Abstract:
Ge-containing silicon oxide (GSO) films (5–15 nm) and Si-rich silicon oxide (SSO) films (5–15 nm) were deposited using the RF magnetron sputtering technique with a Ge–SiO 2 and a Si–SiO 2 composite target, respectively. The Au/GSO/p-Si and Au/SSO/p-Si structures were fabricated and their electroluminescence (EL) characteristics were comparatively studied. Both of the Au/GSO/p-Si and Au/SSO/p-Si structures have rectifying behavior. All the EL spectra from the two types of the structure have almost unchanged peak positions around 650 nm (~1.9 eV) and are independent of applied forward biases. The EL mechanisms for the Au/GSO/p-Si and Au/SSO/p-Si structures have been discussed.

Abstract:
Products obtained from the oxidation of thianthrene 5-oxide, SSO, have been used to compare oxygen transfer mechanisms for three high-valent transition metals. Oxidation of SSO by benzyltriethylammonium permanganate in methylene chloride gives the corresponding sulfone, thianthrene 5,5-dioxide (SSO2), as the exclusive product. Oxidation of SSO by ruthenium tetroxide also gives SSO2 as the predominant product along with minor amounts of the disulfoxide, thianthrene 5,10-dioxide (SOSO). However, the converse is observed when chromyl chloride is used as the oxidant; SOSO is the major product. It is suggested that oxygen transfers from permanganate and ruthenium tetroxide are initiated by complexation between the central metal atom and the oxygen end of the S=O dipole, while oxidation by chromyl chloride is likely initiated by an alternative mechanism, possibly a single electron transfer.

Abstract:
This study focused on phenolic-resin/vitreous-silica-fiber (PR/VSF) ablation composites modified with silsesquioxane (SSO) and tetraethoxysilicate (TEOS). Three nanohybrids based on TEOS-SiO2(T-SiO2), octamethyl-SSO (Me-SSO) and phenyl-SSO (Ph-SSO) were prepared and employed to modify the PR/VSF ablation materials, T-SiO2/PR/VSF, Me-SSO /PR/VSF and Ph-SSO /PR/VSF. At a high temperature, the modified PR/VSiF coatings were melted under heats and then generated pre-ceramic bodies, avoiding damages from the heats for the parts of the body inside. To compare ablation properties of the three modifiers, the correlation of the material structures and ablation properties were discussed with ablation tests and morphology measured by SEM. As a result, the linear and the mass ablation of the three composites are in the order of T-SiO2/PR/VSF > Me-SSO/PR/VSF > Ph-SSO/PR/VSF. Therefore, the properties of Ph-SSO show that it is suitable and more effective as a modifier for ablation materials. In the temprature of about 2000oC, the results of ablative coating basically reached the expected technical indix.

Abstract:
Abstract Subsynchronous Oscillation (SSO) is a common dynamic stability issue in power systems that integrate wind power. This paper proposes a comprehensive method for assessing the localization of SSO in wind power integrated systems. The localization method applies the transient energy flow approach to identify SSO sources in systems with wind power. Additionally, a relevant SSO index system is established where the value of each index is calculated. By using the Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) to judge the index, the SSO disturbance source contribution rating of each area is obtained. Simulation cases demonstrate that the localization method of the transient energy flow approach can effectively identify the SSO disturbance source. Moreover, the SSO disturbance source contribution rating method based on FIS can determine the SSO contribution degree of each area, thus identifying the dominant oscillation disturbance sources. The proposed method can provide valuable insights for formulating emergency control measures.

Abstract:
In the power transmission of doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs), sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) can occur due to the influence of series compensation capacitance and long-distance transmission. SSO not only affects the output of the DFIG but also leads to oscillation diffusion. In order to solve the problem of disturbance in the control of the DFIG rotor side converter (RSC) under SSO, an adaptive quasi-resonant controller is proposed for the suppression of SSO. This strategy focuses on the propagation path of and frequency change in the SSO in the RSC control system and suppresses the SSO current in the wideband through the cooperative control of the back-stepping controller and the adaptive quasi-resonant controller. In this way, the stator-side output of the DFIG will not be affected by SSO, thus avoiding the amplification of the sub-synchronous power of the line by the DFIG. A simulation model and experimental platform were built to verify the suppression effect of this control strategy on the DFIG stator sub-synchronous current at different SSO frequencies. The results show that the proposed strategy has a good suppression effect on broadband SSO.

