Abstract:
The article touches upon an important problem for modern Russian society - the patriotic education of student youth. Solving this issue, it is necessary to consider this area, taking into account various aspects at this stage of the formation of the state, namely: the level of patriotism and patriotic feelings among the students, the main sources of knowledge about their homeland, the visualization of its image by young people, identifying the most memorable events that make more young people are proud of their country. The purpose of the work is to empirically substantiate the need for patriotic education of modern student youth as an important postulate of the spiritual revival of the nation. The term "patriotism" is mentioned in many fundamental sciences, in connection with which each scientist interprets it in his own way. However, any statement is based on the following basis - pride in one's Motherland, its success in the political arena, as well as victories in the sports and scientific fields, active citizenship, selflessness and devotion to one's state in the event of a danger that has arisen for it, conscious and all-consuming love to its people, its cultural characteristics and traditions. The proof of the above is the results of a sociological study conducted at the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies of the Central Russian Institute of Management - a branch of the RANEPA on the topic "Patriotic education of youth". This study covered such categories as "patriotism", "patriotic education", "image of the Motherland", "national spirit", "historical memory", "national identity". It is summarized that the patriotic education of student youth consists of various components, but its conscious position and the knowledge about the Motherland that were laid and continue to be in its mind at various stages of personality development are paramount.

Abstract:
The article is a review of the book by K. Clment Patriotism from Below. How Is It Possible That People Are So Poor in the Rich Country? (Moscow: NLO, 2021. 232 p.). The book is based on the results of the research project aimed at the detailed description of different types of everyday Russian patriotism with the help of the qualitative approach (in fact, case studies and semi-formalized interviews were conducted, although the book presents them as ethnographic research and in-depth interviews). The book identifies and describes the following types of the grassroot Russian patriotism which does not always coincide with the state patriotic discourse (patriotism from above): non-state and state everyday patriotism, non-patriotism, detached patriotism, and local patriotism. The review identifies both the undoubted merits of the book and its conceptual, methodological and analytical limitations which can become a starting point for further sociological studies of discursive practices and behavioral patterns of Russians, especially of those living in the Russian hinterland (depressed peripheral regions of the country).

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a study of the relationship between a number of socio-political dispositions of young people with variants of everyday patriotic ideas in terms of «civil» vs «protective» patriotism. For the empirical base of the study the authors used the data of a survey of young people aged 18-30 years, conducted in September 2020 in the Penza region (N=530). Based on the results of the study, it was found that the options for attitudes towards the country on the scale of «civil» vs «protective» patriotism, in connection with their characteristic socio-political dispositions, are systemic integrities that have both positive and negative characteristics, if we evaluate these variants in terms of their consolidation potential, that is so much in demand in the current situation. The civilian version of patriotism contains a serious resource for the development of the country in all areas, but it does not have any significant potential for nationwide consolidation. This variant of patriotism is extremely important and in demand during the period of sustainable development of society in favourable political and economic conditions, but is fraught with risks of fragmentation of the community into separate, explicitly or implicitly conflicting groups in critical situations. The protective version of patriotism is characterised by the vision of the Russian socio-cultural environment as a closed self-sufficient system. This does not provide a significant potential for the socio-economic and socio-cultural development of the country. The most serious drawback of the protective version of patriotism is the risk of its gradual degeneration into chauvinism. At the same time, the protective version of patriotism has a serious potential for the consolidation of almost all layers and groups of the Russian population. During periods of peaceful development of society in favourable external and internal conditions, this variant of patriotism is little in demand and even undesirable, but in critical situations, the protective variant of patriotism can become relevant and popular.

