Quérini, Nicolas. "De la connaissance de soi au devenir soi : Platon-Nietzsche." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020STRAC019.
Full textWhile criticizing the Western morality anchored, according to him, in the Delphic sentence “Know yourself”, Nietzsche develops for his part an imperative which is, in our opinion, the natural and necessary extension of the self-knowledge. It is, therefore, from the injunction to become oneself that he operates the criticism of morality itself resulting from the invitation to self-knowledge. It is not, however, a question of reducing the Nietzsche an ethics of becoming-self to the way in which one can understand this syntagm in Plato. The use that Nietzsche proposes of it is indeed, in our opinion, quite singular. It cannot be denied, however, that it also did not come out of nothing and that Nietzsche first draws lessons from Pindar, who reinterprets himself the Delphic sentence, when he writes “Becomeas you have learned to know youself”. We therefore think that Nietzsche recovers Pindar’s formula beyond Plato, to criticize the latter and, through him, the whole philosophy which made self knowledge the departure of ethics. But we would therefore also try to do justice to Plato, since his philosophy actually frees the possibility of becoming ourself

Full textThis thesis traces the steps of creating a projective device for exploring the self-archaic of an adult subject. Its development is the result of several former studies from various groups: adult subjects with no pathology recognized, young psychotic adults and/or borderlines, and adult paraplegic subjects. The device created for this research has evolved into an exploration and mediation tool used for many years as part of my therapeutic group of patients, mostly suffering from identity narcissistic disorders.Photographs of space, mostly taken by the CNRS or NASA with different telescopes, are used a carrier. With these photographs, the visual impact is undeniable. "What does the Universe mean to you?": The use of photographs of various celestial objects as projective medium to respond to a latent question about subjectivity, mobilizes thinking in images and comes to question the sense of self, archaic and current. The photographs offer a representation of native experiences, cosmic metaphors already presented in the psychoanalytic literature (Anzieu and formal signifiers, Aulagnier and the black hole of the psyche... These favor an imaged scene of early interactions. The EPSA device is an "attractor" seeking the projection of an "uncreated" image, an experience in default of symbolization. The EPSA malleability allows the patient to put into shape the uncreated, to tell the story of what he does not know of himself and that haunts him. The subject projects into the EPSA a psychic atmosphere, a trace of an emerging self with an operation that is sometimes problematic, in which appears "processes" of transformation.EPSA explores the reflexive capacities of the subject: the subject ability to be able to develop or not an aesthetic conflict, management and expression of conflict. It is also explores the ability to "reason" emotionally, to be in touch with his emotions, to experience them, to feel oneself, to see oneself, and "to express" his emotions (Three "degrees" of symbolization). The maturity of the archaic self and its expression (emotional maturity of the sense of self) can be defined as the tolerance and acceptance of affects, emotions, and feelings... caused by conflicts to think about oneself. In this way, the subject avoids being "overwhelmed" emotionally and inhibition. The mental and verbal elaboration of conflicts provides for sharing and communication with others.EPSA allows us to observe in adults the relationship in the early stages of development disorders: treatment of affect, early interactions, and disorders due to deficiencies in the tuning... EPSA is an exploration of an important tool in the construction of subjectivity processes, and refines our clinical look on narcissistic identity disorders, borderline condition, and disease of addiction...The EPSA device, which proposes the patient to imagine his impressions, enables the patient to put words to his thoughts. It is a creative space in which we found and create. A symbolizing device which encourages sharing and meeting. It is an "objeu", a therapeutic carrier. Finally, EPSA is a mirror of oneself, and also a tool of "transformation" of symbolization

Full textLiterature and psychoanalysis hold together links so inevitable as enigmatic writers. Freud was the first to show and illustrate how the writing process could make understand the psychoanalytic facts and their mechanisms He learned a lot from artistic practices, particularly in literature; and after him, the use of literature allowed the identification of issues in the clinical field, which were likely to be then transferred to the medical practice. From their side, the writers have taken the psychoanalytic concepts and approaches to enrich and feed their perpetual quest for an always-greater self-knowledge. Most have even used writing as a weapon against death. It seemed interesting to us to test some artworks in terms of analytical thinking. Therefore the following essay asks the question on what motivates an individual to get involved in writing, where does the desire, often a matter of survival, come from, and how does he proceed to achieve that. If writing can occasionally organize the analytic discourse, it is undeniable that it has profoundly affected the artistic codes, and in particular in the field of literature. Writing process, through mobilization of unconscious processes and resonances it leaves, enables, by way of its own, to go to the sources of the unconscious. It is in the development of new forms of interest that the studied writers were able to shape, identify which of their identity aspects was lacking in their own understanding of reality

