AbstractBackgroundDistinguishing between symptoms of schizotypal (SPD) and borderline personality disorders (BPD) is often difficult due to their partial overlap and frequent co-occurrence. We investigated correlations in self-reported symptoms of SPD and BPD in questionnaires at the levels of both total scores and individual items, examining overlapping dimensions.MethodsTwo questionnaires, the McLean Screening Instrument (MSI) for BPD and the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire Brief (SPQ-B) for SPD, were filled in by patients with mood disorders (n = 282) from specialized psychiatric care in a study of the Helsinki University Psychiatric Consortium. Correlation coefficients between total scores and individual items of the MSI and SPQ-B were estimated. Multivariate regression analysis (MRA) was conducted to examine the relationships between SPQ-B and MSI.ResultsThe Spearman's correlation between total scores of the MSI and SPQ-B was strong (rho = 0.616, P < 0.005). Items of MSI reflecting disrupted relatedness and affective dysregulation correlated moderately (rφ varied between 0.2 and 0.4, P < 0.005) with items of SPQ. Items of MSI reflecting behavioural dysregulation correlated only weakly with items of SPQ. In MRA, depressive symptoms, sex and MSI were significant predictors of SPQ-B score, whereas symptoms of anxiety, age and SPQ-B were significant predictors of MSI score.ConclusionsItems reflecting cognitive-perceptual distortions and affective symptoms of BPD appear to overlap with disorganized and cognitive-perceptual symptoms of SPD. Symptoms of depression may aggravate self-reported features of SPQ-B, and symptoms of anxiety features of MSI. Symptoms of behavioural dysregulation of BPD and interpersonal deficits of SPQ appear to be non-overlapping.

Abstrak Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa melalui model pembelajaran Treffinger di kelas VIII-1 SMPN 3 Tangerang Selatan. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII-1 yang terdiri atas 38 siswa dengan 16 siswa laki-laki dan 22 siswa perempuan. Fokus pengamatan pada dua siswa masing-masing pada kelompok atas, sedang, dan rendah pada materi pembelajaran Sistem Persamaan Linier Dua Variabel (SPLDV). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam 3 siklus. Setiap siklus meliputi tahapan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, analisis, dan refleksi. Untuk memeroleh data kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa menggunakan tes kemampuan penalaran matematis. Hasil perolehan nilai untuk setiap subjek penelitian pada siklus I, yaitu SP1 mendapatkan nilai 62,5, SP2 mendapatkan 70,8, SP3 mendapatkan 45,8, SP4 mendapatkan 58,3, SP5 mendapatkan 37,5, dan SP6 mendapatkan 37,5. Pada siklus II nilai tiap SP meningkat, SP1 mendapatkan nilai 75, SP2 mendapatkan 75, SP3 mendapatkan 79,2, SP4 mendapatkan 62,5, SP5 mendapatkan 62,5, dan SP6 mendapatkan 50. Pada siklus III nilai tiap SP juga meningkat, SP1 mendapatkan nilai 79,2, SP2 mendapatkan 79,2, SP3 mendapatkan 83,3, SP4 mendapatkan 75, SP5 mendapatkan 75, dan SP6 mendapatkan 70,8. Ketuntasan klasikal subjek penelitian untuk kemampuan penalaran matematis dalam kategori baik pada siklus III telah mencapai 83,33%, sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran Treffinger dapat meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa kelas VIII-1 SMPN 3 Tangerang Selatan pada materi Sistem Persamaan Linier Dua Variabel.

Abstract:
The yield components participate in the formation of the overall yield and vary within the genotype and environmental factors. The aim of this research was to evaluate yield components of spelt genotypes originating from different Western Balkan countries. Spelt genotypes were examined during two growing seasons 2015/16 and 2016/17 in the agro-ecological conditions of Banja Luka. Nine spelt genotypes were used, i.e. landrace Sitnica from Manjača mountain (the Republic of Srpska, B&H), seven Montenegrin landraces KP34LJ5-1/34 (SP1), KR16LJ5-1/16 (SP2), KR29LJ5-1/29 (SP3), KR12LJ5-1/12 (SP4), KR15LJ5-1/15 (SP5), LJ5-1/9 (SP6), KR20LJ5-1/20 (SP7) and cultivar Nirvana from Serbia. Standard production practices were applied for these spelt genotypes. Five traits were analyzed: the number of spikes m-2, plant height, spike length, the number of grains spike-1 and spike index. A two-factorial analysis of variance was performed and significant differences between treatment means were tested by the Fisher's LSD test at P≤0.05 and P≤0.01 significance level. Genotypes SP4 (140.38 cm), SP5 (138.82 cm), Sitnica (137.66 cm) and SP6 (135.65 cm) showed tendency of forming a relatively higher plants. Sitnica had the longest spikes (14.07 cm), while Montenegrin genotypes had relatively shorter spikes of 6.79 cm on average. Genotypes SP2, SP4, SP5, SP6 and SP7 obtained the highest number of grains per spike while the highest average spike index was obtained in SP7 (0.81).

