Abstract:

Se adopta un nuevo enfoque geoeléctrico interpretativo mediante el uso de la técnica de sondeo eléctrico vertical (VES) con una configuración geoeléctrica de Schlumberger y la técnica de Pichgin y Habibuleave principalmente. El enfoque propuesto busca obtener datos interpretativos de resistividad aparente confiables para profundidades someras, de menos de unos10 metros. La configuración VES se adapta usando espaciamientos AB/2 pequeños, que no superan 50 m y se utiliza para caracterizar estructuras de depósitos Recientes y Cuaternarios en la región de la depresión de Al-Ghab. Los espaciados AB/2 usados en esa disposición de Schlumberger son 1, 1.3, 1.68, 2.18, 2.82, 3.66, 4.74, 6.15, 7.97, 10.33, 13.38, 17.35, 22.49, 29.15, 37.78 y 48.87 metros. Con esas estructuras se obtienen buenos registros para identificar eventos activos y neotectónicos. Las interpretaciones de los ocho grupos de datos VES adquiridos a lo largo de un perfil ubicado sobre una excavación en el área de Mehanbel, con un enfoque integrado mejorado de Pichgin y Habibuleave, brindan resultados cuantitativos calibrados que están en concordancia exacta con las posiciones reales de las estructuras Reciente y Cuaternaria. Por lo tanto, los resultados obtenidos alientan a aplicar esta configuración adaptada en otros lugares para detectar fallas activas afloradas o ciegas y otras características estructurales en depósitos Recientes y Cuaternarios. Las mejores ubicaciones para la excavación de zanjas utilizadas para estudiar las nuevas características tectónicas activas se decidirán a la luz de las imágenes geoeléctricas del subsuelo obtenidas por este enfoque integrado, a lo largo de diferentes perfiles en un área de estudio determinada.

Este trabajo habla de cómo podríamos utilizar la práctica artística en tanto metodología visual-estética para responder críticamente a la sociedad del espectáculo y a la crisis del hombre unidimensional en la era de las redes sociales. Es por medio de una serie multidisciplinar que hemos encontrado caminos para desacelerar la velocidad con que vemos -sentimos las imágenes, proceso que nos ha llevado a identificarlo como una ruta afectiva-política para recuperar la mirada entendida como aquello que enlaza nuestra subjetividad al mundo.Así mismo, se reflexiona sobre los efectos de las redes sociales en nuestra sensibilidad hacia las fotografía. Si bien autores como Guy Debord y Herbert Marcuse no aparecen directamente como referencias teóricas en el texto, su presencia y vitalidad están activas en los estudios visuales posicionados desde el legado de una teoría crítica cada vez más necesaria ante la crisis que atraviesa la mirada en una era donde predomina el ocularcentrismo y en él se configuran los diversos regímenes de visualidad a los que, justamente, este trabajo busca responder desde un posicionamiento antivisual y post-fotográfico. El resultado de la investigación es un cuerpo de obra que parte de la estética antivisual para proponer estrategias para recuperar la mirada y desacelerar el tiempo.

Phase-coded sequences are widely studied as the transmitted signals of active sonars. Recently, several design methods have been developed to generate phased-coded sequences satisfying specific aperiodic or periodic autocorrelation sidelobe level metrics. In this paper, based on the majorization–minimization strategy and the squared iterative acceleration scheme, we propose a method to generate sequences with the periodic weighted integrated sidelobe level metric. Numerical simulations illustrate that the proposed method can effectively suppress the periodic autocorrelation sidelobe levels in specific time lags. Compared with other sequence design methods satisfying the periodic weighted integrated sidelobe level metric, our method improves the computational efficiency significantly. In addition, the proposed sequence demonstrates better matched filter performance in specific range intervals compared with its counterpart. The results suggest that the method could be applied as a valid and real-time design method for transmitted signals of active sonars.

Abstract:

En este estudio, se presenta los resultados obtenidos de la investigación magnetotelúrica (MT) llevada a cabo en abril de 2018 en las principales fallas y sistemas de fallas identificados a lo largo del valle del Cusco, sur del Perú. El perfil magnetotelúrico tiende en dirección suroeste-noreste (SO-NE) y consiste de 14 sondeos MT, con espaciamientos de 500 a 700 m. En cada ubicación, se registraron datos de 10 a 24 horas, a fin de medir la resistividad del subsuelo a una profundidad aproximada de 6 km. Estos datos fueron convertidos en un modelo de resistividad eléctrica del subsuelo utilizando un algoritmo de inversión 2-D. El modelo de resistividad eléctrica fue interpretado sobre la base de los estudios geológicos y estructurales. Considerando que las zonas de fallas han mostrado respuestas conductivas en otros estudios, nosotros interpretamos que las zonas conductivas, identificadas en el modelo de resistividad eléctrica, sugieren una significativa correlación con las trazas de las fallas del valle del Cusco. Asimismo, se muestra por primera vez la geometría en profundidad (~6 km) de un sistema extensivo de fallas imbricadas que consisten en fallas normales y activas. Esto también nos invita a considerar a la falla Cusco como una estructura tectónica activa, que podría incrementar el peligro sísmico en el valle del Cusco.

