Abstract:
Although there are many studies addressing the purchase of souvenirs, a few provide practical insights for practitioners in the souvenir industry regarding tourist’s preferred souvenir attributes, what they purchase, and how much they spend. Furthermore, little is known about souvenir collectors’ preferences. To address these gaps, this study analyzes tourists’ souvenir purchasing behavior with both quantitative (277 responses to a questionnaire) and qualitative (85 interviews) methods. The results indicate that the quality of the souvenir, gift appropriateness, and having the name or design of the place visited were the souvenir attributes most valued by the tourists. The results also reveal the importance of souvenir collectors, since they buy more souvenirs and spend higher amounts per souvenir. Further insights are given regarding the purchase of souvenirs, providing practical implications for practitioners in the souvenir industry.

This activity aims to develop the potential for cultural literacy tourism in Padepokan Panji Asmoro Bangun Kedungmonggo Hamlet, Karangpandan Village, District. Pakisaji, Malang Regency. The service focuses on increasing the ability to equip Padepokan as a tourism destination for mask culture literacy. This activity responds to the problem of lack of resources, one of which is to procure souvenirs in sufficient quantities to meet the demand of tourist groups (large group visits). The solution is to invite partners to discuss so that they can find a SWOT study of this destination. The main priority problem to be resolved is the availability of souvenirs and souvenir packaging. The service team conducted training and provided materials for making mask souvenirs with three variations, namely coloring media masks, refrigerator magnet masks, and masks in the form of brooches. Souvenir packaging is also an important part, mask souvenirs require packaging that maintains their durability and cleanliness, but still shows the face of the mask when displayed. The Service Team prepares packaging designs to meet the criteria, effective, ergonomic, easy to recognize, easy to carry, artistic value, and promotional value. This dedication has provided a solution by completing the needs of tourist destinations in the form of souvenirs with packaging designed complete with mask character stories.ABSTRAKKegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan potensi wisata literasi budaya di Padepokan Panji Asmoro Bangun Dusun Kedungmonggo, Desa Karangpandan, Kec. Pakisaji, Kabupaten Malang. Abstract:
Introduction. The relevance of the considered scientific problem is that souvenir products are a component of the communicative paradigm of territorial branding, and a souvenir itself acts as a visual carrier of identification of a tourist region. A regional souvenir product has the following specific features: geographical reference to the territory reflecting its peculiarities, cultural and historical traditions in manufacturing and positioning. Consumers’ perception of souvenirs plays an important role in forming impressions about the region. Despite the availability of researches on this topic, the question remains unexplored to what extent the perception of souvenir products forms the basis for their choice. At the same time, to find answers it is essential to use an integrated approach to obtaining the information of interest to us for a comprehensive objective coverage of the issues of territorial branding and the elements of its components, based on the use of both verbal and experimental methods. Thus, the purpose of this article was to study the verbal and non-verbal consumer perception of regional souvenir products to assess the possibilities of its use in the process of commodity positioning and promotion of the Republic of Crimea. Materials and Methods. To examine the visual perception of autochthonous souvenirs, an experimental study of consumer perception based on neuromarketing methods was conducted. The work was carried out on the materials of the Republic of Crimea. The research data were an array of biometric data obtained during experiments, proprietary algorithms and analysis models were applied. Results. The verbal and nonverbal consumer perceptions of souvenir products have been studied. It is shown that the most popular souvenirs are sweets, cosmetics, essential oils and wine. These products emphasize the authenticity of origin and contribute to the commodity positioning of administrative-territorial units. There is an unevenness in the development of souvenir production in the Republic of Crimea. The classification of districts has been carried out, administrative-territorial units with high and medium levels of diversification of goods have been identified, as well as depressed territories that are poorly positioned. Promising models of promotion of regional souvenir products are shown. Discussion and Conclusion. The theoretical and applied aspects of the study of the visual attractiveness asymmetry of souvenirs have been improved. The paper also presents the author’s position on the relevance of the promotion of souvenir branding in regional tourist destinations. As a result of a comprehensive neuromarketing experiment, the most attractive Crimean souvenir products from the consumers’ point of view were determined based on the assessment of the figurative identification of territories by respondents and the correlation of gender characteristics with the choice of souvenirs offered. The results of the study can be used to improve and adjust the process of cooperation between souvenir producers, tourism entities and the state, as the most interested entity in the development of tourist destinations.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to businesses worldwide, with the tourism industry being particularly hard-hit. In Ambon City, where tourism plays a significant role in the local economy, understanding the dynamics of souvenir demand during this crisis is crucial for the survival and adaptation of souvenir businesses like UD.N. This study was aimed at determining the Demand for souvenirs in UD. N. Ambon City. We conducted a mixed-methods research approach. First, surveys were administered to tourists or customers Ambon City to gather quantitative data on souvenir demand and preferences. Second, in-depth interviews were conducted with UD.N. owners and staff to gain insights into their strategies and challenges during the pandemic. Data analysis involved both descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis. Primary data was collected by interviewing as many as 40 people. Our findings reveal a significant decline in souvenir demand during the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily due to reduced tourism activities and travel restrictions. The results showed that the Demand for food souvenirs was significantly influenced by the price of souvenirs, consumer income, prices of substitute goods, age, tastes, and future forecasts simultaneously. Meanwhile, tastes and future forecasts partially influence the Demand for food souvenirs. On the other hand, the Demand for non-food souvenirs, simultaneously or partially, is not significantly influenced by all research variables. The types of food souvenirs that consumers are most interested in are sago tumbu and Nona Fitria Nut Bagea. Meanwhile, the most popular type of non-food souvenir is Namlea eucalyptus oil in 100 ml.

