Abstract:
As complex phenomena of social and cultural experience, sociocultural stereotypes manifest in behavioural, material and verbal spheres. Notable advances in the study of various aspects of sociocultural stereotypes in humanities have not eliminated the necessity of their study in research paradigm of cognitive-linguistics that incorporates psycholinguistic methods within interpretative framework. An in-depth study of sociocultural stereotypes requires rigorous empirical investigation of language evidence received from competent speakers in experimental situations. The experimental work provides a high level of empirical accuracy to verify emotional evaluation and pragmatic presuppositions conveyed by sociocultural stereotypes. The aim of this study was to unveil the meaning of a sociocultural stereotype flapper in contemporary culture and to model its cognitive structure on results of associative experiment. This sociocultural stereotype was chosen for its importance in changing standards of women behaviour in modern American culture. Flappers were young and daring American women, whose look and behaviour were criticised rigorously by traditionalists. An associative experiment conducted in the Lock Heaven College of Pennsylvania University showed the stereotype of flappers, though emerged in 1920s, still exists in national consciousness as a stereotypical image and a symbol of the epoch. The work contributes to the methodology of systematising experimental data in cognitive-linguistic research.

Abstract:
The purpose of the article is further generalization of animation sociocultural activities management within the context of general theory and practice of culture management and characteristic features of realization of contemporary cultural practices, investigation of ASCA management within the context of general culture processes management system under conditions of destabilization of society. The methodology. Based on the systematic approach, contemporary culture management analysis method and sociocultural animation con-cepts generalization method were used. Connection between culture management and animation acti-vities was explicated. Synthesis of scientific stances enables proposing a new take on general and specific aspects of managing contemporary sociocultural animation. Comparison of scientific stances enables uncovering development prospects of culture practices in the post-crisis period and provides an opportunity to propose their transformation direction. The results. Investigation of animation sociocultural activities management within contemporary scientific and practical contexts is multi-leveled (broad and narrow context). Connection to applied cultural studies enables analyzing ASCA management as maintenance of quality of sociocultural interaction, creation of organizational conditions for invigorating society subjects and regulating culture-creating being in the post-crisis period. Connection of different culture management levels enables implementation of the animation effect of sociocultural activities in various constituents of a respective field (teaching, recreation, tourism etc.). Effectiveness of regulating sociocultural animation depends on systematic view on its performance under conditions of contemporary culture senses creation, coherence of management and integration levels of means of animation, coordination of performance of main management functions, taking into account its specificity within the culture space, and ensuring adherence to animation activities principles. The scientific topicality. Contemporary global challenges (pandemics, military conflicts, total informatization) upon encountering permanent issues of society (socioeconomic troubles, ideological rigidity and value instability) become not only causes for change of a culture model, but also cause a search for productive innovative answers, which will become the basis for further culture-creation in the post-crisis period. Effectiveness of the idea of animation in the sociocultural field was proven both in theoretical research and thanks to realization of cultural practices. It is known that animation is the synonym for invigoration, sometimes even identified as social creativity, and is a factor of overcoming social extinction and alienation. The practical significance. Culture management enables not only realization of management functions, but also accompanies motivation of subject stance, hastens interaction in the culture field, supports and leads to carrying out initiative in a sociocultural space. Innovative approaches to sociocultural animation are brought into being through topical practices, which require thorough planning, organization, coordination and effectiveness control. Thanks to culture management, not only technical and material resources for activation of animation idea through understanding, explaining, promoting and realizing it in specific actions are regulated, but also intellectual, creative and information ones as well, which modernizes contemporary sociocultural processes.

In this study, we investigated how Finnish children used photographs and drawings to discuss their preschool day experiences in focus groups. Building on sociocultural perspectives on mediated action, we specifically focused on how these visual tools were used as mediational means in sharing experiences. The results of our embodied interaction analysis highlight the relevance of visual tools for the participants and the task at hand in the moment-to-moment, micro-level flow of interaction and its material environment. More specifically, our analysis illuminates different ways in which the visual tools were relevant for participating children and adults when sharing and talking about their experiences. In all, our study advances present-day understanding regarding how sociocultural and embodied interaction frameworks can guide visual research with children.

