Abstract:
I have previously compared the philosophy of Herman Dooyeweerd (1894- 1977) with the ideas of Franz von Baader (1765-1841).1 It is clear that Dooyeweerd obtained at least an indirect knowledge of Baader’s philosophy through the writings of Abraham Kuyper (1837-1920). Kuyper had extensive knowledge of Baader, and he refers to Baader with approval. A review of Dooyeweerd’s personal library2 has now confirmed that he also obtained knowledge of key ideas of Baader’s philosophy through the writings of the Austrian philosopher, sociologist and economist Othmar Spann (1878-1950).

Abstract:
It is a daunting task to recover a usable Mumford from his vast body of writing, myriad ideas and public career over a span of seventy years. These four books make a substantial contribution to that end. Their shared virtues are clarity and thoughtfulness supported by firm scholarship. Useful perspectives are provided on modernization, social ecology, community planning and the human condition. Novak assembles and illuminates a historically important body of letters. Spann narrates an interplay of strong intellects with politics of social change in the 1920s and 1930s. Luccarelli and Wojtowicz cut an impressive swath through the entire scope of Mumford's thought and experience in the contexts of regionalism and architectural criticism. While all the books draw attention to men and women often forgotten but worth knowing about, Mumford is conspicuous for brilliance and charisma in the battle to reconcile urban growth with healthy environments and communities. His arsenal of values, shared by many supporters past and present, supplied articulate standards for change.

Abstract:
Co-dependence is a concept related to emotional and behavioral difficulties of rela-tives of individuals addicted to psychoactive substances; however, it involves other contexts not directly associated to dependency. Thirtyadolescents, children of depen-dent parents, from a city of São Paulo, participated in the study. This study used the Spann-Fischer and EMBU scales, as well as Pearson’s correlation coefficient. From the results, a significant correlation was found between the co-dependence degree and the types of parental attachment, especially overprotection and rejection. This leads to the comprehension of co-dependence as a multivariate phenomenon that may also be associated with the type of attachment established with parents or caregivers.

Abstract:
The article presents the research of the emotion regulation in women standing in relationships with addicted partners. It also provides additional results of adaptation of the “Spann–Fischer Codependency Scale” (SF CDS). The sample of the study consisted of women living together with addicted individuals (N=154) aged from 24 to 60 years (M=46,18, SD=8,72). SF CDS showed high reliability indicators. Spenn–Fisher's theoretical model of codependency has been empirically validated CMIN=79,4, df=62; CMIN/df=1,28; p=0,067; AGFI=0,956; RMSEA=0,026; SRMR=0,034. Construct validity tests showed higher rates of codependency in the sample of women who are in relationships with addicts compared to the sample of students. Structural model of the influence of emotion regulation on the severity of codependency is presented. It is shown that the degree of codependency depends on the ability to regulate emotions sufficiently. The exaggeration of the likelihood of a bad outcome of the situation ("catastrophization") and the tendency to mentally fixate on negative events and one's own feelings ("rumination") increase the severity of the state of codependency. The strategy of positive refocusing, as well as the ability to reappraise the meaning of the situation, contribute to the prevention of codependency.

