Abstract:
Specimens of the genus Ulota kept in the bryological herbaria of MW, MHA, LE, NSK, IRK, UUH, VLA and VBGI were revisited basing on the recent taxonomical treatments of the genus in Europe, Asia and North America. Among ten species of the genus previously known from the territory of Russia, U. phyllantha was recently transferred to the new genus, Plenogemma, while Ulota crispa, which has been considered before in the broad sense, was proved to include at least three separate species, U. crispa s. str., U. intermedia and U. crispula; all three species occur in Russia. According to our results, diversity of the genus within North East Asian center (cf. Garilleti et al., 2015) was underestimated. Two new species from the of U. japonica affinity, U. orientalis sp. nov. and U. pacifica sp. nov. are described herein from north Pacific Region (Khabarovsk Territory and South Kurils correspondingly). Thus, at least thirteen taxa of the genus are presently known in Russia; distribution data were significantly corrected for some of them. Key to identification of Ulota species in Russia and adjacent areas is provided; their distribution is discussed and mapped.

ABSTRACT Background A collision tumor is the coexistence of two distinct tumors without any histological intermixing in the same organ or tissue. Though these types of tumors are often seen in various organs, their occurrence in the ovary is rare. Case description Here, we have reported a case series of three collision tumors—serous cystadenoma with mature cystic teratoma, mucinous cystadenoma with benign cystic teratoma, and a case of serous cystadenofibroma with mature cystic teratoma. Clinical significance It is important to identify collision tumors and also document all their components for optimal treatment. How to cite this article Sujithra S, Rani U, Sundaram S, et al. ABSTRACT Adnexal masses in postmenopausal women represent a spectrum of conditions from gynaecologic and non gynaecologic sources. Post-menopausal women are especially at high risk of gynaecologic malignancy however even in this population majority of adnexal masses are benign. Tumor markers and high frequency transvaginal ultrasonography with doppler studies project high quality images allowing for detailed macroscopic appearances of masses and remain the least expensive modalities available. ABSTRACT Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is the rarest type of ectopic pregnancy implanted in the myometrium at the site of the previous cesarean section scar. It may lead catastrophic complications like uterine rupture and uncontrollable hemorrhage.4 Early diagnosis can offer treatment options of avoiding uterine rupture and hemorrhage, thus, preserving the uterus and future fertility. The conservative treatment can be by local and/or systemic administration of methotrexate, dilatation and curettage, excision of trophoblastic tissues (laparoscopy/laparotomy), bilateral internal artery ligation with trophoblastic evacuation and uterine artery embolization7 combined with curettage and/ or methotrexate. We did successful treatment of a viable CSP by systemic injections of methotrexate followed by selective uterine artery embolization in combination with dilatation and curettage. Abstract:
The advancement and promoting by the United States of its concept of Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) has shaped many of political discussions in Asian countries in recent years. The Republic of Korea is no exception. From this perspective, the article reviews the basic aspects of the evolution of South Korea’s foreign policy course as well as new priorities in that area which have been forged with the advent of President Moon Jae-in administration. The paper shows that the complex fluctuations of the South Korea’s external policy have been defined by the need to maintain the focus on the United States, on one side, and desire to nurture strategic partnership with China, on the other side. However, finding the right balance in that political equation has been significantly complicated due to the growing confrontation between the two global powers. Special attention is given to the role and place of South Korea in the U. S. Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy. The article examines the main directions, some of the outcomes and the prospects of cooperation between Washington and Seoul aimed at harmonizing their regional strategies in view of the factors facilitating those interactions as well as those hampering them. President Trump highlighted that the United States – the Republic of Korea alliance remains a linchpin for security, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. However, the dialogue between the two partners has not revealed the willingness of South Korea to collaborate with the United States on that theme beyond a narrow framework of purely economic coordination. Particularly, South Korea has consistently rejected the attempts of its ally to involve the country into the activities of Quad for fear of a possible adverse effect for the Korea–China relationships. All of those questions are examined in the article in linkage with a number of bilateral problems prevailing in the ROK–USA alliance which have complicated the collaboration between the two countries on regional issues in recent times.