Full textTime disorders in schizophrenia have been the subject of numerous clinical descriptions, particularly from the psychiatric phenomenology. The latter considers time more as a container than a content of perception that is to say an essential component of subjective experience: consciousness is indeed structured in time. Husserl describes a tripartite structure of time consciousness, which is seen as an automatic integration of the past, the present, and the future. He gives the example of music. When we listen to a melody, we are conscious of the present note but still have the previous note in mind (“retention”) and usually anticipate the note to come. These automatic processes determine in this model the subject's ability to forge a sense of familiarity with his own experience, lived as stable and continuous. One of phenomenological models of schizophrenic disorders postulated a breakdown of the temporal structure of consciousness, which consequently induces disturbances of subjective experience at its most basic level (the level of minimal self) and determines a subject lived strangeness to respect of his own experience. These descriptive approaches, however, are limited by the extent that it is difficult to describe temporality of others by introspective method. Thus, exploring process of temporality by cognitive sciences could help to overcome these limitations. Recent work focusing on the alteration of simultaneity judgments (which does not seem to sign a merger events to an implicit and automatic level) and basic temporal predictive processes (however measured at the scale of a millisecond) in schizophrenic disorders and the links it is possible to foresee with predictive coding theory provides a very encouraging first set of data on the way to a cognitive understanding of schizophrenic time. The objective of our work was to validate the one hand the hypothesis of dissociation between conscious and automatic discrimination of events in time, using paradigms assessing the temporal constraints of multisensory integration (Study 1). On the other hand, we studied directly implicit time prediction with a dedicated paradigm (in this case, the temporal orientation task, Study 2). We also analyzed the automatic responses of subjects in an event discrimination task in time to check what patients can and can not predict (Study 3). We also explore the hypothesis of a link between temporal and minimal self by looking for correlations between performance

Full textTwo research studies are described in this thesis. The first was concerned with the self-image and the self-esteem school age children. The second examined the influence of the teacher's representation of a "good pupil" on his/her evaluation of different areas of competence in the child. The population of this research is composed of 180 children for the first study. For the second one there are 134 children and 9 teachers from an elementary school in Toulouse. We used the Perceived competence scale of children (PCSC), a structured interview, and a thematic composition with children to evaluate self-image and self-esteem. The children's scholastic achievement was determined by an unstructured interview. Teachers evaluated children's competence with a questionnaire. The results show that boys evaluate themselves more positively than girls and most particularly with regard to cognitive and physical competence. This pattern was true as much for the younger children as by the older. The responses of the children in defining their self-image also varied according to age and sex. Teachers showed a tendency to evaluate the competencies of the boys more positively. This evaluation was particularly marked with scholastic competence. Finally, our results showed that, in general, teachers are more positive about to the children of opposite sex. Masters are more negative than mistresses in their evaluation of the pupils. The results indicate that teacher evaluation plays an important part in determining the child's perception of him/herself. It is also possible that the child's level of self-esteem influences the manner of which they are perceived by teachers. This last question remains open

Full textThis concept arises when an individual attempts to harm himself. Although the principle of Responsibility towards oneself is not present in the French substantive law, a kind of reflexive responsibility can be observed in its different legal mechanisms that deal with responsibility. From ad hoc and restricted applications, the manifestations of responsibility towards oneself are however of a wide range. They reflect the hesitations in the French law between two contradictory approaches: preserving individual freedom and protecting the individual against himself. After concrete cases where this concept was interpreted are presented, questions are raised and a grid is proposed to analyze responsibility towards oneself in the French law. The search of criteria and foundations that are common to the different forms of this responsibility reveals a redefinition of the fault that requires a sanction of this self-damage. As a conclusion to our proof, this fault against oneself seems to rest on a duty to care to oneself

Full textThe following research highlights the relations between personality building processes and projet formation among adolescents. To unveil structural framework based upon a systemic concept of personality. The theory of inter-structuring process between the subject and the institutions underlies the approach. We chose to emphaze the issue of projet formation while focusing on two components of personality : identity (as related to self-esteem) and social competence. Identity, considered as a sub-systm of personality, operates through lifetime in relation to personal grouth. We define social competence using an inter-personal problem-solving model. The study has been conducted among youths of fourteen to sixteen years of age. The measuring instruments included : a self-esteem scale, a test of social-competence, a test designed to uncover project strategies and a questionaire geared toward scheduling issues, age and projet references. Results of the analysis show that high self-esteem is associated with a better handling of time (projects more sophisticated and more involving, broader perspectives). Morewer, the study demonstrates that high social competence conditions the choice for structured project strategies

Full textThis thesis concerns the digital practices and uses of self-quantification. The quantified-self movement first appeared in 2007 in Silicon Valley, but in a few years these practices have evolved rapidly to converge on digital health technologies. If it appears from the scientific and academic literature, that they constitute a contemporary form of biopower (Lupton, 2016) and that they carry many hopes in the field of health, they are however not questioned, neither from the perspective of the anthropological changes they introduce in the coupling between body and physiological digital data (Simondon, 1958, Boullier, 2011; Sadin, 2013), nor from the self-quantification technologies models point of view mainly based on behaviorist approaches, favoring persuasion rather than meaning. This lack of thinking raises many ethical questions about how to design a technology, especially when it comes to the health of individuals (Lupton, 2013; 2016).In this perspective, this thesis pursuit a dual purpose. The first is to provide a comprehensive perspective on the digital self-quantification practices. The second objective relates to the instrumentation of these new technological artifacts and to their modeling. To do this, we chose the approach the “Learning by Expanding model” of Engeström (1999, 2014), to model the digital mediations processes involved in the self-quantification practices

Full textAfter the Second World War, the commitment of Italian authors to the public good put at a disadvantage autobiography and its private nature. It explains why the writer Giuseppe Berto had to develop various ways of expressing himself (diary, autobiographical novel. . . ) in order to fulfil his own writing needs as well as audience expectations. The text analysis of Il male oscuro as an analytical account is coupled with the study of the links between Berto and psychoanalysis (his theorapeutical process, his theoretical readings on the subject) and the situation of Il male oscuro among works influenced by psychoanalysis, from Svevo to Camon. With La cosa buffa, Berto found other new ways of the self-reflexive writing (narrative voice, reading convention, titles' fonctions). The diachronic analysis of the movement of the writing in the text and the study of documents with respect to the novel illustrate the self-reflexive writing, its genesis and its aims. The way Berto went from a first period of "collective" writing, linked to realism but rich of personal elements, to a writing he calls altruistic or, at least, humanistic, leads to show the whole range of Berto's writing and his originality in Italian literature

Full textAt this time of development and promotion of corporal techniques intended to free the body and to allow the individual to affirm himself, radical corporal transformations appear on the medical scene. The request for a total facial transformation made by two young men met during a plastic surgery consultation indicates a scopic trauma linked to the absence of the maternal eye as a loving eye. The face "never a part of me" is a bad object which incarnates self-hatred in the form of an impossibility of the subject to see himself peacefully other than trough an imaginary double. The question as authorising the use of surgery, fruit of the desunion of instincts, requires a dialogue as to the admission of such a request. These attest to a physical imaginary that turns the body into an object of passion, at times object of hatred, at times object of pleasure. The body, seen as an instance of healing, becomes an item produced in evidence which during an lengthy preliminary is first accused then repaired: a way of cutting into reality instead of cutting into the symbolic. This novel method of relying on the body, seen from its appearance, articulates which the medical proposal which offers to treat the deficient which a physical object on which fantasy and imaginary fulfilment or plenitude, proper to our modernity, anchor

Secondly, it is defined as the movement by which individuals consider some symbolic areas (cafe, parish, country, region, tradition, language) as the extension of their selves, the place in which they can express their specificity, and consequently try to establish their own territory

Full textIn this dissertation, we have tried to explain our views on the problem of drug-addiction through the various notions of control: real self control, the belief in self control and the internality (locus of control, atribution) in a drug-addict. This work has been done through theoretical data and in a specific clinical context, in which drug-addiction means how to deal the withdrawal symptoms. The work consists in a general survey of drug-addiction and its various aspects: the drug-addict, drug, psychopathology and the etiology in relationship with this problem. We have approached the following research lines: drug addiction and self control, the belief in self control and the narcissistic belief or self-esteeming in the drug-addict, together with the problems of self control and how to deal with the lack of self-control always present in a drug-addict especially in one undergoing withdrawal symptoms. Our purpose was to understand why and how an individual resorts to drug and to observe the level of effective self-control and its variations in the drug addict, whether he has taken drug or under withdrawal symptoms tand. Thus we wanted to see the signs of narcissistic belief or self-esteeming in a drug-addict. The problematic of self control and the environment for the drug-addict are considered by us as very important and we mean to examine those processes possibly in a pathological contest, such as the self control pathology which will lead us to the conclusion that drug addiction is a lack of self-control. The level of self control in a drug addict or any drug consumer varies according to the drug used and to the dosage used, as well as to the basic structure of a personality, which is always influenced by social and environmental factors. Moreover in drug addiction, the essential variations of self control depend on the drug addiction itself and on the withdrawal symptoms

Full textSilicon On Insulator technology (SOI) presents a considerable interest for the micro-electronics because it gradually replaces bulk silicon technology. These last years, new concepts of structures and new manufacturing units allowed a reduction in the cost of SOI substrates, making this technology competitive for high speed and low power CMOS devices. The aim of this thesis is the investigation of Y-MOS (pseudo-MOSFET) and Hg-FET, two techniques very suitable to compare the quality and the electric parameters of various SOI structures. The second objective is to seek solution for improving the thermal dissipation through the buried oxide, in order to enhance of the performances of the SOI transistors while avoiding an increase in the operating temperature. The first chapter reminds the main SOI wafer processing techniques as well as the differences between SOI and bulk silicon. We present, in the second chapter, the electrical techniques of characterization (Y-MOS and Hg-FET) used for this works. The analysis of the measurement errors, the preparation of the samples and the correlation between Y-MOS and Hg-FET are also included. The third chapter is devoted to the study of the innovating substrates. We present results of characterization, modelling and simulation for ultra-thin silicon films. We also introduce the characterization of ultra-thin BOX and silicon on quartz (SOQ). The fourth chapter is related to the integration of high thermal conductivity materials for SOI MOSFET transistors. Numerical simulations reveal the thermal and electrical benefit when the buried oxide material is changed

This study includes a thorough electrical characterization and an analytical modeling carried out using a new program, developed during this work, "CAPES". This program, based on the Poisson-Schrodinger coupling equations, takes into account the quantum confinement effect and their multidimensional impact. A modified version of Hänsch method is proposed and the integration in CAPES of the non bands parabolicity shows the need for considering this effect for Si films thinner than 5nm. Ln addition, a detailed study on the interfaces coupling effects in fully-depleted and double-gate MOS/SOI transistors is achieved. The impact of the gate misalignement in DG devices is also analysed Finally, thanks to a new extraction method, the transport properties of the various channels of the FinFETs transistors are compared

Full textThis work presents the study of Self-Heating (SH) effect in Graded-Channel Silicon-On-Insulator (GC SOI) nMOSFETs. The SOI technology characteristics are described with special attention to the GC SOI nMOSFET characteristics. A Self-Heating (SH) analysis was performed using conventional Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) in comparison to Graded-Channel (GC) SOI nMOSFETs devices. The analysis was performed comparing devices with the same mask channel length and with the same effective channel length. Two-dimensional numerical simulations were performed considering the lattice heating in both cases. The models and the thermal conductive constant used in these simulations are also presented. It has been demonstrated that conventional and GC devices with the same mask channel length present similar occurrence of SH independently of the length of lightly doped region despite the larger drain current. On the other hand, for similar effective channel lengths, the SH is less pronounced in GC transistors as the mask channel length has to be increased in order to compensate the current difference. This analysis is also carried through varying it temperature of 200K to 400K and analogous results had been observed despite the effect being more intense in low temperatures.