Abstract:
Batam is developing into a tourism city, however, Batam tourism has not been supported by the souvenir center to sell local people's work. There are several tourist center areas in Batam, but they have not specifically sold special souvenirs from Batam. This study aims to determine the right location for a typical souvenir center of Batam based on a decision analysis of the factors of tourist interest. The method used in this study is the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) by using six variables of tourist interests, which were obtained from previous studies, namely the existence of a tourist center, accessibility, accommodation, transportation, culinary services and the availability of souvenir products. The six variables are paired with the five tourist center areas in Batam, which are obtained based on the results of the researcher's field survey. The decision analysis was carried out by three respondents who are relevant to this study, namely the government, small and medium enterprises, and academics who have expertise in the relevant fields. Based on the research results, it was found that the right location for a typical souvenir center of Batam, Nagoya. This is because Nagoya is the iconic center of Batam with the biggest shopping mall, so tourists will definitely visit Nagoya as an experience of traveling to Batam to buy various kinds of souvenir products from food, drinks, clothes, bags, shoes, perfume and various other accessories. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the existence of an important souvenir center is considered by stakeholders in developing tourism in Batam, so that the local culture of Batam is better known by tourists by buying typical Batam souvenirs at souvenir centers and can also improve the economy of the local population by producing Batam souvenirs

Abstract:
This Ph.D. thesis aims at an analysis of various forms of cultural production and links with linguistic and politic realities in the Canadian Province Québec. The existence of a French-speaking Québec and its difference cannot be explained without considering “the rest of Canada” as a major factor. Identity references and images of history are seen as public expressions in journalistic, artistic, educational or other forms. The present relevance of historical facts, the specific usage of history, its heroes and its makers are of special interest in narratives operating at the intersection of public sphere and memory politics. Various sources were used in the process of research: film, literature, the press and politics. Special attention was given to history text books in English and French used for secondary level courses in Québec schools. In a number of conflicts the opponents were not on both sides of the language barrier representing „english“ and „french“ interests. One example studied is the case of the intricate relations between liberal political power in Ottawa and the conservative Catholic Church in Québec. At the same time, heterogeneous structures seem to be faded out in specific situations when powerful lines of separation are drawn. In critical situations solidarities are formed in Canada and Québec along the lines of language, religion, politics and ethnic background. As a result of the study it became clear that the separation of Québec from Canada would result not in two parts, Québec and “English Canada” but that the cohesion of the present federation would eventually dissolve into much smaller parts. It also became clear that there is an integral relation between the distinctness of a population with a catholic and French-speaking majority and the English monarchy present in America.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Davies, James Quail. "A musical souvenir : London in 1829." Thesis, University of Cambridge, 2005. https://www.repository.cam.ac.uk/handle/1810/244877.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis involves a 'thick description' of music and musical representation in a single year: 1829. The context for the study is London, although the city has been approached less as a metropolitan than as a cosmopolitan centre, a global capital with global significance. This is a cultural history of music presented as a montage of case studies formed around musical events. Cases have been selected both with the general contrast of the group and the variety of musical types available to the description in mind (concert music, or major and minor theatrical forms). The potential of each event to have meaning beyond itself (to be representative) has been a third consideration, since cases are discussed in terms of broader historical, political and cultural flows. Newspapers, playbills, manuscript scores, almanacs, handbills, memoirs, journals, diaries and other ephemera have been used both to locate and frame evidence. The montage of cut-outs, in other words, forms an ensemble of partial histories, a picture of the intricately textured life of musical London. Cases are as follows: the final performances of a castrato analysed in terms of the emergence of the biological sciences and shifts in the history of the voice; a danced Beethoven symphony discussed in terms of ballet and concert trends; a colonial melodrama dealt with from the perspective of the postcolonial critic; an exploration of how new ways of imagining the city relate to new ways of imagining symphonic discourse; female duet-singing approached in light of psychoanalysis and gender studies; and the exchange of a musical annual looked at in view of the anthropology and philosophy of the gift. The use of the appellation 'A Musical Souvenir' in the title gestures towards the emergence of the 'music-annual form' in 1829, and - related to this - an emerging awareness of what I call 'year-historical situatedness'.

