Full textThe thesis focuses on an original professional society of the French architectural scene of the interwar period, the Society of Modern Architects. Born in 1922 as the Group of Modern Architects (GAM), the SAM was founded by innovative architects of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Hector Guimard, Henri Sauvage, Frantz Jourdain. Throughout its existence, it brought together a wide variety of personnalities such as Auguste Bluysen, Adolphe Dervaux, Albert Laprade and Robert Mallet-Stevens. It will have more than 250 members throughout its existence. The thesis postulates the idea of both professional and intellectual coherence within this gathering of architects. The thesis studies the formation of the founding networks of the GAM at the end of the 19th century, the reasons for their convergence in the 1910s and the preparation of the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which served as the setting for the birth of the Group. It is interested in the positioning and professional recognition strategies of SAM architects by studying in particular its actions at the end of the International Exhibition as well as the type of reticular training and the effectiveness of the network set up by the Society. It is interested in the intellectual posture of the SAM by trying to identify a common thought among its members and confronts it with that of the rest of the architectural scene of the interwar period. It notably highlights the emergence of the figure of the modern architect and studies the way in which this figure is envisaged by the Society

Full textMy thesis is a attempt to sketch the relations between the value of music in yemeni culture, and the position of the musicians in society. In the first part, i state the contrast between prestige and suspicion which are both attached to music in yemen (chapter 1). This point leads me to examine the concept of the "functions" of the musical genres (chap 2). The second part is a case study, the "classical" singing of sanaa, historic capital of yemen. I describe the ceremonial context of the concert, which makes music the "medicine of the soul" (chap 3) : i then describe the poetic and musical repertory, as well as some of its symbolic aspects (chap 4). The third part examines more deeply this peculiar tension between musical practice and social values (chap 5). I then describe several aspects of the social status of the musicians in sanaa and its surroundings, and some of the musical and non-musical reasons of this hierarchy (chap 6). At last, i show a few strategies by which music lovers and musicians succeed in juxtaposing social values and the practice of their hobby (chap 7). The epilogue shows a few tendancies in the recent evolution of this dilemna. Appendexes provide : an attempt of undestanding the value of music in islamic culture (appendix 1), a full description of the yemeni magyal ceremonial (app 2), a few mythical tales about music (app 3)

Full textFieldwork was carried out from september 1985 to february 1987, in the eastern part of the island of madura (indonesia). Participant observation through residence in a village, interviews with specialists, amateurs and audiences, audio and video recordings and their transcriptions, musical notations, systematic surveys conducted near the end of the fieldwork on the artistic tastes and practices of 37 families, and direct observation of 160 performances were the methods enabling the constitution of the corpus of study, addressing the need for ethnographic and thematic study. Chapter i presents the inevitable musical support for these practices. In chapter ii, the author classifies the varied corpus of the region's living artistic genres, offering guidelines concerning performance structure and repertoire, identifies regional differentiation and provides a chronological frame. Chapter iv is devoted to spatial, temporal, economic and human conditions necessary for learning, practice and for reception by an audience, and to the most recent developments. Grounded in daily life, these artistic practices constitute attempted solutions and responses to problemes and aspirations that are both individual and collective, and may be seen as strategies for survival, prestige, or for economic or political power

Full textIn France, the humanistic values crisis culminated during the German occupation and the Vichy regime. During this period , art inherited much of the pre-war situation. But disruptions, both in intensity and nature modified the artistical scene. Art, as an expression of patriotic pride was is considered as a reflection of modern decadence : the lack of ideal, individualism, and democracy. Under the "national revolution" art became an instrument of development and revival after a return to order and tradition. In many respects, the "Secretariat general des beaux-arts" thought of a widely approved art policy magnifying the tradition, the fine craft, the monumentalism and the edifying subjects. The artistic world, by nature reluctant to state dirigism, resisted against the governmental positions concerning corporatism and exclusion policy. Besides, few artists accepted to serve the "service artistique du Marechal" which was attached to his person. If some artists entered the French resistance movement, some created subversive works while the majority of them staid aside and bred on its production the fancy of the many people visiting various art places. The German regime, on its side, proceeded with its own exhibitions, being encouraged by French ultras as Rebatet, and being comforted by the German journey of some famous artists : Vlaminck, Derain, Despiau, etc. Meanwhile the nazi authorities spent most of their time on their exclusion policy towards jewish and mason artists. Censorship was discontinued against the exhibition of works considered as "degenerated". Art was a stake for an authoritarian power aiming at controlling society, and an outlet for a population looking forward to returning back to normality

Full textThe control of the companies directors of the corporation in positive law has revealed its limit in the recent business context. One can justify its inefficiency two manners : on the one hand, it does not take sufficiently in consideration the real functioning of the corporation; on the other hand, it proves in some of its increasingly formalistic aspects, maladjusted, suspicious, perhaps exceeded. Indeed, this control aimed the thirds and shareholder protection against the all power of company director. Nevertheless, these interest are if general that this legal control obeys more a public order of direction. The pursuit of the citizen mission it has been the opposition of shareholders interest. The corporate governance fact recover rights of shareholders to the detriment of these of company director. The corporation has to be managed in the exclusive interest of these last. Recommendations of this movement are transported by funds of pension, recent actors of the stock market and speakers of companies directors. Their strong presence in the French capitalism obliges companies directors to manage in the interest of shareholders. The recession of the institutionnalisme to the profit of the contractualisme in shareholder reports-leaders makes the unanimity. Taking shareholder interest proprietors into consideration of the corporation by the company director has to be a constant. It can translate into a regular collaboration between the company director, shareholders and the commissioner to accounts, by the development of the technical debate within the council. Furthermore, one has to facilitate the profitability of the investment of the individual shareholder that is concerned only by the return on its investment. Because the finality is no longer left the alone company director master on board of the ship, but to assist it so as to get a good management of the corporation that translated into the creation of the shareholder's value

Full textDijon in the late eighteenth century was hoisted to the rank of real artistic provincial capital through an embellishment of its space, accompanied by new connoisseurs. This world revolves around two main figures: the customer and the artists and craftsmen gathered in corporations. This study examines the functioning of corporation’s arts and crafts reserving a large spot in the trail of individuals within the traditional framework. This world is evoked in turn by its regulatory, educational, economic, commercial and social aspects, evoking a provincial city that shines in the heart of the "Age of Enlightenment. "
