Abstract:
We investigated the effect of aesthetics in sport on exercise intention and revealed factors influencing the judgment of aesthetics via an open-ended survey. Participants were 75 university students who watched sports video clips and rated the influence of each clip on their exercise intention. Results showed there was a stronger exercise intention after watching clips with high compared to low aesthetic value. Movement, music, and clothing were the three factors that were mentioned most often by participants in regard to aesthetic judgments. Our study highlights the importance of the aesthetic value of sports and provides a method for selection of video materials to utilize these aesthetics to promote public health.

Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between dark personality traits and insomnia by considering the mediated effects of perceived stress and ethical judgments. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 464 university athlete students from individual and team sports. Dark Triad Scale (DTS), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Moral Content Judgment in Sport Questionnaire (MCJSQ) were used. Significant correlation coefficients were observed between the dark personality traits and other variables. Regression analysis showed that psychopathy (about 19%) and ethical judgments (about 16%) could predict insomnia. It was shown that among dark personality traits, psychopathy along with ethical judgments could predict insomnia.

Abstract:
Sport is the highlight of the male-female relationship system. We find that the concept of homogeneity is becoming more and more weakened, sport becomes unisex, which can strongly influence gender judgment in society. The "weaker sex" appearance and spread of the sport indicate that something has changed in the world, so thinking has to change also. Nowadays, there is a dual process in the field of sport: 1.) women appear in the traditionally masculine sports, and this plays an important role in the development of gender relations as mixed races arise; 2.) at the same time, men also appear in previously reserved areas for women, which they have not had opportunities so far (BÉKI, 2018). This phenomenon can be observed, though much slower in sports management. Yet in other sports roles, the gates for both sexes have not yet been opened in masculine and feminine sports. The study deals with how the status of an athlete will be transformed after sport if he/she wants to remain his or her sport in other sports roles - concentrating on coaching and judging roles – to represent his or her own sport. Particularly, we have been focusing on sports whose judgment is not socially acceptable to both sexes. The research sample is team and individual women athletes who are more than 14 years old. Research method is in-depth interview research (n = 145) and questionnaire research (n = 240). The results showed that female athletes are becoming more accepted in masculine sports, although more limited in their careers possibilities than men after an athlete’s life. Their athlete’s identity is strong, they want to stay in the sport on the civilian life as well.

Abstract:
Abstract. IPED consumers seek medical advice when uncertain as to their use. Due to shame or fear of stigmatization IPED consumers are often reluctant to talk about their drug use; they fear prejudice and a lack of experience when caring for this specific patient group. In order to strengthen trust, a non-judgmental, non-stigmatizing and supportive attitude is essential. The interaction should primarily lead to an understanding of why AAS are being used, what the patient’s concerns are, and why medical help is being sought, without judgment or condemnation of the behavior. If no motivation to abstain from drug use is found during the consultation, harm reduction should be sought and the consequences of use addressed. Regular talks and active harm reduction can increase the confidence in evidence-based treatment to achieve personal motivation to abstain under medical supervision.

Abstract:
There are many examples of successful application of the famous Bayes’ theorem to forecast the outcome of causes or influences of events. However, there are also many examples of failures of just using probabilities and statistics without also using judgments in each particular application. This is particularly true in medical diagnoses and in sports. The extension we proposed found a way to calculate probabilities combining logical inference of data and judgment. This research extends the use of Bayes’ theorem by incorporating judgments within the framework of the frequently used decision theory, the analytic network process (ANP) and illustrates its use with an application.

Abstract:
The assumption of risk regulations is a new defense of exemption in the civil code in China. By analyzing the civil judgment documents related to the assumption of risk after the implementation of the civil code, it is found that the court has different understanding of the recreational and sports activities with certain risks, there are differences in the judgment of the participant's cognitive activity risk, and there are disputes over the determination of the offender's no intention or gross negligence, which destroys the unity of judicial application. Therefore, it is advisable to unify the limited contents of recreational and sports activities with certain risks, identify the judgment factors of the participant's cognitive activity risk, and criteria for determining that the participant has no intention or gross negligence, so as to promote the unity of judicial judgment.