Full textIn his 1927 study, The Structure of the Soul, the Dominican Ambroise Gardeil (1859-1931) delivered a powerful interpretation of Thomas Aquinas’ works on the knowledge of the soul through the soul itself, thus enabling him to fathom, by structural analogy, an immediate and experimental knowledge of God. The following thesis endeavours to critically examine, through the works of Thomas and diverse thomistic noetics, the heuristic value of such an interpretation. We will first identify the metaphysical perspective that allowed Gardeil to recognize in the habitual knowledge of the human soul as mind (mens) a structure of immediate selfintelligibility, founding all experimental and actual perception of self, yet remaining in potency. We will then confront Ambroise Gardeil’s hermeneutics to those of another thomist, M.-D. Roland-Gosselin (1883-1934), who, in a previously unedited correspondence that we are publishing, insisted on the necessary mediation of objective acts of intellection in the knowledge of the soul through the soul itself. In order to understand this thomistic conflict of interpretation, like Gardeil we will rely on the hermeneutics that Thomas himself proposed on Augustine’s trinitarian considerations on the mind (mens), his knowledge (notitia) and his love (amor). Finally, drawing upon D. Dubarle’s (1907-1987) philosophical interrogation, we will examine whether the analogy between knowledge of self and knowledge of God that Gardeil detected in Augustine and Thomas, can address Kant’s compelling challenge and grant in Thomism a real and immediate experience of God

Full textThis study in comparative philosophy offers a hermeneutics of the idea of self. It explores the ascetic dimension of the question “what self?” apparent across the various disciplines of liberation developed by the Stoic and Zen traditions. In its diverse guises, this question is the cornerstone of specific practices of the self within these traditions. As such, its main function is to guide the idea of self, with regard to the polarity self ↔ non-self, in order to achieve the status of the sage, which represents a kind of harmony with an original nature that is common to all individuals. Therefore, rather than simply designating an ontological foundation – real or alleged – the idea of self has the role of a vector, which, depending on its orientation, allows one to actualise (or not) this harmony. Through comparative analysis of the role of negation (detachment) of the self, this study seeks to broaden the spectrum of the processes of subjectification or practices of the self and, thus, to bring to light an aspect that has been somewhat neglected by the Western history of subjectivity. In doing so, this thesis enables better understanding of how the full-bodied (meta)physics of the Stoics is able to think the negation (detachment) of the self and, conversely, of how the Buddhist metaphysics of emptiness can develop an idea of moral subjectivity and responsibility

Full textOur healthcare system is under constant pressure to reduce spending. In such a context, more than ever, bringing about lasting change to individuals' behavior is a key issue. In this regard, all individuals are urged to become lifelong, self-regulated contributors to their own health maintenance. However, the context in which people are encouraged to take on this role is extremely complex. Internet has become part of the healthcare scene and changed the way people think about healthcare and gain access to medical knowledge. Doctors are no longer believed to be the only people who possess knowledge and power in the field. Everyone now wants to have an active hand in managing their own health, which blurs the boundaries between lay and expert knowledge. Our research explores people's ability to exercise control over their own health. Our objective is to understand how this self-determining power develops over time and is exercised in accordance with life events. Our approach thus aims to understand the self-regulation of health as an intelligible phenomenon. Biographical interviews were conducted with twenty-four middle-aged individuals. This survey not only provides a model of analysis and understanding of health-related behavior, but also puts forward hypotheses that were tested on a larger population as part of a second quantitative study involving 451 participants. Given this two-pronged methodological approach, we observe that people's healthcare-related behavior can indeed be analyzed in light of three joint factors, namely the individual's relationship to knowledge, doctors, and fatality

