Abstract:
This paper puts a conceptual framework to outline research for corporate social responsibility (CSR) audit based on the analysis of current CRS literature and audit models as implementation of CSR. It is intended to make clear the phenomena about the relationship between audit, implementation of business ethics principles and corporate governance. However, most studies do not take into account modify CSR audit. This paper reports part of a research we carried out on the theoretical interpretation of the corporate social responsibility audit. This paper examines the corporate social responsibility audit as a composition of four categories - management system audits, on-site audits, verbal probability expressions (VPE) audits and technology audits. The paper concludes suggests to systematize multiple audits so that they can be conduct in three types of audits - environmental management audits covering in-house companies, environmental technology audits of products, and environmental audits of sites, including non-manufacturing sites and non-consolidated subsidiaries.

Abstract:
The notion of Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is still stirring debate over how it should be interpreted, what models of CSR dominate in business practice, and consequences of enterprises’ engagement into socially responsible actions. While business practice demonstrates that companies voluntarily include social and environmental issues into their activities and into their relations with stakeholders, it is hard to determine what intentions motivate them to do so. This paper analyses selected aspects of discussions focused on the notion of CSR and identifies controversies over the standardisation of ethical and social business activities.

Abstract:
Corporate social responsibility, as a business philosophy and managerial concept, is increasingly represented in contemporary business operations and marketing, as well as in the scientific literature in this field. The importance that consumers attach to different aspects of social responsibility when evaluating companies and products and making purchasing decisions, is determined by economic, sociological, institutional and technological development of the environment, differing in developed countries and emerging markets. The aim of this paper is to investigate how consumers perceive the responsibility of companies operating in the market of the Republic of Serbia and which aspects of social responsibility they perceive as crucial or more important. In order to examine how consumers perceive the social and environmental dimensions of corporate social responsibility, an empirical study was conducted, using the survey method. For the purposes of the research, the questionnaire was adapted from the similar studies in foreign countries, which enables a comparison of the importance of different dimensions of corporate responsibility with consumers from different markets. In addition to standard demographic questions, the questionnaire also contains questions related to different perception, beliefs and attitudes, as well as expectations of respondents' in relation to the social and environmental dimension of company responsibility. The results of the research showed that there is a significant correlation between the perception of environmental and social aspects of corporate social responsibility and consumer preferences, expressed in company's evaluation and intention to buy its products or services. One of the conclusions of the survey is that demographic characteristics of respondents determine this connection.

Abstract:
A relatively new concept in the business world, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has resonated widely in the global economy. As well as integrating into the cultures of many organizations, CSR has become an important business strategy component of corporations worldwide. Many large companies in Jordan realize the importance of adopting social responsibility, especially companies that help build society as well as develop and increase productivity by providing distinct programs for small projects, as these contribute to solving problems of unemployment and poverty. This study explores the extent to which Zain Telecom in Jordan covers the three aspects of social responsibility in the same depth and level. The research methodology is qualitative analytical and is based on secondary data such as previous studies and the analysis of Zain’s annual report of social responsibility for 2018. The study concluded that the abovementioned company is significantly concerned with the social and employee aspects of CSR, but pays little attention to environmental aspects. The study made a number of recommendations, including focusing on all dimensions of social responsibility equally.

