Quérini, Nicolas. "De la connaissance de soi au devenir soi : Platon-Nietzsche." Thesis, Strasbourg, 2020. http://www.theses.fr/2020STRAC019.
Full textWhile criticizing the Western morality anchored, according to him, in the Delphic sentence “Know yourself”, Nietzsche develops for his part an imperative which is, in our opinion, the natural and necessary extension of the self-knowledge. It is, therefore, from the injunction to become oneself that he operates the criticism of morality itself resulting from the invitation to self-knowledge. It is not, however, a question of reducing the Nietzsche an ethics of becoming-self to the way in which one can understand this syntagm in Plato. The use that Nietzsche proposes of it is indeed, in our opinion, quite singular. It cannot be denied, however, that it also did not come out of nothing and that Nietzsche first draws lessons from Pindar, who reinterprets himself the Delphic sentence, when he writes “Becomeas you have learned to know youself”. We therefore think that Nietzsche recovers Pindar’s formula beyond Plato, to criticize the latter and, through him, the whole philosophy which made self knowledge the departure of ethics. But we would therefore also try to do justice to Plato, since his philosophy actually frees the possibility of becoming ourself
Cassagnabère, Caroline. "La responsabilité envers soi-même." Rennes 1, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011REN1G003.
Full textThis concept arises when an individual attempts to harm himself. Although the principle of Responsibility towards oneself is not present in the French substantive law, a kind of reflexive responsibility can be observed in its different legal mechanisms that deal with responsibility. From ad hoc and restricted applications, the manifestations of responsibility towards oneself are however of a wide range. They reflect the hesitations in the French law between two contradictory approaches: preserving individual freedom and protecting the individual against himself. After concrete cases where this concept was interpreted are presented, questions are raised and a grid is proposed to analyze responsibility towards oneself in the French law. The search of criteria and foundations that are common to the different forms of this responsibility reveals a redefinition of the fault that requires a sanction of this self-damage. As a conclusion to our proof, this fault against oneself seems to rest on a duty to care to oneself

Full textEntitled “Self-khowledge, from the perspective of Socrates” this thesis intends to examine fundamental characteristics of the Socrates’ authentic approach to self-knowledge, and the utmost importance of it. Implementation of human life, as it deserves to be lived, in the Socratic sense of the word, is the essential purpose of this philosophical and spiritual commitment, which aims at giving back to the human being the ontological identity, of his own by essence. Therefore, Socrates always invited his interlocutors, and still now invites his readers, to search for this concrete identification, and to use their intellect in order to discover the most divine part of their soul. The self-knowledge problem in the Socrates’ perspective is questioned here, for it precisely comes from the soul knowledge, considered as the genuine one-self, bearing in it the heavenly imprint. Therefore, “to know one-self“ aims at contemplating the divine part of our one-self, which leads the man to his excellence, as such he is destined to become. The subjective aspect of this rational enterprise gives a guarantee of total independence to the individual seeking his one-self. It also allows him to acquire the knowledge that lies in him according to the “reminiscence theory, “hence the necessity for him is to take great care of this essential task of a human life, in order to give it a real human significance. To know what is intelligible, being an integral part of his research, “He who awakened the mind“developed in a wonderful manner essential tools of his practical philosophy which are: dialectics, refutation, maieutic, as supported by his Love, intending to let his fellow-men to get out of their “cave“ of ignorance, by inducing them to head for the intelligible world. It does not mean to seek an ideal with the hope to look like it, which unquestionably puts at risk the individual’s freedom, but to find out one’s own fulfilment in the most possible concrete and perfect way as an excellently accomplished human being. In this very context, self-knowledge, such as Socrates meant it, will be considered as the pre-eminent model of this accomplishment

Full textThe main purpose of this PhD work is to investigate the fundamentals of floating body effects (FBEs) in recent generations of ultrathin FDSOI devices. Several FBEs, (i) kink effect, (ii) gate-induced FBE, (iii) parasitic bipolar transistor, (iv) sharp switching, (v) current hysteresis, and (vi) transient and history effect (MSD), are scrutinized in terms of interaction between holes and electrons in ultrathin transistor body. The key point is that in an n-channel SOI MOSFET the FBEs are originated from the interplay of the excess holes which are either being stored or eliminated. For better understanding of FBEs, the body potential Vb has measured directly in H-gate body contact n-MOSFETs. The dynamic Vb variation has also been monitored successfully thanks to lateral P+ body contacts extended into the undoped-silicon film underneath the front-gate.Through the measurements of Vb, there are three major findings highlighted for the first time: (i) correlation between the onset of the FBEs and the Vb variation, (ii) new experimental evidence of super-coupling effect observed while the surface potential is changed from depletion to volume inversion, (iii) establishment of a new technique for extracting threshold voltage VT compared with the typical methods based on the current-voltage characteristics. Finally, innovative FDSOI devices such as back-gated InGaAs lateral N+NN+ MOSFET, and Z2-FET sensors, are characterized. We demonstrate the basic performance of the InGaAs-on-Insulator substrate by using Ψ-MOSFET technique. Sensing features of the Z2-FET are investigated under magnetic field or illumination