Abstract:
Many Ethnic Community Languages (ECLs) in Tanzania are demographically and socioculturally pressured mainly by Kiswahili and English to a lesser extent. The ECLs which were previously used in elementary education, local administration and religious activities currently do not have any place in any official domain and thus are limited to home and other few immediate domains. Due to this unequal coexistence of the languages, many ECLs are considered endangered, calling for efforts from stakeholders to prevent the death of such a precious cultural heritage. By documenting the social aspects of Asu personal names, this paper is a contribution to such initiatives like The Languages of Tanzania Project aiming at documenting Tanzanian ECLs in every possible area and means. The paper used participant observation, in-depth interview and self-intuition to investigate personal names of a Bantu speaking people called Vaasu (Asu) of Northern Tanzania, considering naming as an important aspect of the society. The paper looked at Asu names within the purview of linguistic anthropology considering names as not being arbitrary labels but sociocultural tags that have sociocultural functions and meanings. By using thematic analysis technique, the paper analysed and discussed the typology of the names including family names, circumstantial names, theophorous names, flora and fauna names, to mention but a few. The paper further examined the changing nature of Asu naming system and practice as dictated by cultural contact mainly with Swahili and Christian/ western culture. The paper eventually recommends for further investigation on issues surrounding naming practices and strategic measures to prevent this important African cultural resource.

Abstract:
Narrative themes, such as search and discovery, are universal and transcend the modularity of language, culture, time, and physical setting. Narratives share a cohesive organizational structure. This study, by assessing children’s written versions, examines their understanding and integration of the story structure of a series of simple black and white line drawings. The study was conducted with students from the second, fourth, and sixth grades in low and high SES schools. Our results showed that the written narratives of the low SES groups, across the grade levels, had fewer narrative structure elements (overall, inter, and intra episode relationships) than those of their high SES counterparts. Although the results for the high SES groups show a relationship between the narrative structure elements and text length, this relationship is not evident in the low SES results. These results may have implications for future investigation and possible application in educational policy, especially for low SES populations.

Abstract:
The article undertakes an analysis of different foreign publications that were never previously adduced in domestic scientific thought, which reflect an integrative approach to the study of modern library phenomenon. The integrative paradigm is presented by theoretical investigations in the conditions of digitalization of modern sociocultural space. It suggests solving of problems during understanding of essential transformations of library. It is emphasized that the full manifestation of library phenomenon is possible only in conditions of balance between traditional mechanisms of interaction with the society. Therefore the idea of functional integration and migration into the digital area is considered as an exclusive basis for interpretation of the essence of modern library, as it doesn’t reflect the diversity of its practices, which correspond social demands. It is identified that unification of different approaches allows realisation of the multidisciplinary theoretical investigation of library phenomenon, the peculiarities of it’s simultaneous presence in real life and virtual environment, complete analysis of it’s special part in new sociocultural and informational space.

Abstract:
The current research is aimed to highlight the obstructing sociocultural factors that influence the undergraduate students’ English language communication skills in Pakistan. Undergraduates’ English language communication skills are strongly affected by various sociocultural factors such as the environment, cultural variation, societal rank, and self-identity. In particular, the current research emphasizes the interconnectedness of language and culture and their influence on the English language communication skills of the undergraduate students. The investigation was carried out in the public institutions of Bahawalpur, Pakistan. It was based on simple random and cluster random sampling. Forty highly proficient ESL / EFL instructors and 498 ESL students contributed to the current investigation. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were followed throughout the research. Data analysis revealed that among all the contributing factors, the environment was the most prominent factor, which affected the learner’s oral competency. The overall conclusion is that sociocultural issues affect the learners’ communication skills in Pakistan where English is most often the third language. The study also recommends that instructors should recognize the source(s) of language anxiety to facilitate the learners and to make the language acquisition process more successful.