Abstract:

Loudness which is one of the psycho-acoustic metrics is an important parameter in the model of sound quality objective evaluation. In this paper, based on two standards, two computational procedures of loudness were programmed and verified respectively, and these verified results showed that the two computational procedures are stable and reliable. Based on these characteristics of specific loudness curve, control strategy which selectively attenuates the peak values of specific loudness is proposed to solve the problem of active noise control inside vehicle. A computer simulation with this strategy is conducted and the changes of specific loudness and loudness before and after active noise control are analyzed. The results indicate that it is significant to reduce the peak values of specific loudness by using this control strategy, and then the reduction in loudness of noise is up to 1.5 sones.

Abstract:

República Dominicana, Costa Rica y Argentina fueron el escenario para este sondeo realizado por un equipo interdisciplinario que cuenta con investigadores en los tres países mencionados, quienes se interesaron por conocer algunas de las condiciones que viven las personas mayores (PM) tras el distanciamiento social por la COVID-19 impuesto a partir del 19 marzo 2020. El objetivo fue auscultar a partir de la pandemia si las PM mantienen una vida activa y cuál es el nivel de utilización de las TIC para establecer relaciones, actividades de aprendizaje, recreación y estado emocional. La metodología consistió en recolección de datos utilizando la herramienta de gestión de formularios de Google Forms y para la presentación se utilizó la herramienta R Studio versión 1.3.959, para equipos Apple. La información sobre aprendizaje y estado emocional se complementó con registro anecdótico de asistentes al Programa de Atención Integral de la Persona Adulta Mayor (PAIPAM) de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. Los resultados arrojaron que las PM de esta muestra se mantienen activas realizando tareas del hogar, y utilizan TIC para comunicarse con familia y amigos, aprender nuevos conocimientos y recreación. La pandemia impactó emocionalmente a más de la mitad de la población estudiada, por lo que garantizar las condiciones que faciliten las relaciones vinculares y nuevos aprendizajes en esta época, resulta indispensable. Se concluye así la importancia que las TIC tienen para las PM y la necesidad de crear espacios de capacitación tecnológica que refuercen relaciones intergeneracionales e interpersonales y políticas públicas que lo posibiliten.

Abstract A simple approach is presented to implement an active aperture radar with a constrained beam-forming network that is adequate enough to generate multiple beams for atmospheric wind profiling. In this approach, elements of the antenna array are fed directly by dedicated transceiver modules, which are realized with commercially available communication components, making them low cost. A passive 2D beam-forming network distributes the exciter output signal and feeds the transceivers with appropriate phase distribution to generate different beams. This configuration, which is a simplified active array, eliminates the feed loss and achieves the best signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), thereby increases range coverage. Consequently, this scheme allows for a smaller antenna size when compared to a conventional passive array system, for the given range performance, and makes the wind profiler compact and transportable. A 1280-MHz, 64-element simplified active array radar has been developed, successfully validated, and is being operated at Gadanki, a tropical station in south India. Measured winds are in good agreement with those obtained with a collocated GPS sonde technique. This paper presents the configuration and sample results of the system.

Las diversas actividades que realiza un bombero durante su trabajo son muy amplias, y a su vez lo exponen a todo tipo de situaciones peligrosas. Condiciones relacionadas con la organización, el contenido del trabajo, la realización de la tarea, las relaciones interper- sonales, entre otras; pueden afectar tanto al desarrollo del trabajo como la salud del trabajador; es lo que se conoce como factores psicosociales laborales. En tal sentido, la presente es una investigación donde se pretendió determinar la influencia que tienen los fac- tores psicosociales laborales sobre el desempeño ocupacional de los bomberos. La muestra estuvo conformada por 47 profesionales, a quienes se les aplicó el cuestionario para evaluar factores psicosociales laborales, ISTAS 21, en su versión corta adaptada para Vene- zuela, y una entrevista semi-estructurada para evaluar el Desempeño Ocupacional (CMDO). Resultados: Los bomberos que reflejaron niveles altos e intermedios de riesgo en el cuestionario, reportaron en la entrevista que su ejecución en algunas áreas del Desempeño Ocupacional como auto-cuidado, accesibilidad, productividad, manejo de las actividades instrumentales de la vida diaria, actividades académicas, actividades recreativas activas y socialización, resultaron ser insatisfactorias, debido a la falta de tiempo, difícil acceso a su lugar de trabajo, la inconformidad con sus salarios, escases de recursos para prestar un buen servicio.