Abstract:
We have cloned a novel cDNA (Spa-1) which is little expressed in the quiescent state but induced in the interleukin 2-stimulated cycling state of an interleukin 2-responsive murine lymphoid cell line by differential hybridization. Spa-1 mRNA (3.5 kb) was induced in normal lymphocytes following various types of mitogenic stimulation. In normal organs it is preferentially expressed in both fetal and adult lymphohematopoietic tissues. A Spa-1-encoded protein of 68 kDa is localized mostly in the nucleus. Its N-terminal domain is highly homologous to a human Rap1 GTPase-activating protein (GAP), and a fusion protein of this domain (SpanN) indeed exhibited GAP activity for Rap1/Rsr1 but not for Ras or Rho in vitro. Unlike the human Rap1 GAP, however, SpanN also exhibited GAP activity for Ran, so far the only known Ras-related GTPase in the nucleus. In the presence of serum, stable Spa-1 cDNA transfectants of NIH 3T3 cells (NIH/Spa-1) hardly overexpressed Spa-1 (p68), and they grew as normally as did the parental cells. When NIH/Spa-1 cells were serum starved to be arrested in the G1/G0 phase of the cell cycle, however, they, unlike the control cells, exhibited progressive Spa-1 p68 accumulation, and following the addition of serum they showed cell death resembling mitotic catastrophes of the S phase during cell cycle progression. The results indicate that the novel nuclear protein Spa-1, with a potentially active Ran GAP domain, severely hampers the mitogen-induced cell cycle progression when abnormally and/or prematurely expressed. Functions of the Spa-1 protein and its regulation are discussed in the context of its possible interaction with the Ran/RCC-1 system, which is involved in the coordinated nuclear functions, including cell division.

Abstract:
AbstractClosed bilayer membranes (vesicles) display a plethora of non-spherical shapes under equilibrium conditions, unlike drops and bubbles which are kept spherical by surface tension. Even more complex behaviour arises under applied flow. Intriguingly, a vesicle can adopt asymmetric shapes even under symmetric forcing such as uniaxial extensional flow. Narasimhan, Spann & Shaqfeh (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 750, 2014, pp. 144–190) explain the mechanism of this peculiar instability and trace its origin to the tension which develops in the area-incompressible membrane in response to the applied stress. The authors also show that this mechanism is relevant to the pearling of tubular vesicles. This study raises many questions, e.g. whether other soft particles with load-dependent tension such as capsules can undergo similar shape transformations.

Abstract:
Political romanticism is one of the keys to accessing the intellectual debates of the Weimar Republic. This article tries to adopt a radically historicized approach centered on the concept of reception. Such an approach allows it to focus on the strategic nature of the different uses that were made of the romantic paradigm between 1918 and 1933. This article contends that one of the main features that romanticism offers in the German context is its interdiscursive quality that renders it able to transcend traditional political divisions like left /right and conservative/progressive. This idea is illustrated in this article with a series of examples covering the entire lifespan of the Republic and the entire political spectrum therein, which can be represented by such figures as Sigmund Rubinstein, Thomas Mann, Hans Freyer, Carl Schmitt, Karl Mannheim, Othmar Spann, Wilhelm von Schramm, and Paul Tillich.

Abstract:
In most cases, when a teacher signs up to teach chicken embryology in the classroom, the teacher sets up the incubator and the teacher and class wait for the eggs to hatch. That is the experience. But the daily plan of lessons in this guide makes the chicken embryology experience an intracurricular experience. Through a series of activities, students can see firsthand how a chicken develops in an egg. Students will candle eggs to observe chick development, record data, make predictions, and conclude what they think the final outcome will be. The lessons in the guide follow Florida Sunshine State Standards and each contains an experience, instructions, background information, and reflection questions. The 31 lessons address math, language arts, and visual arts, in addition to agricultural literacy and science concepts. Abstract:

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a comprehensive study of psychological characteristics of the manifestation of co-dependent behavior of women. The novelty of the study lies in the development of psychodiagnostics criteria for identifying co-dependent behavior using the content analysis method, using the Thematic Apperceptive Test (TAT) tables with the aim of further developing a set of therapeutic measures. The study involved 152 women from the Rostov region of the Russian Federation aged 17 to 30 years, exhibiting varying degrees of codependence and living with a drug-dependent partner for at least 5 years. The study was carried out using standardized psychological tests and projective methods, which made it possible to identify the degree of manifestation of co-dependent behavior: test “The scale of co-dependence in relations (Spann Fisher)” (adaptation Moskalenko); “Write a story” technique (stimulus material of tables 2, 4 and 6 of TAT. It has been established that content analysis allows us to determine qualitative differences in the degree of manifestation of co-dependent behavior, which we can identify and use in the initial stage of therapy with a co-dependent client, which means that it allows not only to quickly identify the condition, but also to determine its intensity.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to identify the possibility of using the "Method of color metaphors" by I.L. Solomin in the diagnosis of latent motivation of a codependent personality and the use of the data obtained to compile a program of psychocorrective measures. The article focuses on the basic and actual needs of a codependent personality, for predicting and correcting behavior and condition. We assume that the study of the basic needs of the surveyed women will allow us to determine the targets of correctional work and will allow us to develop a plan for psychological interaction with people who have a codependent personal profile. Working with codependency is an important aspect in the context of therapy and rehabilitation of a dependent personality. В In this study, the following methods were used: questionnaire, Spann-Fischer's "Scale for measuring the level of codependency", adapted by V. D. Moskalenko; I. L. Solomin's Method of Color Metaphors. As a result of the research, data reflecting the profile of a codependent personality were obtained: basic needs, attitude to loved ones, attitude to oneself (the ratio of ideal and real images of "I"), attitude to the life process: present, past and future, etc. Also, the information obtained has practical significance, as they are guidelines for building a psychocorrective program, which is reflected in the final part of the article.

Abstract:
Dynamism in culture and personal value orientations leave their mark on such a socio-cultural phenomenon as success. It is classified as one of those concepts, the life meaning of which is clearly understood by everyday consciousness, but its psychological essence is sometimes not obvious due to the multifaceted nature of its meanings and relationships, expressed in its semantics. It was proved that codependent relationships affect the value-semantic sphere of the codependent, the content characteristics of the value-semantic sphere of the codependent change. Among other things, ideas about one's own life, one's future may change, the image of the I and the image of the world, the idea of success, change. The study involved 167 participants - women in codependent relationships. Research methods: methodology "Research of ideas about successful professional activity" (O. Yu. Klochkova); methodology "Motivation for success and fear of failure" (A. A. Rean); methodology "Self-assessment of manifestations of fear of success" (G.V. Turetskaya); scale of measuring codependency in relationships (L. Spann-D. Fisher, adapted by V.D. Moskalenko). Statistical analysis and data processing were performed using the «Microsoft Excel 7.0» и «SPSS» (22.0). Our comparative analysis of the data made it possible to reveal that there are significant differences in the indicators of ideas about success among women with a high and normal level of codependency, and there is also a relationship between the level of codependency and ideas about success.

Abstract:
AbstractLife span bias potentially alters species abundance in death assemblages through the overrepresentation of short-lived organisms compared with their long-lived counterparts. Although previous work found that life span bias did not contribute significantly to live–dead discordance in bivalve assemblages, life span bias better explained discordance in two groups: longer-lived bivalve species and species with known life spans. More studies using local, rather than global, species-wide life spans and mortality rates would help to determine the prevalence of life span bias, especially for long-lived species with known life spans. Here, we conducted a field study at two sites in North Carolina to assess potential life span bias between Mercenaria mercenaria and Chione elevata, two long-lived bivalve species that can be aged directly. We compared the ability of directly measured local life spans with that of regional and global life spans to predict live–dead discordance between these two species. The shorter-lived species (C. elevata) was overrepresented in the death assemblage compared with its live abundance, and local life span data largely predicted the amount of live–dead discordance; local life spans predicted 43% to 88% of discordance. Furthermore, the global maximum life span for M. mercenaria resulted in substantial overpredictions of discordance (1.4 to 1.6 times the observed live–dead discordance). The results of this study suggest that life span bias should be considered as a factor affecting proportional abundances of species in death assemblages and that using life span estimates appropriate to the study locality improves predictions of discordance based on life span compared with using global life span estimates.