Abstract:
Abstract The therapeutic effect and action mechanism of solubilized Sturgeon oil (SSO) against atopic dermatitis (AD) were examined in NC/Nga mice. SSO was prepared from the fish oil obtained from Sturgeons using physical solubilization processes. AD was induced by topical application of house dust mite (HDM) extract on the dorsal skin of NC/Nga mice, and then treated with SSO. SSO exerted potent therapeutic activity on AD symptoms. Histological analysis revealed that SSO reduced epidermal hyperplasia and suppressed infiltration of mast cells and eosinophils in the dorsal skin. In addition, SSO significantly reduced the serum total IgE and HDM-specific IgE levels in AD-induced NC/Nga mice. Analysis of the dorsal skin tissues showed that SSO significantly downregulated the expression levels of IL-4, 5, 13, 17A and COX-2, while upregulated the expression levels of IL-10 and filaggrin. In vitro studies also showed that SSO suppressed the production of Th2 cytokines including IL-4, 5 and 13, while increasing the production of IL-10, from anti-CD3/CD28-stimulated Th2 cells. These results show that SSO exerts therapeutic effect on AD in NC/Nga mice through Th2-related immunomodulatory activities.

Abstract:
A sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) suppression strategy of attaching virtual resistance controllers to the rotor-side converter (RSC) of the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) is proposed in this study to suppress sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) caused by series compensation and grid connection of DFIG. A DFIG-based frequency domain impedance model considering RSC control under small signal perturbations is developed in a three-phase stationary coordinate system. Subsequently, the factors and mechanisms of SSO in the system with different phase sequences are analyzed in combination with the equivalent RLC resonant circuit of a DFIG-based series-compensated grid-connected system (SCGCS). SSO occurs when RSC and rotor winding generate a large equivalent negative resistance at the SSO frequency, resulting in a negative total system resistance. Additionally, the influences of series compensation degree (SCD) of line and inner loop parameters (ILPs) of RSC related to the total impedance of the system on the SSO characteristics are analyzed to optimize the parameters and improve the system stability. Based on the causes of SSO, virtual resistance controllers are attached to RSC to provide positive resistance to the system and to offset the equivalent negative resistance of RSC and rotor winding at the SSO frequency, thereby avoiding SSO of the system. Finally, time-domain simulations using power system computer aided design/electromagnetic transients including dc (PSCAD/EMTDC) show that the SSO of the system is effectively suppressed.

Abstract:
Single-side natural ventilation is a commonly used means of ventilation to effectively regulate the thermal environment in building interiors without any fossil energy consumption. To achieve most of the potential for the efficiency of single-side natural ventilation, research needs to be undertaken into the forces that drive single-side natural ventilation. This paper examines the single-side natural ventilation of a single vertical single opening (SSO) and a vertical double opening (SDO) in a freestanding building under wind and thermal pressure. The change in the trajectory of vortex shedding when the building is leeward as well as the frequency of vortex shedding in square buildings was investigated by large eddy simulation (LES), and computational fluid dynamics was used to analyze the difference in the air exchange rate of single-side natural ventilation of SSO and SDO in the windward and leeward conditions of the building. Both of these methods were used in conjunction with one another. According to the findings, the creation of vortices at SSO and SDO in the presence of low wind speeds reduces the ventilation effect of thermal pressure under windward circumstances. Consequently, the influence of thermal stress and wind stress ultimately cancel each other out, and this phenomenon finally disappears as the wind blowing from the outside of the structure increases. The shedding of vortices in the leeward state accomplishes a form of air supply pumping with a particular periodicity of airflow fluctuations in the lateral direction. The Strouhal number computed using the LES simulation acts in a manner consistent with the experimental findings.

Abstract:
Series compensation is a cost-efficient way to enhance the system reliability and the power transfer capabilities of long transmission lines. As a result of series compensation, the sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) causes a severe risk of torsional interactions (TI). Therefore, SSO becomes a serious risk factor in grid-integrated renewable energy systems. Numerous researchers have evaluated SSO instances in several types of asynchronous generators in power systems. In this paper, the categorization and the overview of the SSO phenomena have been vital for the different mechanisms, sophisticated systems, analytical techniques, and multiple reviews that have been propagated. This study provides SSO analysis for various types of renewable energy power plants. Finally, while dealing with conventional and new power systems, this study summarizes recent SSO-damping and alleviation techniques for practical perception and future perspectives.

Abstract:
Safflower seed oil (SSO) is considered to be an excellent edible oil since it contains abundant essential unsaturated fatty acids and lipid concomitants. However, the traditional alkali-refined deacidification process of SSO results in a serious loss of bioactive components of the oil and also yields massive amounts of wastewater. In this study, SSO was first extracted by ultrasonic-assisted ethanol extraction (UAEE), and the extraction process was optimized using random centroid optimization. By exploring the effects of ethanol concentration, solid–liquid ratio, ultrasonic time, and the number of deacidification times, the optimum conditions for the deacidification of safflower seed oil were obtained as follows: ethanol concentration 100%, solid–liquid ratio 1:4, ultrasonic time 29 min, and number of deacidification cycles (×2). The deacidification rate was 97.13% ± 0.70%, better than alkali-refining (72.16% ± 0.13%). The values of acid, peroxide, anisidine and total oxidation of UAEE-deacidified SSO were significantly lower than those of alkali-deacidified SSO (p < 0.05). The contents of the main lipid concomitants such as tocopherols, polyphenols, and phytosterols in UAEE-decidified SSO were significantly higher than those of the latter (p < 0.05). For instance, the DPPH radical scavenging capacity of UAEE-processed SSO was significantly higher than that of alkali refining (p < 0.05). The Pearson bivariate correlation analysis before and after the deacidification process demonstrated that the three main lipid concomitants in SSO were negatively correlated with the index of peroxide, anisidine, and total oxidation values. The purpose of this study was to provide an alternative method for the deacidification of SSO that can effectively remove free fatty acids while maintaining the nutritional characteristics, physicochemical properties, and antioxidant capacity of SSO.