Abstract:
This study was carried out in the Parque Municipal das Araucárias, in the municipality of Guarapuava, southern Brazil. A total of 449 T. lactitarse nests were collected using trap-nests of different diameters. Fifty three species of spiders belonging to 7 families were captured by T. lactitarse. Araneidae was the most captured family and has been strongly represented by the genus Eustala. Through Bray-Curtis's coefficient and the unweighted pair group method average (UPGMA), the spiders species can be divided into 3 groups: the smaller group includes the most abundant species (Eustala sp1, Eustala sp2, Acacesia villalobosi, Alpaida sp1 and Araneus corporosus), the second group includes species with intermediate abundance (Wagneriana iguape, Araneus omnicolor, Eustala sp4, Alpaida grayi, Eustala sp3, Larinia t-notata, Mangora sp1 and Wagneriana iguape), and the third and largest group includes the least abundant species (Aysha gr. brevimana 1, Eustala sp5, Wagneriana eupalaestra, Alpaida scriba, Alpaida veniliae, Araneus aff. omnicolor, Araneus sicki, Eustala sp8, Mangora sp2, Mangora sp3, Wagneriana juquia, Alpaida sp2, Araneus blumenau, Eustala sp6, Eustala sp7 and Ocrepeira galianoae). Of 2,029 identified spiders, 1,171 were captured in the Araucaria forest, 612 in grassland areas and 246 in the swamp. Grassland and swamp areas evidenced greater similarity between them than to the Araucaria Forest, regarding presence-absence of spider species in T. lactitarse's diet, as well as regarding species abundance in these habitats. The juvenile number (56%) was significantly higher than the female (38%) and male (6%) percentages.

The study aimed to investigate the influence of seasoning formulations (SP1: water; SP2: water and salt; SP3: water, salt and spices; SP4: water, salt, spices and soy sauce; SP5: water, salt, spices, soy sauce, sugar; SP6: water, salt, spices, soy sauce, sugar and cooking wine) on the volatile profiles and sensory evaluation of stewed pork. Volatile compounds were extracted using solid phase microextraction (SPME), then analysed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry/olfactometry (GC-MS/O) and two-dimensional gas chromatographic combined with time-of-fight mass spectrometry (GC × GC-TOFMS). The results revealed that the most abundant volatile compounds, especially aldehydes, were presented in the stewed pork using SP1 and SP2. This indicated that the stewed pork with water and salt could promote lipid oxidation and amino acid degradation. As revealed by principal component analysis (PCA), the stewed pork samples with SP3 were located on the opposite side of that with SP4, SP5, and SP6 in the first and third principal component (PC1-PC3), which indicated that the overall flavour formed by adding spices was significantly different from that of adding soy sauce, sugar, and cooking wine. Sensory evaluation showed that stronger spicy, caramel, and soy sauce odour were present in samples SP3, SP4, SP5, and SP6. This study has indicated that the addition of food seasoning had a positive effect on flavour profiles of stewed pork, particularly for salt and spices.

Sasang typology is a traditional Korean medical classification scheme that combines medical management with general medicine and can be applied to chronic diseases. We aimed to analyze differences in Sasang Personality Questionnaire (SPQ) and Sasang Digestive Function Inventory (SDFI) results in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, functional dyspepsia, major depressive disorder (MDD), and adenomyosis. In this cross-sectional study, data were collected at a medical college hospital in South Korea. A total of 248 patients were included: 52 with DM, 47 with hypertension, 36 with functional dyspepsia, 26 with MDD, and 87 with adenomyosis. The subjects took both the SPQ and the SDFI. The outcome measures in this study were body mass index (BMI), SPQ score, and SDFI score. The DM and hypertension groups, which were expected to demonstrate many Taeeum-type traits, exhibited high BMI, high SPQ-Behavior and SDFI-Appetite scores, and low SPQ-Emotionality and SDFI-Digestion scores. The functional dyspepsia group showed low BMI and high scores for SPQ-Behavior, SPQ-Emotionality, SDFI-Digestion, and SDFI-Appetite. The MDD group demonstrated high SPQ-Emotionality and SDFI-Digestion scores, low BMI, and low SPQ-Behavior and SDFI-Appetite scores. The adenomyosis group demonstrated high scores for SPQ-Behavior, SDFI-Digestion, and SDFI-Appetite, low BMI, and low SPQ-Emotionality scores. Different characteristics distinguishing Sasang traits according to chronic diseases were ascertained, especially for Taeeum and Soeum types.

