Abstract:

Abstract:
A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, motile, rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain KIS83-12T, was isolated from soil of Gaui island in the Taean region of South Korea. The strain grew at 15–33 °C (optimum, 28 °C), at pH 5.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 7.0). Growth did not occur in the presence of NaCl. The strain was catalase-negative and oxidase-positive. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that KIS83-12T was most closely related to Solimonas soli DCY12T (96.9 %), Solimonas variicoloris MN28T (96.5 %), Solimonas flava CW-KD 4T (96.5 %) and Solimonas aquatica NAA16T (96.0 %), and formed a robust phyletic lineage with members of the genus Solimonas . The main isoprenoid quinone was Q-8. Major polar lipids included phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol. Fatty acids present in large and moderate amounts (>5.0 %) were summed feature 8 (C18 : 1ω7c and/or C18 : 1ω6c), C16 : 0, C16 : 1ω5c, summed feature 2 (iso-C16 : 1 I and/or C14 : 0 3-OH) and C12 : 0. The DNA G+C content was 67.9 mol%. On the basis of the taxonomic data obtained in this study, KIS83-12T represents a novel species of the genus Solimonas , for which the name Solimonas terrae sp. nov. is proposed, with KIS83-12T ( = KACC 16967T = DSM 27281T) as the type strain.

Abstract:
A bacterial strain designated NAA16T was isolated from a freshwater spring in Taiwan and was characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Strain NAA16T was aerobic, Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming and motile by means of a single polar flagellum. Growth occurred at 20–40 °C (optimum, 25 °C), at pH 7.0–8.0 (optimum, pH 7.5) and with up to 1 % NaCl (optimum, 0.5 %). Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the closest relatives of strain NAA16T were Singularimonas variicoloris MN28T, Sinobacter flavus CW-KD 4T and Solimonas soli DCY12T, with respective sequence similarities of 96.7, 96.6 and 96.2 %. Phylogenetic trees reconstructed from 16S rRNA gene or rpoB sequences (encoding the β-subunit of the RNA polymerase) revealed that the novel strain NAA16T and these three closest relatives formed an independent phylogenetic clade within the Gammaproteobacteria. Strain NAA16T contained C16 : 0, C18 : 1ω7c and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c and/or C16 : 1ω6c) as predominant fatty acids and possessed phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an uncharacterized aminophospholipid as dominant polar lipids. The major isoprenoid quinone was Q-8. The DNA G+C content of strain NAA16T was 66.2 mol%. The taxonomic relationship of strain NAA16T, Singularimonas variicoloris DSM 15731T, Sinobacter flavus DSM 18980T and Solimonas soli LMG 24014T was clarified by means of a direct experimental comparison. Based on phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic data, the descriptions of the genus Solimonas and its type species Solimonas soli are emended. Members of the genus are Gram-negative, oxidase- and catalase-positive, aerobic or facultatively anaerobic and chemo-organotrophic. Chemotaxonomically, members of the genus Solimonas possess Q-8 as the major respiratory quinone, C16 : 0 and C18 : 1ω7c as predominant fatty acids and phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and an uncharacterized aminophospholipid as dominant polar lipids; the DNA G+C content is 64.9–68.4 mol%. Phylogenetic evidence, supported by chemotaxonomic and phenotypic data, allowed us to assign strain NAA16T to the genus Solimonas within the novel species Solimonas aquatica sp. nov. (type strain NAA16T = BCRC 17835T = LMG 24500T). The reclassification of Sinobacter flavus as Solimonas flava comb. nov. (type strain CW-KD 4T = DSM 18980T = KCTC 12881T = CCTCC AB 206145T) and Singularimonas variicoloris as Solimonas variicoloris comb. nov. (type strain MN28T = DSM 15731T = LMG 22844T) is also proposed.

