Abstract:
Sulphate attack of concrete and cement composites comprises sulphate ions migration into the material porous space and their following reaction with hydration products in the presence of water. Newly formed compounds initiate filling of porous space and volume expansion. Sulphate corrosion phenomenon still belongs to the main mechanism affecting the durability and service life of concrete structures. This paper deals with the investigation of sulphate resistance of two types of High Performance Concrete (HPC) exposed for 168 days to sodium sulphate water solution and reference environment of distilled water. Corrosive action is monitored at chosen time periods non-destructively, i.e. using measurement of length and mass changes, basic physical characteristics and dynamic moduli. Additionally, destructive tests of mechanical parameters are realised. For samples immersed in distilled water, improvement in mechanical strength is observed for the both studied HPCs. In case of HPC C I containing crushed aggregate, the improvement of mechanical resistivity is observed for samples exposed to sulphate solution for 140 days only. For other researched period of sulphate exposure, mechanical strength decreased in comparison with the reference values. On the other hand, HPC C II exhibited mechanical resistivity to sulphate action in all examined time periods of sulphate solution exposure.

Full text
Abstract:
We present two different approaches for the numerical solution of fractional optimal control problems (FOCPs) based on a spectral method using Chebyshev polynomials. The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. The first approach follows the paradigm “optimize first, then discretize” and relies on the approximation of the necessary optimality conditions in terms of the associated Hamiltonian. In the second approach, the state equation is discretized first using the Clenshaw and Curtis scheme for the numerical integration of nonsingular functions followed by the Rayleigh-Ritz method to evaluate both the state and control variables. Two illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the suggested approaches.

Abstract:
Anodic and spontaneous corrosion of different types of stainless steel (AISI 304L, AISI 316L and 2205 DSS) in phosphate-buffered saline solution (PBS, pH = 7.4) at 37 °C (i.e., in simulated physiological solution in the human body) were examined using open circuit potential measurements, linear and cyclic polarization, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy methods. After the anodic and spontaneous corrosion, the surface of the tested samples was investigated by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EDS analysis. It has been established that the tendency of the examined steel materials towards local corrosion decreases in the order: AISI 304L < AISI 316L < 2205 DSS. Namely, the possibility of repassivation and the resistance to local corrosion increases in the same order. The corrosion resistance of steel samples at open circuit potential is a consequence of forming a natural oxide film with a bi-layer structure and consists of an inner barrier and an outer porous film. The inner barrier film has a small thickness and extremely high resistance, while the outer porous film is much thicker but also has significantly lower resistance. The inner barrier layer mainly prevents corrosion of examined steel samples in order: AISI 304L < AISI 316L < 2205 DSS. Light microscopy and SEM/EDS analysis after pitting and spontaneous corrosion showed damage on the AISI 304L and AISI 316L surface, while the surface of 2205 DSS was almost undamaged by corrosion.

Abstract:
A hexaaluminate support was prepared by a co-precipitation method, and a metal (Cu, Pt, or Ir) was impregnated on the support to prepare a powdered catalyst. After that, organic and inorganic binders were added to the powdery catalyst and then pellets were formed. The so-formed catalysts were heat-treated at 1200°C, and their physicochemical properties were analyzed by N2-adsorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorenscence (XRF), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The decomposition activity of the catalysts on an ammonium dinitramide (ADN)-based liquid propellant was evaluated repeatedly, and the effects of catalyst composition and morphology on low temperature decomposition activity and durability were investigated. It was confirmed that the Cu-hexa-pellet, Pt-hexa-pellet, and Ir-hexa-pellet catalysts could be recovered and reused as a catalyst for decomposition of an ADN-based liquid monopropellant. The initial activity and the thermal stability of the Cu-hexa-pellet catalyst for the decomposition of ADN-based liquid monopropellants were better than for the other catalysts. The better activity of the Cu-hexa-pellet catalyst seems to be because the dispersion of the copper was higher than the metal dispersion in the other two catalysts.