Abstract:
The article summarizes the reasons for the weak social responsibility of business entities and the consequences of further non-interference of the state in solving this problem. The sequence of stages of realization of the state policy of activization of social responsibility of business in Ukraine is substantiated. The strategic principles of the policy of strengthening the social responsibility of entrepreneurship in Ukraine are determined. The strategic priorities of the state policy of sustainable development in the context of strengthening the social responsibility of entrepreneurship are specified. Measures are proposed that will help eliminate obstacles to the intensification of social responsibility of entrepreneurship in Ukraine and its regions and ensure sustainable development of the country. It is determined that the improvement of the system of regulation of social responsibility of entrepreneurship in Ukraine requires ensuring the planning and programmability of state policy in this area, as well as the adoption of regulations to determine the main provisions, strategic guidelines, norms and principles of state policy of sustainable development. The interdependence of social responsibility of entrepreneurship with the development of the national economy, including important parameters of social security, determines the need to justify the strategy and to develop and implement measures of the relevant target program of sustainable development. It is substantiated that in order to achieve the strategic goal of the state policy of sustainable development, it is necessary to implement priority operational goals in such areas as: improving the system of protection of workers' rights and ensuring compliance with labor legislation; strengthening the social responsibility of entrepreneurship to society; improving relations between business and the consumer sector; increasing the role of business representatives in environmental protection; ensuring a high level of social responsibility of business entities to competitors and contractors. ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In the recent past, there has been increasing awareness of, and concern for, the impact that many companies are having on the natural and social environment. This has seen the emergence of a triple bottom line approach to business, with environmental and social metrics being used in addition to financial metrics when evaluating company performance. Despite the growing level of investment in corporate sustainability, it is not clear whether these investments are viewed positively by the market, and to what extent it creates shareholder value. To shed light on the relationship between environmental performance and financial performance, this research assignment used the event study methodology to investigate whether there is statistically significant stock market reactions to announcements relating to the environmental performance of companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. A total of 260 news announcements related to environmental performance were collected from a variety of news sources. The 260 news announcements represented 67 different companies across 11 different industry sectors. News announcements were collected from several prominent business news sources including the Business Day, Financial Mail and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange News Service. Abnormal share returns were estimated for a three day event window around the announcement date by using the market model approach. Results were aggregated based on four different categories of environmental performance, including corporate environmental initiatives, environmental awards and certificates, negative environmental publicity and, environmental reporting, permits and licences. Consistent with related research in developed countries, this study found that the market rewards certain categories of positive environmental performance but penalises certain categories of negative environmental performance more severely. The results show that there is a significant positive market reaction to announcements of corporate environmental initiatives on the trading day following the announcement. This result indicates a positive relationship between corporate environmental initiatives and financial performance, as measured by market value. In terms of negative environmental performance, it was found that the market responds negatively to the broad category of negative environmental publicity. In particular, negative announcements from civil society and environmental groups seem to result in more significant market reactions than negative announcements from local or national government. In contrast to some studies done in developed countries, no statistically significant relationship was found between announcements of environmental awards and certificates and the market value of companies. Neither was there a statistically significant relationship between environmental reporting, permits and licences and the market value of companies. These results therefore indicate that the market is selective in its response to announcements of environmental performance.

Barter, Nicholas J. "Pursuing sustainability : an exploratory study of organisations that have environmental missions." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/1707.

Full text
Abstract:
Numerous management scholars argue that management theory is anthropocentric and considers humans as being separate from the environment. Further anthropocentrism does not enable theory and organisations to contribute to sustainable development. To counter this it is argued theory and organisations should embrace an environmental paradigm that does not separate humans and the environment. This exploratory research attempts to identify whether any organisations operate with an environmental paradigm. The research questions focus on paradigms and some of the tensions surrounding the human-environment debate, such as; sufficiency versus profit maximisation and quoted status, money as a means or an end and notions of boundaries between the organisation and the environment. The questions are explored with individuals from 23 environmentally focused, primarily for profit, organisations. The results indicate that the organisations operate with an environmental paradigm, do not perceive of boundaries between the organisation and the environment, do not pursue profit maximisation, can demonstrate sufficiency, view money as a means rather than an end and do not have a favourable view of quoted status. Furthermore, the interviewees do not separate their world into two realms, one social and one natural. Narratives that arise include the organisations operating to a mode of mission and money and that an aphorism of “altruistically selfish and selfishly altruistic” (Maturana & Varela, 1998:197) can be applied. In short, the results indicate some challenges to conventional management theory, in particular strategy and competitive advantage, and that the organisations interviewed could help to, some extent, enable sustainable development. To close, the hope of this study it that its narratives and the conceptual tool it has prompted, provide succour to students and managers who want to develop a ‘future normal’ of theories and organisations that better enable sustainability.

Sukhdeo, Beverley Amanda Faith. "A conscious leadership model to achieve sustainable business practices." Thesis, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10948/5885.