Full textThe following research highlights the relations between personality building processes and projet formation among adolescents. To unveil structural framework based upon a systemic concept of personality. The theory of inter-structuring process between the subject and the institutions underlies the approach. We chose to emphaze the issue of projet formation while focusing on two components of personality : identity (as related to self-esteem) and social competence. Identity, considered as a sub-systm of personality, operates through lifetime in relation to personal grouth. We define social competence using an inter-personal problem-solving model. The study has been conducted among youths of fourteen to sixteen years of age. The measuring instruments included : a self-esteem scale, a test of social-competence, a test designed to uncover project strategies and a questionaire geared toward scheduling issues, age and projet references. Results of the analysis show that high self-esteem is associated with a better handling of time (projects more sophisticated and more involving, broader perspectives). Morewer, the study demonstrates that high social competence conditions the choice for structured project strategies

Full textIn order to study how an individual expresses and invents himself in the Russian literature of the Romantic era, it is necessary to solve the problems connected with the peculiarities of the Russian cultural field. On the one hand, the various processes that were important for individualization in Western Europe (the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment) had in Russian history special, weakened forms. On the other hand, the secret confession, which, according to M. Foucault, is fundamental to the development of introspection in Europe, did not have much importance in the Russian Orthodox Church. In addition, autobiographical and autoreflexive practices are blocked in Russia by a variety of taboos, which are imposed by intellectual, cultural, and power circles. This raises the question of how Russian writers avoided all these limitations, when the author's self-expression had become extremely important in the European romantic literature. To answer to this question, we investigated various areas of literature, including peripheral: recognized and secondary genres, personal stories, translations, women's prose, texts written in French, etc. From this point of view, the romantic period is not just an epoch of transition, as it is often represented in the history of Russian literature, but the most important moment for affirming subjectivity in Russian culture

Full textThe home is a place of resistance to the integration of digital technologies in a coordinated form. As a place of resistance, it can also help to reveal new modes of interaction with digital technologies. This work therefore aims to understand how, by understanding the link between an inhabitant and his home, it would be possible to develop recommendations for successful integration of digital technologies in the home. This objective is twofold, and can be viewed from two perspectives : industrial and academic. From the academic point of view, it is to understand what "being home" means and draw a model to guide the interaction with technical devices in the digital home. From the industrial point of view, this is how and under what conditions it is possible to deploy new kinds of services based on digital technologies in the home. This work begins with two theoretical chapters, respectively focused on the home concept (1) and digital technologies (2). After a chapter on tools and methods used (3), two chapters present the empirical work conducted as part of this thesis. They are grouped in the second part of this work. This second part is composed of one part in a chapter with a series of ethnographic observations of timing (back home and leaving home) and an interview (4) and also in a chapter devoted to the presentation of a draft design of a service platform for housing (5). The third part of the thesis consists of two chapters; the first (6) synthesizes elements of Chapter 1, of those, empirical, of Chapter 4, for definition of the home and dwelling. The final chapter (7) raises a number of recommendations on the basis elements from Chapters 2 and 5
Elgriani, Nadia. "La représentation de soi de l'"ex-prisonnier"." Paris 5, 2008. http://www.theses.fr/2008PA05H083.
Full textIn our work, we tried to analyze the representation of the self. We asked ourselves what were the basis on which that representation hinged. In our comprehensive sociological research we tried to analyze the different modes on which the identity of the "ex-prisoner" could be built. Upon such basis we tried to analyze the building up of the image of the Self. This representation could not only be built from the relationship it entertained with itself. We analyzed it from the mediation of the other. The same other is at the heart of the representation of the Self from the standpoint of the "ex-prisoner". The otherness is an ambivalent figure which can play either the part of a friend or the part of the enemy. The "ex-prisoner "has with the other bonds of friendships or conflictual relationships. Nonetheless, the ex-prisoner" cannot cope with the relationship he entertains with the other to gain an idea of his own Self. The image of the "ex-prisoner" is not a mere "etiquette" linked to his own self, it is an added value. It is the society, the others who convey the image of the Self to the individual. There is a social role at stake. The social role is not a mere manifestation of the child; it grows with society and is strongly linked with the "ex-prisoner". Society is a great comedy; every actor plays its own role and wears its own mask. Comedy, masquerade, duplicity, each perspective forms up a comprehensive entity of the representation of the "ex-prisoner». Far from being theoretical, the representation of the Self is a practical reality which enables the "ex-prisoner" to understand, act and transform his own daily life. In conclusion it enables the "ex-prisoner" to adapt socially

