SamenvattingHet is de ambitie van het Rijk om dakloosheid in Nederland in de periode 2023–2030 structureel terug te dringen en in 2030 zelfs te beëindigen. Dat vraagt om een beweging van het zoeken naar oplossingen achteraf, als mensen dakloos zijn, naar het voorkómen dat mensen verder uitgesloten en dakloos raken. Daarmee verschuift de focus naar mensen die instabiel of ontoereikend zijn gehuisvest en mensen die een verblijfsinstelling verlaten. Vroegtijdige, passende ondersteuning van individuen en gezinnen is noodzakelijk, maar niet voldoende. Preventie van dakloosheid is alleen te realiseren als de structurele problemen worden aangepakt die samenhangen met de maatschappelijke ongelijkheid in Nederland. Dit vraagt van alle overheden om zich samen met partners (zoals opvanginstellingen en woningcorporaties) in te zetten voor bestaanszekerheid en ontplooiingskansen voor iedereen. En door een fundamentele verschuiving in te zetten van opvang naar preventie en wonen, dus naar wonen en ondersteuning van mensen in hun leefwereld, in het sociaal domein. Dat betekent werken aan sociale inclusie, ofwel concrete acties ondernemen voor meer bestaanszekerheid, een sterke voorzorg als mensen de greep op hun bestaan dreigen te verliezen, flexibele herstelzorg voor mensen die langdurig op zorg zijn aangewezen en een breed arsenaal van woonvarianten voor uiteenlopende groepen mensen, ingebed in een sterke sociale basis.

Studentsucces hangt samen met studiesucces en participatie. Studentsucces behelst zowel het succesvol studeren (hoe goed doet de student het op school qua doorlopen van de studie?) als participeren (hoe goed ontwikkelt de student in maatschappelijk opzicht zich persoonlijk en professioneel?). In het hoger onderwijs ligt dit studentsucces onder studenten met een niet-westerse migratieachtergrond lager dan onder studenten zonder migratieachtergrond. Welke factoren bepalend zijn, en hoe studentsucces bevorderd kan worden, waren de twee onderzoeksvragen in dit kwalitatieve, exploratieve actieonderzoek. Op basis van de percepties van 248 respondenten tussen 17 en 29 jaar, twee interviews met professionals, en feedback en check op de uitkomsten door 15 leden van de klankbordgroep, die de betrokkenen vertegenwoordigen, blijken drie factoren doorslaggevend te zijn voor de student met een niet-westerse migratieachtergrond: familie, persoonlijke alliantie en sociale veiligheid op school. In dit artikel worden de factoren beschreven waar de respondenten, die bestaan uit studenten op het mbo-4 en hbo met of zonder migratieachtergrond, tijdens hun studie blij van worden of waar ze van ‘balen’. Ook worden de resultaten van deze groepen met elkaar vergeleken. Tot slot volgen de acties op het gebied van ‘delen, ontmoeten en verbinden’ als antwoord op hoe hun studentsucces gestimuleerd kan worden.

Samenvatting De coronacrisis confronteert ons op een extreme manier met een aantal vormen van ongelijkheid die onze arbeidsmarkt kenmerken. In het eerste deel van dit essay identificeren we ongelijkheden die zeer zichtbaar geworden zijn door de coronacrisis, met name de ongelijke waardering van beroepen, ongelijke onzekerheid, de ongelijke fysieke en mentale risico’s verbonden aan werk, en de ongelijke verdeling van zorgtaken. Hierbij wijzen we op manieren waarop deze ongelijkheden verbonden zijn aan sociale identiteiten, zoals gender, etniciteit en handicap. In het tweede deel bespreken we lessen die we uit de crisis kunnen trekken. Als we gewoon trachten terug te keren naar het ‘oude normaal’, zal de arbeidsmarkt gekenmerkt blijven door dezelfde ongelijkheden en zullen de groepen in de meest achtergestelde posities de voornaamste slachtoffers van de crisis worden. We doen daarom een oproep om via organisatie- en overheidsbeleid in te zetten op meer gelijkheid en zo te evolueren naar een ‘nieuw normaal’ dat gekenmerkt wordt door eerlijker gewaardeerd en zekerder werk, en door meer aandacht voor welzijn en zorg.

