Full textThis paper shows that Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) systems can be developed at lower costs, less risk and with a faster time to market than a traditional developed IT system. The primary reason for this is that SOA enables reuse; by loosely coupled reusable services and business processes.
However, this is not the main benefit; still a great side effect. SOA can and should deliver good value for the business. The main benefit with SOA is therefore to create new and better opportunities for the business. Today’s rapid changes and fierce competition increases the importance of flexible enterprises; SOA has the ability to develop and modify services quickly which leads to flexible and thus winning enterprises.
It is important to keep in mind that SOA is an architecture, not a technology. Like any other architecture one finds value over time; long term thinking is important in the implementation of SOA.
This paper also covers a number of technologies common in SOA, and a prototype to show how these technologies can be implemented in a SOA system.

Full textO crescimento do tamanho, complexidade e demanda por qualidade dos sistemas de software são alguns dos motivos que tem aumentado o interesse na área de arquitetura de software. Consequentemente, processos de arquitetura de software surgiram a fim de auxiliar os arquitetos na construção dessas arquiteturas. Arquitetura Orientada a Serviços (SOA) surgiu como um tipo de arquitetura de software para construir sistemas através da composição de serviços. Assim como o paradigma de orientação a objetos, o paradigma de orientação a serviços tem trazido uma abordagem de projeto distinta que introduz princípios que governam o posicionamento e o projeto dos componentes arquiteturais. Além disso, SOA é um paradigma para organização e utilização de capacidades distribuídas que podem estar sob o controle de diferentes domínios. No contexto empresarial, SOA permite que organizações, que tenham uma infra-estrutura de aplicações fragmentadas sob a administração de diferentes áreas de negócio, possam integrar estas aplicações no nível de serviço. Por um lado, os processos de arquitetura tradicionais não abrangem estes aspectos de SOA. Por outro lado, as abordagens de SOA disponíveis não satisfazem todos os fundamentos da arquitetura de software. Neste sentido, esta dissertação propõe um processo sistemático de arquitetura de software baseado em SOA que compreende os principais fundamentos da arquitetura de software e características inerentes a SOA a fim de guiar os arquitetos na construção de uma descrição arquitetural para SOA. Adicionalmente, um estudo experimental foi definido, planejado, executado e analisado a fim de avaliar o processo proposto

Full textService-oriented computing is an emerging IT innovation. Among its manifestations is service-oriented architecture (SOA), an approach to designing and implementing IT solutions. Organizations adopting SOA are facing implementation challenges. Examining factors affecting SOA adoption at an organizational level can reduce uncertainty about SOA, its advantages and disadvantages, and implementation issues. This study uses quantitative analysis to investigate organizational SOA adoption in South Africa from DOI theory and TOE framework perspectives. Results highlight a number of factors influencing SOA adoption: use of multiple standards and platforms, complexity, compatibility, cost, top management support, good governance and strategy, adequate human and financial resources, vendor support for integration and development tools.

Full textBusiness value is ambiguous and very hard to define, but it is something that all enterprises strive for.The thesis focuses on specific quality characteristics defined by ISO / IEC FDIS 25010:2010 chapter "Quality in use". The thesis aims to evaluate the qualitative attributes and to find out if SOA (Service Oriented Architecture) contributes to these and in what aspect of business value. To answer the question it was relevant to define Business Value, Qualitative value and SOA.Our results are based on four qualitative interviews from respondents who have participated in a successful SOA project and have knowledge about SOA and it’s connection to business value in various aspects.We see indications that SOA contributes to the selected qualitative characteristics based on the litterature and result. The result also indicates that SOA contributes to qualitative value and that it is the driving force behind the pursuit of business value.

Full textThis thesis emphasizes on investigating the relationship between the quality attributes and service oriented architecture (SOA). Due to quality attributes requirements drive the design of software architecture, it is necessary to maintain the positive quality of SOA and improve the negative quality of SOA. This thesis gives an introduction to SOA, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and MULE. Then, it covers information on quality of systems and tactics for achieving each quality attribute. Finally, we discuss the quality of SOA in detail, and illustrate how to set up a SOA and how to improve its quality using a case of an order for supermarket.
