Abstract:
While this study is partly theoretical it includes an exploratory case study in which theoretical insights are applied. In the theoretical part of this study, criteria for a successful poverty alleviation project were developed, guided by sustainability theory and complexity theory. It was proposed that researchers could assess existing projects according to these criteria to show where they were successful and where they could improve. The second part of this research consists of a case study, where an actual poverty alleviation project (The Nomzamo Special Care Centre, Peddie, Eastern Cape) was assessed according to the criteria developed in the first part. For this exploratory case study a non-random sample of 9 participants was drawn from the Nomzamo Special Care Centre and other stakeholders in the Ngqushwa Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape. Data was collected using questionnaires, observation and interviews. The results obtained from analysis indicate that project members particularly experience challenges pertaining to financial resources, infrastructure and maintenance. It is recommended that project members receive assistance from the government departments in order for the project to remain sustainable.

Abstract:
A total of 60 school psychologists and educational diagnosticians across Texas completed a survey to identify the instruments used to screen and diagnose learning disabled (LD) students, and to identify the criteria on which the final diagnosis and placement of LD or non-LD is made. The results of this survey indicate that consistent methods and criteria are not being used for identifying children as LD within the state. Many of the instruments currently used may not be technically adequate for use with a LD population. Implications of the use of inconsistent criteria, inadequate screening and assessment measures are discussed.

Abstract:
The underlying aim of this research is to gain a better knowledge of the relationship between the selection criteria and academic performance of the students of architecture; and the specific aim is to evaluate and improve the methods of student selection in Iranian schools of architecture. The thesis consists of three parts. The first part (Chapters 1 to 3) prepares the theoretical ground for the study. Chapter 1 introduces the general issues of student selection, and Chapter 2 presents a review of the related studies. To supplement the review, a survey was conducted to learn about the present state of affairs in a number of university schools of architecture. Describing this survey, Chapter Three reports differing views on the selection criteria and procedures, and the lack of objective knowledge on this subject. The second part (Chapters 4 to 6) is a close examination of two different student selection methods in Iran by means of a qualitative and a quantitative survey. Chapter Four describes the educational practices in Iran which form the background to the case studies. Chapter Five is a quantitative study on the relationship between selection criteria and the subsequent academic performance of the selected students. The possibility of significant non-academic differences between groups of students who were selected through two different methods, and also the predictive ability of some non-academic variables, are studied in a qualitative survey in Chapter Six. In the third part (Chapter 7) various findings of the previous chapters are brought together. It is concluded that the choice between alternative selection methods is more a matter of compromise than perfection. However, the research findings call into question some of the assumptions of the currently applied selection methods. For instance, little evidence was found to support the customary application of an identical entrance examination for all schools of architecture. Moreover, evidence was found for the noticeable relationship between the academic performance of the students and some non-academic characteristics which the rigid academic selection criteria tend to overlook. Finally, some recommendations are proposed for the improvement of selection procedures for the study of architecture in Iran.

Abstract:
The entrance space of a hospital has formed an effective period of hospital life since it has reflected the scope and the image of the entire facility. Therefore it has directly influenced by the new formation of healthcare facilities on preserving and growing role of the community health instead of threatening the illnesses. Since entrance space is apart from the other spaces in the facility that has shaped by the restrictive nature of the medical technology, the space most efficiently implement these new objectives more than any space of the entire facility. However, entrance spaces of hospitals in Turkey are still bothered with many insufficiencies and displayed a problematic panorama. Therefore, this thesis has obtained the problems of main entrance space, and has analyzed it with a consistent form of criteria to gather new solution proposals. In order to serve for this purpose, the present Turkish health care environment has explored and entrance space has been analyzed around new emerging concepts that reflect the changing ideals of the community. To present the problems and solution proposals about this specific place sufficiently, they are also evaluated through design and performance criteria. The essence of coping with the stress created by the environment with healing potential is emphasized. As a result, this thesis is expected to influence further researches, new hospital main entrance space designs as well as the renovation of older ones.

