Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Scholars increasingly recognize the need to conduct research on grand global challenges. Among them, climate change is one of the most threatening concerns. Accordingly, entrepreneurship scholars consider sustainable entrepreneurship – which is parallelly maintaining economic, social, and environmental benefits – as a solution to many environmental challenges. However, sustainable entrepreneurship encompasses many additional challenges compared to other profit-seeking opportunities because it has to create social and environmental values. Therefore, the objective of the dissertation looks at sustainable entrepreneurship's entry and exit dynamics. To do so, we conducted three studies. First, we investigate how perceived attributes of the green market mediate the relationship between individuals’ sustainability orientation and entrepreneurial intentions. Second, we examine whether exit decisions depend upon the interconnectedness of personal and environmental factors. Third, we investigate how perceived barriers provoke entrepreneurial exit intentions during an entrepreneurial engagement. Across three studies, we found consistent support that whether entry or exit, sustainable entrepreneurship involves specific enablers and inhibitors that result in action or inaction for sustainable entrepreneurial endeavors. The dissertation contributes to advancing the theoretical knowledge about sustainable entrepreneurship by determining entrepreneurial behavior at the intersection of personal and environmental facets

Abstract:
Purpose- Entrepreneurial exit is an integral part of the entrepreneurial process. Entrepreneurs may exit their business at any given time in their entrepreneurial career and for a variety of reasons. Although the phenomenon of entrepreneurial exit has raised much interest in recent years, focus has mainly been on the anticipated massive retirement of baby boomers. Accordingly, many studies by public and private organisations have expressed concern at the lack of preparation of these entrepreneurs as their retirement from a large number of SMEs approaches. An examination of these studies reveals a lack of understanding of the decisions associated with entrepreneurial exit. The current literature on entrepreneurial exit is interested in the different options open to owners when exiting their business: public sale, sale to a competitor, liquidation/ceding, and the transmission to a third party. The latter, whether to family members, employees, or external parties, remains the preferred exit mode by entrepreneurs. Business transmission is a complex process and important gaps exist in this emergent literature. The field of entrepreneurial exit is mainly interested in decisions once already made, and not in the process itself. The objective of this thesis by article is therefore, to fill this gap by focusing on the decision-making process of exiting entrepreneurs when choosing to transmit their business. Design- A qualitative approach was privileged for this research to deepen the context, process and interaction of the decision-making process. A multiple case study was conducted with 15 SME owner-managers. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with owners and other informants in order to validate the statements and events linked to the manager’s decision-making process. Findings- The first article proposes a model inspired by strategic management literature that sets a scientific basis and new exploration angle for conducting qualitative research on the phenomenon. The insight provided complements the results obtained through quantitative research in the entrepreneurial exit field. The second article explores the possible trajectories that the decision-making process may take according to a causal versus effectual path. While causality implies rationality and analysis, effectuation, on the other hand, is a more creative approach where entrepreneurs make more space for intuition and personal judgement. To do so, this study theorizes exit behavior (causal and effectual), thus proposing a typology according to the model of the exit decision-making process. The model is validated using the collected data. Although results show the predominance of « effectual » behaviours within the exit decision-making process, complementarity between both logics does exist. Exiting entrepreneurs use both rationality and creativity/intuition to make decisions, particularly during the decision-making process leading to the transmission of their business. They are often willing to make concessions and adapt in order to reach their goal. However, results also show that exiting entrepreneurs have strong desires to things their own way, including the option of remaining active within their business. It is thus possible to state that there is more than one way to exit a business. Finally, the third article identifies a series of factors (individual, organizational, and environmental) as well as how such factors impact the decision-making process. This study reveals influence factors scarcely identified in exit literature, as well as associates determinants to specific process steps. As a whole, results support the necessity of adapting to individuals, the business structure and the environmental context. Originality – The angle used to make decisions, or the decision-making process, is a novel perspective that has been used to explain how SME managers decide to exit their business. The three articles at the heart of the thesis present different facets that help comprehend the phenomenon. Entrepreneurial exit is still emerging as a field of research and is mainly composed of quantitative studies. The qualitative method used here is not only original but also enriches both the field of entrepreneurial exit and entrepreneurial decision-making

Abstract:
This dissertation consists of three essays on employee entrepreneurship where some employees leave paid employment to start their own business. In particular I examine the antecedents of such entrepreneurial transitions from contextual and individual perspectives. In the first essay I examine why historically best performing firms generate more entrepreneurs than other firms. In thesecond essay I investigate the relationship between matching in the labor market and entrepreneurial transition of employees. The empirical setting of the first two essays is the whole population of Swedish workers from 1990 to 2007. In the third essay I investigate the effect of organizational exploration and exploitation on employee entrepreneurship in medical devices industry. The overall conclusion of this dissertation is that context matters for entrepreneurship. In addition, sorting in the labor market and fit between an employer and employee determine who becomes an entrepreneur

Abstract:
We look into the relationship between business practices and enterprise productivity using panel data with matched employer and employee information from Myanmar. The data show that micro, small, and medium-size enterprises in Myanmar typically do only a few modern business practices. Even so, through estimates of value-added functions and labour demand relations we find a positive and economically important association between business practices and productivity. The results are confirmed when we utilize employer–employee information to estimate Mincer-type wage regressions. In combination, the value-added functions and the Mincer regressions show that at least half of the productivity gain from improved business practices stems from selection effects of employment of more productive workers. This sorting channel is important to keep in mind when supporting enterprises in Myanmar’s manufacturing sector through entrepreneurial training activities. While our results indicate that implementation of more structured business practices could be a key ingredient of a private sector development strategy in Myanmar, the full effect of such a strategy may take time to materialize. Moreover, entrepreneurial training should be accompanied by labour market initiatives aimed at improving productive matches of employers and employees.

