Abstract:
Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen: Otto Sperling the younger’s Latin biography of Leonora Christina (ca. 1690) Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen: The Danish antiquarian Otto Sperling the younger (1634‑1715) worked for most of his life on a manuscript titled ‘De foeminis doctis’, now in the collection of the Royal Library, shelfmark GKS 2110 quarto, which containedshort biographies of a total of 1,399 learned women from all ages and nations (cf. Fund og Forskning, 2012, pp. 187‑212). One of these is Leonora Christina (1621‑1698), the daughter of Christian IV and his morganatic wife, Kirsten Munk, and a major figure in Danish literature thanks to her prison narrative Jammers Minde and her so-called ‘French Autobiography’. Sperling’s Latin biography focuses on her literary achievements and contains information not found elsewhere. It has been known to scholarship for generations, and a partial translation from the eighteenth century exists in manuscript, but the text has never been published, probably because it consists of 24 pieces distributed over 18 different pages between pp. 306 and 401 of vol. I of the manuscript. It is here edited and translated into Danish for the first time, and it is argued that Sperling composed it on the basis of a series of interviews with the ageing Leonora Christina after her release from prison in 1685. In other words, Sperling functioned as Leonora Christina’s ghostwriter, and the text should really be considered autobiographical and placed alongside the Jammers Minde and her French Autobiography as an authentic expression of her personality.

Abstract:
Dommene anskues kritisk.

Abstract:
Sperling's partial/whole-report methodology (Sperling, 1960) was employed with dimensions from integral and separable stimuli as selection cues. The redundancy of the stimulus combinations presented was varied in correlated, control, and orthogonal conditions, and selective readout performance was measured. In this way, the effects of the noncued dimension on selective readout of the cued dimension could be characterized for integral and separable stimuli. Results support and extend the findings recently presented by Burns and indicate that stimulus structure (e.g., integral, separable) is an important factor in determining the feature integration or feature segregation of dimensional combinations in selective readout from iconic memory.

Abstract:
The so-called JKR theory of adhesion between elastic spheres in contact (Johnson, Kendall & Roberts 1971, Sperling 1964) has been widely used in micro-tribology. In this paper the theory is extended to solids of general shape and curvature. It is assumed that the area of contact is elliptical which turns out to be approximately true, though the eccentricity is different from that for non-adhesive contact. Closed form expressions are found for the variation with load of contact radius and displacement, as a function of the ratio of principal relative curvatures of the two bodies in contact. The pull-off force is found to decrease with increasing eccentricity from its value of 3πΔγR/2 in the case of contact of spheres of radius R.

Abstract:
The paper introduces steadiness evaluation indexes for running passenger car in relation to vibration data, which are non-stationary signals that its statistic characteristics vary with time and calculated by Sperling formula. Then joint time– frequency analysis is used for the post-processing of the vibration signals during calculation. The classical Fast Fourier Transformation has been applied to acceleration data in railway vehicles in order to evaluate the running steadiness performance of passenger car, but cannot provide connection between the frequency domain and the time domain. Nowadays the power of data analysis tools like the Short Time Fourier Transformation is well known and spread. It cannot only provide the characterization of the vibration signals in frequency domain, but also any information on how the frequency changes over time. As an example, the running steadiness evaluation indexes of passenger car are given for the dynamic test in the Haerbin—Dalian special passenger transport railway line. Experimental results show that the approach of Short Time Fourier Transformation can be used both to evaluate the quality of running steadiness of passenger car, and to analyze the structure of the acceleration signals generated by trains.