Abstract:
The wireless sensor network (WSN) plays an essential role in various practical smart applications, e.g., smart grids, smart factories, Internet of Things, and smart homes, etc. WSNs are comprised and embedded wireless smart sensors. With advanced developments in wireless sensor networks research, sensors have been rapidly used in various fields. In the meantime, the WSN performance depends on the coverage ratio of the sensors being used. However, the coverage of sensors generally relates to their cost, which usually has a limit. Hence, a new bi-tuning simplified swarm optimization (SSO) is proposed that is based on the SSO to solve such a budget-limited WSN sensing coverage problem to maximize the number of coverage areas to improve the performance of WSNs. The proposed bi-tuning SSO enhances SSO by integrating the novel concept to tune both the SSO parameters and SSO update mechanism simultaneously. The performance and applicability of the proposed bi-tuning SSO using seven different parameter settings are demonstrated through an experiment involving nine WSN tests ranging from 20, 100, to 300 sensors. The proposed bi-tuning SSO outperforms two state-of-the-art algorithms: genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO), and can efficiently accomplish the goals of this work.

Abstract:
With the increasing utilization of electronic equipment in the power system, sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) has occurred many times and caused off-grid accidents because of power oscillation. SSO has become one of the main problems that restrict the development of new energy. In this paper, power oscillation in grid-side converters (GSCs) in doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) under SSO is studied. Firstly, the influence mechanism of SSO on GSC multipath disturbance is studied. Secondly, the problem of coupling oscillation caused by PLL output errors after coordinate transformation is studied, and the mathematical model of GSC output power considering SSO multipath disturbance is established. By analyzing the oscillation suppression ability of the quasi-resonant controller under variable SSO states, the key influencing factors of SSO for GSC power oscillation suppression strategies are determined. Furthermore, based on the above theoretical analysis and research, an improved PLL is designed to eliminate the influence of its output errors on the disturbance of GSC. At the same time, a DFIG-GSC power oscillation suppression strategy using an adaptive quasi-resonant controller is designed to eliminate the influence of SSO on the multi-path disturbance of GSC. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed suppression strategy is verified using simulation and experimental results.

Abstract:
Tuning and stabilizing a large imprint in epitaxial relaxor ferroelectric thin films is one of the key factors for designing micro-electromechanical devices with an enhanced figure of merit (FOM). In this work, epitaxial 500 nm-thick 0.67Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3–0.33PbTiO3 (PMN–33PT) films, free from secondary phases and with extremely low rocking curves (FWHM < 0.05°), are grown on ScSmO3 (SSO) and DyScO3 (DSO) substrates buffered with SrRuO3 (SRO). The PMN–33PT is observed to grow coherently on SSO substrates (lattice mismatch of −0.7%), which is c-axis oriented and exhibits large tetragonality compared to bulk PMN–33PT, while on DSO substrates (lattice mismatch of −1.9%), the PMN–33PT film is almost completely relaxed and shows reduced tetragonality. Due to the compressive epitaxial strain, the fully strained PMN–33PT film displays typical ferroelectric P–E hysteresis loops, while the relaxed sample shows relaxor-like P–E loops. Samples present large negative imprints of about −88.50 and −49.25 kV/cm for PMN–33PT/SRO/SSO and PMN–33PT/SRO/DSO, respectively, which is more than threefold higher than the coercive field. The imprint is induced by the alignment of defect dipoles with the polarization and is tuned by the epitaxial strain. It permits the stabilization of a robust positive polarization state (Pr ∼ 20 μC/cm2) and low dielectric permittivity (<700). In addition, the relaxed PMN–33PT film shows improved piezoelectric properties, with a 33% enhancement in d33,eff relative to the fully strained sample. The obtained low dielectric permittivity and the high piezoelectric coefficients at zero electric field in the studied PMN–33PT films hold great promise to maximize the FOM toward applications in piezoelectric devices.