Abstract:

Un modelo digital de elevación de Bahía de Banderas y su continuación costa afuera hasta la Trinchera Mesoamericana se construye con 6872 sondeos batimétricos. Se identifican dos nuevas cuencas costa afuera y también varias fallas, hasta ahora no reportadas, dentro de la bahía. El flanco sur del Cañón de Banderas es considerablemente más empinado que el flanco norte. Esta asimetría, junto con la actividad sísmica presente, lleva a proponer que el Cañón de Banderas tiene una estructura de semi-graben del tipo de crecimiento de falla, con arrastre inverso, que se origina en una cuenca de extensión en la dirección N-S. El cañón se divide en dos secciones orientadas en direcciones diferentes. La sección más antigua del cañón, orientada E-O pertenece probablemente al Mioceno Tardío y es la que corresponde al semi-graben; no obstante se presentan evidencias que sugieren que la traza de la falla podría extenderse hacia el oeste a lo largo de un tramo adicional al del semi-graben, hasta la Trinchera Mesoamericana. La sección del Cañón de Banderas orientada al NE, que continúa en el Valle de Banderas, se identifi ca como una sección más joven de la estructura. La porción antigua y la joven del cañón parecen estar activas actualmente en forma simultánea. Un grupo de fallas con rumbo NE parece estar también asociado al cambio de dirección del cañón. Estos resultados apoyan la hipótesis de que el Cañón de Banderas tiene estructura de semi-graben, y refuerzan la idea de que es el límite entre la región al norte del cañón, la que experimentó una extensión en el Mioceno, y la región al sur, la que no sufrió dicha extensión.

Abstract:

Marine acoustic sources are widely used for geophysical imaging, oceanographic sensing, and communicating with and tracking objects or robotic vehicles in the water column. Under the U.S. Marine Mammal Protection Act and similar regulations in several other countries, the impact of controlled acoustic sources is assessed based on whether the sound levels received by marine mammals meet the criteria for harassment that causes certain behavioral responses. This study describes quantitative factors beyond received sound levels that could be used to assess how marine species are affected by many commonly deployed marine acoustic sources, including airguns, high-resolution geophysical sources (e.g., multibeam echosounders, sidescan sonars, subbottom profilers, boomers, and sparkers), oceanographic instrumentation (e.g., acoustic doppler current profilers, split-beam fisheries sonars), and communication/tracking sources (e.g., acoustic releases and locators, navigational transponders). Using physical criteria about the sources, such as source level, transmission frequency, directionality, beamwidth, and pulse repetition rate, we divide marine acoustic sources into four tiers that could inform regulatory evaluation. Tier 1 refers to high-energy airgun surveys with a total volume larger than 1500 in3 (24.5 L) or arrays with more than 12 airguns, while Tier 2 covers the remaining low/intermediate energy airgun surveys. Tier 4 includes most high-resolution geophysical, oceanographic, and communication/tracking sources, which are considered unlikely to result in incidental take of marine mammals and therefore termed de minimis. Tier 3 covers most non-airgun seismic sources, which either have characteristics that do not meet the de minimis category (e.g., some sparkers) or could not be fully evaluated here (e.g., bubble guns, some boomers). We also consider the simultaneous use of multiple acoustic sources, discuss marine mammal field observations that are consistent with the de minimis designation for some acoustic sources, and suggest how to evaluate acoustic sources that are not explicitly considered here.

Abstract:

Abstract An L-band radar wind profiler was established at National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Gadanki, India (13.5°N, 79.2°E), to provide continuous high-resolution wind measurements in the lower atmosphere. This system utilizes a fully active array and passive beam-forming network. It operates at 1280 MHz with peak output power of 1.2 kW. The active array comprises a 16 × 16 array of microstrip patch antenna elements fed by dedicated solid-state transceiver modules. A 2D modified Butler beam-forming network is employed to feed the active array. The combination of active array and passive beam-forming network results in enhanced signal-to-noise ratio and simple beam steering. This system also comprises a direct intermediate frequency (IF) digital receiver and pulse compression scheme, which result in more flexibility and enhanced height coverage. The scientific objectives of this profiler are to study the atmospheric boundary layer dynamics and precipitation. Observations made by this profiler have been validated using a collocated GPS sonde. This paper presents the detailed system description, including sample observations for clear-air and precipitation cases.