Abstract:
Between 1561 and 1681 several French tragedies and tragicomedies borrowed their subjects from a recent episode in the history of the Ottoman Empire. Although Solyman ou la mort de Mustapha (1639) by Jean Mairet, Ibrahim ou l’illustre bassa (1641-42) by Georges de Scudéry, and Bajazet by Jean Racine are probably the most emblematic works of this trend, they are not alone. Other authors from different literary circles and belonging to different periods also belonged to the same tradition. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the corpus of French tragedies with Oriental subjects and to determine their origins and consequences, particularly regarding the construction of plots. The answers to these questions should allow the definition of an identity for these tragedies with Ottoman subjects

Abstract:
The condensation heat transfer for R134a in the two kinds of in-tube three-dimensional (3-D) micro-fin tubes with different geometries is experimentally investigated. Based on the flow pattern observations, the flow patterns in the Soliman flow regime map are divided into two-flow regimes; one with the vapor-shear-dominant annular regime and the other with the gravitational-force-dominant stratified-wavy regime. In the annular regime, the heat transfer coefficients of the two kinds of in-tube 3-D micro-fin tubes decreases as the vapor quality decreases. The regressed condensation heat transfer correlation from the experimental data of the annular flow region is obtained. The dispersibility of the experimental data is inside the limits of ±25%. In the stratified-wavy regime, the average heat transfer coefficient of the two kinds of in-tube 3-D micro fin tubes increases as the mass flux increases and the number of micro fins in the 3-D micro-fin tube is not the controlling factor for performance of a condensation heat transfer. The regressed condensation heat transfer correlation of the stratified-wavy flow regime is experimentally obtained. The dispersibility of the experimental data is inside the limits of ±22%. Combined with the criteria of flow pattern transitions, the correlations can be used for the design of a condenser with 3-D micro fin tubes.

Abstract:
During condensation of R134a the flow patterns inside two three-dimensional (3-D) micro-fin tubes with different fin geometries were investigated. The flow patterns and their transitions were visibly observed and recorded. The experimental findings revealed the following results: a comparison of the condensation flow patterns in the 3-D micro-fin tubes with those in smooth tubes revealed no qualitative differences. The mist flow and the mist-annular flow that appeared in the smooth tube entrance region were not observed in 3-D micro-fin tubes. In the maps of the Mandhane flow regime and the Soliman flow regime, the area of annular flow region of the 3-D micro-fin tube extends towards lower Fr number range in the Soliman map and smaller vapor velocity range in the Mandhane map when compared with that of a smooth tube. The criterion of the flow regime transition between the annular flow and the wavy flow decreases from Fr = 7 to Fr = 2 in the Soliman flow regime map. However, no significant effect on the criterion for the plug flow transition was observed. The experimental data points of plug flow in the 3-D micro-fin tubes were also obtained in the same regime of smooth tube in Mandhane flow regime map. The Soliman flow regime map indicates the criterion for plug flow transition to be Fr = 0.4.

In the maps of the Mandhane flow regime and the Soliman flow regime, the area of annular flow region of the 3-D micro-fin tube extends towards lower Fr number range in the Soliman map and smaller vapor velocity range in the Mandhane map when compared with that of a smooth tube. The criterion of the flow regime transition between the annular flow and wavy flow decreases from Fr = 7 to Fr = 2 in the Soliman flow regime map.

Abstract:
In order to observe the 90° elbows performance as phase separators in an air-water two-phase flow, experimental results for the phase split which occurs at a 90° branched elbow are presented. The branched elbow geometry was varied in order to have three (branch diameter / elbow diameter) ratios and three branch inclination angles. Also the pressure was monitored at different points of the elbow with ramification in order to examine the pressure drop effect. The flow pattern upstream was mainly slug flow. First, the analysis of the main independent variables effect, (superficial velocities, branch inclination angle, ratio of diameters and pressure gradients) was carried out, then a correlation for the phase split was developed and, finally a comparison was made with data of phase separation in T junctions obtained by Azzopardi [1] and Soliman [2], as a result, a better behavior as phase separator was found for the elbow.

Abstract:
Abstract The Diagnostic Fracture Injection Test (DFIT) is widely used to get the fracture closure pressure, reservoir permeability, and reservoir pressure. Conventional methods for analyzing DFIT are based on the assumption of a vertical well but fail for horizontal wells drilled in ultra-low permeability reservoirs with potential multiple closures. There is still a significant debate about the rigorousness and validity of these techniques due to the complexity of the hydraulic fracture opening and closure process and assumptions of conventional fracture detection methods. In this study, a new signal processing approach was proposed by M.Y. Soliman, U. Ebru, F. Siddiqi, A.Rezaei, and I. Eltaleb (2019) and (2020) was extended to use the continuous wavelet transform to identify the closure time and pressure. The new method was applied to synthetic and actual field data. The synthetic data were produced using commercial fracture simulators based on fracture propagation and closure simulation principles with predefined fracture closure. To determine this closure instant, we decompose the pressure fall-off signal as the output of the fracture system into multiple levels with different frequencies using the continuous wavelet transform. This "short wavy" function is stretched or compressed and placed at many positions along the signal to be analyzed. The wavelet is then multiplied term-by-term by the signal, and each product yields a wavelet coefficient value. The signal energy is observed during the fracture closure process (pressure fall-off) and the fracture closure event is identified when the signal energy stabilizes to a minimum level. Because of the uncertainty of the real field fracture closure, a predefined simple synthetic fracture simulation with known fracture closure was used to validate the new methodology. The new continuous wavelet transform technique showed clear success without any prior assumptions or the need for additional reservoir data. The new methodology is also extended to actual field cases and showed the same success as conventional classical methods.