Full textUnlike others XVIIth century philosophers, Spinoza seems to have expressly ignored the concept of self-consciousness, one of the most important novelties of the Cartesian doctrine. The aim of this work is to demonstrate, against this assumption that Spinoza’s theory of human knowledge depends on a new concept of thinking subject, which involves self-consciousness, i. E. , the capacity of self-reference through which the human mind apprehends itself as the subject of its own ideas. Nevertheless, as this concept is not completely developed by Spinoza himself, it will be necessary to reconstruct it. We propose first a reinterpretation of his theory of finite beings, stressing on the dynamic character of Spinoza’s ontology, in order to understand how a finite mode of the unique substance can be considered as a subject of modifications. Setting on this next basis the ontological comprehension of singularity, self-consciousness will appear as the expression, in the attribute of thought, of human conatus. We will see indeed that self-reference is the way by which human mind actually exists as one and the same

Songs are the genuine driving force of all social and economic activities, and as such, they have to be understood as expressing the Congolese thought. They are deeply rooted in the folklore of the peoples. The imaginary and the collective utopia are dealt with by the Congolese singer who discloses his soul, asks for advice and gives some if need be. Not only does the singer benefit from such an exercise, but his fellow creatures as well. It befalls him to advise, educate, recall the principles of wisdom to build a better life. Full textMust free self-determination accept limits imposed by law? A first approach, instinctive, is to answer in the negative because the Law would not have vocation to interfere in the intimate relations that one maintains with oneself and which consequently does not concern the society. However, we must face the obvious: the law is legitimate to intervene in the free disposition of oneself because the intimacy is porous, and leaves between the meshes the presence of others, which authorizes the public authorities to intervene punctually in this area a priori dedicated to privacy. It is on the basis of public order that the legislator or judges determine whether free self-determination can flourish without danger for others or for the general interest. This public order, in its classical components ofleadership and protection, nevertheless appears to be struggling to contain the individual wishes that express themselves with conviction. Both the judge and the legislator have accordingly turned to another legal instrument ofa nature to regulate the free disposition of oneself. More recent, the dignity of the human person comes to protect thefree disposition of individuals in situation of weakness; or on the contrary, to limit the free disposition of oneself, protecting the person against his will. The second meaning of dignity is the one that predominates in the hands of thelegislator and the judges, leaving the free disposition of oneself at the mercy of a little nuanced instrument. We musttherefore look for a legal instrument that will ensure social cohesion without extinguishing individual aspirations. Itis a particularly delicate balance to find in that these two objectives are most often diametrically opposed. Research must be oriented towards public order because it is an eminently evolving concept. It is a public order that must beof direction, given the facts that it accompanies, with all the firmness required, individuals in the discovery of the options that are most favorable to them and that it is not intended to to protect at all costs the free disposition ofoneself. Its adaptability to the circumstances of the case is made possible by the application of the principle of proportionality in concreto. This new public order would finally be nothing but an empty shell, without the objectiveof the common good, which makes it possible to discriminate between the licit and unlawful uses of free self determination.Framed by the public order of direction of the person, the latter can express himself without endangering the individual or the society

Full textThe dazzling growth of biological sciences, whose societal impacts might not have been well enough anticipated by the international law, has created conceptual conflicts that should be apprehended in constructive debates, respectful of the richness of individual differences, so as to avoid any ideological compartmentalization, which will be of no benefit to Humanity. The analysis of the roots of the concept of personal data and of the evolution of its acceptance, sends back to the very long and difficult journey from the very first European founding texts to the consecration of the right to privacy rooted in the obstinacy of its two defenders SW and LB whose seminal works have impacted international law as a whole. Personal information identified as data, has become coveted resources by the worlds of economy, electronic business, biomedicine and criminology. The dematerialization of individual characteristics brought with it an immense wave of issues and conflicts in relation with procedures of collection, processing, circulation and confidentiality of this type of data, especially when it dealt with sensitive identifiers such as genetic data. Technically unattainable until now, the secrets of life and heredity are currently being offered to the general public, who often finds itself powerless when facing companies willing to exploit the richness of their intimate self. The newly revealed potentialities of human genetic engineering, has put forth the weakness and inefficiencies of outdated legal and normative texts which, because of their inadequacy to societal evolution, lead to rigid divisions of principles before genetic technologies who aspire to take advantage of the understanding of genomes in order to improve the well being of people. It is necessary, today, to remove any passionate feeling to temper emotional debates by redefining, as soon as possible, the legal status of genetic data and the information that their exploitation can deliver