Abstract:
Despite a few decades of discussion and the existence of all the studies on the transfer of the Brno Main Station to the river and the subsequent construction of the new Trnitá district, it has not been decided on the exact architectural form of these major urban interventions. In my pre-diploma thesis, I worked out an urban study of a new southern district - Trnitá, which gave above all a functional and mass form of the territory. This location will be extremely interesting for both the city's visitors, who will be moving from the station to the center, and of course for the potential new residents of the district. The district offers a unique combination of city life and recreation in the immediate vicinity of the natural river and park features. For a more detailed elaboration, I chose a building within a walk-through block by a river consisting of two buildings. My goal was to create a new scenery for what's happening in the neighborhood, to design new scenarios for how we can look at blocks. Given the contact with the waterfront and the river, I decided to propose both private and public functions. An important role is played by the courtyard, which defines a private space (a raised platform intended only for the residents of the house) and a public space - a creative center courtyard using a raised part as a residence bench. The mass of the house is horizontally divided into two parts. The first and second floors belong to the creative center, which is transparent with distinctive stone columns. An important goal was to show the life and movement of the center and its openness to new people and ideas - access from the yard. From the third floor there are apartments that are terraced and offer views of the river and roof terraces of deluxe apartments.

Abstract:
In these days of international safety measures there is a small probability of outer attack, which would concern the Czech Republic. A greater risk exists from the side of terrorist attacks or natural disasters and catastrophies of a large extent. An integral part of protection of the population in the situation of threat to the state and state of war is especially a matter of concealment of people from undesirable impacts. The method and content of collective protection of people is determined by the plan of concealment, which belongs to the emergency plan of the region, perchance to outer emergency plans for zones of emergency planning as well as municipality plans. The concealment of people at the state of war in the region territory can be provided in permanent and improvized shelters. They serve for the protection of people from the effects of weapons of mass destruction, they are considerably resistant against direct hits of classic explosives as well as percussion bullets. At present no legislative regulation directs municipalities to work out concealment plans. Public awareness of the character of possible threat, prepared rescue and liquidating works and of protection of people is also insufficient. My thesis shows the present situation and the state of concealment plans at municipalities with extended field of activity in the region of South Bohemia. It compares individual means for concealment of people at municipalities with extended field of activity and their state and applicability in the state of emergency or war. At the same time it shows prospective intentions concerning the protection of people in the Czech Republic until 2013.

Rusert, Britt Marie. "Shackled in the Garden: Ecology and Race in American Plantation Cultures." Diss., 2009. http://hdl.handle.net/10161/1199.

Full text
Abstract:

Even in our contemporary moment, the word plantation evokes a distinctly Southern and rural image in which slavery is well hidden within an idyllic botanical scene. And yet, from the very beginning of industrialization in the United States, plantation agriculture and enslavement were thoroughly embedded in the circuits of Northern capital and urbanization. "Shackled in the Garden" begins from the premise that the plantation is not an archaic institution that withered away in the nineteenth century, but rather is an enduring site of production and reproduction in the U.S. and throughout the Global South. Historically, the plantation has played a central role in organizing racialized bodies, technologies and environments in the South. In the wake of widespread ecological and social disaster across global Southern geographies, I insist that it behooves us to take another view of the plantation.

"Shackled in the Garden" rethinks the plantation as an ecological space: a space of dynamic relations in which racialized bodies and technologies are aggregated and disaggregated by a powerfully tropical environment. In the midst of ongoing crises over the sustainability of the plantation complex in the mid-eighteenth century, the plantation metamorphosized from an idyllic geography of botanical bounty and pure soil to a "toxic paradise": a tainted space that enclosed usable bodies and usable lands to be put in the service of increasingly experimental purposes. This peculiar conjoining of racialized subjects and the environment transformed the plantation into a privileged site for investigations into natural history, which sought to catalog and organize the natural world. Understandings of natural history as an innocent and feminine pursuit based on non-intervention and simple observation of the environment hid rampant experimentation on all kinds of "specimen" on the plantation including botanical species, agricultural crops, livestock, and enslaved persons.