Abstract:
Although they remain important areas of practice for women, aesthetic sports are the subject of very few sociological studies. Their interest lies in the fact that they differ from "ordinary" sporting activities, in that they maintain a strong proximity to cultural and artistic practices (Mennesson and Julhe, 2012). Physical appearance constitutes a central dimension of the practitioners' socialization, as well as of the judges' evaluations in these disciplines. Thus, the thesis focuses on the question of "bodily possibilities" (Schotté, 2016) offered to practitioners and judges, as expressed through their performance ratings. The ethnographic study has been carried out in two sports fields - twirling baton and rhythmic gymnastics - which are very similar in terms of motor and regulatory aspects. However, the two disciplines promote differentiated configurations of models of gender (Connell and Messershmidt, 2015). This can be explained by a discrepancy in their social and gendered recruitment and by a differentiated degree of institutionalization. While some coaches and judges attempt to emancipate from these spaces' aesthetic and gender norms, they never succeed in overturning the established heterosexual gender order. In this way, our work brings to light "the new clothes of male domination" (De Singly, 1993) in spaces historically apprehended as paths to empowerment for women

Abstract:
Establishing and enhancing standards of practice is important in any profession, and particularly so in a new and emerging domain such as sport psychology. Accordingly, this thesis draws on literature from teaching, medicine, and parallel disciplines such as clinical and counselling psychology to propose a Professional Judgment and Decision Making (PJDM) approach to the evaluation, reflective practice, and training of applied sport psychologists. Methods and mechanisms already utilised in these more established professions are considered alongside empirical data, generated from long-term programmes of sport psychology consultancy, as potential means to further enhance the performance of professionals in this developing field. As such, the thesis highlights gaps in current process, proposes an original conceptualisation of practice, and illustrates the possible outcomes and implications of this PJDM approach. In addition, the emergent PJDM principles are illustrated in practice through a reflection-in-action case study, and trained and evaluated in novice applied sport psychology practitioners as a basis for the effective development of PJDM expertise.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research was to investigate the sociocultural model of eating disorder development among male and female college student-athletes as moderated by students’ level of Reflective Judgment, a stage theory of adult epistemology marked by increasing cognitive complexity. A review of literature on the established relationships between pressures in sociocultural and sport environments to adhere to body ideals and resulting body dissatisfaction as mediated by body ideal internalization was presented. The Reflective Judgment model was hypothesized as a moderator to body ideal internalization due to its relationship with feminist identity development (a moderator among females) and applicability to both genders to inform current interventions. A sample of 131 NCAA college student-athletes (33 male; 98 female) completed the Perceived Sociocultural Pressures Scale (PSPS), the Weight Pressures in Sport Scale (WPS), the Body Parts Satisfaction Scale (BPSS), the Sociocultural Attitudes Towards Appearance Scale-3 (SATAQ-3) and the Reasoning about Current Issues test (RCI). Multi-sample Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was utilized to examine the hypothesized relationships between the variables and revealed significant differences between genders. In general, males’ higher Reflective Judgment was a full mediator between pressures and body dissatisfaction, resulting in lower body dissatisfaction. However, females’ higher Reflective Judgment was a moderator between pressures and body ideal internalization, resulting in higher body dissatisfaction. These major findings as well as additional findings as elaborated by curvilinear regression analysis, current literature, and theories of socialized gender differences in epistemology were presented. Limitations, areas for further research, and implications for practice were identified.

Abstract:
Sports play an important role in the culture of the United States as does language, so the choice to use non-Standard dialects in a nation that privileges the Standard and negatively judges dialectical differences, especially those spoken by mostly people of color, is not undertaken lightly. Because of this privileging of Standard American English, it is assumed that only professional African American athletes are allowed to keep their native dialect if it is African American English (AAE) and still be successful. However, this is complicated by the historical and present increased criticisms women face in both sport and language. To investigate this claim, a quantitative analysis of post-game interviews of five men and five women in the National Basketball Association and Women’s National Basketball Association, respectively, was conducted. The athletes were analyzed to see if they used dental stopping and be-leveling, two features of AAE. Four additional features of AAE were also investigated on an exploratory basis. Inter-gender variance was found among both genders. Across genders, women used the features of AAE studied an average of 30.6 percent less than men, demonstrating a clear gender difference in the usage of AAE. The results of this study illustrate disparities in women and men’s language use that could be a consequence of the inherent and historical sexism women must face in the realms of both sport and language.