Abstract:
This article is based on the results of a sociological study of Saratov’s youth, conducted by means of mass survey. Examined are the theoretical approaches towards analyzing patriotism as a social phenomenon based on the notion of its multi-variance. The substantive content of the term “patriotism” is defined to a significant degree by those values which young people appreciate. It is shown that the diversity of value dominants creates seven models of patriotic attitudes: abstract patriotism, traditional, local (including household), liberal, democratic, critical and globalist anti-patriotism. Temporally all of these models shift in different and often times opposite directions. The older one gets – the more “abstract” and “traditional” models of patriotism diminish in terms of their importance, while local and liberal models grow, on the contrary (however, the proportion of household patriotism, which is included into the local category, does decrease). The process of maturing for young people is typically accompanied by a decreasing significance of the anti-patriotic interpretation. Young people’s patriotism usually manifests itself in everyday life, and less commonly in political and celebratory activities. The younger generation takes the utmost pride in our World War 2 victory, as well as the culture and history of their country. The fact that upbringing has the greatest effect on developing patriotism among young people is confirmed. Other influential factors include (in order of diminishing importance) public organizations, structures of government power, mass media, the education system, religion. The authors’ analysis of the influence of patriotic events revealed that the greatest contributing factor to developing patriotism is when young people meet with veterans of various wars. Second place in that rating of effectiveness goes to watching feature films and reading books. All of Russian society’s social institutions appear to have vast unrealized potential when it comes to cultivating patriotic sentiments and views among young people. In order to fully realize this potential, the authors suggest not only drastically changing our perspective on such an issue as patriotism, but also initiating active work in regions and in local communities, assisting patriotic associations, clubs and other organizations focused on patriotism, paying close attention to the activities of educational institutions, intensifying patriotic work with students on behalf of the armed forces, and, finally, prompting mass media to radically change their perspective on patriotism and patriotic upbringing.

It is determined that the most integrative potential for the successful completion of democratic transit in Ukraine is a model of citizenship patriotism, based on a high level of citizenship competence of individuals (which implies a well-grounded positive assessment of the national realities, the attitude of conscious fulfilment of civil duties and active position of citizens in the field of protection of public interest).

Abstract:
The article studies a theoretical and methodological analysis of the works of Russian sociologists involved in the study of patriotism. The purpose of the theoretical research work is an attempt to develop a methodological apparatus for constructing a specific sociological study of patriotism in modern Russian society through systematisation of key approaches to the interpretation of the concept of patriotism, analysis of typologies of this phenomenon and comprehension of existing methodological developments in empirical studies of patriotism. The initiating step of immersion in the designated discourse was an appeal to the definitions of patriotism. An analysis of the works of Russian sociologists made it possible to identify four groups of definitions similar in content, where patriotism is understood as an emotional feeling, a social feeling, a value and a state resource. The variety of interpretations of patriotism gives rise to a variety of typologies of patriotism, identified in the course of research reflection. Of methodological interest is the classification of patriotism proposed by prof. I. A. Khaliy within the framework of the activity-activist paradigm. The authors of the article, referring to the wide variability of types of patriotism, pay special attention to false patriotism as an independent phenomenon, reflected in the discourse of sociological science. The conducted theoretical research allows us to formulate the author’s definition of patriotism. Patriotism is understood as an individual’s feeling of his entry into some supra-individual unity, that performs identification and integrative functions and is represented in 1) attitude, i.e., the emotional side of this entry, 2) awareness, i.e., understanding of this identification as a value, and also 3) activity, i.e. defending it in the form of actions aimed at protecting the components of unity common to all its members. The complexity of operationalising the concept of patriotism lies not only in the diversity of research approaches, but in the understanding of patriotism in the mass consciousness of modern Russians as multivariate and ambiguous, that is reflected in the available body of empirical material. The analysed methodological foundations of empirical research allow us to conclude that the application of the axiological approach is promising in the sociological study of patriotism with the addition of its aspects of identification and sociocultural components, based on the definition of patriotism as a value significant to the individual and focused on the interpretation of patriotism in the consciousness of the individual through understanding the reasons for the formation of one or another of its forms.