This chapter explores the long-standing puzzle of the optimal role and impact of private business in public life based on evidence from a healthcare entrepreneur in India. To realize its goal of delivering affordable, high-quality care to the indigent population in India, Narayana Health (NH) had to address a number of voids created by the absence of supporting market institutions. This was done with entrepreneurial aplomb, sometimes even catalysing governmental action, by becoming a trusted intermediary to providers of all sorts of factor inputs who would otherwise not make their services available. This partial private provision of public infrastructure by NH illustrates how social investments by resource-constrained entrepreneurs in emerging markets can yield both private and public benefits.

Abstract:
The chapter examines strategic orientation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in response to the growing demand for the generation of new knowledge concerning strategic behaviours of SMEs. Drawing from both strategic management and entrepreneurial marketing literature and using models and recent theoretical developments from published research based in small firms, it explains the sorts of activities, attitudes and behaviours which occur in SMEs and suggests that different strategic orientations generate either increased or decreased profitability and firm growth. It also presents a conceptual model which serves to illustrate the competitive strategic typologies adopted by SMEs and the interrelationship between these strategic typologies and an Entrepreneurial Marketing Orientation (EMO) dimension of SMEs. The authors propose that the dominant strategic orientations of SMEs could be predicted by application of this model in future studies. The chapter concludes with ecommendations and suggestions for future research directions.

Abstract:
The entrepreneurial opportunity is found in the different segments such as accommodation, recreation and entertainment, transportation, and travel services. Hotels, restaurants, tour operators, and travel agents have been providing direct business opportunities to people at different levels of the local community. Bihar is a land of enlightenment and salvation. Bihar occupied an important position in the early history of India. Bihar is the birthplace of two religions (i.e., Buddhism and Jainism) and the birthplace of Guru Govind Singh, the 10th guru of the Sikh religion. There are many holy places for Hindus and important places for the Gandhian movement. Bihar is rich in spiritual, heritage, cultural, and recreation places. The total share of tourism is 11.99% of Bihar SGDP and the 11th largest wage earner in revenue with $3.13 billion in 2017. Tourism is one of the economic areas where the entrepreneurial sector requires a high level of involvement: diversification of tourism products and services is required to meet the rising demand for new sorts of tourism demands.

Abstract:
In the literature, it is strongly claimed by some studies that the content of a vision statement may be an appropriate mean to reach some desired individual, group and organizational level results. In addition, the idea relating to vitality of various types of innovation for different sorts of organizations has been supported by findings of many empirical studies. However, these studies that focus on the concept organizational innovation are based on large-sized organization to a great extent. Therefore, this study empirically investigates the effects of vision statements' content on the amount of innovation in the context of Turkish “Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Abstract:
Literature relating to personality and entrepreneurship has focused primarily on personality characteristics of traditional entrepreneurs. The focus of this study was on personality characteristics and temperaments of potential ICT entrepreneurs. The main objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of personality characteristics as identifiers of potential ICT entrepreneurship. In order to meet this objective, the personality characteristics of the participants had to be determined. The Keirsey Temperament Sorter was used as a personality indicator, as it is a proven research instrument. Two entrepreneurial tests were used to determine entrepreneurial ability. The temperament of the individuals was ascertained, and compared to their entrepreneurial ability. The population sample used for this study was comprised of third year and honours information systems students from the University of Cape Town, and current ICT entrepreneurs. A positive relationship between the “Martian” temperaments and potential ICT entrepreneurs was found. No significant relationship between specific personality types and potential entrepreneurial ability were evident in the study. A positive connection was noticed between potential ICT entrepreneurs, and being male. Unfortunately the number of female respondents was insufficient, leading to an inconclusive result.

Abstract:
In developed countries, aging, chronic diseases, and preventive health management have been important topics of concern. Many entrepreneurial have entered the start-up market, trying to integrate design concepts related to medical institutions, wearable devices, health services, cloud computing to build a better and more convenient platform. How to realize online medical services of traditional medical institutions through a handheld user interface and provide users with friendly and reassuring medical services is a thorny problem faced by interactive designers. This study focuses on telecare systems' user experience and service mode with handheld devices. The research methodology uses the concepts of co-creation workshops and the discount usability engineering. In this study, six experts with relevant telecare or interaction knowledge were invited to participate in a co-creation workshop. A persona and customer journey map were created after the workshop. Existing applications were then used to integrate typical tasks. Participants would use the think-aloud technique to simultaneously manipulate the tasks and speak their thoughts when conducting heuristic evaluations. Researchers recorded their task operations and conduct brief interviews to help investigate their internal feelings. This stage is to sort out the relationship between the relevant stakeholders in the service process and help summarize the user's in-depth interaction needs in terms of user experience.
