Abstract:
ABSTRACT Auditors often rely on the assistance of specialists from such fields as tax, information technology, valuation, and forensic accounting. Integration of the work of specialists with the work of audit team members is a challenge for both groups. This interview-based study of 34 practitioners from six accounting firms, including 12 auditors (partners and managers) and 22 specialists (tax, IT, valuation, forensic) examines auditors' and specialists' views about the current state of specialist use on audits. The regulatory environment creates pressure for financial statement auditors to use specialists on audits; however, financial statement auditors often seek to limit specialist involvement. Both auditors and specialists are dissatisfied with the current situation, but for different reasons. Auditors are concerned about budget overruns, delays, and harm to client relationships by (overly) meticulous specialists. Specialists are concerned about auditors limiting the scope of specialist involvement, and its effect on audit quality. JEL Classifications: M4; M40; M42.

Abstract:
As rural Queenslanders are isolated geographically due to dispersed populationpatterns, they are often required to travel long distances to access services, especiallyservices of a specialist nature. The distress of this relocation for treatment is particularlyintensified for patients with leukaemia and associated haematological disorders andtheir carers, as they must often relocate for long periods of time and face invasive anddemanding treatments away from the comfort of their own homes. Because suchtreatments are now highly technical and specialised, even patients from moreurbanised areas are also required to relocate for prolonged specialist treatment notavailable locally. Consequently, for many rural and urban patients with leukaemia, relocation for specialist treatment is a major concern. This discussion presents findings from recent research on a Queensland Governmentinitiative, the Patient Transit Assistance Scheme, designed to address this concern. These findings indicate a high level of hardship for these patients and their familieswho must travel long distances, often relocate for long periods, and endure additionalfinancial burdens at a time when a majority are dependent on government assistance.

Abstract:
The effective application of a Decision Tree (DT) process is beset with many difficult and technical decisions about the choice of algorithms, parameters, evaluation, etc. Therefore, we propose assistance by using ontologies for addressing the above-mentioned challenges that face the non-specialist DT miner (person). Ontologies have been used in various research areas such as computer science, including data mining tools. In this paper, we propose the realisation of a domain ontology for DT OntoDTA to empower the non-specialist DT miner throughout the key phases of the DT process. OntoDTA ontology contains the knowledge of DT and provides a common terminology that can be shared and processed by DT miners.

Abstract:
The article examines the complex problems of the participation of a specialist in the production of procedural actions during the preliminary investigation. Conclusions are drawn about the need for a clear distinction between the functions of a specialist and an expert in the process of involving them in investigative actions, about the independence of a specialist in criminal proceedings. The authors also consider it necessary to classify such participants in the criminal process as a teacher and a psychologist as specialists. It is noted that the criminal procedure legislation does not require a detailed differentiation of the functions of a specialist, since, depending on the type of investigative action, the assistance of a specialist can be of a diverse nature. In various investigative actions and at their various stages, it can be of a consulting nature or the nature of performing physical actions that require special knowledge, skills and abilities.

Abstract:
PANDA, the Pumper Apparatus Novice Design Assistant, is a case-based design system developed to assist firefighters who wish to design their pumper engines. In contrast to other such systems, PANDA addresses the unique needs of a novice, non-specialist who performs design in a highly specialized domain, where the design is decomposable into elements which each fulfill their own identifiable function. In PANDA we study how to create an interactive case-based design assistant that can understand the needs and desires of a non-specialist designer and can translate them into formal specifications; that can provide assistance by using case-based design methodologies; that can deal with non-functional design criteria such as aesthetics and traditional practices; and that can guide the novice designer by discussing alternatives, tradeoffs, and adaptations. Our prototypical system verifies our methodological approach to supporting novice design activities.