Abstract:
The article highlights some issues connected with the content and formation of patriotism in modern student youth. The importance of the task of the patriotic education of the younger generation in the activities of all institutions of socialization is underlined. The notion ‘patriotism’ is considered on the basis of the definitions found in the scientific literature. Taking into account the results of the sociological poll of the student youth studying at the higher educational institutions of the Republic of Buryatia, conducted by the author in 2023, the characteristic of the group on the levels of valuable consciousness and behavior is given. It is pointed out that the majority of young people realize high significance of patriotism value, the necessity of its education from the childhood, consider themselves to be patriots, express indifference to the society problems, but there are several shortcomings in patriotic group culture revealing, first of all, the detached position of some young people from the society on the level of behavioral attitudes. Much work in the students’ patriotic education is specified to be done by the higher educational institutions today. The suggestions aimed at the increase of effectiveness of that work are made: formation and implementation of the well-thought-out educational system; support of the patriotic societies created today at the universities; competent application of the technology of socio-cultural projecting with the students’ involving into the process of creating and implementing projects; high quality, meaningfulness of the conducted events.

Abstract:
The subject of the study is patriotism. The author conducted a theoretical analysis of domestic and foreign scientific literature on the problem of patriotism. The features of approaches to the study of this phenomenon in the framework of philosophical, sociological, historical, psychological, pedagogical and psychological disciplines are considered in detail. A comparative analysis of the theoretical views of foreign and domestic authors on the content and nature of patriotism is carried out. An analysis of the literature allows us to conclude that Western and Russian studies of patriotism have many connotations, especially in the sociological and political sciences. Western and domestic scientists have identified similar essential signs of patriotism: patriotism as one of the highest feelings, as a creative feeling; patriotism as selfless work for the benefit of one's country, as a manifestation of higher feelings in action, as a duty to the country; patriotism as a deeply social phenomenon, as a civic virtue. The author conducts a comparative theoretical analysis of foreign and domestic approaches to the study of the problem of patriotism, understanding the psychological nature of this phenomenon. The main conclusions of the study are: in the studies of foreign scientists, patriotism is analyzed in the context of national and social issues and is practically not studied as a personal education, property or quality; at the heart of patriotism, most foreign authors note identification with their country based on feelings of love, pride and shame. In the West, patriotism is seen as a phenomenon of political awareness, quite closely related to nationalism. In Russian literature, such essential signs of patriotism as statehood and personality, which is the main subject of patriotism, are noted. The differences in the interpretation of the concept of "patriotism" and in approaches to its research can be explained by fundamental differences in culture and state and political traditions. In turn, the intersections in the definition of patriotism indicate that this phenomenon has certain interethnic and interstate features. The question of studying remains open and quite relevant.

Abstract:
The article investigates the reasons for rejection of patriotism during the preparation and the collapse of the Soviet Union. Among them we distinguish the material and other possibilities of so-called “offshore aristocracy” for the management of public opinion in order to maintain their status through the destruction of sacred relationship to the history and the state, which was inherent to the Soviet mentality. The loss of spiritual base could lead to the destruction of the Russian Federation according to the scenario of the Soviet Union, that’s why the government - unable to find a new national idea – had to appeal to the people’s exploit during the Great Patriotic War as a manifestation of the highest level of patriotism. Since the beginning of the 2000`s, patriotic education becomes the direction of public policy. Its effectiveness can be measured through the empirically observable indicators of attitude to historical events and modernity. The author believes that the historical memory is a necessary, but insufficient condition for the patriotism formation. Patriotism of everyday life is the feature that brings social stability to the state. The article presents the data of sociological research of the youth’s attitudes to the Great Patriotic War, which was conducted in Nizhniy Novgorod in 2015. The author comes to the conclusion that as a result of wide-ranging preparation to 70th anniversary of the Victory, the historical memory was actualized. However, the question remains how long it will be possible to maintain the historical identity in the face of increasing social and economic crisis.

Three magazines of the 19th century are considered as models of historical and patriotic publications. S. N. Glinka’s «Russkiy Vestnik» was devoted to issues of national identity and pursued the goals of national education. N. I. Grech’s “Syn Otechestva” developed “permitted” military-patriotic themes for three years, and from 1815, it turned into a typical literary and artistic magazine. P. P. Svinin’s “Otechestvnnye zapiski” that came out after the Napoleonic wars sought to popularize various aspects of national life. During the analysis, the vulgar sociological assessments of Soviet literary criticism of three magazines are corrected and the modern understanding of patriotism, associated with the term “conservatism”, is characterized.

Abstract:
The article deals with the analysis of the problem of patriotic education in the process of youth socialization in conditions of hybrid warfare. Based on their own personal many-years’ experience as educators and top-officials of the higher educational establishment which had been displaced from the military zone in the east of Ukraine and implementing a number of sociological methods of research, the authors state that patriotism can essentially influence the formation of an individual’s political culture in general identifying his attitude to the history, traditions and religious preferences of his nation, to the evaluation of the nation’s place and role in the modern world. The authors arrive at the conclusion that patriotism determines political orientations of an individual towards the political institutions of a society, towards a political system as well as towards an individual’s personal participation in the political life. A special emphasis is made on the idea that in modern Ukraine which actually faces Russia’s hybrid warfare in Donbas, patriotism serves as the most important value which does not only integrate a social potential of an individual but also his spiritual, moral and cultural potentials.

The purpose of the work is to empirically substantiate the need to form the values and meanings of patriotism among new generations of youth entering into life. Such work of state and non-state actors can become a certain foundation for the participation of new generations in the creative development of society, in counteracting destruction among the youth. A special place in the work is given to the patriotism of young representatives of the middle class, who have the most expressed civic position compared to the rest of the youth, which directly correlates with the value of patriotism. The result of the work was the author's interpretation of patriotism as a conscious attachment of new generations in love for their homeland, historical heritage and traditions of their country formed by state and public institutions. The evidence base of the study is based on the results of sociological research conducted at the Department of Sociology and Social Technologies. These studies reflect: 1) a holistic sociological portrait of modern youth, 2) features of generational self-identification, 3) socio-political and leisure preference of youth in the region. A special place in the work is given to the patriotism of young representatives of the middle class, as a potential for the development of modern society. It is summarized that true patriotism is generated by an inner feeling of a conscious and voluntarily accepted position of a person on the basis of individual freedom, prompted to specific socially significant actions.

Abstract:
In modern conditions of globalization and the introduction of the Internet into the daily life of young people, there is a blurring of the value of patriotism in the mass consciousness of young people. This process takes place in the time when one of the main directions of the implementation of the national state youth policy is directly related to patriotic education. The article is based on the materials of a sociological study of the subjective understanding of patriotism in the minds of regional youth involved in the process of patriotic education. On a targeted sample, 345 respondents aged 14 to 30, living in the Yaroslavl region and carrying out activities within the framework of patriotic education, were interviewed. The results of the empirical study lead to a number of conclusions. First, the vast majority of the surveyed respondents identify themselves as patriots of their country. At the same time, girls are more willing than boys to call themselves patriots. Secondly, a clear idea of patriotism has not been formed in the minds of young people. Thirdly, the associative component is also poorly represented in the image of a patriot - the respondents could not name a “true” patriot and an “antipatriot”, which indicates the absence of a single reference group in the youth environment. Fourthly, the main feature of young people, involved in the process of patriotic education, reveals the fact that they do not only identify themselves as patriots, but are also ready for active volunteer work as well. Fifth, respondents highly appreciate the work of state institutions specializing in patriotic education. As a recommendation, we can propose to pay more attention to the introduction of modern multimedia technologies in the educational sphere.

Abstract:
Following the results of a sociological study conducted in 2018 by means of questionnaire method with a probability quota sample (N=420), this article analyzes the various interpretations of patriotism according to public opinion in the city of Saratov. It has been established that, according to its inhabitants, the word “Homeland” most often implies Russia, “small homeland” – one’s own city or family (less often one’s home neighborhood). The meaningful interpretation of this term is associated with socially significant activity, activism, and social responsibility. Basic displays of patriotism, according to respondents, are considered to be army service, patriotic upbringing of one’s children, abidance to the law and diligent work for society’s benefit. Most of Saratov’s inhabitants consider themselves to be patriots to one degree or another. However, what’s concerning is the fact that one out of every three city residents – especially among youths – denies such values. Youth patriotism is more oriented towards love for Russia. The elder generation builds its patriotic sentiments around love for their families, close ones, their home town and the USSR. Meanwhile most citizens (albeit to various degrees) draw a distinction between the terms “patriotism” and “nationalism”. The latter bears more of a negative connotation. Generally citizens (especially among the elder generation) believe that, after the USSR’s downfall, the teaching of patriotic values has “degenerated”, despite the government and the president taking certain steps towards increasing the level of patriotism within society. It is during such periods of change, like we are witnessing today, when the values of preceding generations start to contradict reality, and when the younger generation assumes the role of bearer of new knowledge and aspirations, due to possessing a more acute sense of society’s major issues and the will to openly speak out. Thereby not only the elder generation, but also the younger generation plays an equal role as a subject of developing society’s patriotic values. However, the profound differences between generations are proportional to the dynamics and scale of change within society, and the degree of mutual influence between generations acts as one of the major factors for stabilizing society, which includes establishing patriotic values. Increasing the efficiency of practices in this area, together with more extensive coverage of such practices in mass media and the internet, would aid in the development of historical and socio-cultural memory.

Abstract:
The article presents the author's vision of patriotism, which in the modern geopolitical situation of Russia has moved from the theoretical plane to the practical and political ones. At present, the political rhetoric and scientific and journalistic discourse of discussing patriotism has shifted from considering it as the basis of the national idea, a marker of the all-Russian identity or a priority political value, which was characteristic of the political elite and scholars in the first decade of the 2000s, to the activity approach related to the protection of the Fatherland and its traditional values. Based on the regional approach, the paper gives a brief analysis of the republican law on patriotic education, highlights regional and ethno-national specificity of patriotic education in a multi-ethnic republic. Examples show how the information is presented and how the problem of patriotism is discussed. Based on the results of expert and mass sociological surveys, conclusions are drawn about the effectiveness and problematic points of patriotic education in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, and the role of educational and cultural strategies in shaping the value basis of the all-Russian national identity, which includes patriotism, is shown.

Abstract:
Introduction. The article examines the problem of productive cooperation between family and school aimed at the development of civic identity and patriotism in Kumandin adolescents as representatives of indigenous small-numbered people, taking into account their ethno-cultural characteristics. The purpose of this article is to identify the conditions enhancing productive cooperation between family and school in solving the problems of forming civic identity and patriotism in Kumandin adolescents. Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of this study includes scientific works by leading experts devoted to the formation of civic identity and patriotism. The empirical data were obtained in Altai Krai in 2023-2023. The study used ‘My Ethnicity’ sociological questionnaire, which enabled the authors to identify cognitive and affective aspects of adolescents’ ethnic identity. Using the scale of civic consciousness as patriotism and nationalism of the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) allowed to assess constructive and non-constructive manifestations of adolescents’ civic identity. Also, the authors used D. J. Finney’s Ethnic Identity Scale for assessing adolescents’ ethnic identity. In order to identify factors determining the formation of civic identity and patriotism in Kumandin adolescents, a survey of school teachers was conducted and moral education curricula were analyzed. The study involved 90 Kumandin adolescents. Results. The article presents a theoretical analysis of approaches to the formation of civic identity and patriotism. The results of the study showed that the majority of Kumandin adolescents demonstrated a high level of ethnic identification. Based on research data obtained by means of D. J. Finney’s inventory, the authors identified high internal consistency in the manifestations of cognitive and emotional components of adolescents’ ethnic identity. The authors revealed significant features in the intensity of various components of civic and ethnic identity among Kumandin adolescents compared to representatives of other nationalities. In particular, statistically significant strong (d from 0.65 to 0.92) differences were found for all indicators of ethnic identity according to D. J. Finney’s method, with average values higher among Kumandin adolescents. At the same time, it has been found that Kumandin adolescents have a poor understanding of the culture and traditions of their ethnic group, practically do not speak the Kumandin language, and do not strive to demonstrate their belonging to the indigenous people. The study showed the need for schools to organize conditions for productive cooperation between family and school aimed at the formation of civil identity and patriotism in Kumandin adolescents: targeted and systematic educational work on studying Kumandin culture and preserving the language in classes attended by Kumandin students, involving the family as part of civic and patriotic education by means of social projects, engaging Kumandin teenagers to participate in civic and patriotic events related to their ethnic characteristics, developing recommendations for teacher. Conclusions. Based on the data obtained, the authors identified the conditions for productive cooperation between family and school aimed at developing civic identity and patriotism in Kumandin adolescents.

Abstract:
In this article, we have made an attempt to consider the causes of family problems in modern society that affect the process of forming a sense of patriotism. Today, attacks in the media continue on traditional family values that play an important role in the life of Russian society, the ideologists of multiculturalism seek to exclude from the value field of our citizens the desire to fulfill moral duty to the Motherland and family, transform fundamental concepts such as personal dignity, justice, etc. Russian Orthodoxy is the spiritual foundation of Russian culture, the guarantor of ensuring the national and cultural identity of our civilization, determining the behavior and thinking of the Russian people. The subject of the study is the process of forming a sense of patriotism in the family. The object of the study is the peculiarities of the family and household sense of patriotism. Special attention is paid by the author to the attitude of young people to the birth of children and the subject of spiritual and moral values. The author describes the features of the formation of the family-household type of patriotism: the concept, types, research, specifics of education. To determine the factors that interfere with the formation of a family-household type of patriotism, a sociological survey of 120 police cadets was conducted, which allowed identifying the main groups of adherents of certain views on the problem of spiritual and moral values. The main conclusion is the proof of the thesis about the need to form large families as one of the foundations of the well-being of our state. The researcher's special contribution consists in highlighting the reasons why mothers and fathers do not want to have children, deaxologizing the goals of marriage among modern youth. The novelty of the study is the actualization of the question of the need to form a sense of patriotism in the family. The description of promising areas of further research on the subject of fostering a sense of patriotism is given.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the conditions of moral and patriotic education of students in the Yaroslavl region. The author conducted a sociological study among students of leading universities in the Yaroslavl region. The content and quality of 18 patriotic regional programs of the Central Federal District and the activities of federal and regional authorities for their implementation are analyzed. As part of the study, it was found that regardless of gender characteristics, the direction of education, the level of material well-being of the respondents, for most of them, patriotism is associated with pride in their country. Only a small part of students believe that in the context of globalization, patriotism is losing its relevance. It was revealed that more than half of the respondents consider themselves patriots. At the same time, the poorer the student’s family (his parents), the more such a student considers himself a patriot. In addition, young men, for the most part than girls, consider themselves patriots. It has been established that the higher the level of education of parents and the material well-being of the family, the higher the influence of parents on the formation of patriotic attitudes. The lower level of education of parents and the lower level of material well-being of the family, the higher the influence of the school on the formation of patriotic values and attitudes. Absolutely everyone who took part in the survey is proud of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The lower level of material well-being of the respondent’s family, the more he is proud of Russia’s position in the world community. Girls, to a greater extent than boys, believe that they, as citizens of the Russian Federation, can rightfully be proud of the country’s cultural heritage. The lower level of prosperity of the student’s family (his parents), that higher his desire to serve in the army. Students from less wealthy families perceive the army as one of the possible “elevators” of social mobility. Measures aimed at improving the efficiency of state policy in the field of patriotic education of youth are proposed.