Abstract:
The present study aims at highlighting how soccer practitioners’ evaluation of aggressive behavior occurring during the game is affected by factors pertaining to the concrete circumstances of the match (competitive level, time left to play, current score, the context preceding aggression). It relies on the methodology of Information Integration Theory, an experimental approach to the way multiple informers are integrated and organized into a unified judgment. 32 soccer players, including an equal number of goalkeepers and forwards and of juvenile and junior players were asked to judge, using a graphical rating scale (1-20), the degree to which an aggressive behavior taking place in distinct game scenarios was condemnable. All the participants evaluated the entire set of scenarios, which arose from the full crossing of the factor levels considered in the study (repeated measures full factorial design). The results reveal the importance of the occupied field position, with the goalkeepers showing levels of condemnation significantly higher than those of the forwards. The competitive level of the game (friendly versus championship) proved to be a particularly important modulator of the level of condemnation, leading to less blame in the championship condition. The group of juvenile forwards was shown to be particularly sensitive to the influence of the manipulated factors. In contrast, none of the factors exhibited a significant main effect in the junior forwards. These findings are discussed with a link to the relevant literature and to their potential usefulness for the teaching of sports ethics. A number of limits of the current study are also identified, as well as emerging directions for further future work.

Rader, Christina Ann. "Misjudging our Influence on Others: Blind Spots in Perceptions of Peer Use of Advice." Diss., 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10161/9819.

Abstract:

People give each other advice on a variety of topics throughout their lifetimes. In this dissertation, I ask: Do advisors accurately perceive the impact of their advice? Or, do they possess blind spots that prevent them from doing so? I focus on whether advisors recognize the information they need in order to form judgments of the impact of their advice, which I call "impact judgments". Four studies demonstrate that advisors have blind spots in their perceptions of their influence and that these blind spots have consequences for advisors' accuracy and subsequent behavioral intentions. First, a free-recall task (Study 1) and a manipulated scenario task (Study 2) showed that advisors failed to recognize when they were missing information needed to form accurate impact judgments, namely, information on the advisee's initial, pre-advice opinion, unless they were prompted to think about why they need that information. Second, an experiment where participants were assigned the role of advisor or advisee (Study 3) demonstrated that advisors' impact judgments were less accurate when advisors did not know the advisee's initial, pre-advice opinion. Third, participants' recollections of a time they gave advice (Study 4) showed that advisors relied on their impact judgments for forming downstream behavioral intentions such as willingness to give advice again, even when they recognized that they were lacking needed information. I conclude with a discussion of the implications for advice giving by individuals and members of organizations, a general framework for impact judgments, and areas for future research.

Abstract:
The use of temporal sensor data related to human activity has greatly increased in recent years thanks to smart technology has become widespread and even ubiquitous in our daily lives. Today wearable technology has many roles in our daily life. Wearable technological products allow us to easily obtain a lot of data in the field of sport and health. This data can make it possible to monitor physical condition, athletic performance, training load and can even be used to prevent injury mechanisms or to analyse rehabilitation. Athletics is one of the sports in which performance is tracked metrically and chronometrically. The only exception is race walking which based on subjective observation of the judges in this sport. There is a need for the development and use of wearable technological devices that can support referee judgment in walking and can be used for fair decisions in disqualification and penalty time applications during the competition.

Abstract:
Chapter 7 introduces a distinctive idea of default assumptions and explains how that idea reconfigures earlier virtue epistemology. Default assumptions are endemic to human performance domains generally including games and sports. Our domains of judgment are only special cases in which a telic normativity allows performers to assume by default the standing of the background conditions required for success and aptness of performance. This enables a fresh treatment of philosophical skepticism. The response to the skeptics will be that they have mistaken what is required for the epistemic quality of ordinary judgments and beliefs. This treatment of skepticism is enabled by analogies between epistemic and athletic performance, and between episteme and praxis more generally.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter examines how becoming the first Black champion at Wimbledon and Forest Hills and being one of the most famous Black women in the world brought numerous opportunities for Althea Gibson. Yet all too often the opportunities also revealed people’s judgment of her as a woman who lived with little regard for ideas about what was normal for a person of her race and gender and in the rarefied country-club sport that she played. The chapter then looks at Gibson’s opposition about turning professional, before considering her singing career. Called Althea Gibson Sings, Gibson’s album consisted of a dozen standards with lyrics characterized by longing, loss, and fears, and unrequited love. Finally, the chapter recounts how Gibson defended her titles at Wimbledon and Forest Hills. She viewed her successful defense at Wimbledon as a way of making a case about her place in sports generally and in the annals of tennis history specifically.