Full text
Abstract:
Business sustainability is a fundamental concern amongst business leaders and it is imperative that business defines an environmentally and socially sustainable path to financial prosperity. This focus on sustainable business practices has been caused by the perceived contribution of businesses to undesirable conditions such as environmental and social degradation including global warming and the global financial crises. This study suggests that a leadership style that differs from leadership that is currently causing business unsustainability is needed in order to achieve the goal of sustainable business practices. This study therefore proposes a new kind of leadership, called conscious leadership. The main contribution of the study is to increase the achievement of sustainable business practices by investigating the importance of conscious leadership in achieving this objective. Convenience sampling was used to select senior managers and directors from mainly JSE listed companies. This resulted in a total of 371 usable questionnaires (317 from listed companies and 54 from unlisted companies) being received. A quantitative approach was adopted to investigate whether conscious leadership would be related to increased sustainability competencies and more effective sustainability-related corporate governance and whether these in turn would increase sustainability behaviours which would generate sustainable business practices as measured by financial, social and environmental performance. Regression analyses were conducted to investigate the hypothesised relationships among these variables. Pearson correlations and descriptive statistics were also calculated. The empirical results showed that respondents in this study regarded conscious leadership, not as a separate construct, but as a way they governed their businesses. The empirical results showed that corporate governance and systems thinking competency had a strong interactive relationship and should therefore be cultivated within business firms. Corporate governance (including conscious leadership) and systems-thinking competency were positive influencers of employee relations, equal opportunities and workforce diversity. The empirical results however showed that corporate governance (including conscious leadership) had a negative influence on profitability. The present study cannot argue for the discouragement of corporate governance (including conscious leadership), as measured in this study, because reduced corporate governance would decrease healthy employee relations and the latter would decrease the achievement of equal opportunities and workforce diversity in these firms. A decrease in healthy employee relations would decrease profitability. The most important finding of this study is that senior managers and directors of big business firms, mostly JSE-listed companies, regarded conscious leadership as an important part of corporate governance. Corporate governance that includes conscious leadership must be developed to higher levels in business firms, so that the negative and not-significant relationships to profitability as viewed by lower and high conscious leaders respectively can be changed to positive relationships.

Abstract:
Social controls influence the environmental performance of firms and require them to be more accountable for their environmental impacts. These controls include governmental interventions such as mandatory disclosure requirements, regulation and subsidisation, as well as less formal controls such as stakeholder opinion. This thesis examines the relative influence of environmental social controls on the acceptability of capital investment and provides insight into the perceptions of Australian managers concerning capital investment decision-making. An experiment is used to measure the relative influence of the four social control measures. This is supported by a survey to gauge firm size and industry influences and also a range of attributes of the controls on the capital investment decision. Experiment results suggest that the influence of stakeholder opinion on capital investment is very high and mandatory disclosure very low. The survey measured the influence of a range of indicators of each control and also firm size and industry effects. Firm size effects were weak while industry effects were much clearer and more consistent. A comparison of the influence of social control indicators and a range of financial and strategic indicators on the capital investment decision showed that the mainstream indicators had more influence.

Abstract:
AbstractThe Portuguese legal system does not provide for the general regime of social enterprises. The legal notion offered by the Public Procurement Code has a sectoral scope, and the Basic Law on Social Economy is ambiguous as to the relationship between social enterprises and social economy. Benefit corporations have no legislative provision in the Portuguese legal order. However, “company” types are endowed with some flexibility. This allows shareholders to adapt the statutes to their business projects within the law’s limits through statutory clauses. Statutory clauses can incorporate the interests of the general community, workers and other stakeholders, translated, for example, into dividend distribution policies or environmentally sustainable practices, gender equality policies or the promotion of social responsibility measures.Although not expressly stated in Portuguese law, the current state of legal doctrine allows us to argue that social enterprises in Portugal are included in the perimeter of social economy entities. The areas of impact measured by B certification seem to be inspired by the experience concerning cooperatives, which combine social and economic aspects. Cooperatives, however, go beyond B-Corp entities. B certification, granted by private entity B-Lab, is not a new legal regime but only a label that distinguishes companies. Some Portuguese companies are B-Lab certified companies.

Abstract:
AbstractThe previous chapters described the importance of balancing the various types of value, but how to calculate those types of value? The core model in corporate finance is the discounted cash flow (DCF) model, used to determine the financial value (FV) of a project or a company. This chapter explains how social (S) and environmental (E) issues can be expressed in value terms to arrive at social value (SV) and environmental value (EV). Recent advances in impact measurement enable companies to measure social and environmental quantities (such as life years saved by medical treatment or carbon emissions from using fossil fuels) and then to multiply these quantities by their respective shadow price, derived from welfare theory. The reason for monetary valuation of (non-market priced) social and environmental impact is to make them visible, and part of the decision-making process, by integrating SV and EV in the accounting system and business language. A common unit ($, € or any other currency) for financial, social, and environmental aspects of business impacts enables managers (and stakeholders) to compare different value components and to analyse the interactions between these value components. The mental challenge for many managers is to start thinking, analysing, and acting in this way, in spite of data gaps and other hurdles.

