Abstract:
The field of sports dentistry mainly deals with the prevention and management of sports-related to maxillofacial trauma. There are many potential challenges to the oral health of athletes including exercise-induced trauma, dental decay due to specialized diet, lack of awareness, oral dehydration and lack of prioritization for dental care. However, there is good evidence that some oral diseases are preventable by simple interventions with good efficacy. Hence dentists today must respond to these patient's specialized needs, providing them with the quality of care that they deserve. In this review article, we discuss the various preventive aspects of sports-related injuries and the impeccable role of dentist in preventing and managing the sport-related oro-facial injuries.

Abstract:
Dietetic therapy plays an important role in prevention and treatment of non-communicable, alimentary-dependent diseases including the bile duct diseases and chronic liver injury. The medico-biological requirements for the composition and quality of specialized semi-finished products for prevention and treatment of liver diseases are formulated and formalized in the paper. Using the methods of the computer design, the recipe of the specialized minced meat semi-finished product from horse meat, which is nutrient adequate to specific features of nutrition of patients with liver diseases, was developed and optimized. The experimental recipe of minced semi-finished products consists of horse meat of the second grade, soy protein fiber, soy protein isolate, textured soy flour, milk thistle oil meal, chicken eggs, soybean oil, salt, onion, vitamins B1, B2 and E, magnesium and zinc salts. The biological value of the obtained product is characterized by the high indices of the amino acid balance (Cmin=0.99, σс =0.85, U=6.27) and fatty acid balance of lipids ((RLi) I = 1…3 = 0.9 and (RLi) I = 1…6 -0.77). The content of dietary fibers, vitamins B1 and B2 as well as mineral salts of magnesium and zinc in the semi-finished product corresponds to the medico-biological requirements. The effectiveness of the developed product was confirmed in the experiment of the laboratory mice with simulated liver cirrhosis. The results of the assessment on the laboratory animals show that the developed product positively influences the processes of metabolism in the mouse body. The coefficient of protein assimilation in the group of animals fed with the specialized product was 25% higher than in animals received the standard vivarium diet. The biochemical blood analysis showed that intake of the developed product reduced the content of bilirubin, cholesterol, AST and ALT in the animal body by 34.5%, 8.2%, 11.0% and 12.5%, respectively.

Abstract:
Owing to the continued occurrence of infectious diseases, proactive prevention and management plans are required. This study aimed to develop design guidelines to effectively respond to infectious diseases based on the needs of apartment residents, which focused on a South Korean setting. The research method included a literature review to identify apartment planning concepts for preventing and managing infectious diseases, a survey of 300 participants using the Kano model, and an analysis of the quality attributes (QAs) of the survey results to prioritize design guidelines. After reviewing 20 studies, 65 items related to apartment-unit planning for infectious disease prevention, including 108 keywords, were identified. Using thematic analysis, the keywords converged into three planning concepts: hygiene, convenience, and comfort. Based on the literature review, 27 survey questions were derived, and a Kano model QA analysis was performed. As a result, 17 attractive QAs, two one-dimensional QAs, seven indifferent QAs, and one reverse QA were identified. Among these, 13 items that had a significant impact on residents’ satisfaction were classified as essential requirements, and the remaining 14 items were classified as recommended design guidelines. The results of this study provide insights into an evidence-based framework for complex building design guidelines to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To describe the pressure injury (PI) knowledge and attitudes of senior nursing students (SNSs). METHODS This study used a descriptive and cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of SNSs involved in a nursing program in the Aegean region of Turkey. The authors collected data using a student information form, the Turkish version of the Attitude towards Pressure Ulcer Prevention instrument, and the Turkish version of the Pressure Ulcer Prevention Knowledge Assessment Instrument. RESULTS One hundred seventy SNSs were included; 50% had experience preventing PI, 14.1% had provided care to patients with PIs, and 21.2% had staged PIs. The SNSs’ average PI prevention knowledge score was 13.06 ± 2.94 (50.3% correct), and only 20.5% (n = 35) of the SNSs answered questions at an acceptable proficiency level (60%). The mean Attitude towards Pressure Ulcer Prevention score of the SNSs was 39.38 ± 2.73 (75.7% correct). CONCLUSIONS The results of the research indicated that the SNSs’ knowledge about preventing PI was insufficient, although their attitudes toward PI prevention were positive. Because adequate training on PI is important for patient care, students’ knowledge deficiencies regarding PIs should be identified and addressed.