Frequency-modulated pulse trains can be applied in active sonar systems to improve the performance of conventional transmitted waveforms. Recently, two pulse trains have been widely researched as the transmitted waveforms for active sonars. The LFM-Costas pulse train was formed by modulating the linear frequency-modulated (LFM) waveform via the Costas sequence to remove the Doppler ambiguity of LFM pulses. The generalized sinusoidal frequency-modulated (GSFM) waveform, another frequency-modulated pulse train, achieved an ideal ambiguity function shape with thumbtack mainlobe. In this paper, we focus on constructing an optimization model to optimize the LFM-Costas and GSFM pulse trains with the genetic algorithm. The pulse trains can be improved on properties of both ambiguity function and correlations between sub-pulses. The optimized pulse trains are proven to have better detection performance than those of the initial pulse trains, including the lower sidelobe levels of ambiguity function, as well as lower cross-correlation property. Moreover, it is affirmed that the reverberation suppression performance of pulse trains has also been improved through the optimization model.

Abstract:

Active sonars using linear frequency-modulated (LFM) continuous waveforms are typically processed in sub-bands to facilitate high target range update rates. Target range-rate is then estimated using incoherently processed matched-filter outputs from each sub-band as input to a tracker. Target returns can easily be confused with clutter because sub-band width is typically chosen to avoid decoherence caused by target and/or platform motion. In this paper, we present methods for joint range-velocity estimation which allows for coherent combination of sub-band outputs and accounts for target/platform motion. The approach involves pre-filtering beamformed sub-band outputs using the transmitted LFM waveform, match-filtering each frequency-domain pre-filtered sub-band under a range-velocity hypothesis, and coherently combining the results. A maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) of range-velocity is formed which involves adaptively suppressing clutter and noise using an estimate of sub-band clutter covariance matrices. Simulation results are presented which indicate that joint range-velocity estimation using coherent processing across sub-bands offers a significant improvement over conventional methods and allows for more flexible selection of sub-band processing bandwidth. Moreover, the approach lends itself to handling the case of partial coherence across sub-bands and offers the potential for improved discrimination of slowly moving targets versus clutter discretes. Most marine mammal strandings coincident with naval sonar exercises have involved Cuvier's beaked whales ( Ziphius cavirostris ). We recorded animal movement and acoustic data on two tagged Ziphius and obtained the first direct measurements of behavioural responses of this species to mid-frequency active (MFA) sonar signals. Each recording included a 30-min playback (one 1.6-s simulated MFA sonar signal repeated every 25 s); one whale was also incidentally exposed to MFA sonar from distant naval exercises. Whales responded strongly to playbacks at low received levels (RLs; 89–127 dB re 1 µPa): after ceasing normal fluking and echolocation, they swam rapidly, silently away, extending both dive duration and subsequent non-foraging interval. Distant sonar exercises (78–106 dB re 1 µPa) did not elicit such responses, suggesting that context may moderate reactions. The observed responses to playback occurred at RLs well below current regulatory thresholds; equivalent responses to operational sonars could elevate stranding risk and reduce foraging efficiency.

Abstract:

A variety of mission equipment is mounted and utilized on UUVs (unmanned underwater vehicles) for the development of marine resources and underwater searching for military purposes. For exploration of a wide area, it is advantageous to use a towed underwater platform, and for precision exploration to a specific location, to use an active mobile ROV (remotely operated vehicles). Since the TUV (towed underwater vehicle) moves according to the speed of the towing vessel, it cannot be operated if the vessel is stationary or the speed is low. Therefore, TUVs do not have equipment that is useful at low speeds, such as optical cameras or forward looking sonars. If a TUV capable of active movement such as stationary or low-speed operation is developed, it can search a wide area and then accurately search for a specific location, with one platform mounting various mission equipment. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the control model for a prototype of this novel TUV, and propose a depth and posture control algorithm to which the model is applied. The proposed TUV and control algorithm were verified by experiments under the flow rate environment in the circulating water channel.