Abstract:
According to comparative data, suicide rates in Bohemia remained at a statistically high level in comparison to global-figures from the nineteenth-century until late in the twentieth, a matter of grave concern for successive political regimes. In the interwar-republic of Czechoslovakia, patriots were troubled that the high rates of suicide in Bohemia had failed to decline following the transition from the Habsburg empire into the new Czechoslovak state. The article uses sociological works to show how the problem of suicide was negotiated and rationalized in the context of the patriotic culture of the state. This involved eschewing the most compelling explanations of the problem in favor of those better adjusted to the political mood of the times, passing over immediate and apparent problems in favor of explanations that related suicide to the war years or the previous imperial experience. These rationalizations ultimately achieved few concrete solutions, but rather provided an interpretation of the ongoing problem that was compatible with the state-forming patriotism of the day.

Abstract:
This article is a review of a collective monograph titled “Thank great grandfather for the victory... Material from stage 4 of a monitoring survey titled “Students of modern Russia on the Great Patriotic War” (2005-2010-2015-2020)/ Ed. by Y.R. Vishnevsky. Ministry of science and higher education of the Russian Federation. Ekaterinburg: Ural University publ. 2020., 325 p. It is dedicated to studying how students in modern day Russia perceive the events of the Great Patriotic War, which is very much relevant in a time when patriotism is becoming one of the conceptual dominants in the political agenda. There is really no need to prove the relevance of the work in question. Over time different generations lose touch with each other, the opportunity for young people to directly communicate with those who actually witnessed the events of the war slowly vanishes. Given these conditions, the scientific community needs to develop a research approach that would be sound from a methodological point of view in order to expand on the topic of preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. The reviewer insists that the monograph in question is a worthy contribution to the sociological study of the issue of preserving historical memory. The conclusions drawn by the authors of the monograph may be used in order to get a better grasp on methods of education.

Abstract:
Based on the studied material the authors have identified the principles representing approaches to civic education and characterizing conditions that ensure the process efficiency. The purpose of the article is to consider the contradictions, patterns and principles of civic education in the educational process, to determine the pedagogical conditions and current promising trends. Comparative analysis of historical, sociological, political, psychological and pedagogical literature on the studied issue, generalization and systematization of theory are the main research methods. They are both theoretical (analysis, systematization, generalization) and empirical questionnaires, testing). Based on the results of the questionnaire survey, demonstrating students' attitude to “blind” or “constructive” patriotism, the students developed and implemented projects aimed at development of “constructive” patriotism, community and civic involvement. The use of theoretical methods revealed the contradictions and issues of the youth civic consciousness development, being one of the socially important national goals. The use of empirical methods of research allowed the authors to reveal certain issues in this area in order to further correct the educational process at institutions of higher education.

The article presents the results of a sociological study that examined the issues of self-identification of rural residents of the Jewish Autonomous region. It was revealed that a significant part of the respondents (49%) do no. identify themselves with the residents of the region, but consider themselves primarily residents of Russia. On the one hand, this indicates a high level of patriotism for the Motherland, but it may indicate migration sentiments, since a Russian can live in any region of his country. For 30% of the surveyed population, the border situation does no. cause concern or a positive attitude.