AbstractEucalyptus camaldulensishas potential for timber, energy, pulp and cellulose production in Brazil due to its ability to adapt to a variety of environmental conditions. The use of improved seeds, selected for economic growth traits, is necessary to increase productivity of commercial stands. Seed seedlings orchards (SSO) are one option for improved seed production. However, pollen contamination from unimproved populations, as well as non-random mating in the SSO, can decrease the predicted genetic gains in selected populations. Thus, we investigate the mating system, pollen flow and dispersal patterns in anE. camaldulensisSSO and progeny test (PT), established with seedlings collected in the SSO, using seven microsatellite loci. All trees in the SSO were mapped, sampled, and genotyped. For the PT, we sampled, genotyped, and measured the total height of seedlings from 25 families. We detected 10 % inbreeding in the PT, resulting mainly from selfing. Furthermore, we found a correlated mating rate of 18.5 % in the SSO, indicating that within the PT there are some full-sibs. Using paternity analysis, we found 14.7 % pollen contamination and a pattern of pollen dispersal between near neighbor trees in the SSO. We found 9.5 % of inbreeding depression for seedlings height. Due to pollen contamination and nonrandom mating in the SSO, the actual genetic gains for growth traits in the PT are probably lower than the predicted genetic gains. We discuss some management strategies in the SSO that can be used to increase genetic gains in commercial reforestation established using seeds collected from the SSO

Abstract:
A S-containing additive, sulfuration modified soybean oil (named as SSO), was prepared by chemical modification of soybean oil with sulfur compounds. The friction and wear performances of AZ91D magnesium alloy against GCr15 bearing steel under the lubrication of rapeseed oil formulated with SSO were evaluated on a SRV tribotester. The topographies and the chemical species of the worn surfaces of magnesium alloy were analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and an X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS), respectively. The results indicated that the friction and wear of the magnesium alloy-steel tribomates could be effectively reduced by formulating SSO into rapeseed oil lubricant. The friction coefficients and the wear volumes of magnesium alloy decreased with increasing contents of SSO. The surface lubricated with SSO-doped rapeseed oil was characterized by less wear as compared with that lubricated with neat rapeseed oil. The enhanced anti-wear and friction-reducing abilities of rapeseed oil by SSO in the lubrication of magnesium alloy against steel were ascribed to the formation of a composite boundary lubrication film due to the strong adsorption of SSO and rapeseed oil onto the lubricated surfaces and their tribochemical reactions with magnesium alloy.

Abstract:
The current work aimed to clarify the effects of four structured lipids, including monoglycerides with docosahexaenoic acid (2D-MAG), diacylglycerols with caprylic acid (1,3C-DAG), triglyceride with caprylic acid at sn-1,3 and DHA at sn-2 position (1,3C-2D-TAG) and caprylic triglyceride on the oxidative stability of stripped soybean oil (SSO). The results revealed that compared to the blank group of SSO, the oxidation induction period of the sample with 2 wt% 2D-MAG and that with 1,3C-DAG were delayed by 2–3 days under accelerated oxidation conditions (50 °C), indicating that 2D-MAG and 1,3C-DAG prolonged the oxidation induction period of SSO. However, the inhibitory effect of α-tocopherol on SSO oxidation was reduced by 2D-MAG after addition of 2D-MAG to SSO containing α-tocopherol. 2D-MAG exhibited different antioxidative/pro-oxidative effects in the added/non-added antioxidants system. Compared to caprylic triglyceride, DHA at the sn-2 acyl site induced oxidation of structured lipids, thus further promoting the oxidation of SSO. The antioxidant was able to inhibit not only the oxidation of DHA in the SSO, but also the transesterification of sn-2 DHA to sn-1/sn-3 DHA in the structured lipid.

Abstract:
Single sign-on (SSO) enables users to authenticate across multiple related but independent systems using a single username and password. While the number of higher education institutions adopting SSO continues to grow, little is known about the academic community’s security awareness regarding SSO. This paper aims to examine the security awareness of SSO across various demographic groups within a single higher education institution based on their age, gender, and academic roles. Additionally, we investigate some psychological factors (i.e., privacy concerns and personality traits) that may influence users’ level of SSO security awareness. Using survey data collected from 283 participants (faculty, staff, and students) and analyzed using a hierarchical linear regression model, we discovered a generational gap, but no gender gap, in security awareness of SSO. Additionally, our findings confirm that students have a significantly lower level of security awareness than faculty and staff. Finally, we discovered that privacy concerns have no effect on SSO security awareness on their own. Rather, they interact with the user’s personality traits, most notably agreeableness and conscientiousness. The findings of this study lay the groundwork for future research and interventions aimed at increasing cybersecurity awareness among users of various demographic groups as well as closing any existing gaps between them.

Abstract:
Single Sign-On (SSO) is a mechanism that allows users to access various services using a single set of login credentials. However, in SSO implementations, there are still challenges related to security and authentication management, particularly attacks targeting the Identity Provider (IDP). To address this, the use of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) as proof of IDP ownership has been proposed as a solution to enhance security in the authentication mechanism. The utilization of NFTs in SSO with OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 has the potential to improve security and convenience in the authentication process due to the unique and non-duplicable nature of NFTs. The results of this research present a model and design of SSO with NFTs on OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0. An SSO application with login, register, and password recovery features was also developed to provide convenience to users during the login process. The findings conclude that the utilization of NFTs in SSO with OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0 has the potential to enhance security and convenience in the authentication mechanism. Further research is needed to explore aspects such as scalability, in-depth security analysis, testing in real-world scenarios, improvement of integration and interoperability, as well as comparative analysis with other SSO technologies.