Abstract:
The article suggests that there are two different levels of skills and opportunities for professional interaction between a helping specialist and subjects of the educational process. The first level of skills involves ensuring safe interaction through the manifestation of tolerant attitudes and behaviour through the ethical regulation of activities within a professional role. The second level involves the emotional, personal inclusion of a specialist in professional interaction through the manifestation of special personal qualities (mercy, empathy, empathy), which provides a healing effect through deep personal interaction. Weanalyse Russian socio-cultural and ideological characteristics of help, based on mercy and empathy. European and Russian ideas about the content of the training of specialists in helping professions, going back to the peculiarities of the religious beliefs of three Christian denominations, which define the meaning of assistance both in the east and in the west, are compared. It is shown that the Russian experience of assistance focuses on the internal motives of help and sacrificial love, which provides a deep personal level of professional interaction. The conclusion is made about the need for a scientific study of traditional Russian experience in order to create programmes for developing future helpers with personal readiness education for effective professional interaction at the second level.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to identify the reasons stated by ACT primary school teachers for referral of students for specialist assistance, and the type of specialist assistance given to referred students. The study also compared student referrals in Resource Teacher and Non-Resource Teacher Schools, and examined what patterns were reflected in this sample of primary school student referrals. This study had two sections; an examination of: 1) primary school student referrals and 2) primary school teacher attitudes towards learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties children. The identification of courses undertaken by teachers which were helpful in teaching students with learning and behavioural difficulties were also compared to teacher attitudes. These results were compared with those of Bourke (1985), a previous study of ACT teacher attitudes towards learning difficulties students. The study confirmed findings within the literature review that classroom teachers were the major source of student referrals for specialist services and that two important student variables impacted upon referral. The student variables, student gender and behaviour were found to have a significant effect upon referral. Boys were referred more often in both samples of schools with girls more likely to be referred in Resource Teacher Schools. Referred students were more likely to have no reported behaviour problems in Resource Teacher Schools. There were differences in the patterns of referral in Resource and Non-Resource Teacher Schools, ie service response to referral, parents' role and attitudes of teachers.

Abstract:

The oral flora is one of the most ecologically diverse microbial populiations known to man. It has been proved that any dental intervention: dental preparation, professional oral hygiene, extraction of teeth, regular prophylactic examination of patient‘s mouth is related with a possible spread of infection. Therefore, one of the most important tasks for the dental care professionals is to prevent the spread of infection and create safe environment for a patient, the dentist himself and other dental staff The aim of the present study is to identify and evaluate the attitudes of Lithuanian dental health care professionals towards infection control and carried out infection control procedures, and to determine vaccination frequency against hepatitis B among dental health care professionals. The study highlighteningt the dental health care professionals‘ attitude towards infection control and infection control procedures as well as incompliance of infection control procedures with the valid normative documentation was conducted at the Institute of Odontology, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University in 2008-2010. Edwards, Evonne. "A challenge to teacher professionalism : the training and deployment of Specialist Teacher Assistants in the North West of England." Thesis, Liverpool John Moores University, 2002. http://researchonline.ljmu.ac.uk/4974/.

Full text
Abstract:
Assistants have been working in schools for many years. There are numerous types of assistants at the moment, such as: school caretakers, cleaners, cooks, dinner ladies, classroom assistants (including nursery nurses) and school secretaries. They relieve teaching staff from non-professional or time-consuming tasks, which could be carried out by a responsible adult, rather than a qualified teacher. The ST A initiative introduced a different set of tasks for classroom assistants. These placed a direct emphasis on assistants "contributing to teaching and learning of basic skills" (DfE 1993: par. 33). STAs were trained to work in the classroom supporting children with mathematics and English activities as opposed to carrying out non-teaching tasks such as: photocopying, making booklets or preparing resources for lessons, previously expected of assistants. The ST A scheme was the first initiative to acknowledge explicitly that assistants could contribute to teaching; a professional duty expected of a teacher. The National Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) construed this as a challenge to teachers' professionalism; but the STA initiative has not created a new challenge. The vision that assistants can contribute to teaching has been known for some time. The Plowden Report (CACE 1967) first discussed the prospect of introducing teacher aides almost thirty years ago, but at that time it was not realised. Since then to the present day, assistants have seen their deployment change through the plethora of educational policy and the demands they have placed on teachers in their classrooms. This has led teachers to use the support they receive of assistants in different ways to maintain and raise standards in education. Assistants' roles, in recent years, have vi changed and they are likely to continue to change, as announcements from the government indicate (DfEE 1998). However, a concern regarding the STA scheme is that a minority of STAs' roles went much further than what might be expected. They were used as surrogate teachers with qualified teacher responsibilities.