Abstract:
The red-cell anion exchanger (band 3; AE1) is a multispanning membrane protein that traverses the bilayer up to 14 times and is N-glycosylated at Asn-642. We have shown that the integrity of six different loops are not essential for stilbene disulphonate-sensitive chloride uptake in Xenopus oocytes. We used an N-glycosylation mutagenesis approach to examine the orientation of the N-terminus and the endogenous glycosylation site of each C-terminal fragment by cell-free translation. The fragments initiating in the loops preceding spans 2, 9 and 11 did not insert into the membrane with the expected orientation. Furthermore, N-glycosylation of Asn-642 might facilitate the membrane integration of span 7. The correct integration of spans 2-3 required the presence of the region containing span 4 and that the luminal exposure of the C-terminus of span 7 is increased in the presence of the region including span 6 or span 8. The results suggest the span 8 region is required for the correct folding of spans 9-10, at least in the presence of the span 11-12 region. Our results suggest that there are intramolecular interactions between the regions of transmembrane spans 1 and 2, 2 and 4, 4 and 5, 7 and 8, 8 and 9-10, and 9-10 and 11-12. Spans 1, 4, 5, 6 and 8 might act as a scaffold for the assembly of spans 2-3, 7 and 9-10. This approach might provide a general method for dissecting the interactions between membrane-spanning regions of polytopic membrane proteins.

Abstract:
Introduction: Addiction affects not only the person himself but the entire family where the family members knowingly or unknowingly nurture, protect and support the addict. As it is in the human nature to help others but sometimes this behavior works as a double edged sword and will make it easier for the addict to continue the downward spiral of the addiction. One of the crucial step in creating a healthy environment for the addict and their family members is to identify these behaviors. In order to prevent these codependent behaviors the family members must learn to avoid such codependent behaviors. The presence of a substance addict in the family is an extremely difficult experience which affects the social, economic, physical and psychological condition of the entire family. Coping strategies refer to the attempts that people employ to tolerate and reduce the stressful situations or events. Objective: To study the codependency and evaluate various coping strategies employed by the spouses of substance abusers and assess the severity of addiction among the substance users. Materials And Methods: The study was conducted on spouses of (N=100) patients with 50 opioid and 50 alcohol dependence syndrome presenting to DMC&H and psychiatric evaluation was done using Spann Fischer Codependency Scale, Coping Questionnaire and Performa for Severity of Addiction. Results: All the spouses in our study were females. All the spouses showed codependency out of which 60% of the spouses showed higher codependency. Spouses used engaged, tolerant and withdrawal strategies as their coping mechanism. Though no significant difference was found between coping strategies used by the spouses of opioid and alcohol dependent individuals. It was associated significantly with socio-economic status, age of the patient, duration of substance dependence and type of substance abuse. Conclusion: Our study showed that the spouses of substance dependent individuals showed codependency and in ......

Abstract:
The presence of codependent behavior affects many areas of life, while distorting most of the personality's beliefs. Some of the most striking distortions concern the notion of success. At the same time, in conditions of uncertainty (for example, during the COVID-19 pandemic), these changes began to be of a special nature, which can be reflected not only in the features of psychocorrectional measures, but also on the quality of life of the codependent individual as a whole. The empirical object of the study was 167 women, aged 29-35 years, in relationships (in two study periods: "before the pandemic" and "during the pandemic"). Based on the test "Scale for measuring codependency in relationships" (L. Spann-D. Fisher, adapted by V. D. Moskalenko), the sample was divided into 2 subgroups of 47 people: women with a normal level of codependency, women with pronounced codependency. The article shows that the level of codependency of women during the period "during a pandemic" is associated with the fear of not having enough time devoted to the family, with the fear of saving the family and with the fear of a leadership position. We found a relationship between the manifestation of codependency in women during a pandemic and an orientation toward failure. There is a relationship between pre-pandemic level of codependency in women and women's perceptions of success. The level of manifestation of codependency in women in the period "before the pandemic" has an inverse relationship associated with the fear of a lack of time devoted to the family, with the fear of a leadership position. A direct correlation was revealed between their level of codependency and dissatisfaction with their professional role. A relationship was found between the level of codependency and the orientation towards success.

