Abstract:
Most modern HR practitioners would generally agree that the people in their organization are valuable assets and are as important, if not more important, than the organizationsphysical and intangible assets. The HR (people) assets have been recommended to be measured and linked to accounting reporting mode. Such mode or a discipline that measures human assets and activities is called the Human Resource Costing (HRC). The first part of this monograph highlights previous literatures in explaining concepts, justificationsand potential challenges in implementing HRC. Meanwhile, the second part offers some strategies and examples in measuring costs for selected HR elements such as on-lineselection, turnover, staff development, strike, accidents at workplace, interviews and absenteeism. Notes related to the Balance Scorecard (BSC), as a tool to support HRC implementation indicates a way forward where a framework that translates vision and strategy into financial and non-financial aspects are made toward the end of this monograph.