Abstract:
The study is devoted to topical issues of business socialization. Social, economic and environmental aspects of business activity are analyzed. In order to generalize information, a number of key factors that have a direct impact on business socialization were determined. It is important to note that the war that started in February 2022 has an important influence on the evolution of social responsibility in the business environment in Ukraine. However, the main role in increasing the costs of social responsibility was played by the civic activity of both owners and employees of enterprises. Support from the state, as well as active support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and its own personnel, has become a fundamental task for Ukrainian companies in this difficult period

Abstract:
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not a refreshing concept for the management of an organization in recent years. This concept refers to a firm, which has more responsibilities to adapt the needs of objectives apart from its stakeholders and owners in commercial, legal, ethical, and environmental ways (Beal and Goyen, 2005), and the responsibilities are achieved by meeting or exceeding the commercial, ethical, legal and philanthropic expectation from these objectives. The concept of corporate social responsibility was firstly introduced by the publication of Bowen's Social Responsibility of Businessmen in 1953, while almost all known companies have integrated this spirit into their business model. Nowadays, the promotion of corporate social responsibility has even become not only the wider responsibilities in which an organization contributes to society but also an approach to promote an organization's corporate image (Chang, 2009). The purpose of this paper is to briefly discuss the concept of corporate social responsibility regarding economic, ethical, legal, and philanthropic aspects, and the objectives served by corporate social responsibility such as environments, the society, and the public. This paper then explains how the realization of CSR from one organization can bring effects to its stakeholders and how the organization can obtain benefits from the implementation. Finally, this paper includes two cases from well-known companies in Taiwan, namely TSMC (Taiwan semiconductor manufacturing company) and FPG (Formosa Plastics Group) about how these companies successfully realize corporate social responsibility, and the impacts that influence the stakeholders, and the benefits they obtain for their corporate images.

Abstract:
Corporate sustainability and successful long-term business are contributed by the orientation towards achieving economic and financial performance, taking into account social and environmental aspects. On the part of society, there has been a tightening of environmental requirements. The management of a modern company, through achieved economic and environmental performances, indicates that these two interests do not have to be in conflict. Rational use and adequate management of resources reduces operating costs and future liabilities, increases the company's image through increased social responsibility towards the environment. In the process of business decision-making, the importance of environmental accounting and environmental auditing is pointed out, which is based on the measurement of environmental costs and benefits. Environmental accounting represents a very important source of information in the process of managing environmental protection. Modern non-financial reporting has the informational power to incorporate information provided by environmental accounting, and provides added value with financial information, in order to make adequate business decisions in the function of reconciling two goals - making a profit and protecting the environment. The aim of the paper is reflected in the theoretical presentation of non-financial reporting with an emphasis on social and environmental responsibility, and on the review of non-financial information contained in the annual reports of certain companies in the Republic of Serbia whose shares are listed on the Belgrade Stock Exchange. The practical part of the paper refers to the presentation of the methodology and the quality of the non-financial information provided in the reviewed annual reports.

Abstract:
Pension funds are major asset owners in financial markets and global investors with long-term investment horizons and the need for stable and predictable cash flows. On the other hand, these institutional investors are crucial for maintaining social security, so their performance and investment structure should take into account their responsibility for the environment and society in general. Therefore, they have an extraordinary potential and special responsibility to take measures against sustainability risks and to green the economy, but also to improve social and managerial aspects when adjusting their investment portfolios. Pension funds among institutional investors are expected to make an important contribution to the transition to a sustainable economy. The objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of integrating environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects into the structure of pension funds' investment portfolios, taking into account related regulatory measures and anticipating transition risks. Investment strategies refer to exclusion procedures for ineligible investments, but also to sophisticated screening techniques and verification of compliance with specific sustainability criteria to contribute to the transition to a greener and more sustainable economy.