Abstract:
The article discusses the challenges and opportunities posed by the visual turn and visual studies in the investigation of communication. The theoretical framework of the article was found in the modern concepts of multimodal communication. The article focuses on the role of a visual image in shaping our sociocultural experience and knowledge. The main research question is as follows: how communicative actors produce and interpret meanings through visual images. Visuality is considered as a semiotic resource of meaning making that is socially constructed and culturally given. The article looks at images as they are context sensitive and represent information from the sociocultural environment. The methodology of the present analysis is in line with social and cultural semiotics, and reflects the main principles of text and cultural linguistics. The findings and implications can be summarized as follows. First, the article sketches out a linguistic, or, to be more precise, text linguistic, view on multimodality and summarizes the main approaches to the visual medium of communication compared with language. The point of departure is a methodological shift within linguistics from logocentrism towards multimodality and visual resources of meaning making. In the research papers in the 2000s, linguists also legitimized the pictorial and multimodal turn. Visuality is now at the cross-point of research interests of many modern disciplines such as text linguistics, stylistics, cognitive linguistics. Multimodal texts are considered a crucial object to investigate the meaning making in its sociocultural embeddedness. Second, the suggested inquiry is in line with the issue of intericonicity and reveals the explanatory charge of visual intertextuality. I show that pictures, image-language links may emerge as rooted in certain sociocultural practices as a part of the cultural knowledge of communicators. That means they may be dependent upon the knowledge of previously encountered texts or meanings. Visual intertextuality is considered a form of intericonicity, which reflects the intersemiotic translation of verbal signs by means of signs of nonverbal sign systems. I show visual intertextuality in current Russian communicative practice as a means of meaning making through reference on images or image-language links. A conclusion looks at some requirements and directions for further research. Images may provide a new access point to investigation of the cognitive dimension of meaning making and its sociocultural dimension. They allow us to observe the forms in which socially shaped and shared experience is fixed. The visual resource provides an access to contextualization: images are context sensitive and context embedded. The use and interpretation of images gives a special angle for the active, social construction of reality through semiotic (visual) resources.

Abstract:
In the article, theoretically-empirically analyzes of the correlation of indecision regarding vaccination and social-cultural factors are conducted. The analyses of recent researches point out at spread of indecision regarding immunization against different infectious decisions, including Covid-19. This attitude is created by diverse causes/aspects such as own persuasions, mistrust of government, development of conspiracy theories. In the article, reasons for the emergence of indecisiveness are analyzed, the existing methodologies concerning the issue are considered, and the perspective of the investigation is proposed. The study showed the following results: 30% (n = 80) of the respondents were vaccinated, and 66.3% (n = 177) were not. At the same time, 55.2% (n = 142) consider the threat from Covid-19 as serious. Also, most of the respondents (n = 167) have a positive attitude towards vaccination and are mainly supporters of progressive values (equality of minorities, tolerance towards the LGBT community, etc.). In addition, respondents who see Covid-19 as a serious threat have a positive attitude towards vaccination (p = 0.370). Summing up, the main reason for the hesitation of vaccination is adherence to traditional values. This includes religiosity, family relationships, and parent-child relationships. The main category of these subjects are people aged 25+. Also, in general, the subjects do not trust the authorities and consider their steps regarding Covid-19 to be ineffective. Perhaps this is also one of the defining points in the formation of attitudes towards vaccination, because most of the sample has a positive attitude towards vaccination, but has not decided on this step yet.

Abstract:
Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) is defined as “the sudden death of an infant under 1 year of age which remains unexplained after thorough investigation including a complete autopsy, death scene investigation, and detailed clinical and pathological review”. A significant decrease of SIDS deaths occurred in the last decades in most countries after the beginning of national campaigns, mainly as a consequence of the implementation of risk reduction action mostly concentrating on the improvement of sleep conditions. Nevertheless, infant mortality from SIDS still remains unacceptably high. There is an urgent need to get insight into previously unexplored aspects of the brain system with a special focus on high-risk groups. SIDS pathogenesis is associated with a multifactorial condition that comprehends genetic, environmental and sociocultural factors. Effective prevention of SIDS requires multiple interventions from different fields. Developing brain susceptibility, intrinsic vulnerability and early identification of infants with high risk of SIDS represents a challenge. Progress in SIDS research appears to be fundamental to the ultimate aim of eradicating SIDS deaths. A complex model that combines different risk factor data from biomarkers and omic analysis may represent a tool to identify a SIDS risk profile in newborn settings. If high risk is detected, the infant may be referred for further investigations and follow ups. This review aims to illustrate the most recent discoveries from different fields, analyzing the neuroanatomical, genetic, metabolic, proteomic, environmental and sociocultural aspects related to SIDS.