Abstract:
Keith Rathbone situates Mon beau rugby among discourses of regional identity, Pétainist nationalistic ideology, and the importance of amateurism in sports. In his assessment of this text, Rathbone calls into question the popular judgment that it falls fully in line with Vichy’s National Revolution and suggests a new reading of the role Voivenal played in the destruction of le rugby à treize in the 1940s. Many historians have situated Mon beau rugby within the context of Vichy’s National Revolution and concluded that it wholeheartedly supported the Pétainist agenda (Dine, 2001, 102-108). Indeed, Voivenel wrote ardently about his belief in the Vichy state and in the role that physical activity could play in the revitalization of the French nation. Nevertheless, Rathbone argues that Mon beau rugby presents an image of local Southwestern rugby culture that is ultimately at odds with Vichy’s plan for national regeneration. Voivenel’s narrative voices support for the policies of the Vichy regime, yet his writing continually challenges the centralization efforts of the state through reflections on the important communal role that rugby association played in rural France. Thus Rathbone’s close reading reveals a more nuanced portrait of a sportsman who simultaneously supported Pétain’s National Revolution and opposed its deleterious effects in the Southwest.

Abstract:
Challenges of modeling domain-specific cognitive competencies within the area of generic skills acquisition have to deal with the modeling of domain specific competence development over the life span. They are confronted with at least two major challenges: (a) the stipulation of benchmarks for the judgment of competence development over the life span (for different requirements and standards across the life span) and (b) a coherent modeling of competence development over different educational stages allowing the description of cumulative developmental progress over time (scale anchoring). As for e-learning, especially in sports sciences, it is not yet fully developed. Main reason for not having a wider acceptance of this form of study programs curricula implementation can be contributed not only to technical but to cultural factors as well. Globalized spreading and popularity of sports sciences call for wider students' audience and participation. The competitive university has to appeal to a large number of the international students. Eastern Europe students want to obtain their education in sports for the knowledge sake but also for the license to work as coaches. Therefore, University of Nis and National Sports Academy as the leading educational institutions in their respective countries strive to establish distance learning centers for sports sciences students thus promoting e-learning and development of possible higher level diploma attainment. This paper presents attempts to establish, through IPA cross border cooperation project, joint distance learning centers in Serbia and Bulgaria for sport sciences curricula implementation and dissemination, having students' benefits as primary challenge and goal.

Abstract:
Corruption is a particularly dangerous scourge, which encompasses the whole of society, all spheres of human activity, and by virtue of this, it also encompasses education, whether we want to recognize it or not. Corruption flourishes in times of great social unrest, in times of crisis that societies are going through, especially in the period of transition from a totalitarian regime to a democratic society. The factor generating corruption is the socio-economic crisis, having as causes: weakening of state authority, degradation of living standards, altered moral judgment, lack of effective control levers, diminished public confidence in institutions and social values, non-adaptation of legislation to economic and social conditions and so on Sport is one of the largest businesses in the world, being influenced and influencing in turn both financial and political interests. Every year, millions of dollars and Euros circulate in this area, most of the transactions and agreements taking place behind closed doors, in order to keep any possible advantage over the competition. This fierce competitiveness, together with the lack of transparency, makes the sports field extremely vulnerable to corruption acts. Summarizing the results of our study, we can conclude: the fight against corruption is an opportunity for beneficiary institutions, which can strengthen and improve their systems for preventing and combating corruption and money laundering and asset recovery, by reference to worldwide first-class practices and standards. Following intense consultations with all beneficiaries in the Republic of Moldova: Minister of Education, Culture and Research, National Olympic and Sports Committee, Paralympics’ Committee, Sports Federations and other structures in the country, in order to ensure effective support in the field of physical culture and sports. The direct relations with the interested actors contribute to the creation of a positive framework, which will favour the general success of the future activities that will take place in obtaining the expected results.

