Full textThis multidisciplinary research explores the mechanisms of the system of representations concerning the figure of the athlete with a visible disability. Since its emergence in the medical field at the end of the Second World War, para-sport has been an indicator of the place of people with disabilities in our society. Initially apart of the hegemonic valid model, Paralympics games are now mega-events of the show business sport, generating symbolic changes that we analyze from 2012 to 2021. Social production and perception of supercrip by mass medias and the general public contain social issues of disabled visibility that go beyond the sport field. The interpretative guides given by the mediatization of disabled athletes influence public view and attitude. They are simplified and operating cultural model that can reach the widest possible audience. Thus, studying the self-building process of representation on the social networks by athletes with disabilities offers an additional change in perspective that completes our exploration. We examined three Instagram accounts of intercultural paralympics French athletes with a nethnographic approach. It showcases a reconfiguration of social links and different ways of self-creation on the Internet. Despite an increasing visibility of disability, the media coverage of the Paralympic Games and the digital identities built on social networks remain within a categorical and normalized logic. To overcome this limit, we have conducted a hybrid and experimental investigation relating to a shared sport practice based on disable-valid mix. With a situated knowledges status, our participative method is a framework of co-practice and co-construction of representations where personal experience and diversity are combined

Full textMentally disabled subjects attending a specialized institute and who are subjected to an integration project gothrough a number of experiments marked with failures, unexpected meturus, and exclusions which threaten their well-being. Our study deals with a group of 20 mentally disabled individuals aged 12 to 18 attending an IME (Specialized Education Institute) and members of a traditional sportsclubs. The reasons for these failures could be attributed to a choice of sport which would be unsuitable for the subjects because of their abilities and their real needs. In order to gather field data, we used the interview or observation techniques or both simultaneously through an analysis of speech and observation. The reference to a “conative model” enabled us to set up a conative curriculum personal to every actor in the situation (institutional personnel, club assistants and subjects) and allowed us therefor to identify the actors conations, the socio conative conflicts generated between different groups and particularly their levels and nature. These conflicts stem from the absence of integration mediators both material or human. The setting up of an integration scheme based on a conative pedagogy will enable a permanent assessment and regulation of the activities proposed to the subjects by means of the setting up situations best adapted to their abilities and real needs, thus favouring their well-being

Full textDealing with political economics of professional sport, this thesis is willing to understand the regulation of sports broadcasting rights in the European Union. We refer to competition law and social justice theories to identify the reasons of an intervention through two classical criteria: efficiency and equity. Sports rights markets reveal an anticompetitive structure potentially affecting consumers’ welfare. National listing events refer to an immaterial cultural patrimony. One last argument relies on the existence of positive externalities justifying a free to air access. The regulation of sports rights markets illustrates the “economic” and “non economic” nature of sports rights that justifies a combination of an economic and cultural regulation

Full textMost of the analyses dealing with gender models in sport medias lead to the same conclusion: a strong conformity to sexual order. Widely studied in Anglo-Saxon literature, male and female media representations in specialized sport magazines are particularly representative of what CONNELL (1987) calls the hegemonic masculinity and the emphasized feminity. On this basis, this thesis compares the results of these studies by meticulously analysing the gender models presented in specialised mountain bike publications. As mountain biking is an equipped outdoor activity, it is at first sight be associated to male and female models which are quite remote from the most traditional definitions of the sex categories. The analysis of the corpus, based on three main magazines in the field: Vélo Vert, Vélo Tout Terrain and VTTMag confirms at first the strong presence of the most extreme aspects of both hegemonic masculinity and emphasized feminity. But some riding contexts or specific statuses among the Mountain Bike circle provide the readers with much more innovative gender models, quite remote from the traditional media representations. Studying the Mountain Bike circle by focusing on the gender model construction in specialised publications permits to question the role of media in the production of a legitimate definition of the activity, but also to underscore the doxa (BOURDIEU, 1997) that structures this field of practice in terms of sex social relations. The analysis of career paths and journalistic practices shows that two distinct kinds of journalists exist. Based on opposite professional identification processes, these two profiles lead to more or less critical relationships with the Mountain Bike circle and the gender models enhanced in them. Moreover, these sex social relations which prevail among the editorial staffs prevent women from being heard. Insufficient in number, weakened by their status of freelance journalist and male journalist's wife, they come up against the strong male sociability which is in force in editorial offices, genuine places of construction of a "Mountain Bike masculinity". Beyond the importance of the production unit, the publishing unit, and more precisely the different publishing houses, their history, their organization, highly influence the position of each title, strongly orientating the modes of mise en scene of gender models