Full textWhat are the determinants of children self-evaluations? This is the question we tried to address in this thesis. Our goal was to understand self-evaluations as a whole. Hence, we were interested in both specific self-evaluations (i. E. , self-perceptions) and global selfevaluation (i. E. , self-esteem). In a first part, we studied specific self-evaluations construction in line with Cooley (1902) looking glass self hypothesis. According to this hypothesis, significant others’s actual appraisals have an effect on self-perceptions mediated by children perception of those actual appraisals. Our claim was that actual appraisal effect is specific to some domains and some significant others. The three presented studies gave empirical support to this hypothesis. In a second part, we studied global self-evaluation: self-esteem. In line with James’s (1890) idea, we were interested in ideal self effect on self-esteem. Our claim was that ideal self effect on self-esteem cannot be understood without taking into account a powerful moderator: the perceived control we think have over the achievement of ideal self. In this second part, the results of the four presented studies support this hypothesis. Taken together, these different studies allow us to study mediating and moderating processes carried out in children self-evaluations construction

Full textAs conventional MOSFET scaling is reaching its limits, several novel techniques are investigated to extend the CMOS roadmap. One of these techniques is the introduction of mechanical strain in the silicon transistor channel. Because strain changes the inter-atomic distances and thus the electronic band structure of silicon, ntype and p-type transistors with strained channels can show enhanced carrier mobility and performance. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and understand the effects of strain on the electronic properties of planar silicon-on-insulator MOSFETs for high-performance applications as well as the optimization of various stress techniques and their technological limitations. First, the effect of strain on the electronic band structure of silicon and the carrier mobility is studied systematically using the empirical pseudopotential method and the deformation potential theory. Strain-induced energy band splitting and band deformations alter the electron and hole mobility through modulated effective masses and modified scattering rates. The various concepts for strain generation inside the transistor channel are reviewed. The focus of this work is on strained overlayer films, strained Si1-xGex and Si1-yCy in the source/drain regions, stress memorization techniques and strained substrates. It is shown, that strained silicon based improvements are highly sensitive to the device layout and geometry. For that reason, numerical simulations are indispensable to analyze the efficiency of the strain techniques to transfer strain into the channel. In close relation with experimental work the results from detailed simulation studies including parameter variations and material analyses are presented, as well as a thorough investigation of critical parameters to increase the strain in the transistor channel. Thus, the process conditions and the properties of the fabricated devices can be optimized with respect to higher performance. In addition, technological limitations are discussed and the potential of the different strain techniques for further performance enhancements in future technology generations is evaluated. With the continuing reduction in device dimensions the detrimental impact of the parasitic source/drain resistance on device performance is quantified and projected to be the bottleneck for strain-induced performance improvements. Next, the effects from a combination of individual strain techniques are studied and their interactions or possible restrictions are highlighted. Finally, the transport properties in the low-field transport regime as well as under high electrical fields are analyzed and the notable differences between strained n-type and p-type transistors are discussed

De, vlieger Bertille. "Introspection des émotions et connaissance de soi." Thesis, Lille 3, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018LIL3H036/document.
Full textThis thesis examines emotional self-knowledge, its place as well as its participation in self-knowledge, the value it has for ordinary individuals and how ordinary individuals can obtain it. The examination of the nature of the emotions and the value that individuals place on the knowledge of their emotions, which is carried out in this thesis, highlights the importance of the acquisition of emotional-selfknowledge, as well as the link thet the latter is commonly heard to maintain with happiness. If the acquisition of this knowledge appears to be essential, it is not easy. It requires the unfurling of a number of cognitive abilities, as well as a significant cognitive effort, especially during the use of introspection. Indeed, this thesis exclusively discusses introspective access to emotional self-knowledge, and set aside other forms of access to self-knowledge. In this woek, I therefore question the practical but also moral scope of the use of introspection with regard to emotions, proposing a defense of the introspective process as a process capable of allowing an ordinary individual to detect, to identify and interpret one's own emotions. This thesis is therefore organized around two main arguments. The first of these arguments gives emotional self-knowledge a fundamental place in the form of self-knowledge that matters to ordinary people. The second defends the idea that introspection offers access ti this emotional knowledge, notably through the apprehension that its allows of the phenomenology of emotions, and that this access has a minimum reliability and therefore an epistemic value - even a weak one - as well as a moral and intrinsic value