Virues, Claudio, Alexandra Robertson, and Emile AbouKhalil. "Best Practices in DFIT Interpretation - Comparative Analysis of 83 DFITs in the Canadian Duvernay Shale Play." In SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition. SPE, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.2118/210266-ms.

Abstract:
Abstract In September 2021, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) through a new pressure and deliverability testing directive issued new guidance for minifrac tests, also known as diagnostic fracture injection tests, to align with the current practice for conducting these tests. This paper statistically summarizes results from 83 of these DFITs, submitted by many operators from the Canadian Duvernay shale play. The main parameters analyzed were closure, reservoir pressure and permeability. This newly updated directive sets out requirements for pressure and deliverability tests. In the development of tight or unconventional reservoirs, industry moved towards horizontal wells with multistage fracture treatments using a minifrac (also referred to as DFIT or diagnostic fracture injection test), which became the more common well test in determining closure, initial reservoir pressure and permeability. In this paper, a comparison of holistic vs compliance methods descriptions for closure pressure are provided. Complete governing equations for after closure analysis methods are described in detail to permit readers to replicate all results on reservoir pressure and permeability. For closure pressure, the compliance model is compared to the holistic model that is published or commercially available. Comparisons are also provided for After Closure Analysis (ACA) models including the Soliman and Nolte methods as far as reservoir pressure and permeability are concerned. 83 field case studies are presented for horizontal wells in an unconventional shale play. The most significant findings are 1) a compliance closure pressure signature is not apparent in the analyzed DFITs, 2) closure pressure estimates, and outcomes are similar for the compliance and holistic methods 3) reservoir pressure determination differentiation using either linear or radial flow 4) PVT impact on interpretation and 5) order of magnitude difference for permeability determination on After Closure Analysis methods. The findings have direct practical implications for operators in the Canadian Duvernay shale play and analogous shale plays in USA and elsewhere. Accurate permeability estimates are needed for calculating effective fracture length and for optimizing well spacing and fracture design. Accurate closure pressure is fundamental to hydraulic fracture design and other geomechanics applications. Accurate initial reservoir pressure is important because it could be used for input for Rate Transient Analysis (RTA) for resources / reserves assessments in similar unconventional plays. The novelty of the comparative analysis is in the ability to show in unconventional shale plays how closure pressure methods compared, and the implications of using different after closure analysis methods which could be of significant benefit to a practicing engineer or well testing interpreter

Abstract:
This brief highlights how structural discrimination and social exclusion shape attitudes to COVID-19 vaccines among Roma communities in Italy, and the role trusted communal and public authorities can play in supporting vaccine uptake and tackling broader exclusions. Contradictions in the Italian state’s response to COVID-19, alongside ongoing forms of exclusion can increase Roma mistrust in state initiatives and prevent vaccine participation. This brief aims to aid and inform local government and public health authorities in Italy that serve populations inclusive of Roma communities. This brief is based on research conducted in-person and remotely from November 2021 to January 2022 with Roma and Sinti communities in Milan, Rome and Catania, Italy, which have distinct historical, linguistic, geographical, religious, and other forms of identification. Similarities in how the different Roma communities experience the COVID-19 pandemic, and in their vaccine decisions were identified. This brief was developed for SSHAP by Iliana Sarafian (LSE) with contributions and reviews from Elizabeth Storer (LSE), Tabitha Hrynick (IDS), Dr Marco Solimene (University of Iceland) and Dijana Pavlovic (Upre Roma). The research was funded through the British Academy COVID-19 Recovery: G7 Fund (COVG7210058). Research was based at the Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa, London School of Economics. The brief is the responsibility of SSHAP.