Abstract:
AbstractAn eight-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of total (100%) replacement of dietary fish oil with alternative lipid sources in juvenile rainbow trout. Six iso-nitrogenous and iso-lipidic experimental diets were formulated: CO (14%) – cod liver oil; SSO (14%) – safflower seed oil; SBO (14%) – soybean oil; LO (14%) – linseed oil; SBO (7%) + LO (7%) – a blend of soybean oil and linseed oil; and SSO (7%) + LO (7%) – a blend of safflower seed oil and linseed oil. Growth performance [specific growth rate (SGR), weight gain (WG), food conversion ratio (FCR) and survival rate (SR)], growth hormones [growth hormone (GH-I), insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and insulin-like growth factor-II (IGF-II)], immune transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and antioxidant [superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione reductase (GR), catalase (CAT) and glutathione S-transferase (GST)] response, and heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) mRNA levels were determined in muscle and liver. Our data indicated that final weight, weight gain, FCR and SGR showed significant difference among the six dietary treatments (P<0.05) while there were no significant differences in survival rate between the rainbow trout from supplement fed groups and control group. HSP70 mRNA level expression in muscle was higher in fish fed SSO (P<0.05) while highest level in liver was obtained from fish fed SBO compared to the other treatments (P<0.05). There were no significant differences among treatments for TGF-β mRNA expression level in muscle and liver. In conclusion, growth performance and expression levels of growth hormones, antioxidants, HSP70, except TGF-β were affected by five separate lipid sources. In addition, LO positively increased growth performance of juvenile rainbow trout by means of preventing oxidative stress and HSP70 and, enhanced expression of growth hormone related gene.

Abstract:
The synthesis and characterization of silsesquioxane (SSO) films with pendant dodecyl groups and doped with goethite (Gt) or montmorillonite (MMT) nanoparticles were carried out and the new materials tested as sorbents of diverse contaminants. The synthetic method used yielded SSO films with the inorganic substrates homogeneously distributed within the polymeric matrices. The new materials were characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, and DSC and tested to evaluate their capability for adsorbing metallic cations, organic dyes, and phosphate, frequent contaminants of industrial effluents. All films were found suitable for removing metallic cations. Results also showed that the SSO films undoped and doped with Gt are primarily apt for anionic compounds removal. Although the SSO films doped with MMT are capable of removing cationic contaminants from aqueous samples, the stiffness of the SSO matrix hinders MMT properties as an adsorbent. The possibility of dispersing nanoparticulate systems in the stable and chemically inert SSO matrices simplifies their application for contaminant removal, particularly because it makes the separation process of the absorbed pollutant from the treated medium easier.

Abstract:
AIM: To investigate the safety and efficacy of sticky silicone oil (SSO) removal using a 22-gauge vein detained needle and inner limiting membrane (ILM) wrap-and-peel technique. METHODS: This retrospective consecutive case series reviewed the records of patients with a history of retinal detachment who had received silicone oil and perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL) as intraocular tamponades. Patients were included in the analysis if they exhibited SSO remnants during silicone oil removal. The aspiration of most of the SSO remnants was performed by a 22-gauge vein detained needle. The small amounts of droplets adhered to the macula and epi-macular membrane were subsequently removed by the ILM warp-and-peel technique. The anatomical and functional outcomes, and postoperative complications were recorded. In vitro experiments were performed to simulate the formation of SSO remnants in four groups. RESULTS: Of 711 patients who underwent silicone oil removal during the study period, 9 patients exhibited SSO remnants and underwent follow-up for at least 3mo. Seven eyes (78%) underwent the ILM wrap-and-peel technique to completely remove small droplets of SSO that were glued to the macula and epi-macular membrane. No obvious complications occurred. Postoperative optical coherence tomography revealed normal retinal structure in all patients. In vitro analyses showed that balanced salt solution and prolonged vibration (for 1wk) had the strongest effects on silicone oil and PFCL compound opacities. CONCLUSION: SSO remnants could be removed in an intact manner and without complications, using a vein detained needle-assisted and ILM wrap-and-peel technique. The findings suggest that PFCL and infusion fluid should be completely removed before silicone oil injection to prevent SSO formation.