Abstract:
Aim. To evaluate the diagnostic approaches to viral hepatitis B and immune response on hepatitis B vaccination among clinical dispensary of dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases medical staff. Methods. The study included 92 serum samples of healthcare facility staff who underwent hepatitis B vaccination more than 7 years before. To assess the post-vaccination immunity, levels of antibodies to surface antigen of hepatitis B (anti-HBS) were determined by ELISA. Published data on the duration of post-vaccination immunity and annual reporting forms of clinical dispensary of dermatology and sexually transmitted diseases of Kazan in 2013 were analyzed. Results. Patients with human immunodeficiency virus, viral hepatitis B and C are often seeking for medical aid, retaining the risk for medical staff and other patients to be infected. Diagnosis of hepatitis B virus in medical settings is based on the detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBSAg), while revealing hepatitis B core antigen (HBCAg), anti-HBC (summary levels), extra-Dane particle antigen (HBEAg) and other markers of viral hepatitis B would allow to diagnose a latent form of hepatitis B. In 56.5% (n=92) of cases, anti-HBs levels were below the protective titer, suggesting higher risk for infection and requiring an additional revaccination. In the remaining 43.5% of cases, protective antibodies titers were revealed, confirming the effectiveness of specific prevention measures. Conclusion. Despite the mass vaccination for hepatitis B, owing to post-vaccination immunity weakening over time, revaccination of medical staff remains important.

Abstract:
At the end of 2019, an outbreak of a new coronavirus infection occurred in the People’s Republic of China (PRC), with its epicenter in the city of Wuhan (Hubei Province). The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined the official name of the infection caused by the novel coronavirus as Coronavirus disease 2019 («COVID-19») [4]. The International Committee on the Taxonomy of Viruses assigned the official name of the causative agent of infection – SARS-CoV-2 [3]. In accordance with the sanitary legislation of the Russian Federation, the virus is assigned to pathogenicity group II [5]. COVID-19 occurs in two main forms that are subject to registration as independent nosological units: clinically pronounced – (U07.1) and carriage of the causative agent of coronavirus infection – (Z22.8) [4]. All forms of manifestations of coronavirus infection are dangerous, but the asymptomatic form poses the greatest epidemiological danger, due to the difficulty of detection and, as a result, the untimely implementation of anti-epidemic measures [2]. The role of COVID-19 as a healthcare-associated infection has been established [3]. Sysin E.I. and co-authors established the maximum values of the foci index (IO) for nosocomial spread of COVID-19 in psychiatric hospitals [9]. The inclusion of COVID-19 in the «List of diseases that pose a danger to others» [7] determines the epidemic significance of the disease. Keywords: new coronavirus infection, anti-epidemic regime, psychiatric hospital, quality of anti-epidemic regime.

Abstract:
The present research starts from the idea of preventing language disorders from an early age, given the results of previous research on the effectiveness of early interventions. Following a preliminary documentation that consisted in the study of Romanian legislation, specialized literature, speech therapy aids, speech therapy software, sites with medical profile and special pedagogy, it was found an insufficient approach to prevention and we wanted to investigate what activities speech therapy teachers consider to be included in the concept of prevention. We also sought to find out to what extent speech therapists take into account the prevention part and what activities they carry out for this purpose. The results were limited and we see them from at least two perspectives: the small group of participants that led to limited data and the absence or quasi-absence of prevention in speech therapy, this being too little described in the literature and outlined as a methodology in school documents. The most common options chosen by language therapists for prevention were to carry out speech therapy activities in prevention groups under the age of 5 and to carry out information activities for educators and parents and only then screening activities

Abstract:
The chronic condition of some pathology may lead the patient to a critical condition or even to an end-stage, putting the multidisciplinary group in an ethical conflict; as well as the family. Considering that the objective of healthcare staff has always been the well-being through prevention and correction of the clinical condition, avoiding, at all times, to relief pain and suffer, now having to address the therapeutic help to a “good death” of the patient. The cultural conditions have changed and death is not perceived the same way it used to be, nor by the society nor the group providing attention and care to the critical or end-stage patient, generating expectations for each case, separating the patient from reason and reality (1). Today, science has had a technological advance having a direct impact on the vital function of the patient, having a direct influence on the time, but mainly on the way of death, focusing the attention on the possible decisions of the seriously sick patient, starting the era of an “assisted death”, as opposed to a natural death (1,2).