Based on the knowledge of the participants and faculty members, this paper proposes a broad reflection on sociocultural community development as it is currently experienced and desired in various countries (Yemen, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine). This reflection, co-constructed from contexts experienced by the participants and selected contributions in reference to inspiring authors such as Gillet, seems necessary today for the potential development of intervention and investigation tools supporting social change in the English-speaking Arab countries.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the sociocultural underpinnings of wiki-based knowledge production in the videogame domain, and to elucidate how these underpinnings relate to the formation of wikis as resources of videogame documentation. Design/methodology/approach The paper is based on a three-month ethnographic investigation of knowledge practices on the Dark Souls Wiki (DSW). In focus of the analysis were the boundaries and knowledge aims of the DSW, together with how its contributors organized inquiries and used various sources, methods of investigation, and ways of warranting knowledge claims. Findings The principal result of the paper is an empirical account of how the DSW functions as a culture of knowledge production, and how the content and structure of the wiki connects to the knowledge practices of its contributors. Four major factors that influenced knowledge practices on the wiki were identified: the structures and practices established by the community’s earlier wiki efforts; principles and priorities that informed wiki knowledge practices; the characteristics of the videogame in focus of the site’s knowledge-building work; the extent and types of relevant documentation provided by videogame industry, the videogaming press included. Originality/value Previous research has shown interest in investigating the mechanisms by which community-created knowledge and online resources of documentation emerge, and how these are utilized in play. There is, however, little research seeking to elucidate the sociocultural structures and practices that determine and sustain collaborative online videogame knowledge production.

We conducted in-depth interviews with 40 Black young adult (ages 21–29) cigar smokers in the Washington, D.C. area and analyzed themes regarding physical and sociocultural community-level factors perceived to influence cigar use. Themes were further analyzed based on participants’ predominant cigar products (cigarillos, large cigars, blunts). Participants reported easy access to affordable cigarillos, widespread cigarillo sales and targeted marketing, norms of cigar and blunt smoking for stress relief, socialization, and cultural participation, and ubiquitous cigar and blunt smoking cues, all of which promoted cigar use in their communities. Future research should further explore how community-level influences contribute to disproportionate cigar use among Black young adults. Our findings suggest that programs and policies addressing physical and sociocultural community-level pro-smoking influences may help mitigate cigar smoking disparities.

Abstract:
Abstract Scholars and practitioners continually search for the optimal paths to effective learning. This paper presents the results of a case study that suggests that care supports learning in sociocultural settings and subsequently encourages aesthetic experiences of children in the art classroom. Care theory (Noddings, 1995) informs this investigation by suggesting that care is the bridge between learning independently and learning in a group and thus is essential for effective instruction and learning in the art classroom. when framed within a context of care, sociocultural learning theory (Lave, 1988; Vygotsky, 1934/1978; Wertsch, 1985) supports the notion that learning among different ages and ability groups creates a context for qualitatively different experiences than offered in single-ability and single-age groups. Aesthetic experience (Dewey, 1934; Eisner; 2002), as an outgrowth of social interaction supported with care, is a significant cognitive function that supports learning in the art classroom. The results of the case study reveal the social nature of the students’ world and emphasizes the role that art teachers can play in supporting student creativity and achievement within a social setting.

Abstract:
This study is a sociocultural investigation of the reasons why teachers use L1 in L2 classes through different classroom “modes” (Walsh, 2011). So far, a few studies regarding L1 have focused on L1 use in different classroom contexts, and none have used Walsh’s model of classroom modes. To this end, the present study used Walsh’s model which quarters the classroom context along with the Conversation Analysis techniques, to meticulously examine the classroom interactions. The classes were chosen from three different teachers in Mazandaran, Iran. A total of 6 sessions were recorded and transcribed. Results suggest that teachers use L1 mostly for managing purposes: drawing students’ attention, and making sure they have comprehended what they are supposed to do, and educational purposes: explaining difficult grammar and vocabulary, and eliciting desired structures or utterances. These findings might help teachers use L1 more efficiently and judiciously, instead of avoiding it when and where it might benefit the learners, as well as minimizing it in their classes as much as possible.

Abstract:
The theoretical foundations supporting adherence to naturalistic language learning approaches appear to have entirely collapsed, just as non-naturalistic approaches to language teaching such as translation and translanguaging have become increasingly respectable in English language teaching. In line with this, language and language learning are increasingly being understood as sociocultural phenomena, inevitably situated in local contexts, rather than in terms of manipulation of an abstract, universally-shared set of syntactic rules. This prompts a reevaluation of both traditional methods and innovation in specific sociocultural settings. We offer a review of some important developments in our understanding of language acquisition, with particular focus on evidence from the phylogenetic domain, often overlooked by language professionals, and suggest directions for fruitful investigation. In this regard, we recommend attention first to methods that have stood the test of time in the sociocultural milieu, that are acknowledged as having value by both local teachers and students. As a notable example of these, we focus on the pedagogical use of L2 vocabulary items embedded in L1 text. We find that the claim made by Japanese native local teachers, that such L1 use is helpful in vocabulary learning, receives significant support from our experimental results.