Introductie
De Nederlandse Kennis- en Onderzoeksagenda Sociaal Werk (Hooghiemstra & Van Pelt, 2020) is tot stand gekomen op basis van een brede verkenning van praktijkvragen onder sociaal werkers. Deze praktijkvragen zijn door een Raad van kennis en onderzoek geclusterd en voorgelegd aan diverse groepen stakeholders. Het resultaat is een breed gedragen kennis- en onderzoeksagenda geordend langs vier pijlers:
Bevorderen van sociale samenhang
Bevorderen van inclusie
Versterken van het gewone leven
Door laten klinken van de stem van de burger/inwoner.
Voor elk van deze vier pijlers werkt het Nederlandse kennisinstituut Movisie aan kennissynthese. Hiervoor zijn eind 2022 verschillende expertsessies georganiseerd en wordt in de eerste helft van 2023 deskresearch gedaan. De resultaten hiervan worden in april/mei 2023 voorgelegd in een tweede ronde expertsessies aan professionals en ervaringsdeskundigen die betrokken zijn bij sociaal werk. Ook Journal of Social Intervention draagt bij aan de uitvoering van de kennis- en onderzoeksagenda, middels een nieuwe rubriek voor State-of-the-art artikelen, gelieerd aan de vier bovenstaande pijlers. Commensality – the act of eating together – and its social effects of creating or reinforcing social groups has been studied extensively. In life aboard ships, in particular, eating together is attributed a key role in reflecting and thereby enforcing the professional hierarchies deemed fundamental to the functioning of the ship. However, transgressions of these commensal rules and customs have often been overlooked. Taking the eighteenth-century Ostend Company based in the Southern Low Countries as a case, this article argues that commensal deviations were possible for a variety of reasons, ranging from a means of disciplining crew members to signalling discontent and waging power struggles. Nevertheless, transgressions were temporary: regardless of the success in attaining the envisaged goals, the commensal structure was quickly restored. Thus, rather than threatening the social hierarchy vital to the ship’s functioning, this article argues that these deviations helped sustain it by providing outlets for tensions before more serious challenges to on-board hierarchy could arise. Commensaliteit – het gebruik om samen te eten – en de sociale gevolgen hiervan, zoals het creëren of versterken van sociale groepen, zijn uitvoerig bestudeerd. Vooral in het leven aan boord van schepen wordt aan gezamenlijke maaltijden een sleutelrol toegekend: ze weerspiegelen en bevestigen de professionele hiërarchieën die cruciaal zijn voor het functioneren van het schip. Overtredingen van deze commensale regels en gewoonten zijn tot heden echter weinig bestudeerd. Dit artikel neemt de achttiende eeuwse Oostendse Compagnie, gevestigd in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden, hiervoor als casus en betoogt dat afwijkingen van de regels om gezamenlijk te eten verschillende doelen hadden zoals het disciplineren van bemanningsleden, het signaleren van ontevredenheid of het voeren van machtsconflicten. Deze overschrijdingen waren tijdelijk van aard en de commensale structuur werd steeds snel hersteld. Dit artikel betoogt dat deze afwijkingen geen bedreiging voor de sociale hiërarchie aan boord vormden, maar juist bijdroegen tot het in stand houden hiervan en als uitlaatklep voor spanningen fungeerden zodat ernstigere uitdagingen voor de machtsverhoudingen aan boord konden worden voorkomen.