Abstract:
This article summarizes the results of a research study that was focused on the possibility of removing Cr (VI) from aqueous solution, using low-cost waste biomaterial in a batch mode. A set of seven biosorbents was used: Fomitopsis pinicola, a mixture of cones, peach stones, apricot stones, Juglans regia shells, orange peels, and Merino sheep wool. Three grain fractions (fr. 1/2, fr. 0.5/1.0, and fr. 0/0.5 mm) of biosorbents were studied. The aim was to find the most suitable biosorbent that can be tested with real samples. The influence of other factors on the course of biosorption was studied as well (chemical activation of the biosorbent, pH value, rotation speed during mixing, temperature, and the influence of biosorbent concentration). The use of chemical activation and adjustment of the pH to 1.1 to 2.0 make it possible to increase their sorption capacity and, for some biosorbents, to shorten the exposure times. Two kinetic models were used for the analysis of the experimental data, to explain the mechanism of adsorption and its possible speed control steps: pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model seems to be the most suitable for the description of the experimental data. The thermodynamic parameters suggest that the biosorption was endothermic and spontaneous. In the biosorption equilibrium study, the adsorption data were described by using Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms. The Langmuir model was applicable to describe the adsorption data of all biosorbents. Both models are suitable for chemically treated sheep fleece and peach stones.

Abstract:
The Shared Mobility Problems (SMP) with the rideshare concept based on sharing a vehicle are fast becoming a trend in many urban cities around the world. Examples of these problems are like ridesharing, carpooling, taxisharing, buspooling, vanpooling, and multi-modal ridesharing. This is the new way to access transportation services by those who are propelling the sharing economy, where access rather than ownership is the new norm. This paper provides a systematic review of SMP using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) method. A total of 110 papers from the last decade are selected from 12 abstracts and citation databases to be reviewed and classified. This is done based on the problem types, variants, characteristics, and solution approaches. The current trends and analysis of the survey findings are also summarised. From this systematic review, it is observed that both the time window and multi-objective problems are popular among the researchers, while the minimisation of the total cost is the main concern in the literature of the SMP. Both static and dynamic cases of the SMP are the most researched where heuristic and metaheuristic approaches are widely adopted by the researchers in the literature. Finally, challenges and suggestions for future work are discussed and highlighted.

Abstract:
We present a general method of operational nature to analyze and obtain solutions for a variety of equations of mathematical physics and related mathematical problems. We construct inverse differential operators and produce operational identities, involving inverse derivatives and families of generalised orthogonal polynomials, such as Hermite and Laguerre polynomial families. We develop the methodology of inverse and exponential operators, employing them for the study of partial differential equations. Advantages of the operational technique, combined with the use of integral transforms, generating functions with exponentials and their integrals, for solving a wide class of partial derivative equations, related to heat, wave, and transport problems, are demonstrated.

Abstract:
In this paper, we study the explicit nonlinear wave solutions and their bifurcations of the generalized Camassa–Holm equation [Formula: see text]Not only are the precise expressions of the explicit nonlinear wave solutions obtained, but some interesting bifurcation phenomena are revealed.Firstly, it is verified that k = 3/8 is a bifurcation parametric value for several types of explicit nonlinear wave solutions. When k < 3/8, there are five types of explicit nonlinear wave solutions, which are(i) hyperbolic peakon wave solution,(ii) fractional peakon wave solution,(iii) fractional singular wave solution,(iv) hyperbolic singular wave solution,(v) hyperbolic smooth solitary wave solution. When k = 3/8, there are two types of explicit nonlinear wave solutions, which are fractional peakon wave solution and fractional singular wave solution. When k > 3/8, there is not any type of explicit nonlinear wave solutions.Secondly, it is shown that there are some bifurcation wave speed values such that the peakon wave and the anti-peakon wave appear alternately.Thirdly, it is displayed that there are other bifurcation wave speed values such that the hyperbolic peakon wave solution becomes the fractional peakon wave solution, and the hyperbolic singular wave solution becomes the fractional singular wave solution.