Abstract:
This research aims to present the challenges that companies faced in pandemic times and the ways corporate governance influence their corporate behaviour and made the difference between companies that succeeded to adapt to their strategies to the new business environment and the one that failed. This study contributes to present literature on market reactions to COVID-19 outbreak in terms of corporate governance responses, emphasizes key guidelines of good sustainability practices while raising an alarm signer over corporate abuse hidden under corporate social responsibility initiatives. Corporate abuse refers to a certain behaviour of a corporation that is either unethical or the involvement in a scandal, fraud cases or negligence towards employees or the local community. Abstract:
Since the adoption of the Non-Financial Reporting Directive, companies are required to report information on environmental, social, and employee matters, respect for human rights, anti-corruption, and bribery matters. These aspects represent some of the elements of socially responsible corporate behavior. Following the adoption of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and its gradual transposition into the European Union Member States' national legislation, the ESG reporting requirements are becoming stricter. The aim is to ensure transparency and comparability of reported sustainability information, to prevent greenwashing, and to ensure that companies behave in a socially responsible manner to the environment, society, and governance, and report this information in the Sustainability Report. The paper aims to analyze how the young generation from four different countries perceives the socially responsible behavior of companies and what importance they give to different aspects of corporate social responsibility. To meet the purpose of the paper, a standard methodology of legislation and literature review was performed. Afterward, a questionnaire survey was conducted in which we investigated the attitudes of the young generation to the socially responsible behavior of companies. The results of the research showed that the young generation perceives social responsibility in companies’ behavior and takes it as a competitive advantage in the market. The results, among others, showed which aspects of responsible business are the most important for the young generation, if young people can name some socially responsible companies, and if they prefer to buy products or services from companies that behave responsibly to society and the environment, etc. The paper analyses the attitudes of the young generation which can be a limited factor in the research. More detailed analysis within all the age groups could bring different results. The number of respondents is another limitation.

Abstract:
This paper explores the foundation, concept, benefits and mechanisms for implementing sustainable procurement. To achieve the purpose of this research, the author reviewed the key findings of relevant studies and observed them in the context of the current turbulent global geopolitical, economic, social and environmental circumstances. The author claims that sustainable procurement influences the extent and benefits of sustainability implementation in the whole supply chain. Successfully encouraging suppliers to implement sustainability aspects into their production or service activities/processes accelerates a company’s enforcement of sustainability into the whole supply chain, which triggers positive impacts on its value chain creation. Considering the higher stringency of international regulation on sustainability compliance, the positive impacts of sustainability implementation in procurement and supply chain contribute to a company’s higher global competitiveness. Additionally, sustainable procurement shows a company’s adherence to social responsibility for current global challenges. This research implies that sustainable procurement is a requisite international business strategy

Abstract:
Sustainable leadership is becoming increasingly important in the contemporary business context, as there is a growing emphasis on environmental protection, social responsibility, and the long-term success of organizations. This concept originates from the idea that organizations do not exist in isolation but are closely interconnected with the natural environment and the society in which they operate. Sustainable leadership recognizes the significant role of organizations in preserving the environment and the overall social well-being and promotes their actions in accordance with the principles of environmental conservation and the well-being of all stakeholders. This research analyzes the concepts of sustainable leadership at the individual, organizational, and integrated levels. The primary goal of the paper was to gain a deeper understanding of the key elements and characteristics that make sustainable leadership successful and effective. Through a review of relevant literature, various aspects of sustainable leadership at each of these levels were considered to create a comprehensive picture of this important topic.

Abstract:
Talk about the Fourth Industrial Revolution is mainly related to the processes of digitalization and the penetration of artificial intelligence into our lives. Business, of course, is also undergoing significant changes under the influence of such cardinal processes. In this context, the social aspects of change are very important, so the management of organizational change should be focused on such extremely important elements as: ethics, social responsibility, values and principles of companies of the future. Without such an important understanding of the transformational processes in society, social inequality can form, the concentration of power and monopolization by only a few large companies, aggravation of problems associated with the failure to implement the goals of the Sustainable Development Concept. The ideologists of the concept of the 4th industrial revolution pay great attention to "soft factors, which, along with technical aspects, lead to a completely different model of the functioning of society. The object of study in the work are the SMEs of the Republic of Moldova, which are the most vulnerable in these challenges. Having insufficient resources and staff qualifications, it is more difficult for them to adapt to such changes, therefore, the purpose of the study is to develop guidelines for the development of enterprises of this type in a complex, uncertain environment of existence.