Abstract:
The following thesis deals with the various ways of taking care of minors in difficulties , from the origins of social welfare in france to the recent emergence of new structures qualified as alternative. In spite of the constant evolution of traditional structures and of their means , their failures are innumerable. Social workers are trying to prevent their going adrift. Small experimental educational units have been created throughout the country and are now compelling recognition in the face of medico-educational institutions which are out of date. It is about time we put an end to the considerable waste which goes with the traditional system and turned towards those new " living units " which may be equally called : - intermediate structure. -unofficial structures. DEBE', ANNA. "MAESTRI "SPECIALI" ALLA SCUOLA DI PADRE GEMELLI. LA FORMAZIONE DEGLI INSEGNANTI PER FANCIULLI ANORMALI ALL'UNIVERSITA' CATTOLICA (1926-1978)." Doctoral thesis, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10280/2994.

Abstract:
The “School for the special aids and assistants for disabled children”, opened in 1926 at the Catholic University of Milan by father Agostino Gemelli, was one of the very first in Italy to set up about disabled children teacher training. This School gives evidence of Gemelli’s work in the special education area and also represents the Italian path toward scholastic inclusion for disabled persons. The interest of Gemelli, one of the most famous psychologists in the XX Century Italian framework, towards disability reflects how the contemporary Catholic world cared about interventions for the weakest not only driven by a charity feeling but based on scientific studies. Moreover, the study highlights how teacher training has changed from the Twenties to the Seventies of the last Century, following the different way of looking at disabled children, from isolation in special schools to inclusion in common classes. The thesis contributes to improve Italian studies in the field of the history of special education, a subject that has, for the most part, to be written. The research is carried out through archival investigations with the purpose of shedding light on teachers, users, materials and textbooks of the School, since its origin until the Seventies.

Abstract:
The present report, elaborated as part of the Master's Course in Nursing with Specialization in Medical-Surgical Nursing in the area of Nursing for People in Critical Situation, from the Institute of Health Sciences - Porto, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, reflects the path taken during the internship in two contexts: urgent care and extra-hospital emergency, from November 2020 to February2021. This document objective is to describe the experiences, difficulties and interventions implemented based on the skills of a specialist nurse in medical surgical nursing. This report was written following a descriptive, analytical and reflective methodology directed to practice. The approach to patients in critical condition in intensive care enriched me as a future specialist nurse, contributing to the development of my skills. Humanization, being transversal to different contexts, emerged as a constant challenge in daily and professional nursing practice, therefore a literature review has been performed on the topic. A more humane perspective needs to be considered for everyone involved in the health care process, from the sick person to the health professional. There are several challenging areas that require change in order to achieve a more humane process, like: waiting time management; overcrowding services and their organization; health care professionals valorization. An early approach to this theme in schools of higher education could promote these changes and allow for better care. My path allowed me to acquire technical and scientific skills as well as humane and relational skills through moments of reflection. This report outlines the objectives that I set out to achieve and what I actually achieved during my formative journey and that presented significant importance.T he fact that I focused on the humanization process became one of the key points of my journey, perceiving the role of the specialist nurse in medical-surgical nursing to improve the care provided to people in critical situations.