The article presents scientific views of criminology scientists on the system of subjects of criminal offence prevention, defines the system of subjects of criminal offence prevention in the field of official activities and professional activities related to provision of public services, and gives its main characteristics, analysis of the content of activities and functional powers of subjects of prevention vested with special powers in the field studied. The system of specialized subjects of criminal offense prevention in the field of official activities and professional activities related to provision of public services is regarded as a set of legal entities and individuals, state and public institutions united by a common goal and scope of tasks aimed at preventing socially dangerous acts, ensuring implementation of the state policy, organization and coordination of preventive activities, performance of functions regarding prevention, direct detection and cession of encroachments, restoration of the rights of victims, as well as elimination of criminogenic phenomena and processes in a certain area of public relations. The analysis of the legislative and regulatory acts regulating activities of relevant public institutions at the special preventive criminology level has resulted in the classification of subjects of preventive activity, outlining the normative and legal basis of activity, giving characteristics of the functional component and the scope of tasks of such subjects.Attention is focused on the fact that despite existing legislative acts and bylaws defining the crime reduction strategy and the anti-corruption strategy, corruption-related crimes still remain at quite high level.Based on the results of the study, the authors come to the general theoretical conclusion about the urgency of developing and adopting a comprehensive legislative act that will determine the grounds, principles, tasks of preventive activities, the system and legal status of subjects of such activities (their rights and obligations), guarantees for their activities, the peculiarities of preventive measures implementation (conditions, procedure, terms, etc.), the responsibility for violation of the requirements of this legislative act, which will create prerequisites for both reducing procedural violations and improving the performance of law enforcement institutions.

Abstract:
Development of policies for the prevention of every nature of organized crime from the security institutions of the Republic of Kosovo is an important element through which is aimed the coordination of works and prevention activities in order to respond to negative phenomena through taking precautions. Prevention means all activities that impact on halting and reducing crime as a social phenomenon, both quantitatively as well as qualitatively, through occasional initiatives (ad hoc). Advancing capacity to prevent crime is the need of the time and the challenge faced by the countries of the Western Balkans, especially Kosovo, because in this area there is still the old belief that only the police should be involved to prevent and fight trafficking of human beings. Nature and trends of trafficking of human beings have taken a direction in which the police as law enforcement agency cannot as such prevent these crime phenomena. Therefore, it is time imperative that in the field of crime prevention of human trafficking engage all relevant institutions with special emphasis on civil society and community in particular. To cope with the challenges of preventing and fighting trafficking of human beings, activities within state’s territory are not sufficient, but it is vital that states align and coordinate activities at the regional level in real time, place and space identified for common actions. This paper aims to address this phenomenon not only in the case of Kosovo, but also in the Western Balkan region. The main thesis of this paper is the articulation of the problem in order to successfully prevent the phenomenon of trafficking of human beings through awareness of citizens, while from institutions is required opening of perspectives for new generations, for work and life, through economic development, fighting poverty, stimulating employment and preventing the migration in different countries. To successfully prevent crime, particularly trafficking in human beings, it is necessary that responsible institutions have sufficient human resources, specialized and equipped with technical tools and necessary technology, to have continuous specialized training and to deal with all phenomena of organized crime.

Abstract:
There is an asymmetry in the disability research. Much more research is devoted to the problems of living conditions of people with disabilities and the instruments of their support and activation. Prevention of accidents, injuries and chronic diseases leading to disability is less researched. The article indicates that research on disability prevention should be multidisciplinary and based on the life course and settings (place of living) approach, preferably with the use of longitudinal observation. Correspondingly to this proposal, examples of studies meeting the author's suggestions are noted, as well as the guidelines of WHO and other specialized organizations on the use of developed definitions, creating national databases and mobilizing stakeholders for participation in adequate data collection process at international level.

Abstract:
The prevalence of myopia in children and juveniles has increased significantly in Korea and worldwide; in particular, the rates of myopia and high myopia in East Asia have grown rapidly. Myopia is easily corrected with spectacles or contact lenses. However, as children grow and mature, myopia can progress irreversibly and lead to vision-threatening complications. Thus, the prevention of myopia progression is an essential treatment goal. Many treatment strategies are being employed, including atropine eyedrops, specialized glasses, and orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses. Ortho-K is an effective treatment in managing myopia progression by lowering the rate of increase in refractive error and axial length. In this article, we review Ortho-K as a treatment for myopia progression, its history, mechanism, treatment regimen, and safety profile.