Abstract:
This article describes an investigation of the American Girl brand that provides a more complete and holistic understanding of sociocultural branding. Recent research on emotional branding, together with prior work on brands’ symbolic nature and their role as relationship partners, represents a significant shift in the way marketers think about brands and brand management. However, a full understanding of powerful and emotionally resonant brands has been elusive, in part because sociocultural branding knowledge has accumulated in a piecemeal way and lacks coherence and integrity. In addition, powerful brands are extraordinarily complex and multifaceted, but in general they have been studied from a single perspective in a single setting. On the basis of a qualitative exploration of the American Girl brand that is both deep and broad, the authors posit that an emotionally powerful brand is best understood as the product of a complex system, or gestalt, whose component parts are in continuous interplay and together constitute a whole greater than their sum. Studying American Girl from the perspectives of various stakeholder groups in many of the venues in which the brand is manifest, the authors attempt to close the sociocultural branding research loop and identify implications for brand management.

The present work deals with investigating theoretical nuances between the concepts of myth and its applications to the contemporary sociocultural apparatus. Through a bibliographic review, we propose a counterpoint of Freud's thought with the writings of Russell, Hegel, Cassirer, Plato and others, in order to bring clarity to the theme, while enriching the debate that is established here. Justifies our investigation, the need to give substance to the discourses that intertwine the mythical and psychic elements to the formators of society. As preliminary results of our readings, we saw that, in addition to being omnipresent in our social and Philosophy cultural history, the myth and its rites, because they are timeless, interpenetrate all consciences and contribute to the strengthening of the understanding of human facts on earth.

The article is dedicated to the trickster problematics. The methods of investigation: sociocultural analysis, comparative and biographical methods, interpretation. The subject of investigation: a trickster of modern Ukrainian sociocultural reality on the example of Verka Serdjuchka, the modern Ukrainian pop star (Andriy Danylko, the artist). The results of investigation: based on the works of famous foreign and Ukrainian scientists dedicated to mythologem problematics and trickster archetype and using generalizing characteristics of this cultural phenomenon identified by Mark Lipovetsky, Professor of Colorado University (the USA) (such as ambivalence, mediator function, liminality, transformation of transgression into artistic gesture, direct or indirect connection with sacral context) the character of Verka Serdjuchka as a trickster was analyzed. The work emphasizes such special characteristics of this cultural hero as aptitude to transformation (external and inner, social and cultural), status changes ( from a saleswoman and a train host to a glamorous show programme host and a first-rate pop star, the fact being confirmed by the second place won at the Eurovision song contest in 2007 ); changes in the appearance (from a frayed jacket, a checked skirt and a beret to a futuristic silver garment with a metal star on the head); changes in speech and lyrics of the songs, that is, substantial decrease in the use of surzhyk ( a mixture of Russian and Ukrainian words); manifestation of Ukrainian identity which wasn't expressed before.

Abstract:
As numerous qualified women exit the workforce because of the challenges of balancing work and family, investigations of the work–family interface have become increasingly important. Research has indicated how multilevel factors (i.e., individual, organizational, and sociocultural) play a role in work–family conflict. Little research has examined these factors in relation to each other, however. In sport management, Dixon and Bruening (2005) argued that higher level factors (sociocultural and organizational) shape and constrain lower level behaviors (organizational and individual), which ultimately influence the perception and consequences of work–family conflict. The primary purpose of this investigation is to test and further develop Dixon and Bruening’s multilevel framework. The current study used online focus groups for data collection from 41 National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I female head coaches with children to examine the factors that impacted work–family conflict from a top-down perspective. The results illuminated the experiences of the coaching mothers and the factors that affected their job and life satisfaction at each of the three levels. Particular attention was paid to how higher level factors such as work climate and culture shaped and constrained lower level attitudes and behaviors such as individual conflict and time management. These relationships highlighted how individual attitudes and behaviors reflect larger structural and social forces at work, and not simply individual choices.