Abstract:
Aim: The aim of this thesis was to validate the 2010 American College of Rheumatology/European League Against Rheumatism classification criteria for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), in particular with respect to its construct validity and the role of autoantibodies within the criteria. Methods: This thesis used data from the Norfolk Arthritis Register, a longitudinal inception cohort of adults (16 years and over) with inflammatory polyarthritis (IP), defined as at least 2 swollen joint for at least 4 weeks. The 2010 criteria were used to define RA, firstly in a re-estimation of the incidence rates (IR) with comparisons made to incidence defined by the previous criteria set; and secondly in a study comparing mortality rates in patients with RA to those of the general population, and how these rates changed over time. Analyses were performed testing the ability of the 2010 criteria to identify those patients with IP at increased risk of mortality, disability, disease severity and radiographic damage. The levels and number of autoantibodies present were investigated as predictors of mortality in patients with IP. The association between anti-carbamylated protein (anti-CarP) antibodies and long term disease outcomes were investigated. Results: The incidence of RA was 40 per 100 000 population; baseline IRs were similar to the cumulative IRs using the previous criteria set over 5 years. Patients who were seronegative were less likely to be classified as RA by the 2010 criteria. Mortality rates in patients with RA were higher compared to the general population (standardised mortality ratio 1.16, 95 percent confidence interval (CI) 1.04-1.29) and declined over the study period at the same rate as the general population. Patients with IP who fulfilled the 2010 criteria had increased risk of early death (hazard ratio (HR) 1.35, 95 percent CI 1.13-1.64), as well as increased levels of disability (beta 0.38, 95 percent CI 0.33-0.43), disease severity (beta 1.63, 95 percent CI 1.54-1.73) and radiographic damage (beta 0.33, 95 percent CI 0.20-0.47) throughout follow up. Patients with two autoantibodies had an increased risk of early death (HR 1.35, 95 percent CI 1.09-1.68), but there was no association with early death and the levels of these antibodies. Anti-CarP antibody positivity was independently associated with worse disability (beta 0.12, 95 percent CI 0.02-0.21) and disease severity (beta 0.23, 95 percent CI 0.07-0.39) throughout follow up. Conclusions: The 2010 ACR/EULAR classification criteria for RA identify patients with IP early in their disease course and recognise those at increased risk of mortality and poor outcomes. The 2010 criteria may miss a subgroup of seronegative patients who nevertheless have a poor prognosis. Novel autoantibodies may be useful to identify this subgroup.

Abstract:
Methods and models of optimization of solutions under many criteria are considered, which are conditioned by modern tasks to improve the operation of supply chains and logistics systems. Attention is paid to their specifics in relation to the tasks of organizing transport supply support. The anomalous phenomena of "blindness" to the indicators of individual particular criteria and the phenomena of "blocking" the choice of alternatives when optimizing such systems are analyzed. Special modifications of traditional selection criteria for optimization are presented, allowing to eliminate these phenomena in order to more effectively adapt the selected best solution to the preferences of the decision-maker. The analysis of filtering possibilities of the initially specified alternatives is given so that optimization procedures can be implemented in real time. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation. For students of institutions of higher education. It can be useful for graduate students, logisticians and entrepreneurs who want to organize their business more efficiently.

Abstract:
Because mode locking of a synchronously pumped dye laser is operated by modulating the gain, if we want to understand clearly the characteristics of the laser system, we must start from the gain medium and study the relationship of the gain medium and the operating characteristics of the laser system in optimum output conditions. As far as we know, a satisfactory discussion about this important problem for the synchronously pumped dye laser has not been given. Nor has the operating range for the gain at optimum output been obtained. This is because the circumstances of the laser system at threshold have not been studied in detail; thus the output criteria for the synchronously pumped dye laser cannot be given. The importance of this work has been realized,1–3 and some special values for determined parameters have been calculated by computer, but the expression for the gain range cannot be given. Only some special values can be evaluated.