Abstract:
The development of solid modeling to represent the geometry of designed parts and the development of parametric modeling to control the size and shape have had significant impacts on the efficiency and speed of the design process. Designers now rely on parametric solid modeling, but often are frustrated by a problem that unpredictably causes their sketches to become twisted, contorted, or take an unexpected shape. Mathematically, this problem, known as the “multiple solution problem” occurs because the dimensions and geometric constraints yield a set of non-linear equations with many roots. In practice, this situation occurs because the dimensioning and geometric constraint information given in a CAD model is not sufficient to unambiguously and flexibly specify which configuration the user desires. This paper first establishes that only explicit, independent solution selection declarations can provide a flexible mechanism that is sufficient for all situations. The paper then describes the systematic derivation of a set of “solution selector” types by considering the occurrences of multiple solutions in combinations of mutually constrained geometric entities. The result is a set of eleven basic solution selector types and two derived types that incorporate topological information. In particular, one derived type “concave/convex” is user-oriented and may prove to be particularly useful.

Some stage have been passed, using reciprocal relation to approximate boundary integral and domain integral in modified Helmholtz equation . Until, linear equation system are obtained in matrix form. MATLAB is used to calculate the solutions of Solutions of are compared between the exact solution and the numerical solution of modified Helmholtz equation. The numerical results are based on the using of three types of radial basis function to approximate domain integral, such as polinomial, poliharmonik spline and linear types. The solutions show that the polinomial and poliharmonik spline types are more stable and approach to exact solution than linear types.

Abstract:
Biochar has proven its potential in removing heavy metal ions from water. The objective of this study was to evaluate locally obtained biomass feedstocks for biochar production and their efficiency as a sorbent for aqueous lead (Pb2+) removal. The biomass feedstocks consisted of avocado seed, avocado peel, grapefruit peel, and brown seaweed, which represent agricultural and marine biomasses. The biochar materials were produced in two different methods: (1) a laboratory tube furnace at 300 °C and (2) a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) biochar maker, “BioCharlie Log”. The biochars were characterized for selected physicochemical properties, and batch adsorption tests with 10 mg Pb2+ L−1 were conducted. All biochars exhibited >90% Pb2+ removal with the avocado seed and grapefruit peel biochars being the most effective (99%) from the tube-furnace-produced biochars. BioCharlie-produced-biochars showed similar Pb2+ removal (90–97%) with brown seaweed and avocado seed biochars being the most effective (97%). Land-based biochars showed a higher carbon content (>53%) than the brown seaweed biochar (28%), which showed the highest ash content (68%). Our results suggested that oxygen-containing surface functional groups in land-based biochar and mineral (ash) fraction in marine-based biochar play a key role in Pb2+ removal.

Abstract:
AbstractNodular cast irons are used in a wide range of industrial applications, especially in the automotive industry. SiMo-type of nodular cast iron is suitable for high-temperature applications, for example the exhaust manifolds of the combustion engines; SiCu-type of nodular cast iron is used in various components of tribotechnical units. These automotive components often work in a corrosive environment. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to compare the corrosion resistance of two types of the nodular cast irons (SiMo-type and SiCu-type). Corrosion resistance was determined by the exposure immersion test at ambient temperature. Specimens of both types of nodular cast iron were immersed in 3.5 % NaCl solution (to simulate sea water) and gradually removed from the solution after 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks. Subsequently, the weight loss (g) and the average corrosion rate (g m−2 day−1) were calculated. Experimental results show that nodular cast iron alloyed by Si and Mo has higher corrosion resistance than the nodular cast iron alloyed with Si and Cu. Moreover, the mechanical properties (evaluated by tensile test, impact bending test and hardness test) and fatigue properties of both types of nodular cast iron has been compared in the paper.

Abstract:
Our paper addresses an integral model of the large electric power system optimal development. The model takes into account the age structure of the main equipment, which is divided into several types regarding its technical characteristics. This mathematical model is a system of Volterra type integral equations with variable integration limits. The system describes the balance between the given demand for electricity, the commissioning of new equipment and the dismantling of obsolete equipment, as well as the shares of different types of power plants in the total composition of the electric power system equipment. Based on the developed model, we got numerical solution to the problem of finding the optimal strategy for replacing equipment with a minimum of the cost functional. The case study is the Unified Electric Power System of Russia. Calculations of the forecast for development of the electric power system of Russia until 2050 were made using real-life data.