While emergent biological models in the mid-nineteenth century began to understand race and identity as being rooted in the body, climatic or environmental determinations of identity continued to hold rhetorical power. Biology may have achieved a hegemonic position with the increasingly legitimated theories of Darwinian evolution, but natural history did not wither into oblivion. While individuation, mechanization, and biology flourished in the North, the plantation South continued to be figured as a natural ecology, a geography where identity refused its disentanglement from a dangerously miasmic and tropical environment. This project emerges out of both literary studies and science studies. Moving from James Grainger and Thomas Jefferson through Thomas Wentworth Higginson to Booker T. Washington, I explore how a literary imaginary of the plantation pastoral, which continued to represent the plantation as an unenclosed, pre-industrial and green geography in the face of extensive industrialization and environmental degradation, contributed to an understanding of the plantation as a "natural" space of scientific experimentation. The second half of the project considers a perhaps surprising genealogy of plantation fiction from authors such as Martin Delany and Jean Toomer who defamiliarized pastoral naturalizations of plantation space at the same time as they played on the heterotopic spatiality of the plantation to imagine a different, more global plantation South.

Abstract:
AbstractThis study explores how men in South Korea, Spain, and the U.S. use parental leave and shows how distinct labor-market structures, divisions of unpaid and paid labor, and parental leave policies shape individuals’ intentions and decisions to utilize leave policies. Using in-depth interviews of 80 men, we show two important findings: One, in Spain and the U. S., the systematized monetary support strongly encourages fathers to use parental leave whereas in South Korea, a generous policy becomes of little use because work culture heavily discourages men from taking leave. Two, gender norms shape the desirability of using parental leave regardless of the availability of the policy. An emerging group of men in Spain and the U.S. actively reconstruct what an engaged father should do whereas Korean men took it for granted that fathers should not take leave, instead should work even harder to be a responsible father. In the end, this study shows how the monetary structure and schema of what an engaged father should do shape how men approach and use parental leave in three different contexts.

Abstract:
Literary and political expressions of the liberal dream of freedom from the 1880s to the 1970s are analysed in the opening chapter. The liberal dream’s lineage in political discourse is analysed in Cecil John Rhodes’s dreams of unifying South Africa in the 1890s; Olive Schreiner’s political journalism from the 1880s to the 1910s; the ANC’s Bill of Rights of 1923; H. Selby Msimang’s pamphlet The Crisis (1936); R. F. A. Hoernlé’s lectures South African Native Policy and the Liberal Spirit (1939); the ANC’s African Claims in South Africa (1943); the ANC’s Freedom Charter (1955); and the Liberal Party’s Blueprint for South Africa (1958). In juxtaposition with these political texts, the following literary texts articulating the liberal dream of freedom are analysed: Olive Schreiner’s Dreams (1890); J. A. D. Smith’s The Great Southern Revolution (1893); Archibald Lamont’s South Africa in Mars (1923); George Heaton Nicholls’s Bayete! (1923); S. E. K. Mqhayi’s U-Don Jadu (1929); Arthur Keppel-Jones’s When Smuts Goes (1947); Alan Paton’s Cry, the Beloved Country (1948); Lewis Sowden’s Tomorrow’s Comet (1951); Garry Allighan’s Verwoerd —The End (1961); Anthony Delius’s The Day Natal Took Off (1963); Karel Schoeman’s The Promised Land (1972); and Jordan Ngubane’s Ushaba: The Hurtle to Blood River (1974).