Abstract:
Experience of Antarctica is unique and overwhelming and the phenomenon of the landscape and knowledge of its history continues to inspire artists and writers. Since Antarctica's discovery and exploration both before and during the Heroic Age; explorers, expeditioners, artists and writers have attempted to record and visualise Antarctica. In1982 international Antarctic programmes started to assist artists to travel to Antarctica with the intention of providing perceptive interpretations no longer attached to science or exploration. This practice-led research is the first project where a jeweller has explored and interpreted a personal experience of Antarctica to produce souvenir and jewellery objects. These objects reveal new interpretations of Antarctica that engage with the viewer through the recognisable personal jewellery and souvenir object. This research has produced new contemporary souvenir and jewellery objects by interpreting both personal photographs and re-examining the historic stories, photographs and representations of Antarctica. The bibliographic investigations of historical jewellery and souvenirs provided specific examples of historical personal mementos that are now displayed in museums. This research analyses the meaning of historical examples of souvenirs and jewellery and examines the way in which photography has been manipulated and used on hard media. Through this analysis and examination of historical examples the research focuses on studio-based experimentation with enamelling and contemporary technologies to establish the links enamelling has had with micromosaics and miniature painting. This practice-led research investigates new and innovative ways to interpret these historical techniques and draw on the notion of the souvenir. Thinking through the processes used in this research and retelling the personal experience of Antarctica, contemporary technologies are used to reimagine historical examples of tourist jewellery and personal souvenirs presenting a further understanding of Antarctica's significance both culturally and environmentally. The research not only provides an addition to the diverse range of interpretations of Antarctica it also explores the area of enamelling in contemporary jewellery and object making by contributing to the current revival of the tradition both locally and internationally. This research offers new experiences and knowledge through the investigation, experimentation, manufacture and installation of enamelled objects.

Abstract:
Shopper bags with images or symbols of a particular place are a current example of solving the problem of positioning territories using the example of souvenirs. Growing awareness of the environmental problems caused by single-use plastic bags has led to resurgence in popularity of this type of bag. In addition to its main function (carrying things), a shopper bag with the symbols of the place visited can serve as a basis for promoting territories and gaining popularity, while remaining a functional part of everyday life. This is a practical souvenir for everyday use.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper analyzes tourist inflows as a determinant of merchandise exports for the Pacific and finds that inbound tourism to Pacific developing member countries significantly increases merchandise exports from these economies. Exports are further boosted if international tourists come from countries with which Pacific developing member countries have a shared language, formed an economic partnership through free trade agreements, and have easy visa policies. The paper recommends that inbound tourism to the Pacific is leveraged to diversify economic activities and develop industries, such as garments or souvenir-related manufacturing.

Abstract:

Institute of Development Studies, November 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/core.2023.004.

Abstract:

Abstract:
