Abstract:
Power exhaust is one of the critical issue toward the elaboration of a magnetic confinement fusion reactor. Magnetic confinement is responsible for an extremely localized plasma bombardment on plasma facing components, requiring strong volume dissipation in a dedicated plasma volume called divertor. ITER exhaust strategy relies on a standard closed divertor geometry designed from smaller scale experiments and plasma simulations. Until conclusions from ITER results, current experimental trends however suggest that such divertor concept has to be improved for dealing with power exhaust constraints imposed by a larger reactor like DEMO. This PhD project aimed at studying the potential benefit of divertor configurations alternative to the one of ITER, as targeted in the new Chinese tokamak HL-2M. A particular interest was devoted to so-called snowflake configurations, consisting in two neighbor X-points on the divertor magnetic field. For the first time, these geometries have been fully simulated with the SOLEDGE2D-EREINE code, consisting in a fluid solver for the plasma particle, momentum and energy conservation, coupled to a Monte Carlo solver for neutral dynamics. In a staged approach, SOLEDG2D simulations were first applied to the more conventional divertor geometry of the WEST tokamak, aiming for a direct comparison with experimental results. A set of synthetic diagnostics have been developed from SOLEDGE simulations to mimic a broad set of experimental diagnostics. Density ramps were simulated, featuring divertor detachment in qualitative agreement with experimental observations. Then, snowflake geometries of HL2M were addressed. First, magnetic geometries were constructed with a magnetic equilibrium solver, optimizing current distribution in poloidal field coils. Mesh were generated on these magnetic maps for the SOLEDGE plasma solver. To tackle the large number of mesh elements required by the snowflake geometry, a coarse-graining convergence technique was developed, providing a speed up of the convergence time of SOLEDGE simulations by a factor of about 10. Three configurations have been generated: standard single null (SN), snowflake plus (SF+), snowflake minus (SF-). Detachment of the outer target is studied in these configurations during plasma density ramps, at constant input power and constant radial transport coefficients. Some typical characteristics of detachment, like threshold, depth and upstream window of detachment are investigated. In the three geometries, detachment onset and evolution with upstream plasma density is characterized by the gradual displacement of a radiation front from the outer target to the main X-point, as observed in experiments. It is found that, whatever the detachment in terms of particle, momentum or power dissipation, the detachment threshold is dominated primarily by the geometrical structure of divertor plate and it does not exhibit dependence on the magnetic configuration of the diverted plasma volume. In particular, the parallel connection length in the divertor is not found to affect the detachment threshold, in contrast with expectations from the 2-point model, but in agreement with experimental findings. These simulation results are a first step necessary toward the ambitious objective of predicting the benefit of alternative configuration for DEMO size conditions. It rather evidences the necessity of addressing this complex issue with a global approach coupling experimental tests, reduced model development and simulations results from complex numerical tools

Abstract:
This thesis analyses the theme of solitude in Gabriel García Márquez’s Cien años d e soledad given that it is the novel’s main theme, as suggested by the title and illustrated by the author’s focus on it and its related subthemes. The analysis of the novel and the associated literature aims to explain the author’s viewpoint on solitude and illustrate how this emotion affects the author’s homeland (Colombia) and its people as reflected in his work and through characters. The historical context of the novel and pre-Columbian myths form part of the analysis due to their role in understanding solitude as described by García Márquez. The Introduction to the thesis presents the author’s perspective on solitude– he equates it to anti-solidarity–underlining that solitude is recurrent in the work of García Márquez who stated that he only wrote one book in many books, namely the 'book of solitude’. This highlights the significance of this theme and related subthemes. The Introduction then places the novel in the literary period in which it was written (namely the Latin American boom) and examines the particular style (magic realism) that formed part of this era. Thereafter, a short biographic overview of the author is provided, with emphasis on his early childhood and the history of his time, these aspects having influenced his work profoundly. Finally, attention is drawn to pre-Columbian history as this constitutes the point of departure of the current study, in which various themes are explored to determine their link to solitude. Chapter 1 explores the theme of solitude in Latin American literature in particular and then goes on to show which non-Latin American authors also influenced García Márquez Chapter 2 deals with the historical context of the novel and its characters. It refers to the importance of history in García Márquez’s work. The pre-Columbian myths of Bachué and Hunzahúa are delved into as they too focus on solitude and incest, fundamental themes in Cien años de soledad. In addition, the characters affected by solitude are considered from an archetypal perspective. Chapter 3 is an analysis of the sub-themes of solitude and forms the biggest part of the thesis. Special attention is paid to solitude in relation to incest, lack of love, the quest for knowledge, power, nostalgia and death to show their interrelatedness and mutual influence. Cursory reference is made to other relevant aspects such as illegitimacy, insanity, elderliness, repetition, oblivion, narcissism, solipsism, fate and time. The Conclusion shows that in the specific geographic and historical context, the sub-themes analysed are in fact all themes of solitude in this novel and that solitude is the cause of the apocalyptic demise of Macondo and its people. It reveals that solidarity would be the factor that could save Colombia and Latin America.

Thompson, Ernst Frederick. "Towards the development of a larval feeding strategy for the white-margined sole (Dagetichthys marginatus)." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1012982.

Abstract:
The major bottleneck during the domestication of the white-margined sole Dagetichthys marginatus in South Africa has been low larval survival. The cause of this is not clear but considering current literature on flatfish culture and more specifically soleid culture, nutritional deficiencies are hypothesized to be the main possible cause. Following the importance of nutrition, the first aim of the research was to use an ontogenetic developmental approach to develop a species specific larval feeding strategy. Ontogenetic development of D. marginatus showed that weaning will take place at much later ages than other soleids currently being farmed. This makes the partial replacement of Artemia with a suitable inert diet in co-feeding strategies very important to cut the cost associated of live food production. This leads on to the second aim, in which an 'in vitro' approach was used to model the digestibility of Artemia, which could ultimately contribute towards designing inert feeds with similar digestibility characteristics to Artemia in the future. Obtaining nutrients from food is closely linked to the functional status of the digestive tract, the support organs and the external morphological characteristics required for the ingestion of live or inert feeds. Considering both morphological and physiological ontogenetic development, it is clear that D. marginatus follow a similar pattern to other soleids. Larvae can successfully feed on Artemia as early as 3 days after hatching but exhibit a slow metamorphosis into the juvenile stage when compared to other soleids. The absence of any detectable acidic protease activity during the first 45 days of development and the importance of exogenous enzymes from Artemia all points to limited capacity to digest artificial diets. Prior to modelling the 'in vitro' digestion of Artemia, digestive enzyme activity at different pH's were modelled using functional forms from the normal distributive category of functions.
As there is no substantiated information for the general effects of pH on enzyme activity in the literature for finfish larvae, three species occurring in the same bio-geographical region of Dagetichthys marginatus, namely Sarpa salpa, Diplodus sargus capensis and Argyrosomus japonicus were used to investigate this effect. The fitted parameters, namely the optimal pH and sigma (the slope around the optimal pH) showed two interesting results. When using a negative log likelihood ratio test to test for differences between species for a particular enzyme, the optimal pH for alkaline proteases (7.67), lipase (8.03), amylase (7.69) and phosphatase (9.84) activity was the same for all three species. Furthermore, the study illustrated the potential to detect dietary shifts during ontogenetic development based on changes in enzyme activity around the optimal pH using the sigma parameter. Sarpa salpa showed increased amylase activity and a decrease in protease activity around the optimal pH with increased size, corresponding to a change in diet from zooplankton to algae. The 'in vitro' modelling approach taken in this study was based on known enzyme interactions and dynamics which makes the results very interpretable. from Artemia is achieved based on gut evacuation time and enzyme levels. This 'in vitro' study furthermore clearly indicates the importance of exogenous enzymes from Artemia, contributing as much as 54 percent to protein digestion and 64 – 72 percent to carbohydrate digestion. This was however, only an initial investigation, and further expansion of the model is required to achieve a complete understanding of Artemia digestion and ultimately partial replacement with artificial diets. A feeding strategy for D. marginatus should therefore follow those of other farmed soleids, although there will be a general delay in implementation due to slower development. Problems can thus be solved and improvements made by transferring technology from other soleids to D. marginatus.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The general aim of this work, was to design an instrument to explore the presence of Existential Loneliness in people with advanced diseases. The experience of an advanced disease invades the whole person who suffers it, affecting the physical, psychological, social, spiritual and / or existential area. Mobilizes feelings of hopelessness, anxiety in the face of death, guilt, feelings of loneliness Facing an advanced illness, or an end-of-life situation, place the person in an existential position of breaking ties with life. Existential Loneliness (EL) is a human condition of existence. Each person lives in a separate body from others within minds that are unique. As an experience, the EL has an emotional and a cognitive component related to the awareness of one's finitude. As a process of inner growth, the negative experience of the solitary nature of the human being is transformed into a positive experience. Loneliness would be a form of separation anxiety that arises when attachment needs are not met. The Theory of Attachment is important to understand individual differences in the management of feelings of loneliness at the end of life. The vulnerability and resilience of people depend on their history and links. Finding meaning to the life that remains, from being able to establish relationships that give security in moments of so much existential suffering , requires professionals who can offer a significant relational support. In order to eliminate and / or alleviate the suffering suffered by patients at the end of life, preventing their resources from overflowing and trigger refractory symptoms, this discomfort must first be detected and, to that end, it must be available validity and reliability contrasted. To this end, the use of the EDSOL , scale is initially proposed for detect Existential Loneliness. In relation to the previously developed scale ( Viel et al., 2018), the present version (EDSOL v2) is even more reduced, by eliminating some items from the version original that did not add value to the scale. Also , it has been removed from it, the aspects that evaluated the external signs of emotional distress, more focused on social loneliness. The results indicated that 30.3% of the patients presented existential loneliness, negatively affecting their well-being. The experience of Existential Loneliness in patients and relatives is a generator of Emotional Distress, and therefore the need for their identification is reaffirmed. The EDSOL v2 has good psychometric properties and has demonstrated its clinical utility. It is simple, understandable and easy to use for the identification of existential loneliness in patients with advanced diseases admitted to Palliative Care Units.

This paper is dedicated to study connections between politics and violence during the Vargas years in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It has as reference the local disputes which occurred in the city of Soledade between 1932 and 1938. To that end, it is studied the consequences of the Combate do Fão, event that was inserted in the Constitutionalist Revolution; the local governments and the violence practices in the election periods, mainly; and the socialreligious movement of the Monges Barbudos which was repressed by the state as communists in the period of the consolidation of the Estado Novo. The reflection contributes to think the connection between violence and politics in the gaucha political history in the first phase of Vargas government, even though it was limited to Soledade. The analysis of contents is adopted as methodology during the research. Among the results obtained is pointed the political violence out in the Soledade region associated with the competition for regional and local power and important connections with the national political game. Firstly, the practice of violence aimed to suppress the opposition led by FUG against Flores da Cunha and Getúlio Vargas. In the second moment, the political violence began to fight against the florismo, mainly in 1935, which was present in that region as possible threat to both order and national security. It happened after authoritarian regime in 1937, when Monges Barbudos were inserted what legitimated an imposed repression.

Abstract:
The white margined sole Synaptura marginata (Soleidae) was isolated as the most likely candidate for flatfish aquaculture in South Africa. The aim of the study was to screen the sole as a candidate aquaculture species by way of a comprehensive study of its biology and life history strategy and to identify possible "bottlenecks". The study was undertaken on the assumption that the biological data would provide valuable information for developing specific technologies that might be required for the farming of this species. Specimens were collected monthly by spearing along the Eastern Cape coast of South Africa between December 2000 and March 2002. Length-at-age data required for modeling the growth of S. marginata was obtained from sectioned otoliths. A Von Bertalanffy growth model with an absolute error structure best describes the growth for this species. The model parameters were: L∞ = 429.5 mm TL, K = 0.24 and t₀ = -1 .79 years. Analysis of gut contents showed that S. marginata feed exclusively on polychaete worms, mainly of the genus Morphysa. S. marginata shows a protracted summer spawning season of six months, from October to April. This was determined by the calculation of a monthly gonadosomatic index and a macroscopic maturity scale. Histological examination of the ovaries revealed five ovarian developmental stages. Size at 50% and 100% sexual maturity for females was calculated to be 235 mm TL and 300 mm TL (ca. 1.5 - 2.5 years of age) and all males> 154 mm TL were mature. S. marginata is a batch spawner, releasing a minimum of 3 batches of eggs per year. Relative fecundity is high (34000 eggs per year I kg) and this coupled with the protracted spawning season would make it possible to obtain adequate numbers of juveniles (for farming) for approximately five to six months of the year. Comparative analysis of the biological characteristics in relation to other soles farmed elsewhere in the world suggests that S. marginata is a suitable candidate for marine fish culture in South Africa.

Abstract:

The literature contributions to the Latin American history studies are priceless and uncountable. Based on this assumption, this dissertation analyzes two canonical books of the Latin American literature: the Colombian Gabriel García Márquez's novel Cien Años de Soledad (1967) and the Mexican Octavio Paz's essay El Laberinto de la Soledad (1950). Through a critical reading of these works, we intend to reflect on the value of these canons, as well as on the problems raised by these authors. In those books, one can find innovative considerations about history, politics and culture of the Contemporary Latin America: among them, the concept of loneliness, already present in the titles of these works, and that will be the background of this study. Besides considering this concept, García Márquez and Octavio Paz's writing are connect with the current studies about the Latin American identity; with the valorization of the mixedrace nature of its people and are part of the contributions from the Ibero-American world to the west.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Cognitive functioning is of vital importance to enjoy a full, autonomous and functional life. In old age, people experience, the deterioration of their functions and the limitations that this entails. Due to the importance of the topic, and to the fact that the population of the older adult has been growing in recent years, variables that may function as protective or risk factors for cognitive deterioration have been studied. It is considered that loneliness is associated with the cognitive functional decline, and specifically with the deterioration of executive function. This thesis aimed to analyze the relationship between feelings of loneliness and executive function in elders. 25 older adults (19 women and 6 men) between the ages of 65 and 90 years participated (M = 83.44, SD = 7.50) from three geriatric residencies in Lima, Peru. Those with moderate or severe cognitive impairment were excluded from the sample. The instruments used were the Stroop Test (Golden, 2007) and the Spanish adaptation of the UCLA loneliness scale (Velarde, Fragua-Gil y García de Cecilia, 2016). A significant, reversed and median correlation was obtained between these variables (- .344). The hypothesis was not fulfilled, because the correlation had a reverse direction to the expected one. Likewise, two multiple linear regressions were made between sociodemographic variables and the main variables of the study, respectively. Only the model for feelings of loneliness was significant (R2 = .539). It was found that reading and previous housing were the variables that explained the scores of loneliness in the sample.

Abstract:

This paper is dedicated to study connections between politics and violence during the Vargas years in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It has as reference the local disputes which occurred in the city of Soledade between 1932 and 1938. To that end, it is studied the consequences of the Combate do F?o, event that was inserted in the Constitutionalist Revolution; the local governments and the violence practices in the election periods, mainly; and the socialreligious movement of the Monges Barbudos which was repressed by the state as communists in the period of the consolidation of the Estado Novo. Firstly, the practice of violence aimed to suppress the opposition led by FUG against Flores da Cunha and Get?lio Vargas. In the second moment, the political violence began to fight against the florismo, mainly in 1935, which was present in that region as possible threat to both order and national security. It happened after authoritarian regime in 1937, when Monges Barbudos were inserted what legitimated an imposed repression.

Abstract:
Hard Soled Shoes is a collection of poetry designed to appeal to several, specific audiences. The first audience consists of: other poets, creative writers, and literary critics. I have submitted a work drawn from the life experience of a 42 year-old man. I crafted the poems with the academic learning gained from a graduate study of poetry and creative writing. My graduate education has helped me recognize a higher and broader standard in the realm of poetry. It also enabled me to refine my own style of writing; a comfortable mix of song lyrics and image-rich writing.Another group I hope to reach with this collection is a segment of readers who have a limited knowledge of poetry. I feel it is important to reach out beyond the academic community to a broader audience. There are many people outside academia who can appreciate and enjoy good poetry. I chose many poems for this collection that are accessible and relevant to people of many backgrounds, interests, and demographics. The use of humor, meter, rhyme, and familiar characters give the pieces understandable "hooks" to draw the attention of readers. The inclusion of song lyrics and musical devices like refrains bring a familiarity to readers who only have experience of poetry through popular music. My intent is to use simple and clear language to express more complex ideas. Hopefully the depth of subject matter will entice readers to re-read certain pieces and consider new ideas. The use of repetition and rhyme will hopefully bring focus and power to certain poems and create at least a few memorable or quotable lines from the collection.I believe a poetry collection can be an artistic endeavor and still have a broad entertainment appeal. My education has prepared me to recognize and write quality, literary poetry suitable for publication. My years of experience producing creative ideas for media and advertising have made me aware of the challenges of trying to reach a vast audience. I see a hole in the media market. I believe good, accessible poetry could fill a void and successfully satisfy the needs of a specific, literary niche.

Abstract:
Loneliness is a common problem in the elderly population that lives in Long Term Care Facilities and several studies have found the damaging effect it has on their health. Other studies have also found that Animal Assisted Therapy (ATT) can reduce feelings of loneliness. This thesis aims to study the causal relationship between AAT and the decrease of loneliness. An experimental design was used, consisting of one pre-test and two post-test measurements. Five elderly residents (1 male, 4 female), between the ages of 70 and 92 (M=82,80, SE=8,35) living in a Long Term Care Facility, were randomly assigned to either the experimental (participating in AAT) or control group (participating in similar sessions without the animals). The UCLA loneliness was applied before starting the control and experimental sessions, immediately after finishing with the last sessions, again six weeks after that. A t-test was used to compare the means and results indicate that there is a decrease in loneliness in the experimental participants when comparing the pre-test (M=20, DE=2,64) and first post-test(M=16.67, DE=2.40) (t(2) = 10, p < 0.05).