Abstract:
Compared with static thermal rating (STR), dynamic thermal rating (DTR) technology can explore the potential current-carrying capacity of overhead lines and bring considerable economic benefits. Considering that there are many spans of the overhead line, it is uneconomical to arrange equipment on each span. It is necessary to balance the investment cost and evaluation accuracy, and select the spans that can represent the current-carrying capacity of the whole line for monitoring. These spans are called ‘critical spans’. The critical spans are the spans with low DTR, and these current-carrying capacities limit the increase of the current of the whole line, which are most likely to exceed the current limit. The current along the overhead line is constantly fluctuating, and it is possible to exceed the current limit only when the current is large and exceeds the STR. In this paper, the periods are filtered before selecting the critical spans, which are called the ‘critical periods’. Considering the above factors, this paper proposes a critical span identification model of overhead line considering the critical periods. While selecting the critical spans, it also ensures that each span does not violate the ground clearance.

Abstract:
Numerous tests designed to detect realized jumps over a fixed time span have been proposed and extensively studied in the financial econometrics literature. These tests differ from “long time span tests” that detect jumps by examining the magnitude of the jump intensity parameter in the data generating process, and which are consistent. In this paper, long span jump tests are compared and contrasted with a variety of fixed span jump tests in a series of Monte Carlo experiments. It is found that both the long time span tests of Corradi et al. (2018) and the fixed span tests of Aït-Sahalia and Jacod (2009) exhibit reasonably good finite sample properties, for time spans both short and long. Various other tests suffer from finite sample distortions, both under sequential testing and under long time spans. The latter finding is new, and confirms the “pitfall” discussed in Huang and Tauchen (2005), of using asymptotic approximations associated with finite time span tests in order to study long time spans of data. An empirical analysis is carried out to investigate the implications of these findings, and “time-span robust” tests indicate that the prevalence of jumps is not as universal as might be expected.

Abstract:
The elastic stability of two span continuous beams has been studied using FEA methods. Two formulae for estimating the critical loads are proposed, one is suitable for two-span beams with one span loaded, while the other is suitable for two-span beams with both spans equally loaded. Two identical concentrated loads symmetrically located about the mid-span of each loaded span were considered in the derivation of both formulae, and the effect of the height of loaded points for doubly symmetric beams was included. The formulae presented are also accurate enough in calculating the critical loads for two-span continuous beams with the mono-symmetric sections used in practice if the point of load application is at or above the shear centre. A linear approximation is suggested for the interaction of two spans when the two spans of the beam are not equally loaded. For a two-span continuous runway girder supporting moving cranes, the minimum critical load and the maximum absolute moment were investigated, some possible combination of wheel forces on beams considered, and approaches to calculating the critical load for each load combination are suggested when the girder has either one or two cranes moving along it.

Abstract:
This paper presents the first-known exact solutions for the vibration of multi-span rectangular Mindlin plates with two opposite edges simply supported. The Levy type solution method and the state-space technique are employed to develop an analytical approach to deal with the vibration of rectangular Mindlin plates of multiple spans. Exact vibration frequencies are obtained for two-span square Mindlin plates with varying span ratios and two-, three- and four-equal-span rectangular Mindlin plates. The influence of the span ratios, the number of spans and plate boundary conditions on the vibration behavior of square and rectangular Mindlin plates is examined. The presented exact vibration results may serve as benchmark solutions for such plates.

Abstract:
Studies on live load effects reported in recent literature are based on simple span bridges or on a limited number of continuous span bridges and regular configurations. In this study, an extensive probabilistic assessment of live load effects on continuous bridges is carried out for regular and irregular span configurations using weigh-in-motion data. Single vehicle passage is considered, and live load effects are compared with those from a live load model developed for simple spans from the same database. Truck models from Canada are also used for comparison purposes. Discussion of the fitting of extreme distribution is included, and an optimization scheme for the fitting is proposed. The most important finding of the study is that the use of live load models developed from simple spans or a limited number of continuous spans may not be suitable for designing continuous bridges, especially those with irregular configurations and short spans.