Abstract:
The appearance of Dr Vesco’s translation and study of Hokusai’s Ryakuga haya oshie, together with a full reproduction of the original book, is a matter of great excitement in the field of Japanese Studies. Hokusai has been known in Europe and North America for some 150 years. In his own country, he came to public attention about 1800, with youthful work produced under the name of Shunrô. He lived to the advanced age of 88, and when he died in 1849, he was one of the best-known artists in Japan. He was soon to be the best-known Japanese artist in the West, a status that he probably still holds. ‘Under the Great Wave off Kanagawa’ – often referred to simply as ‘Hokusai’s Great Wave’ (from the Thirty-six View of Mt Fuji) – is said to be the most immediately-recognisable piece of graphic design worldwide. Hokusai was a townsman living in a socially stratified society. He was not a member of the elite, though other famous artists were. He did neither depict elite topics, nor work for elite clients. Rather, Hokusai associated with the ‘Floating World’ (ukiyo) that is Edo’s leisure-time distractions. He also made views of his city, its surroundings, and the wider Japanese countryside, but he was not a great traveller, other than in his mind. Rather unrecognised is what Dr Vesco now brings to our attention. Hokusai saw his role as promoting the practice of art. Of course, he had his students, but as we see here, Hokusai also published out-reach volumes, aimed at introducing the joys of picture-making to amateurs who were not being formally instructed. The lessons were easy to follow, and also fun, as he reduced people animals and plants to basic shapes and formulae. Starting with the auspicious subject of Tang lions (kara shishi), Hokusai leads us through a range of topics, down to the demotic, such as clothes washing. Readers today will certainly find a smile crossing their face as they look through the pictures. Thanks to Dr Vesco’s careful translations, we can also understand the advice and commentaries supplied in Hokusai’s accompanying texts. An additional feature of Dr Vesco’s work will be of assistance to more specialist readers, as she has transcribed the original Japanese. This was no simple task, as it is written in abbreviated calligraphy (kuzushiji). At all levels, readers, art enthusiasts and those who love to create pictures will now have access to Hokusai’s most important study aid. We can delve into it, copy from, and chuckle at, just as people did when the volumes first appeared. Western readers might ponder something else: Ryakuga haya oshie appeared in 1812, as European countries were tearing themselves apart.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper introduces deep induction, and shows that it is the notion of induction most appropriate to nested types and other data types defined over, or mutually recursively with, (other) such types. Standard induction rules induct over only the top-level structure of data, leaving any data internal to the top-level structure untouched. By contrast, deep induction rules induct over all of the structured data present. We give a grammar generating a robust class of nested types (and thus ADTs), and develop a fundamental theory of deep induction for them using their recently defined semantics as fixed points of accessible functors on locally presentable categories. We then use our theory to derive deep induction rules for some common ADTs and nested types, and show how these rules specialize to give the standard structural induction rules for these types. We also show how deep induction specializes to solve the long-standing problem of deriving principled and practically useful structural induction rules for bushes and other truly nested types. Overall, deep induction opens the way to making induction principles appropriate to richly structured data types available in programming languages and proof assistants. Agda implementations of our development and examples, including two extended case studies, are available.

Simply attending and graduating from high school is no longer a guarantee of employment. Students with disabilities need to attend college like their nondisabled peers in order to secure a good-paying job, but in order to do this, they must have special support systems in place. Fifteen colleges in the United States offer such assistance to these students. Most programs go beyond simply tutoring and include a learning specialist to assist the students with their learning, which can be anything from working on executive functioning skills to note-taking, to test-taking strategies, to being able to regulate one's emotions. An explanation of each program is included in this chapter.

Abstract:
Acute kidney injury is a common occurrence in the intensive care unit and one that is associated with a high morbidity and mortality. One role for palliative care is to guide medical decision-making regarding management of patients with acute kidney injury. This role can be fulfilled as part of primary palliative care by the intensive care unit and nephrology teams or by specialist palliative care clinicians if there is a need for assistance with conflict resolution. In such discussions, it is important to understand the patient’s prognosis and values, preferences, and goals to inform the shared decision-making discussion about whether to initiate or continue renal replacement therapy. This chapter reviews the literature and guideline recommendations on a palliative care approach to managing critically ill patients with acute kidney injury.

