Abstract:
Since the inception of the European Space Agency's (ESA) technology transfer programme (TTP) in 1990, more than 400 potential spin-off technologies have been marketed throughout Europe by the Spacelink network of technology brokers that have been contracted to assist ESA in implementing the programme. During the eight years of programme operation, more than 70 transfers of space technology to many sectors of industry throughout Europe have been achieved. Over half of the technology donor and receiver companies to date have been SMEs. The work done by the TTP and Spacelink is complemented by ESA's recently established SME Initiative, which aims to promote better interactions between SMEs and the space industry as a whole. This paper describes both of these ESA programmes, and outlines ways in which SMEs can be supported and participate in space technology transfer activities.

A normal field [Formula: see text] on a spacelike surface in [Formula: see text] is called bi-normal if [Formula: see text], the determinant of the Weingarten map associated to [Formula: see text], is zero. Abstract:
Complete spacelike surfaces with constant mean curvature (CMC) and bounded hyperbolic angle in Generalized Robertson–Walker (GRW) spacetimes, obeying certain natural curvature assumptions, are studied. This boundedness assumption arises as a natural extension of the notion of bounded hyperbolic image of a spacelike surface in the 3-dimensional Lorentz–Minkowski spacetime. The results obtained apply to complete CMC spacelike surfaces lying between two spacelike slices in an GRW spacetime, in the steady state spacetime and in a static GRW spacetime. As an application, uniqueness and non-existence theorems for certain CMC spacelike surface differential equations in a wide family of open GRW spacetimes are given.

AbstractFor a compact spacelike constant mean curvature surface with nonempty boundary in the three-dimensional Lorentz–Minkowski space, we introduce a rotation index of the lines of curvature at the boundary umbilical point, which was developed by Choe [‘Sufficient conditions for constant mean curvature surfaces to be round’, Math. Ann.323(1) (2002), 143–156]. Using the concept of the rotation index at the interior and boundary umbilical points and applying the Poincaré–Hopf index formula, we prove that a compact immersed spacelike disk type capillary surface with less than four vertices in a domain of $\Bbb L^3$ bounded by (spacelike or timelike) totally umbilical surfaces is part of a (spacelike) plane or a hyperbolic plane. Moreover, we prove that the only immersed spacelike disk type capillary surface inside a de Sitter surface in $\Bbb L^3$ is part of (spacelike) plane or a hyperbolic plane.

Under boundedness assumptions on the warping function restricted on a spacelike hypersurface and on the hyperbolic angle of the hypersurface, we prove that a complete spacelike hypersurface is parabolic if the Riemannian universal covering of the fiber is so. As an application of this new technique, several uniqueness results on complete maximal spacelike hypersurfaces are obtained. Also, the corresponding Calabi–Bernstein problems are solved.

We provide upper and lower bounds for the volume of a compact spacelike hypersurface in an (n + 1)-dimensional Generalized Robertson–Walker (GRW) spacetime in terms of the volume of the fiber, the hyperbolic angle function and the warping function. Under several geometrical and physical assumptions, we characterize the spacelike slices as the only spacelike hypersurfaces where these bounds are attained. As a consequence of these results, we get an upper bound for the first eigenvalue of a compact spacelike surface in a three-dimensional GRW spacetime whose fiber is a topological sphere, which includes the case of the three-dimensional De Sitter spacetime, and show that the bound is attained if and only if M is a spacelike slice.

AbstractIn this paper we study the problem of uniqueness for spacelike hypersurfaces with constant higher order mean curvature in generalized Robertson–Walker (GRW) spacetimes. In particular, we consider the following question: under what conditions must a compact spacelike hypersurface with constant higher order mean curvature in a spatially closed GRW spacetime be a spacelike slice? We prove that this happens, essentially, under the so callednull convergence condition. Our approach is based on the use of the Newton transformations (and their associated differential operators) and the Minkowski formulae for spacelike hypersurfaces.

On any spacelike surface in a light cone of four-dimensional Lorentz–Minkowski space, a distinguished smooth function is considered. We show how both extrinsic and intrinsic geometry of such a surface are codified by this function. The existence of a local maximum is assumed to decide when the spacelike surface must be totally umbilical, deriving a Liebmann-type result. Two remarkable families of examples of spacelike surfaces in a light cone are explicitly constructed. Finally, several results that involve the first eigenvalue of the Laplace operator of a compact spacelike surface in a light cone are obtained.

The investigation of objects in Minkowski space is of great significance, especially for those objects with mathematical and physical backgrounds. In this paper, we study nullcone fronts, which are formed by the light rays emitted from points on a spacelike curve. However, if the spacelike curve is singular, then we cannot use the usual tools and methods to study related issues. To solve these problems, we show the definition of spacelike framed curves in Minkowski 3-space, whose original curves may contain singularities. Then, the singularities of the nullcone fronts are characterized by using framed curvatures of spacelike framed curves. Finally, we exhibit some examples to illustrate our results.