Abstract:
The early Permian intrusions of the Alai Segment of the South Tien Shan comprise four geochemically contrasting intrusive series, including (1) I-type and (2) shoshonitic granitoids, (3) peraluminous granitoids including S-type leucogranites and (4) alkaline rocks and carbonatites, closely associated in space and time. New geochronological data indicate that diverse magmatic series of the Alai segment formed virtually coevally in a post-collisional setting. Five U-Pb zircon rock ages in the range 287 – 281 Ma, in combination with published ages, define the main post-collisional magmatic pulse at 290 - 280, which is similar to ages of post-collisional intrusions elsewhere in the South Tien Shan. The Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotopic compositions of the studied intrusions are consistent with the reworking of crustal material with 1.6 – 1.1 Ga average crustal residence times indicating the formation of the Alai segment of the South Tien Shan on a continental basement with Mesoproterozoic or older crust. It is suggested that position of the Alai microcontinent between two major sutures enabled delamination of its lithospheric mantle, which triggered the diverse post-collisional magmatism as a result of interaction of ascending asthenospheric material with lithospheric mantle and various crustal protoliths.

Abstract:
The Areachap Terrane, which is part of the Namaqua Sector of the Namaqua-Natal Belt in the Northern Cape Province, host volcanic-hosted Zn-Cu deposits at volcanic centres. The primary objective was to map Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide (VMS) mineralisation, determine the heavy metal contents of sediments, locate the source of anomalies and delineate targets for follow-up studies. Nine thousand three hundred and fourteen stream sediments samples collected were analysed using XRF. The element associated with their respective lithostratigraphy was calculated using spatial joint analysis tool. ArcGIS was used to display uni-elements maps and relevant multi-element maps. The delineated potential VMS mineralisation target is considered for further follow-up study. The M23 and M24 anomalies are delineated for Cu_Ni mineralisation. M23 and M24 anomalies are sourced from ultramafic debris transported from the Ghaap Group; however, this potential target will require follow-up studies for verification. The correlation between the Cu-Pb-Zn anomaly with alkali elements (Nb, Zr, Th, and U) and REEs (in Table 9) suggests there is a possibility that the M26–M29 anomaly is alkali-granitic genetic origin. The As, Ba, Ce, Cr, Cu, Hf, Nd, Ni, Rb, Sr., S, V, Zr and Zn contents showed a heterogeneous spatial distribution, reflected by high coefficient of variation and large standard deviation.

Abstract:
This chapter begins with the premise that Southern women’s writing is always political, that “all great texts are revolutionary because they change attitudes—mental, social, and political” and follows with an analysis of Eudora Welty’s autobiography One Writer’s Beginnings, initially Harvard’s inaugural lectures on the History of American Civilization. Comparison with Zora Neal Hurston’s Dust Tracks on a Road as a “’figural anthropology’ of the self” (Françoise Lionnet) demonstrates that Welty’s autobiography achieves “a delicate balance between the specificity of the self with its private world and the representative portrait of a continent fostering dreams and illusions.” As Mondrian’s grid paintings illustrate that “background has become exactly coincident with the foreground,” so, too, does Welty’s autobiography equalize the background of the history of the U. S. and the South with the author’s individual life, shifting the “respective positions of reader and writer from intimate exchange to public performance.”

Abstract:
Abstract The supergiant Chuquicamata porphyry Cu-Mo deposit in northern Chile is truncated on its west side by a N-S-trending regional fault (the West fault), juxtaposing its ore to a relatively barren granodiorite (Fortuna Igneous Complex). There has been much speculation about the fate of, and extensive exploration for, the “missing half” of the deposit. It has been proposed that the west side of the fault hides the ore at depth, or that it was uplifted and the ore eroded; however, regional geologic mapping suggests that the West fault had a postore left-lateral strike-slip displacement of ca. 35 km. Accordingly, exploration, so far unsuccessful, has been focused in an area 35 km south near the Loa River and the city of Calama. In 1989, the Mina Ministro Hales (MMH) deposit was unexpectedly discovered west of the fault, under thick gravels, only 7 km south of the main mine. A previous study at MMH had suggested that mineralization was as old as 39 Ma, hence its ores were correlated with deposits of that age near Calama. Our recent U-Pb and Re-Os dating indicates that MMH mineralization was formed between 35 and 31 Ma, thus concurrently with Chuqui. The geochemistry of host Triassic and Eocene porphyry intrusions, ore mineralogy, and common Pb isotope ratios of hypogene sulfides at MMH and Chuqui proper are indistinguishable. Fluid inclusion data for paragenetically early porphyry assemblages at MMH closely mimic Th-salinity data from earlier studies at Chuqui, showing little or no evidence of boiling but indicating widely fluctuating confining pressures, compatible with hydraulic fracturing and fault movement during and after mineralization at a minimum initial lithostatic constraint of 5- to 8-km depth. We propose that MMH is a sheared-off portion of Chuqui, wedged in a fault cymoid loop and spared the full 35-km displacement of the West fault.