Abstract:
Bronchiolitis is the main cause of hospitalization in infants. Diagnosis is clinical, and treatment is based on hydration and oxygen therapy. Nevertheless, unnecessary diagnostic tests and pharmacological treatments are still very common. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate whether the setting of bronchiolitis care influences diagnostic and therapeutic choices. The management of 3201 infants, referred to our Italian Tertiary Care Center for bronchiolitis between 2010 and 2020, was analyzed by comparing children discharged from the pediatric emergency department (PEDd group) undergoing short-stay observation (SSO group) and hospitalization. Antibiotic use in PEDd, SSO, and ward was 59.3% vs. 51.6% vs. 49.7%, respectively (p < 0.001); inhaled salbutamol was mainly administered in PEDd and during SSO (76.1% and 82.2% vs. 38.3% in ward; p < 0.001); the use of corticosteroids was higher during SSO and hospitalization (59.6% and 49.1% vs. 39.0% in PEDd; p < 0.001); inhaled adrenaline was administered mostly in hospitalized infants (53.5% vs. 2.5% in SSO and 0.2% in PEDd; p < 0.001); chest X-ray use in PEDd, SSO, and ward was 30.3% vs. 49.0% vs. 70.5%, respectively (p < 0.001). In a multivariate analysis, undergoing SSO was found to be an independent risk factor for the use of systemic corticosteroid and salbutamol; being discharged at home was found to be a risk factor for antibiotic prescription; undergoing SSO and hospitalization resulted as independent risk factors for the use of CXR. Our study highlights that different pediatric acute care settings could influence the management of bronchiolitis. Factors influencing practice may include a high turnover of PED medical staff, personal reassurance, and parental pressure.

In China, Tahe Triassic oil field block 9 reservoir was discovered in 2002 by drilling wells S95 and S100. The distribution of the reservoir sand body is not clear. Therefore, it is necessary to study and to predict oil production from this oil field. In this study, we propose an improved Random Vector Functional Link (RVFL) network to predict oil production from Tahe oil field in China. The Spherical Search Optimizer (SSO) is applied to optimize the RVFL and to enhance its performance, where SSO works as a local search method that improved the parameters of the RVFL. We used a historical dataset of this oil field from 2002 to 2014 collected by a local partner. Our proposed model, called SSO-RVFL, has been evaluated with extensive comparisons to several optimization methods. The outcomes showed that, SSO-RVFL achieved accurate predictions and the SSO outperformed several optimization methods.

To investigate the antioxidant activity and physicochemical properties of oil, sunflower (SFO) and corn oil (CO) and their combinations with sesame oil (SO) were prepared. The analyses of fatty acid composition (GC-FID), oxidative stability index (Rancimat), smoke point, and antioxidant activity (DPPH) were done on oil samples. Then, the frying process in presence of potato chips was done for 3 days at 180°C. Oil samples were gathered after each frying cycle and chemical analysis (peroxide value, free fatty acid, p-anisidine value, TOTOX, total polar content, TBARS, and conjugated diene and triene) was measured. The major fatty acid composition of oil samples was linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, and stearic acid. The OSI of oil samples was reported as CSO > SSO > SO > CO > SFO . The smoke point of all samples was in the standard limit. The SFO with 266.50°C had the highest smoke point. The antioxidant activity of samples was reported as SO > CSO > CO > SSO > SFO . The IC50 of SO was 52.17 mg/g which was higher than other samples. The result of frying indicated that prolonged heating process would increase the thermal oxidation. It was shown that oils blended with SO had good stability during deep frying. Therefore, blending oil with SO is considered as an economic approach to improve the oil oxidation stability.

Abstract:
Context.— The College of American Pathologists (CAP) developed protocols for reporting pathologic characteristics of breast cancer specimens, including margin status. The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) published treatment guidelines regarding margins in patients with invasive cancer; and SSO, ASTRO, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) recently published guidelines for patients with ductal carcinoma in situ. Objective.— To assess current practices among pathologists with regard to the processing/reporting of breast specimens, assess compliance with CAP cancer protocols, and assess alignment with SSO/ASTRO and SSO/ASTRO/ASCO guidelines. Design.— A survey concerning breast specimen processing/reporting was distributed to pathologists enrolled in the CAP Performance Improvement Program in Surgical Pathology. Results.— Ninety-four percent (716 of 764 respondents) and 91% (699 of 769 respondents) define positive margins as “tumor on ink” for invasive cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ, respectively, in compliance with CAP cancer protocols and with SSO/ASTRO and SSO/ASTRO/ASCO guidelines. Of 791 respondents who provided details regarding methods for margin evaluation, 608 (77%) exclusively examine perpendicular margins, facilitating guideline compliance. However, 183 of 791 respondents (23%) examine en face margins in at least a subset of specimens, which may preclude guideline compliance in some cases. When separate cavity (shave) margins are examined, while 517 of 586 respondents (88%) ink these specimens, 69 of 586 (12%) do not, and this may also preclude guideline compliance in some cases. Conclusions.— A substantial proportion of survey participants report margin status for breast cancer specimens in a manner consistent with CAP cancer protocols, and in alignment with SSO/ASTRO and SSO/ASTRO/ASCO guidelines. However, there are opportunities for some laboratories to modify procedures in order to facilitate more complete adherence to guidelines.