Abstract:
The problem of the effectiveness of crime prevention in the modern conditions is acquiring the features of a global one. The strategies of counteracting new forms of crime are formed and tested at international and national levels withing the framework of cooperation of different subjects. The technologies adapted for criminal purposes require an adequate reaction from the state in the form of improving criminal policy and reconsidering approaches to crime counteraction, including the use of international experience in combination with specific national features. Crime prevention is viewed as a process with its own content, which includes a multitude of subjects and objects. The variety of subjects and forms of their interaction gives rise to the necessity of researching their essence and legal status in order to build a system combining optimal ways of influencing these objects. Law enforcement bodies have the greatest potential, they act as specialized subjects carrying out tasks through authorized officials. Lying outside the scope of research is the unsolved problem of defining subjects responsible for preventing crimes against officials of law enforcement bodies, as shown by the official statistical data of the Russian Federation correlating with data from other countries. They are specialized subjects of crime prevention, and if a crime is committed against them, they lose the status of subjects and become objects in the newly emerged legal relations. This leads to the necessity of singling out a new category of subjects responsible for the prevention of crimes committed against the officials of law enforcement bodies. Their status should be researched on the basis of the current legislation, court practice, and national legal doctrine by singling out the rights, responsibilities, guarantees and liability of such subjects.

Abstract:
Diet plays a central role in the development and prevention of nephrolithiasis. Although pharmacologic treatment may be required for some patients who are resistant to dietary measures alone, dietary modification may be sufficient to modulate stone risk for many patients. While there is no single specialized diet for stone prevention, several dietary principles and recommendations for stone prevention are supported by practice guidelines, including adequate fluid intake, modest calcium intake, low dietary sodium, and limited animal protein. In this review, we summarized the evidence supporting these dietary recommendations and reviewed the current literature regarding specific dietary components and comprehensive diets for stone prevention.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the problem of the institutional support for combating corruption. The scatter and dispersion in the anti-corruption functions among the law enforcement agencies are considered to be a significant component of the problem of the institutional support for combating corruption. The functioning of some specialized anti-corruption agencies is also analyzed in the article. Priority areas for improvement of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and National Anti-Corruption Burea of Ukraine are singled out. It is justified that the functioning of The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is a special law enforcement activity to combat corruption in public authorities and local self-government. It is concluded that due to the possibility of ambiguous insight into the system of agencies implementing measures on preventing and combating corruption, the legislation should clearly define this notion in a single legal act with a clear division of responsibilities and forms of interaction, as well. Furthermore, the authors of the article develop proposals on ways to combat corruption in Ukraine, including legislative, and organizational and managerial ideas concerning the implementation of the experience in preventing and combating corruption following the example of foreign countries. In particular, the main priorities of the state anti-corruption policy in Ukraine should be defined in a special regulation – the Anti-Corruption Strategy. The previous Anti-Corruption Strategy and the State Program for its implementation expired in December 2017, so Ukraine should have started the year 2018 with new versions of these documents. For more than two years, Ukraine has not had a major strategic document in the field of corruption prevention. The draft Law on Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2018–2020 was withdrawn on August 29, 2019.

Abstract:
This historical perspective highlights some of the pioneers, milestones, teams, and system changes that have had a major impact on management of the diabetic foot during the past 100 years. In 1934, American diabetologist Elliott P. Joslin noted that mortality from diabetic coma had fallen from 60% to 5% after the introduction of insulin, yet deaths from diabetic gangrene of the lower extremity had risen significantly. He believed that diabetic gangrene was preventable. His remedy was a team approach that included foot care, diet, exercise, prompt treatment of foot infections, and specialized surgical care. The history of the team approach to management of the diabetic foot chronicles the rise of a new health profession—podiatric medicine and surgery—and emergence of the specialty of vascular surgery. The partnership among the diabetologist, vascular surgeon, and podiatric surgeon is a natural one. The complementary skills and knowledge of each can improve limb salvage and functional outcomes. Comprehensive multidisciplinary foot-care programs have been shown to increase quality of care and reduce amputation rates by 36% to 86%. Development of distal revascularization techniques to restore pulsatile blood flow to the foot has also been a major advancement. Patients with diabetic foot complications are among the most complex and vulnerable of all patient populations. Specialized diabetic foot clinics of the 21st century should be multidisciplinary and equipped to coordinate diagnosis, off-loading, and preventive care; to perform revascularization procedures; to aggressively treat infections; and to manage medical comorbidities. Abstract:
As in other countries, suicides are a matter of great concern in The Netherlands. This article addresses suicide-prevention measures in prisons in The Netherlands. It focuses primarily on screening, monitoring, incapacitation, psychological support, and transferal to specialized institutions. In addition, it asks which practices are common, which can be improved, and the limitations of certain strategies. Relatively speaking, The Netherlands does not appear to be doing too badly in terms of preventive measures, although there is room for improvement.