Abstract:
Robert Michels (1876–1936) considered himself to be a disillusioned socialist, who, under the influence of elitism, rejected democracy and moved into the fascist camp. As a figure in sociology he is associated solely with the “iron law of oligarchy.” In Poland, it is a little-known fact that in Western social thought he is viewed as a socially engaged sociologist—a “genuine” researcher gifted with sociological imagination and a passion for scholarship. The aim of the author is to present Michels as a scholar in many areas: feminist issues, local patriotism in the context of national citizenship, phenomena of a general sociological nature, the history of Italy, and social movements. Furthermore, the author illustrates the German writer Timm Genett’s thesis that Michels should also be valued as a pioneer in the study of social movements, which he consistently examined in his analyses of organizations, systematically investigating the degeneration of social movements and the shifting of organizational aims.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of spiritual and moral education of personality in the conditions of modern Russia. Some aspects of the existing meaning of life attitudes, spiritual and moral characteristics of society are considered, ways of solving problems of a legal and moral nature in conditions of social changes are proposed. Particular attention is paid to examining the relationship between morality, law and patriotism in the system of personal perception. In modern conditions, great attention must be paid to monitoring the spiritual and moral characteristics of Russian society, its moral and ethical state. Specific data from such studies will make it possible to draw a conclusion taking into account specific territories, forming a visual “matrix” with territories where improvements are needed in relation to spiritual and moral values. The results of sociological research will help to see exactly where such work is needed. This is especially true of patriotic education, forms and methods, according to which it is recommended to carry out this kind of activity. In the process of creating methods, it is necessary to abandon the experience of building patriotism based on ineffective measures, without taking into account the historical specifics and specific statistics. It is important to take into account the situation on the ground, public opinion, the presence or absence of a systemic crisis, the situation in the field of human rights. In addition, it would be very useful to create patriotic applications on smartphones, where it would be possible, in a game or other form of active interaction, to gain knowledge about Russian history, heroic deeds of the past, and about the prospects for people with developed moral and ethical qualities. Outside of the separation from digital technologies, it is possible to give meaning to life not only to young people, but also to those who are already of age, by teaching them how to use the latest digital technologies and take advantage of high-speed Internet. It is necessary to create a complex toolkit, which would take into account all aspects of the conditions and circumstances under which effective and comprehensive patriotic and spiritual and moral education is possible.

Abstract:
The phenomenon of patriotism has accompanied humanity since ancient times. Its versatility strikes the imagination. Patriotism is defined intuitively and theoretically as «amor patria» (lat) – «love to the motherland». Even in its general form, this definition raises many questions, ranging from the gulf between direct and literary translations to the correctness of involving the concept of love to define it. This most general description characterizes the phenomenon in terms of attitude, but a closer examination requires a greater degree of details. Modern concepts of the study of the manifestations of patriotism in the Western scientific literature occupy a very important place in the fairway of the formation of political morality, which leads the civilized world to progress in the triumph of public moral values, recognizing the limitations of the real world, but not allowing these obstacles to impede such movement. It is believed that the phenomenon of patriotism in the modern world now plays an important role in reflecting on the rights and responsibilities of policymaking, but this may not always be the case, given the controversial view that further development of liberal democracy may weaken the manifestations of this phenomenon. Each of the concepts is implemented in one of the individual dimensions: vertical or horizontal. The vertical dimension is responsible for the relations between the subject and the object of patriotism, while the horizontal dimension is responsible for the relations between the subjects. They distinguish a «pre-political» vertical dimension, where the focus is on the culture, language, history and traditions of motherland or political community and «political», where the central principles and fundamental values of the state are central to loyalty. The horizontal dimension of patriotism has redistributive and substantive aspects. The essence of the redistributive aspect is the priority given to compatriots in comparison with other persons. The latter has two versions: absolute, which implies that compatriots always have priority over others; and a relative one, in which priority is given under certain conditions. Both dimensions have two degrees – extreme and moderate. Extreme concepts are characterized by unconditional loyalty to the object of patriotism, exceptional attachment to it, and unconditional priority given to compatriots in the distributive aspect. The discussion is free from pathos and propaganda and focuses more on the philosophical and sociological aspects of this issue. In the domestic scientific space, discourse is mainly focused on the educational aspects of pedagogy, the formation of appropriate personality traits, where the term «patriotism» mainly and primarily expresses sacrifice for something and a sense of duty; in contrast, in the Western scientific tradition the term tends to be more committed to some principles and ideals. According to the author, these differences are due to the Soviet heritage not yet overcome in the ideological use of the manifestations of this phenomenon.