BackgroundTraditional perinatal practices may protect against postnatal common mental disorders (CMD) in non-Western societies.AimsTo evaluate the association between perinatal practices and postnatal CMD in rural Ethiopia.MethodA population-based sample of 1065 women was followed up from pregnancy until 2 months postpartum. Qualitative investigation informed the development of scales measuring attitudes towards and adherence to perinatal practices. Postnatal CMD was measured using the Self-Reporting Questionnaire.ResultsEndorsement of sociocultural perinatal practices was associated with lower odds of antenatal CMD persisting into the postnatal period (adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 0.66, 95% CI 0.45–0.95). Women who endorsed protective and celebratory perinatal practices but were unable to complete them had increased odds of incident (adjusted OR = 7.26, 95% CI 1.38–38.04) and persistent postnatal CMD (adjusted OR = 2.16, 95% CI 1.11–4.23) respectively.ConclusionsThere is evidence for an independent role of sociocultural practices in maintaining perinatal mental health in this Ethiopian community.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT IMPACT: The broad goal of this investigation is to inform the development of culturally sensitive HIV prevention strategies to reduce specific challenges pertaining to PrEP uptake and utilization for Latino men. OBJECTIVES/GOALS: HIV is a significant public health concern affecting Latinos in the U.S. Daily use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) effectively prevents HIV infection and has the potential to curb HIV epidemics. The objective of this study is to examine how sociocultural variables impact PrEP-related services among HIV-negative Latinxs. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: The current study is a mixed-method investigation. Participants will include Latinx adult patients seeking services at an HIV community clinic. Approximately 150 participants will be recruited for the study. Participants who are eligible will complete sociocultural, mental health and PrEP-related measures. For the applied aim, community stakeholders will be recruited who serve the Latinx community. Upon completion of data collection, the data analytic plan is as follows: Aim 1, to establish the relationship between each sociocultural variable and PrEP uptake/utilization, preliminary analyses (i.e., correlations and regression analyses considering co-variates) will be conducted. Aim 2, grounded theory techniques will be conducted to establish community-informed practices to increase the use of PrEP. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: Relatively little is known about cultural factors that may impede PrEP uptake among Latinx MSM. Several researchers have identified specific factors such as language, acculturation, familismo, and similar cultural norms as significant barriers to care (Page et al., 2017). It is expected that each of these variables will contribute significant variance to willingness to use PrEP. Specifically, negative relationships are expected between fatalism and machismo and lower stages on the PrEP Contemplation Ladder. Comparably, a negative relationship is expected between the Hispanic acculturation subscale and lower stages on the PrEP Contemplation Ladder. It is however, hypothesized that there will be a positive relationship between familism and the non-Hispanic acculturation sub-scale. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE OF FINDINGS: Despite important advances in health to prevent HIV infection, HIV rates among Latinx MSM continue to rise. This investigation will have the potential to inform the development of culturally sensitive prevention strategies. By collecting qualitative data from key community stakeholders, this project will also directly inform a CBPR prevention.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Traditionally, anamnesis, or medical interviews, have been the main tools in diagnosing health issues and indicating therapeutic intervention. Medical interviews perform clinical methods and hence medical theory. OBJECTIVE: In this paper, we will present a learning experience process gained during an introductory course on research. METHODOLOGY: Based on a clinical report designed for the purposes of investigation, a group of students and an advisor analyzed the role of the chief complaint in providing healthcare. RESULTS: Students noticed the case did not express the chief complaint of the patient. In addition, there was difficulty in articulating social and biological data in the report. Such findings were discussed by the group considering the literature on medical interviews and the medical anthropology framework in order to broaden their understanding of subjective and sociocultural aspects of illness. CONCLUSION: Group discussions about the case and the literature made it possible to expand the students' understanding. We argue that taking into account the main complaints can reveal a complex range of sociocultural meanings and webs relevant to understanding the health concepts and practices of patients and their microsocial groups. In doing so, we hope to contribute to the debates around medical education and the appreciation of sociocultural aspects in health practices. And, thus, enrich the caregiver-patient relationship towards person-centered care.