Abstract:
A comprehensive understanding of abnormal psychology requires coverage of recent advances in primary prevention that are documented by empirical research. We describe a brief conceptual scheme and exemplary studies for presenting primary prevention in abnormal psychology courses and suggest resources and teaching methods for instructors. Our approach assumes that clinical and community psychology are conceptually distinct but complementary fields; the study of prevention not only connects them but provides a useful perspective for understanding abnormal psychology. Our concern with integrating primary prevention into abnormal psychology courses goes beyond articles on more specialized courses on community and preventive psychology recently published in Teaching of Psychology.

Abstract:
Background: In their interim infection prevention and control recommendations for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that healthcare facilities have a plan to identify, investigate, and trace potential COVID-19 exposures. In an academic hospital, the scale of such tracing is substantial, given that medically complex patients can have dozens of staff contacts across multiple locations during an encounter. Furthermore, the family-centered care model employed by pediatric institutions precludes visitor exclusion, further complicating tracing efforts. Despite this complexity, tracing accuracy and timeliness is of paramount importance for exposure management. To address these challenges, our institution developed a contact-tracing system that balanced expert participation with automated tracing tools. Methods: Our institution’s contact-tracing initiative includes positive patients, parents and/or visitors, and staff for the enterprise’s inpatient, procedural, and ambulatory locations at the main campus and 4 satellites. The team consists of 11 staff and is overseen by an infection preventionist. For positive patients and parents and/or visitors, potentially exposed staff are automatically identified via a report that extracts staff details for all encounters occurring during the patient’s infectious period. For positive staff, trained contact tracers call the staff member to determine whether mask and distancing practices could result in others meeting CDC exposure criteria. Any potentially exposed healthcare workers (HCWs) receive an e-mail that details exposure criteria and provides follow-up instructions. These HCWs are also entered into a secure, centralized tracking database that (1) allows infection prevention and occupational health staff to query and identify all epidemiologic links between traced patients, parents and/or visitors, and staff, and (2) initiates staff enrollment in a twice-daily symptom tracking system administered via REDCap. Potentially exposed patients and parents and/or visitors are contacted directly by a hospital representative. The contact tracing team, infection prevention staff, and occupational health staff meet daily to review positive staff cases in the last 24 hours. Results: To date, the team has traced ~1,300 patients, 15 parents and/or visitors, and 700 staff. Since the start of the pandemic, tracing and contact notification for all positive cases has been conducted within 24 hours. Through these proactive tracing efforts and other institutional infection prevention initiatives, the institution only experienced 1 staff cluster (N < 15) and <5 hospital-onset patient cases. Conclusions: Equipping a trained group of contact tracers with automated tracking tools can afford infection prevention and occupational health departments the ability to achieve and sustain timely and accurate contact tracing initiatives throughout a large-scale pandemic response.Funding: NoDisclosures: None

Abstract:
The paper presents a generalized net (GN) model of the process of terrain observation with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the prevention and rapid detection of wildfires. Using a GN, the process of monitoring a zone (through a UAV, which is further called a reconnaissance drone) and the localization of forest fires is described. For a more indepth study of the terrain, the reconnaissance drone needs to coordinate with a second UAV, called a specialized drone, so that video and sensory information is provided to the supervising fire command operational center. The proposed GN model was developed to assist in the decision-making process related to the coordination of the operation of both UAVs under dynamically changing terrain circumstances, such as those related to preventing or quickly containing wildfires. It describes the stages (transitions), logical determinants (transition predicate matrices), and directions of information flow (token characteristics) within the process of localization of fires using the pair of reconnaissance and specialized drones.