Abstract:
Extracorporeal circuits are increasingly used to support critically ill patients with severe cardiac and/or respiratory failure. They may be used as a bridge to recovery, transplantation, decision for further intervention, or, in a very few patients with cardiac failure, as destination therapy. Although echocardiography for extracorporeal support is highly specialist, certain key principles apply. First, extracorporeal support is not a treatment per se, but rather a supportive therapy whilst awaiting resolution of the underlying pathological process. Thus echocardiography has a vital role in excluding any potentially treatable underlying cause for cardiorespiratory failure. Second, echocardiography is required to determine the requirement for right and/or left ventricular support, the level of support required, and assessing the ability of the right and left ventricles to support the extracorporeal circuit. This demands that the practitioner understands the different types of circuit, and the load that each will place on the heart. Third, echocardiography is mandatory to exclude cardiovascular contraindications to initiation of support. Echocardiography subsequently has a vital role in its successful implementation, including confirming/guiding correct cannula placement, ensuring the goals of support are met, detecting complications, and assessing tolerance to assistance. Finally, in patients requiring extracorporeal cardiac support, various echocardiographic parameters have been proposed to be used in conjunction with clinical and haemodynamic assessment in order to attempt to predict those patients who can be successfully weaned.

Abstract:
Assistance in dying, though highly controversial, is requested of an increasing number of palliative clinicians. This necessitates an exploration of the current nomenclature, history, and ethical and legal foundations of the topic, followed by an evaluation of the characteristics of those who request physician assisted dying (PAD), suggestions for responding to requests, and recommended alternatives. As of 2017, medical aid in dying is legal in six states and the District of Columbia, jurisdictions in which 16.4% of the United States population live. In 2018, 27 states are considering legalization. Furthermore, assisted dying and euthanasia are legal in five countries and assisted dying without euthanasia is legal in three. The goal of this chapter is to ensure palliative specialists are prepared to handle requests for physician assistance in dying.

This chapter introduces one of Sayyed Ahmad Yazdi's clients, a retired officer in the police force of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Brigadier General ʻAli Shirazi had overseen arrests of occult specialists like rammals and fortune-tellers on numerous occasions during his career. He was a deeply pious man and cognizant of the dangers of involving oneself with the occult. However, Shirazi himself had sought the assistance of occult specialists to tackle seemingly intractable problems, including one criminal case that he had solved with the help of an accused charlatan whose arrest he had ordered himself. The chapter considers the four ingredients to Shirazi's commitment to virtuous caution and highlights his case as evidence of tensions that exist between state governmental rationality on the one hand, and Islamic ethicolegal reasoning on the other.

The adaptive nature of parent-child relationships in the structure of children with disabilities families depends on the level of parents’ psychological readiness to a social readaptation. Organization specifics of the psycho-correctional assistance is determined by the effectiveness of “child-parent-specialist” interaction system to achieve a social integration by updating family’s resource potential.

Abstract:
Abstract Due to the health emergency currently affecting the planet, it has been impossible for engineering specialists to carry out direct inspections of the land. During this time, it has been necessary to develop techniques and procedures that allow engineers to obtain information from the land remotely. Here, they are supported by the technology that allows them to record images remotely via drones and communicate so they can perform inspections by auxiliary field personnel, directed at a distance by specialists. To do this, a preliminary flight plan is defined, based on the experience and knowledge of the terrain by the specialist and the visual of the drone is transmitted via the Internet from a PC in the field. Later, which images to record and the sites that require more detail or a direct inspection by the field assistant are defined. Finally, the field assistant transmits the images of the inspection. In this way, the specialist’s training and experience, the operational ease of the drone, and the skill of the field staff are taken advantage of. This article details the procedure for remote inspection, and ways in which it can even be extended to corridor recognition tasks to define the layout of rights of way.