ZusammenfassungDer Sibling Perception Questionnaire (SPQ) erfasst die Auswirkungen einer Krebserkrankung eines Kindes auf gesunde Geschwister hinsichtlich intrafamiliärer Beziehungen und Kommunikation sowie individuelle krankheitsbezogene Wahrnehmungen und Ängste. Ziel dieser Studie ist die Untersuchung der psychometrischen Eigenschaften der ins Deutsche übersetzten Version des SPQ. Dazu wurden die Daten zu 216 gesunden Geschwistern mit 164 Fragebögen im Selbstbericht und 212 Elternberichten gesammelt. Anhand dessen wurden die 4 Subskalen „Interpersonale Schwierigkeiten“, „Intrapersonale Schwierigkeiten“, „offene Kommunikation“ und „Angst vor der Erkrankung“ mit insgesamt 23 Items untersucht. Es zeigten sich akzeptable bis gute Skalenkonsistenzen im Elternbericht (Cronbach’s α=0,73–0,87) und im Selbstbericht (α=0,59–0,80), mit Ausnahme der Skala Angst vor der Erkrankung (α=0,35 und 0,16). Im Hinblick auf die konvergente Validität zeigten sich ein deutlicher korrelativer Zusammenhang zwischen Skalen des SPQ und Skalen des Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) und des Lebensqualitätsinventars für Kinder (LQ-KID) (r=− 0,37; r=0,63; p≤0,001). Die deutsche Version des SPQ stellt sowohl als Selbst- und Elternbericht ein reliables und valides Instrument zur Erfassung der emotionalen Reaktion eines gesunden Kindes auf die Krebserkrankung eines Geschwisterkindes dar. Weitere Untersuchungen an unterschiedlichen Stichproben werden empfohlen.

Abstract. We present normative data for a Turkish translation of the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire-B (SPQ-B). The SPQ-B is a brief, self-report screening instrument developed by Raine and Benishay (1995) and is used to evaluate respondents for the presence of schizotypal personality features. We describe the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Turkish instrument and report intercorrelations among subfactors and total SPQ-B score. For comparison purposes, we present normative data for the SPQ-B (English version) from two studies examining schizotypy among nonclinical student samples in the United States. We report α coefficients and assess the convergent validity of the SPQ-B by examining the relationship between scores on the SPQ-B and performance on two existing measures of schizotypy and schizophrenic-spectrum personality disorders. Central tendency, distribution of scores, factor structure, and intercorrelations in both Turkish and US samples were similar, suggesting that our Turkish translation of the SPQ-B is a culturally valid instrument.

El motivo del presente estudio es validar la estructura interna del Cuestionario Revisado de Procesos de Estudio, Dos factores (Revised-Study Process Questionnaire-2 Factors; Biggs, Kember & Leung, 2001), en una muestra heterogénea de 269 participantes universitarios y no universitarios. Se aplicó la metodología de ecuaciones estructurales para probar varios modelos de medición: unidimensional, cuatro factores relacionados y con estructura jerárquica, y dos factores (ortogonales y oblicuos). Se halló que los modelos basados en cuatro factores no mostraron un ajuste satisfactorio, y uno tuvo problemas de convergencia ocasionados por la muy alta correlación interfactorial. El modelo de dos factores (profundo y superficial), con errores correlacionados, tuvo satisfactorio ajuste. La consistencia interna también fue satisfactoria. Se discute la utilidad del instrumento y su reformulación teórica.

Frente à escassez de investigações experimentais que enfoquem o processo de estudo entre universitários de enfermagem, na literatura nacional e, dada a indicação da necessidade de que tal temática seja constantemente considerada para que as instituições educacionais consigam preparar recursos humanos de enfermagem adequados à realidade brasileira, apresentou-se esta proposta de investigação cujo objetivo foi o de validar para o Brasil a escala Revised two-factor Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F). O questionário possui 20 itens distribuídos em duas escalas com 10 itens cada, sendo uma de Abordagem Profunda (DA) e outra de Abordagem Superficial (SA). Cada escala possui duas subescalas compostas de cinco itens cada, sendo duas referentes à motivação e duas à estratégia: motivação profunda (dm), estratégia profunda (ds), motivação superfcicial (sm) e estratégia superficial (ss). Os dados foram coletados em uma escola de enfermagem de uma universidade pública estadual do interior paulista, no período de julho a dezembro de 2008, tendo participado do estudo 202 estudantes do curso de bacharelado em enfermagem. As propriedades psicométricas analisadas foram: validade de face e de conteúdo (comitê de juízes); confiabilidade (consistência interna alfa de Cronbach); validade de construto (análise fatorial confirmatória) e validade de critério (notas em disciplinas curriculares). A maioria dos estudantes era do sexo feminino 194 (96%) com idade média de 22,3 anos (DP=2,1). O processo de revisão pelo comitê de juízes e validação semântica ocorreu sem intercorrências significativas. A confiabilidade da versão adaptada foi considerada muito boa devido a alta consistência interna de seus itens, segundo os valores de alfa de Cronbach de 0,76 para DA e 0,74 para SA. Em relação à validade de construto, a análise fatorial confirmatória indicou um ajuste muito satisfatório em relação ao modelo que testa a dimensionalidade de todo o instrumento e trata as subescalas como indicadores dos fatores latentes DA e SA. Assim, a versão adaptada do R-SPQ-2F apresentou medidas psicométricas consideradas satisfatórias, estando adequado para a utilização como uma ferramenta de avaliação da abordagem ao estudo de estudantes de enfermagem brasileiros.
Due to the lack of experimental research focusing the study process among nursing university students, in Brazilian literature and, considering the need of this theme being constantly thought of in order that the educational institutions can prepare human resources in nursing appropriate to the Brazilian reality, this researched aimed to validate the scale Revised two-factor Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ- 2F) for Brazil. The questionnaire has 20 items distributed in two scales with 10 items each, one with Deep Approach (DA) and the other with Surface Approach (SA). Each scale has two subscales consisting of five items each, two regarding the motivation and two the strategy: deep motive (dm), deep strategy (ds), surface motive (sm) and surface strategy (ss). Data were collected in a nursing college from a public state university in the interior of the state of São Paulo, between July and December 2008. In total, 202 students from the Nursing Bachelor\'s Program participated in study. The following psychometric properties were analyzed: face and content validity (committee of experts); reliability (Cronbach\'s alpha internal consistency); validity of construct (confirming factorial analysis) and validity of criteria (grades in syllabus courses). Most students were female 194 (96%) aged on average 22.3 years (SD=2.1). The review process by the committee of experts and semantic validation did not have significant incidents. The reliability of the adapted version was considered very good due to the high internal consistency of its items, according to the values of Cronbach\'s alpha of 0.76 for DA and 0.74 for SA. Regarding the validity of construct, the confirming factorial analysis showed a very satisfactory adjustment regarding the model that tests the dimensionality of the whole instrument and treats the subscales as indicators of the latent factors DA and SA. Thus, the adapted version of the R-SPQ-2F presented psychometric measures considered satisfactory and is appropriate to be used as a tool to assess the approach of the study of Brazilian Nursing students.