Abstract.—Habitat for striped bass Morone saxatilis, hybrid striped bass, salmonids, and other coolwater and coldwater fishes can be limiting in stratified reservoirs during summer and early autumn as surface water temperatures increase above tolerable ranges and deeper waters are depleted of dissolved oxygen (DO). Usable habitat can be increased in these reservoirs using oxygen diffusers to increase DO concentrations in the cooler, deeper waters. Several oxygen diffuser systems are currently in operation. Some of the systems were originally designed to increase DO in hydropower reservoir releases, but have also created fish habitat as a result of the diffuser system’s efficient oxygen transfer capabilities in the reservoir. Several other systems are operated to improve water quality in the reservoir for water supply, and two systems have specific fish habitat maintenance goals. Improvements in DO for fish have been obtained at Calaveras Reservoir, California by the San Francisco Public Utility Commission, and fish studies at this reservoir are currently underway. In North Twin Lake, Washington, the Colville Confederated Tribes and Washington State University have documented improved trout habitat and reduced sulfide concentrations. Oxygenation of cool, deep water is now a proven technology that can alleviate summertime thermal and oxygen stress on striped bass and hybrid striped bass and can minimize habitat-related mortalities. The technology is being implemented specifically for striped bass with a large installation in J. Strom Thurmond Reservoir, South Carolina, for the Savannah District of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.

"Timing and Nature of Mineralization and Associated Hydrothermal Alteration at the Öksüt High-Sulfidation Epithermal Au-Cu Deposit (Kayseri Province, Central Anatolia)." Abstract:
ABSTRACT Öksüt is a breccia-hosted high-sulfidation epithermal gold-copper deposit, situated within the Develidağ Volcanic Complex in south-central Anatolia. The volcanic complex, exposed on the northern edge of the Tauride range, is largely made up of late Miocene andesitic to dacitic porphyries, covered by a succession of Pliocene basalts and basaltic andesites. A series of N-S- to NNW-trending faults of the regional central Anatolian fault zone partly cut and border the volcanic complex to the east and west. Mineralization at Öksüt follows a predominant north-northwest trend that correlates well with the regional stress regime. The bulk of the mineralization occurs in two domains, the Keltepe and Güneytepe orebodies, where steeply dipping and pervasively supergene oxidized breccia zones exploited funnel-shaped diatreme conduits within pyroxene andesite porphyry. Emplacement of these phreatomagmatic breccias was largely controlled by vertical to subvertical faults with dominant normal-slip components. Mineralized breccias comprise a central zone of residual vuggy to massive silica alteration, laterally and vertically grading into zones of quartz-alunite and quartz-alunite-clay alteration. These silica-altered breccias contain relatively high gold grades, whereas significant mineralization was also encountered in quartz-alunite-clay alteration. In the oxide zone, gold occurs in native form, whereas in the hypogene zone it occurs both as native gold or within pyrite-enargite accompanied by marcasite, and rare chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite. To the west of Keltepe and in Güneytepe, at depth, the altered and mineralized breccias pass into barren zones of argillic and then into biotite-magnetite ± K-feldspar ± anhdyrite alteration, the latter typical of porphyry-type systems. Sporadic zones of calc-silicate alteration, represented by grossularite, diopside, and vesuvianite, are also present. Three 40Ar/39Ar ages obtained from alunite and illite range between 5.7 to 5.5 Ma and are concordant with previously reported U-Pb and 40Ar/39Ar ages (~6–5.5 Ma) from host pyroxene andesite porphyry. This suggests that high-sulfidation alteration and mineralization developed contemporaneously with postsubduction magmatism at the Develidağ Volcanic Complex, in relationship to regional E-W-directed extension that commenced at ~6 Ma. Our new ages also confirm Öksüt as the youngest epithermal gold deposit discovered to date in Anatolia, and possibly in the entire Western Tethyan metallogenic belt. The topographic prominence of the volcanic edifice combined with high permeability of the breccias favored deep supergene sulfide oxidation, thereby rendering Öksüt economically viable. Gold encapsulated in hypogene sulfides was liberated during the oxidation, whereas the copper was leached to produce a discontinuous chalcocite- and covellite-dominated enrichment zone, up to 50 m thick, at the base of oxidation.