Abstract:
Recently, the problem of abnormal vibration of the EMU carbody has occurred from time to time. When the carbody is abnormally vibrated, the Sperling index and ride comfort of the vehicle can be greatly reduced, which is unfavorable for its operation. The paper established and a vehicle-shake simulation model which was verified based on the measured wheel-rail profile and vibration data. Additionally, the causes and solutions of abnormal vehicle body vibration were studied. The research results illustrate that the EMU has a relatively high level of wheel-rail equivalent conicity in the shaking section, causing the secondary hunting instability. The main frequency of the instability is 9-10 Hz, which is close to the first-order diamond mode frequency of the carbody. Therefore, the elastic resonance of the carbody occurs, resulting in the shake phenomenon. Through simulation analysis, it is found that wheelset reprofiling and rail polishing can improve the operation stability of EMUs and effectively solve the shaking motion; Furthermore, increasing the first-order diamond mode frequency of the carbody and controlling the hunting phase of the front and rear bogies can also avoid the shaking motion. At the same time, the equivalent conicity management through the detection of the wheel profile can efficiently prevent the hunting instability and carbody shaking, providing a reference for wheel reprofiling and rail polishing.

Abstract:
Abstract The virtual track train is a new type of urban rail vehicle that combines some of the characteristics of bus, tram and light EMU. It is a special fusion of automobile and rail, also it will become a new attempt to alleviate the pressure of urban road traffic. The dynamic performance of the virtual track is also begun since its popularization and application. In this paper, based on the theory of rail vehicle dynamics and tire dynamics, the dynamic performance of two kinds of virtual track train (group A - 5 module and group B - 2 module) is simulated by using multi-rigid body software. Among them, the tire model adopts magic formula tire model, and the dynamic performance evaluation index is vertical stability (Sperling index) and smoothness (total weighted acceleration rms value). Through calculation and analysis, it can be obtained that the vertical stability and smoothness index of the group A are better than the group B under the condition of AW0 and AW2; The vertical stability and smoothness of group A and group B show a downward trend with the increase of speed is, the higher the speed, the worse the vertical stability and the smoothness are. The vertical stability of group A under two conditions the averageness is less than 2.5, the rms value of the total weighted acceleration is less than 0.315, which meet the requirements. The vertical stability of group B can meet the requirements. Its smoothness shows different conclusions under different operating conditions that AW0 can meet the requirements, but AW2 can’t.

Ride comfort of high-speed trains is studied using Sperling's comfort index. Dynamic model is developed in the frequency domain and the power spectral density (PSD) of the body acceleration is obtained for four classes of tracks. Abstract Instrumented field studies during oscillation trials for a new metro line and metro coaches were used to obtain Sperling’s ride index for the same. Ride index was also evaluated using a SIMPACK model. Actual coach, track, and speed information were used in the SIMPACK model. Ride index was seen to be influenced by track, velocity, and acceleration profiles. Ride indices were seen to be different in different directions (vertical, lateral and longitudinal). In the absence of track irregularities in SIMPACK, match between oscillation trail and SIMPACK results is best for longitudinal and worst for vertical ride indices.

Abstract:
The ride comfort of high-speed trains passing over railway bridges is studied in this paper. The effects of some nonlinear parameters in a carriage-track-bridge system are investigated such as the load-stiffening characteristics of the rail-pad and the ballast, rubber elements in the primary and secondary suspensions systems. The influence of the track irregularity and train speed on two comfort indicators, namely Sperling’s comfort index and the maximum acceleration level, are also studied. Timoshenko beam theory is used for modelling the rail and bridge and two layers of parallel damped springs in conjunction with a layer of mass are used to model the rail-pads, sleepers and ballast. A randomly irregular vertical track profile is modelled, characterised by a power spectral density (PSD). The ‘roughness’ is generated for three classes of tracks. Nonlinear Hertz theory is used for modelling the wheel-rail contact.

Abstract:
Abstract Safety and comfort are more critical factors prior to efficient and economical travel for any passenger train. Due to the wheel-rail interaction at high speed, high amplitude vibrations occur that deteriorate the ride comfort of the passengers. In this paper, a multi-body dynamic model is developed by using Adams/VI-Rail software. Actual parameters of track and LHB coach are considered to simulate the rail vehicle model. Sperling’s ride index (Wz) method determines the ride indices values at different speeds with random track irregularity. The proposed multi-body dynamic model is analysed, and the results are compared with oscillation test trials performed and reported by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO). Obtained results were in good agreement and within permission values. The validated model can be extended to study the improvements in ride quality and ride comfort by introducing a semi-active suspension system based on an MR damper.