Abstract:
To be classified and approved by a classification society, all offshore structures shall be submitted and analyzed according to standard rules. The stability criteria are based on the IMO–MODU (International Maritime Organization–Mobile Offshore Drilling Units) Code which has reference to almost all types of floating units such as surface, column-stabilized and self elevating, but problems were found when dealing with monocolumn concept due to differences between this concept and those presented by the rules. The monocolumn studied is a floating production system (FPS) platform designed to handle steel catenary risers (SCR) in a depth of 1800 m in Brazilian oil fields. In this project, special concern was given to sea keeping behavior, constructability and security. This paper discusses the last item, focusing on subdivision and stability analysis. In order to overcome difficulties in finding the appropriate criteria, the work was developed using a special criteria, discussed with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and PETROBRAS, which could be implanted in future classifications for this type of hull.

Abstract:
The purpose of document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code 22 mathematics intervention meta-analyses focused on participants with or at-risk of disabilities. The author drafted this coding protocol based on the meta-analysis quality indicators recommended by Talbott et al. (2018, pp. 248–249); specifically, the author considered the variables presented in Table 1 of Talbott et al. and supplemented the information so that the variables and definitions were specific to the purpose of this systematic review. We coded each meta-analysis for 53 variables across eight categories, including: Quality of Clear Research Questions, Quality of Eligibility Criteria, Quality of Search Procedures, Quality of Screening Criteria, Quality of Coding Procedures, Quality of Research Participants and Contexts, Quality of Data Analysis Plan, and Quality of Reporting Results. The mean interrater reliability across all codes using this protocol was 87.8% (range across categories = 74% –100%).

Abstract:
The purpose of document is to provide readers with the coding protocol that authors used to code nine group and single case design intervention studies focused on proportional reasoning interventions for students (grades 5-9) with learning disabilities (LD) or mathematics difficulty (MD). The studies yielded intervention effects ranging from g = −0.10 to 1.87 and from Tau-U = 0.88 to 1.00. We coded all of the studies for variables in the following categories: study information, intervention features, dependent measures, participant demographics, LD and MD criteria and definitions, instructional content, study results, and quality indicators for group and single case design. The study quality indicator coding portion of this coding protocol was adapted from Gersten et al. (2005) and Horner et al. (2005). This code book contains variable names, code options, and code definitions. The mean interrater reliability across all codes using this protocol was 91% (range across categories = 82%–96%). The publication associated with this coding protocol is Nelson et al. (2020).

Abstract:
OVE has carried out two Fund for Special Operations (FSO) evaluations. The first, "Oversight Note on the Performance Criteria for Allocating Concessional Resources" (RE-279), was presented to the Board of Executive Directors in 2003 and provided a preliminary review of the new performance-related allocation criteria introduced in 2002. In October 2010 OVE presented the "Evaluation of the Fund for Special Operations during the Eighth Replenishment (1994-2010) - Part I" (RE-376), in anticipation of the FSO replenishment through IDB-9. This document focused primarily on the implications of the changing methodologies for allocating FSO resources. The objective of this evaluation is to complete the assessment of the performance of IDB's FSO loan program during the period of the Eighth Replenishment (1994-2010), focusing as stated in RE-376 on financing and results.

Abstract:
This special report reviews current scientific literature to identify the most commonly cited metrics used to describe the macrohabitat criteria important for Chiroptera presence in the United States. The review evaluates 69 scientific articles from 1994 to 2018. The most commonly cited metrics were divided into four main categories: tree-species-level metrics, landscape-level metrics, distance metrics, and topographic and atmospheric metrics. Of all metrics found, the top six most common metrics noted across all articles were percent canopy cover, diameter at breast height (DBH), forest type, distance to water, distance to roads or other urban features, and tree density. In addition, 27 of the 47 (57%) bat species located within the United States were represented. These metrics provide important insight into the regional or national species-level distribution and assist with modeling the relationship between species distribution and habitat change.

Abstract:
This special report provides a selection process for choosing priority species using the specific focus of high-elevation, forested habitats in the North Atlantic to demonstrate the process. This process includes criteria for choosing invasive species to incorporate into models, given the predicted spread of invasive plant species because of climate change. Discussed in this report are the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Threatened and Endangered Species Team portal, the US Fish and Wildlife Service’s Information for Planning and Consultation Portal, the nonprofit organization Partners in Flight’s watch list, the US Geological Survey’s Biodiversity Information Serving Our Nation model, and NatureServe’s interagency effort Landfire. The data linked this montane habitat with a species of conservation concern, Cartharus bicknelli and the endangered squirrel Glaucomys sabrinus as target species and with Elaeagnus umbellate, Robinia pseudoacacia, Rhamnus cathartica, and Acer planoides as invasive species. Incorporating these links into the climate change framework developed by Davis et al. (2018) will create predictive models for the impacts of climate change on TER-S, which will affect land management decisions in the region.