Considering that approximatelly 90% of individuals with ASD show some deficit in sensory perception and the adition of atypical sensory criteria in Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, the fifith edition (DSM-5) for diagnosis of ASD, there is a need to have instruments that can access this constructs enabiling more research. Many exiting instruments are questionnaires for parents, and most of them focus on children, therefore little is known about sensory perception in adults. Given the lack of brazilian intruments to evaluate the hability of sensory processing and questionnaires that can access the real experience of who lives this reality, this study aims to translate to brazilian portuguese and culturally adapt the Sensory Perception Quotient, an instrument of self report that can access sensory reactivity in adults, evaluating five basic modalities, that can be hypo or hyper –reactive, avoiding value judgment. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to translate to brazilian portuguese and adapt culturally to the brazilian culture of the Sensory Perception Quotient, conducting a study within a scope of a non-experimental non-longitudinal descriptive research, and the following steps: translation, back-translation, revision by a specialist comittee on analysis, evaluation of he scoring and the verification of the instrument’s internal consistency. Sample was constituied of 87 participants, ages 18 to 52 years. The results obtained by the application of total questionnaire translated and adapted, already modified in 53 questions in relation to it’s original version, aloud to notice that it is understandable and shows intern consistency little under of desirable, having only the short version with desirable intern consistency. These observations indicate that the search for evidence of validy of the short version of the instrument, realized through new researches, with other applications of the translated version and adapted in this study, will make it possible to applicate in Brazil. Is recommened caution with full questionnaire in the disscution part of this study.
Considerando-se o fato de que aproximadamente 90% dos indivíduos com TEA mostram algum déficit na percepção sensorial junto ao fato da inclusão do critério sensorial atípico no Manual de Diagnóstico e Estatística dos Transtornos Mentais 5.ª edição (DSM-5) para diagnóstico de TEA, há necessidade de se ter instrumentos que possam acessar esses constructos possibilitando mais pesquisas. Muitos instrumentos existentes são questionários para pais, e a maioria se volta para crianças, assim pouco se sabe sobre a percepção sensorial em adultos. Diante da falta de instrumentos brasileiros para avaliar a habilidade de processamento sensorial e questionários que possam acessar a experiência daquele que vive diretamente essa realidade, este estudo objetivou traduzir para o português do Brasil e adaptar culturalmente o Sensory Perception Quotient, um instrumento de auto relato que acessa a reatividade sensorial em adultos, avaliando as cinco modalidades básicas, podendo ser hipo ou hiper-reativo, evitando julgamento de valores. O presente estudo se encaixa no modelo de pesquisa não experimental, transversal, descritiva, contendo os seguintes passos: tradução, retrotradução, revisão por um comitê de especialistas, avaliação das pontuações e verificação da consistência interna do instrumento. A amostra foi constituída de 87 participantes, com idades entre 18 a 52 anos. Os resultados obtidos através da aplicação do questionário total traduzido e adaptado, já com mudanças em 53 perguntas em relação à versão original, permitiram observar que ele é compreensível e apresenta consistência interna pouco abaixo do desejável, apenas com a versão reduzida (short) possuindo consistência interna adequada. Essas observações indicam que a busca de evidências de validade do instrumento da versão reduzida, realizada através de novas pesquisas, com outras aplicações da versão traduzida e adaptada neste estudo poderá tornar possível sua utilização no Brasil. Recomenda-se cautela maior com o questionário total na discussão do trabalho.