Het artikel toetst de invloedrijke theorie van Miroslav Hroch over de ontwikkeling van ‘kleine’ naties in het territorium van een dominante natie toe aan de hand van de casus Vlaanderen. Er wordt met name aandacht besteed aan de sociale achtergrond van de Vlaamse patriotten en aan het sociaal programma dat ze ontwikkelen in relatie tot de Vlaamse natie. Het essayistische betoog verdedigt de hypothese dat de Vlaamse beweging er lange tijd niet in slaagde de arbei-dersbeweging en de werkgevers te integreren in de Vlaamse natie, waardoor die in de opvattingen van Hroch ‘gedesintegreerd’ bleef en dus ‘klein’. De sociale achtergrond van de Vlaamse patriotten bleef beperkt tot de middengroepen; hun programma was niet of slechts in beperkte mate gericht op de integratie van andere sociale groepen. Dit veranderde pas vanaf de jaren 1960, toen enerzijds als gevolg van sociaaleconomische veranderingen de middengroepen expandeerden en anderzijds door sociaal-culturele veranderingen het Vlaams natieproject een ruimere sociale basis kreeg. De Vlaamse patriotten slaagden er in een proces van staatshervormingen op gang te brengen waardoor de Vlaamse natie zich reproduceerde in de dagelijkse realiteit. In die omstandigheden voltrok zich dan toch de massificatie van de Vlaamse natie waardoor die ophield ‘klein’ te zijn ten opzichte van de Belgische.________Flemish Patriots and Nation-Forming. How the Flemish Nation Ceased to Be “Small”This article tests the influential theory of Miroslav Hroch concerning the development of ‘small’ nations within the territory of a dominant nation on the basis of the case of Flanders. Namely, attention is paid to the social background of the Flemish patriots and the social program that they developed in relation to the Flemish nation. The argument of this essay defends the hypothesis that, for a long time, the Flemish Movement did not succeed in integrating the workers’ movement and employers into the Flemish nation, and thus in Hroch’s conception it remained ‘disintegrated’ and thus ‘small’. The social background of the Flemish patriots remained restricted to the middle classes; their program was barely, if at all, geared toward the integration of other social groups. This did not change until the 1960s, when, on the one hand, the middle classes expanded as a result of socioeconomic changes and, on the other hand, the Flemish national project obtained a larger social basis through sociocultural changes. Flemish patriots succeeded in getting a process of devolution underway, by which the Flemish nation reproduced itself in day-to-day life. In these circumstances, the massification of the Flemish nation happened, whereby it ceased to be ‘small’ with regard to the Belgian.

Thesis (MPhil)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of the study is to investigate the. lifestyles and and romantic relationships of adolescent girls in the Bishop Lavis community. The study also explores the 'taxi-queen' phenomenon as a particular form of relationship. The study employed a qualitative methodology. Data were collected by means of a combination of two methods: firstly, two focus groups each consisting of seven high school learners between the ages of 16 and 18 years and secondly, in-depth interviews conducted with three adolescent girls between the ages of 16 and 20 years who were identified as'taxi-queens'. Regarding lifestyles of the young girls special attention was afforded to leisure activities, the role of the consumer market, domestic circumstances and future expectations. In the case of romantic relationships the study focused on the type of relationship the girls are involved in, reasons for their involvement, the nature and functions of romantic emotions, adolescent dating patterns, sexual behaviour and sexual violence. Regarding lifestyles findings indicate that leisure activities as well as the consumer market playa central role in the lives of these young girls. Leisure activities not only provide pleasure but also function as an escape mechanism from parental supervision, rules and interference. Young girls tend to experience romantic relationships as particularly positive and within these relationships sexuality represents a central component. Sexual activities appear to cornmense during earlier stages of the dating process. Furthermore, such activities are kept secret from parents due to fear of negative reactions and sex-related topics are seldom discussed with parents. Sexual violence often forms a component of romantic relationships between adolescent girls and boys. In conclusion the 'taxi-queen' relationship as a relatively unique form of romantic relationship is demonstrated with reference to the experiences of three young girls involved in such relationships. Recommendations for future research are made on the basis of the findings of this study.
AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die doel van hierdie studie is om ondersoek in te stel na die lewenstyle en romantiese verhoudings van 'n groep adolessente meisies in die Bishop Lavis gemeenskap. Die studie skenk ook aandag aan die 'taxi-queen' verskynsel as 'n besonderse vorm van romantiese verhouding. 'n Kwalitatiewe metodologiese benadering is gevolg. Data insameling het 'n kombinasie van twee metodes behels: eerstens, twee fokusgroepe bestaande uit sewe hoerskoolmeisies elk tussen die ouderdomme van 16 en 18 jaar en tweedens, in-diepte onderhoude met drie adolessente meisies tussen die ouderdom van 16 en 20 jaar wat as 'taxi queens' geidentifiseer is. Wat lewenstyle vanjong meisies betrefis daar veral gefokus op vryetydsbesteding, die rol van die verbruikersmark, huishoudelike omstandighede en toekomsverwagtinge van die groep meisies. Met betrekking tot romantiese verhoudings is daar hoofsaaklik op die volgende aspekte gefokus: die tipe verboudings waarin die meisies betrokke is, die redes vir hul betrokkenheid, die aard en funksies van romantiese emosies; adolessente hofmakery, die voorkoms van seksuele gedrag, seksuele geweld en dwang. Die studie bevind dat vryetydbesteding en die verbruikermark 'n sentrale rol in die lewe van hierdie meisies speeL Benewens die plesier wat daaruit geput word, funksioneer vryetydbesteding as 'n ontsnappingsmeganisme van ouerlike toesig, reels en inmenging van die kant van ouers. Die studie bevind verder dat jong meisies romantiese verhoudings as besonder positief beleef. Binne sodanige verhoudings verteenwoordig seksualiteit 'n sentrale komponent en seksuele aktiwiteite neem in aanvang tydens 'n vroee stadium in die proses van hofinakery. Betrokkenheid by seksuele aktiwiteite word vir ouers geheim gehou uit vrees vir negatiewe evaluering en jong meisies kommunikeer selde met hul ouers oor sekverwante onderwerpe. Verder is bevind dat seksuele geweld dikwels 'n komponent vorm van romantiese verhoudings tussen adolessente meisies en seuns. Ten slotte word die besonderse aard van die sogenaamde 'taxi-queen' verhouding beklemtoon aan die hand van die ervaringe van drie jong meisies betrokke by sodanige verhoudings. Op grond van die studie word daar aanbevelings vir verdere navorsing gemaak.

Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2004.ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In light of recent South African literature that shows that most adolescents from previously disadvantaged communities have until recently not had access to career guidance interventions, it was decided to do an investigation into the career interests of a group of learners from such a community. It was decided to specifically focus on sex role stereotyping and parental role models, with the purpose of gaining relevant information that can be used in the planning of career guidance curricula. Socio-economic and cultural variables were also considered. The investigation was done with the coloured communities of the Cape West Coast area. Learners from grade nine of 11 senior secondary schools were visited and requested to rank the ten interest fields of the MB 10 interest questionnaire from 1 to lOon grounds of preference. Statistical calculations were used to compare the boys' and girls' fields of interest. The learners were also requested to make a provisional career choice. This information was then compared to their parents' careers in order to ascertain what role parental role models have in their conditional career choices. M.Ed. (Educational Psychology)Human rights are currently the focal point of discussion. It is an actuality which' gains prominence as the complexity of society increases. This study will focus on the rights of the individual in relation to the other members of the group and the family. The family is seen as a bond of community in which the individual is anchored. The problems which are therefore addressed in this dissertation, are: Are children sufficiently informed about the rights of the individual in his group and his family? Are there any aspects with regard to the rights of the individual in his group or family about which children have almost no knowledge? The aim of this study was to ascertain to what extent the rights of the individual in the group are communicated to the child by the school, and to determine which educational gaps exists in this respect. The nature of this study is exploratory and descriptive. Exploratory studies have as their aim the exploration of a relatively unknown area. In this project the rights of the individual in his group and family are examined; also whether, and to what extent, these rights are communicated to the child - it is a relatively unknown area in educational studies which is explored. The ways in which the research in this study was by undertaken and carried out, includes amongst others a study of the literature which contains the relevant and, where possible the youngest views of experts on the appropriate area of research. It will form the frame of reference for the empirical study which will follow. The empirical component of the investigation was based on the implementation of a questionnaire. The variables were subjected to an item analysis. The independent variables, ie., sex; character; age; language; language of instruction; religion; news value; experience in teaching; qualification; professional skill and guardianship, were used to investigate the importance of the rights of the individual in relation to the other members of the group and the family.

VAN LETTERE AAN DIE UNlVERSITEIT VAN DIE WlTWATERSRANDThe aim of this study is to investigate marked linguistic phenomena in the spoken language of a group of (elderly) white Afrikaans-speaking men and women who were economically active in Johannesburg and surrounding areas between 1920 and 1940. For this purpose, tape recordings of twelve male railway workers and twelve female factory workers who fall into a lower socio-economic group were transcribed and analysed as faithfully as possible. Tape recordings of five white male and five white female Afrikaans-speaking teachers of more or less the same age as the first group, but belonging to a higher socio-economic category, were also analysed and transcribed as a basis for comparison. Distinct phonological, syntactical and lexical phenomena indicating signs of language contact were observed in the language of the speakers in the various groups under investigation. Significant differences may also be observed in the language of the men and women in the different socio-economic groups, with the language of the men and women in the lower socio-economic group and that of those in the higher socio-economic group clearly exhibiting gradual differences. Contrary to what was initially expected, men do not necessarily adhere more strictly to standardised language in speech than do women, and few significant characteristics typify the language of men and women in this period. The original expectation of finding relics of spoken Afrikaans from the pre-standardisation phase amongst the speakers selected was not fulfilled since the linguistic phenomena recorded are generally still heard in colloquial Afrikaans today. Furthermore, no traces of Dutchification were to be found in the case of the speakers selected. Dutchification apparently did not take place at lower socio-economic levels. From this study it is clear that the interaction between social stratification and language variation plays an important role, as do the problems surrounding language norms and social norms. In this study of variation, attention is also paid to language normalisation and standardisation, and to language variation and social stratification prior to a discussion of the language of men and women.

The increase in social challenges especially with regards to safety and security experienced in rural communities, as well as the lack of efficient lively places and public green spaces, is predominantly increasing in importance for government and planning policies.
This problem is substantiated by the large number of deaths (especially the deaths of children) drowning in rivers flowing through or nearby rural communities because of the lack of any other safe, public facilities and well-managed and maintained green spaces. The research question therefore focuses on whether the planning of lively places and green spaces in rural communities can address some of these social issues, and contribute to the strengthening of communities and creation of lively public places.
Government is struggling to deal with social issues (especially that of safety and security) within rural communities and a number of strategies were discussed and drawn up. (For example, the Rural Safety Summit which took place on 10 October 1998 aimed at achieving consensus regarding issues of rural insecurity; as well as crime prevention strategies as defined by the SAPS White Paper on Safety and Security (1998).) However, very little (if any) in-depth research on the possibility of upgrading public spaces into lively green places as a solution, has been done. This study can serve as a link between literature and practical rural issues, as well as contribute to green space and lively place development, incorporating international approaches and pilot studies, and illustrating best practices in terms of lively place and green space development, linking it to the local rural reality.
In creating public and lively green places for rural communities, issues of safety, inequality, sociability and community coherence are addressed. Through the correct corresponding planning initiatives consequently drawn up, overall quality of life of those living in rural communities can be improved, decreasing the social challenges experienced.MArt et Scien (Urban and Regional Planning), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

South Africa has gone through immense changes in the past two decades. The period around 1994 has been characterised by a comprehensive set of political, social and economic changes, which greatly influenced not only the lives of individuals in this county but also many businesses, organisations and companies. Further to this, South Africa has become increasingly intercultural in orientation as companies persevered in establishing intricate networks with partners in a diverse set of cultures. This has put enormous strain on organisations to remain competitive in the market. It is critical that organisations develop a more resilient workforce with greater psychological capacities to succeed in the on-going war for talent. Attracting and retaining talented employees can give organisations a sustained competitive advantage. In view of the growing intricacies in the business world, ambiguity in markets, and employees’ attitudes, it is crucial that organisations invest in psychological assessments. However, investing in valid and reliable psychological assessments has become more difficult due to vast cultural diversity South Africa comprises off.
The general objective of this study was to explore social desirability in the white Afrikaans group. A qualitative design was used and a quota non-probability sampling method was implemented among white Afrikaans-speaking people of South Africa (N=60), who differed from one another with regard to age, gender and socio-economic status. The measuring instrument was a semi-structured interview, which was based on the phenomenological approach. The results of the interviews were transcribed and captured in Excel. Content analysis was used to interpret the responses in socially desirable themes. Independent psychologists and language and cultural experts were employed in order to validate the initial interpretations. The descriptive terms were reduced through the use of cluster analysis. The analysis included the grouping of synonyms and antonyms, together with the use of dictionaries, literature and knowledge about content. In the representation of social desirability and impression management strategies within the white Afrikaner group, six main themes with sixty sub-themes in total were identified. The six themes are facilitating, gender-based, intellect-openness, interpersonal relatedness, intrapersonal relatedness and value-based. Firstly, to facilitate others by giving advice and guidance will be seen as desirable and make a favourable impression. Secondly, to display characteristics that are typically associated with males and females, such as masculinity and femininity, will be seen as desirable and can make a positive impression. Thirdly, having a unique natural ability or skill and being receptive to new and different ideas will be seen as desirable and make a good impression on others. Fourthly, remaining constructive in one’s relationships, and fifthly, remaining constructive in one’s inner thoughts and possessing inner confidence and having respect will make a favourable impression and can be seen as socially desirable. Lastly, exhibiting moral consciousness and being trustworthy, loyal and reliable will make a positive impression and will be perceived as desirable by the white Afrikaner group.