Abstract:
The article found out that the current legislation of this country, in general, has a preventive nature and is aimed at preventing any manifestations of bullying. It is noted that the Swedish government was one of the first to use a science-based approach to prevent and counter bullying, which, in particular, was based on systematic monitoring of the effectiveness of implemented programs and measures, as well as their evaluation. An analysis of the provisions of the relevant Law "On Education" was carried out, which establishes the obligation to report any manifestations of bullying, defines mandatory preventive actions for educational institutions, the procedure for responding to cases of bullying, its investigation and the application of appropriate measures.Separate powers of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and the Ministry of Labor were considered. It is indicated that to fulfill the defined functional duties, the Swedish government has established two highly specialized institutions under the Ministry of Labor – the Children's Ombudsman and the Ombudsman for Discrimination. It was found that in Sweden, bullying, which is characterized by discriminatory manifestations, is clearly separated from typical forms of bullying and is regulated by a separate law. It is noted that in Sweden, a system of control and supervision of the processes taking place in educational institutions has been formed, in particular, the body of a specialized control body – the Swedish School Inspectorate, which is a profile subject in the field of prevention and countering bullying - has been formed. It is indicated that the position of Ombudsman for children and students is being created in the structure of the Swedish School Inspectorate. An analysis of individual elements of its legal status was carried out. It is proposed to introduce a specialized anti-bullying ombudsman on the territory of Ukraine, which will objectively contribute to the necessary institutional strengthening of our country in this area.

Abstract:
More than a third of doctors in Ukraine experience this problem, but most of them do not receive specialized help in this matter. Specialists who have the highest risk of EBS: urologists (54%), neurologists (53%), rehabilitation specialists (52%), therapists (49%), ambulance doctors (48%), family doctors (48%). The main causes of EBS in physicians are a large number of bureaucratic tasks (59%), a lot of time at work (34%), digital workload (32%). With increasing age and length of service in the profession, indicators of burnout tend to increase. The most intensive EBS is observed in employees of outpatient clinics (45%) and health care institutions (49%). There are physical, behavioral, emotional, intellectual symptoms of EBS. The most disturbing symptoms are personal deformity, pessimism, negativism, social self-isolation, loss of empathy, indifference to the loved ones, the environment and patients. Such doctors become not only unfit for work, but also professionally dangerous because of the risk of harm to patients. To diagnose EBS in health professionals, the author of the article proposes to use the questionnaire “Professional (emotional) burnout”, developed on the basis of a three-factor model by K. Maslach and S. Jackson. The technique is designed to diagnose emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and professional achievement. The test contains 22 statements about the feelings and experiences associated with the performance of work activities. The obtained results can be used to develop measures to prevent loss of interest in professional activities. The most popular measures to combat EBS: sports (48%), communication with family members and close friends (43%), self-isolation (41%). EBS is easier to prevent than to treat, so special attention is paid to prevention methods. To reduce the risks of EBS, it is necessary to increase psychological competence, give way to negative emotions, expand the range of interests, quickly resolve conflicts, do not delay in obtaining specialized help, do not look for negativity around you. The article also offers twelve “rituals” of emotional hygiene, which are recommended to be performed regularly.

Abstract:
Aim. To optimize a proper diagnosis of thromboses associated with high risk of embolism and pulmonary embolism prevention in patients with neoplasms. Methods. Ultrasonography of veins of lower extremities, iliac veins and the distal part of inferior vena cava was performed in patients with and without neoplasms in a prospective study to detect thromboses associated with high risk of embolism and thrombophlebitis. Ultrasonography was performed once in control group subjects, and before and during specialized antineoplastic treatment (surgical, chemotherapy, radiotherapy) in patients of the main group, the results were compared. A detection of a new thrombus in previously intact venous segment of inferior vena cava system was assessed as a high risk for pulmonary embolism. Results. Thromboses associated with high risk of embolism and thrombophlebitis were found in 6 patients of control group, in 5 patients of the main group before and in 27 patients of the main group while at specialized antineoplastic treatment. Specific measures for pulmonary embolism prevention were taken immediately in all of the cases according to ultrasonography results after the detection of thromboses associated with high risk of embolism. No fatal cases of pulmonary embolism were registered both in main (before and while at treatment) and control groups. Conclusion. Ultrasonography of veins of lower extremities, iliac veins and the distal part of inferior vena cava in patients with neoplasms before the start of specialized antineoplastic treatment allows to optimize the choice of prevention measures for pulmonary embolism and thus significantly decreases mortality from pulmonary embolism.