Full textFrom the second half of the 19th century, Upper Normandy has played a cutting edge role in the development of the sport culture. Its proximity to Paris and England, its commercial and industrial vitality or even the early building of the railway in the west has favoured the propagation of the « sport spirit ». The study of the specific case of Rouen aims at understanding how this dynamism persisted during the interwar years. Il also lies in the questioning on the conditions of the spreading of sport culture by considering that the peculiarities of the local approach represent one of the possible expressions of the national diversity. By having recourse to both oral (biographies) and written sources (administrative files, regional press) but also to photographic and film sources that are either preserved in public institutions (Archives Municipales de la Ville de Rouen, Archives départementales de la Seine-Maritime, Bibliothèque Nationale de France) or stemming from private funds. This thesis focuses on sport and its relation to society. Under the 3rd republic, the development of various forms of sociabilities that are based on sport and physical activities lead to the integration of places of practice in Rouen's urban landscape and the advent of associations which is carried out according to national as well as local influence. The time of structuration of a sport policy at the local level in the early 1930s which reinforces the activity of associations follows the inertia of Rouen town council in the 1920s. If sportsmen and champions in particular are hardly ever linked to decisions concerning the local sport organisation, the influence of Rouen's town counsellors and sport leaders during the interwar years and a sport public service was born out of this cooperation

Full textThe prodigious development of sports during the last 25 years is accompanied by an extension of the concept of dissimilar practices. Athletics, classical national sports, and leisure sports should be distinguished from each other. In our thesis, after having proposed a diachronical model of the reationship between these 3 categories and having listed the different work accomplished in the psychology and sociology of sports we propose a model describing the path taken by the subject in the frawork of the classical national sports and analyse the manner in wich athletics function, as well the particularities of leisure sports. The large factors wich direct the choice of the subject is studied. Culture first : research on the differentiated succes of countries in the olympic games showed that two sport ethics oppose each other. Environmental influence is theexamined. The social class to wich the subject belongs, his family, school prove to be pimordial elements. The media represents a powerful factor of influence in our civilisation the most important chaptor of the thesis is dedicated to this role, and several cases are presented - notably one conducted on a repre- sentative sample of the french population. This case clealy shows the impact of a series of television programs on the attitude of those who watch them. Finally, personal factors are examined. The role of women's condition are studied on the men and women of the french selection at the los angeles olympic games (1984). The study of the personality ends the thesis. A series of case stu- dies reveal that the classical approach with personality questionna- ries is inefficient. To conclude, we propose a few means of action for the teacher

Full textThis study deals with rugby media coverage as a narration featuringplayers as characters. These characters appear throughout our work ascategorizing denominations building the typification of these players, typificationarticulated to a narrative identity. Our study is based upon discourse analysis as akey methodological tool, using the concepts of type, stereotype, andcategorization through a theory called “praxematique” (linguistics) and throughconceptualization. This work deals with an entire season of rugby championship, covered by television commentaries and articles, in order to reveal the discursiveadjustments at work in the elaboration of these characters

Full textSport is acknowledged, by an increasing number of sociologists, as an heuristic way to understand contemporary societies. During year 2007, sports institution was faced up to a particular situation. Indeed, Oscar Pistorius, a double legs amputated athlete with artificial lower limbs, takes part in « able bodied » competitions (international athletics meetings). The singularity of this situation causes media covered controversies regarding legitimacy of his involvement. The study of this case, based on a « pragmatic » approach, highlighting what those controversies show from sport in contemporary societies. The analysis of media speeches about Pistorius reveals that this athlete poses a sports categorization problem. Indeed, on the one hand, the performances he produces distinguishes between him and « disabled athlete » category and seems to allow to put him in the « able bodied » one. But, on the other hand, his artificial limbs prevent from validating this sports classification. Despite the verdict of the Court of Arbitration for Sport which autorises him to take part in all athletics competitions, the persistence of controversies shows that Pistorius’ situation gives a breach of sports understandability. Then, this situation has to be understood like a monstrousness, in the Foucaldian sense of the word, because it messes up the required definitions to think sport. Challenging sports institution basis, thus the disputed pistorius’ situation reveals the way in which sport sets athletes in order. More exactly, this monstrousness proves sport inability to take charge of the efficient fited bodies radical difference