Optimistiese self-evaluasies oor die vermoë om take uit te voer is belangrik vir sukses in verskeie aspekte van menswees. Wanneer mense sulke self-evaluasies doen en selfdoeltreffendheids-persepsies vorm maak hulle van inligting uit verskeie bronne gebruik. Volgens teorieë wat spesifiek verband hou met self-evaluasie is mense tydens die vorming van sulke persepsies omtrent die self veral afhanklik van inligting bekom deur sosiale vergelyking. Hierteenoor beklemtoon teorieë wat meer met selfdoeltreffendheid verband hou, die belangrikheid van self-verwysende inligting soos gevorm tydens prestasie-ervarings. Die doel met hierdie navorsing is om die ordening van die bronne van inligting, wat tydens die vorming van selfdoeltreffendheids-persepsies gebruik word, te ondersoek. Die resultate sal bydra om belangrike vrae te beantwoord oor die voorbereiding van mense vir die uitvoering van uitdagende take.
In 'n eksperiment (N=1 723) wat op 'n Solomon-vier-groep-ontwerp geskoei is, is drie vorme van inligting wat persepsies kan beïnvloed aan drie eksperimentele groepe verskaf terwyl daar vyf kontrolegroepe was. Die effek van die ingrepe is met 'n vraelys gemeet. Die resultate toon dat selfdoeltreffendheidspersepsies meer deur selfverwysende inligting as deur sosiale vergelykings-inligting beïnvloed word. Dit is ook bevind dat die verskaffing van addisionele inligting nie 'n kumulatiewe effek tydens die vorming van selfdoeltreffendheidspersepsies het nie. Die implikasies van die resultate ten opsigte van die praktyk en teoretiese beskouinge is in die laaste instansie bespreek.Optimistic self-evaluation regarding the ability to cany out tasks is important for success in various fields ofhuman endeavour. When people do such self-evaluations and fmm self-efficacy perceptions, they make use of information from various sources. According to theories related to self-evaluation, people engaged in forming such perceptions about themselves largely depend on information gained through social comparison. However, theories of self-efficacy emphasize the importance of self-referenced information, such as those formed through enactive attainments. The purpose of this research is to examine the collation of sources of information used in forming self-efficacy perceptions. The results will help to answer important questions about preparing people to perform challenging tasks. In an experiment (N=l 723) modelled on the Solomon Four Group Design, three types of information likely to influence perceptions were supplied to three experimental groups, while there were five control groups. The effects of the interventions were measured by means of a questionnaire. Results confirmed that perceptions of self-efficacy are more profoundly influenced by self-referenced information than by social comparisons. It was also found that additional information did not have a cumulative effect dming the forming of self -efficacy perceptions. The implications of the results with respect to practical and theoretical viewpoints are discussed in the final instance.

De pragmatische RCT is een uitwerking van de Randomized Controlled Trial. De pragmatische RCT levert ‘hard’ wetenschappelijke bewijs over de effectiviteit van een interventie en sluit tegelijkertijd goed aan bij de complexe werkelijkheid van alledag. Deze vorm van effectonderzoek is daarmee bij uitstek geschikt voor de sociale sector. De pragmatische Randomized Controlled Trial, of pragmatische trial 1 (Schwartz & Lellouch, 2009/1967), is erop gericht een zo sterk mogelijke uitspraak te kunnen doen over het effect van een interventie in de praktijk van alledag. In de regel worden daartoe twee interventies of manieren van begeleiding met elkaar vergeleken, waarbij de centrale vraag is, of de ene begeleidingswijze betere of gunstigere uitkomsten heeft dan de andere. Mensen die aan de studie deelnemen, worden in twee groepen ingedeeld, waarbij de ene groep begeleid wordt met de interventie waarvan vermoed wordt dat deze effectiever is, en de andere groep begeleid wordt met de benadering die vermoedelijk minder effectief is. Kenmerkend is ook dat de onderzoeksdeelnemers op willekeurige wijze (at random) toegewezen worden aan een van beide groepen. De omstandigheden worden voor beide groepen zo veel mogelijk vergelijkbaar gehouden. De beide groepen worden vaak experimentele en controle- of vergelijkingsgroep genoemd.