Abstract:
Engineering goals are typically rooted in addressing the functional needs of a product. While these engineering goals and specifications can be important in consumers’ buying decisions, many times the first impression of the product comes from judgments of the product’s aesthetic form. For this reason, this paper set out to study how well human judgment of performance based on a car’s shape correlates with the actual measured performance of the car’s shape, and what features of the car’s shape most influence this judgment. More specifically, participants were asked to rate how aerodynamic, sporty, fuel efficient, and rugged a computer generated car design appeared to them, and these ratings were analyzed against the actual aerodynamics of the vehicle as well as key indicators of sportiness and cornering stability such as center of gravity and wheel stance. The inter-rater consistency of human judgments was also studied. Using this human judgment data, the attributes in car design with the greatest effect on participant judgment of vehicle performance were identified, and were compared against their importance and effect in actual vehicle performance. Analysis of this data gives key insights about how car designers can create designs that better convey the desired goals of a car to consumers while also meeting those performance goals.

Abstract:
In general, professional soccer players excel at situational judgment and express the game situation as if they are viewing the game from directly above the pitch. This cognitive method is called the bird's-eye view and is considered important for accurate situational judgment. It is also known that expert soccer players exhibit visual search behaviors specific to different situations, such as attacking, defending, and one-on-one play. Therefore, there is possibly a visual search behavior unique to bird's-eye view cognition. In this study, we investigated the effects of improvement in bird's-eye view ability on visual search behavior by using a training method involving virtual reality, which was already developed in a previous study. By revealing the visual search behavior specific to the bird's-eye view, we expect to develop a new training method that adds eye-gaze support. In this study, we developed a virtual reality-based bird's-eye view training system using the Unity game engine, a Head Mounted Display, and an HTC VIVE controller. The system consisted of a training task for training the bird's-eye view ability and a three-choice question for evaluating it. The training task consisted of three phases: showing a first-person video from the center of a soccer pitch, sorting player positions on a bird's-eye map of the pitch, and presenting the correct answers. First, we examined the effects of a training task on the bird's-eye view ability in a system. The experiment was conducted on nine male subjects aged between 20 and 30. The subjects were divided equally into three groups. An experimental group was assigned the training task, control group 1 were showed the first-person video and were informed about the correct answers, and a control group 2 were only provided with the first-person video. The participants answered 10 three-choice questions as a pre-task, performed the training task 10 times, and answered 10 three-choice questions as a post-task. At the end of the experiment, the participants answered a questionnaire about their experience with sports, video games, and changes in their cognition. As a result, the experimental group and control group 1 performed better on the post-task than on the pre-task in training. In particular, the growth rate of the scores of the experimental group was higher than that of control group 1. This suggests that the participants may have acquired a bird's-eye view of cognition through training. In addition, in the questionnaire, two participants in the experimental group responded that they "stopped shaking their heads a lot”. This suggests that the improvement of bird's-eye view ability may have influenced the visual search behavior. Next, we conducted an experiment to investigate the relationship between bird's-eye view cognition and visual search behavior based on eye-gaze information and head movements during training. This experiment clarified the relationship between bird's-eye view cognition and visual search behavior, and is expected to lead to the development of better bird's-eye view training using eye gaze support.

Abstract:
Hand lay-up is one of methods for FRP molding and it is the most traditional and common molding method that can deal with various shapes according to workmen skill. However, the quality of the composites depends on the techniques of workmen and the judgment with hand lay-up technique is too difficult, because it has not clarified that the difference of that techniques has how influence with manufactured products. In this study, motion analysis was used to compare the difference between hand lay-up techniques by expert and non-expert. Expert’s carrier of hand lay-up was 25 years and non-expert’s carrier was a year. Motion analysis, which is applied to various fields like sports or traditional crafts and so on, can visualize human motion. The Mac 3D System was used as equipment, since it is the most powerful tool for the motion capture and analysis particularly. The sampling rate was 60 Hz. The object of this study was to contribute that technique back to fabrication fields by analyzing and considering what was important factor. Furthermore, this trial is thought that leads to the development of new technology. As the result, the motion of expert’s lower half of body indicated different motion compared with non-expert one. Expert’s centroid moved smoothly and his motion showed constant tendency. On the other hand, non-expert’s motion was awkward in several points and his motion didn’t show the tendency like expert. Furthermore their total processes were almost same; however, non-expert spent more time on finishing touches than expert. Expert spent a third of his total time on finishing touches but non-expert one was a half of his total process. In addition, the quality of manufactured products that they made was different. Hand lay-up technique is discussed based on the motion analysis method, and moreover, it is possible to evolve hand lay-up technique further (We are calling “advanced-Hand lay-up”).