Abstract:
The phenomenon of somatosensory attenuation describes the perception that self-generated touch feels weaker than externally generated touch of identical intensity. Previous studies have shown that besides intensity, self-generated touches feel less pleasant and less ticklish than identical externally generated touches. However, previous studies did not systematically assess attenuation across a range of stimuli that can elicit intensity, pleasantness, and ticklishness more efficiently. This thesis aims to replicate these previous observations across a range of tactile stimuli of different intensities and velocities and investigate whether people who attenuate their self-generated touches to a greater extent do so for all aforementioned qualities. Previous studies have shown that participants with lower levels of somatosensory attenuation have more schizotypal personality traits. Twelve volunteers participated in three perceptual tasks where they received touches on their sole generated either by a robot(External) or the participants(Self). Following the strokes, participants had to rate the sensation from 0(not at all) to 100(extremely). For the intensity task, we manipulated the intensity of the applied forces (1,2,3,4N). For the pleasantness and ticklishness tasks, we manipulated the velocity of the applied strokes (0.3,1,10,30cm/s). After the tasks, participants completed a Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire (SPQ). Significant somatosensory attenuation was observed in all tasks, but for specific, not all, stimuli: forces of 4N in terms of intensity, strokes of 1cm/s in terms of pleasantness, and strokes of 10cm/s and 30cm/s in terms of ticklishness. These results suggest that the ability to suppress the tactile consequences of self-generated touch occurs in all three tactile qualities.

The present study aimed to investigate the influences of socio-cultural context on content of delusions within schizophrenic patients among three different geographical areas in Saudi Arabia and to estimate the prevalence of schizotypal personality within the non-clinical Saudi population. Methods: 148 patients meeting DSM-IV criteria of schizophrenia were drawn from in-patient sections of mental health hospitals in three areas of study (Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Eastern Province), and 364 participants were recruited for comparison groups from Saudi universities and general medical practices in the same areas. The study utilized the following instruments: Scale for the Assessment of Positive Symptoms (SAPS), Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS), the MacArthur-Maudsley Delusions Assessment Schedule (MMDAS), the World Health Organization (WHO) Life Events Schedule, the Aetiological Beliefs Questionnaire (ABQ), and the Schizotypal-Personality Questionnaire (SPQ). Results: Firstly: there were significant main effects of residence and sex on the three dependent SPQ scales, and females and Riyadh area residents scored higher on all dependent SPQ scales especially on the cognitive scale. Secondly: persecutory delusions were the most common delusions among schizophrenic patients followed by delusions of being controlled, and the frequency of persecutory delusions was significantly higher in females and in the Riyadh area. Thirdly: only delusions of jealousy were specifically associated with violent behaviours among schizophrenic patients. Finally: ABQ showed that both supernatural and psychological explanations of illness were common among both control and clinical groups. Qualitative analysis of the content of delusions revealed socio-cultural and gender-related issues that were strongly reflected in the themes and content of delusions. Conclusion: Content analysis of delusions in a Saudi schizophrenic sample showed strong effects of the socio-cultural context and stress points such as racism and gender inequality, and gender and regional culture affected both the frequency with which persecutory delusions were observed, and the mean scores of schizotypal personality in a non-clinical sample.