In 2008 schreef Tine Van Regenmortel ter gelegenheid van haar aanstelling als lector ‘Empowerment en maatschappelijk kwetsbare groepen’ bij de Fontys Hogeschool Sociale Studies in Eindhoven de publicatie Zwanger van empowerment. Een uitdagend kader voor sociale inclusie en moderne zorg. Dit empowermentkader werd warm ont- haald, niet alleen binnen de Hogeschool waar het als centraal concept wordt gesteld voor de gehele opleiding sociale studies, maar ook daarbuiten, zowel door profes- sionals, door (organisaties van) kwetsbare burgers, als bij het beleid. De opdracht en uitdaging liggen nu in het concretiseren en toepassen van het empowermentpa- radigma. Empowerment is een verbindend kader dat zich leent voor verschillende kwetsbare groepen, verschillende contexten, werkvelden en sectoren. Empowerment overstijgt als gelaagd concept het individuele niveau en vraagt ook om doorvertalingen op onder meer het groeps- en buurtniveau, het organisatieniveau, op diverse beleidsniveaus en op het niveau van de brede samenleving. Praktijkgericht onderzoek uitvoeren vanuit het empowermentkader heeft tevens haar implicaties.

In the Netherlands, the city of Utrecht is leading in providing adequate accommodation through mixed housing projects for ‘regular’ tenants and people previously living in homeless services or protected housing facilities. ‘New’ homeless persons also obtain the possibility for making a new start, instead of having to depend on shelters first. The concept of mixed housing, not to be confused with mixed income housing, relates in our definition to small and medium-sized (up to 500 residents) housing projects that are home to different groups of people who intentionally live next to each other, connect and engage in joint activities.In this paper, we examine three projects, with mainly self-contained dwellings: ‘Groene Sticht’ (since 2003), a small neighbourhood with 69 regular tenants and home-owners, and 35 ex-homeless persons; ‘Parana’ (2014), a purpose build complex with 24 regular and 44 (ex-)homeless individuals/families; ‘Majella Wonen’ (2016), older basic, post-war dwellings with 39 regular tenants and 35 homeless persons/families. These price-winning projects, co-created by a homeless service, social integration services and a social housing provider are built on an innovative concept of social management, with a high level of self-organisation. All residents are fully eligible members of the residents-committees and take responsibility for activities such as festivities, gardening, and the selection of new tenants. If necessary, ex-homeless inhabitants receive individualised support.We discuss structures and mechanisms that help homeless people feel at home amidst their (new) neighbours and foster their social integration. In addition, we identify several tensions that hamper integration and analyse the ways in which both residents and professionals try to tackle these obstacles.We collected data (2016 -2018) through the participatory meetings of a Community of Practice on Mixed housing, the study of documents, in-depth interviews with inhabitants of the housing complexes, focus group-sessions with professionals and interviews with local stakeholders.Based on this research we will apply for follow up funding. Through national funds and/or European funds.

The rock shelter of the Roc-aux-Sorciers at Angles-sur-lAnglin (Vienne, France) is one of the archaeological reference sites for the Upper Paleolithic. The sculpted, painted and engraved frieze was gradually brought to light in its archaeological context by Susanne Cassou de Saint-Mathurin and Dorothy Garrod from 1949 onwards (Saint-Mathurin, Garrod, 1950). A wealth of archaeological material was discovered alongside the parietal art, comprising numerous works of portable art, tools made of animal bone, jewellery, etc. It was very rapidly observed that the portable art and the parietal art shared the same graphic and thematic conventions. For example, images of female bodies are rendered in high relief, in a monumental way, but also in the form of small statuettes. Our research has demonstrated the undeniable intra-site links between the portable art and the parietal art (Pinon, 2012). Here we propose to broaden this analysis within a well-identified culture of the Middle Magdalenian known as the Magdalenian of Lussac-Angles spearpoints. At the time of the discovery of the Magdalenian site of La Marche in 1937 (Vienne) (Lwoff, Pricard, 1940), some similarities had been identified between this site and that of Le Roc-aux-Sorciers, where the discoveries dated back to 1927 (Rousseau, 1933). These similarities are also perceptible in shared techniques (Chehmana, Beyries, 2010), as well as in the production of objects in hard organic materials such as the Lussac-Angles spearpoints (Pinon, 1988), the jewellery in fossil mammoth ivory (Dujardin, Pinon, 2000), the engraved horse incisors (Mazire, 2009) and the figurative art (Bourdier et al., 2016 Fuentes, 2016). We propose to further explore the links between these two sites through the analysis of the dynamic processes of reworking images. In particular we examine the engraved plaquettes of La Marche and the parietal art of Le Roc-aux-Sorciers to bring these links into perspective.