Abstract:
The converted populations of Missions San Antonio, San Carlos, and Soledad never participated in an organized revolt against the Franciscan missionaries like other populations did throughout the American West. Yet, the converts were subjected to the same methods of control by the Franciscan missionaries. Because the tribes of the Monterey area were small and relatively unconnected to their neighbors, the groups could not organize as one once they were on the missions. For these missions individual revolt was how the converts responded to the types of control that they were subjected to. This paper analyzes the common threads in the violent revolts throughout the American West and demonstrates that these were present at Missions San Antonio, San Carlos, and Soledad. This paper then demonstrates that the neophytes on these missions did revolt, just on an individual as opposed to a group basis.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
We live in a global world where there is an increasing trend for more people to live in big cities. This demographic reality means life in large spread out territories coexists with a low population density. These places are defined as rural. The population in the European Union corresponds to approximately 6.5% of the world population. More than 20% of Europeans live in communities of less than 2.000 inhabitants. Despite this, there is very little knowledge about what health needs of this population are. Segovia -Autonomous Community of Castilla-León (Spain), the region with the greatest area and smallest population density-, meets the conditions which define a rural setting. The objective of this research study was to describe the professional medical attention present in the rural setting as well as the healthcare processes of the adult population residing in villages of this province. The methodology used was a muti-situated ethnography.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to taxonomically revise the 41 nominal species found within the Brachirus species complex (Order Pleuronectiformes; Family Soleidae). This complex is recognizable by a combination of characters: the structure of the supracranial portion of the dorsal fin which lack pterigiophores with their proximal ends directly over the cranium, by the joined dorsal, anal and caudal fins, and by the anterior tip of the dorsal fin almost reaching the upper jaw. This revision is based on the morphological and meristic examination of 34 type and 717 non-type specimens for all available nominal species. The type material was examined for twenty species. The remaining species were assessed from the original type description. It was found that the Brachirus species complex is made up of four genera including 19 valid species: Brachirus (14), Achiroides (1), Dexillus (3), and Paradicula (1). Eight of the nominal species do not belong to the Brachirus species complex and have been removed from the scope of this study. Achiroides, characterized by the rudimentary pectoral fins, contains a single valid species, A. melanorhynchus (Bleeker 1851) and three synonyms (Synaptura aenea Smith 1931, Anisochirus harmandi Sauvage 1878, and Plagusia leucorhynchos Bleeker 1851). Dexillus , characterized by the close proximity of the eyes, contains three valid species: D. macrolepis (Bleeker 1858), D. megalepidoura (Fowler 1934), and D. muelleri (Steindachner 1879). D. muelleri is a senior synonym of the nominal species Synaptura arafurensis Gunther 1880. Paradicula, unique in having the gill openings restricted to the base of the pectoral fins, contains a single valid species, P. setifer Paradice & Whitley 1927. Abstract:

The city of Belém do Pará contains an area that harbors numerous stone monuments which mark and identify the Belém’s 19th century society. This area is the Cemetery of Soledade, which now function as an outdoor museum. Besides the weathering, wich makes stones change constantly, Soledade has suffered with looting and vandalism throughout its more than 150 years of existence. The presence of deterioration on the stones of tombs and mausoleums of the first public cemetery in Belém damages the quality and integrity of the material, interfering negatively in the reading of the spatial image. The Cemetery has been listed as a National Heritage Landscape since 1964 by IPHAN. Considering the importance of conservation and restoration of ancient buildings and monuments to preserve the memory of a society, this research sought to assess the deterioration by weathering and anthropogenic origin in the different stones used in tombs and mausoleums of Cemetery of Soledade. In order to generate subsidies for the conservation and restoration of these stones, the characteristics of rocks used, its state changes and the causes of deterioration were assessed. The analysis and technological investigations allowed for the identification of granite, limestone and marble and for the determination of agents and mechanisms of deterioration such as chemical action, high temperatures and microbiological action. The diagnosis of the conservation condition throrough the mapping of damages based on the Illustrated Glossary on Stone Deterioration Patterns of ICOMOS confirmed the advanced level of the pathological manifestations on the surfaces of stones, which also present lack of internal cohesion and discontinuities according with ultrasound results. To contribute to future conservation actions, restoration procedure tests to clean the monuments such as the polishing and application of bentonite plaster were performed efficiently. The results highlight the urgent need for conservation actions to reduce the rate of deterioration and mitigate the current advanced state of the same. With the data obtained, this study try to be an alert to the the situation of abandonment of the Cemetery of Soledade, promoting the importance of keeping it preserved for future generations.

Abstract:
This study focuses on the Spanish poet of the Generation of '27 Manuel Altolaguirre. The purpose of this thesis is to show how the poetry of Manuel Altolaguirre evolves in relation to specific issues. Specifically, I study the changes in his work in regard to the themes of death and solitude, resulting from exile in 1939, to be enriched by new experiences, many of them dramatic, taking more personal ways, while offering them a more profound and complex and even in regard to the subject of the poet's death comes to contemplate a more positive way. The thesis is divided into five chapters. Following the introduction, the second chapter focuses on Altolaguirre's biography and the Generation in 1927 while the third focuses and analyzes his poetry before his exile in 1939. The fourth chapter examines his poetry after exile until his death in 1959, while the fifth and last chapter concludes this study.