Abstract:
To extract the maximum solar power from the photovoltaic (PV) panel/array with the high conversion efficiency under partial shading condition (PSC), this paper discusses a new and an efficient maximum power point (MPP) tracking algorithm. The proposed algorithm is based on the bio-inspired salp swarm optimization (SSO), and the algorithm forecasts the global MPP (GMPP) with the fast convergence to GMPP and high tracking efficiency. The SSO algorithm thus reduces the computational burden as encountered in whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and gray wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm discussed in the various literatures. The modeling and simulation of the proposed SSO algorithm are done with the help of Matlab/Simulink software to validate the effectiveness to locate the MPP during PSCs. The simulation results prove that the proposed SSO algorithm exhibits a high PV power output with the tracking efficiency of more than 95% at the faster convergence rate to GMPP. The SSO algorithm is experimentally verified on the conventional boost converter under different shading conditions.

Abstract Power systems are at risk of sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) when connecting doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG)-based wind turbines to transmission lines with series compensation. This paper focuses on the mechanism and mitigation strategy of SSO. Firstly, the mechanism of SSO is studied from two aspects: induction generator effect (IGE) and sub-synchronous control interaction (SSCI). An equivalent circuit is developed to illustrate the negative resistance effect. Based on the result of the analysis, the SSO mitigation strategy using notch filter and virtual resistance control is proposed. Abstract This work assessed if acid-phase digestion could improve volatile solids (VS) destruction and methane yield when co-digesting municipal sewage sludges (primary and waste activated sludge) and source separated organics (SSO). The SSO was made up of food waste and the organic fraction of municipal solid waste. Two laboratory-scale acid-phase digesters and three laboratory-scale methane-phase digesters were employed in order to determine the impacts of SSO co-digestion with municipal sludges both with and without acid-phase digestion as a pretreatment step. Reactors were operated at 35 °C using volatile solids loading rates of 34.2–44.1 g VS/LR-day for acid-phase digesters and 1.2–2.4 1 g VS/LR-day for methane-phase digesters. Solids retention times ranging from 1.2 to 1.5 day and 20.7 to 23.2 days were employed for acid-phase and methane-phase digesters, respectively. VS destruction ranged from 62% to 67%, with reactors receiving SSO achieving higher VS destruction. Results also show that reactors receiving SSO were able to handle organic loading increases of at least 39% without showing signs of overloading. Microbial community analysis revealed that SSO had a noticeable impact on acid-phase digestion with Megasphaera emerging as the most abundant genus.

Abstract Single sign-on (SSO) systems, such as OpenID and OAuth, allow Web sites to delegate user authentication to third parties, such as Facebook or Google. These systems provide a convenient mechanism for users to log in and ease the burden of user authentication for Web sites. Conversely, by integrating such SSO systems, they become a crucial part of the security of the modern Web. So far, it has been hard to prove if Web standards and protocols actually meet their security goals. SSO systems, in particular, need to satisfy strong security and privacy properties. In this thesis, we develop a new systematic approach to rigorously and formally analyze and verify such strong properties with the Web Infrastructure Model (WIM), the most comprehensive model of the Web infrastructure to date. Our analyses reveal severe vulnerabilities in SSO systems that lead to critical attacks against their security and privacy. We propose fixes and formally verify that our proposals are sufficient to establish security. Our analyses, however, also show that even Mozilla’s proposal for a privacy-preserving SSO system does not meet its unique privacy goal. To fill this gap, we use our novel approach to develop a new SSO system, SPRESSO, and formally prove that our system indeed enjoys strong security and privacy properties.

Abstract:
Large, benign intramandibular lesions are frequently removed by resection followed by extensive free tissue transfer or delayed bone grafting. We outline a protocol to remove benign mandibular lesions using sagittal split osteotomy (SSO) with virtual surgical planning (VSP) to mitigate risks involved with this effective, tissue-saving approach. Patients with benign mandibular lesions accessed by SSO with VSP during 2014 were included in this study. Computed tomographic data were imported into VSP software. Using VSP, the exact locations of mandibular lesions and the inferior alveolar nerve canal were delineated. SSO was designed virtually and provided surgeons exact measurements to gain access to lesions and to avoid vital structures intraoperatively. SSO with VSP preserved the cortical mandibular bone and the inferior alveolar neurovascular bundle in 3 patients with benign mandibular lesions. Twelve months after surgery, no patient had pathologic fracture, prolonged paresthesia (except for the patient who required inferior alveolar nerve resection), or malocclusion. No patient required bone grafting. There were no functional or aesthetic jaw deficits. SSO is an effective approach to access intramandibular lesions. The technique does not result in loss of mandibular bone, and patients return to full masticatory function compared with those who require resection and reconstruction. VSP may mitigate technical challenges associated with SSO.