Full textSelf-recognition in a mirror, on a recent photography or on a pre-recorded video film is a sign of the existence of a self-awareness which is required for social relations, self-care and self-esteem. This study shows that the loss of selfrecognition in senile dementia of the alzheimer type is related to the severity of the disease. Our results confirmthe hypothesis based on studies with infants according to which contingency cues in the mirror condition facilitate selfrecognition. It is obvious that ad patients show what ajuriaguerra calls "regression" of the capacity to self-recognize. Such difficulties are present in normal aged subjects. The results raise the question of the neuropsychological troubles underlying the loss of self-recognition, specially the existence of agnosia (or prosopagnosia) : most of the patients who do not self-recognize in the video test, recognize a familiar face. Moreover, ad patients do not show covert self-recognition, while prosopagnosics do so. Results on enrichment sessions of self-recognition incorporating mirror training and emphasizing contingent feeback, suggest that in geriatric unities, aged patients may be cared in front of a mirror in order to maintain, or reinforce this capacity

Full textIn this study, the author suggests the possibility of understanding shakespeare's drama, particularly the tragedies of hamlet and macbeth, in the light of platonic trend. E. Spenser and ph. Sidney dealt with neoplatonism in the english renaissance. A poet was then considered as a humanist, according to his capability to conceive compatibility between all kinds of knowledge through his art. The study of the tragedy of hamlet reveals an echo of literary myths. Thus it is a doublet in which oedipus myth and the myths in the republic-plato's den and the vision of er-are mingled. Some similitudes between this tragedy and macbeth do then appear. Both they belong to the platonic universe, to the world of appearances - the "world of sight" -. Finally, macbeth and hamlet happen to know their "rea- lity". In these two lyric drama versions of the shakespeare's ontology, the he- roes are pragmatical statesmen, endowed with machiavelian "virtu". Hamlet chooses

Full textThe object of the research presented in this dissertation is to analyse voluntary changes in professional orientations. The search of another employment is not a rare and marginal experience as it was in the past. The attempts to change professional orientations multiply and voluntary professional changes are ever more present in our society. Moreover, this incitation to a personal experience of "vocation of oneself" that every one wants to live has reached all socio-professional categories. This dissertation pledges for a sociology of the individual. Individuals are the main actors of their own professional changes. They become actors of their own biography and take a turning point in their path to realize their vocation. We present here the process of voluntary professional change of orientation constructed by individuals. This process is understood as a dialectic relation between oneself and significant others in order to succeed their change of jobs and to reach their vocation

Full textWhat are the determinants of children self-evaluations? This is the question we tried to address in this thesis. Our goal was to understand self-evaluations as a whole. Hence, we were interested in both specific self-evaluations (i. E. , self-perceptions) and global selfevaluation (i. E. , self-esteem). In a first part, we studied specific self-evaluations construction in line with Cooley (1902) looking glass self hypothesis. According to this hypothesis, significant others’s actual appraisals have an effect on self-perceptions mediated by children perception of those actual appraisals. Our claim was that actual appraisal effect is specific to some domains and some significant others. The three presented studies gave empirical support to this hypothesis. In a second part, we studied global self-evaluation: self-esteem. In line with James’s (1890) idea, we were interested in ideal self effect on self-esteem. Our claim was that ideal self effect on self-esteem cannot be understood without taking into account a powerful moderator: the perceived control we think have over the achievement of ideal self. In this second part, the results of the four presented studies support this hypothesis. Taken together, these different studies allow us to study mediating and moderating processes carried out in children self-evaluations construction

Full textThis thesis presents "the dynamic representation of the self" from the elaboration of a pattern (the capacity factor pattern) which takes into account the phenomena of congruence betweenthe objective capability and the subjective capability necessary for the activation of a representation of the self. The "competence of action" variable with its induced effects (socio emotional activation) and produced effects (social image of the self) seems to be a fundamental intermediate variable in the working of the representation of the self. Positively activated it entails a representational acuteness allowing the subject to define his her image but also the context and the means available for the elaboration of strategies of the identity. This can beillustrated by two studies : one in the laboratory and the other in a natural situation. The creation of a "professional group" in the crisis allows the demonstration of the actualisation of the social competence as a form of social legitimation. This study also raises the question of the influence of non emotional factors in the construction of the representation of the self