Abstract:
Introduction. The vast majority of reinforced concrete bridges built in Ukraine until the 1950s were mostly monolithic. Spans were built of monolithic concrete with a length of 2, ..., 6 m and ribbed structures with a length of 8, ..., 15 m. Monolithic spans were provided with good spatial work and considerable durability. Problems Statement. The main disadvantage of reinforced concrete monolithic spans of bridges built before the 50s of the last century was the low design strength of concrete, which over time led to defects and thus reduce their durability. In addition, the vast majority of such bridges with monolithic spans were built according to technical standards of 1962 and earlier, and at this time the load capacity does not meet the requirements of modern regulations. The need to study the stress-strain state, to determine the bearing capacity of the spans of bridges after long-term operation, given the above, is an important factor in deciding on the feasibility of their repair. Purpose. Research of the stress-strain state of the structures of the monolithic spans of the bridge after its long operation. Materials and Methods. A survey of the monolithic reinforced concrete span of the bridge, built in 1940, was carried out. It was established that the span of the bridge, in accordance with the identified defects, is in a limited working condition (condition 4). And given the low load capacity of the span, condition 5 (inoperable) was finally adopted. The main defects found during the inspections of the span significantly reduce its durability and bearing capacity. Destruction of the protective layer of beams of the span with exposure and intensive corrosion of reinforcement with weakening of the area by more than 10% was revealed. Based on the data from the inspection of the bridge, it was decided to conduct additional tests to determine the stress-strain state of the spans, the availability of strength reserves and the possibility of strengthening them or the need for replacement. Results. Based on the test of the bridge, the parameters of spatial work and stress-strain state of the span were determined by measuring the absolute deformations (deflections) under the action of static load. According to the test results, the value of the design coefficient k, which is in the range of 0.1… 0.79, was determined. The values of the transverse distribution coefficients (CRC) for each beam were experimentally determined and the numerical analysis of the field and analytical spatial work of the span of the bridge on the transverse distribution coefficients was performed. Conclusion. The results of the analysis of experimentally and analytically obtained test data of the bridge indicate the normal spatial operation of the bridge spans, which corresponds to the nature of the idealized finite element scheme, good spatial rigidity and the presence of strength reserves in the bridge spans. Key words: bridges, span, tests, deformability, technical condition.

The model of three-span rotor-bearing system with three cracks in shaft supporting on the six sliding bearings was set up. The influences of crack faults to the responses of the rotor system were studied on numerical simulation. Along with the increase of the crack depth in first span, the main influence to the dynamic characteristics of the system is in the first span. Along with the increase of the crack depth in second span, the main influences to the response of first and third spans are in the region of critical rotate speed, and it to the second span is in the regions of critical and supercritical rotate speed. Along with the increase of the crack depth in third span, the main influences to the response of the three spans are in the region of critical rotate speed.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to examine the relationship among anthropometric dimensions, grip span, discomfort, gender, and grip strength. The 24 volunteer subjects (12 males, 12 females) performed five grips squeezing their hardest for 2 minutes at each of the five grip spans on the Jamar grip dynamometer. The grip strength was recorded using the UPC software and then averaged for each of the 30 second intervals. The data was analyzed using ANOVA, post-hoc (Tukey) hypothesis tests, and regression. In the ANOVA analysis gender, grip span, time, and the interactions of gender-grip span, grip span-time, and time-gender were determined to be the significant effects. In all four of the 30 second intervals, average grip strength was significantly higher for males than females. Female average grip strength was found to be 70% of male average grip strength. The post-hoc (Tukey) tests showed that grip spans 3, 4, and 2 were significantly higher than grip spans 5 and 1. The anthropometry of several segments of the hand were found to be important predictors of grip strength and discomfort in the stepwise regressions. Grip span 4 had the highest average severity of discomfort, while grip span 1 had the most areas of the hand experiencing discomfort.
