Abstract:
This study examines the interview discourse of five African American speakers in Washington, D.C., particularly paying attention to their discussions on issues surrounding a marginalized section of the city, namely, Southeast. The study provides discourse-based evidence of Southeast’s marginalization, which is reflected in the widely circulating discourse on Southeast’s reputation. Drawing on Positioning Theory, the study shows how Southeast speakers and non-Southeast speakers exhibit different positioning in assessing the reputation. The study illuminates how different positioning characterizes some of the key aspects of a marginalized neighborhood, concomitantly reflecting how different groups in the city construct and evaluate their own identities and others.

"Population Structure ofLeishmania tropicaCausing Anthroponotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Southern Iran by PCR-RFLP of Kinetoplastid DNA." BioMed Research International 2018 (June 6, 2018): 1–11. http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2018/6049198.

Abstract:
Iran is one of the six countries with the most cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) patients. Understanding better the genotypes of the parasite population in relation to geography and climate is critical to achieving better CL control. We aimed to characterise the population structure ofLeishmania tropica, the cause of anthroponotic cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL), from important foci in southeast (Bam and Kerman) and southwest (Shiraz) Iran. A total of 39L. tropicaisolates from ACL patients from southeast (Bam 14, Kerman 12) and southwest (Shiraz 13) Iran were analysed by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) of the kinetoplast DNA (kDNA) using restriction enzymesMspI (HpaII) andClaI. 37 genotypes were identified among south IranL. tropicaisolates. The unweighted pair group method with arithmetic mean (UPGMA) tree obtained from the banding patterns ofClaI digested kDNA RFLP distinguished southeast from and southwestL. tropicaisolates with some subclustering but theMspI derived tree showed greater discrimination with greater subclustering and divergence of the two foci of southeast region but with some overlapping. Although a monophyletic structure has been defined for southeastL. tropica, isolates from two foci of southeast Iran were partly discriminated in the current study.

Abstract:
This text aims to give an overview of existing biennials in Southeast Asia. By adopting a national perspective, it describes the genesis, the continuation (or not) and the programmatic character of regional biennials. The text proposes that the idea of perennial exhibition can be traced to the 1970s, when the ASEAN started to promote regional events, in an attempt to create unicity through culture. As this project lost vitality, it was substituted for biennials in Southeast Asia and in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the reasons behind their genesis, some biennials that were established in Southeast Asia follow the biennale model while others follow the model of resistance biennales. This shows variety and regional independence toward the global world.