The results indicated the higher-order factor structure of deep-achieving and surface-achieving-motive provided the most reliability and a better model fit than either the subscales or scales of the SPQ. The construct validity of the two constructs deep and surface was assessed next using a multitrait-multimethod matrix (MTMM) constructed from the three measures of the self-report questionnaire, interview ratings and written assessments from first-year students (n = 50). The results indicated good convergent validity between the deep scale of the SPQ and the interview ratings on the deep scale, between the deep scale on the SPQ and the written assessment ratings, and between the interview ratings and written assessment ratings. The results indicated good convergent validity between the surface scale on the SPQ and the interview ratings on the surface scale, but not between the surface scale on the SPQ and the written assessment ratings, and between the interview ratings and written assessment ratings. The discriminant validity between deep and surface was good for the SPQ, but not for either the interview or the written assessment. The findings indicate the deep and surface scales of the SPQ adequately measure the underlying deep and surface constructs. The retest reliability of the SPQ was then examined utilising Spearman’s Rho to assess the rank-order correlations with a sample of third-year students (n=87). Over a period of three months there were significant correlations for the surface motive, surface strategy, deep strategy, achieving motive and achieving strategy subscales of the SPQ, suggesting good reliability for these subscales. The results at the scale level of the SPQ result in similar conclusions. There was a moderate significant correlation for the surface, deep and achieving scales of the SPQ, suggesting the scales have good reliability over a period of three months. There was also a moderate significant correlation for the surface-achieving-motive and deep-achieving scales over a period of three months. The stability of SPQ scores was also assessed utilising a series of one-way repeated measures MANOVA’s with a sample of third-year undergraduates (n = 64). The results suggest some change occurs in self-reported use of approaches to learning between the first and third-years of an undergraduate degree programme. The role of the teaching-learning environment was next examined. Utilising a within-subjects design, undergraduate students (n=48) concurrently enrolled in traditional (viz. lecture and tutorial) and non-traditional (viz. workshops and group projects) subjects completed the SPQ to describe their approaches to learning in each subject. A series of 2x2 repeated measures MANOVA’s were undertaken. The results indicated students were likely to change their approach to learning based on their perceptions of the learning environment (traditional or non-traditional subject). However, those students identified as predominantly surface learners significantly increased their deep scale scores in the non-traditional subject when compared to deep learners. The next study examined a range of personality (locus of control, sensing function, thinking function, intelligence) and demographic variables (age, gender, year of study) to assess which were good predictors of deep and surface approaches to learning. A series of regression analyses identified age, sensing function and locus of control as significant predictors of the surface, surface-achieving-motive, and deep approaches to learning. Locus of control was found to be a significant predictor of the deep-achieving approach to learning. The final study examined the 3P model of learning. Based on the results of earlier studies in the research programme the situational component of the presage factors was not included. The model was examined using structural equation modelling (n= 394). Two initial models were tested using both the three (deep, surface, achieving) and two (surface-achieving-motive and deep-achieving) process factor models. The three process factor model provided the better model fit. The results suggest deep and surface approaches to learning do not mediate between personal characteristics and learning outcomes (i.e. GPA). The results of this series of studies suggest the need for further research into the SPQ and the 3P model of learning. The implications of the research programme are also discussed.

Pela crecente importância dada aos sistemas integrados de gestão na atual literatura e pela evolução que os referenciais certificáveis têm registado no sentido da integração, o presente estudo pretende aferir a contribuição dos sistemas integrados de gestão na excelência. Para tal é verificada a presença, a contribuição e o efeito de melhoria patrocinada pelos sistemas de gestão nas organizações distinguidas pelo Prémio de Excelência do Sistema Português da Qualidade. Embora exista um grande número de estudos nas áreas dos diferentes referenciais e sistemas integrados de gestão, mediante a revisão bibliográfica efetuada foi possível constatar, em Portugal, a inexistência de estudos equivalentes àquele que esta dissertação se ocupa. A adoção do inquérito por questionário possibilitou a inquirição dos distinguídos no âmbito da excelência em Portugal e ultrapassar o problema da disperssão geográfica destas organizações. O tratamento estatístico aplicado aos dados recolhidos contribuiu para desmistificar a panaceia que ainda paira acerca das vantagens das diferentes certificações nas organizações, bem como atestar a sua eficácia enquanto agentes de melhoria.
By the increasing importance given to integrated management systems in the current literature and the developments that have been registered in certifiable standards towards integration, this study intends to evaluate the contribution of integrated management systems excellence. For this, the presence, contribution and the improving effect sponsored by the management systems in organizations distinguished by the Award of Excellence from the Portuguese Quality System is verified. Even though there are a large number of studies in the areas of the different standards and integrated management systems, based on the literature review which was carried out, it was established that in Portugal there is an absence of equivalent studies to the subject of this dissertation. The use of the questionnaire survey made it possible to inquire those distinguished within the excellence in Portugal and overcoming the geographical dispersion of these organizations. The statistical analysis applied to the data contributed to demystify the panacea that still hangs about the benefits of different certifications in organizations and attest to their effectiveness as improving agents.

In the 2003–2012 years regulations of national educational strategy which are confirmed by Seimas of the republic of Lithuania decision Number IX-1700 (Žin., 2003, Nr.71-3216) in 2003 July 4, it is stated that if you want to vouch accessibility, succession and social justice of educational development you must confirm the socially just learning conditions, create an effective opportunity to develop children who have different abilities and needs. Abstract:
Palladium-catalyzed reactions for carbon-carbon bond formation have had a significant impact on the field of organic chemistry in recent decades. Illustrative is the 2010 Nobel Prize, awarded for “palladium-catalyzed cross couplings in organic synthesis”, and the numerous applications of these transformations in industrial settings. This thesis describes recent developments in C(sp2)-C(sp3) bond formation, focusing on alkane arylation reactions and arylative dearomatization transformations. In the first part, our contributions to the development of intramolecular C(sp3)-H arylation reactions from aryl chlorides are described (Chapter 2). The use of catalytic quantities of pivalic acid was found to be crucial to observe the desired reactivity. The reactions are highly chemoselective for arylation at primary aliphatic C-H bonds. Theoretical calculations revealed that C-H bond cleavage is facilitated by the formation of an agostic interaction between the palladium centre and a geminal C-H bond. In the following section, the development of an alkane arylation reaction adjacent to amides and sulfonamides is presented (Chapter 3). The mechanism of C(sp3)-H bond cleavage in alkane arylation reactions is also addressed through an in-depth experimental and theoretical mechanistic study. The isolation and characterization of an intermediate in the catalytic cycle, the evaluation of the roles of both carbonate and pivalate bases in reaction mechanism as well as kinetic studies are reported. Our serendipitous discovery of an arylation reaction at cyclopropane methylene C-H bonds is discussed in Chapter 4. Reaction conditions for the conversion of cyclopropylanilines to quinolines/tetrahydroquinolines via one-pot palladium(0)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H arylation with subsequent oxidation/reduction are described. Initial studies are also presented, which suggest that this transformation is mechanistically unique from other Pd catalyzed cyclopropane ring-opening reactions. Preliminary investigations towards the development of an asymmetric alkane arylation reaction are highlighted in Chapter 5. Both chiral carboxylic acid additives and phosphine ligands have been examined in this context. While high yields and enantiomeric excesses were never observed, encouraging results have been obtained and are supported by recent reports from other research groups. Finally, in part two, the use of Pd(0)-catalysis for the intramolecular arylative dearomatization of phenols is presented (Chapter 7). These reactions generate spirocyclohexadienones bearing all-carbon quaternary centres in good to excellent yields. The nature of the base, although not well understood, appears to be crucial for this transformation. Preliminary results in the development of an enantioselective variant of this transformation demonstrate the influence of catalyst activation on levels of enantiomeric excess.

Many authors have pointed to issues that need to be taken into account when developing, selecting, and using an SPQ in order to generate valid and reliable scores. In this study, 22 SPQs that met the inclusion criteria used in the literature search were systematically evaluated by two reviewers. The reviewers were most positive about the theoretical basis of the SPQs and about the quality of the SPQ materials. According to their evaluation, most SPQs also had acceptable reliability and construct validity. However, norm information about the quality rating measures was often lacking and few sampling specifications were provided. Information about the features of the SPQs, if available, was also often not presented in an accessible way by the instrument developers (e.g., in a user manual), making it difficult for potential SPQ users to obtain an overview of the qualities of available SPQs in order to decide which SPQs best fit their own context and intended use. It is suggested to create an international database of SPQs and to develop a standardized evaluation framework to evaluate the SPQ qualities in order to provide potential users with the information they need to make a well-informed choice of an SPQ.

Abstract:
Links between cannabis use and psychosis continue to generate research and media attention. Cannabis users have outscored non-users on the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire-Brief (SPQ-B) by a small amount in multiple studies, but previous work on biased items suggests that the groups do not differ if these items are removed. The present study examined links between schizotypal personality, as measured by the SPQ-B, and cannabis use in a large sample recruited from Amazon’s MTurk platform. Over 500 participants (72.5%) reported lifetime cannabis exposure, 259 participants (36.7%) reported current cannabis use, and on average, used 3.5 days per week. Users and non-users failed to differ significantly on total SPQ-B scores or any of the three established subscales, with effect sizes all lower than d = .20. The null results inspired a re-examination of the SPQ-B’s factor structure, which identified a novel 3-factor solution (difficulty opening up to others, hyperawareness, and odd or unusual behavior). Only the “odd or unusual behavior” factor showed cannabis-related differences (g = .234), but a differential item functioning test revealed that one item on that subscale showed potential bias against users. Removing this item dropped the group differences to a non-significant g = 0.149. These results suggest that links between schizotypy and cannabis require cautious interpretation with careful attention to potential measurement bias. In addition, the Schizotypal Personality Questionnaire-Brief might have an alternative factor structure that could help answer important questions in psychopathology.

El cuestionario revisado Study Process Questionnaire (R-SPQ-2F) analiza la aproximación al aprendizaje en diferentes escalas. En el presente estudio se analizaron las respuestas al cuestionario de alumnos de grado y máster de distintas asignaturas relacionadas con las ciencias de la vida en el entorno sociocultural de España. El ajuste del modelo analizado mediante el alfa de Cronbach fue adecuado para medir la aproximación al aprendizaje, profunda o superficial, pero no para las subescalas de medición de estrategia y motivación. Los alumnos manifiestaron mayoritariamente una aproximación profunda al aprendizaje. Si bien se detectaron diferencias entre los estudiantes según asignaturas, no se observaron a nivel global para el nivel de estudios (grado o máster), curso o género.