Abstract:
For many decades, the women of Pakistan are suffering from the issue of gender disparity and despite certain legislations to strengthen the women, the issue could not be resolved. The Global Gender Gap Index Report 2020 ranked Pakistan 3rd worst,151 out of 153 developing countries following by Yemen and Iraq. This situation thus, leads that there are some major flaws in the existing cultural system and in the education of religion due to which the issue has become a dilemma for both, the state and the society. In this context, this study aims to analyze the issue in the light of the Qur’an, the Sunnah (pbuh) and the sociocultural context of Pakistan. After a thorough investigation, this study found cultural rigidity, illiteracy, and lack of scientific understanding of the relevant provisions of the Qur’an and Sunnah (pbuh), major contributors in the development of gender disparity. This research, thus, recommends an overhauling of the system of education, and study of the Qur’an and Sunnah (pbuh) in the light of the changed sociological context which would lead to the reformation of the rigid culture and would improve the issue of gender disparity.

Abstract:
Promoting contextualization in Mathematics teaching has been the advocacy of the Department of Education (DepEd) in the hope of enhancing students’ learning. Another important emphasis in the current setting is placed on the socio-cultural aspect of Mathematics education in the country. In this study, a socio-cultural Mathematics classroom adopted contextualization to enhance the higher order thinking skills of the students in a public Secondary High School in the province of Laguna. Moreover, it utilized a descriptive design but experimental in nature involving 112 Grade 8 students. Through data investigation and using Sample Paired T- Test and Pearson- Product Moment findings revealed that contextualization in a socio-cultural classroom has produced positive effects on the students’ higher order thinking skills since the performance of Grade 8 students as to their analyzing, evaluating, and creating skills significantly improved. Furthermore, contextualizing a sociocultural classroom by using everyday life scenario in connecting Mathematics to the real world and presenting the lesson with a contextual problem motivate students, challenge them to apply Mathematical reasoning to different circumstances, and deliberately involve them in higher order thinking

Abstract:
This investigation was concerned with how and when parents and other members of two rural communities (Awi and Ikot Edem Odo) in Cross River State, Nigeria, recognized malaria infection, what they do to prevent the disease, and what triggers their treatment seeking behaviour (cue to action). The psychological and sociocultural contexts of these complex factors were considered. Focus group discussion (FGD) techniques were employed. A total of eight groups selected using theoretical sampling matrix method were categorized. A thirty-three-item FGD battery of guide questions was used. Information and data on knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) and the perception of malaria infection were generated. Analysis showed that both communities recognized the symptoms, morbidity and mortality of malaria infection in both adults and children. The mosquito vector was identified among numerous other causes of malaria. The pervasive role of ethnomedical sociocultural, and belief systems on KAP and perception of malaria were revealed. Both communities will likely benefit from health education interventions which recognize the belief systems of the two communities.

Abstract:
This article discusses a direction of sociocultural studies – the cultural history of natural resources – and the possibilities of its application in examining the causes of inequality and social exclusion in post-Soviet Lithuania. This theoretical-methodological approach assumes a strong interdependence shared between the extraction of natural resources, a state’s political system and institutions as well as certain sociocultural provisions. In exploring the concept of “internal colonization,” developed by historian of culture Alexander Etkind and other authors, this article sets guidelines for a comparative analysis of the sociopolitical structure of post-Soviet countries (especially Russia and Lithuania). Some initial hypotheses regarding the trends, differences, and similarities of post-Soviet societies in the long historical perspective, from the 16th century up to our time, are presented for further analysis. This article concludes that this methodological approach could be sufficiently promising in explaining the specifics of the socioeconomic development of independent Lithuania, in particular by applying the hypothesis of a “secondary internal colonization,” which has been raised during the course of the investigation.

The present study investigates the sociocultural factors that affect second language learning. The investigation is built under five factors that are presumed to affect second language learning. The first factor is related to the effects of personality traits that are linked to second language learning, such as: self-efficiency, willingness, extraversion, and introversion, etc. The second factor pertains to motivation and second language learning. The third one is stereotyping and its effects on second language learning. The fourth is about social distance as a sociocultural factor of second language learning. And the fifth factor is about attitude. The study looks for how much effects do the factors mentioned so far have got in second language learning. A questionnaire is constructed to extract perceptions about the hypothesized factors from 62 participants. Responses are analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) to get statistical descriptions about the factors that mostly affect second language learning. The analytic statistics gives the following mean values for each factor: attitude = 20.58, stereotype = 20.00, motivation = 19.84, social distance = 19.74, and personality 18.85. The study concludes with the consensus belief that attitude is a crucial factor of second language learning.