Abstract:
Welding onto in-service pipelines and piping systems allows cost-effective installation of branchconnections (hot taps) and repair sleeves. Beyond the normal in-service welding concerns ofburnthrough and hydrogen cracking, there are often additional concerns when welding ontopipelines and piping systems in chemical service. For example, some products can undergochemical changes when exposed to the heat from an in-service weld. In spite of these concerns, some companies routinely weld on lines in chemical and other potentially hazardous service, although limitations and special precautions are often specified. Examples include wallthickness limitations below which in-service welding is not permitted and the use of weldingprocedures that limit heat input. The objective of this project was to review the concerns forwelding on in-service pipelines in chemical service, the techniques that have been used in thepast to address these concerns, and to develop criteria that will allow this type of welding to becarried out safely. Criteria for in-service welding were developed for a wide range of chemicals that were identified as being of interest. The format for these criteria is similar to material safety data sheets (MSDSs). Many of the potential concerns that were identified can be controlled by limiting the inside surface temperature. Factors that affect inside surface temperature include: (1) pipe wall thickness, (2) the introduction of heat into the pipe wall by the welding process, and (3) the removal of heat by the contents. For many of the concerns that were identified, if protection from burnthrough using the inside surface temperature approach is practiced, protection from these other concerns is also accomplished. The ability to accurately control heat input levels is an important aspect of being able to weld safely onto in-service pipelines, particularly when inside surface temperature needs to be limited. Methods for controlling heat input levels in the field were reviewed and detailed guidance was developed. The benefits of using small-diameter electrodes (lower current levels), which allows the attachment of a hot tap fittings at relatively low heat input levels, were identified. Techniques to address other concerns that are not inside surface temperature related were also identified.

Abstract:
Background: Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) is advocated globally as a way of improving patient flow in hospital by bringing forward the time of patient discharge. Problem: Complexities regarding the heterogeneity of patient conditions have inhibited development of CLD in acute medicine. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was operational for CLD although this had not been introduced in practice within acute medicine. Approach: Prospective observation of the CLD procedure in practice through testing which included; staff involvement, development of supporting tools, interrogation of patient clinical criteria and staff feedback. Design, data collection and analysis were undertaken using the Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) to reveal contradictions to the SOP in acute medicine. Outcomes: Common and special cause contradictions to the SOP were revealed namely; delay in writing discharge medications / GP letters and nurses being unable to routinely participate in the patient clinical reviews. Staff were engaged with usual discharge practices, which effectively isolated them from agreed activities to support CLD. Conclusion: activities within the SOP need to be routinely and systematically supported in order for the CLD SOP to be successfully implemented in acute medicine. Oversight and continuity from acute medicine consultant team is also essential.

Abstract:
This approach paper presents the framework for the evaluation of IDB's regional operations between 2000 and 2011. The objective of the evaluation is to assess the IDB's role in identifying and contributing to the coordinated solution of transnational challenges. In this context, the evaluation will pay special attention to the role of the Regional Public Goods (RPG) Initiative. Since this evaluation comes at a time when the IDB is increasing its financial involvement in regional and global integration, it will focus on distilling lessons from the strategic and operational experience of the IDB. In areas where this experience is scant, the evaluation will be complemented by an analysis of activities of other multilateral development banks. The evaluation will use the standard OECD-DAC criteria of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability. The desk review analysis of IDB's involvement with RPG suggests that issues of both internal organization and beneficiary demand are recurrent in regional projects. Therefore, the evaluation will consider the additional ad hoc evaluative criterion of "incentives." In addressing sustainability, the evaluation will pay special attention to the role of the IDB in supporting long-term institution building for regional cooperation.