Full textSelf-deception poses a notable challenge for any theory of rationality, given that the self-deceiver appears to embrace a deceptive belief knowing of it’s deceptive nature. This is at least what is claimed by those who hold an « intentionalist » account (Sartre, Davidson, Pears, Talbott, Scott-Kakures, Bermudez), who tend to portray self-deception as an intentional act for which the self-deceiver should be held accountable. Instead, I hold a so-called « emotionalist » account according to which self-deception is a sub-intentional and involuntary process of cognitive illusion which stems from the influence our emotions may insidiously exert on our cognitive faculties, and thereby on our judgments. That leads me to develop a « cognitive-hedonic » theory of emotions with the purpose of showing how exactly our emotions are capable of inducing not only irrational beliefs, but even irrational actions (acrasia)

Full textThis study of both the individual and sentiment was guided by a general description of the growing and continuous awareness of the "cogito" from Descartes to Rousseau. This characterization stands out for the move from thinking subject to feeling subject as the emergence and constitution of the idea of sentiment. It reveals a completely novel conception of individualité: sentiment is the mark of the interiority of the feeling being. It expresses this through a new representation of the relation to the self. As in modern times the relation to the self has been defined by the pure presence of self, the idea of sentiment reveals a new aspect of existence. The existence of the individual is the existence for the self means an innate self understanding

Full textThe object of this work of thesis is a reflection on the way the subject can build itself in the adolescence, with its disease. I leave the postulate that about is the somatic chronic disease, mechanisms would be common to all the teenagers confronted with this disease " since always there ". My research work leans on seven teenagers hospitalized in our unity care-studies. The process of subjectivation for these teenagers implies to compose with a " work of the disease ". A possible work of subjectivation of the parents as " parents of a sick child " can allow them not to find itself in dead end in their search for identity. It is a question for these teenagers of regaining control the history of their disease to provide subject future. After the burglary aroused by the disease arrives the puberty, one moment of physical changes which does not save the teenagers affected by a chronic disease, in spite of the fantasy of some patients in this connection. The sick body becomes a pubescent body with the disease and with the juvenile reorganizations. It seems necessary that a feeling of envelope " good enough " was able to establish during the childhood, to allow the teenager not to feel too much not secure. I meet the teenagers in a particular context: they are hospitalized for care, but also for their studies, and are thus separated from their family. The teenager makes a commitment from then on in an initiative of care, first step towards a demand of reflection to arrest better his disease and understand how to build itself with her. Our work of accompaniment also supports them thus in the process of subjectivation, by committing for certain teenagers a real subjective reintegration

Full textVladimir Nabokov, Romain Gary and Philip Roth are three 20th century writers who have different geographical, cultural and theoretical backgrounds. However, their works and their conceptions of fiction share many similarities: a cosmopolite sensibility, a reflection on writing memory, a strong interest in mystification, and a specific relation to language that endows words with a strong power of incarnation. These writers have their characters voice their reflection on exile and acculturation, as well as on the impossibility of self-coincidence, in relation to their multilingualism or Jewish identity. Nabokov, Gary and Roth distrust identity labels, and therefore share the same ambition : to create their own self, to rethink patrimonial identity by replacing it with a reflexive, dynamic one. Because fiction operates different forms of transgression (filial, generic, ontological), fiction becomes a place for the writer to create a serial self-portrait, where biography is constantly constructed and deconstructed. The multi-faceted self finds its incarnation in conversely multiple characters, some of them being sometimes polemical, and it enables the surfacing of a truth on oneself. This truth can only be found “between the lines”, in-between languages and in the polyphony of writing. Language itself becomes a hiding-place where the writer tries to retrieve the voices of the departed

Full textFrom Virginia Woolf s assertion according to which a room of one's own is required to the writing of a work of fiction, the present thesis questions the subjective need for a space of one' s own. It aims at providing a new definition of the concept of home that would take into account the Freudian discovery of the unconscious. In this respect, the author conceives space as an object of research in the field of psychoanalysis by showing that space is at the heart of psychic processes, that it is related to consideration of presentability and proceeds of the register of nearness, by reference to the figure of Nebenmensch. This reading of the notion of home lays upon the way space is put into play within transference in various situations where access to a space of one's own is at stake. Through the evocation of asylum seekers' life stories and clinicat work in a day center, the author will unfold three dimensions of home as a space being necessary to the subject. The first dimension takes the warranty of the indigestible part of Nebenmensch as a prerequisite rendering home possible. A second dimension shows how home can be a space allowing for the treatment of loss, namely that of instinctual objects. A third dimension which holds that space is at the heart of the "action of form". Home thereafter emerges as a space allowing dream