Abstract:
The many-sided nature of Soledad Puértolas's writing leads us to study closely the things in common with her various pieces of writing. However hard it may be to define and to classify such phrases as "certain-something" and "scarcely-nothing", they are appropriate to designate the links either within a given genre or between the various genres ever taken up in her writings ; they are as well suitable to qualify the author's own way to apprehend times and spaces. The originality of her writing is conveyed through the variations she can play on respecting permanent features while letting new elements in. Although the genres are different, all her characters are built up in a similar way : they are no heroes, but you can feel the presence of their families in the diegesis and they keep seeking human contacts. Sewing disease and relationship to mother as set of themes in Soledad Puértolas's written work can be defined as "scarcely-nothings". All the characters, narrators or not, being part of the narrative are in charge of an investigation. Soledad Puértolas has a specific conception of time : for her, it refers more to its dismantling then to its construction : a resistance against established order often aims to slowing down the pace of time. Space is considered in a similar way since the author keeps setting up vague spaces, easily transposable despite a great number of town names mentioned. Cinema, photography as well as painting play an important part in such a pictorial writing. Her power of suggestion is a characteristic of her style, molded out of her deliberate will to get a touch of ephemerid deeply rooted in her writings

Abstract:
It was studied the relationship between psychological control and loneliness in adolescents from 12 to 17 years from two private schools in Lima. Likewise, the Psychological Control Scale Dependency oriented and Achievement oriented (DAPCS) and the Children and Adolescence Loneliness Scale (LACA) were administered to a sample of 242 participants. It was found that the dimensions of loneliness in relation to the pairs and loneliness in relation to the parents presented highly significant correlations with the variable of psychological control. In the first dimension of loneliness the correlations were positive and, in the second, negative. On the other hand, the dimension of affinity to loneliness was related in a positive and significant way only with the psychological control in relation to the father; While the dimension of aversion to loneliness was only positively and significantly related to psychological control in relation to the mother.

Abstract:
The overall aim of this study was to gain a better understanding of the feeding mechanisms of the larvae and early juveniles of the sole, Dagetichthys marginatus (Soleidae), with which to assess the suitability of current feeding protocols and to facilitate the development of an appropriate pelleted feed. This was achieved by examining the ontogeny of the cranium of laboratory reared sole, with particular emphasis on those elements associated with feeding and by comparing the cranium of juvenile fish with that of adult fish. At 4 dah (days after hatch) Dagetichthys marginatus larvae develop the first rudimentary branchial arches that facilitates the capture and ingestion of food items. Subsequent development of cranial structures, such as the oral jaws, suspensorium, neurocranium, hyoid and branchial arches and the opercular apparatus enables the larvae, at 16 dah, to switch from ram feeding to suction feeding on live prey. The use of live Artemia nauplii from 4 to 16 dah is therefore appropriate. The first morphological asymmetries developed at 16 dah in the dentaries and at 22 dah the maxillae and the premaxillae began to show asymmetries. Teeth were present only on the blind side of the oral jaw elements and during this period (16 to 22 dah) the existing elements began to ossify. From 16 to 35 dah the standard feeding protocol consists of a combination of pelagic (Artemia metanauplii) and benthic prey (dead, frozen Artemia nauplii) and from 25 dah onwards a sinking pellet is provided. The time (dah) at which frozen Artemia and sinking pellets were provided, appropriately corresponded to the initiation of benthic feeding behaviour. However at this stage the use of pelagic Artemia metanauplii is inappropriate and unnecessary. At 31 dah the cranial morphology resembled that of adult fish. Adult D. marginatus display extreme asymmetries among the elements of the oral jaws, the suspensorium and certain elements of the neurocranium. Elements on the blind side are larger and more robust than those on the ocular side and are adapted for feeding, while those on the ocular side appear to have a respiratory function. From 31 dah the cranial elements are identical to those of adult fish, suggesting that no further feeding behavioural changes occurred and that a sinking pellet, of which the nutrient composition meets the requirements of the fish, would be appropriate for ongrowing.