Abstract:

Controlled exposure experiments (CEEs) have demonstrated that naval pulsed active sonar (PAS) can induce costly behavioral responses in cetaceans similar to antipredator responses. New generation continuous active sonars (CAS) emit lower amplitude levels but more continuous signals. We conducted CEEs with PAS, CAS and no-sonar control on free-ranging sperm whales in Norway. Two panels blind to experimental conditions concurrently inspected acoustic-and-movement-tag data and visual observations of tagged whales and used an established severity scale (0–9) to assign scores to putative responses. Only half of the exposures elicited a response, indicating overall low responsiveness in sperm whales. Responding whales (10 of 12) showed more, and more severe responses to sonar compared to no-sonar. Moreover, the probability of response increased when whales were previously exposed to presence of predatory and/or competing killer or long-finned pilot whales. Various behavioral change types occurred over a broad range of severities (1–6) during CAS and PAS. When combining all behavioral types, the proportion of responses to CAS was significantly higher than no-sonar but not different from PAS. Responses potentially impacting vital rates i.e., with severity ≥4, were initiated at received cumulative sound exposure levels (dB re 1 μPa2 s) of 137–177 during CAS and 143–181 during PAS.

El objetivo del presente trabajo es divulgar la satisfactoria experiencia de los aprendices durante su participaciónen esta estrategia pedagógica; para la escritura del presente artículo se aplicó una metodología de enfoque cualitativo, con tipo de investigación experiencial, aplicando un instrumento de sondeo y caracterizaciónde los semilleristas activos e inactivos, como parte de los resultados se tomaron como base los trabajos a cerca de la importancia de los semilleros, el porqué de los semilleros, la importancia de la formación en los semilleros y los semilleros una esperanza para la paz, de aquí se muestran los totales de las participaciones y la producción a lo largo del periodo 2018-2021, además de las métricas de un par de videos producidos como evidencia para divulgar la experiencia de un aprendiz y motivar a los demás jóvenes a vincularse al mismo; se concluye que la experiencia obtenida al aprender a investigar mejoro la competencia de promover la interacción de los aprendices consigo mismo, con los demás y con la naturaleza en los contextos laboral y social y que la experiencia en el semillero de investigación es un factor diferenciador a la hora de la vinculación y desempeño en el sector productivo.

Abstract:

The effect of active sonars on marine mammal behaviour is a topic of considerable interest and scientific investigation. Some whales, including the largest species (blue whales, Balaenoptera musculus ), can be impacted by mid-frequency (1–10 kHz) military sonars. Here we apply complementary experimental methods to provide the first experimentally controlled measurements of behavioural responses to military sonar and similar stimuli for a related endangered species, fin whales ( Balaenoptera physalus ). Analytical methods include: (i) principal component analysis paired with generalized additive mixed models; (ii) hidden Markov models; and (iii) structured expert elicitation using response severity metrics. These approaches provide complementary perspectives on the nature of potential changes within and across individuals. Behavioural changes were detected in five of 15 whales during controlled exposure experiments using mid-frequency active sonar or pseudorandom noise of similar frequency, duration and source and received level. No changes were detected during six control (no noise) sequences. Overall responses were more limited in occurrence, severity and duration than in blue whales and were less dependent upon contextual aspects of exposure and more contingent upon exposure received level. Quantifying the factors influencing marine mammal responses to sonar is critical in assessing and mitigating future impacts.

Abstract:

Introduction : ce travail a pour objectif principal de stabiliser une nanoémulsion de Pickering avec des nanoparticules de Mg(OH)2. Dans cette étude, nous nous sommes focalisés sur la stabilité d’une nanoémulsion de Pickering et sa caractérisation physico-chimique. Matériel et Méthodes : Les nanoparticules stabilisantes composées d'hydroxyde de magnésium ont été obtenues par une méthode de nano-précipitation en présence de PEG-12000. Une nanoémulsion Huile- dans-Eau de Pickering stabilisée par des nanoparticules de Mg(OH)2 a été formulée selon un processus à haute énergie, à l'aide d'une sonde de sonication. L'approche expérimentale a exploré l'impact de tous les paramètres de formulation, composition et taille des nanoparticules de Mg(OH)2, sur les propriétés physico-chimiques de la nanoémulsion de Pickering. Le système a été caractérisé par diffusion dynamique d’un faisceau Laser Hélium-Néon (DLS) et par microscopie électronique à transmission. Résultats et Discussion : Les résultats ont montré la formulation d’une nanoémulsion de Pickering Huile-dans-Eau stable. La caractérisation au DLS a montré des tailles de nanoparticules comprises entre 21 et 45 nm. Les résultats ont également montré des nano-gouttelettes d’émulsion d’une dimension comprise entre 100 et 300 nm au DLS. Cette gamme de taille était fonction des nanoparticules stabilisantes. La taille des nano-gouttelettes d’émulsion a été confirmée par microscopie électronique à transmission. La caractérisation physico-chimique a aussi montré que le potentiel zêta des nano- gouttelettes était fonction du pH du milieu dispersant. Conclusion : Cette nanoémulsion de Pickering peut offrir des applications intéressantes dans la réalisation de systèmes à libération contrôlée de substances actives.