Aunque hay distintas clasificaciones, los enfoques profundo y superficial aparecen como los más comunes. En el presente estudio se ha utilizado el cuestionario R-SPQ-2F en alumnos de una asignatura de segundo curso de máster durante tres cursos académicos consecutivos. El resultado muestra que los alumnos manifiestan un mayor enfoque profundo que superficial y el cuestionario es valido en el contexto educativo realizado. El género de los estudiantes no fue un factor diferencial, pero sí el curso analizado indciando que había variabilidad entre los estudiantes participantes entre cursos. La motivación intrínseca de los estudiantes y la metodología usada en la asignatura parecen los factores más influyentes en favorecer el aprendizaje profundo de los estudiantes

El enfoque de aprendizaje de los alumnos influye en la actitud de los estudiantes al iniciar una asignatura. Este enfoque se puede clasificar como profundo o superficial, lo que indica la motivación del alumnado respecto a una asignatura. El cuestionario R-SPQ-2F se puede utilizar para evaluar el enfoque de aprendizaje. En el presente trabajo se evaluó el enfoque de aprendizaje en alumnos de una asignatura de primer curso de grado y alumnos de una asignatura de segundo curso de máster durante varios cursos académicos. Los resultados mostraron un elevado enfoque de aprendizaje profundo en ambas asignaturas, aunque mayor en el grado que en el máster. El enfoque no se vio afectado por el curso académico ni por el género del estudiante, pero sí por el idioma de impartición. Las diferencias entre asignaturas podrían explicarse por la edad del alumnado o por su experiencia universitaria que le lleve a tomar un enfoque más estratégico, pero sin llegar a ser superficial.

Aims: The aim of this study was to: (I) estimate the prevalence of SPA among students in Qatar University (QU); (II) assess the correlation between daily duration of smartphone use (SPU) and SPA; (III) assess the relationship between SPA with (a) current Grade point Average (GPA), (b) psychological distress, and (c) students’ perceived negative impact of SPU on their learning and academic performance, sleep at night, social activity, and physical and mental health. Methods: We used a cross-sectional study using a selfadministered survey to address the aims of the study. An electronic survey was distributed to all QU students registered in the Fall 2019 in addition to a paper survey distribution to fifteen classes, selected at random from all colleges in QU. The survey used smartphone addiction scale (SAS) to measure SPA; General Health Questionnaire 28 (GHQ-28) to measure the likelihood of student having “psychological distress”; ten statements to identify students perceived negative impact of SPU on academic performance, sleep at night, physical and mental health, and social activity; current GPA as a measure of academic performance. Descriptive statistics and multivariable linear and logistics regression analyses were performed to analyses the data. The Study was ethically approved QU institutional review Board. Results: A total of 717 students participated in the study. The mean daily duration of SPU among students was 6.5 hours per day (SD= 3.7), and he prevalence of SPA was 59%. Duration of SPU in hours and SPA score (r=0.282, p= <0.001). The prevalence of psychological distress among students was 51.0%. Increase in daily duration of SPU, male gender, presence of psychological stress, not having a chronic disease, and not performing physical exercise in the previous week were independently associated with increased odds of SPA. We found a significant interaction between gender and psychological distress with SPA. Male students with psychological distress were at lower odds of SPA than female students with psychological distress (OR= 0.39; 95% CI 0.17, 0.87). SPA was a statistically significant predictor of all included domains of perceived negative impact of SPU, including sleep at night, learning in class, study time, academic performance, physical and mental health, and social activity. After adjustment for significant variables, students with no SPA had increased odds of having higher current GPA category by 2.04 times (1.05, 3.95) than students with SPA. The characteristics of students did not vary significantly according to survey completion method. The sensitivity analyses showed similar findings between the predictors and the outcome variables in all analyses. Therefore, our sensitivity analyses suggest that our findings are unlikely to have been affected by selection bias, response bias, or social acceptability bias. Conclusion: SPA is highly prevalent among QU students. SPA or longer duration of SPU have negative impact on academic performance, psychological distress, and perceived physical and mental health, and social activity.

Abstract:
PERFORM 60 (Prediction of the effects of radiation for reactor pressure vessel and in-core materials using multi-scale modelling — 60 years foreseen plant lifetime) is a 48-month project of the 7th Framework of the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM) being carried out under the auspices of the Directorate General Research, Technology and Development (DG.RTD) of the European Commission. Launched in March 2009, and building on the achievements of PERFECT, a EURATOM 6th Framework project, PERFORM 60 has as its main objective the development of multi-scale modelling tools integrated onto a common software platform, aimed at predicting for PWRs (i) the effects of irradiation on RPV materials (low alloy bainitic steels), (ii) the combined effects of irradiation and corrosion on internals (austenitic stainless steels). Accordingly, PERFORM 60 is based on two main technical sub-projects: SP1 (RPV) and SP2 (Internals). An integration work package within both SP1 and SP2 serves to facilitate software development. A Users’ Group (SP3) supports the main technical sub-projects and allows representatives of constructors, utilities, regulators and research organizations from Europe and further afield to receive the information and training needed to make their own appraisal as to the validity of the developed tools. A significant effort is also being made to train young researchers in the field of physical modelling of materials degradation due to neutron irradiation. Against this background, the paper provides an overview of SP1, highlighting the various models and methods being developed, building on the achievements of PERFECT, to describe the evolution of flow properties of low-alloy steels with irradiation and address their subsequent effects on cleavage fracture behaviour.