Abstract:
The South Carolina Institute for Energy Studies (SCIES), administratively housed at Clemson University, has participated in the advancement of combustion turbine technology for nearly a decade. The Advanced Gas Turbine Systems Research (AGTSR) program has been administered by SCIES for the U. S. DOE. Under the supervision of the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), the AGTSR has brought together the engineering departments at the leading U.S. universities and U.S. combustion turbine developers to assist in providing a solid base of knowledge for the future generations of gas turbines. In the AGTSR program, an Industrial Review Board (IRB) of gas turbine companies and related organizations defines needed gas turbine research. SCIES prepares yearly requests for university proposals that address the research needs identified by the IRB organizations. IRB technical representatives evaluate the university proposals and review progress reports from the awarded university projects. Seventy-five (75) AGTSR university projects have been awarded in the areas of gas turbine combustion, aerodynamics/heat transfer, and materials. An overview of recent AGTSR university projects is given in this paper and research results from several of the projects are described in greater detail.

Abstract:
The meaningful United States regulation of onshore oil and gas field waste/soil commenced in the mid 1980’s in response to a series of state, federal, industry and international initiatives. Most initiatives centered on the design, construction and operation of earthen pits used in the exploration and production of oil and gas (E&P). Prior to this time, earthen pits were constructed as needed by the operator and used in all phases of E&P activity. Chief concerns of the regulators were focused on what had gone into pits historically, what was going into them currently and was the E&P exemption excluding high volume E&P wastes from the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations justified. Several investigations, including the comprehensive field study by the Environmental Protection Agency in 1987, determined E&P wastes are ostensibly non-hazardous. EPA concluded regulation of E&P wastes under RCRA Subtitle C was not necessary. To this day there is no U. S. federal regulatory program with exclusive jurisdiction over exempt E&P wastes. Other studies, primarily industry and academic, focusing on land limiting constituents, management practices and pit closure strategies revealed sodium salts and petroleum hydrocarbon in the form of diesel range organics were the primary limiting constituents. One state, Louisiana, adopted the technical aspects of these studies and developed a comprehensive regulation known as Statewide Order 29-B, which was based on the concept of limiting constituents and defined post closure performance standards. These standards limited salinity, sodicity, total metals and total petroleum hydrocarbon (oil & grease) with values varying with respect to landform, land use and closure technique. Other states have adopted some of the concepts and criteria advanced under 29-B but none are as comprehensive. Obviously there is a need to control what goes into pits and how pits should be closed. The industry would best be served by adopting the concepts and standards set forth in the Louisiana 29-B regulation. A few of the provisions could be changed to make it more palatable to industry without sacrificing the protection afforded human and animal health, safety and the environment. Internationally, particularly countries in South America embraced USEPA protocol for testing characteristically hazardous wastes, but 1) without the framework to handle the relatively large volume of non-hazardous E&P waste generated and 2) no regulations or protocols for on-site waste management. Several operators, although partners with state owned oil companies, on their own volition, applied the concepts and standards under Louisiana’s 29-B to rainforests in South America and rice paddies in Indonesia. Canada and European oil and gas producing countries have developed stringent standards not based on science, which favor costly treatment technologies. Generally, these countries prohibit cost effective on-site waste management and closure techniques. This paper traces the evolution of waste/soil remediation within the United States and internationally. We trace the progress as a function of time; the impetus for regulation; and probable future controls.