Abstract:
The best method for fascial closure during hernia repair remains unknown. This study evaluates the impact of fascial closure techniques on short-term outcomes. All patients undergoing open ventral hernia repair were queried using the Americas Hernia Society Quality Collaborative database. Analysis was stratified by suture type (absorbable and permanent) and technique (figure-of-eight, running, and interrupted). Outcome measures included SSI, surgical site occurrence (SSO), SSO requiring intervention, recurrence rate, and quality of life. Descriptive statistics and logistic regression were used. The study included 6544 patients. Two-thirds of surgeons closed fascia during ventral hernia repair with absorbable suture and one-third with permanent suture. In the absorbable group, 17 per cent used figure-of-eight, 46 per cent running, and 4 per cent interrupted suture. In the permanent group, 13 per cent used figure-of-eight, 8 per cent running, and 11 per cent interrupted suture. There was no significant association between SSO and closure technique ( P = 0.2). However, SSO and suture type were significant ( P < 0.001) with the odds of SSO for closure with absorbable suture being 62 per cent higher than the odds of permanent. Fascial closure technique and suture type had no significant association ( P > 0.5) with SSI, SSO requiring intervention, hernia recurrence rate, or HerQLes or NIH PROMIS 3a scores at 30 days or 6 months. Fascial closure technique and suture material do not have a major impact on outcomes in ventral hernia repair. Despite a significantly higher rate of SSO for absorbable sutures than permanent, this did not increase the rate of interventions.

Abstract:
Abstract The sea sand vanadium titanomagnetite has coarse particles, small specific surface area, and great difficulty in agglomeration process. It is difficult for ironmaking enterprises to use it as an ironmaking raw material in large quantities. In this paper, the different methods were adopted to optimize the pellet performance indexes of sea sand vanadium titanomagnetite in order to increase the usage of SSO. The effects of adding ordinary iron ore powder, vanadia-titania fine powder and ball milling pretreatment of SSO on the preparation process of pellet were studied, and the performance indexes of pellet were analyzed. The results showed that the proportion of unground SSO in pellets was up to 40%. The experimental results provided some reference methods to improve the dosage of SSO.

Abstract:
<b><i>Purpose:</i></b> Our study aimed to quantify the impact of submandibular gland (SMG) resection during Level I neck dissection (ND) on stimulated salivary output (SSO) and xerostomia-related quality of life in patients with head and neck cancer (HNC). <b><i>Methods:</i></b> A retrospective cohort was formed from 32 patients that underwent unilateral or bilateral Level I ND and a control group of 23 patients that had level II–IV ND. SSO (Saxon test) and University of Washington Quality of Life survey results for both groups were compared. <b><i>Results:</i></b> Mean SSO was 3.41 g in the SMG resection group and 3.86 g in the control group, with no significant statistical difference. There was no difference in mean SSO between patients with 2 SMGs, a single remaining SMG, or no glands. The mean SSO of SMG resection cases with a history of adjuvant RT was 2.61 g which was below the xerostomia threshold for the Saxon test (2.75 g) and control group patients with RT had a significantly higher mean SSO (4.07 g). The lowest UW-QoL saliva domain score average (53.8) was in the SMG-resected, RT-positive group. <b><i>Conclusion:</i></b> Results indicate unilateral or bilateral resection of SMG does not reduce SSO to a significant extent. Adjuvant radiotherapy and SMG resection are additive risk factors for xerostomia and the related loss in quality of life. SMG sparing may be necessary in HNC patients with higher risk for the need of adjuvant radiation.

Abstract:
Fats containing the stearoyl-rich triacylglycerols (TAGs) of 1,2-distearoyl-3-oleoylglycerol (SSO) and 1,3-dioleoyl-2-stearoylglycerol (OSO) were synthesized via the lipase-catalyzed acidolysis of tristearin (SSS)-rich fat and oleic acids, followed by solvent fractionation. Their physicochemical properties and in vitro digestibilities were compared. The SSS-, SSO-, and OSO-rich fats comprised 81.6%, 52.9%, and 33.1% stearic acid, respectively, whereas oleic acid comprised 2.9%, 37.5%, and 56.2%, respectively. The SSS-, SSO-, and OSO-rich fats contained the TAGs of SaSaSa (100.00%), SaSaMo (86.98%), and MoSaMo (67.12%), respectively, and the major TAGs were SSS, SSO, and OSO, respectively. Melting and crystallization temperatures were higher and fat crystals were larger and densely packed in the descending order of SSS-, SSO and OSO-rich fats. Both in vitro multi-step digestion and pH-stat digestion were more rapid for OSO- than SSO-rich fat. Oleic acid was digested faster than stearic acid during the initial digestion, then the rate decreased, whereas that of stearic acid increased over prolonged digestion. Fats that were richer in stearoyl at the sn-1,3 position of TAG melted and crystallized at higher temperatures, had a densely packed microstructure of large fat crystals and were poorly digested. Stearic acid imparts the essential physical attributes of melting and crystallization in solid fats, and the low digestible stearoyl-rich fat would be a viable substitute for trans fatty acids in food lipid industry.