Abstract:
This report explores the potential of Urban Agriculture (UA) to enhance food security, improve resource efficiency, and promote smart, resilient, and circular cities. The discussion is framed within the scope of the Horizon 2020 project ‘Sino-European Innovative Green and Smart Cities’ (SiEUGreen) which explored different pathways to turn waste into resources for growing food in cities through the combination of different technologies. These technologies were tested in five showcases: Campus Ås, in Ås, Norway; World Gardens and Brabrand Fællesgartneriet community gardens in Aarhus, Denmark; Turunçlu greenhouse in Atakya, Turkey; Sanyuan Farm, in Beijing, and Futiancangjun residential area in Changsha, China. The insights and knowledge gained with these showcases were the basis to discuss the barriers and drivers of UA in the transition to more sustainable and resilient circular cities, across five aspects (1) environmental, (2) technological, (3) economic, (4) social and cultural and (5) regulatory and institutional issues. The results suggest that city food provision and UA systems can be designed considering circular economy regenerative cycles, but it is important to promote local research that can highlight policy solutions to address context-related barriers and limitations. Among the main lessons learned across the different aspects, we highlight: - The need for more evidence-based research, clear monitoring tools and evaluation/assessment of the different UA typologies and their impact on the environment, society and economy; - The implementation of innovative technological developments that support and promote UA for reduce; reuse, recycle/recover resources require more experimentation, large-scale tests and validation both concerning their efficiency, positive environmental impacts, as well as economic viability; - The need for high investments, difficulties accessing financial support, underdeveloped business case for circular resource models, and limited recognition of the positive and indirect economic, environmental benefits of UA are among the main barriers that limit the uptake of agriculture in cities; - Despite the significant role UA can play in advancing a circular economy (e.g., by supporting sustainable local food systems, promoting community resilience and reducing waste), behaviour and cultural barriers were found to have a deep impact when fostering a closed-loop approach to UA, especially concerning overcoming prejudice against waste as a resource, - Local governance and public policy play a central role in framing and supporting UA (e.g., incentives, funding, regulatory frameworks) as a pathway that enables close loops in cities.

Principles of Community Monitoring: A Path for Companies and Investors to Strengthen Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence and Support Community Tenure in Land-based Sectors. Rights and Resources Initiative, May 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.53892/atou9714.

Full text
Abstract:
Companies and investors in land-based sectors have a responsibility to respect human rights and the legitimate tenure rights of Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and Afro-descendant Peoples (IPs, LCs, and ADPs). These responsibilities are evident in international frameworks, national laws, emerging regulation, industry best practices, and the social and sustainability policies and commitments made by progressive companies and investors. As a result, comprehensive human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) processes are required for companies and investors to proactively assess the potential impacts of their enterprises on collective rightsholders and establish measures to prevent, mitigate, and remedy potential harms tied to their business operations, supply chains, and investments. Secure tenure and the effective engagement of local rightsholders are critical to the success of HREDD, and community monitoring provides a pathway to building reciprocal and rights-based relationships that bridge the divide between communities and companies/investors. Community monitoring (CM) refers to a process in which IPs, LCs, and ADPs assess and collect data on business operations that may affect their lands, territories, resources, rights, cultures, and livelihoods. Communities utilize this data to inform and shape business practices, prevent/address negative human rights and environmental impacts, and hold companies and investors accountable to crucial laws and standards. Where partnerships are developed, CM can help companies and investors improve their compliance with these laws and standards, including their internal policies and commitments, as well as reduce operational and reputational risks. Most importantly, CM supports more direct, balanced, and rights-based partnerships between communities and companies/investors, which are required to continually respect the legitimate tenure rights and self-determination of IPs, LCs, and ADPs—rights that are intrinsically tied to achieving global climate and biodiversity goals and associated corporate sustainability agendas. In response to this burgeoning opportunity, this document shares emerging ideas, principles, and good practices to socialize the concept of CM among companies and investors in land-based sectors, as well as outline steps they can take to meaningfully engage with IPs, LCs, and ADPs to monitor and respond to the potential environmental and human rights impacts of their operations, supply chains, or investments.