Abstract:
To remain competitive, companies are supposed to know the internal and external factors that are present in their sector and global reality, obtaining information that allow them to formulate strategies in order to stay in the market. Having this necessity in mind, the present dissertation presents the study on entrepreneurial, structural and systematic competitive factors in micro, small and medium-sized companies in the field of precious stones in Soledade RS. Through surveys, questionnaires have been applied to businesspeople from thirty-one precious stones industries, with the purpose of identifying the factors that exert major influence on the competitiveness of precious stones companies from Soledade - RS, according to the businesspeople s perception, with product delimitation of rough stones, stone works and artefacts and lapidated stones, by using the model of Coutinho and Ferraz (1995) and Ferraz, Kupfer and Haguenauer (1995). It has been verified that the groups of systematic and structural factors are the ones that mostly influence the competitiveness in this sample of companies. However, it has to be emphasized that, when comparing the average rates of influence of the three groups of variants (entrepreneurial, structural and systematic factors), the percentages obtained have been very much alike, from what may be concluded that the competitiveness of precious stones companies from Soledade is related to strategies that integrate these three groups of factors with similar degrees of influence.

Abstract:
The Irish Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

Abstract:

____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Under the heading “The feminine reclusion in the Convent of the Soledade: The different forms of one experience (Salvador – Century XVIII)”, different forms of experience of feminine reclusion in the Convent of the Soledade are analyzed, attempting to the conceptions, images, values, norms, social functions, and impressions that reveal the practice of feminine confinement. Therefore, we point with respect to the diversity and plurality of the women, who at that time exerted different activities of management, adminstration, devotion, education and, as well as working for sociability relations, communitarian life and individual experiences. Moreover, we show up an institution presided under rules and interdictions, a permanent system of minitoring and discipline, and also for trespasses and ruptures with the isolation. At last, space of submission, passivity and indifference and, at the same time, of autonomy, financial independence and exercise of control and power.

The movement of Bearded Monks (Monges Barbudos) of the Soledade and Sobradinho was compared by the Judge of the District of Candelaria with two other famous Braziliam rural movements: the muckers, which took place in Ferrabraz, Rio Grande do Sul; and Canudos, in Bahia. That Judge had acquitted the civilian and military for the murder of André Ferreira França, who died in August 1938, in the place known as Coloninha, Lagoão district, by that time the 6th district of Soledade. The protagonists of the Bearded Monks’ rural movement were rural farmers that advocated a kind of religiosity associated with practices of medicinal herbs, especially carob, and principles of peaceful community living, and appreciation of nature. They were mobilized around a thousand participants, endorsed by the prophet João Maria. During the Holy Week of 1938, two Police confrontations, with the cooperation of civilians, involved hundreds of people and left dead, wounded and more than one hundred prisoners. The two confrontations occurred in the Church of Santa Catarina, in Bela Vista district, and the Costa’s Corner, in Jacuizinho district, both were district of Soledad. This monograph investigates unprecedented documents and interviews with the participants circa of 30 years after the event. In order to identify social, political and economic protagonists and opponents, the context of the 1930’s in Rio Grande do Sul and Brazil was established. A network of family relationships involving more than 40 families had been unveiled. The unifying core of that network was composed by Desiderius Fiuza, France and the Ferreira Gonçalves da Costa. In addition to these small holders, the movement mobilized remnants of Guaraní communities and ex-slaves that were living in the yerba mate and araucaria forest of the Middle Plateau and the Encosta da Serra regions. These rural workers were confronted by 500 opponents, among them municipal authorities, traders and merchants, farmers and settlers of foreign origin settlers in colonial settlement of the early 20th Century. The Bearded Monks resisted the economic and political crisis that took place before the WW II with the practicing of a mutual and mystical discourse. They were repressed and persecuted by the dictatorship of the Estado Novo (1937-1945).