The approach of the paper is on spacelike circular surfaces in the Minkowski 3-space. A spacelike circular surface is a one-parameter family of Lorentzian circles with a fixed radius regarding a non-null curve, which acts as the spine curve, and it has symmetrical properties. In the study, we have parametrized spacelike circular surfaces and have provided their geometric and singularity properties such as Gaussian and mean curvatures, comparing them with those of ruled surfaces and the classification of singularities. Furthermore, the conditions for spacelike roller coaster surfaces to be flat or minimal surfaces are obtained. Meanwhile, we support the results of the approach with some examples.

A similar but simpler instance of spacelike deformation allows to increase the mass of scalar fields.

Abstract:
In this paper, we establish the notion of (r, s)-stability concerning spacelike hypersurfaces with higher-order mean curvatures linearly related in conformally stationary spacetimes of constant sectional curvature. In this setting, we characterize (r, s)-stable closed spacelike hypersurfaces through the analysis of the first eigenvalue of an operator naturally attached to the higher-order mean curvatures. Moreover, we obtain sufficient conditions which assure the (r, s)-stability of complete spacelike hypersurfaces immersed in the de Sitter space.

This paper is investigated geometry of vector fields along spacelike curve with timelike normal vector by using anholonomic coordinates. Derivative formulas of Frenet Serret frame of the curve are stated which includes eight parameters. Surfaces with vanishing abnormality of normal direction in Minkowski space are examined. Intrinsic geometric properties of these spacelike surfaces are investigated. Finally, the relations between spacelike surfaces with vanishing abnormality of normal direction and NLS, Heisenberg spin equation are investigated as applications.

Abstract:
This paper presents a new type of spacelike magnetic curves associated with the Sabban vector field defined in the Minkowski space. In this approach, some geometrical and physical features of the moving charged particle corresponding to the spacelike magnetic curves are identified. An entire characterization is developed for spacelike spherical magnetic curves, denoting particularly the changes of their energy with respect to time, the influence of the magnetic force on them, and the existence condition for the uniformity of these curves.

Abstract The complete set of relations, which mutually express the spacelike and timelike kernel functions for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment a μ HVP in terms of each other, is obtained. By making use of the derived relations the explicit expression for the next-to-leading order spacelike kernel function, which enters the representation for a μ HVP involving the hadronic vacuum polarization function, is obtained. The corresponding next-to-leading order spacelike kernel function, which appears in the representation for a μ HVP involving the Adler function, is calculated numerically. The obtained results can be employed in the assessments of the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment in the framework of the spacelike methods, such as lattice studies, MUonE project, and others.

AbstractIn this paper we develop general Minkowski-type formulae for compact spacelike hypersurfaces immersed into conformally stationary spacetimes, that is, Lorentzian manifolds admitting a timelike conformal field. We apply them to the study of the umbilicity of compact spacelike hypersurfaces in terms of their $r$-mean curvatures. We derive several uniqueness results, for instance, compact spacelike hypersurfaces are umbilical if either some of their $r$-mean curvatures are linearly related or one of them is constant.AMS 2000 Mathematics subject classification: Primary 53C42. Abstract:
In this paper, we try to give a classification of spacelike hypersurfaces of the Lorentz-Minkowski space-time E1n+1, whose mean curvature vector field of order (k+ 1) is an eigenvector of the kth linearized operator Lk, for a non-negative integer k less than n. The operator Lk is defined as the linear part of the first variation of the (k + 1)th mean curvature of a hypersurface arising from its normal variations. We show that any spacelike hypersurface of E1n+1 satisfying the condition LkHk+1 = λHk+1 (where 0 ≤ k ≤ n − 1) belongs to the class of Lk-biharmonic, Lk-1-type or Lk-null-2-type hypersurface. Furthermore, we study the above condition on a well-known family of spacelike hypersurfaces of Lorentz-Minkowski spaces, named the weakly convex hypersurfaces (i.e. on which all of principle curvatures are nonnegative). We prove that, on any weakly convex spacelike hypersurface satisfying the above condition for an integer k (where, 0 ≤ r ≤ n−1), the (k + 1)th mean curvature will be constant. As an interesting result, any weakly convex spacelike hypersurfaces, having assumed to be Lk-biharmonic, has to be k-maximal.

Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate differential geometry on spacelike submanifolds in Lorentz–Minkowski space from the viewpoint of contact with lightlike hyperplanes. It is called the lightlike flat geometry which has been well established for the codimension-two case. In order to develop the theory for the general codimension-case, we introduce the notion of codimension-two spacelike canal submanifolds which is a main tool in this paper. We apply the theory of Lagrangian/Legendrian singularities to codimension-two spacelike canal submanifolds and obtain the relation with the previous results on the codimension-two case.
